Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Sleep disturbances are prevalent among pediatric cancer survivors (PCSs) and their caregivers, often leading to poorer dietary choices and reduced physical activity. Additionally, the sleep quality and health behaviors of parents and children can affect each other. This study examined bi-directional associations between PCSs and their parents' sleep quality and health-related behaviors. METHODS 127 parent-child dyads enrolled in a behavioral intervention for pediatric cancer survivors (Mage = 11.04; 53.2% female) and their families completed the Patient Sleep Quality Inventory (PSQI) and USDA Parent or Child Food and Activity Questionnaire (FAQ). Two actor-partner interdependence models, using multi-level modeling and adjusting for relevant confounds, estimated the bidirectional associations between the parent-child dyad's sleep quality and composite food and physical activity quality. RESULTS After controlling for partner BMI and actor and partner age, the effect of children's PSQI scores on parent's FAQ scores was statistically significant (β = -0.23, p = 0.036). Poorer sleep quality in children was associated with worse physical activity and dietary behaviors in parents. Second, after adjusting for race, a significant partner effect for parents' FAQ scores on children's PSQI scores was shown-greater parental food and physical activity quality was associated with better sleep quality in PCS (β = -0.20, p = 0.041). CONCLUSIONS Better food and activity quality for parents is linked to improved sleep quality for children, while children's poor sleep quality is associated with lower food and activity quality in parents. The findings highlight the prospective value of systems-focused clinical interventions to manage sleep quality and promote positive health behaviors among PCS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preteen girls of lower socioeconomic position are at increased risk of physical inactivity. Parental support, particularly from mothers, is positively correlated with girls' physical activity levels. Consequently, family-based interventions are recognized as a promising approach to improve young people's physical activity. However, the effects of these interventions on girls' physical activity are often inconsistent, with calls for more rigorous, theory-informed, and co-designed family-based interventions to promote physical activity in this cohort. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to use co-design methods to develop an evidence- and theory-informed mother-daughter mobile health intervention prototype targeting physical activity in preteen girls. METHODS The intervention prototype was developed in accordance with the United Kingdom Medical Research Council framework, the Behaviour Change Wheel, the Theoretical Domains Framework, and the Behaviour Change Techniques Ontology. The Behaviour Change Intervention Ontology was also used to annotate the intervention characteristics. The co-design process incorporated three phases: (1) behavioral analysis, (2) the selection of intervention components, and (3) refinement of the intervention prototype. Throughout these phases, workshops were conducted with preteen girls (n=10), mothers of preteen girls (n=9), and primary school teachers (n=6), with additional input from an academic advisory panel. RESULTS This 3-phase co-design process resulted in the development of a theory-informed intervention that targeted two behaviors: (1) mothers' engagement in a range of supportive behaviors for their daughters' physical activity and (2) daughters' physical activity behavior. Formative research identified 11 theoretical domains to be targeted as part of the intervention (eg, knowledge, skills, and beliefs about capabilities). These were to be targeted by 6 intervention functions (eg, education, persuasion, and modeling) and 27 behavior change techniques (eg, goal setting and self-monitoring). The co-design process resulted in a mobile app being chosen as the mode of delivery for the intervention. CONCLUSIONS This paper offers a comprehensive description and analysis of using co-design methods to develop a mother-daughter mobile health intervention prototype that is ready for feasibility and acceptability testing. The Behaviour Change Wheel, Theoretical Domains Framework, and Behaviour Change Techniques Ontology provided a systematic and transparent theoretical foundation for developing the prototype by enabling the identification of potential pathways for behavior change. Annotating the Behaviour Change Intervention Ontology entities represents the intervention characteristics in a detailed and structured way that supports improved communication, replication, and implementation of interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aimed to synthesise the literature about interventions for parents of adolescents with intellectual disability, including parental experience of receiving interventions and intervention effectiveness. METHODS Eligible interventions aimed to improve parenting skills and/or parent-adolescent relationships, adolescent behavioural/emotional problems and/or parent well-being. ASSIA, EMBASE, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science were last searched on 11 July 2024. The TIDieR checklist and the MMAT were used for quality appraisal. A narrative synthesis was conducted. (Pre-registration: PROSPERO CRD42022384409). RESULTS Twelve studies with 1041 families were included. Intervention descriptions were detailed; however, study quality was mixed. Nearly all studies reported the intervention was associated with positive effects on parenting, parent-adolescent relationships, adolescent behaviour/emotional problems or parent well-being. Three randomised controlled trials (RCTs) offer the strongest evidence but are limited in quality. All studies investigating parent experiences reported positive responses. CONCLUSIONS High-quality studies (e.g., RCTs) are needed to enable conclusions about efficacy and effectiveness.

