Abstract
A highly efficient synthesis of 7-vinyl-6,7-dihydro-4H-furo[3,4-c]pyran derivatives from 2-butene-1,4-diols and 2-(1-alkynyl)-2-alken-1-ones has been achieved with high regio- and diastereoselectivity (dr > 20:1) by Pd-catalyzed tandem heterocyclization/cross-coupling. The π-allyl palladium species Int II generated from 2-butene-1,4-diol by direct cleavage of the C-OH bond is the key to the success in this formal (3 + 3) cycloaddition reaction.

Abstract
We report examples of C(sp2 )-N, C(sp2 )-S, and C(sp2 )-P bond-forming transformations in water microdroplets at room temperature and atmospheric pressure using N2 as a nebulizing gas. When an aqueous solution of vinylic acid and amine is electrosprayed (+3 kV), the corresponding C(sp2 )-N product is formed in a single step, which was characterized using mass spectrometry (MS) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS2 ). The scope of this reaction was extended to other amines and other unsaturated acids, including acrylic (CH2 =CHCOOH) and crotonic (CH3 CH=CHCOOH) acids. We also found that thiols and phosphines are viable nucleophiles, and the corresponding C(sp2 )-S and C(sp2 )-P products are observed in positive ion mode using MS and MS2 .

Abstract
Allylic amination is a powerful tool for constructing N-allylic amines widely found in bioactive molecules. Generally, allylic alcohols and unsaturated hydrocarbons have been considered for allylic amination reactions to minimize waste production. Herein, we present an iridium-catalysed method for reductive allylic amination of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with amines to afford N-allylic amines under air conditions. This protocol is demonstrated to provide products from many substrates (41 examples) in moderate-to-excellent yields. This synthetic methodology is also highlighted by the synthesis of drug molecules, optically pure products, as well as scale-up experiments.

Abstract
Silyl carbamates, latent pronucleophile surrogates of carbamates, undergo allylation using allylic fluorides in the presence of common Lewis base catalysts. The reactions are rendered enantioselective in the presence of chiral Lewis base catalysts and produce suitably protected derivatives of enantioenriched chiral β-amino acids. The design of the latent pronucleophile featuring both a silyl group and an electron-deficient carbamate is instrumental in lowering the nucleophilicity of nitrogen and enabling enantioselective allylation in the presence of chiral cinchona alkaloid-based catalysts.

Abstract
The impact of cationic and Lewis acidic functional groups installed in the primary or secondary coordination sphere (PCS or SCS) of an (electro)catalyst is known to vary depending on the precise positioning of those groups. However, it is difficult to systematically probe the effect of that position. In this report, we probe the effect of the functional group position and identity on the observed reduction potentials (Ep,c) using substituted iron clusters, [Fe4N(CO)11R]n, where R = NO+, PPh2-CH2CH2-9BBN, (MePTA+)2, (MePTA+)4, and H+ and n = 0, -1, +1, or +3 (9-BBN is 9-borabicyclo(3.3.1)nonane; MePTA+ is 1-methyl-1-azonia-3,5-diaza-7-phosphaadamantane). The cationic NO+ and H+ ligands cause anodic shifts of 700 and 320 mV, respectively, in Ep,c relative to unsubstituted [Fe4N(CO)12]-. Infrared absorption band data, νCO, suggests that some of the 700 mV shift by NO+ results from electronic changes to the cluster core. This contrasts with the effects of cationic MePTA+ and H+ which cause primarily electrostatic effects on Ep,c. Lewis acidic 9-BBN in the SCS had almost no effect on Ep,c.

