Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Moderate and late preterm infants (MLPTI) (gestational age 32 0/7-36 6/7 weeks), are at risk for suboptimal growth. This study evaluated adherence to nutritional recommendations until 6 months corrected age (CA), growth until 2 years CA, and associations between nutritional intake and growth until 2 years CA. METHODS We prospectively collected nutritional intakes from 100 MLPTI during the first week of life and at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months CA. Anthropometry was assessed at birth, discharge, term age, and at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years CA. RESULTS On day 7, <40% reached nutritional recommendations. Thereafter, >80% reached protein recommendations until 6 months of life, but <60% reached energy recommendations. Weight z-scores increased from -0.44 at term-age to 0.59 at 3 months CA, but declined to -0.53 at 2 years CA on the TNO curves. No significant associations were found between nutritional intake and growth until 2 years CA. CONCLUSION No associations were demonstrated between nutritional intakes and growth until 2 years CA, despite not reaching recommended intakes. Despite high efforts to optimize growth, MLPTI find their own growth curve in the first 2 years of life. IMPACT This research is pioneering in identifying how nutrition influences growth in moderate and late preterm infants (MLPTI) up to 2 years corrected age (CA). MLPTI often do not meet the recommended protein and energy intake in their first week of life, suggesting that current guidelines might be too high. No association was demonstrated between nutritional intake and growth of MLPTI in the first 2 years of life. Initially, MLPTI show an increase in weight z-scores from term age up to 3 months CA but experience a decline in weight z-scores at 2 years CA, according to TNO growth charts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Previous studies have observed changes in fat and fat-free mass among preterm infants when compared to term-born infants. However, these studies have mainly focused on moderate or very preterm infants, with a scope limited to the first few years of life. We aimed to compare body composition in extremely preterm infants to term-born infants in early childhood. Additionally, we investigated whether early neonatal nutrition was associated with the distribution of fat- and fat-free mass in later life. METHODS The study used dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry to evaluate the body composition of 52 children aged 6-9-years, of whom 35 were born extremely preterm and 17 were born at term and was analyzed using multivariate linear regression. Nutritional intakes of fluids, energy, and macronutrients during the first eight postnatal weeks for 26 extremely preterm infants were investigated in relation to body composition at age 6-9 years using Bayesian regression analysis and Gradient Boosting Machine. RESULTS Children born extremely preterm had smaller head circumference (confidence interval -8.7 to -1.7), shorter height (confidence interval -2.7 to -0.6), higher waist to height ratio (confidence interval 0.01-0.05) and lower fat-free mass (confidence interval -3.9 to -0.49), compared to children born at full-term. Children born extremely preterm had a differing response to amount of fluid and macronutrient intake for both fat mass index and fat-free mass index. A bimodal response showed high intake of fluid and macronutrients as associated with high fat mass index for some children, whereas others demonstrated an inverse association, suggesting analysis on cohort-level as problematic. CONCLUSIONS Childhood body composition differs between extremely preterm infants and term-born infants. Extremely preterm infants display differing responses in their body composition to varying levels of fluids and macronutrient intake during the neonatal period.

Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to explore the associations of growth and body composition with gut microbiome and metabolome in preterm infants. Materials and Methods: A prospective cohort study including 73 human milk-fed very preterm infants was conducted. During hospitalization, fecal samples were collected to detect microbes and metabolites using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Growth and body composition indices were measured at term equivalent age (TEA) and 6 months of corrected age (CA). Associations of the fecal microbiome and metabolome profiles with growth and body composition indices, as well as their changes, were analyzed. Results: A higher abundance of Streptococcus was associated with a lower fat-free mass (FFM) z-score at 6 months of CA (p = 0.002) and a smaller increase in FFM z-score from TEA to 6 months of CA (p = 0.018). Higher levels of 3'-sialyllactose and 6'-sialyllactose (6'-SL) in feces were correlated with a lower z-score of percentage body fat (PBF) (p = 0.018 and 0.020, respectively) and a lower z-score of fat mass (p = 0.044 and 0.043, respectively) at 6 months of CA. A higher level of 6'-SL in feces was correlated with a greater increase in FFM z-score from TEA to 6 months of CA (p = 0.021). Conclusions: This study sheds light on the role of specific microbial-host interactions in metabolic changes in preterm infants, indicating the potential role of sialylated human milk oligosaccharides in optimizing body composition.