Abstract
Disadvantaged adolescents, including those from lower socioeconomic status (SES) or geographically remote backgrounds, engage in higher rates of risk behaviours, including poor diet, alcohol and tobacco use. While digital interventions targeting lifestyle risk behaviours show potential, few studies have focused on their implementation and relevance for this population. This study conducted a process evaluation of 'Health4Life', a universal school-based digital program targeting multiple behaviours, among a sample of disadvantaged adolescents. Participants were from six schools classified as low SES (Index of Community Socio-educational Advantage percentile score ≤ 25%), and/or regional using the Australian Statistical Geography Standard. Self-reported student (n = 214) and teacher evaluations (n = 16) assessed Health4Life's acceptability, with qualitative questions capturing areas for improvement. Teacher-reported implementation data (n = 16) measured intervention fidelity and feasibility. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and open-ended responses were thematically analysed. Compared to the entire sample, this subset of students evaluated Health4Life less favourably (66% versus 75%), with fewer enjoying the stories (63% versus 75%) and planning to use the skills and information (60% versus 70%). Teacher evaluations were mostly positive and aligned closely with the entire sample. Fidelity data also indicated comparable levels of student engagement (~92% versus ~85%). Key themes for refinement included improving content relevance and technical execution to better resonate with disadvantaged adolescents. While teacher evaluations suggest Health4Life is a valuable program in low SES or regional contexts, students' lower ratings indicate refinements are needed. Identified areas for improvement will guide co-designing the program's adaptation to improve effectiveness and relevance for disadvantaged adolescents. Trial registration: The Health4Life trial is registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12619000431123).

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the efficacy of school-based e-cigarette preventive interventions via a systematic review and meta-analysis. We searched Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, Scopus, CINAHL, Cochrane, and clinical trial registries for studies published between January 2000 and June 2023 using keywords for e-cigarettes, adolescents, and school. Of 1566 double-screened records, 11 met the criteria of targeting adolescents, evaluating an e-cigarette preventive intervention, being conducted in a secondary school, using a randomized controlled trial (RCT), cluster RCT, or quasi-experimental design, and comparing an intervention to a control. Pre-specified data pertaining to the study design, outcomes, and quality were extracted by one reviewer and confirmed by a second, and where necessary, a third reviewer. Meta-analyses found no evidence that school-based interventions prevented e-cigarette use at the longest follow-up, which ranged between 6 and 36 months post-intervention (OR = 0.43, 95% CI = 0.16, 1.12; p = 0.09). However, subgroup analyses identified significant effects at post-test and when studies with < 12-month follow-up were omitted. No effect was found for tobacco use at the longest follow-up (OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 0.65, 1.59, p = 0.95); however, reductions in past 30-day tobacco use (OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.39, 0.89, p = 0.01) which encompassed e-cigarettes in some studies were identified. Narrative synthesis supported these mixed results and found some school-based interventions prevented or reduced e-cigarette and/or tobacco use; however, some increased use. School-based interventions were also associated with improved knowledge (SMD = - 0.38, 95% CI = - 0.68, - 0.08, p = 0.01), intentions (SMD = - 0.15, 95% CI = - 0.22, - 0.07, p = 0.0001), and attitudes (SMD = - 0.14, 95% CI = - 0.22, - 0.06; p = 0.0007) in the short term. Overall, the quality of evidence was low-to-moderate. School-based interventions hold the potential for addressing e-cigarette use, however, can have null or iatrogenic effects. More high-quality research is needed to develop efficacious interventions, and schools must be supported to adopt evidence-based programs. This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the efficacy of school-based preventive interventions for e-cigarette use. It provides crucial new knowledge about the efficacy of such interventions in preventing e-cigarette use and improving other outcomes (e.g., tobacco use, knowledge, intentions, attitudes, and mental health) among adolescents and the key characteristics associated with efficacious interventions. Our findings have important practical implications, highlighting future research directions for the development and evaluation of e-cigarette preventive interventions, along with the need to provide support to schools to help them identify and adopt evidence-based programs.

