Abstract
Hydrazine, as a crucial raw material in the fine chemical industry, plays an indispensable role in fuel, catalyst, pesticide and drug synthesis. Due to its good water solubility and high toxicity, hydrazine can cause irreparable damage to water and soil in the environment, and it can also be released by taking certain drugs, which brings potential risks to human health. Therefore, it is vital to develop a method that can specifically detect hydrazine in the environment and in vivo. As an effective analysis and detection tool, fluorescence probe has attracted extensive attention in recent years. In this review, we summarized and classified hydrazine fluorescence probes based on various reaction mechanisms, and discussed their structures and applications in the past ten years. At least, we briefly outline the challenges and prospects in this field.

Abstract
In recent years, hydrazine hydrate has been widely used in various fields as fuel and chemical raw materials, etc. However, hydrazine hydrate is also a potential threat to living body and natural environment. The effective method is urgently needed to detect hydrazine hydrate in our living environment. Secondly, as a precious metal, palladium has attracted more and more attention because of its excellent properties in industrial manufacturing and chemical catalysis. However, its potential danger is also slowly approaching, so it is necessary to find an excellent way to detect palladium, too. Herein, a fluorescent molecule, 4,4',4'',4'''-(1,4-phenylenebis(2H-1,2,3-triazole-2,4,5-triyl)) tetrabenzoic acid (NAT), was synthesized. Firstly, NAT has very high selectivity and sensitivity for determination of Pd2+, because Pd2+ can coordinate well with carboxyl oxygen of NAT. The detection performance of Pd2+ is that the linear range is from 0.06 to 4.50 μM and the detection limit is 16.4 nM. Furthermore, the chelate (NAT-Pd2+) can continue to be used for quantitative determination of hydrazine hydrate with a linear range of 0.05-6.00 μM and the detection limit is 19.1 nM. The interaction time of NAT-Pd2+ and hydrazine hydrate is about 10 min. Of course, it also has good selectivity and strong anti-interference ability for many common metal ions, anions and amine like compounds. At last, the ability of NAT to quantitatively detect Pd2+ and hydrazine hydrate in actual samples has also been verified and the results are very satisfactory.

Abstract
In this study, hydrazine sensors were developed from a composite of electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), deposited onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The structural properties, electrochemical characterization, and surface morphologies of this hydrazine sensor were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, the proposed hydrazine sensor also demonstrates good electrochemical and analytical performance when investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and amperometry techniques under optimal parameters. Using these investigated parameters, DPV and amperometry were chosen as techniques for hydrazine measurements and showed a linear range of concentration in the range of 0.2-100 μM. The obtained limits of detection and limits of quantitation for hydrazine measurements were 0.01 and 0.03 μM, respectively. In addition, the proposed sensor demonstrated good reproducibility and stability in hydrazine measurements in eight consecutive days. This fabricated hydrazine sensor also exhibited good selectivity against interference from Mg2+, K+, Zn2+, Fe2+, Na+, NO2 -, CH3COO-, SO4 2-, Cl-, ascorbic acid, chlorophenol, and triclosan and combined interferences, as well as it depicted %RSD values of less than 5%. In conclusion, this proposed sensor based on GCE modified with ErGO/PEDOT:PSS displays exceptional electrochemical performance for use in hydrazine measurements and have the potential to be employed in practical applications.

Abstract
Chymotrypsin, an extensively known proteolytic enzyme, plays a substantial role in maintaining physiological functions, including protein digestion, immune response, and tissue repair. To date, intense attention has been focused on the invention of efficient and sensitive chemical tools for chymotrypsin activity measurement. Among them, the "nonpeptide"-based chymotrypsin probe design strategy utilizing the esterase activity of chymotrypsin has been well-developed due to its low cost and high atom-economy feature. However, the ester-bond-based nature of these probes make them possibly vulnerable to esterases and active chemicals. These defects strictly restricted the application of the previously reported probes, especially for imaging in living systems. Therefore, to acquire fluorogenic probes with sufficient stability and specificity for chymotrypsin sensing in a complicated biological environment, a more stable skeleton for nonpeptide-based chymotrypsin probe construction is urgently needed. Herein, a novel nonpeptide-based fluorogenic probe for specific chymotrypsin activity sensing was designed and synthesized by the substitution of an ester-based linker with a heptafluorobutylamide moiety. The acquired probe, named TMBIHF, showed high selectivity toward various enzymes and reactive chemicals, while it retained high sensitivity and catalytic efficiency toward chymotrypsin. Moreover, TMBIHF was successfully applied for monitoring chymotrypsin activity and pancreas development in live zebrafish, specific sensing of exogenous and endogenous chymotrypsin in nude mice, and visualizing chymotrypsin-like activity-dependent cellular apoptosis, thus providing an alternative and reliable way for chymotrypsin-targeted biosensor or prodrug construction.

