Abstract
BACKGROUND Medical students face significant psychological stress, impacting their academic performance and well-being. The Systematic Assessment for Resilience (SAR) framework is designed to enhance resilience and mitigate stress among medical students, addressing the need for interventions within the assessment system in medical education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation of SAR framework on medical students' resilience, anxiety, depression, burnout, and academic stress. METHODS This study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-testing. It involved the training of course coordinators in implementing the SAR framework and its integration into the daily learning activities. Fourth-year medical students were assessed before and after the intervention using standardized measures of resilience, anxiety, depression, burnout, and academic stress. Data were analyzed using quantitative methods and thematic analysis for qualitative feedback. RESULTS Post-intervention, students demonstrated a significant increase in resilience scores (p < 0.001) and a notable decrease in measures of anxiety, depression, and academic stress (p < 0.001). The burnout types were also statistically different (p < 0.001) except client-related burnout (p > 0.05). Qualitative feedback of the course coordinators highlighted an improved learning environment, increased coping strategies, and a more supportive academic culture. CONCLUSION The SAR framework significantly contributes to enhancing medical students' resilience and reducing psychological distress. Its implementation suggests a promising approach to fostering a supportive educational environment that not only addresses the psychological challenges faced by medical students but also enhances their academic performance and overall well-being. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term impacts of SAR across different medical education contexts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on healthcare services globally. In care settings such as small rural nursing homes and homes care services leaders were forced to confront, and adapt to, both new and ongoing challenges to protect their employees and patients and maintain their organization's operation. The aim of this study was to assess how healthcare leaders, working in rural primary healthcare services, led nursing homes and homecare services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the study sought to explore how adaptations to changes and challenges induced by the pandemic were handled by leaders in rural nursing homes and homecare services. METHODS The study employed a qualitative explorative design with individual interviews. Nine leaders at different levels, working in small, rural nursing homes and homecare services in western Norway were included. RESULTS Three main themes emerged from the thematic analysis: "Navigating the role of a leader during the pandemic," "The aftermath - management of COVID-19 in rural primary healthcare services", and "The benefits and drawbacks of being small and rural during the pandemic." CONCLUSIONS Leaders in rural nursing homes and homecare services handled a multitude of immediate challenges and used a variety of adaptive strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. While handling their own uncertainty and rapidly changing roles, they also coped with organizational challenges and adopted strategies to maintain good working conditions for their employees, as well as maintain sound healthcare management. The study results establish the intricate nature of resilient leadership, encompassing individual resilience, personality, governance, resource availability, and the capability to adjust to organizational and employee requirements, and how the rural context may affect these aspects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Direct support professionals support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with essential health and community living needs. Despite an unrelenting workforce shortage crisis, limited evidence-based resources exist for their support. Resilience, or the ability to thrive in the face of challenges, is a target for health care professional wellbeing initiatives. As an "invisible" workforce interspersed throughout various community-based settings, direct support professionals may benefit from resources provided via mobile health apps. OBJECTIVES To assess direct support professionals' acceptability of and preferences for the design of a mobile health app prototype to support their resilience, DSP Thrive. METHOD This concept generation and prototype design study employed a two-phase qualitative-descriptive design. Phase 1 assessed direct support professionals' acceptability of and preferences for a mobile health app for direct support professional resilience. Phase 2 elicited feedback on mock-up images of an initial prototype. Data were collected via qualitative interviews (n = 13), and transcripts were analyzed using content analysis. RESULTS Phase 1: Direct support professionals identified three primary opportunities for an app to support their resilience: learning via educational resources, practicing resilience strategies, and cultivating a peer support network. Based on these findings, the DSP Thrive app prototype was designed with Learn, Practice, and Connect functions. Phase 2: User feedback on walk-throughs of mock-up images indicated initial acceptability of the prototype design with considerations for further development identified. CONCLUSIONS Engaging direct support professionals in user-centered design of mobile health apps may help to bridge the gap to resilience resources for this essential workforce population.

Abstract
Workplace violence (WPV) exposure has been particularly prevalent in emergency nurses, coupled with negative mental health outcomes. Few explored resilience after WPV exposure using the perspective of positive mental health. We aimed to identify latent profiles of resilience and examine associations with flourishing in emergency nurses with WPV exposure. A total of 1241 Chinese emergency nurses were surveyed on the frequency of WPV exposure, resilience, and flourishing. Eight hundred and twenty five participants (90.1% female, 86.6% aged 20-39) reported WPV exposure at least once in the past 3 months. Latent profile analysis identified profiles of resilience as low resilience (15.0%), moderate decision respond and interpersonal link with low rational thought and flexible adaption (18.0%), moderate resilience (31.0%), high decision respond, interpersonal link, and rational thought with moderate flexible adaption (16.0%), and high resilience (20.0%). Higher flourishing was observed in profiles of moderate resilience, high decision respond, interpersonal link, and rational thought with moderate flexible adaption, and high resilience. We differentiated profiles of resilience and the associations with flourishing in emergency nurses with WPV exposure, which informed targeted interventions for promoting positive mental health.

Abstract
Introduction Workplace Mental health promotion in healthcare sector, is a global priority due to the stress associated with caregiving environments and the increase of mental health problems among health professionals and students. The role of emotional intelligence (EI) and sense of coherence (SOC) have been identified as critical health protectors. However, the relationship between them as well as the underlying mechanisms of these relationships on health benefits in this population is still unclear. Aim To synthetize the existing literature on the relationship between emotional intelligence and sense of coherence, as well as their mutual impact on healthcare workers' and student's well-being. Method A scoping review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines. A systematic search was conducted in PsyCINFO, CINHAL, SCOPUS and PUBMED databases, using key-terms such as students, health professionals, emotional intelligence, and sense of coherence. Results A total of 11 articles were included, with a range of years from 2014 to 2022. Evidence was found to support the positive relationship between sense of coherence and emotional intelligence. The use of EI as a training pathway to improve SOC and health promoting behaviors is suggested. The benefits of intervening on these factors contribute to improved health professionals' and students' general well-being and motivation for a better performance, either in their studies or clinical work. Conclusion The positive relationship between emotional intelligence and a sense of coherence has direct and indirect benefits on students' and healthcare professionals' well-being. Future studies should address longitudinal and experimental analysis to confirm these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is common and can lead to worse outcomes for both healthcare workers and patients. Our study purpose was to assess the structural relationship among factors that protect against or worsen burnout. DATA SOURCES AND STUDY SETTING We surveyed healthcare professionals in 15 different Japanese intensive care units during the 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2021). Surveys assessed burnout (Mini Z 2.0), resilience (Brief Resilience Scale), depressive (PHQ-9) and anxiety (GAD-7) symptoms, job and work environment characteristics, and personal experience with COVID. We explored survey domains with principal component factor analysis and modeled our results using structural equation modeling. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Among 936 ICU professionals, 24.3% met criteria for burnout. Our model suggested that resilience (β = - 0.26, 95% CI - 0.32 to - 0.20), teamwork (β = - 0.23, 95% CI - 0.30 to - 0.16), and feeling safe (β = - 0.11, 95% CI - 0.18 to - 0.04) reduced burnout. Depression (β = - 0.32, 95% CI - 0.41 to - 0.23) and anxiety (β = - 0.20, 95% CI - 0.29 to - 0.10) both decreased resilience as did COVID fear (β = 0.08, 95% CI - 0.14 to - 0.02). In addition to directly reducing resilience, anxiety also indirectly reduced resilience by increasing COVID fear (0.23, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.23), which decreased resilience (β - 0.08, 95% CI - 0.14 to - 0.02). CONCLUSIONS Burnout is common among Japanese ICU professionals. Resilience, teamwork, and safety are all correlated with reduced burnout. Those who had depression or anxiety or COVID fear had higher degrees of burnout, an effect that appears to be mediated by reduced resilience. These are potential targets for interventions to reduce burnout.