Abstract
Parenting practices such as parental monitoring are known to positively impact dietary behaviours in offspring. However, links between adolescent-perceived parental monitoring and dietary outcomes have rarely been examined and never in an Australian context. This study investigated whether adolescent-perceived parental monitoring is associated with more fruit and vegetable, and less sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) and junk food consumption in Australian adolescents. Cross-sectional data was collected as part of baseline measurement for a randomised controlled trial in 71 Australian schools in 2019. Self-reported fruit, vegetable, SSB and junk food intake, perceived parental monitoring and sociodemographic factors were assessed. Each dietary variable was converted to "not at risk/at risk" based on dietary guidelines, binary logistic regressions examined associations between dietary intake variables and perceived parental monitoring while controlling for gender and socio-economic status. The study was registered in ANZCTR clinical trials. The sample comprised 6053 adolescents (Mage = 12.7, SD = 0.5; 50.6% male-identifying). The mean parental monitoring score was 20.1/24 (SD = 4.76) for males and 21.9/24 (SD = 3.37) for females. Compared to adolescents who perceived lower levels of parental monitoring, adolescents reporting higher parental monitoring had higher odds of insufficient fruit (OR = 1.03; 95% CI = 1.02-1.05) and excessive SSB (OR = 1.07; 95% CI = 1.06-1.09) intake, but lower odds of excessive junk food (OR = 0.96; 95% CI = 0.95-0.98) and insufficient vegetable (OR = 0.97, 95% CI = 0.96-0.99) intake. Adolescent dietary intake is associated with higher perceived parental monitoring; however, these associations for fruit and SSB differ to junk food and vegetable intake. This study may have implications for prevention interventions for parents, identifying how this modifiable parenting factor is related to adolescent diet has highlighted how complex the psychological and environmental factors contributing to dietary intake are.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Girls are more at risk than boys of the non-communicable diseases associated with insufficient levels of physical activity (PA), therefore it is important to explore the reasons why girls maintain or cease to be physically active. Maternal support plays an important role in girl's PA, yet the factors influencing mothers' support of their PA have received limited exploration. In response, the aim of this study was to explore, mothers' experiences of supporting their daughters to be physically active and their perceptions of the factors that might influence these experiences. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of mothers (n = 29) of girls (Mean age = 10.9 years; SD = 0.6). Reflexive Thematic Analysis was used to analyse the data, with themes mapped to the relevant domains of the Theoretical Domains Framework. RESULTS Themes highlighted how mothers described providing PA support as an inherent part of their parental role and how their role was influenced by their own PA identity. Mothers recognised that the type and amount of support they provided was impacted by the community setting in which they lived. Mothers acknowledged how the role of others (e.g., partners, grandparents, peers) added a layer of complexity to supporting their daughters to be active. CONCLUSION This study advances our understanding of maternal PA support behaviours recognising the complex interplay of individual, social and environmental factors. Additionally, the use of the Theoretical Domains Framework presents an in-depth behavioural diagnosis which can be used to inform future theory-based interventions to promote parent support of children's PA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, new technologies such as the introduction of the smartphone and the tablet in everyday life and habits have often made adolescents sedentary. It is becoming a serious problem in society. It is important to propose, as soon as possible, proper and feasible programs to modify this trend. A solution should be to increase physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviors. Adopting dogs and walking and playing with them could be a solution, and the population should be sensitized about this aspect. Consequently, the objective of this scoping revision of the literature is to analyze the association between physical activity in adolescents and the presence of a dog in the family. METHODS Three electronic databases were screened until 21 February 2024. The detected articles were screened against the eligibility criteria. The results were narratively discussed. RESULTS After the screening process, a total of four studies were included. The studies presented heterogeneity in the physical activity assessment. This made it hard to synthesize the results. Indicatively, there is a positive association between physical activity and dog ownership. CONCLUSIONS walking and playing with the dog increase the physical activity level of adolescents. Therefore, a sensibilization campaign should highlight the importance of having dogs in families, especially in adolescence. It is fundamental to daily walk and play with them.