Abstract
The development of efficient catalytic reactions with excellent atom and step economy employing sustainable catalysts is highly sought-after in chemical synthesis to reduce the negative effects on the environment. The most commonly-used strategy to construct allylic compounds relies on the transition-metal-catalysed nucleophilic substitution reaction of allylic alcohol derivatives. These syntheses exhibit good yield and selectivity, albeit at the expense of toxic and expensive catalysts and extra steps. In this paper, we report a transition-metal-free arylation and alkenylation reaction between unprotected allylic alcohols and boronic acids. The reactions were performed with B(C6F5)3 as the catalyst in toluene, and corresponding products were obtained in 23-92% yields. The reaction has mild conditions, scalability, excellent atom and step economy.

Abstract
A method for regioselective palladium-catalyzed allylic alkylation of ambident nitrogen heterocycles, employing simple allylic alcohols as electrophile precursors, is described. An organoboron co-catalyst serves both to activate the azole-type nucleophile toward selective N-functionalization and to accelerate the formation of a π-allylpalladium complex from the allylic alcohol. The method can be applied to various heterocycle types, including 1,2,3- and 1,2,4-triazoles, tetrazoles, pyrazoles, and purines, and can be extended to substituted allylic alcohol partners.

Abstract
The primary phosphines MesPH2 and tBuPH2 react with 9‐iodo‐m‐carborane yielding B9‐connected secondary carboranylphosphines 1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PHR (R=2,4,6‐Me3C6H2 (Mes; 1
a), tBu (1
b)). Addition of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (BCF) to 1
a, b resulted in the zwitterionic compounds 1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PHR(p‐C6F4)BF(C6F5)2 (2
a, b) through nucleophilic para substitution of a C6F5 ring followed by fluoride transfer to boron. Further reaction with Me2SiHCl prompted a H−F exchange yielding the zwitterionic compounds 1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PHR(p‐C6F4)BH(C6F5)2 (3
a, b). The reaction of 2
a, b with one equivalent of R'MgBr (R’=Me, Ph) gave the extremely water‐sensitive frustrated Lewis pairs 1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PR(p‐C6F4)B(C6F5)2 (4
a, b). Hydrolysis of the B−C6F4 bond in 4
a, b gave the first tertiary B‐carboranyl phosphines with three distinct substituents, 1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PR(p‐C6F4H) (5
a, b). Deprotonation of the zwitterionic compounds 2
a, b and 3
a, b formed anionic phosphines [1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PR(p‐C6F4)BX(C6F5)2]−[DMSOH]+ (R=Mes, X=F (6
a), R=tBu, X=F (6
b); R=Mes, X=H (7
a), R=tBu, X=H (7
b)). Reaction of 2
a, b with an excess of Grignard reagents resulted in the addition of R’ at the boron atom yielding the anions [1,7‐H2C2B10H9‐9‐PR(p‐C6F4)BR’(C6F5)2]− (R=Mes, R’=Me (8
a), R=tBu, R’=Me (8
b); R=Mes, R’=Ph (9
a), R=tBu, R’=Ph (9
b)) with [MgBr(Et2O)n]+ as counterion. The ability of the zwitterionic compounds 3
a, b to hydrogenate imines as well as the Brønsted acidity of 3
a were investigated.

Abstract
A Pd(OAc)2/P(OPh)3 combination catalyzed Tsuji-Trost-type allylic amination under aerobic conditions. Both aromatic and aliphatic secondary amines were transformed into the corresponding allylic amines with a tiny amount of the catalyst system (typically 0.02 mol % Pd), only when allylic phosphates were employed as electrophiles. Other typical electrophiles, such as allylic acetate and carbonate, were marginally reactive. A Pd(0) complex, Pd[P(OPh)3]3, formed in situ was suggested as an active species by mechanistic experiments.

Abstract
Amination of allylic alcohols is an effective approach in the facile synthesis of N-allylic alkylation or N-alkylation amines. Recently, a series of catalysts were devised to push forward this transformation. However, current synthetic methods are typically limited to achieve either N-allylic alkylation or N-alkylation products via a certain catalyst. In this article, a pH-mediated selective synthesis of N-allylic alkylation or N-alkylation amines with allylic alcohols via an iridium catalyst with water as the environmental benign solvent is revealed, enabling the miscellaneous synthesis of N-allylic alkylation and N-alkylation products in outstanding yields. Furthermore, a gram-scale experiment with low catalyst loading offers the potential to access a distinct entry for the synthesis of the antifungal drug naftifine.

