Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Phase angle (PhA) is suggested to reflect cell health. PhA association with inflammation and adiposity in metabolic syndrome (MetS) presence or absence, remains unclear. In the general population, PhA association with C-reactive protein (CRP) is controversial, and studies on PhA with other inflammatory markers are a literature gap. This study aims to evaluate the association of PhA with inflammatory and adiposity-related parameters in males and females with and without MetS. METHODS AND RESULTS Cross-sectional study with 597 adults (38.4 years; CI95 % 36.35-40.45) categorized into MetS (n = 126, 57.9 % female) and non-MetS (n = 471, 55.2 % female). Single-frequency bioimpedance analysis evaluated PhA. Adiposity-related (BMI, visceral adiposity index, and body fat percentage (%BF) by dual-energy x-ray emission) and serum inflammatory parameters (CRP, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, IL-1β, IL-8, IL-12p70) were evaluated. Regression analyses adjusted by age, and physical activity level, with or without %BF, evaluated the associations. In males MetS, PhA was negatively associated with %BF, IL-6, IL-10, IL-1β, and IL-12p70 (β = -0.07, p = 0.005, β = -0.03, p = 0.035, β = -0.06, p = 0.006, β = -0.03, p = 0.048, β = -0.02, p = 0.038, respectively) and positively associated with BMI (β = 0.07, p = 0.003) in non-MetS. In females MetS, PhA was negatively associated with TNF-α and IL-12p70 (β = -0.02, p = 0.048, β = -0.01, p = 0.016, respectively) and positively with IMC, %BF, TNF-α and IL-8 (β = 0.07, p < 0.001, β = 0.02, p = 0.021, β = 0.02, p = 0.011, β = 0.01, p = 0.035, respectively) in non-MetS. CONCLUSION In MetS individuals, higher PhA values are associated with lower inflammatory parameters in both sexes and %BF in males. The different behavior of PhA in females, suggests caution when interpreting PhA in this population.

Abstract
Obesity, which is characterized by excessive body fat, increases the risk of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Sarcopenia, a decline in muscle mass, is also associated with many chronic disorders and is therefore a major concern in aging populations. Body composition analysis is important in the evaluation of obesity and sarcopenia because it provides information about the distribution of body fat and muscle mass. It is also useful for monitoring nutritional status, disease severity, and the effectiveness of interventions, such as exercise, diet, and drugs, and thus helps assess overall health and longevity. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry are commonly used for this purpose. However, they have limitations, such as high cost, long measurement time, and radiation exposure. Instead, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), which was introduced several decades ago and has undergone significant technological advancements, can be used. It is easily accessible, affordable, and importantly, poses no radiation risk, making it suitable for use in hospitals, fitness centers, and even at home. Herein, we review the recent technological developments and clinical applications of BIA to provide an updated understanding of BIA technology and its strengths and limitations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases are characterized by chronic inflammation, leading to increased inflammatory markers that can cause cell damage and death. Phase angle has emerged as a marker of cellular health. It is considered a prognostic factor in various acute and chronic conditions. However, few studies have examined its association with cardiovascular disease risk measures. This study aims to investigate the relationship between phase angle, the general Framingham risk score, and the HEARTS cardiovascular risk score. METHODS This cross-sectional study included a convenience sample of adult patients of 2 primary health care services. Phase angle was measured using multifrequency bioimpedance analysis at 50 kHz. The risk of cardiovascular events was calculated using the Framingham and HEARTS risk scores. Statistical