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The influence of sleep disorders on metabolism, especially concerning obesity and diabetes, as well as obesity and obstructive sleep apnea, has been widely investigated. However, the effect of nutrition and the intake of certain foods on sleep has only recently gained attention. In recent years, there have been publications on intake of certain foods and certain diets regarding their influence on sleep, as well as activity of adipocytes and their effect on production of sleep hormones. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, we performed a PubMed search using the key words "sleep," "sleep disorders," "nutrition," "food," and "food intake" published from 2012 to 2022. We excluded by consensus all articles with diets and exercise programs or bariatric surgery for weight loss to treat sleep apnea, all articles on connections between sleep disorders and metabolic disorders, and articles concerning the influence of drugs on neuroactive substances. RESULTS Of the 4155 publications revealed, 988 had nutrition, metabolism, and sleep as the primary topic of research. Of these 988 publications, only 26 fulfilled the content requirements concerning the influence of certain food and diets on sleep or sleep disorders, including the influence of the gastrointestinal system and adipocytes on sleep hormones. None of the investigations revealed clear evidence of an effect of a certain diet or food on sleep. Epidemiologic surveys suggest that shortened or fragmented sleep and chronotype in adults influence nutrition and fat metabolism. Additionally, there is evidence that adipocyte signaling influences neuronal mediators and hormones of the sleep-wake cycle. CONCLUSION There is no evidence of a direct influence of certain nutrition or food intake on sleep. Obesity via adipocyte signaling may influence the sleep-wake cycle, though the molecular research on this topic is based on animal studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lifestyle risk behaviours are prevalent among adolescents and commonly co-occur, but current intervention approaches tend to focus on single risk behaviours. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the eHealth intervention Health4Life in modifying six key lifestyle risk behaviours (ie, alcohol use, tobacco smoking, recreational screen time, physical inactivity, poor diet, and poor sleep, known as the Big 6) among adolescents. METHODS We conducted a cluster-randomised controlled trial in secondary schools that had a minimum of 30 year 7 students, in three Australian states. A biostatistician randomly allocated schools (1:1) to Health4Life (a six-module, web-based programme and accompanying smartphone app) or an active control group (usual health education) with the Blockrand function in R, stratified by site and school gender composition. All students aged 11-13 years who were fluent in English and attended participating schools were eligible. Teachers, students, and researchers were not masked to allocation. Primary outcomes were alcohol use, tobacco use, recreational screen time, moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), sugar-sweetened beverage intake, and sleep duration at 24 months, measured by self-report surveys, and analysed in all students who were eligible at baseline. Latent growth models estimated between-group change over time. This trial is registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12619000431123). FINDINGS Between April 1, 2019, and Sept 27, 2019, we recruited 85 schools (9280 students), of which 71 schools with 6640 eligible students (36 schools [3610 students] assigned to the intervention and 35 [3030 students] to the control) completed the baseline survey. 14 schools were excluded from the final analysis or withdrew, mostly due to a lack of time. We found no between-group differences for alcohol use (odds ratio 1·24, 95% CI 0·58-2·64), smoking (1·68, 0·76-3·72), screen time (0·79, 0·59-1·06), MVPA (0·82, 0·62-1·09), sugar-sweetened beverage intake (1·02, 0·82-1·26), or sleep (0·91, 0·72-1·14) at 24 months. No adverse events were reported during this trial. INTERPRETATION Health4Life was not effective in modifying risk behaviours. Our results provide new knowledge about eHealth multiple health behaviour change interventions. However, further research is needed to improve efficacy.
