Abstract
β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), as an important pseudo-stationary phase (PSP) in capillary electrophoresis (CE), frequently confronts challenges stemming from its limited water solubility, particularly when high concentrations are required for resolving complex analytes. Traditionally, researchers often resort to the use of (toxic) organic solvents to enhance the solubility of β-CD, establishing non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) for specific separations. However, such practices are hazardous to health and run counter to the principles of green analytical chemistry. In this study, we demonstrate a deep eutectic solvent (DES), Proline:Urea (PU), as a promising alternative to conventional organic solvents for β-CD-based CE separations. The DES exhibits a solubility of up to 30% for β-CD, a significant improvement compared to the 1.8% solubility in the aqueous phase. Utilizing this DES-type separation medium, we achieved simultaneous baseline separation of a complex analyte composed of eight structurally similar naphthoic acid derivatives. Furthermore, we conducted a systematic comparison of β-CD's performance in aqueous CE buffers, organic solvents, and DESs, highlighting the superiority of this novel and environmentally friendly CE separation medium.

Abstract
In this study, the one-step switchable hydrophilic solvent (SHS)-based effervescence tablet microextraction (ETME) was coupled with smartphone digital image colorimetry (SDIC) for the field detection of nickel ion (Ni2+) for the first time. Both extractant and CO2 were generated in situ when the novel SHS-based effervescence tablet was placed in the sample solution. The complexant 1-(2-pyridinylazo)-2-naphthaleno (PAN) dissolved from the effervescence tablet to form a stable complex with Ni2+, and the extractant was uniformly dispersed in the sample solution under the action of CO2 and fully in contact with Ni-PAN, which enabled efficient extraction of Ni2+. The color changes of the extraction phase were captured by smartphone, then a quantitative relationship between the concentrations of Ni2+ and color intensity of images captured using a smartphone was established by customized applet WASDIC, which realized quantitative analysis of Ni2+ in different samples. Under optimal conditions, the enhancement factor (EF) of the proposed method was 65.1, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 1.69 and 5.64 μg L-1, respectively. The developed method was successfully applied to the detection of trace Ni2+ in the environmental samples and natural medicines. And the applicability of the method for use in field analysis was validated.

Abstract
This review summarizes recent advances of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in sample preparation and determination methods of pesticides in food, environmental, and biological matrices since 2019. Emphasis is placed on new DES categories and emerging microextraction techniques. The former incorporate hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents, magnetic deep eutectic solvents, and responsive switchable deep eutectic solvents, while the latter mainly include dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction, liquid-liquid microextraction based on in-situ formation/decomposition of DESs, single drop microextraction, hollow fiber-liquid phase microextraction, and solid-phase microextraction. The principles, applications, advantages, and limitations of these microextraction techniques are presented. Besides, the use of DESs in chromatographic separation, electrochemical biosensors, fluorescent sensors, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy are discussed. This review is expected to provide a valuable reference for extracting and detecting pesticides or other hazardous contaminants in the future.

Abstract
Neonicotinoid insecticides (NEOs) are a new class of neurotoxic pesticides primarily used for pest control on fruits and vegetables, cereals, and other crops after organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs), carbamate pesticides (CBPs), and pyrethroid pesticides. However, chronic abuse and illegal use have led to the contamination of food and water sources as well as damage to ecological and environmental systems. Long-term exposure to NEOs may pose potential risks to animals (especially bees) and even human health. Consequently, it is necessary to develop effective, robust, and rapid methods for NEOs detection. Specific recognition-based chemical sensing has been regarded as one of the most promising detection tools for NEOs due to their excellent selectivity, sensitivity, and robust interference resistance. In this review, we introduce the novel recognition strategies-enabled chemical sensing in food neonicotinoids detection in the past years (2017-2023). The properties and advantages of molecular imprinting recognition (MIR), host-guest recognition (HGR), electron-catalyzed recognition (ECR), immune recognition (IR), aptamer recognition (AR), and enzyme inhibition recognition (EIR) in the development of NEOs sensing platforms are discussed in detail. Recent applications of chemical sensing platforms in various food products, including fruits and vegetables, cereals, teas, honey, aquatic products, and others are highlighted. In addition, the future trends of applying chemical sensing with specific recognition strategies for NEOs analysis are discussed.