analysis included generalized linear regression models, unadjusted and adjusted according to sex and age, to determine the association between scores, risk factors, and phase angle. RESULTS The study included 164 individuals with a mean age 52.2 (SD 17.9). According to the HEARTS score, low-risk patients had higher phase angle values than those with high or very high risk [ß = -0.57 (95% CI -0.95; -0.19), P = 0.003]. Framingham scores showed a trend toward significance for higher mean phase angle values in low-risk than high-risk patients [ß = -0.43 (95% CI -0.88 to 0.02), P = 0.06]. CONCLUSION Phase angle values were lower in high and very high-risk patients than in low-risk patients, which shows that phase angle is a promising risk predictor for patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Background: FIR therapy is used in various medical settings to treat diseases associated with inflammation and edema. Unlike conventional FIR lamp therapy, this study investigated how body fluids change depending on the intensity and duration of FIR irradiation to the whole body. Method: Subjects in group A (n = 27) were exposed to FIR emitted from a loess bio-ball mat set at 40 °C for 30 min, and subjects in group B (n = 27) were exposed to FIR emitted from a loess bio-ball mat set at 30 °C for 7 h during sleep. Changes in bioimpedance parameters and fluid-related values were measured using a body fluid analyzer before and after exposure to FIR. Results: Changes in bioimpedance parameters associated with inflammatory fluids were quantitatively confirmed. In group A, there was a minimal change in fluid-related measurements. However, significant changes in bioimpedance parameters associated with inflammatory fluids were observed in group B exposure to FIR for 7 h during sleep. Conclusions: FIR emitted from loess bio-balls activates biological tissues and lymphatic circulation, gradually reducing the levels of inflammatory fluids over time.

Abstract
Despite BIA emerging as a clinical tool for assessing older adults, it remains unclear how to calculate whole-body impedance (Z), reactance (Xc), resistance (R), and phase angle (PhA) from segmental values using modern BIA devices that place electrodes on both sides of the body. This investigation aimed to compare both the whole-body and segmental device-generated phase angle (PhADG) with the phase angle calculated using summed Z, Xc, and R from the left, right, and combined sides of the body (PhACalc) and to compare bioelectric variables between sides of the body. A sample of 103 community-dwelling older adults was assessed using a 50 kHz direct segmental multifrequency BIA device. Whole-body PhACalc values were assessed for agreement with PhADG using 2.5th and 97.5th quantile nonparametric limits of agreement and Spearman's rho. Bioelectrical values between sides of the body were compared using Wilcoxon rank and Spearman's rho. A smaller mean difference was observed between PhADG and right PhACalc (-0.004°, p = 0.26) than between PhACalc on the left (0.107°, p = 0.01) and on the combined sides (0.107°, p < 0.001). The sum of Z, R, and PhACalc was significantly different (p < 0.01) between the left (559.66 ± 99.55 Ω, 556.80 ± 99.52 Ω, 5.51 ± 1.5°, respectively) and the right sides (554.60 ± 94.52 Ω, 552.02 ± 94.23 Ω, 5.41 ± 0.8°, respectively). Bilateral BIA values do not appear to be interchangeable when determining whole-body measurements. Present data suggest that using right-sided segmental values would be the most appropriate choice for calculating whole-body bioelectrical variables.