Abstract
The syntheses and crystal structures of a triazolium salt, 4-benzyl-1-ethyl-1,2,4-triazolium bromide, C11H14N3 +·Br- (2), and the corresponding N-heterocyclic carbene complexes, (4-benzyl-1-ethyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl-idene)chlorido-[(1,2,5,6-η)-cyclo-octa-1,5-diene]rhodium(I), [RhCl(C8H12)(C11H13N3)] (3), (4-benzyl-1-ethyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl-idene)[(1,2,5,6-η)-cyclo-octa-1,5-diene](tri-phenyl-phosphane)iridium(I) tetra-fluorido-borate, [Ir(C8H12)(C11H13N3)(C18H15P)]BF4 (5), and (4-benzyl-1-ethyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl-idene)[(1,2,5,6-η)-cyclo-octa-1,5-diene](tri-cyclo-hexyl-phosphane)iridium(I) tetra-fluorido-borate dicholoro-methane sesquisolvate, [Ir(C8H12)(C11H13N3)(C18H33P)]BF4·1.5CH2Cl2 (6), are presented. Complexes 2 and 6 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/c, complex 3 in the triclinic space group P1 and complex 5 in the triclinic space group P1 with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The three metal complexes 3, 5, and 6 have a distorted square-planar geometry around the metal ions. The N1-C1-N3 bond angle in the triazolium salt 2 is 107.1 (2)° and is observed in the range of 102.2 (3) to 103.8 (5)° in the NHC ligands in complexes 3, 5, and 6. The two substituent 'wing tips' in the NHC ligand (N-ethyl and N-benz-yl) are oriented in an anti-arrangement in compounds 2 and 3, a syn-arrangement in compound 6, and both syn and anti-arrangements in the two independent ion pairs in compound 5. All structures exhibit non-classical hydrogen-bonding inter-actions with the most acidic hydrogen atoms in complexes 2 and 3 playing critical roles in the orientations of structural units.

Abstract
A new triazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene IrI cationic complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion and hemi-solvating di-chloro-methane, [Ir(C8H12)(C8H15N3)(C18H15P)]BF4·0.5CH2Cl2, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. There are two independent ion pairs in the asymmetric unit and one di-chloro-methane solvent mol-ecule per two ion pairs. The cationic complex exhibits a distorted square-planar conformation around the IrI atom, formed by a bidentate cyclo-octa-1,5,diene (COD) ligand, a tri-phenyl-phosphane ligand, and an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC). There are several close non-standard H⋯F hydrogen-bonding inter-actions that orient the tetra-fluorido-borate anions with respect to the IrI complex mol-ecules. The complex shows promising catalytic activity in transfer hydrogenation reactions. The structure was refined as a non-merohedral twin, and one of the COD mol-ecules is statistically disordered.

Abstract
A new, cationic N-heterocyclic carbene RhI complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion, [Rh(C8H12)(C8H15N3)(C18H15P)]BF4, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. There are two independent ion pairs in the asymmetric unit. Each complex cation exhibits a distorted square-planar conformation around the RhI atom. Bond lengths and bond angles are as expected for an Rh-NHC complex. There are several close, non-standard C-H⋯F hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the ions. One of the tetra-fluorido-borate anions shows statistical disorder of the F atoms.

Abstract
The title compound, [Ir(C8H12)(C8H15N3)(C18H15P)]BF4, a new triazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene iridium(I) cationic complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion, crystallizes with two cations and two anions in the asymmetric unit of space group Pc. The Ir centers of the cations have distorted square-planar conformations, formed by a bidentate (η2 + η2) cyclo-octa-1,5-diene (COD) ligand, an N-heterocyclic carbene and a tri-phenyl-phosphane ligand with the NHC carbon atom and P atom being cis. In the extended structure, non-classical C-H⋯F hydrogen bonds, one of which is notably short (H⋯F = 2.21 Å), link the cations and anions. The carbon atoms of one of the COD ligands are disordered over adjacent sites in a 0.62:0.38 ratio.

Abstract
The ambiphilic bicyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (Me/iPrBICAAC) upon reaction with [IrCl(COD)]2 smoothly afford mononuclear Ir(I) complexes that have been spectroscopically and structurally characterized. These complexes exhibit good catalytic activity for transfer hydrogenation (TH) of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde using isopropyl alcohol (iPrOH), with turnover frequency values ranging between 6269 and 8093 h-1. Choosing the covalent complex Ir(MeBICAAC)Cl(COD) as a catalyst, a wide array of carbonyls and imines functionalized with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents have been surveyed and afforded their reduced products in moderate-to-good yields. No detachment of the BICAAC unit from the Ir center was observed upon prolonged heating of Ir(MeBICAAC)Cl(COD) in toluene-d8 or isopropyl alcohol-d8, which evidenced good thermal stability of the catalyst. Complex Ir(MeBICAAC)Cl(COD) was also found to be catalytically active for the hydrosilylation of a variety of aldehydes using triethylsilane (Et3SiH).