Abstract
Resilience is considered a core capability for nurses in managing workplace challenges and adversity. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought care homes into the public consciousness; yet, little is known about the resilience of care home nurses and the attributes required to positively adapt in a job where pressure lies with individuals to affect whole systems. To address this gap, an online survey was undertaken to explore the levels of resilience and potential influencing factors in a sample of care home nurses in Northern Ireland between January and April 2022. The survey included the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, demographic questions and items relating to nursing practice and care home characteristics. Mean differences and key predictors of higher resilience were explored through statistical analysis. A moderate level of resilience was reported among the participants (n = 56). The key predictors of increased resilience were older age and higher levels of education. The pandemic has exposed systemic weakness but also the strengths and untapped potential of the care home sector. By linking the individual, family, community and organisation, care home nurses may have developed unique attributes, which could be explored and nurtured. With tailored support, which capitalises on assets, they can influence a much needed culture change, which ensures the contribution of this sector to society is recognised and valued.

Abstract
Background: The concept of resilience is widely discussed in healthcare literature. There are various definitions and causal mechanisms underpinning the phenomenon of resilience.Aim: The aim of this study was to clarify this by exploring healthcare professionals' views on the meaning of resilience within their workplace settings. Design: A three-round Delphi survey.Methods: Based on a literature search, 41 'stem statements' related to resilience were constructed. This list was refined, extended, and restricted by a panel of experts.Results: The panel agreed on eight elements that best represented their perception of factors that impact either positively or negatively the level of resilience for UAE healthcare professionals.Conclusions: This consensus-based approach for the assessment of the level of resilience of HCP working in the UAE health system represents a first step toward the development of national guidelines for optimizing the health and wellbeing of healthcare professionals in the UAE.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The stress level among nurses is significantly high, which negatively affects the nurses' well-being and the quality of care provided to patients. The goal of this study was to measure the impact of implementing a resiliency training program on nurses. METHOD A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used to measure the impact of nurses' participation in a resiliency training program. The sample was recruited with the convenience sampling technique. Participants were allocated to groups according to their ability to attend all intervention sessions. A total of 137 participants completed all phases of the study. The study was conducted at a private hospital in Amman, Jordan. Data were collected at two time points, before the intervention and 1 week after the intervention. RESULTS Analysis of covariance was used to measure differences between groups after the intervention. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences (p < .001) in resilience and stress levels between the groups after the intervention. CONCLUSION Nurses in the intervention group showed a significant improvement in resilience scores and a significant reduction in stress scores. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2023;54(12):581-588.].

Abstract
BACKGROUND Surgery, as one of the main diagnostic and treatment methods, is a routine work in medical settings. Patients undergoing surgery often experience acute procedure anxiety due to uncertainty. There is ample evidence showing that uncertainty is a risk factor for the acute procedure anxiety in surgical patients. However, little is known about the psychological processes mediating this relationship. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate resilience as a mediator of the association between uncertainty and anxiety. METHODS A population-based cross-sectional survey with a convenience sampling method was conducted, involving 243 surgical patients in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province of China was carried out. Relevant data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires, including demographic characteristics questionnaire, Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS-C), Mishel's Illness Uncertainty Scale (MUIS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Pearson correlation analysis was employed to examine correlations between various variables. A path model was used to assess the mediation effect of resilience with respect to uncertainty and acute procedure anxiety. RESULTS In the path model, uncertainty have an indirect effect on acute procedure anxiety through resilience. The results suggest that resilience has a mediating role in uncertainty and acute procedure anxiety among surgical patients. CONCLUSIONS These findings call for the development of interventions targeting the role of resilience in effectively predicting and preventing acute procedure anxiety and uncertainty among surgical patients.

Abstract
Occupational psychosocial stress can increase the risk of several cardiometabolic diseases. Healthcare workers worldwide experience exceptionally high levels of occupational stress, leading to serious individual, organizational, and societal problems. This narrative review seeks to provide information about the overall consequences of having over-stressed healthcare workers and ascertain how it eventually holds back the advancement of healthcare. In addition, we present a review of the concept, study, and theories related to stress management in order to deeply understand this issue, providing a theoretical perspective of stress management and the subtle concepts of stress, stress management, healthcare structure, and organization in Nigeria. The current literature has shown that Nigerian healthcare workers are more stressed due to long working hours, caregiving responsibilities, and psychological contact with patients. Healthcare workers are more likely to experience stress and burnout than other professions. The level of stress in the healthcare sector has garnered a lot of attention in this regard because of the negative impact of stress on both staff and patients. However, health policies and better working conditions need to be adopted. Collaborative efforts from policymakers, healthcare institutions, and other stakeholders are necessary to prioritize the well-being and productivity of healthcare professionals in the journey toward a more robust and equitable healthcare system.

Abstract
The primary frontline healthcare providers who have frequent contact with COVID-19 patients are nurses. Many nurses have been infected with COVID-19 and have experienced severe emotional exhaustion and burnout. It is essential to assess nurses' psychological health during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with burnout, resilience, and empowerment among Indonesian COVID-19 nurse survivors. In this cross-sectional study, 182 COVID-19 survivor nurses participated from September to November 2022 with convenience sampling. An online survey using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the Psychological Empowerment Scale (PES) were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses. The majority of the nurses were aged between 30-45 years (61.6%), and females (67.4%) experienced burnout. Higher resilience was found among nurses contracting COVID-19 (83.1%). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the absence of psychological impact (OR = 0.44, 95% CI = 0.21-0.93) is significantly related to higher burnout experience. In addition, workplace, especially in hospital (OR = 4.32, 95% CI = 1.09-17.09) was associated with resilience, and a gap time after receiving negative COVID-19 result (OR = 3.90, 95% CI = 1.27-12.03) was correlated with psychological empowerment, in our results 4-6 month after had a negative result was at higher risk. To maintain a positive psychological aspect for COVID-19 nurse survivors, it needs to implement psychological support in the workplace and ensure an appropriate workload of nurse professionals.

