Abstract
Cervical cancer, primarily caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, poses a significant global health challenge. Due to higher levels of poverty and health inequities, Indigenous women worldwide are more vulnerable to cervical cancer than their non-Indigenous counterparts. However, despite constituting nearly 10% of the population in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), the true extent of the burden of cervical cancer among Indigenous people in this region remains largely unknown. This article reviews the available information on cervical cancer incidence and mortality, as well as HPV infection prevalence, among Indigenous women in LAC. The limited existing data suggest that Indigenous women in this region face a heightened risk of cervical cancer incidence and mortality compared to non-Indigenous women. Nevertheless, a substantial knowledge gap persists that must be addressed to comprehensively assess the burden of cervical cancer among Indigenous populations, especially through enhancing cancer surveillance across LAC countries. Numerous structural, social and cultural barriers hindering Indigenous women's access to HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening worldwide have been identified and are reviewed in this article. The discussion highlights the critical role of culturally sensitive education, community engagement, and empowerment strategies in overcoming those barriers. Drawing insights from the success of targeted strategies in certain high-income countries, the present article advocates for research, policies and healthcare interventions tailored to the unique context of LAC countries.

Abstract
Background Australia has made significant progress towards universal access to primary health care (PHC) services. However, disparities in the utilisation of health services and health status remain challenges in achieving the global target of universal health coverage (UHC). This scoping review aimed at synthesizing the drivers of PHC services towards UHC in Australia. Methods We conducted a scoping review of the literature published from 1 January 2010 to 30 July 2021 in three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. Search terms were identified under four themes: health services, Australia, UHC, and successes or challenges. Data were analysed using an inductive thematic analysis approach. Drivers (facilitators and barriers) of PHC services were explained by employing a multilevel framework that included the proximal level (at the level of users and providers), intermediate level (organisational and community level), and distal level (macrosystem or distal/structural level). Results A total of 114 studies were included in the review. Australia has recorded several successes in increased utilisation of PHC services, resulting in an overall improvement in health status. However, challenges remain in poor access and high unmet needs of health services among disadvantaged/priority populations (e.g., immigrants and Indigenous groups), those with chronic illnesses (multiple chronic conditions), and those living in rural and remote areas. Several drivers have contributed in access to and utilisation of health services (especially among priority populations)operating at multilevel health systems, such as proximal level drivers (health literacy, users' language, access to health facilities, providers' behaviours, quantity and competency of health workforce, and service provision at health facilities), intermediate drivers (community engagement, health programs, planning and monitoring, and funding), and distal (structural) drivers (socioeconomic disparities and discriminations). Conclusion Australia has had several successes towards UHC. However, access to health services poses significant challenges among specific priority populations and rural residents. To achieve universality and equity of health services, health system efforts (supply- and demand-side policies, programs and service interventions) are required to be implemented in multilevel health systems. Implementation of targeted health policy and program approaches are needed to provide comprehensive PHC and address the effects of structural disparities.

Ability of epidemiological studies to monitor HPV post-vaccination dynamics: a simulation study. Epidemiol Infect 2023; 151:e31. Abstract
Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are caused by a broad diversity of genotypes. As available vaccines target a subgroup of these genotypes, monitoring transmission dynamics of nonvaccine genotypes is essential. After reviewing the epidemiological literature on study designs aiming to monitor those dynamics, we evaluated their abilities to detect HPV-prevalence changes following vaccine introduction. We developed an agent-based model to simulate HPV transmission in a heterosexual population under various scenarios of vaccine coverage and genotypic interaction, and reproduced two study designs: post-vs.-prevaccine and vaccinated-vs.-unvaccinated comparisons. We calculated the total sample size required to detect statistically significant prevalence differences at the 5% significance level and 80% power. Although a decrease in vaccine-genotype prevalence was detectable as early as 1 year after vaccine introduction, simulations indicated that the indirect impact on nonvaccine-genotype prevalence (a decrease under synergistic interaction or an increase under competitive interaction) would only be measurable after >10 years whatever the vaccine coverage. Sample sizes required for nonvaccine genotypes were >5 times greater than for vaccine genotypes and tended to be smaller in the post-vs.-prevaccine than in the vaccinated-vs.-unvaccinated design. These results highlight that previously published epidemiological studies were not powerful enough to efficiently detect changes in nonvaccine-genotype prevalence.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which poses significant disease burden, is decreasing following implementation of vaccination programs. Synthesized evidence on HPV vaccine real-world benefit was published in 2016. However, long-term impact of vaccination, and how vaccination programs influence infection rates and disease outcomes, requires further examination. AREAS COVERED We systematically reviewed observational studies on HPV vaccination within MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar from 2016 to 2020, involving 14 years of follow-up data. We identified 138 peer-reviewed publications reporting HPV vaccine impact or effectiveness. Outcomes of interest included rates of infection at different anatomical sites and incidence of several HPV-related disease endpoints. EXPERT OPINION The expansion of HPV vaccination programs worldwide has led to a reduction in genital infection and significant decreases in incidence of HPV-related disease outcomes. Therefore, the WHO has set goals for the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health concern. To track progress toward this requires an understanding of the effectiveness of different vaccination initiatives. However, the impact on males, and potential benefit of gender-neutral vaccination programs have not been fully explored. To present an accurate commentary on the current outlook of vaccination and to help shape policy therefore requires a systematic review of available data.

