Abstract
A photoactive analogue of cisplatin was synthesized with two arylazopyrazole ligands, able to undergo trans-cis/cis-trans photoisomerizations. The cis photoisomer showed a dark half-life of 9 days. The cytotoxicities of both photoisomers of the complex were determined in several cancer and normal cell lines and compared to that of cisplatin. The trans photoisomer of the complex was much more cytotoxic than both the cis photoisomer and cisplatin, and was more toxic for cancer (4T1) than for normal (NMuMG) murine breast cells. 4T1 cell death occurred through necrosis. Photoisomerization of the trans and cis photoisomers internalized by the 4T1 cells increased and decreased their viability, respectively. The cellular uptake of the trans photoisomer was stronger than that of both the cis photoisomer and cisplatin. Both photoisomers interacted with DNA faster than cisplatin. The trans photoisomer was bound stronger by bovine serum albumin and induced a greater decrease in cellular glutathione levels than the cis photoisomer.

Abstract
The molecular crystals of monomeric and dimeric pyrazole complexes were prepared via one-pot syntheses. These are dichloridobis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-κN1)cobalt/zinc(0.2/0.8), [Co0.20Zn0.80Cl2(C5H8N2)2] or [Co0.2Zn0.8Cl2(3,5-dmp)2] (1), and bis(μ-3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole)-κ2N1:N2;κ2N2:N1-bis[bromido/chlorido(0.7/0.3)bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-κN1)cobalt/zinc(0.1/0.9)], [Co0.20Zn1.80Br1.40Cl0.60(C5H7N2)2(C5H8N2)2] or [Co0.1Zn0.9Br0.7Cl0.3(μ-3,5-dmp)(3,5-dmp)]2 (2). The isolated complexes contain 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (3,5-dmp) ligands formed in situ from the decomposition of 1-hydroxymethyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazole. In both isolated complexes, some positional disorder is observed at the metal ions and halogen ligands. The molecular crystals of 1 and 2 are centrosymmetric, with the space groups C2/c and P-1, respectively. Additionally, in the dinuclear complex, the pyrazole ring has a bridging coordination function with respect to the metal ions. Both complexes have good biological activities against cancer cells. The results of an in vitro cytotoxicity study indicated that compounds 1 and 2 showed significant cytotoxicity for cancer cell lines, including hepatic (HepG2 cells), lung (A549 cells) and colon cancer cells (SW 480 and SW 620). Based on the calculated IC50 values against human cancer cell lines, it was found that both complexes demonstrated potent antiproliferative activity combined with great selectivity towards cancer cells. Complex 2 was a more effective cytotoxic agent which, at the same time, exhibited high cytocompatibility. The obtained data are very encouraging and could be useful for anticancer drug discovery.

Abstract
Five heteroleptic palladium(II) complexes of the general formula Pd(PR3)(tu)Cl2, where PR3 = triphenylphosphine (1), diphenyl-o-tolylphosphine (2), diphenyl-p-tolylphosphine (3), diphenyl-t-butylphosphine (4), and diphenyl-o-methoxyphenylphosphine (5), and tu = 1,3-bis(2-methoxyphenyl) thiourea. They all have been synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques (elemental analysis, FTIR, and (1)H NMR and the ligand 1,3-bis(2-methoxyphenyl) thiourea was synthesized by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique). The synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against four strains of bacteria (Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis). The antitumor potential was evaluated in terms of activity against brine shrimp eggs and DNA interaction. The mixed ligand complexes have exhibited moderate antibacterial activity and promising antitumor potential.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious medical and economical problem of our times. It is the most common gastrointestinal cancer in the world. In Poland, the treatment and detection of CRC are poorly developed and the pathogenesis is still unclear. One hypothesis suggests a role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the pathogenesis of CRC. Experimental studies in recent years confirm the participation of ROS in the initiation and promotion of CRC. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of the following coordination compounds coordination compounds: dinitrate (V) tetra(3,4,5-trimethyl-N1-pyrazole-κN2) copper(II), dichloro di(3,4,5-trimethyl-N1-pyrazole-κN2) copper(II), dinitrate (V) di(1,4,5-trimethyl-N1-pyrazole-κN2) copper(II), dichloro di(1,3,4,5-tetramethyl-N1-pyrazole-κN2) copper(II) on the activity of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD, ZnCu-SOD) and catalase (CAT) in a group of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and in the control group consisting of patients with minor gastrointestinal complaints. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was conducted in 20 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the age of 66.5±10.2 years (10 men and 10 women) versus the control group of 20 people (10 men and 10 women) aged 57.89±17.10 years without cancer lesions in the biological material - hemolysate prepared in a proportion of 1ml of water per 1 ml of blood. CAT activity was measured by the Beers method (1952), while SOD activity was measured by the Misra and Fridovich method (1972). RESULTS We found that patients with CRC showed a statistically significant decrease of SOD and CAT activity (CAT - 12,75±1.97 U/g Hb, SOD - 1111.52±155.52 U/g Hb) in comparison with the control group (CAT - 19.65±2,17 U/g Hb, SOD - 2046.26±507.22 U/g Hb). Simultaneously, we observed that the investigated coordination compounds of Cu(II) significantly increased the antioxidant activity of CAT and SOD in patients with CRC (mean: CAT 25.23±4.86 U/g Hb, SOD - 3075.96±940.20 U/g Hb). CONCLUSIONS Patients with colorectal cancer are characterized by reduced activity of antioxidant enzymes catalase and superoxide dismutase which suggests impaired antioxidant barrier. Therefore, coordination compounds of Cu (II), which enhance the activity of CAT and SOD, may prove useful in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.
