Abstract
Reaction of tetraphenyl-21-thiaporphyrin (HSTPP) with cobalt salt yields a pentacoordinated high-spin 3/2 [CoIICl(STTP)] (1). Through ion exchange, a roughly square-planar-geometry low-spin 1/2 CoIISTTP(BArF24) (2) complex was isolated. These two paramagnetic precursors were examined by single X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance, superconducting quantum interference device, and density functional theory calculations. These two allowed the development of one electron reduction and oxidation to give [CoI(STTP)] (3), [CoIII(STTP)Cl(CH3CN)](BF4) (4), and [CoIII(STTP)Cl2] (5). The products of the chemical redox reactions were isolated and fully characterized. In addition, the reactivity of [CoIICl(STTP)] (1) was examined by azide (N3), cyanate (OCN), and thiocyanate (SCN) and featured a preferential N-coordination to the cobalt metal.

Abstract
The reaction between silylamido complexes of Cr(II), Fe(II), and Co(II) and IMes·2HF salt in the presence of IMes (IMes = 1,3-dimesitylimidazol-2-ylidene) led to isolation of Cr(IMes)2F2 (2-Cr), Fe(IMes)2F2 (2-Fe), and Co(IMes)2F2 (2-Co). X-ray structural studies revealed that 2-Cr adopts square planar geometry, while 2-Fe and 2-Co have distorted tetrahedral geometry. Magnetic susceptibility studies of 2-Cr, 2-Fe, and 2-Co were consistent with high-spin complexes, S = 2 for 2-Cr/2-Fe and S = 3/2 for 2-Co. We demonstrated that fluoride can be successfully exchanged for cyanide and azide using trimethylsilyl cyanide and trimethylsilyl azide (3-Fe and 4-Fe). DFT studies suggest that the preference of 2-Cr to adopt square planar geometry over tetrahedral is due to its d4 metal center, where four electrons fill the lower-lying d-orbitals.

Abstract
Adding to the versatile class of ionic liquids, we report the detailed structure and property analysis of a new class of asymmetrically substituted imidazolium salts, offering interesting thermal characteristics, such as liquid crystalline behavior, polymorphism or glass transitions. A scalable general synthetic procedure for N‐polyaryl‐N’‐alkyl‐functionalized imidazolium salts with para‐substituted linker (L) moieties at the aryl chain, namely [LPhmImHR]+ (L=Br, CN, SMe, CO2Et, OH; m=2, 3; R=C12, PEGn; n=2, 3, 4), was developed. These imidazolium salts were studied by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction (SC‐XRD), NMR spectroscopy and thermochemical methods (DSC, TGA). Furthermore, these imidazolium salts were used as N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand precursors for mononuclear, first‐row transition metal complexes (MnII, FeII, CoII, NiII, ZnII, CuI, AgI, AuI) and for the dinuclear Ti‐supported Fe‐NHC complex [(OPy)2Ti(OPh2ImC12)2(FeI2)] (OPy=pyridin‐2‐ylmethanolate). The complexes were studied concerning their structural and magnetic behavior via multi‐nuclear NMR spectroscopy, SC‐XRD analyses, variable temperature and field‐dependent (VT‐VF) SQUID magnetization methods, X‐band EPR spectroscopy and, where appropriate, zero‐field 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy.

Abstract
Iron-nitrosyls have fascinated chemists for a long time due to the noninnocent nature of the NO ligand that can exist in up to five different oxidation and spin states. Coordination to an open-shell iron center leads to complex electronic structures, which is the reason Enemark-Feltham introduced the {Fe-NO}n notation. In this work, we succeeded in characterizing a series of {Fe-NO}6-9 complexes, including a reactive {Fe-NO}10 intermediate. All complexes were synthesized with the tris-N-heterocyclic carbene ligand tris[2-(3-mesitylimidazol-2-ylidene)ethyl]amine (TIMENMes), which is known to support iron in high and low oxidation states. Reaction of NOBF4 with [(TIMENMes)Fe]2+ resulted in formation of the {Fe-NO}6 compound [(TIMENMes)Fe(NO)(CH3CN)](BF4)3 (1). Stepwise chemical reduction with Zn, Mg, and Na/Hg leads to the isostructural series of high-spin iron nitrosyl complexes {Fe-NO}7,8,9 (2-4). Reduction of {Fe-NO}9 with Cs electride finally yields the highly reduced {Fe-NO}10 intermediate, key to formation of [Cs(crypt-222)][(TIMENMes)Fe(NO)], (5) featuring a metalacyclic [Fe-(NO-NHC)3-] nitrosoalkane unit. All complexes were characterized by single-crystal XRD analyses, temperature and field-dependent SQUID magnetization methods, as well as 57Fe Mössbauer, IR, UV/vis, multinuclear NMR, and dual-mode EPR spectroscopy. Spectroscopy-based DFT analyses provide insight into the electronic structures of all compounds and allowed assignments of oxidation states to iron and NO ligands. An alternative synthesis to the {Fe-NO}8 complex was found via oxygenation of the nitride complex [(TIMENMes)Fe(N)](BF4). Surprisingly, the resulting {Fe-NO}8 species is electronically and structural similar to the [(TIMENMes)Fe(N)]+ precursor. Based on the structural and electronic similarities between this nitrosyl/nitride complex couple, we adopted the strategy, developed by Wieghardt et al., of extending the Enemark-Feltham nomenclature to nitrido complexes, rendering [(TIMENMes)Fe(N)]+ as a {Fe-N}8 species.

Abstract
An imino bipyridine cobalt(II) complex was developed for the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to formate in acetonitrile with a faradaic efficiency of approximately 80 %. For comparison, a symmetric bis-imino pyridine complex showed lower catalytic activity because of less conjugation in the system. Cyclic voltammetry, electron paramagnetic resonance and IR spectroscopy studies provided mechanistic details and the structures of the key intermediates. DFT calculations confirmed the role of large π-conjugated groups for stabilizing key intermediates through electronic conjugation.

Abstract
Thermal or photolytic activation of well-defined mononuclear [Co(N3)(PNP)] (PNP = 2,2'-bis(diisopropylphosphino)-4,4'-ditolylamido) results in the structurally characterized dinuclear species [Co(μ-N;κ3-P,N,N-PNPN)]2 (3), with two N-bridging phosphiniminato bridgeheads. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations indicate the intermediacy of a mononuclear cobalt-nitrido complex, followed by N-migratory insertion into a Co-P bond. Reaction of 3 with two equiv. HCl leads to rupture of the dimer with formation of mononuclear [CoCl(PNPNH)] (4) by protonation of the N-bridges.

Abstract
Development of CCC-NHC pincer Co complexes via transmetalation from Zr is reported. Formation of these air-stable Co(iii) complexes was achieved through use of a CoCl2 or Co(acac)3in situ or with a discrete CCC-NHC pincer Zr transmetallating agent. Preliminary activity in the hydroboration of styrene is reported. This facile methodology will further the development of CCC-NHC pincer first-row transition metal complexes.