Abstract
AIM This ecological study aimed to examine the geographic patterns in Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates among boys and girls aged 15 years across locations in Australia, in addition to assessing contextual area-level factors that may explain the variations in HPV vaccination coverage. METHODS Aggregate HPV vaccination data for Australian girls and boys aged 15 years from 2015 to 16 was obtained from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare for each Statistical Area level 4 (SA4). A Gradient Boosting Machine learning model was applied to assess the predictors' importance for the study outcomes. Geographically weighted regression (GWR) models were run to assess whether substantially different relationships between predictors and outcomes occur at different locations in space. RESULTS Completed HPV vaccination across the 88 SA4 regions ranged from 57.6% to 90.6% among girls, and from 53.6% to 85.5% among boys. The 2016 SEIFA Index of Economic Resources was the variable with the highest contribution to the predictions of both girls' and boys' HPV vaccination rates. Selected predictors explained 45% and 72% of the geographic variance in vaccination rates among boys and girls, respectively. Normalised coefficients for both GWR models showed a high variation in the associations between predictors and HPV vaccination rates across regions. CONCLUSION Socioeconomic and education factors were important predictors for HPV vaccination rates among Australian boys and girls aged 15 years, although no variable presented a uniform effect on HPV vaccination across SA4 regions. Important spatial heterogeneity in the effect of predictors was identified across the study area.

Abstract
Purpose Knowledge of the prevalence of HPV infection among adolescent and early adult girls is essential to determining the best age for the introduction of HPV vaccine, monitoring vaccine efficacy, and giving insight into determinants of persistent high-risk HPV infection, a necessary cause of cervical cancer. Yet, there have been limited studies of HPV infection among adolescent and early adult girls in low-and-middle-income countries. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we randomly selected 205 girls, aged 9–20 years, from 10 schools in central Nigeria. We obtained informed consent and assent, collected data, and trained participants to self-collect vaginal samples using swab stick. We genotyped HPV using SPF10-DEIA/LiPA25 and analyzed data using Stata 14®. Results The mean (SD) age of the girls was 14.9 (2.3) years. We found HPV in 13.2% of vaginal swabs. The earliest age at which anyHPV and hrHPV infections were detected was 10 and 12 years respectively. The prevalence of any HPV peaked at 16 and 17 years, hrHPV at 16 years, lrHPV at 17 and 18 years and multiple hrHPV 18 years of age. The prevalence of hrHPV infection was 1.5% among the 9–12 years age group, 2.9% among 13–16 years and 3.4% among 17–20 years old. The commonest hrHPV types detected were 52 (3.9%), 18 (1.5%) and 51 (2.4%). The most common lrHPV types was 6 (2.9%). Conclusion The prevalence of HPV infection in these urbanized young girls in Nigeria is high and commences after 9 years of age. HPV vaccination in this population should start at 9 years of age or younger to prevent the establishment of persistent HPV infection. The prevalence of HPV was 13.2% among adolescent girls in Jos, North-Central Nigeria. The earliest age at vaginal HPV infection was 11 years of age. The most predominant hrHPV type in vaginal swab was HPV 52. These findings point to the need for introduction of HPV vaccine starting at 9 years of age among girls in Nigeria to give maximum protection.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vaccine effectiveness and impact studies are typically observational, generating evidence after vaccine launch in a real-world setting. For human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination studies, the variety of data sources and methods used is pronounced. Careful selection of study design, data capture and analytical methods can mitigate potential bias in such studies. AREAS COVERED We systematically reviewed the different study designs, methods, and data sources in published evidence (1/2007-3/2020), which assessed the quadrivalent HPV vaccine effectiveness and impact on cervical/cervicovaginal, anal, and oral HPV infections, anogenital warts, lesions in anus, cervix, oropharynx, penis, vagina or vulva, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. EXPERT OPINION The rapid growth in access to real-world data allows global monitoring of effects of different public health interventions, including HPV vaccination programs. But the use of data which are not collected or organized to support research also underscore a need to develop robust methodology that provides insight of vaccine effects and consequences of different health policy decisions. To achieve the WHO elimination goal, we foresee a growing need to evaluate HPV vaccination programs globally. A critical appraisal summary of methodology used will provide timely guidance to researchers who want to initiate research activities in various settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is associated with high mortality. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a significant risk factor for OPSCC. Utilities are fundamental values representing the strength of individuals' preferences for specific health-related outcomes. Our study aim was to work in partnership with Indigenous communities in South Australia to develop, pilot test and estimate utility scores for health states related to HPV, HPV vaccination, precursor OPSCC and its treatment, and early stage OPSCC among Indigenous Australians. METHODS Development and pilot testing of hypothetical HPV and OPSCC health states, specifically through the lens of being Indigenous Australian, was conducted with an Indigenous Reference Group. Six health states were decided upon, with utility scores calculated using a two-stage standard gamble approach among a large convenience sample of Indigenous Australians aged 18+ years residing in South Australia. The rank, percentage of perfect health and utility score of each health state was summarised using means, and medians at 12 months and lifetime duration. Potential differences by age, sex and residential location were assessed using the Wilcox Rank Sum test. RESULTS Data from 1011 participants was obtained. The mean utility scores decreased with increasing severity of health states, ranging from 0.91-0.92 in 'screened, cytology normal, HPV vaccination' and 'screened, HPV positive, endoscopy normal', to less than 0.90 (ranging from 0.87-0.88) in lower grade conditions (oral warts and oral intraepithelial neoplasia) and less than 0.80 (ranging from 0.75-0.79) in 'early stage throat cancer'. Higher utility scores were observed for 'screened, cytology normal and HPV vaccination' among younger participants (18-40 years), for 'early stage invasive throat cancer' among females, and for 'oral intraepithelial neoplasia' and 'early stage invasive throat cancer' among metropolitan-dwelling participants. CONCLUSION Among a large sample of Indigenous Australians, utility for oral HPV infection and OPSCC decreased with severity of health states. Older participants, as well as males and those residing in non-metropolitan locations, had decreased utility for high-grade cytology and early invasive cancer states. Our findings are an important contribution to cost-utility and disease prevention strategies that seek to inform policies around reducing HPV infection and OPSCC among all Australians.

Abstract
Introduction: HPV vaccines were administered in mainland China from July 2017 at a gradual rate. We aimed to assess the vaccination rate and vaccination influencing factors among college students in mainland China.Methods: From October to December 2018, we conducted face-to-face questionnaires including 5 sections and 22 questions to collect demographic information, HPV infection and transmission knowledge, HPV vaccine knowledge and attitudes among college students in Guangzhou, China. HPV vaccine vaccination status and cervical screening behaviors were self-reported. Knowledge and attitudes differences between the vaccinate and non-vaccinate groups were analyzed using univariable logistic regression. Vaccination-related influencing factors were estimated using multivariable logistic regression.Results: 5307 of 5414 valid questionnaires were collected. The self-reported cervical screening rate and HPV vaccine coverage were 11.82% (9.03%-14.61%) and 3.09% (2.62%-3.56%). In total, 55.57% of the participants were hesitant about vaccination. Urban residence (OR = 2.1, 95%CI: 1.4-3.3), high monthly consumption (OR = 2.6, 95%CI: 1.9-3.6), awareness of vaccination adaptive population (OR = 3.1, 95%CI: 1.9-5.0), awareness of infection-related risk factors (OR = 2.5, 95%CI: 1.1-5.7), and awareness of HPV vaccine effectiveness (OR = 3.2, 95%CI: 2.0-5.2) were significant in multivariable logistic regression.Conclusion: HPV vaccine coverage is quite low among college students in China Guangzhou. Economic affordability, awareness of HPV infection, and belief in the effectiveness of HPV vaccine are influencing factors for vaccination. In the future, establishing a national financial subsidy and strengthening health education is needed to increase the vaccination rate in China.