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study investigates the impact of cryolipolysis on reducing localized fat and altering plasma lipid profiles in 30 overweight and obese women. Conducted at the Health Technology Laboratory of the Evangelical University of Goiás, this clinical research adhered to stringent ethical guidelines. METHODS Participants underwent three cryolipolysis sessions, with comprehensive assessments of body composition and plasma lipids performed pre- and post-intervention. RESULTS Significant findings include a reduction in abdominal fat mass by an average of 4.1 kg and a decrease in BMI by 0.7 points (p < 0.05). Notably, total cholesterol levels decreased by an average of 15.7 mg/dL, and LDL cholesterol saw a reduction of 10.2 mg/dL (p < 0.01), with no significant changes in HDL cholesterol or triglyceride levels. These results suggest that cryolipolysis, in conjunction with standardized dietary control, offers a non-invasive alternative to surgical fat reduction, potentially mitigating cardiovascular risks associated with obesity. CONCLUSIONS The study confirms the efficacy of cryolipolysis in targeted fat reduction and underscores its role in improving key cardiovascular risk factors. These findings warrant further exploration into the long-term benefits of cryolipolysis in metabolic health management and not only for aesthetic treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is a clinical condition in which sarcopenia and obesity occur together, and is associated with more poor clinical outcomes, increased mortality, and morbidity than sarcopenia. Phase angle (PhA), a parameter derived from bioimpedance analysis (BIA), provides data on cellular health, membrane integrity, and cellular function. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between SO and PhA among older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS We performed a cross-sectional study in a tertiary hospital, and all participants underwent a comprehensive geriatric assessment, the hand-grip strength test (HGST), the chair stand test (CST) for muscle strength evaluation, the 4-meter walking test, and the timed up-and-go (TUG) test for physical performance assessment. The diagnosis of SO was made according to the ESPEN/EASO criteria. The PhA was determined automatically by the BIA using resistance and reactance at 50 kHz for each participant. RESULTS A total of 322 participants were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 72.5 ±5.8, and 203 (63%) of them were female; 63 (19.6%) of them were sarcopenic obese. In multivariable logistic regression analyses, a significant relationship was found when the model was adjusted for age, female gender, MNA-sf scores, HbA1c level, and CCI scores (OR: 0.53, 95%CI: 0.29-0.98, P = 0.04). In ROC analyses, for PhA in predicting SO diagnosis, the AUC was 0.586 (95%CI: 0.505-0.678, P = 0.033). At the cut-off score 4.4, sensitivity was 57.1% and specificity was 61.4%; positive predictive value (PPV) was 26.5%; negative predictive value (NPV) was 85.5%. CONCLUSIONS The study identified a significant relationship between SO and PhA among older adults with type 2 DM. However, larger prospective studies are needed to confirm the potential utility of PhA as a biomarker for SO.

Abstract
The study of the outcomes of critically ill patients has been a hard stuff in the field of intensive care. To explore the relationship between changes of severity scores, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and outcomes of critically ill patients, we enrolled patients (n = 206) admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) in Jinling Hospital from 2018 to 2021 with records of BIA on the days 1- and 3- ICU. Collected BIA and clinical data including simplified acute physiology score II (SAPS II) and sequential organ failure assessment. According to the baseline and change of severity scores or phase angle (PA) values, the patients were divided into: G-G, baseline good status, 3rd day unchanged; G-B, baseline good status, 3rd day deteriorated; B-G, baseline bad status, 3rd day improved; and B-B, baseline bad status, 3rd day unchanged. According to PA, the mortality of group G-G was 8.6%, and it was greater than 50% in group B-B for severity scores. The new score combining PA and severity scores established. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that PA-SAPS II score was the only independent factor for 90-day mortality (P < 0.05). A linear correlation was found between mortality and PA-SAPS II score (prediction equation: Y ( % ) = 16.97 × X - 9.67 , R2 = 0.96, P < 0.05).