Abstract
AIMS To describe medical-surgical nurses' reflections on their experiences with patient deterioration. BACKGROUND An extensive body of knowledge exists regarding optimal responses to acute patient deterioration within a hospital environment. Much less attention has focused on the profound psychological and emotional impact these experiences of unexpected deterioration can have on nurses who provided the supportive or rescue care. A triggering event, such as patient deterioration, or direct questioning about these experiences, can lead nurses to reflect further on the situation. Engaging in reflection is believed to enhance learning and improve clinical judgement when future complex situations arise. Findings related to nurses' reflective practice when recalling previous situations with deteriorating patients are limited. This gap in the literature provided the basis for the current project. DESIGN A qualitative descriptive design. METHODS Twenty medical-surgical nurses were interviewed in 2018. The nurses were recruited through purposive sampling. Semi-structured telephone interviews explored nurses' experiences of a patient deterioration. Conventional content analysis with iterative coding and categorising and theme development was used for data analysis. FINDINGS Three themes emerged as participants reflected on their experiences. The themes were, Enduring frustration and regret, Feeling deeply responsible for and to the patient and Making sense of what happened. CONCLUSIONS Medical-surgical nurses who care for acutely deteriorating patients can experience lasting emotional, psychological and physical concerns that often go unrecognised and untreated. Furthermore, nurses with this background commonly reported their perceived increased risk for workplace distress. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Findings from this study are important for nurses, healthcare administrators and leaders, and patients. Participating in a rescue attempt often has a negative impact on nurses' perception of workplace stress and on persistent concerns about nurses' mental and physical health. The findings can be useful in informing additional studies about the phenomenon. Findings also can inform the exploration of workplace design. Organisations should assess for factors influencing workplace stress, develop strategies to mitigate the presence of workplace stress and foster nurses' well-being so they can respond to future scenarios of patient deterioration, while maintaining their physical and mental health. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION This study did not include any patient or public input.

Abstract
Despite serving patients with especially high rates of trauma exposure and related sequelae, many primary care providers do not receive specialized training in the provision of trauma-informed care (TIC). This study sought to document primary care providers' baseline rates of TIC training and their knowledge, perceptions, and practice of TIC at a large, urban public hospital in the Southeastern United States. Participants (n = 67; 68.7% women; 44.8% white; Mage = 36.7 years, standard deviation [SD]age = 9.8 years) completed an online self-report survey on their TIC training status, trauma-related knowledge, perceptions, and practices, as well as burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Less than half of participants (43.3%) endorsed TIC training exposure. Participants generally had adequate levels of trauma-related knowledge (76.5% of items correct) and favorable perceptions of TIC (endorsed 89.7% of TIC-supportive statements). Most participants (86.6%) endorsed recently using trauma-informed practices, but only 47.8% reported routinely screening for trauma-related disorders. Participants who reported receiving prior TIC training scored better on knowledge items and endorsed recently using more trauma-informed practices than those who did not have training exposure. TIC training status' associations with current screening practices and perceptions of TIC were trending toward significance. TIC training status was not related to burnout, and trained participants reported greater secondary traumatic stress than those without training exposure. Results point to system-wide TIC training as a well-received, translational strategy that can enhance the trauma-informed nature of primary care provision.

Abstract
BACKGOUND Nurses working in care homes face significant challenges that are unique to that context. The importance of effective resilience building interventions as a strategy to enable recovery and growth in these times of uncertainty have been advocated. The aim of this rapid review was to inform the development of a resource to support the resilience of care home nurses. We explored existing empirical evidence as to the efficacy of resilience building interventions. undertaken with nurses. METHODS We undertook a rapid review using quantitative studies published in peer reviewed journals that reported resilience scores using a valid and reliable scale before and after an intervention aimed at supporting nurse resilience. The databases; Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Medline and PsychInfo. and the Cochrane Library were searched. The searches were restricted to studies published between January 2011 and October 2021 in the English language. Only studies that reported using a validated tool to measure resilience before and after the interventions were included. RESULTS Fifteen studies were included in this rapid review with over half of the studies taking place in the USA. No studies reported on an intervention to support resilience with care home nurses. The interventions focused primarily on hospital-based nurses in general and specialist contexts. The interventions varied in duration content and mode of delivery, with interventions incorporating mindfulness techniques, cognitive reframing and holistic approaches to building and sustaining resilience. Thirteen of the fifteen studies selected demonstrated an increase in resilience scores as measured by validated and reliable scales. Those studies incorporating 'on the job,' easily accessible practices that promote self-awareness and increase sense of control reported significant differences in pre and post intervention resilience scores. CONCLUSION Nurses continue to face significant challenges, their capacity to face these challenges can be nurtured through interventions focused on strengthening individual resources. The content, duration, and mode of delivery of interventions to support resilience should be tailored through co-design processes to ensure they are both meaningful and responsive to differing contexts and populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Research on burnout among physical therapists and occupational therapists in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is limited. Resilience may be important for reducing burnout and promoting well-being among rehabilitation specialists, especially during periods of elevated occupational demand and stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate experiences of burnout, COVID-19 pandemic-related distress, and resilience among physical therapists and occupational therapists during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Physical therapists and occupational therapists working in a university-affiliated health system were invited to complete an online survey assessing burnout, COVID-19 pandemic-related distress, state- and trait-like resilience, physical activity, sleep disturbance, and financial concerns. Multiple linear regressions were used to examine variables associated with burnout as well as the contribution of specific aspects of resilience to burnout. RESULTS Greater COVID-19 pandemic-related distress was associated with greater emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, whereas state-like resilience at work was associated with lower emotional exhaustion, greater personal accomplishment, and lower depersonalization. Analyses examining the impact of specific components of resilience at work suggested that several components are associated with less burnout, with finding one's calling being particularly relevant for all 3 domains of burnout. CONCLUSION Symptoms of burnout were reported by many physical therapists and occupational therapists. COVID-19-related distress and state-like resilience at work, particularly the perception of finding one's calling, emerged as consistently being associated with burnout in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. IMPACT These findings can inform the development of interventions to reduce burnout among physical therapists and occupational therapists amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While the necessity for interventions to build resilient nurses in the COVID-19 pandemic is recognized, there is disagreement about the effective methods for achieving this. AIM We present our research protocol that describes plans to design and test an interventional program for promoting nurses' resilience. DESIGN This sequential exploratory interventional mixed-methods study is conducted in three phases (qualitative, intervention design, and quantitative). METHODS It was funded from May 2021 for 24 months. In phase 1, we explored strategies for promoting resilience in the COVID-19 pandemic from nurses' perspectives (through semi-structured interviews). In phase 2, we will design an interventional program for promoting nurses' resilience (using the qualitative phase and literature review results). We will assess the program's effectiveness on nurses' resilience in a randomized controlled trial in phase 3. DISCUSSION Given the different experiences of nurses of resilience in COVID-19, our innovative program can guide future research to enhance nurses' resilience based on specific situations.