Abstract
PURPOSE Our aims are to: (1) estimate prevalence, incidence, clearance and persistence of oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among Indigenous Australians; (2) identify risk factors associated with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC)-related HPV types (HPV 16 or 18); (3) develop HPV-related health state valuations and; (4) determine the impact on OPSCC and cervical cancers, and the cost-effectiveness of extending publicly-funded HPV vaccination among Indigenous Australians. PARTICIPANTS Participants were recruited from February 2018 to January 2019. Twelve-month follow-up occurred from March 2019 to March 2020. Participants provided socio-demographic characteristics, health-related behaviours including tobacco and alcohol use and sexual history. Health state preferences in regard to HPV vaccination, knowledge regarding HPV infection, OPSCC and cervical cancer were collected using a two-stage standard gamble approach. Participants provided saliva samples and DNA for microbial genotyping was extracted. FINDINGS TO DATE Of the 910 participants who were positive for β-globin at baseline, 35% had any oral HPV infection. The most prevalent HPV types were 13 or 32 (Heck's disease; 23%). The second most prevalent types were associated with OPSCC (HPV 16 or 18; 3.3%). Of the 645 participants who were positive for β-globin at 12-month follow-up, 43% had any HPV infection. Of these, 33% were HPV types 13 or 32 and 2.5% were HPV 16 or 18. Some 588 participants had β-globin positive oral samples at baseline and 12-month follow-up. The prevalence of any oral HPV infection increased from 34% at baseline to 44% at 12-month follow-up; due to increases in HPV types 13 or 32 (20% at baseline and 34% at 12-month follow-up). FUTURE PLANS Further funding will be sought to continue follow-up of this cohort, and to include (after a full medical history) a thorough clinical examination of the external head and neck; a complete oral examination and examination of the oropharynx. Blood tests for early stage OPSCC will also be undertaken.

Abstract
In order to achieve the global elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem, close surveillance of progress in public health and clinical activities and outcomes across the three pillars of vaccination, screening and treatment will be required. Surveillance should ideally occur within an integrated system that is planned, funded, and regularly evaluated to ensure it is providing timely, accurate and relevant feedback for action. In this paper, we conceptualise the main public health surveillance objectives as process and outcome measures in each of the three pillars. Process measures include coverage/participation measures for vaccination, screening and treatment alongside the ongoing assessment of the quality and reach of these programs and activities. Outcome measures related to the natural history of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection include HPV infection prevalence, precursor cervical lesions and cervical cancers (including stage at diagnosis, cancer incidence and mortality). These outcome measures can be used for monitoring the effectiveness of the three core activities in the short, medium and long term to assess whether these interventions are effectively reducing their occurrence. We discuss possible methods for the surveillance of these measures in the context of country capacity, drawing from examples in Australia, the USA and in low and middle income countries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Despite Australia's National Cervical Screening Program, Indigenous women have a disproportionately high burden of cervical cancer. We describe temporal and area-level patterns in prevalence of histologically conformed high-grade cervical abnormalities (hHGA) among cytologically screened women by Indigenous status. METHODS This was a population-based study of 2,132,925 women, aged 20-69, who underwent cervical screening between 2008 and 2017, in Queensland, Australia. Of these, 47,136 were identified as Indigenous from linked hospital records. Overall patterns in hHGA prevalence by Indigenous status were quantified using prevalence rate ratios (PrRR) from negative binomial models. Bayesian spatial models were used to obtain smoothed prevalence estimates of hHGA across 528 small areas compared to the state average. Results are presented as maps and graphs showing the associated uncertainty of the estimates. RESULTS Overall, screened Indigenous women had significantly higher hHGA prevalence than non-Indigenous women. However, the magnitude of the difference reduced over time (p < 0.001). Adjusted for age and area-level variables, Indigenous women had 36% higher hHGA prevalence (PrRR 1.36, 95% confidence interval [1.21-1.52]) than non-Indigenous women between 2013 and 2017. The overall effect of age decreased over time (p = 0.021). Although there was evidence of moderate spatial variation in 10-year prevalence estimates for both groups of women, the high levels of uncertainty for many estimates, particularly for Indigenous women, limited our ability to draw definitive conclusions about the spatial patterns. CONCLUSIONS While the temporal reduction in Indigenous: non-Indigenous differential in hHGA prevalence is encouraging, further research into the key drivers of the continuing higher risk among Indigenous women is warranted.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the factors associated with adolescent compliance with the human papillomavirus vaccine. Method: this is a cross-sectional study, developed through a school survey, in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil, whose data collection occurred in 2018. A scale was used to assess decision-making, attitudes, feelings and knowledge about the human papillomavirus, in addition to a questionnaire to collect sociodemographic, economic and vaccination status data. The variables were submitted to the multivariate model of logistic regression to explain factors associated with vaccination adeforemen. Results: the study sample consisted of 624 adolescents, 15 years old, attending the first year of high school, of which 22.8% received the human papillomavirus vaccine. Being male decreases the chance of complying with the vaccine by 50% (aOR=0.05). Moreover, disagreeing or disagreeing with or disagreeing with parents to make the decision to vaccinate their children also reduced the chances of vaccination by 66% (aOR=0.34), respectively, as well as disagreeing with or disagreeing that men do not take human papillomavirus, minimized the chances of vaccination complying with vaccination by 66% (aOR=0.34), when compared to those who disagreed with this statement. Conclusion: low adolescent compliance with human papillomavirus vaccine was identified. Adolescents remain susceptible to diseases related to the human papillomavirus. Therefore, vaccination strategies need to be rethought, with the offer of vaccination in schools, mediated by educational campaigns.