Abstract
Preterm infants have increased body adiposity at term-equivalent age and risk of adverse metabolic outcomes. The aim of the study was to define how nutrient intake may impact body composition (BC) of very low-birth weight infants fed with early progressive enteral feeding and standard fortification. Eighty-six infants with <1500 g birth weight were included in the BC study and stratified into extremely preterm (EP) and very preterm (VP) groups. Nutrient intake was calculated during the first 28 days and BC assessed by dual X-ray absorptiometry at discharge and by skinfold thickness at 12 months of corrected age (CA). Total nutrient intake did not differ between the groups. EP infants had a higher fat mass percentage at discharge than VP infants (24.8% vs. 19.4%, p < 0.001); lean mass did not differ. None of the nutrients had any impact on BC of EP infants. Protein intake did not result in a higher lean mass in either group; fat intake was a significant predictor of increased fat mass percentage in VP infants at discharge (p = 0.007) and body adiposity at 12 months of CA (p = 0.021). Nutritional needs may depend on gestational age and routine fortification should be used with caution in more mature infants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human milk fortifier (HMF) composition has been optimized recently. But clinical evidence of its safety and efficacy is limited in Chinese population. The aim of this study was to evaluate effects of a new HMF in growth, nutritional status, feeding intolerance, and major morbidities among very preterm (VPT) or very low birth weight (VLBW) infants in China. METHODS VPT/VLBW infants admitted from March 2020 to April 2021 were prospectively included in the experimental (new HMF, nHMF) group, who received a new powdered HMF as a breast milk feeding supplement during hospitalization. Infants in the control group (cHMF) admitted from January 2018 to December 2019, were retrospective included, and matched with nHMF group infants for gestational age and birth weight. They received other kinds of commercially available HMFs. Weight gain velocity, concentrations of nutritional biomarkers, incidence of major morbidities, and measures of feeding intolerance were compared between the two groups. RESULTS Demographic and clinical characteristics of infants in nHMF and cHMF groups were comparable. Weight gain velocity had no significant difference between the nHMF (14.0 ± 3.5 g/kg/d) and the cHMF group (14.2 ± 3.8 g/kg/d; P = 0.46). Incidence of morbidities, including necrotizing enterocolitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, retinopathy of prematurity, culture-confirmed sepsis, and feeding intolerance during hospitalization between nHMF and cHMF, were similar (all P-values > 0.05). The time to achieve full enteral feeding [13.5 (10, 21) days] in the nHMF group was significantly shorter than that in the cHMF group [17 (12, 23) days, HR = 0.67, 95%CI: 0.49, 0.92; P = 0.01]. Compared with cHMF group, the decrease of blood urea nitrogen level over time in nHMF group was smaller (β = 0.6, 95%CI:0.1, 1.0; P = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The new HMF can promote growth of preterm infants effectively without increasing the incidence of major morbidity and feeding intolerance. It can be used feasible in Chinese VPT/VLBW infants. TRIAL REGISTRATION This study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04283799).

Abstract
Zero vegetable or fruit and egg and/or flesh foods are the latest indicators for assessing infant and young child feeding practices. Understanding national and subnational heterogeneity and regional clustering in children with SSA is becoming increasingly essential for geographic targeting and policy prioritization. Geographical case identification, determinants, and impacts were all investigated. SSA children's consumption of vegetable or fruit, egg and/or flesh food, and both were low. In SSA, some portions of the Southern, South direction of the Western and Central regions have a lower weight of all bad conditions than others, although children continue to suffer in considerable numbers in all disadvantage circumstances. Children under the age of 1 year, from rural areas, uneducated families, and low income were all disadvantaged by both feeding techniques. To improve child nutrition status, multisectoral collaboration is essential. This framework allows for the tracking, planning, and implementation of nutritional treatments.

Abstract
Preterm infants are at higher risk of mortality and morbidity compared with those born at term. Nutrition-related morbidities include poor growth, immune deficiency, nutritional deficiencies, and adverse long-term neurodevelopment. In addition to macronutrients, many nutritional supplements have been used to enhance growth and development, and decrease infections. Nutrients can enhance preterm infants' immune status, optimize the microbiome, improve growth and development, and influence the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis, sepsis, and other outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The INTERGROWTH-21st preterm postnatal growth standards (IPPGS) have increasingly been used to evaluate the growth of preterm infants worldwide. However, the validity of IPPGS's application to specific preterm populations remains controversial. This retrospective cohort study aimed to formulate reference growth charts for a preterm cohort in northern China and compare them to the IPPGS. METHODS A total of 1,827 healthy preterm infants with follow-up visits before 70 weeks of postmenstrual age (PMA) were retrospectively sampled from a preterm cohort (N = 2,011) born between 1 January 2011 and 28 February 2021, at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University. Using the Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape method, 5,539 sets of longitudinal data were used to construct percentile and Z-score charts of length, weight, and head circumference (HC) at 40-64 weeks of PMA. Z-scores of length, weight, and HC (LAZ, WAZ, and HCZ) before 64 weeks were calculated using the IPPGS. Differences in the 50th percentile values between preterm infants and IPPGS (dLength, dWeight, and dHC) were calculated. Z-scores were assigned to six PMA clusters: 40-44, 44-48, 48-52, 52-56, 56-60, and 60-64 weeks for comparison between sexes. RESULTS For eligible infants, the mean PMA and weight at birth were 33.93 weeks and 2.3 kg, respectively. Boys, late preterm infants, twins, and infants with exclusively breastfeeding accounted for 55.8, 70.6, 27.8, and 45.9%, respectively. Compared to IPPGS, preterm infants were longer and heavier, especially for dLength in girls (range, 2.19-2.97 cm), which almost spanned the 50th and 90th percentiles of IPPGS. The dHC tended to narrow with PMA for both sexes. The mean LAZ, WAZ, and HCZ of both sexes at all PMA clusters were >0, especially for LAZ and WAZ (about 1.0 relative to IPPGS), indicating higher levels than the IPPGS at 40-64 weeks. Girls had larger LAZ at each PMA cluster, larger WAZ at 40-44 weeks, and lower HCZ after 56 weeks than boys. HCZ declined with PMA for both sexes. CONCLUSION Postnatal growth of this preterm cohort was considerably higher than that of the IPPGS at 40-64 weeks of PMA with sex differences.
