Abstract
This study has developed, ultrasound-assisted, a novel food packaging film (U-zein/SiO2) for food packaging applications. Incorporating an optimal concentration of 18 mg/mL of nano-SiO2 and subjecting the film to 10 min of ultrasonic treatment resulted in a remarkable increase of 32.89% in elongation at break and 55.86% in tensile strength. In addition, the incorporation of nano-SiO2 effectively reduces the water content and solubility of the composite film, resulting in improved water/oxygen barrier properties. These physiochemical properties were further improved with the application of ultrasound. The analysis of attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electronic microscope demonstrated that the ultrasound treatment improved the hydrogen bonds, improved thermal stability, molecular arrangement, structure stability, and intermolecular compatibility of the composite film, resulting in enhanced physio-mechanical properties of the film. In addition, the ultrasound treatment led to a smoother film surface and reduced the pores on the film's cross-section. Moreover, the U-zein/SiO2 film exhibited excellent mechanical and water/oxygen barrier properties in different storage environments over a period of 30 days. These results offer sound theoretical support for the practical application of the prepared preservative film.

Abstract
In this work, SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were modified with bovine serum albumin (BSA) under ultrasound irradiations as a green and fast route to achieve their good dispersion. Subsequently, different weight percentages of the modified NPs (3, 6, and 9wt%) were incorporated in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) as the matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis of the SiO2-BSA NPs indicated that 12wt% of the modifier was loaded on the surface of SiO2 NPs. Encapsulation of the SiO2-BSA resulted in a meaningful improvement in the optical, mechanical and thermal characteristics of the prepared PVC nanocomposites (NCs). X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns for the PVC/SiO2-BSA NCs showed a crystalline behavior for the NC with 6wt% of the SiO2-BSA originated from the phosphate buffer on the NPs. Water contact angle of the PVC/SiO2-BSA NCs showed that the hydrophilicity enhanced with increasing of the NPs contents.

Abstract
In this study, laponite (LAP) nanodisks and polyethylenimine (PEI) were used to build a hybrid theranostic nanoplatform for targeted computed tomography (CT) imaging and chemotherapy of cancer cells overexpressing CD44 receptors. First, amphiphilic copolymer poly(lactic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA-PEG-COOH) were assembled on the surface of LAP nanodisks via hydrophobic interaction, and then PEI were conjugated by the formation of amide groups via1-ethyl-3-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) carbodiimide (EDC) coupling chemistry. The developed LAP-PLA-PEG-PEI nanoparticles were used as templates for the embedding of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs), followed by modification with hyaluronic acid (HA) as a targeting ligand for cancer cells overexpressing CD44 receptors. Finally, anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded. The formed LAP-PLA-PEG-PEI-(Au0)50-HA/DOX nanocomplexes display good stability, a high drug loading efficiency as 91.0 ± 1.8%, and sustained drug release profile with a pH-sensitive manner. In vitro cell viability assay, flow cytometric analysis, and laser scanning confocal microscopy observation demonstrate that the formed nanocomplexes can specifically deliver and inhibit cancer cells overexpressing CD44 receptors. In vivo experiments illustrate that LAP-PLA-PEG-PEI-(Au0)50-HA/DOX nanocomplexes can not only significantly inhibit the growth of tumors and decrease the side-effect of DOX, but also be used as a targeted contrast agent for CT imaging of tumors. Therefore, the developed LAP-PLA-PEG-PEI-(Au0)50-HA/DOX nanocomplexes can be used as a promising theranostic platform for targeted imaging and chemotherapy of CD44-overexpressed tumors.