Abstract
Host defense caerin 1.1 and 1.9 peptides, isolated from the glandular secretion of Australian tree frogs, the genus Litoria, have been previously shown to have multiple biological activities, including the inhibition of human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 early protein E7 transformed murine as well as human cancerous cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. However, the mechanism underlying their anti-proliferative activities against HPV18+ cervical cancer HeLa cells remains unknown. This study comparatively investigated the anti-proliferation on HeLa cells by caerin 1.1, 1.9, and their mixture, followed by confocal microscopy examination to assess the cellular intake of the peptides. Tandem mass tag labeling proteomics was employed to reveal the proteins that were significantly regulated by the peptide treatment in cells and cell growth environment, to elucidate the signaling pathways that were modulated. Western blot was performed to confirm the modulation of the pathways. Both caerin 1.1 and 1.9 highly inhibited HeLa cell proliferation with a significant additive effect compared to untreated and control peptide. They entered the cells with different magnitudes. Intensive protein-protein interaction was detected among significantly upregulated proteins. Translation, folding and localization of proteins and RNA processing, apoptosis process was significantly enriched post the treatments. The apoptotic signaling was suggested as a result of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) pathway activation, indicated by the dose-dependent elevated levels of caspase 3 and caspase 9. The epidermal growth factor receptor and androgen receptor pathways appeared inhibited by the peptides. Moreover, the activation of T-cell receptor derived from the quantitation results further implies the likelihood of recruiting more T cells to the cell growth environment post the treatment and more sensitive to T cell mediated killing of HeLa cells. Our results indicate that caerin 1.1 and 1.9 mediate apoptotic signals of HeLa cells and may subsequently enhances adaptive T cell immune responses.

Abstract
Background There has been limited research on the comparison of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) of cervical cancer and that lack of information may have significant bearing on the treatment of patients. We compared survival outcomes between squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma in locally advanced cervical cancer patients and examined factors related to the prognosis of cervical cancer. Methods We identified 4131 patients with stage IB2-IVA cervical cancer patients diagnosed between 2010 and 2015 by using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Variables related to the prognosis of cervical cancer were compared using both univariate and multivariate Cox models and log-rank method before and after propensity score matching. We compared the efficacy of radiotherapy alone to radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy or/and surgery in overall survival of SCC and AC. Results Our sample included 3385 patients with SCC (81.9%) and 746 patients with AC (18.1%). The 5-year overall survival on comparing the squamous cell carcinoma group and adenocarcinoma group was not significant (P > 0.05). Using propensity score matching, 676 pairs of patients were selected. The 5-year overall survival of matched patients did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). Histology was not independently associated with overall survival in multivariate Cox model (P > 0.05). Factors affecting overall survival included FIGO stage IVA (P < 0.05), chemotherapy (P < 0.05), and external radiation combined with brachytherapy (P < 0.05). Patients with SCC that were treated with radiation alone had significantly worse OS than AC patients receiving radiation only (P < 0.05). Conclusions The OS in AC of the cervix is similar to that SCC in when treated with radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy and/or surgery but better when treated with radiation alone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and cervical screening prevent cervical cancer effectively. However, there are concerns whether vaccination leads to high-risk sexual behaviors and less intention for cervical screening. We aimed to evaluate the influence of HPV vaccination on high-risk sexual behaviors, and intention for cervical screening among young Chinese females. We also reported the latest HPV vaccination uptake in Hong Kong. METHODS A population-based survey was conducted between September 2016 and January 2017. Subjects were school-age girls from twenty-five secondary schools (in-school) and community females between 18 and 27 years (out-school). Demographics, vaccine-related attitudes, intention for cervical screening and participants' sexual behaviors were examined. RESULTS We surveyed 2260 females from in-school (n = 1664) and out-school (n = 596) settings. 