Abstract
Existing resilience measures have psychometric shortcomings, and there is no current gold-standard resilience measure. Previous work indicates adults enrolled in a health coaching program may benefit from a resilience measure that is tailored and contextualized to this sample. This two-part study aimed to develop and evaluate a resilience instrument focused on health behavior change in adults in a health coaching program. Two studies were conducted to (1) create a resilience instrument (Health Resilience Profile; HRP) specific to adults attempting health behavior change (n = 427; female = 83.8%; age = 44.5 ± 11.9 years) and to (2) optimize the instrument performance using Rasch analysis (n = 493; female = 62.1%; age = 49.8 ± 12.5 years). Study 1 identified two issues: (1) four unacceptable misfit items and (2) inappropriate rating scale functioning. Study 2 evaluated an improved instrument based on the outcome of study 1 resulting in one more misfit item, and unidimensionality was supported. The new four-category rating scale functioned well. The item-person map indicated that item difficulty distribution was well matched to participants' resilience level, and items were free from measurement error. Finally, items did not show differential item functioning across age, sex, alcohol use, and obesity status. The 18-item HRP is optimized for adults in a health coaching program.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate adoption, implementation and maintenance of the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland development programme. DESIGN A comprehensive, longitudinal, qualitative evaluation. METHOD Participants from the first two cohorts were interviewed at different stages to explore adoption, implementation and maintenance. Managers of participants engaged in interviews to explore service changes. Facilitators took part in a focus group exploring delivery. A member-checking event was held. Data collection was between March 2017 and October 2019. Data analysis was thematically followed by the application of Normalization Process Theory. RESULT Ninety-four interviews, two focus groups and a member-checking event were conducted. Prior to the programme most participants were burnt-out and considering leaving. Engaging led to a journey of self-discovery and transformation. The programme was perceived to change their way of thinking, personally and professionally, unlike any training and development previously experienced. Participants were rejuvenated and reinvigorated, sharing their learning with colleagues, service users and family, implementing new working practices and furthering their careers. They developed communities of practice amongst their cohorts with strong bonds; enabling them to build and sustain learnings. CONCLUSION Participants experienced a journey of self-discovery and transformation unlike anything before due to the personal investment in them. Participants were rejuvenated and reinvigorated with many moving into new roles. The programme equipped them with a range of leadership and resilience skills. IMPACT The Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland Development Programme had a profound impact on participants, personally and professionally, which was perceived as lifelong. These findings and programmes are transferable beyond Scotland and to different professions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to describe the effects of an intervention called "Compassion & Growth Workshops" on reported posttraumatic growth (PTG) using the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-Expanded (PTGI-X). BACKGROUND Few studies measure the impact of interventions, such as contemplative practices, on nurse PTG. METHODS We delivered a series of three 2-hour microretreats to nurses and advanced practice nurses and measured their impact on PTG scores. Using multivariate logistic regression, we identified cofactors predictive of 25% overall improvement on the PTGI-X. RESULTS Overall PTG increased among participants, with the greatest improvement in relating to others, new possibilities, and personal strength. Posttraumatic growth improved as workshop attendance increased; nurses providing direct patient care also benefitted the most. CONCLUSIONS Contemplative interventions can substantively improve PTG. This may be particularly relevant for coping with COVID pandemic stress among nurses on the frontlines and for healthcare leaders seeking to strengthen psychological support within their teams and reform the workplace environment.

Abstract
ABSTRACT With about one-third of nurses having expressed an intention to leave the profession or change jobs in 2022, the effects of nursing job stress are evident. For nurses to continue to provide care in high stress, they must practice self-compassion and build resilience. The importance of resilience education and self-compassion for nurses and in nursing education is discussed from a Christian perspective, along with self-care strategies using the R.E.S.T. (Relationship, Exercise, Self-Compassion, Transformative Thinking) framework. Strategies for building resilience for both individuals and organizations are offered.

Abstract
Competency-based education that relies on nurses' and healthcare professionals' needs assessment is crucial to tackling healthcare crises such as COVID-19. Strengthening the capacities of human resources by implementing customized infection control training programs is therefore mandatory. This study aims to measure the effectiveness and satisfaction of the Competency Outcomes and Performance Assessment (COPA)-based training program. The study implemented a single group pretest-posttest experimental design. A single-stage cluster sampling technique was used. All field hospitals in Jordan were listed, and one hospital was randomly selected. A total of 87 personnel from different disciplines agreed to participate after reading the letter of information and signing the informed consent. A panel of experts representing different disciplines and hospital units initially met and agreed upon a list of competencies required for the training program, and the program was accordingly developed. The study measured the healthcare professionals' competencies in infection control and prevention before and after the administration of the competency-based training program. The results revealed significant differences between participants' pretest and posttest scores in all infection control domains and the total scores. For example, the increase in participants' total competency scores after the training was statistically significant (P < 0.007). The mean total satisfaction score was 61.18 + 7.00 reflecting that the participants were highly satisfied with the provided training. In conclusion, it is imperative to provide healthcare professionals with adequate clinical training to ensure that healthcare services are going to be delivered in the highest possible quality and minimize the possible adverse events.

