Abstract
A Zn(II) based two-dimensional metal-organic framework (2D MOF) [Zn2(suc)2(4-nvp)2] (1) [H2suc = succinic acid and 4-nvp = 4-(1-naphthylvinyl)pyridine] exhibits a "photosalient effect" under UV light as well as sunlight along with the release of a stereoselective cyclobutane ligand, 1,3-bis(4'-pyridyl)-2,4-bis(naphthyl)cyclobutane (rctt-4-pncb). Photolysis of in situ generated MOF in solution also leads to the formation of rctt-4-pncb crystals. Interestingly, compound 1 shows a high selectivity for Pd(II) sensing in aqueous medium.

Abstract
Four structurally diverse coordination polymers 1-4 (CP1-CP4) were designed and constructed from Cd(II) ions and various carboxyl ligands (H2oba, 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid; H2bpa, (E)-4,4'-(ethene-1,2-diyl)dibenzoic acid; H2pbda, 4,4'-((1,3-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(oxy))dibenzoic acid) and the alkene containing ligand (CH3-bpeb, 4,4'-((1E,1'E)-(2,5-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)bis(ethene-2,1-diyl))dipyridine). CP1-CP4 possess Cd2 binuclear secondary building units (SBUs). The geometry of the dicarboxylate ligands and the reaction conditions determined the final structure with a variety of motifs. CP1 possesses an interdigitated 2D structure, while CP2 consists of a 1D channel-like motif with isolated CH3-bpeb molecules embedded in the channels. The solid-state structure of CP3 consists of two unique layers interpenetrated to form a 2D + 2D → 2D polycatenated backbone, while a 1D channel-like motif filled by isolated CH3-bpeb molecules was observed for CP4. In all four coordination polymers pairs of CH3-bpeb molecules were bound or encapsulated by the Cd2 secondary building units at an appropriate distance and orientation for solid-state [2 + 2] photodimerization of one pair of CC bonds. Desolvation of CP3 with heat resulted in a decrease in solid-state fluorescence and a slowing of the rate of solid-state photodimerization.

Abstract
In this study, a very simple technique to perform efficiently photodimerization of some vinylpyridines is reported. By irradiating a stirred mixture of several stilbazoles with solid oxalic acid dihydrate dispersed in a nonpolar (i.e., cyclohexane) or moderately polar (benzene, dichloromethane, dioxane) solvent, the corresponding dimeric cyclobutane adducts were obtained in high yields and excellent regio- and stereoselectivities. The strategy could also be applied successfully to oily, waxy, or even insoluble stilbazoles. Moreover, the oxalic acid loading could be lowered to substoichiometric amounts. When further optimizations were needed, our strategy was found to be highly flexible to identify other oligocarboxylic acids as alternative additives to improve, or even overturn, the regioselectivity. Oxalic acid and other oligocarboxylic acids were found to be capable of orienting more than 50 stilbazoles toward photodimerization under these conditions.

Abstract
A mixed-valent hexadecanuclear manganese cluster, [MnII2MnIII14(trz)14(thetach)4(μ3-O)8(H2O)10](ClO4)6 (Mn16), containing two MnII and 14 MnIII ions, is constructed from mixed in situ generated ligands, 1,2,3-triazole (Htrz) and 1,3,5-tri(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane (H3thetach). Remarkably, both ligands were not initially added into the reaction system, and their formations involve the in situ ligand decomposition and subsequent condensation reactions. The core of Mn16 is an elongated torus comprised of eight Mn atoms and four [Mn2O2] subunits bridged by oxo or alkoxide. The high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) of Mn16 dissolved in CH3CN indicates its structure remains intact as +3 and +4 species. Temperature and field dependent magnetization revealed predominantly antiferromagnetic exchange interactions within the cluster. The work provides one-pot synthesis of high-nuclearity manganese clusters using the ligands generated by in situ reactions in a tandem fashion.

Abstract
The pure diolefinic ligand 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3-butadiene (bpbde) is photostable in the crystalline state. With the assistance of coordination-driven metal-organic assemblies, the photoreactivity of this diolefinic ligand can be significantly enhanced. A hydrothermal reaction of bpbde with Cd(NO3 )2 ⋅4 H2 O and the auxiliary ligand adipic acid resulted in the formation of a two-dimensional photoreactive coordination polymer (CP), [Cd(adipate)(bpbde)]n (1). When the aliphatic carboxylic acid was replaced by pimelic acid, another photoreactive CP [Cd(pimelate)(bpbde)]n (2) with a three-dimensional framework was obtained. With irradiation of 365 nm UV light, the bpbde ligands in crystalline 1 and 2 underwent a regioselective photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition reaction and converted to 3,4,7,8-tetra(pyridin-4-yl)tricyclo[4.2.0.02,5 ]octane (tptco) and 1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)-2,4-bis(2-(pyridin-4-yl)vinyl)cyclobutane (bpbpvcb), respectively. The results provide an interesting insight into the rational design of highly regio- or stereoselective photocatalytic reactions for the formation of special organic molecules.

Abstract
The solvothermal cycloreversion and in situ oxidation of 1,2,3,4-tetra(pyridin-4-yl)cyclobutane (tpcb) within [CuCN] n-based MOFs were investigated. The radical mechanism for the cycloreversion of tpcb ligands was supported by capturing a 1,3-butadiene species 1,2,3,4-tetra(4-pyridyl)-1,3-butadiene (tpyb) into {[Cu18(μ-CN)18(tpcb)4(tpyb)2]·H2O} n in the presence of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO). Without TEMPO, a furan-based ligand 2,3,4,5-tetra(4-pyridyl)furan (tpyf) was generated within {[Cu4(μ-CN)4(tpyf)]·4MeCN} n via the C-C cleavage, followed by in situ oxidation in acidic condition.

Abstract
Hydrothermal reactions of metal nitrates and ligand bis(5-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methane (H2 L1 ) gave three cluster compounds, {Cr2 }, {Zn12 } and {Fe8 }. Notably, methylene group of H2 L1 was in situ oxidized either to hydroxymethylated (L2 -O)3- in the metallo-ring {Zn12 } or to a rigid carbonylated (L3 =O)2- in the screw-type {Fe8 }. In light of comparative experimental results, NO3- was deduced to be of a catalytic role in the ligand oxidation. Metal ion could be regarded as an "induced" tool for clusters generation in self-assembly process.

Abstract
The cyclobutane cleavage reaction is an important process and has received continuous interest. Herein, we demonstrate the visible laser-driven cleavage reaction of cyclobutane in crystal form by using in situ Raman spectroscopy. Silver(I) coordination-induced strain and thermal effects from the laser irradiation are the two main driving forces for the cleavage of cyclobutane crystals. This work may open up a new avenue for studying cyclobutane cleavage reactions, as compared to the conventional routes using ex situ techniques.

Abstract
Two polymorphic forms of a ladder coordination polymer [Zn2(μ-O2C-p-Tol)2(O2C-p-Tol)2(bpe)2] have parallel and criss-cross alignments of the C=C bond pairs. Both polymorphs undergo 100% [2+2] cycloaddition reaction but the one with a parallel orientation of C=C bonds (thermodynamic product) retains its single crystallinity after the reaction.
