Abstract
The stereoselective total synthesis of siladenoserinols A and D has been accomplished using carbohydrate as a chiral template. The feature of this work is to build the medicinally privileged 6,8-DOBCO scaffold through a cascade reaction of hydrogenation/deacetalization/ketalization in a one-pot process, that is, to take advantage of a thermodynamically controlled bicyclization of polyhydroxyketone under HCl/MeOH reaction conditions. The current cost-effective synthetic strategy could facilitate the bioactivity investigation of siladenoserinols.

Abstract
Substituted pyranones and tetrahydropyrans are structural subunits of many bioactive natural products. Considerable efforts are devoted toward the chemical synthesis of these natural products due to their therapeutic potential as well as low natural abundance. These embedded pyranones and tetrahydropyran structural motifs have been the subject of synthetic interest over the years. While there are methods available for the syntheses of these subunits, there are issues related to regio and stereochemical outcomes, as well as versatility and compatibility of reaction conditions and functional group tolerance. The Achmatowicz reaction, an oxidative ring enlargement of furyl alcohol, was developed in the 1970s. The reaction provides a unique entry to a variety of pyranone derivatives from functionalized furanyl alcohols. These pyranones provide convenient access to substituted tetrahydropyran derivatives. This review outlines general approaches to the synthesis of tetrahydropyrans, covering general mechanistic aspects of the Achmatowicz reaction or rearrangement with an overview of the reagents utilized for the Achmatowicz reaction. The review then focuses on the synthesis of functionalized tetrahydropyrans and pyranones and their applications in the synthesis of natural products and medicinal agents.

Abstract
Starting from the conveniently available ex-chiral pool building block (R,R)-hexa-1,5-diene-3,4-diol, the ten-membered ring lactones stagonolide E and curvulide A were synthesized using a bidirectional olefin-metathesis functionalization of the terminal double bonds. Key steps are (i) a site-selective cross metathesis, (ii) a highly diastereoselective extended tethered RCM to furnish a (Z,E)-configured dienyl carboxylic acid and (iii) a Ru-lipase-catalyzed dynamic kinetic resolution to establish the desired configuration at C9. Ring closure was accomplished by macrolactonization. Curvulide A was synthesized from stagonolide E through Sharpless epoxidation.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective desymmetrization of meso cyclopent-2-ene-1,4-diethyl dicarbonates has been developed using a Rh-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution. Depending on the type of ligand used, each of two regioisomeric products can be obtained in good yield and excellent enantioselectivity. Under rhodium(I) catalysis, bisphosphine P-Phos ligands form trans-1,2-arylcyclopentenols as the major product, whereas Segphos ligands lead predominantly to trans-1,4-arylcyclopentenols.

Abstract
The synthesis of didemniserinolipid B utilizing a ketalization/ring-closing metathesis (K/RCM) strategy is described. In the course of this work, a novel 2-allyl-4-fluorophenyl auxiliary for relay ring-closing metathesis (RRCM) was developed, which increased the yield of the RCM. The resulting 6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octene core was selectively functionalized by complimentary dihydroxylation and epoxidation routes to install the C10 axial alcohol. This bicyclic ketal core was further functionalized by etherification and an alkene cross metathesis with an unsaturated alpha-phenylselenyl ester en route to completing the total synthesis.