Abstract
Background It remains unclear how fear of COVID-19 and resilience are related to psychological distress based on occupations among healthcare workers (HCWs) in hospitals treating patients with COVID-19. We conducted a survey on the mental health of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic to determine the relationship between factors such as fear of COVID-19 and resilience as well as mental distress in each occupation of HCWs. Methods We conducted a web-based survey among HCWs at seven hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in Japan from December 24, 2020 to March 31, 2021. A total of 634 participants were analyzed, and information regarding their socio-demographic characteristics and employment status was collected. Several psychometric measures were used, including the Kessler's Psychological Distress Scale (K6), the fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), and the Resilience Scale (RS14). Factors related to psychological distress were identified by logistic regression analysis. The association between job title and psychological scales was examined by one-way ANOVA, and t-tests were conducted to examine the association between the FCV-19S and hospital initiatives. Results It was found that nurses and clerical workers were associated with psychological distress without considering FCV-19S or RS14; in a model that included FCV-19S, FCV-19S was associated with psychological distress, but job title was not; when RS14 was considered, resilience was protective. In terms of occupation, FCV-19S was lower among physicians and higher among nurses and clerical workers, while RS14 was higher among physicians and lower among other occupations. Having access to in-hospital consultation regarding infection control as well as to psychological and emotional support was associated with lower FCV-19S. Conclusion Based on our findings, we can conclude that the level of mental distress differed by occupation and the differences in the fear of COVID-19 and resilience were important factors. In order to provide mental healthcare for HCWs during a pandemic, it is important to create consultation services that enable employees to discuss their concerns. In addition, it is important to take steps to strengthen the resilience of HCWs in preparation for future disasters.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate interventions shown to improve nurse resilience in the acute care settings. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH The study was a systematically conducted scoping review of the literature. Databases including MEDLINE/PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Emerald insight and Google Scholar were searched and this complemented by reviews of the reference lists. FINDINGS In total, 13 papers were included in the review but there was limited evidence of the effectiveness of individual programs. The authors found that resilience training programs for individuals reviewed provided some evidence for the effectiveness of the training. However, the context of job design, work risks and leadership require attention. ORIGINALITY/VALUE Resilience is an important requirement for nursing staff that helps to mitigate the stress of the working environment, particularly in the acute care setting. However, the managerial strategies required to build resilience are not well known or applied. The findings of this research may help to design cohesive and comprehensive management programs to promote and preserve nursing resilience in acute care settings. Any such program needs to reflect the four key themes that appear to underpin resilience: relationships, motivation, emotions and well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Line management tends to be associated with increased responsibility and accountability in the workplace and can be a challenging and high-pressured role. More resilient line managers are more likely to continue to perform despite work stressors. AIMS This study aimed to assess the association of various coping strategies and resources on resilience levels amongst line managers working within a corporate office-based environment. METHODS A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was carried out over 4 weeks in 2020. The questionnaire probed demographic factors and the use of strategies and resources which may enhance resilience. Resilience was assessed using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. RESULTS On regression analysis, resilience tended to increase with increasing years of line management. When each strategy/resource was considered separately and adjusted for the number of years of line management, exercise outside of work (B, 0.302; 95% confidence intervals [CIs], 0.109 to 0.495), hobbies/interests (B, 0.252; 95% CIs, 0.095 to 0.410) and socializing (B, 0.204; 95% CIs, 0.042 to 0.367) were all significant predictors of resilience. CONCLUSIONS The key coping strategies and resources that had the strongest association with resilience amongst office-based line managers were those that related to their personal lives, with exercise being of particular importance. This study highlights the importance of emphasizing work-life balance and lifestyle factors within workplace manager training and resilience programmes, as well as in the occupational health clinic. Additional support and health promotion for managers in their first few years of management responsibility may also be beneficial.

Abstract
Healthcare worker burnout is a well-established phenomenon known to affect an individual's mental state, and has been shown to be diminished amongst individuals with higher levels of resilience. From a leadership perspective, practices that drive and inspire others to demonstrate resilience and surpass their own expectations fosters a resilient culture and allows employees to view adversity as an opportunity while knowing that support is omnipresent. In this paper, we describe and evaluate the outcomes of a virtual organizational intervention during the COVID-19 pandemic aimed to reduce healthcare staff burnout, and improve their levels of resilience, well-being, and self-compassion. Participants reported the workshops were relevant and provided strategies for wellness that were easy to incorporate into their daily routine. By nurturing one's own personal well-being through resiliency strategies learned in this educational series, staff can enact strategies to care for themselves, which in turn can contribute to organizational wide healthy work environments, improved health system outcomes, and enhanced patient care.

Abstract
Background Resilience refers to the process through which individuals deal with the adversity they experience. Previous research has shown there are multiple factors that contribute to individuals’ resilience, leading to increasing interest in the development of multidimensional resilience models. Once such recently proposed model is The Resilience Shield, which clusters groups of protective factors into different shield layers. The stronger these layers, the better the protection against adversity (Pronk et al. in The Resilience Shield, Pan Macmillan Australia, 2021). While this model was based in part on existing literature, no empirical evaluation has occurred to date. The aim of this study was therefore to evaluate the model fit for each of the modifiable shield layers and the overall model, and to examine whether each of the constructs included contributes to observed resilience scores.
Methods Participants completed a series of questionnaires via The Resilience Shield website assessing constructs relevant to each resilience shield layer. Data from 3337 participants was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling and regression analyses.
Results The results showed acceptable fit of the measurement model for the Social, Mind, and Professional Layers, but poor fit for the Body Layer. There was also good fit for the overall model. In addition, all but one of the constructs included in The Resilience Shield survey explained independent variance in either dispositional resilience scores, or dispositional vulnerability scores. Conclusion These results broadly support the multidimensional structure proposed by The Resilience Shield model and suggest that (at least in the population in which it was tested) this may be an acceptable model to index individuals’ performance on a range of indicators that contribute to resilience.

Abstract
Background: Burnout is a significant concern among health care professionals, particularly those working in the emergency department (ED). Given the negative personal and professional consequences that burnout can have on all health care professionals, multidisciplinary solutions are needed to address burnout. Our objective was to evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of resilience training delivered through a smartphone application on burnout among health care professionals working at a tertiary-care pediatric ED. Methods: We conducted a single-center pilot randomized controlled study enrolling multidisciplinary health care professionals working in our ED. Participants assigned to the intervention group received self-driven access to a smartphone application that provided a structured resilience curriculum for a period of 3 months. The participants completed psychometric assessments both prior to and following the invention period. Changes in psychometric measures of the intervention group were then compared with a waitlist-control group. Results: Following the intervention period, a total of 20 participants were included in the final analysis. The change in participant scores on psychometric measures prior to and following the intervention period was calculated. A statistically significant mean decrease in burnout measure (emotional exhaustion subscale of Maslach-Burnout Inventory mean score −5.88, p < .001) and increase in mindfulness measure (Mindful Attention Awareness Scale mean score 0.51, p < .001) was observed among the intervention group participants. Conclusions/Application to Practice: Our study suggests that a resilience training program delivered using a smartphone application can be an effective intervention in reducing burnout and increasing mindfulness skills. Our study also demonstrated the potential feasibility of a randomized controlled study of burnout within a multidisciplinary group of health care professionals.

