Abstract
Exposure of zebrafish embryos to glucose is a suitable model for the fetal hyperglycemia seen in gestational diabetes. Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), which is considered an endocrine-disrupting chemical, is one of the most common phthalate derivatives used in stretching plastic and is encountered in every area where plastic is used in daily life. In the present study, the effects of DEHP on pathways related to insulin resistance and obesity were examined in zebrafish embryos exposed to glucose as a fetal hyperglycemia model. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to DEHP, glucose, and glucose + DEHP for 72 h post-fertilization (hpf), and developmental parameters and locomotor activities were monitored. At 72 hpf ins, lepa, pparγ, atf4a, and il-6 expressions were determined by RT-PCR. Glucose, lipid peroxidation (LPO), nitric oxide (NO) levels, glutathione S-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and acetylcholine esterase (AChE) activities were measured spectrophotometrically. Compared with the control group, glucose, LPO, GST activity, il6, and atf4a expressions increased in all exposure groups, while body length, locomotor, and SOD activities decreased. While AChE activity decreased in the DEHP and glucose groups, it increased in the glucose + DEHP group. Although glucose exposure increased pparγ and lepa expressions, DEHP significantly decreased the expressions of pparγ and lepa both in the DEHP and glucose + DEHP groups. Our findings showed that DEHP amplified oxidant and inflammatory responses in this fetal hyperglycemia model, predisposing insulin resistance in zebrafish embryos.

Abstract
Phenotypic flexibility is a methodology that accurately assesses health in terms of mechanistic understanding of the interrelationship of multiple metabolic and physiological processes. This starts from the perspective that a healthy person is better able to cope with changes in environmental stressors that affect homeostasis compared to people with a compromised health state. The term 'phenotypic flexibility' expresses the cumulative ability of overarching physiological processes to return to homeostatic levels after short-term perturbations. The concept of phenotypic flexibility to define biomarkers for nutrition-related health was introduced in 2009 in the area of health optimisation and prevention and delay of non-communicable disease. The core approach consists of the combination of imposing a challenge test to the body followed by time-resolved analysis of multiple biomarkers. This new approach may better facilitate nutritional health research in intervention studies since it may show effects on early derailed physiological markers and the biomarker response can be extended by perturbing the system, thereby making them more sensitive in detecting health effects from food and nutrition. At the same time, interindividual variation can also be extended and compressed by challenge tests, facilitating the bridge to personalised nutrition. This review will overview where the science is in this research arena and what the phenotypic flexibility potential is for the nutrition field.

Abstract
Efforts to fully utilize pomace volatiles have been obstructed by the lack of high-performance technologies to release free and bound volatiles. This study first established that ferric chloride (FeCl3) could strongly release the sweet-enhancing volatiles (SVs) from goji pomace, thus increasing the main aroma compounds [MACs; odor activity value (OAV) > 1] from 9 to 27. The underlying mechanism included the special hydrolysis to glycosides by ferric ions acting as Brønsted and Lewis acids, and the oxidation of β-carotene and β-ionone by electrophilic ferrite. The sweet fragrance could be reconstituted and simulated by the 27 MACs. Subsequent extraction and concentration increased MACs on average by 2.28-fold, and the extracted essence could be used as a green and safe sweet-enhancing sugar substitute for specific consumers. These study findings laid a foundation for understanding the relationship between metal salts and flavor chemistry, further providing an opportunity for the full utilization of resources.

Abstract
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a major cause of maternal and offspring morbidity and mortality worldwide. Several studies in recent years have focused on the link between HDP and pubertal development in offspring. The goal of this study was to synthesize the published literature on the effect of HDP on pubertal development in offspring by a systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO 2021: CRD42020148736). A systematic literature search of several databases was conducted through December 2021, focusing on studies reporting pubertal development in offspring of women with and without HDP exposure. Primary outcomes of interest included offspring body mass index (BMI), height, waist and hip circumference, fat mass, pubarche, thelarche, and age at menarche. A total of 21 studies were finally included. Significantly higher values of BMI (SMD: 0.16 [0.11, 0.22]; p < 0.01) and waist circumference (SMD: 0.21 [0.14, 0.29]; p < 0.01) were found in offspring exposed to maternal HDP. In addition, a tendency of the early development of secondary sexual characteristics only in daughters was presented in offspring whose mothers were diagnosed with HDP. The findings imply a possible effect of HDP on pubertal development in offspring, especially for their BMI and waist circumference, which highlights the importance of focusing on adolescent developmental abnormalities in offspring exposed to HDP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia (PE) with offspring adiposity outcomes had controversial results in different studies. OBJECTIVE We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between maternal GH/PE and offspring adiposity outcomes. SEARCH STRATEGY Studies were identified in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases, with keywords including "gestational hypertension", "preeclampsia", "offspring", "weight", "cohort study", etc., without year restriction. This study was registered with PROSPERO, CRD42022292084. SELECTION CRITERIA We set the selection criteria for six aspects: population, outcome, time frame, study design, and availability. For the studies included in the meta-analysis, we required the potential confounders in these studies have been adjusted. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two reviewers independently evaluated the data from the included studies. The meta-analyses included mean differences, regression coefficients, and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Results were performed using RevMan software (version 5.4; Cochrane Collaboration). Heterogeneity among the included studies was assessed using the I2 statistic. MAIN RESULTS A total of 16 studies were included in our review, 15 of which were evaluated as high quality. In all offspring, during the early life (28 days-36 months), GH/PE exposure was found to be not or inversely associated with offspring obesity, then become positively associated at larger ages (3-19 years old). In offspring with adverse birth outcomes, the maternal GH/PE-exposed group had a lower weight in the short term (28 days to 18 months), but there was a trend of rapid weight gain as they grew older, compared with the non-exposed group. The meta-analysis showed that the BMI of the female offspring in the maternal PE-exposed group was significantly higher than that of the non-exposed offspring (MD=1.04, 95% CI: 0.67~1.42, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The systematic review suggested that maternal exposure to de novo hypertension disorders of pregnancy (HDP) was associated with obesity in offspring, extending from early childhood to adolescence. The meta-analysis showed that PE was associated with higher BMI in female offspring. More studies are needed to conduct stratified analyses by PE/GH, the severity of HDP, or gender. Abstract
Pediatric obesity is a multifaceted disease that can impact physical and mental health. It is a complex condition that interweaves biological, developmental, environmental, behavioral, and genetic factors. In most cases lifestyle and behavioral modification as well as medical treatment led to poor short-term weight reduction and long-term failure. Thus, bariatric surgery should be considered in adolescents with moderate to severe obesity who have previously participated in lifestyle interventions with unsuccessful outcomes. In particular, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is considered the most commonly performed bariatric surgery worldwide. The procedure is safe and feasible. The efficacy of this weight loss surgical procedure has been demonstrated in pediatric age. Nevertheless, there are barriers at the patient, provider, and health system levels, to be removed. First and foremost, more efforts must be made to prevent decline in nutritional status that is frequent after bariatric surgery, and to avoid inadequate weight loss and weight regain, ensuring successful long-term treatment and allowing healthy growth. In this narrative review, we considered the rationale behind surgical treatment options, outcomes, and clinical indications in adolescents with severe obesity, focusing on LSG, nutritional management, and resolution of metabolic comorbidities.