Abstract
Under conventional and silica-supported Muffle furnace methods, water-soluble substituted trimeric triaryl pyridinium cations with various inorganic counter anions are synthesized. The solvent-free synthesis method is superior to the conventional method in terms of non-toxicity, quicker reaction times, ease of workup, and higher yields. Trimeric substituted pyridinium salts acted as excellent catalytic responses for the preparation of Gem-bisamide derivatives compared with available literature. To evaluate the molecular docking, benzyl/4-nitrobenzyl substituted triaryl pyridinium salt compounds with VEGFR-2 kinase were used with H-bonds, π-π stacking, salt bridges, and hydrophobic contacts. The results showed that the VEGFR-2 kinase protein had the most potent inhibitory activity. Intriguingly, the compound [NBTAPy]PF6- had a strongly binds to VEGFR-2 kinase and controlled its activity in cancer treatment and prevention.

Abstract
A series of nitrile-modified N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of Ir(III) (2a-e) and Ru(II) (3a-d) have been prepared by transmetallation of [IrCp*Cl2]2 and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 forming an in situ NHC-Ag complex. The structures of all complexes were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopies. And the structures were clearly elucidated by performing X-ray diffraction studies on 2b, 3a, and 3c single crystals. The complexes of NHC-Ir(III) (2a-e) and NHC-Ru(II) (3a-d) were investigated in the N-alkylation reaction of aniline derivatives with benzyl alcohols to form N-benzyl amines and in the N-methylation reaction of aniline derivatives with methanol. Both reactions were performed in solvent-free media. The Ir(III) complexes (2a-e) were found to perform essentially better than similar Ru(II) complexes (3a-d) in the N-alkylation and N-methylation reactions. Among the Ir(III) complexes (2a-e), the best results were obtained with 2b. The catalytic mechanisms of both reactions were revealed by 1H NMR study. Formation of Ir-hydride species was observed for both reactions. This new report provides useful information to evaluate the activity of complexes and the differences in sensitivity between the NHCs.

A new triazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene iridium(I) cationic complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion, [Ir(C8H12)(C18H15P)(C6H11N3)]BF4·0.8CH2Cl2, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The central IrI atom of the cationic complex has a distorted square-planar coordination environment, formed by a bidentate cyclo-octa-1,5-diene (COD) ligand, an N-heterocyclic carbene, and a tri-phenyl-phosphane ligand. The crystal structure comprises C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions that orient the phenyl rings; non-classical hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the cationic complex and the tetra-fluorido-borate anion are also present. The complex crystallizes in a triclinic unit cell with two structural units and an incorporation of di-chloro-methane solvate mol-ecules with an occupancy of 0.8.

Abstract
A new triazole-based N-heterocyclic cationic carbene iridium(I) complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion, [Ir(C8H12)(C7H13N3)(C18H15P)]BF4, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The IrI atom of the cationic complex has an expected square-planar coordination environment with unexceptional bond lengths. There are several close F⋯H contacts between the cations and the anions in the range 2.36-2.58 Å, stabilizing the orientation of the out-sphere [BF4 -] counter-anion. In the crystal, C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions are observed that orient the phenyl rings of the tri-phenyl-phosphane ligands.

Abstract
A new N-heterocyclic cationic rhodium(I) complex with a tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion, [Rh(C8H14N2)(C8H12)(C18H15P)]BF4, has been prepared and structurally characterized. The cationic complex exhibits a distorted square-planar environment around the rhodium(I) ion. Two connections are made from rhodium(I) to the carbon atom of an N-heterocylic carbene ligand and to the phospho-rus atom of a tri-phenyl-phosphane ligand. The remaining two coordination sites are made via a bidentate inter-action from the two olefinic bonds of cyclo-octa-diene to the rhodium(I) ion. The compound includes an out-sphere tetra-fluorido-borate counter-anion. Within the crystal of the compound exist several weak inter-molecular C-H⋯F inter-actions.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are organic compounds that typically mimic the chemical properties of phosphines. NHCs have made a significant impact on the field of coordination and organometallic chemistry because they are easy to prepare and handle and because of their versatility and stability. Importantly, the physicochemical properties of NHCs can be easily fine-tuned by simple variation of substituents on the nitrogen atoms. Over the past few years, various NHC–metal complexes have been extensively used as metal-based drug candidates and catalysts (homogeneous or heterogeneous) for various applications. To help assist future work with these compounds, this review provides a thorough review on the latest information involving some biomedical applications of NHC–metal complexes. Specifically, this article focuses on recent advances in the design, synthesis, characterization and biomedical applications (e.g., antimicrobial and anticancer activity) of various NHC–metal complexes (metal: silver, gold, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and platinum) covering work published from 2015 to 2020. It is hoped that the promising discoveries to date will help accelerate studies on the encouraging potential of NHC–metal complexes as a class of effective therapeutic agents.