Abstract
There is a significant need to develop more rapid and efficient routes to styrene derivatives, since they are extensively used in polymer sciences. This manuscript reports a one-pot synthesis of an array of α-alkyl styrene derivatives from readily available natural products (i.e., estragole and safrole). This method is regioselective, producing a rearranged adduct, under transition metal-free conditions. This methodology has broad nucleophile scope, even tolerating sterically hindered nucleophiles; it is general for carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur nucleophiles.

Abstract
Allylamines have long been recognized as valuable synthons because of their excellent reactivity in organic synthesis. Here, an efficient amination reaction of allenyl ethers via copper/Lewis acid synergistic catalysis has been established, providing straightforward access to diverse functionalized Z-oxalylamines and E -halogenated oxalylamines in good to excellent yields with high regio- and stereoselectivities. The developed method tolerates more than 100 examples that include late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules, and features gram-scale synthesis of oxalylamines with high turnover number (TON > 1000) under mild and simple conditions. The applicability of the protocol is further demonstrated with the construction of drug molecules.

Abstract
Four lithium phosphine borohydride compounds featuring phenyl and naphthyl linkers have been synthesized. In-depth NMR analysis affords evidence for non-bonded through space P-B coupling. Reactivity towards CO2 leads to LiH transfer and to the quantitative formation of the corresponding ambiphilic phosphine-borane products.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of privileged allylic amines has been developed via cobalt-catalyzed allylation of amides with styrenes, in which DMSO was used as both the solvent and the α-methylene source. This transformation features high yields, and selectivity for the (E)-isomer of the linear product. Through the experimental and computational investigations, a sequential K2S2O8-mediated oxidative coupling/cobalt-assisted regioselective alkene insertion/β-H elimination/alkene dissociation/hydride transfer process has also been deduced.

Abstract
In recent years, transition metal catalysts have been increasingly employed in conjunction with Brønsted acids under one-pot reaction conditions, opening up newer avenues for dual catalytic protocols. Under such dual catalytic conditions, the general premise of holding the native ligands on the catalyst in the same manner throughout the catalytic cycle becomes immediately questionable. We have invoked the likelihood of Serial Ligand Catalysis in an important intramolecular allylic amination of N-Boc (N-tert-butoxycarbonyl) protected homoallylic amine leading to an anti-oxazolidinone product. The reported reaction conditions employed (bis-sulfoxide)Pd(OAc)2 and dibutyl phosphoric acid (DBPOH) as the catalysts and benzoquinone (BQ) as the oxidant. We used density functional theory computations at the B3LYP-D3 level of theory to examine a comprehensive set of ligand combinations around the Pd center so as to identify the energetically most preferred pathway. The key catalytic events consist of (i) a C-H activation at the allylic position in the catalyst-substrate complex [Pd(L)(L')2(substrate)], leading to a (L)(L')Pd-π-allyl intermediate, and (ii) an intramolecular C-O bond formation between the carbonyl oxygen of the N-Boc amine and the allyl carbon. Interesting cooperativity between the catalysts in both these steps has been found, wherein the Pd(DBPO-)2(BS) species is involved in the C-H activation transition state and Pd(DBPO-)(BQ) in the C-O bond formation step. The energetic advantage in swapping the bis-sulfoxide ligand on Pd with a benzoquinone upon moving from the first step to the second step confirms the significance of serial ligand catalysis in dual catalytic reactions.

