Abstract
The density functional theory (DFT) is applied to theoretically study the capture and storage of three different nitro polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, 4-nitrophenol, 2-nitrophenol, and 9-nitroanthracene by activated carbon, with and without the presence of water. These species are pollutants derived from vehicle and industry emissions. The modeling of adsorption is carried out at the molecular level using a high-level density functional theory with the B3LYP-GD(BJ)/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory. The adsorption energies of polluting gases considered isolated and in a humid environment are compared to better understand the role of water. The calculations reveal different possible pathways involving the formation of chemical bonds between adsorbent and adsorbate on the formation of intermolecular van der Waals interactions. The negative adsorption energy on AC for the three species is obtained when they are treated individually and in mixture with H2O. The basis-set superposition error, estimated using the counterpoise correction, varies the adsorption energies by 2-13%. Dispersion effects were also taken into account. The adsorption energy ranges from -10 to -414 kJ/mol suggesting a diversity of pathways. The resulting analysis suggests three preferred pathways for capture. The main pathway is physical interaction due to π-π stacking. Other means are capture due to the formation of hydrogen bonds resulting from water adsorbed on the surface and the simultaneous adsorption of pollutant and water where water can act as a link that promotes adsorption. The thermodynamic properties give a clue to the most eco-friendly approaches for molecular adsorption.

Abstract
Because nanomaterials are highly reactive and electronically sensitive towards a variety of drug molecules, they are thought of as efficient drug sensors. In the present research study, an aluminum carbide (C3Al) monolayer is employed and its interaction is examined with cyclophosphamide (CP) by performing DFT computations. The C3Al monolayer is highly reactive and sensitive towards CP according to the computations. CP interacts with the C3Al monolayer with the adsorption energy of -31.39 kcal/mol. A considerable charge transfer (CT) indicates an enhancement in the conductivity. Also, the charge density is explained based on the electron density differences (EDD). The decrease in CP/C3Al energy gap (Eg) by approximately 52.91% is due to the remarkable effect of adsorption on the LUMO and the HOMO levels. Therefore, due to the decrease in Eg which can generate an electrical signal, the electrical conductivity is considerably increased. These results suggest that the C3Al monolayer can be employed as a proper electronic drug sensor for CP. Also, the recovery time for the desorption process of CP form the surface of C3Al is 351 s at 598 K.

Abstract
The adsorption of the Zejula drug on the surface of B12N12 nanocluster has studied using DFT and TD-DFT. The quantum calculations have performed at the M062X/6–311 + + G(d,p) level of theory in the solvent water. The adsorption of the Zejula from N13 atom on the B12N12 leads to the higher electrical conductivity due to the low Eg rather. The change of DM also displays a charge transfer between Zejula and nanocluster. The UV absorption and IR spectra were calculated. The adsorption of Zejula drug over B12N12 nanocluster in the complexes Zejula/B12N12 can be considered as a bathochromic shift. According to QTAIM analysis, -G(r)/V(r) values for B-O and B-N bonds confirming the electrostatic and partial covalent character. The values of LOL and ELF confirm that the interactions are dominated by electrostatic interaction contributions. The calculated data reveal the B12N12 nanocluster can be appropriate as a biomedical system for the delivery of Zejula drug.

Abstract
The influence of donor-acceptor (D-A) groups on the nonlinear optical (NLO) property of B12N12 functionalized nanocluster has been investigated by density functional theory. We study the effect of bonding of three electron acceptor ligands (CN, COOH, and NO2) and three donor ligands (NH2, N(CH3)2, and PhNH2) positioned at opposite ends of B12N12 nanocluster in the gas phase. The result reveals that the complexation of D-A groups on the B12N12 nanocluster is energetically favorable and significantly narrowed the HOMO-LUMO gaps. The functionalization of D-A groups lead to an extremely large first hyperpolarizability value. Our survey reports the strongest NLO responses found in PhNH2-B12N12-PhCN cluster (1882.47 × 10-30 esu), whereas centrosymmetric B12N12 cluster yields a zero hyperpolarizability value. Designed systems are analyzed through the HOMO-LUMO gap, frontier molecular orbital, hyperpolarizability, Δr index, transition dipole moment density, density of states (DOS), and molecular electrostatic potential. The obtained results are well correlated with the computed absorption spectra of the molecule. The results demonstrate that phenyl ring incorporated D-A groups amplify the NLO response to a larger extent. The significant first hyperpolarizability arises due to charge transfer from the donor to the acceptor moiety. As a whole, this theoretical work provides a direction to researchers that the right choice of substitution can considerably impact the nonlinear optical property of BN nanoclusters.

Abstract
For the first time in the present study, we studied the adsorption effect of the Solriamfetol
(SOF) on the electronic and optical properties of B12N12 fullerene using density functional theory
(DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations with the M062X/6-
311++G(d,p) level of theory in the solvent water. The calculated adsorption energies of SOF drug with
the B12N12 fullerene were computed at T= 298.15 K with the M062X functional. The UV/Vis absorption
spectra were computed and investigated for the study of the significant changes in interactions between
SOF and B12N12 fullerene. The IR spectra were also calculated and investigated. The calculated
results indicate that the adsorption of the SOF drug from its internal NH2 group on the B12N12 fullerene
(configuration B) has the most chemical stability rather than configuration A and C. According to the
NBO results, the SOF molecule and B12N12 fullerene are identified as both electrons donor and acceptor
at the complexes B12N12-SOF. On the other hand, the charge transfer occurs between the bonding,
anti-bonding, or nonbonding orbitals in the SOF drug and B12N12 fullerene. It is found that the applied
B12N12 fullerene can be suitable as a drug carrier for the delivery of SOF as a drug for the treatment of
excessive sleepiness.