11.5% in-school and 23.5% out-school participants received at least one dose of HPV vaccine. Vaccination was not associated with age (in-school Odds Ratio [OR] 0.99, p = 0.87; out-school OR 1, p = 0.94), ethnicity (in-school OR 0.82, p = 0.72; out-school OR 0, p = 0.98), maternal education (in-school OR for secondary school 1.19, p = 0.43; for post-secondary school 1.28, p = 0.48), underage sex (in-school OR 1.22, p = 0.80; out-school OR 0.63, p = 0.67), earlier sexual exposure (in-school β 0.01, p = 0.99; out-school β 0.13, p = 0.68), multiple sex partners (in-school OR 3.27, p = 0.22; out-school OR 1.16, p = 0.43), and unprotected sex (in-school OR 1.14, p = 0.78; out-school OR 0.60, p = 0.10). Out-school females with higher personal education level was associated with higher vaccine uptake (post-secondary OR 3.4, p < 0.001; bachelor's degree or above OR 3.71, p < 0.001). More vaccinated females intended for cervical screening (in-school 23.6% vs. 21.1%; out-school 53.6% vs. 43.6%). Costs and knowledge were important factors for non-vaccination and non-intention for cervical screening. CONCLUSIONS HPV vaccination was not associated with earlier and high risk sexual behavior among Chinese young females. Vaccinated Chinese young females had a higher intention for cervical screening.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To estimate human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage and course completion rates for Indigenous adolescents in four Australian states and territories. PARTICIPANTS, SETTING Adolescents who were 12 years old in 2015 and received the quadrivalent HPV vaccine (three doses: 0, 2, 6 months) as part of the National HPV Vaccination Program in 2015 or 2016 in New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, or the Australian Capital Territory. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Estimated HPV vaccination coverage by dose and by Indigenous status and sex, based on National HPV Vaccination Program Register data; vaccination course completion rates (proportion of dose 1 recipients who received dose 3) for 12-year-olds vaccinated during 2013-2016, by sex, jurisdiction, and Indigenous status. RESULTS Dose 1 coverage exceeded 80% for all Indigenous status/jurisdiction/sex groups (range, 83.3-97.7%). Coverage was similar for Indigenous and non-Indigenous girls in Queensland (87.3% v 87.0%), lower for Indigenous girls in the ACT (88.7% v 97.7%) and the NT (91.1% v 97.0%), and higher in NSW (95.9% v 89.9%); it was similar for Indigenous and non-Indigenous boys in all jurisdictions except the NT (88.6% v 96.3%). Dose 3 coverage (range, 61.2-87.7%) was markedly lower for Indigenous than non-Indigenous 12-year-olds in all jurisdictions, except for girls in NSW (82.6% v 83.6%). CONCLUSION HPV vaccine coverage is high, but course completion is generally lower for Indigenous adolescents. Strategies for improving completion rates for Indigenous Australians are needed to end the higher burden of cervical cancer among Indigenous than non-Indigenous women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasing studies have identified a series of circulating mircoRNAs (miRNAs) as biomarkers for disease detection due to their stability in the blood. The aim of the present study was to identify specific plasma miRNAs as potential biomarkers for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) detection. MATERIALS AND METHODS Relative public microarray data were obtained and analyzed for screening of the plasma differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) between NPC patients and controls. This study contained two phases: a screening phase and a validation one. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) analyses were used to identify DEM signatures. Moreover, targeted genes of the selected DEMs were predicted and their functions were annotated by using bioinformatic analysis. RESULTS Both the screening and the validation phases showed that three miRNAs (miR-548q, miR-630 and miR-940) in the plasma of NPC patients were up-regulated compared to those of controls. They can be used as biomarkers for discriminating NPC patients from non-cancerous controls. Moreover, we found a classifier including only two miRNAs (miR-548q and miR-940) that can be used as a diagnostic signature for NPC, achieving an area under curve (AUC) of 0.972, a sensitivity of 0.94, and a specificity of 0.925. CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrated that three miRNAs (miR-548q, miR-630 and miR940) might be novel and useful biomarkers for NPC detection. A two-miRNA signature (miR-548q and miR940) may be considered as a better biomarker for NPC detection with relatively high sensitivity and specificity. Future studies with large sample sizes are needed for further validation.