Abstract
Tertiary allylic alcohols were conveniently converted into either (Z)- or (E)-configured α,β-unsaturated γ-amino acids by treatment with secondary amines under Pd catalysis at ambient conditions. The key to control the stereochemical course of these formal allylic aminations was the presence of a suitable diphosphine ligand, with dppp [1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, L12] providing high yields and selectivities for the (Z) isomers, whereas the bis[(2-diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether (DPEPhos) derivative L1' allowed for selective formation of the corresponding (E) isomeric products. This ligand-controlled, stereodivergent protocol thus shows promise for the stereoselective preparation of allylic amine products from a common substrate precursor.

Abstract
There is significant interest in developing more rapid and efficient production of nitrogen-containing allylic compounds, as widely used in various syntheses. This work reports a variety of allylic azides and allylic amines synthesized by an efficient, new one-pot protocol that employs readily available terminal alkenes as starting materials. This method is highly regio- and stereoselective, affording the linear (E)-isomer, under metal-free conditions. This process tolerates several functional groups including halogen-containing molecules; it is general for azides and amine nucleophiles; and, adducts were obtained in good yields.

Abstract
Tertiary allylic alcohols equipped with a carboxyl group can be smoothly aminated under ambient conditions by a conceptually new and stereoselective protocol under palladium catalysis. The in situ formed Z-configured γ-amino acid cyclizes to afford an α,β-unsaturated γ-lactam, releasing water as the only byproduct. This practical catalytic transformation highlights the use of a carboxyl group acting as an activating and stereodirecting functional group to provide a wide series of pharma-relevant building blocks. Various control reactions support the crucial role of the carboxyl group in the substrate to mediate these transformations.

Abstract
Amination of allylic alcohols is facilitated via cooperative catalysis. Catalytic Ti(O- i-Pr)4 is shown to dramatically increase the rate of nickel-catalyzed allylic amination, and mechanistic experiments confirm activation of the allylic alcohol by titanium. Aminations of primary and secondary allylic alcohols are demonstrated with a variety of amine nucleophiles. Diene-containing substrates also cyclize onto the nickel allyl intermediate prior to amination, generating carbocyclic amine products. This tandem process is only achieved under our cooperative catalytic system.

Abstract
The preparation of allylic amines is traditionally accomplished by reactions of amines with reactive electrophiles, such as allylic halides, sulfonates, or oxyphosphonium species; such methods involve hazardous reagents, generate stoichiometric waste streams, and often suffer from side reactions (such as overalkylation). We report here the first broad-scope nickel-catalysed direct amination of allyl alcohols: An inexpensive NiII /Zn couple enables the allylation of primary, secondary, and electron-deficient amines without the need for glove-box techniques. Under mild conditions, primary and secondary aliphatic amines react smoothly with a range of allyl alcohols, giving secondary and tertiary amines efficiently. This "totally catalytic" method can also be applied to electron-deficient nitrogen nucleophiles; the practicality of the process was demonstrated in an efficient, gram-scale preparation of the calcium antagonist drug substance flunarizine (Sibelium®).

Abstract
Lewis basic substrates, such as vinylphosphines and enamines, can be problematic for transition-metal catalysed hydrofunctionalization reactions due to their propensity to ligate and deactivate transition-metal catalysts as well as form direct Lewis adducts with reaction partners. While exploring rhodium-catalyzed hydroboration of diphenylvinylphosphine with pinacolborane, we found that a high degree of regiocontrol could be achieved without the need to diminish the Lewis basicity of the phosphine by oxidation or prior-protection. At slightly elevated temperature, a high yield of the previously unreported branched regioisomer, 1-pinacolatoborono-1-diphenylphosphinoethane, was achieved with regioselectivity greater than 10 : 1 using [Rh(COD)Cl]2 as the catalyst and AgOTf as a catalytic additive. Inversion of regioselectivity occurred at low temperature and high yield of the linear regioisomer was observed. Subsequent functionalization of the new branched phosphine-boronic ester and its coordination to rhodium were also investigated.