Abstract
A novel near-infrared fluorescent probe CyOE based on hemicyanine dye containing acetyl as a recognition site is reported. The probe CyOE shows high selectivity and sensitivity (LOD = 82 nM, 2.58 ppb), as well as good water solubility and quantitative detectability of hydrazine in the concentration range of 0-75 μM (R2 = 0.993). Moreover, CyOE has a significant increase in fluorescence at 735 nm with the addition of N2H4, which provides a rapid, colorimetric and gas-phase detection method for N2H4 in both aqueous solution and real water samples. In addition, CyOE is successfully utilized to visualize hydrazine in cells with low cytotoxicity and high cell permeability.

Abstract
Hydrazine is a widely used but highly toxic chemical reagent, and the development of a fluorescent probe for hydrazine detection is very meaningful. In this study, a novel coumarin-derived fluorescent probe containing a 1,4-enedione moiety for hydrazine detection was developed. The recognition of hydrazine with the probe brings about obvious fluorescence enhancement over other environmentally relevant ions and amine-containing species. The limit of detection for hydrazine is 2.7×10-8 M in aqueous solution. The fluorescence enhancement was ascribed to the cyclization reaction of the 1,4-enedione moiety of the probe and hydrazine which form a six-membered pyridazine ring and intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism. The mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis and theoretical calculations confirmed the recognition produced. The probe can be used to determine trace hydrazine in real water samples. More importantly, the probe also showed good potential in detecting hydrazine by imaging of living HeLa cells.

Abstract
With the rapid development of various industries, cyanide (CN-) and hypochlorite (ClO-) have a tremendously adverse effect on the health of humans and animals. In this study, a fluorescent probe HHTB based on a benzaldehyde-indole fused chromophore was designed to detect cyanide and hypochlorite simultaneously. The synthesized probe was found to have strong anti-interference ability. In addition, the designed probe could respond rapidly to ClO- in just 80 s, while the color changed visibly from red to colorless. Moreover, the response time to CN- was longer (about 160 s), with the apparent color change from red to light red. The ratiometric and colorimetric absorbance variation of HHTB was due to the nucleophilic attack of CN- on the indole C[double bond, length as m-dash]N functional group and the strong oxidization of ClO- which destroyed the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bonds and the conjugation systems. Furthermore, the probe HHTB responding to ClO- and CN- presented high sensitivity, as the calculated detection limits were 1.18 nM and 1.40 nM, respectively. The probe was also found to have low biological toxicity and was used in living cells successfully. Therefore, it has good application prospect in the field of cell imaging and biomedicine. The binding mechanism of HHTB-CN and the reaction mechanism of HHTB and ClO- were further elucidated by a series of experiments.

Abstract
Hypochlorite (ClO-) is an important reactive oxygen species (ROS) in organisms. In this work, a fluorescent probe DBTM based on triphenylamine was synthesized successfully and characterized by spectral methods. The designed probe can rapidly respond to ClO- in just 1 min, followed by the apparent color change from red to yellow. The colorimetric and ratiometric absorbance change of DBTM was attributed to the strong oxidation of ClO-, which broke the connected double bonds and destroyed the conjugate system. The probe DBTM showed an excellent selectivity towards ClO- in comparison with other ROS probes. Besides, the DBTM probe exhibited a highly sensitive response to ClO-, with the detection limits calculated to be 3.3 nM. The probe can be applied in the form of cotton swabs and test strips that could detect ClO- easily, suggesting its potential use as imaging agents for realistic ClO- detection. In particular, DBTM exhibited very low background fluorescence in living cells and was able to detect the minor variation of endogenous hypochlorite in L929 cells. Based on these advantages, the probe DBTM could be a good candidate for detecting ClO- in biological systems.

