Abstract
The field of cascade cyclization for the construction of 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) has been continuously expanding during the last decades because of their broad-spectrum biological and synthetic importance. To date, many methods have been developed, mainly including the Hantzsch reaction, Hantzsch-like reaction and newly developed cascade cyclization, in which various synthons have been successively developed as C4 sources of 1,4-DHPs. This review presents the cascade cyclization synthesis strategy for the construction of 1,4-DHPs according to various C4 sources from carbonyl compounds, alkenyl fragments, alcohols, aliphatic amines, glycines and other C4 sources.

Abstract
A highly efficient pot, atom, and step economical method for the construction of pharmacologically potent structurally functionalized 1,4-dihydropyridines, quaternary centered C-3 functionalized spiro[indoline-3,4'-pyridines], and C-11 functionalized spiro[indeno[1,2-b]quinoxaline-11,4'-pyridines] via rose bengal photoredox catalysis under blue LED irradiation in an aqueous medium at room temperature has been developed. The products were isolated in excellent yields within a short reaction time for a variety of functional groups under transition metal- and ligand-free energy-efficient conditions in a green solvent system with high reaction mass efficiency and process mass intensity, which are the key advantages of the current work.

Abstract
Eleven new tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives were synthesized via a three component reaction of different aromatic aldehydes, methyl cyanoacetate and 1,3-cyclohexadione, with water as solvent under catalyst-free microwave irradiation. The structures of all the new molecules were well analysed and their structures established by using various spectral techniques (1H NMR, 13C NMR, 15N NMR and HRMS). Various advantages of reported protocol are the ease of preparation, short reaction times (10 min), aqueous solvent and excellent yields (89–98%). Additionally, this method provides a clean access to the desired products by simple workup.![]()

Abstract
This work presents the preparation of a new series of N-(substituted phenyl)-2-(4-oxo-5-(4-(thieno[2,3-d]-pyrimidin-4-yloxy)benzylidene)-2-thioxothiazolidin-3-yl)acetamide derivatives (8a–8l). A condensation reaction of thienopyrimidin-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one derivative (5) with various 2-chloro-N-phenylacetamides (7a–7l) was employed to afford the new thienopyrimidine tagged rhodanine derivatives under acetone solvent in the presence of potassium carbonate (K2CO3). All of the novel target molecules were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and LC–MS spectral analyses and were screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activity by using the broth dilution method. Compounds 8c, 8g, and 8h found to have antibacterial potency against E. coli, B. subtilis, B. cereus, and K. pneumonia with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 3.25–6.25 μg/mL compared with the standard Gentamicin. Compounds 8c and 8f demonstrated better antifungal potency (MIC = 3.25–6.25 μg/mL) against A. flavus, A. niger, P. marneffei, and C. albicans when compared with Fluconazole.

Abstract
A facile, swift and ecofriendly microwave-assisted multi-component/one-pot protocol is designed for the synthesis of novel pyrazolo-[3,4-b]-quinolines at ambient temperature in aqueous ethanol as a reaction medium. The 18 novel pyrazolo-[3,4-b]-quinoline derivatives were synthesized by fusion of chosen aryl aldehyde, dimedone and 5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazole in excellent yields (91–98%). All the molecular structures were confirmed by 1H-NMR, 15N-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HRMS data analysis. Operational simplicity, easy handling, one-step simple workup procedure, mild reaction conditions, short reaction time (≤10 min), high selectivity and no by-product formation are the striking features of the protocol. Abstract
We describe the synthesis of silver loaded on zirconia and its use as an efficient catalyst for a one-pot three-component reaction to synthesize 11 indenopyrimidine derivatives, of which 7 are new compounds. The procedure involves substituted benzaldehydes, indane-1,3-dione, and guanidinium hydrochloride, with ethanol as solvent. The proposed green protocol at room temperature is simple and efficient, giving excellent yields (90⁻96%) in short reaction times (<30 min). The protocol works well according to the green chemistry principles with respect to high atom economy, no need for column separation, and reusability of the catalyst, which are attractive features. XRD, TEM, SEM, and BET analysis were used to characterize the catalyst materials.

Abstract
A novel material of bismuth loaded on zirconia (Bi2O3/ZrO2) is synthesized by simple wet-impregnation method and characterized by several techniques (P-XRD, TEM, SEM, BET, etc.). Bi2O3/ZrO2 proved to be a good catalyst for the four-component, one-pot reaction to produce a new series of 2,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole-3-carboxylate derivatives with excellent yields (91 to 98%) under mild conditions at RT with short reaction times (≈20 min). The structures of the target molecules were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 15N NMR, HRMS and FT-IR. The catalyst is easily separable and can be reused for six cycles without ostensible loss of activity. This method is inexpensive, atom-efficient and no chromatographic separations are needed.