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori, a widely renowned bacterium, has recently gained attention owing to its potential impact on extragastric health. The emergence of research linking H. pylori infection with metabolic syndrome (MetS)-related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has raised intriguing questions about the pathogenic linkage and its translational implications for clinicians. MetS encompasses a collection of metabolic abnormalities that considerably elevate the risk of CVDs and cerebrovascular diseases. Emerging evidence supports a potential pathogenetic role of H. pylori for MetS-related disorders through mechanisms implicating chronic smoldering inflammation, insulin resistance (IR), and modulation of immune responses. One intriguing aspect of this possible connection is the role of mast cells (MCs), a subset of immune cells representing innate immune system effector cells. They play a fundamental role in innate immune responses and the modulation of adaptive immunity. Activated MCs are commonly found in patients with MetS-related CVD. Recent studies have also suggested that H. pylori infection may activate MCs, triggering the release of pro-inflammatory mediators that contribute to IR and atherosclerosis. Understanding these intricate interactions at the cellular level provides new insights into the development of therapeutic strategies targeting both H. pylori infection and MetS-related MCs activation. This review investigates the current state of research regarding the potential impact of H. pylori infection and MetS-related MCs activation on the pathophysiology of CVD, thereby opening up new avenues for related research and paving the way for innovative approaches to prevention and treatment in clinical practice

Abstract
Dishcook is a new cooking system that allows individual cooking using a dedicated induction heater. This study investigated whether Dishcook use affects the nutritional value of individuals with intellectual disabilities. This study was conducted on users receiving support from a continuous-employment office in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, in 2022. Of these participants, 18 (seven women and 11 men) who requested the use of the Dishcook were included in the analysis. The study period was from January to August 2023. The mean age was 48.72±16.24 y. A significant increase in the overall phase angles of the limbs was observed. Triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, HbA1c, and serum zinc levels improved in patients who used the Dishcook. The phase angle obtained using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis also improved, indicating the usefulness of the Dishcook in treating metabolic diseases and the possibility of individualized nutritional management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In 2019, cirrhosis accounted for 2.4% of global deaths. The projection for 2030 is an increase in this index. In recent years, hospitalization costs have escalated by 36% for compensated cirrhosis and 24% for decompensated cirrhosis. Therefore, it is necessary to identify a tool capable of predicting the mortality of these patients according to their clinical condition and consequently extending their survival time. Different studies have shown that the phase angle (PA) can be a feasible method in clinical practice, with the potential to guide assertive patient management in the therapeutic of chronic liver disease. AIM To evaluate the prognostic role of PA in cirrhotic patients over a 15-year follow-up period. METHODS Retrospective cohort study with 129 cirrhotic patients of both sexes over 18 years old. Diagnosis of cirrhosis by liver biopsy. The first year of data collection was 2007, and data regarding outcomes was collected in 2023. Data were gathered from medical records, such as esophageal varices (EV), EV bleeding, ascites, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP), encephalopathy, laboratory findings and PA. The cut-off value for the PA was 5.4°, a value described in 2012 by Fernandes et al for 129 patients evaluated in this study and the cut-off points for the Brazilian population presented in percentiles (P), as described by Mattiello et al. The mortality was assessed using the PA percentile through Kaplan-Meier curves and multivariate binary logistic regression models. RESULTS Patients were divided into two groups according to the PA 5.4th (PA > 5.4°, n = 40; PA ≤ 5.4°, n = 89) PA percentile (< P50, n = 56; ≥ P50 n = 73). The percentile classification was more accurate in identifying long-term deaths than the 5.4º PA. Patients with < P50 had a higher number of relevant complications such as ascites, SBP, liver encephalopathy and HCC. PA is strongly correlated with serum albumin (P < 0.001), International Normalized Ratio (P = 0.01), total bilirubin (P = 0.02) and direct bilirubin (P = 0.003). PA is correlated with survival time (P < 0.001) and length of stay (P = 0.02). Logistic regression analysis shows that an increase of 1° in PA enlarges the cirrhotic patient's chance of survival by 17.7%. CONCLUSION PA is a good predictor of morbidity and mortality for cirrhotic patients. The PA by percentile showed greater sensitivity in predicting mortality compared to the cut-off point of 5.4º.

Abstract
The documentation of psychological trauma is obviously a challenge to clinicians while they are diving deep into remote events related to their clients or patients. The potential role of psychological trauma in the early developmental stages, and even the existence of adverse childhood experiences, is important to prove, yet it is difficult to do so. A diverse range of methods have been applied, all of which presumably benchmark a big therapeutic step; however, these enthusiastic methods frequently do not last for long. While hypnosis supporters, Freudian and Neo-Freudian disciples can be acute enough to enhance and uncover suppressed memories, modern psychiatry relies mostly on diversely structured interviews. Functional magnetic resonance and its related subtleties might help, but the questions that remain unanswered are numerous and confusing. Connecting early experiences with long-term memory while identifying psychological trauma its importance for the individual’s growth trajectory; thus, it remains an intriguing issue.