Abstract
Resilience is important to the academic and career success of nursing students; however, the literature on nursing student resilience is sparse and remains undertheorized. This article describes nursing students' perspectives on sources of resilience during nursing school at one institution of higher learning. A constant comparative analysis of baccalaureate nursing student focus group responses was performed. Three themes emerged: negative experiences, supportive structures and relationships, and individual coping processes and abilities. Interrelationships between thematic findings highlight the centrality of supportive structures and relationships. Based on these findings, theoretical guidance for future nursing student resilience assessments and interventions is provided.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify specific coping skills that contribute to relieving anxiety and stress while supporting student nurses' mental health and psychological well-being. DESIGN AND METHOD This is a cross-sectional online survey involving 261 students nurses from private and government-owned nursing schools in the Central Philippines. RESULTS Resilience was associated with reduced stress and anxiety and better mental health and psychological well-being. Mental disengagement was associated with lower anxiety and stress levels. Spiritual and not scientific sources of support were associated with lower stress and increased psychological well-being and mental health. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Nurse faculty should foster functional coping skills in student nurses to enhance their ability to endure negative psychological and mental health outcomes related to the pandemic.

Abstract
PurposeThis study aimed to understand the effect of repeated exposure to personal threats on hospital security guards' well-being.Design/methodology/approachA single site, qualitative study using a convenience sampling approach to recruit hospital security guards who attend code black (staff, patient or visitor exposed to a personal threat) calls.FindingsFive interviews were held with eight hospital security guards. Seven of the eight participants were male. Seven were Caucasian. All had extensive experience in the industry. Six consistent themes emerged from the data covering well-being, coping and support; concerns about physical safety; compassion and compassion fatigue; effective communication is crucial; role/s; and training and equipment.Research limitations/implicationsThis study used a convenient sampling approach to recruit security guards from one acute hospital in Australia, limiting the applicability of the findings to other contexts. Although the majority of hospital security guards were interviewed, the format of interviews varied between one-to-one interviews and focus groups, based on the availability of guards to participate and attend.Practical implicationsWe recommend that the role of the hospital security guard in Code black situations is documented in policy and practice documents, and articulated in multidisciplinary aggression management training. There should be clear statements on the importance of strong communication and clinical leadership in code black situations. Hospital security guards should attend Mental Health First Aid training, which teaches on and off the job coping strategies. There is a need for debriefing and consideration should be given to supporting “time-out”. Hospital security guards require education on infection control and the risks associated with blood and body fluids.Originality/valueHospital security guards play an important role in the safety of patients and staff in code black situations. When they are well supported, they experience high levels of job satisfaction and are able to maintain their compassion towards people who are aggressive and violent towards them. However, repeated exposure to code black situations has the potential to erode the well-being of hospital security guards.

Abstract
This article proposes an integrative model for the psychological resources of grit. The growing body of work in nursing on the topic of grit indicates considerable interest in achieving long-term goals, especially amidst uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic. Motivational behaviors are thought to influence engagement in continuing education in nursing, thereby improving clinical practice and patient outcomes. The model was informed by a comprehensive review of the literature. Sixteen attributes for acquiring and strengthening four psychological resources of grit were identified. Each attribute is discussed along with interrelationships and implications for professional nursing development. Given the complex demands placed on health professionals, this model is both timely and relevant for all nurse and education providers interested in enhancing personal characteristics that may mitigate against stress and build capabilities for goal achievement. Abstract
Background Long-term care of a relative with a disability is associated with negative consequences on the caregiver's mental health. Therefore, investigating how some personality traits, such as resilience, protect caregivers with dysfunctional personality traits from caregiving stress is necessary. This study examines the moderating role of resilience in the relationship between caregiver's personality dysfunction and care stress. Methods A total of 224 family caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities participated in this cross-sectional research. They completed self-report measures of resilience, personality dysfunction, and care stress. Results The results show that medium and high levels of resilience protect familial caregivers from the adverse effects of personality dysfunction on stress. The relationship is maintained for three of the five dysfunctional personality traits (antagonism, disinhibition, and psychoticism). Conclusions From a theoretical point of view, the results show the contribution of the dimensional personality model to the study of caregiving stress. From a practical standpoint, the results can be used to optimise the resilience of familial caregivers, providing them with tools to take better care of their relatives.

Abstract
Mental health nurses are exposed frequently to occupational stress and can experience a range of negative impacts on their well-being and intention to stay in the nursing workforce. Promoting Resilience in Nurses (PRiN) is a strength-based resilience education programme that incorporates evidence-based cognitive behavioural and interpersonal approaches with post-traumatic growth theory. A partially clustered randomized controlled trial at a large public mental health service will be used to examine the effects of PRiN on mental health nurses' coping self-efficacy, resilience, well-being, mental health, emotional regulation, post-traumatic growth, workplace belonging, and turnover intention as compared to controls. Process evaluations are increasingly used to help understand and interpret trial results for complex interventions. This paper describes the protocol for an embedded mixed methods process evaluation that aims to evaluate the PRiN programme implementation and identify factors that may explain variation in participant outcomes in the trial. Data collection includes a programme participant satisfaction survey; a follow-up semi-structured interview with selected programme participants; a unit/team manager survey on barriers and facilitators to staff recruitment and programme participation; and a fidelity checklist completed by programme facilitators. Normalisation Process Theory will be used to inform data analysis and integration. The findings will provide insights into factors that affect programme implementation, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and may help explain differences in participant outcomes. Findings will also inform post-trial programme sustainability as well as potential future upscale and adaptation for implementation across healthcare settings.

Abstract
AbstractDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) have faced unprecedented workloads and personal health risks leading to mental disorders and surges in sickness absence. Previous work has shown that interindividual differences in psychological resilience might explain why only some individuals are vulnerable to these consequences. However, no prognostic tools to predict individual HCW resilience during the pandemic have been developed. We deployed machine learning (ML) to predict psychological resilience during the pandemic. The models were trained in HCWs of the largest Finnish hospital, Helsinki University Hospital (HUS, N = 487), with a six-month follow-up, and prognostic generalizability was evaluated in two independent HCW validation samples (Social and Health Services in Kymenlaakso: Kymsote, N = 77 and the City of Helsinki, N = 322) with similar follow-ups never used for training the models. Using the most predictive items to predict future psychological resilience resulted in a balanced accuracy (BAC) of 72.7–74.3% in the HUS sample. Similar performances (BAC = 67–77%) were observed in the two independent validation samples. The models' predictions translated to a high probability of sickness absence during the pandemic. Our results provide the first evidence that ML techniques could be harnessed for the early detection of COVID-19-related distress among HCWs, thereby providing an avenue for potential targeted interventions.

