Abstract
Hence, N,S-CDs with photoluminescent property were simply synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method. Combined with the commercial reagent Ce4+, a ratiometric fluorescence assay for ascorbic acid (AA) detection was established. Ce4+, possessing oxidization, could directly oxidize o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to form the yellow fluorescent product oxOPD. Under the excitation wavelength of 370 nm, oxOPD had a maximum fluorescence emission at 562 nm. Meanwhile, due to the occurrence of the inner filter effect (IFE), oxOPD quenched the fluorescence of N,S-CDs. However, ascorbic acid (AA) inhibited the oxidation of Ce4+, causing the fluorescence of oxOPD at 562 nm to decrease, accompanied by an increase in the fluorescence belonging to N,S-CDs at 450 nm. Thus, a Ce4+-assisted ratiometric fluorescence method was established for AA detection. The two fluorescence output signals in this method had opposite changing trends, which could reduce system errors and improve the accuracy. This method was successfully applied to the determination of AA in drugs and fruits.

Abstract
Herein, a novel type of phosphorus and iron-doped carbon dot (P,Fe-CD) with outstanding peroxidase activity and excellent fluorescence performance was hydrothermally synthesized to colorimetrically and fluorimetrically detect tannic acid (TA). In the presence of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and H2O2, the P,Fe-CDs could oxidize colorless TMB to a blue oxidation product (oxTMB) resulting in an increased value of absorbance. Simultaneously, the fluorescence intensity of P,Fe-CDs at 430 nm could be quenched owing to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between P,Fe-CDs and the generated oxTMB. Meanwhile, after adding the TA to the system containing TMB, H2O2 and P,Fe-CDs, the value of absorbance could be decreased and the fluorescence could be recovered because of the reduction reaction between TA and oxTMB. Therefore, fluorescence intensity and value of absorbance could be applied to quantitatively detect TA with good linearities between the concentration of TA and the fluorescence intensity/value of absorbance (0.997 and 0.997 for the colorimetric signal and fluorimetric one, respectively) and low limits of detection (0.093 μmol L-1 and 0.053 μmol L-1 for the colorimetry and the fluorimetry, respectively), which was successfully applied to the detection of TA in red wines. Moreover, we applied a smartphone-assisted method to the point-of-care detection of TA with accurate results, providing a new technique for TA detection and food quality monitoring.

Abstract
In this study, sulfur dots (GA-SDs) synthesized by using Gum Arabic (GA) as a green stabilizer were used as corrosion inhibitors and their inhibition effect for Q235 steel in 3.5- wt% NaCl solution was investigated by weight loss, electrochemical tests, and surface and interface analysis. The results revealed that the inhibition efficiency reached the maximum value of 96.5% at 250 mg/L and the water-soluble GA-SDs were able to adhere to the iron surface through the diffusion and agglomeration effect. The unique antibacterial activities demonstrated a 99.35% inhibition efficiency at 250 mg/L. Moreover, the optical properties endowed the inhibitors with the fluorescence tracing function, which is an effective approach to detecting the residual quantity of water treatment agents. This work may facilitate the development of the next generation of multifunction water treatment agents in industrial circulating water systems.

Abstract
The high content of nitrogen and sulfur-doped carbon dots (N, S-CDs) was designed to prevent the corrosion of X65 steel in an acidic medium. The corrosion-inhibiting abilities of related nanomaterials for X65 steel were acquired by electrochemical experiments, and the corroded products were investigated by FT-IR, XPS, and Raman analysis. The conclusions confirm that the N, S-CDs are a high-efficiency inhibitor. When the concentration is 200 mg/L, the inhibitive efficiency of X65 steel can reach up to 99.1% and it interacts with X65 steel through chemical and physical adsorption. Additionally, results from the spectroscopic studies show that the S-group is the main contributor to the chemical adsorption process.

Abstract
For protecting the exquisite structural patterns of such coins, developments of simple preparation methods were explored to achieve good hydrophobic capability and the wear-damage resistance of CuZnPb surfaces. A self-cleaning nanoliquid (SN) was combined with microstructured Ag-dispersed CuZnPb (MAC) to realize good hydrophobicity functions of the SNMAC. This was because the cooperative functions of silver and the SN enhanced the water reunion ability and increased solid-liquid-gas contact areas, leading to high contact angles of SNMAC. Their cooperations produced discrepant forces in their respective areas of the water drops and increased heterogeneous flowing, resulting in a high-angle hysteresis of SNMAC. Subsequently, the wear-damage resistance of the hydrophobic interface was measured in a ball-on-flat tribopair system, and the results showed that sliding injuries made a height distribution of the hydrophobic surface trend toward an equalization, allowing the cooperation of nano-silver, SN, and CuZnPb to form a new-style interface for achieving excellent hydrophobicity, thus producing the highest contact angles of the SNMAC among the as-prepared samples.