Abstract
Hypochlorite (ClO- ), as one of the active oxygen species (ROS), plays an essential role in the cellular defence system and organism immunity. In this paper, we successfully synthesized a new 'turn-on' fluorescent probe BMF based on benzimidazole and characterized it by spectroscopic methods. The designed probe can quickly respond to ClO- with the obvious colour change from pink to colourless. Notably, the probe BMF exhibited almost no fluorescence, but showed strong fluorescence after adding ClO- , including an excellent fluorescence turn-on effect. The fluorescence turn-on phenomenon of BMF was attributed to the strong oxidation of ClO- , which severed the connecting double bond and disrupted the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) system, plus light-induced electron transfer effect between the fluorophore and the recognition group was discontinued. In addition, the cytotoxicity assay showed that the probe had lower cytotoxicity. Based on these advantages, we demonstrated that probe BMF might be a good candidate for detecting ClO- in biological systems.

Abstract
Developing a specific and sensitive method for endogenous hydrazine detection in living systems is valuable to understand its various pathological events. In this work, two novel fluorescent chemosensors (C1, C3) based on triphenylamine Schiff-base derivative and reference dyes (C2, C4) were prepared in relatively high yield (more than 72% yield). The aggregation induced emission (AIE) properties of sensors were investigated through UV-Visible, dynamic light scattering, X-ray diffraction, fluorescence spectrophotometric analyses as well as scanning electron microscope images (SEM). The results indicated that probes C1 and C3 exhibited strong AIE property in DMF/H2O (1:1, v/v) mixture system with brilliant yellow fluorescence emission (560 nm) observed under 365 nm UV lamp. The experiments of sensing indicated that probes C1 and C3 possessed the sequentially detecting abilities for hydrazine with high sensitivity, specificity as well as an extremely low detection limit (55.1 nM), which was due to blocking of AIE process of probes C1 and C3 by special chemical reaction (-CHN- moiety transformed into -CH2-NH- group) after hydrazine addition, resulting in the increase in water solubility and a weak emission in aqueous media. Furthermore, 1H NMR, SEM and fluorescence titration experiment was also conducted to confirm the sensing mechanism. For biological application, probes C1 and C3 presented a good bio-imaging performance and showed the similar fluorescence quenching after adding hydrazine. Therefore, the probes are suitable for the fluorescence imaging of exogenous hydrazine in HeLa cells.

Abstract
Hydrazine is extremely harmful to the human body. The leakage of hydrazine is liable to cause potential safety hazards. Here, we reported a new fluorescence probe based on the tandem reaction. The hydrazine-triggered hydrazinolysis-cyclization resulted in the formation of the iminocoumarin. The fluorescence intensity at 522 nm of the probe increased after the reaction with hydrazine. There was a linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and the concentration of hydrazine (0.14-120.00 μM). The LOD of the probe to N2H4 was 1.36 ppb. Notably, the probe could detect hydrazine in BT474 cells and tap water.

Abstract
As a strong reductant and highly active alkali, hydrazine (N2H4) has been widely used in chemical industry, pharmaceutical manufacturing and agricultural production. However, its high acute toxicity poses a threat to ecosystem and human health. In the present study, a ratiometric fluorescent probe for the detection of N2H4 was designed, utilizing dicyanoisophorone as the fluorescent group and 4-bromobutyryl moiety as the recognition site. 4-(2-(3-(dicyanomethylene)-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-1-enyl) phenyl 4-brobutanoate (DDPB) was readily synthesized and could specially sense N2H4 via an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) pathway. The cyclization cleavage reaction of N2H4 with a 4-bromobutyryl group released phenolic hydroxyl group and reversed the ICT process between hydroxy group and fluorophore, turning on the fluorescence in the DDPB-N2H4 complexes. DDPB exhibits a low cytotoxicity, reasonable cell permeability, a large Stokes shift (186 nm) and a low detection limit (86.3 nM). The quantitative determination of environmental water systems and the visualization fluorescence of DDPB test strips provides a strong evidence for the applications of DDPB. In addition, DDPB is suitable for the fluorescence imaging of exogenous N2H4 in HeLa cells and zebrafish.

