Abstract
Commercially available Fe(TTP)Cl catalyzes three-component dearomative formal cycloaddition reactions between pyridines, diazo compounds, and coumalates. Diversely substituted annelated seven-membered N-heterocycles could be generated in less than 10 min in one step at room temperature. The reaction is compatible to gram scale. The extension to benzimidazoles in place of pyridines has been successfully demonstrated. The mechanism of this reaction has been carefully examined by computational studies that corroborate the observed regioselectivities.

Abstract
A general, sustainable dearomatization reaction for nitrogen-containing heterocycles was developed. Under solvent free conditions and without catalyst, the biorenewable methyl coumalate (MC) reacted as an efficient C3 partner to convert nine types of basic aromatic rings into their pyrido[1,2-a] fused derivatives in good to excellent yields. The fluorescence properties of some of the products were harnessed to conjugate fluorescent tags to bovine serum albumin (BSA) and immunoglobulin G.

Abstract
The first iridium-catalyzed enantioselective olefinic C(sp2)-H allylic alkylation is developed in cooperation with Lewis base catalysis. This reaction, catalyzed by cinchonidine and an in situ generated cyclometalated Ir(i)/phosphoramidite complex, makes use of the latent enolate character of an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound, namely coumalate ester, to introduce an allyl group at its α-position in a branched-selective manner in moderate to good yield with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98 : 2 er).

Abstract
A novel alkyne-assisted annulation reaction of MBH-carbonates of propiolaldehydes with α-nitro/bromo ketones is reported, providing a facile synthesis of substituted 2H-pyrans in good yields. This reaction divulges the inimitable reactivity of the MBH-carbonates of propiolaldehydes as C3-synthons wherein the alkyne functionality promoted the reaction without participating in the oxa-[3+3] annulation. The obtained products, having alkyne and ester functionalities, allowed further annulations to generate diverse pyrano[3,4-c]pyran-1-ones.

Abstract
In this review, we discuss the nature of the different physicochemical factors affecting the valence isomerism between 2H-pyrans (2HPs) and 1-oxatrienes, and we describe the most versatile synthetic methods reported in recent literature to access to 2HPs, with the only exception of 2HPs fused to aromatic rings (i.e., 2H-chromenes), which are not included in this review.