Abstract
Social workers during the COVID-19 pandemic are at risk due to exposure to varied populations in need, which may impact their resilience, burnout, secondary trauma, and compassion satisfaction. The study assessed resilience at work, burnout, secondary trauma, and compassion satisfaction among social workers in Israel during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic (May to June 2020). A convenience sample of 332 social workers (291 women (87.6%)) filled out an online, structured questionnaire that included demographics, a professional quality of life scale (ProQOL) (including three subscales), and resilience at work (RAW) (including seven subscales). The overall mean of the RAW was medium (M = 71, SD ± 8.9) compared to standardized scores. The mean scores of two of the subscales of the RAW, maintaining perspective and staying healthy, were low. The mean scores of the sub-scales of ProQOL were: compassion satisfaction was close to the 50th percentile (M = 48.25); burnout (M = 30.18) and secondary trauma (M = 26.27) were below the 25th percentile. Significant low to medium positive associations were found between all the dependent variables, except for staying healthy. A negative association was identified between compassion satisfaction and burnout, as well as between compassion satisfaction and secondary trauma. High levels of compassion satisfaction and contentment, low levels of secondary trauma, and having a managerial position were predicted to be 40% of the RAW. Lower levels of maintaining perspective, secondary trauma, and being younger predicted 27% of burnout. Higher levels of finding your calling, living authentically, maintaining perspective, interacting cooperatively, being older, and not being a manager predicted 58% of compassion satisfaction. Lower levels of burnout, maintaining perspective, and being younger predicted 36% of secondary trauma. As the COVID-19 pandemic still challenges most societies, policymakers should consider ways to integrate mechanisms that will enhance social workers’ resilience at work.

Abstract
AIM To explore interventions and coping strategies used to treat the psychological symptoms associated with compassion fatigue among nurses. BACKGROUND The rapid transmission of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19) has put nurses, around the world, at high risk of developing profound psychological health issues due to compassion fatigue. If unrelieved, compassion fatigue can lead to catastrophic psychological symptoms such as depression, stress, anxiety, and insomnia, negatively impacting patient care. This necessitates interventions to prevent or mitigate the psychological symptoms of compassion fatigue. METHOD Following Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method, the literature search comprised three databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE-OVID, and Scopus. RESULTS The 11 included studies were categorized into four themes: (1) using relaxation strategies, (2) neutralizing emotional trauma, (3) enhancing nurses' preparedness for confronting disasters, and (4) educating nurses about coping strategies to manage their psychological issues. CONCLUSION Researchers studied several coping strategies and interventions. There is a need for policymakers' support and hospital-level interventions. Early interventions may prevent or relieve psychological issues. IMPLICATIONS The findings have implications for hospital leaders around the world to initiate interventions that teach nurses strategies to cope with stressful events. Future researchers might consider long-term supports and multiple interventions that target several leading causes of psychological symptoms among nurses before, during, and after high-stress situations. Policymakers around the world could use the findings to initiate policies to facilitate nurses' access to needed resources, hence protecting their mental health and increasing the quality of patient care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Advanced practice RNs (APRNs) working in rural primary care provide a spectrum of health care needs that can lead to professional burnout. As a preventative for burnout, the Institute of Medicine developed a strategy focused on self-care. Understanding the importance of self-care as a preventive for building professional resilience to manage workplace stressors during students' academic years may improve retention. METHOD Twenty-two APRN students participated in a rural primary care immersion course with a specific component on self-care. Preand postsurveys, student journaling, class discussions, and a posttraining focus group were used to assess students' progress. RESULTS Students reported strengthening patient and team relationships, enhanced interpersonal communication, and increased self-awareness of stressors for managing their emotions. These self-imposed processes improved student confidence, job satisfaction, and workplace resilience. CONCLUSION Heath-promoting behaviors via self-care during APRN students' formal education may assist them in their clinical practice as rural primary care providers. Abstract
COVID-19 has significantly affected the work environment of nurses. In the face of the challenges posed by stressors in clinical practice, some nurses adapt and prove to be resilient. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nature of care itself and the new ways of working are potentially very stressful. We aim to analyze the resilience of care nurses to the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a systematic review of nurse caregiver resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Our search was conducted in the WOS, Medline/PubMed, Cochrane, BVS/LILACS, and Cuiden databases. The inclusion criteria were: studies published in Spanish or English; carried out from March 2020 to May 2021 on nurses caring for patients with COVID-19; and investigating the factors influencing the psychological impact, resilience, strategies to develop it, and interventions to promote it during this pandemic and others, such as SARS, MERS, or ebola. The quality of the studies and the risk of bias were evaluated following ICROMS, STROBE and AMSTAR-2 criteria. Twenty-two studies were selected. Most of the studies highlighted the presence of stressors in nurses, emphasizing those of the environment, which converged in dysfunctional responses that hurt their resilience. The most persuasive factors were social and organizational support. Coping strategies developed by nurses and especially interventions by organizations were detected as instruments to foster resilience, but have not been well researched. Resilience has a key moderating role in mitigating the psychological impact of nurses in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Consistent data demonstrates negative psychological effects of caregiving on front-line health professionals. Evidence that psychological resilience factors can help minimize distress and the potential for low-cost interventions have created interest in resilience-based development programmes; yet evidence of perceived value amongst health professionals is lacking. This study explored health professionals' experiences and perceptions of a novel, resilience-based intervention designed to pro-actively prepare staff for coping with error; to investigate their perceptions of what resilience meant to them, the relevance of the intervention, and impact of participation on ability to cope with error. METHODS Semi-structured interviews 4-6 weeks post intervention with 23 randomly selected participants from seven cohorts (midwives, paediatricians, obstetricians/gynaecologists, paramedics) and trainees (physician associates, mammographers, sonographers). Thematic analysis of interview data. FINDINGS Participants reported various interpretations of, and a shift in perception regarding what the concept of psychological resilience meant to them and their practice. These included for example, resilience as a positive or negative concept and their awareness and response to a range of personal, organizational and system factors influencing personal resilience. They valued the prophylactic, clinically relevant, interactive and applied nature of the intervention; having developed and applied valuable skills beyond the context of involvement in error, noting that individuals needed to be willing to explore their own coping mechanisms and human fallibility to gain maximum benefit. There was also consensus that whilst proactively developing individual level psychological resilience is important, so too is addressing the organizational and system factors that affect staff resilience which are outside individual staff control. CONCLUSION Enhancing resilience appears to be considered useful in supporting staff to prepare for coping with error and the wider emotional burden of clinical work, but such interventions require integration into wider system approaches to reduce the burden of clinical work for health professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Academic self-efficacy (ASE) has been found to be an important motivator for academic success among nursing students. The associations between ASE, resilience and social support have not been fully explored among nursing students, especially those in their first year who are learning online. OBJECTIVES To explore a) the associations between ASE, resilience and social support among first-year nursing students learning in an online learning environment; and b) students' views regarding the difficulties they have encountered and the available assistance. DESIGN AND METHODS A cross-sectional survey design on a sample of 222 undergraduate first-year Israeli nursing students. Questions were uploaded in the format of a commercial internet survey provider (Qualtrics.com) and distributed through the university's online learning platform. RESULTS Positive correlations were found between ASE and resilience and social support. Significant differences were found in the research variables according to the students' gender, cultural group and their perceived difficulty in studies. Resilience, social support, perceived difficulty in studies and being a female explained 31% of the students' variance in ASE. CONCLUSIONS Nurse educators should develop and promote strategies to enhance students' resilience and perceived social support. These have the potential to significantly improve students' ASE also in online environments. In addition, faculty should promote the preparation of online learning environments in accordance with students' needs and proficiencies.