Abstract
Hydrazine is an important catalyst and chemical raw material. But it is highly toxic and potentially carcinogenic. We designed a new hydrazine probe based on a synergistic effect by introducing acetate and phthalimide into 2-phenyl-benzimidazole (PBI). Comparative experiments proved that "the dual position interaction" had a "synergistic effect" on fluorescence enhancement. The fluorescence enhancement caused by the probe (15.0 fold) is much larger than the sum of the fluorescence enhancement of the two monomer compounds (2.6 and 1.4 folds, respectively). A theoretical calculation showed an inhibition of the PET process and a recovery of the ICT process led to a fluorescence enhancement. The probe was specific to hydrazine and showed a linear response to it in the concentrations range of 0.2 - 200 μM with a LOD of 0.062 μM (1.99 ppb). Moreover, the probe could detect hydrazine in tap water; the recovery of hydrazine from the tap water was between 98.86 - 103.28%.

Abstract
Developing fluorescent probes for selective determination of the toxic and carcinogenic hydrazine are pretty significant. Herein, a rhodamine dye coupled to naphthalene was selected as a near-infrared fluorophore and acetyl group as a trigger unit for hydrazine sensing with a Stokes shifts of 62 nm. The probe showed about 77-fold NIR fluorescence enhancement in the presence of hydrazine. In addition, the detection limit was as low as 3.4 ppb, and the fluorescence intensity at 654 nm showed a satisfactory linearity with the concentration range of hydrazine from 0 to 120 μM. More importantly, the practical utility of probe has been successfully proved through the fluorescence bioimaging of hydrazine in living cells with low cytotoxicity and quantitative N2H4 detection in environmental water samples.

Abstract
An aggregation-induced emission (AIE)- and intramolecular charge transfer (ICT)-based probe 1 (7‑hydroxy‑3‑(3‑methyl‑isoxazol‑5‑yl)‑chromen‑2‑one) that is highly selective for N2H4 has been synthesized, exhibiting a 'turn-on' response toward N2H4 in CH3CN/H2O solution. The detection limit of the probe was 2.90 ppb, which was evidently lower than the threshold limit value (10 ppb) recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency. Notably, the sensor could be used for the detection of N2H4 in living cells.

Abstract
A new ratiometric fluorescent probe (1) was developed for the detection of hydrazine. The probe was obtained by incorporating the recognition moiety of acetyl group onto a coumarin fluorophore. Probe 1 displayed a distinct cyan emission in a 100% aqueous phosphate buffer solution. In the presence of hydrazine, probe 1 undergoes a hydrazinolysis process to release the coumarin fluorophore, which exhibited significant hypsochromic shifts in both absorption and emission spectra, and thus achieving a ratiometric response. This ratiometric probe is highly selective and sensitive towards hydrazine detection. The limit of detection (LOD) was calculated to be 34 nM. Moreover, cellular toxicity and imaging experiments suggested that probe 1 is can be used to monitor hydrazine in live cells.

Abstract
Hydrazine is a pollutant with high hydrogen content, offering tremendous possibilities in a direct hydrazine fuel cell (DHFC) as it can be converted into electricity via benign end products. Due to the inner sphere nature of half-cell chemistries, hydrazine cross over triggers parasitic chemistry at the Pt-based air cathode of a state-of-the-art DHFC, overly complicating the already sluggish electrode kinetics at the positive electrode. Here, we illustrate that by altering the interfacial chemistry of the catholyte from inner sphere to outer sphere, the parasitic chemistry can be dissociated from the redox chemistry of the electron acceptor and the hybrid fuel cell can be driven by simple carbon-based cathodes. The reversible nature of an outer sphere catholyte leads to a hybrid fuel cell redox flow battery with performance metrics ∼4 times higher than a Pt-based DHFC-air configuration.

Abstract
A new highly selective and visible colorimetric fluorescent probe (probe 1) was developed to detect hydrazine (N2H4) concentration in real water samples. As different concentrations of N2H4 were added, the color of the probe solution was graded gradually from colorless to pink, which could be observed by the naked eye under UV light at 365 nm. Our research indicates that probe 1 offers a certain practical significance for use as a visible detection agent to detect N2H4 efficiently by distinct color response. Furthermore, our work showed that probe 1 can be successfully applied to detect N2H4 concentrations in real water samples.