Abstract
As diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer caused by food problems are more and more frequent, food safety has received great attention. Among them, the safety problem caused by food dyes is more prominent. Thus, it is of great value to develop sensitive detection methods for food dyes. In present study, sulphuric acid-mediated N,S-codoped red emissive carbon dots (namely as R-CDs) had been manufactured by using N-phenyl-o-phenylenediamine as precursor, sulfuric acid as additive for the first time. The structural and fluorescence properties of R-CDs had been systematically studied. The results demonstrated that R-CDs showed uniform spherical morphology and had a graphite-like structure, for which the average diameters size was 5.05 nm. Due to the various functional groups such as hydroxyl, pyridinic N, pyrrolic N and -C-SO4, R-CDs emitted bright red fluorescence. Importantly, because of the interactions between the functional groups of R-CDs with the selected food dyes, three dyes including amaranth, brilliant blue FCF and methylene blue can sensitively quench the fluorescence of R-CDs through IFE and static quenching effects. The linearity ranges of them were separately detected as 0.20 μM -20 μM, 10 nM-1 μM and 60 nM-8 μM. The limits of detection (LODs) of them were 70 nM, 4 nM and 20 nM, respectively. Further, R-CDs was successfully applied to the sensitive detection of three dyes from various food samples. To maximize the fluorescence properties of R-CDs, a R-CDs/PVA composite gel was fabricated to make R-CDs fluoresce in solid state condition. The potential of R-CDs/PVA composite gel for preliminary visualization analysis of three dyes was studied. Finally, ascribed to the low toxicity and good biocompatibility, the potential of R-CDs as probe for cell imaging was explored preliminarily.

Abstract
The objective of this research was to explore the impact of corrosion inhibition of some synthetic acrylamide derivatives 2-cyano-N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)acrylamide (ACR-2) and 2-cyano-N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-phenylacrylamide (ACR-3) on copper in 1.0 M nitric acid solution using chemical and electrochemical methods, including mass loss as a chemical method and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PP) as electrochemical methods. By Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR), and mass spectroscopy (MS) methods, the two compounds were verified and characterized. There is evidence that both compounds were effective corrosion inhibitors for copper in 1.0 M nitric acid (HNO3) solutions, as indicated by the PP curves, which show that these compounds may be considered mixed-type inhibitors. With the two compounds added, the value of the double-layer capacitance was reduced. In the case of 20 × 10-5 M, they reached maximum efficiencies of 84.5% and 86.1%, respectively. Having studied its behavior during adsorption on copper, it was concluded that it follows chemical adsorption and Langmuir isotherm. The theoretical computations and the experimental findings were compared using density functional theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo simulations (MC).

Abstract
A promising green hydrothermal process was used to produce biobased nanomaterials carbon dots (CDs) by using microalgae Chlorella pyrenoidosa (CP) and its main model compounds (i.e., glucose, glycine, and octadecanoic acid). The possible reaction pathway including hydrolysis, Amadori rearrangement, cyclization/aromatization, and polymerization was first proposed for the hydrothermal process to produce microalgae-based CDs. Interactions among carbohydrates and proteins in microalgae were vital intermediate reactions in the generation of CDs. The mass yield of CDs reached 7.2% when the CP was hydrothermally treated with 20:1 of liquid-to-solid ratio at 230 °C for 6 h. It was confirmed that nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorous, and potassium were doped onto CP-based CDs (CD-CP) successfully without additional reagents or treatments. The CD-CP yield was 4.0-24.3 times higher than that of model compound-based CDs. Regarding morphology, CD-CP was constituted by many spherical nanoparticles smaller than 20 nm. These CDs emitted blue fluorescence under ultraviolet light, and the fluorescence quantum yield of CD-CP was 4.7-9.4 times higher than that of CP model compound-based CDs. Last, CD-CP displayed broad application prospects as a sensor for Fe3+ detection in wastewater with high sensitivity.

Comparative study on corrosion inhibition of N doped and N,S codoped carbon dots for carbon steel in strong acidic solution. J Colloid Interface Sci 2022; 628:384-397. Abstract
Carbon steel is the most widely used engineering material, and its corrosion is one of the main areas of concern in many industries. The most practical approach to control this problem is to use corrosion inhibitors. Currently, because of their good water solubility, excellent chemical stability, low cost and nontoxic features, carbon dots (CDs), especially heteroatom-doped CDs, have been developed as green corrosion inhibitors, but the corrosion inhibition efficiency and underlying mechanisms of single- or dual-element doping have not yet been accurately compared and analyzed. Inspired by this, eco-friendly nitrogen-doped and nitrogen, sulfur codoped CDs (N-CDs and N,S-CDs) are prepared via a one-step hydrothermal process, and a comparative study on their inhibition performance for carbon steel corrosion in strong acidic solution is performed. The results show that both N-CDs and N,S-CDs can restrain the corrosion of carbon steel, and their inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentration and immersion time, reaching approximately 87.9% (N-CDs) and 96.4% (N,S-CDs) at 200 ppm after 1 h of immersion. Molecular dynamics simulation indicates that the strong interaction ability between N,S-CDs and the Fe substrate leads to higher corrosion inhibition performance than the single N doping case, benefiting from the multi-anchor adsorption of N,S-CDs on carbon steel in a strong acidic solution. Therefore, the facile preparation, eco-friendliness and high corrosion inhibition performance of N,S-CDs will provide a new approach for designing highly efficient carbon dots and broadening the application of carbon dots in the corrosion field.

Abstract
Surface corrosion is considered to be a main reason for the surface pattern damages of copper coin sourced from the Qing Dynasty. In this study, micromorphology and the structural feature of the copper coins were analyzed to determine their corrosion mechanisms. The results revealed that the etching rates successively reduced with decreasing corrosion thickness, possibly because of unique macrofeatures of the surface pattern. Variable phases, bonding morphologies, and three-/two-dimensional structures of Ql-TB (Qianlong-Tongbao) coins were visibly different at the microscale, which induced disproportional stresses and microscopic cracks, facilitating an unhindered entry of oxide and hydroxyl (OH-) ions. These species resulted in the competitive interplay of self-healing and self-degradation mechanisms on the coin surfaces and formed corrosion thickness of ~9.31 μm and a mean corrosion rate of ~2.7%. This study provided an important guideline for preserving microstructures and surface patterns of historical copper coins.