Abstract
In this study, a new group intervention program to foster resilience in nursing professionals was tested for efficacy. In total, 72 nurses were recruited and randomised to either an intervention condition or to a wait list control condition. The study had a pre-test, post-test, follow-up design. The eight-week program targeted six resilience factors: cognitive flexibility, coping, self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-care, and mindfulness. Compared to the control group, the intervention group reported a significant improvement in the primary outcome mental health (measured with the General Health Questionnaire) from pre-test (M = 20.79; SD = 9.85) to post-test (M = 15.81; SD = 7.13) with an estimated medium effect size (p = 0.03, η2 = 0.08) at post-test. Further significant improvements were found for resilience and other resilience related outcomes measures. The individual stressor load of the subjects was queried retrospectively in each measurement. Stress levels had a significant influence on mental health. The intervention effect was evident even though the stress level in both groups did not change significantly between the measurements. Follow-up data suggest that the effects were sustained for up to six months after intervention. The resilience intervention reduced mental burden in nurses and also positively affected several additional psychological outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Due to the rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) around the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. This declaration had an unprecedented impact on health profession education, especially the clinical clerkship of nursing and medical students. The teaching hospitals had to suspend traditional bedside clinical teaching and switch to digital education. OBJECTIVE To systematically synthesize the available literature on the application of digital education in undergraduate nursing and medical interns during the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN A systematic review informed by PRISMA guidelines. DATA SOURCES Five electronic databases were systematically searched: PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE (OVID), CINAHL and the Cochrane Library. REVIEW METHODS The retrieved articles were screened at the title, abstract, and full text stages. The Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was used to assess the quality of quantitative and mixed-method studies. Then, two reviewers extracted the quantitative data of the included studies. RESULTS A total of 4596 studies were identified following a comprehensive search, and 16 studies were included after removing duplicates and screening, which focused on undergraduate nursing students (3 studies) and medical students (13 studies). We found that the standalone digital education modalities were as effective as conventional learning for knowledge and practice. Different educational technologies have different effects on the knowledge and practice of interns. CONCLUSION Digital education plays a significant role in distance training for nursing and medical interns both now and in the future. The overall risk of bias was high, and the quality of evidence was found to be variable. There is a need for further research designing more quasi-experimental studies to assess the effectiveness of standalone digital education interventions for the remote training of nursing or medical interns to be fully prepared for emergencies.

Abstract
The past decade has seen growing interest in interventions that build resilience as a complementary practice to trauma-informed care. From school-based programs focused on self-regulation and academic success to programs that support the well-being of disadvantaged populations or healthcare workers at risk of burnout, the concept of resilience is being used most commonly for programming that builds the capacity of individuals to adapt under conditions of adversity. Critiques have raised concerns that resilience-promoting programs demonstrate bias toward changing individual-level factors such as cognitions (e.g., mindfulness and grit), behavior (e.g., expressing gratitude and changing personal routines), or attachments (e.g., feeling secure in relationships) which help people adapt to socially toxic situations without changing access to the resources they require to overcome exposure to adverse psychosocial factors. This trend belies advances to the theory of resilience which support a more contextualized, multisystemic understanding of how external protective factors (resources) enhance individual qualities (ruggedness) and vice versa. Building on a multisystemic description of resilience, the R2 Resilience Program© was developed and piloted with six different populations ranging from clients of urban social services to workers in a long-term care facility, managers in the health care sector, staff of a Fortune 500 corporation, students in a primary to grade 12 school, and adult volunteers affiliated with an international NGO. Focused on building both individual ruggedness and enhancing people's resources (the two Rs), the program provides contextualized content for each population by selecting from 52 resilience promoting factors with a strong evidence base to create training curricula that enhance the personal qualities and social, physical, and institutional resources most likely to support resilience. This paper reviews the justification for a multisystemic approach to designing resilience interventions and then explains the process of implementation of the R2 program. Preliminary findings are reported, which suggest the program is experienced as effective, with evaluations ongoing.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the impact and the possible role of psychological resilience in the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak on healthcare workers' mental and physical well-being in Belgium. DESIGN This cross-sectional, survey-based study enrolled 1376 healthcare workers across Belgium from 17 April 2020 to 24 April 2020. METHODS The study sample consisted of direct care workers (nurses and doctors), supporting staff and management staff members. The main outcomes are resilience, distress and somatization. RESULTS Higher educational level was associated with lower symptoms of distress and somatization. Physicians exhibited the lowest risk of experiencing heightened levels of distress and somatization. Controlling for confounding factors, higher levels of resilience were associated with a 12% reduced chance of increased distress levels and 5% lower chance of increased somatization levels. Our results suggest the potentially buffering role of mental resilience on those working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

Abstract
Nurses frequently face stressful situations during work, which makes resilience an essential quality of their personality to cope with professional stress and to prevent burnout. Resilience can be improved by training and practice. To analyze the effect of resilience training in nurses, studies reporting the changes in resilience before and after resilience training were identified by conducting the literature search in electronic databases. Meta-analyses of standardized mean differences (SMDs) between postintervention and preintervention scores of resilience and other related variables were performed. Thirteen studies (576 nurse participants) were included. Resilience training improved the resilience scores of the participants (SMD, 0.58; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.23-0.94; P = .001), whereas there was no improvement in the resilience scores of nurses who did not participate in resilience training (SMD, -0.13; 95% CI, -0.54 to 0.27; P = .523). The stress (SMD, -0.60; 95% CI, -0.80 to -0.40; P < .00001), anxiety (SMD, -0.50; 95% CI, -0.80 to -0.20; P = .001), depression (SMD, -0.43; 95% CI, -0.67 to -0.19; P < .0001), and burnout (SMD, -1.01; 95% CI, -1.25 to -0.76; P <˂ .0001) scores of the participants were also decreased after resilience training. In conclusion, resilience training improved the resilience scores of nurses, which was also associated with improvements in stress, depression, anxiety, and burnout scores. However, because of the variations in training contents and measuring tools, only generalized assessments could be made.