Abstract
Using the SAPT2 + 3(CCD)δMP2 method in complete basis set (CBS) limit, it is shown that the interactions in the recently studied silane⋯carbene dimers are mainly dispersive in nature. Consequently, slow convergence of dispersion energy also forces slow convergence of the interaction energy. Therefore, obtaining very accurate values requires extrapolation of the correlation part to the CBS limit. The most accurate values obtained at the CCSD(T)/CBS level of theory show that the studied silane⋯carbene dimers are rather weakly bound, with interaction energies ranging from about -1.9 to -1.3 kcal/mol. Comparing to CCSD(T)/CBS, it will be shown that SCS-MP2 and MP2C methods clearly underestimate and methods based on SAPT2+ and having some third-order corrections, as well as the MP2 method, overestimate values of interaction energies. Popular SAPT(DFT) method performs better than SCS-MP2 and MP2C; nevertheless, underestimation is still considerable. The underestimation is slightly quenched if third-order dispersion energy and its exchange counterpart is added to the SAPT(DFT). The closest value of CCSD(T)/CBS has been given by the SAPT2 + (3)(CCD)δMP2 method in quadruple-ζ basis set. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract
Boron nitride is a material similar to carbon in its ability to adopt numerous molecular forms, including two-dimensional sheets and three-dimensional cages and nanotubes. Boron nitride single molecules, such as B12N12, have isomeric forms that include rings and sheets, as well as cage forms analogous and isoelectronic to the carbon fullerenes. Such cages tend to be composed of squares and hexagons to allow perfect alternation of boron and nitrogen atoms, which is possible because of the 1 : 1 ratio of boron-to-nitrogen atoms. What about molecules in which this 1 : 1 ratio does not apply? In the current study, theoretical calculations are carried out on molecules of B10N14 to determine energetically favorable isomers. Density functional theory is used in conjunction with Dunning basis sets. Cage, sheet, and ring isomers are considered. Energetic trends are calculated and discussed, in comparison to comparable studies on B12N12.

Abstract
Despite massive efforts to pinpoint the substituent effects in the so-called cationπ systems, no consensus has been yet reached on how substituents exercise their effects in the interaction of the aromatic molecule with the metal ion. The π-polarization (the Hunter model) and the direct local effect (the Wheeler-Houk model) are two lines of thought applied to this problem, but the justification of both approaches is based on insufficiently proven assumptions and approximations. In order to shed more light on this issue we propose a new approach which enables us to gauge directly the energetic trends resulting from the interaction of the ring with the cation. In our method we add one more partitioning level to the interacting quantum atoms (IQA) scheme and decompose the IQA interaction energies into contributions resulting from σ and π electron densities of the aromatic ring. The new approach, which is named partitioned-IQA, abbreviated as p-IQA, has been applied to complexes of derivatives of benzene or azaborine interacting with a sodium cation. The p-IQA approach reveals that in these systems both σ and π electronic moieties are polarized. Interestingly, for the majority of cases the σ-polarization outweighs the π one, contrary to the Hunter model. However, the Wheeler-Houk model is not precise, either, since the σ-polarization shows some degree of non-locality. In addition, the substituents are found to have a negligible influence on the ring orbital-overlapping capability, i.e. the covalency. Therefore, the substituent effect in the cationπ interaction is a nonlocal classical effect, indicating that neither Hunter model nor Wheeler-Houk model is able to fully describe all the aspects of the substituent effects. The p-IQA conclusions for the considered systems have been compared with the results from the functional-group SAPT (F-SAPT) method. We believe that the presented partitioning in the IQA framework will provide a deeper insight into the substituent effects in the cationπ interactions, which is beyond the σ-π atomic charge population separation.

Abstract
Third and fifth group atoms, named triel and pnicogen, respectively, were used for graphene doping. AlP and AlN structures were selected as co-doped graphene-based catalysts. The electronic structure and catalytic properties of binary AlN, AlP co-doped graphene were investigated through density functional theory (DFT). Results show that the AlP co-doped graphene strictly enhances the oxygen reactivity compared to AlN one. The CO oxidation on AlP and AlN co-doped graphene sheets is mainly done through Eley-Rideal mechanism as follows: CO + O2➔CO2 + Oads and CO + Oads➔ CO2. The CO oxidation reaction paths over the AlN and AlP-co-doped graphene have revealed that they can be regarded as the competent catalyst for CO oxidation in the presence of O2. Mechanistically, both AlP and AlN co-doped graphene catalysts are appropriately active in the first step while the second step is too hard to do regarding the multi-center covalency character between O2 and AlP co-doped graphene and hence its catalytic efficiency is significantly lower compared to AlN co-doped graphene sheet. Thus, the substitution of a C-C bond with Al-N is an effective way to design the graphene-based catalysts for CO oxidation.

Abstract
The reaction mechanism of (E)-methyl 3-(2-aminophenyl)acrylate (A) with phenylisothiocyanate (B) as well as the vital roles of substrate A and solvent water were investigated under unassisted, water-assisted, substrate A-assisted, and water-A-assisted conditions. The reaction proceeds with four processes via nucleophilic addition, deprotonation and protonation, intramolecular cyclization with hydrogen transfer, and keto-enol tautomerization. According to the different H-shift mode, two possible types of H-shift P1 and P2 are carefully investigated to identify the most preferred pathway, differing in the NH2 group deprotonation and CH group of A protonation processes. It is found that substrate A and water not only act as reactant and solvent, but also as catalyst, proton shuttle, and stabilizer in effectively lowering the energy barrier. Therefore, the results demonstrate that the strong donating and accepting ability of NH2 group on A and the presence of bulk water are the keys to the title reaction proceed. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