Abstract
The reaction of magnesium or zinc amides with alkyl or benzyl halides is an attractive approach to make C-N bonds, especially for electron-poor organic halides. The magnesium-promoted preparation of hindered non-nucleophilic amine (N,N-diisopropylethylamine) from ethyl chloride and zinc diisopropylamide has been studied. In this paper, instead of the application scope of this method, we focused on the mechanisms of the catalytic processes and the associated electronic origins. According to the calculations, the C-N coupling process in all selected systems proceed preferably in an ethylium-transfer mode. Further, rather than undergoing the Grignard reaction route, the more pronounced electronic interactions within the transition structure as induced by the "innocent" magnesium atom should be responsible for the observed high catalytic activity of the Mg/ZnCl2 combination.

Abstract
Dialkylation of the 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzene with ethyl bromide results in the formation of [L-H2]Br2 which, upon salt metathesis with NH4PF6, readily yields the bis(triazolium) salt [L-H2](PF6)2 with non-coordinating counterions. [L-H2](PF6)2 and Ag2O react in a 1 : 1 ratio to yield a binuclear AgI-tetracarbene complex of the composition [(L)2Ag2](PF6)2 which undergoes a facile transmetalation reaction with [Cu(SMe2)Br] to deliver the corresponding CuI-NHC complex [(L)2Cu2](PF6)2. In contrast, the [L-H2]Br2 reacts with [Ir(Cp*)Cl2]2 to generate a doubly C-H activated IrIII-NHC complex 5. Similarly, the triazolinylidene donor supported diorthometalated RuII-complex 6 is also obtained. Complexes 5 and 6 represent the first examples of a stable diorthometalated binuclear IrIII/RuII-complex supported by 1,2,4-triazolin-5-ylidene donors. The synthesized IrIII-NHC complex 5 is found to be more effective than its RuII-analogue (6) for the reduction of a range of alkenes/alkynes via the transfer hydrogenation strategy. Conversely, RuII-complex 6 is identified as an efficient catalyst (0.01 mol% loading) for the β-alkylation of a wide range of secondary alcohols using primary alcohols as alkylating partners via a borrowing hydrogen strategy.

Abstract
A series of ruthenium(ii) complexes with N-heterocyclic carbene ligands were successfully synthesized by transmetalation reactions between silver(i) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 in dichloromethane under Ar conditions. All new compounds were characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods. These ruthenium(ii)–NHC complexes were found to be efficient precatalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones by using 2-propanol as the hydrogen source in the presence of KOH as a co-catalyst. The antibacterial activity of ruthenium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes 3a–f was measured by disc diffusion method against Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Compounds 3d exhibited potential antibacterial activity against five bacterial species among the six used as indicator cells. The product 3e inhibits the growth of all the six tested microorganisms. Moreover, the antioxidant activity determination of these complexes 3a–f, using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) as reagent, showed that compounds 3b and 3d possess DPPH and ABTS antiradical activities. From a concentration of 1 mg ml−1, these two complexes presented a similar scavenging activity to that of the two used controls gallic acid (GA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). From a concentration of 10 mg ml−1, the percentage inhibition of complexes 3b and 3d was respectively 70% and 90%. In addition, these two Ru–NHC complexes exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Investigation of the anti-acetylcholinesterase activity of the studied complexes showed that compounds 3a, 3b, 3d and 3e exhibited good activity at 100 μg ml−1 and product 3d is the most active. In a cytotoxicity study the complexes 3 were evaluated against two human cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7. Both 3d and 3e complexes were found to be active against the tested cell lines showing comparable activity with examples in the literature. A series of ruthenium(ii) complexes with N-heterocyclic carbene ligands were successfully synthesized by transmetalation reactions between silver(i) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 in dichloromethane under Ar conditions.![]()

Abstract
This review summarises the most recent advances in Ir-NHC catalysis while revisiting all the classical reactions in which this type of catalyst has proved to be active. The influence of the ligand system and, in particular, the impact of the NHC ligand on the activity and selectivity of the reaction have been analysed, accompanied by an examination of the great variety of catalytic cycles hitherto reported. The reaction mechanisms so far proposed are described and commented on for each individual process. Moreover, some general considerations that attempt to explain the influence of the NHC from a mechanistic viewpoint are presented at the end of the review. The first sections are dedicated to the most widely explored reactions that use Ir-NHCs, i.e., hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation, for which a general overview that tries to compile all the Ir-NHC catalysts hitherto reported for these processes is provided. The next sections deal with hydrogen borrowing, hydrosilylation, water splitting, dehydrogenation (of alcohols, alkanes, aminoboranes and formic acid), hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE), signal amplification by reversible exchange and C-H bond functionalisation (silylation and borylation). The last section compiles a series of reactions somewhat less explored for Ir-NHC catalysts that include the hydroalkynylation of imines, hydroamination, diboration of olefins, hydrolysis and methanolysis of silanes, arylation of aldehydes with boronic acids, addition of aroyl chlorides to alkynes, visible light driven reactions, isomerisation of alkenes, asymmetric intramolecular allylic amination and reactions that employ heterometallic catalysts containing at least one Ir-NHC unit.
