Abstract
A mononuclear Mn(III) complex of a clickable ligand, [Mn(hbpapn)(H2O)2]ClO4·4.5H2O, where H2hbpapn = 1,3-bis[(2-hydroxybenzyl)(propargyl)amino]propane, has been prepared and fully characterized. The complex catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide employing a Mn(III)/Mn(IV) redox cycle, with catalytic rate constant of 3.9 × 106 M-1 s-1 determined through the nitro blue tetrazolium photoreduction inhibition assay, in aqueous medium of pH 7.8. The alkyne function of the ligand was used for the covalent attachment of the catalyst to azide modified mesoporous silicas with different texture and morphology, through click chemistry. In these materials the catalyst is essentially linked to the inner pore walls, isolated and protected from the external medium. The hybrid materials can be recycled, and retain or improve the superoxide dismutase activity of the free catalyst with the pore size of the solid matrix playing a role on the activity of the catalyst.

Abstract
The incorporation of a luminescent probe into a nano-vector is one of the approaches used to design chemosensors and nanocargos for drug delivery and theranostics. The location of the nano-vector can be followed using fluorescence spectroscopy together with the change of environment that affects the fluorescence properties. The ligand 9-anthracene carboxylate is proposed in this study as a luminescent probe to locate two types of manganese complexes inside three series of porous nanoparticles of different composition: resol-silica, carbon-silica and pure silica. The manganese complexes are a tetranuclear MnIII cluster [MnIII4(μ-O)2(μ-AntCO2)6(bpy)2(ClO4)2] with a butterfly core, and a MnII dinuclear complex [{MnII(bpy)(AntCO2)}2(μ-AntCO2)2(μ-OH2)]. The magnetic measurements indicate that both complexes are present as dinuclear entities when incorporated inside the particles. Both the Mn complexes and the nanoparticles are luminescent. However, when the metal complexes are introduced into the nanoparticles, the luminescent properties of both are altered. The study of the fluorescence of the nanoparticles’ suspensions and of the supernatants shows that MnII compounds seem to be more retained inside the particles than MnIII compounds. The resol-silica nanoparticles with MnII complexes inside is the material that presents the lowest complex leaching in ethanol.

Abstract
Two mononuclear iron(ii)-thiolate complexes have been prepared that represent structural models of the nonheme iron enzymes EgtB and OvoA, which catalyze the O2-dependent formation of carbon-sulfur bonds in the biosynthesis of thiohistidine compounds. The series of Fe(ii) complexes reported here feature tripodal N4 chelates (LA and LB) that contain both pyridyl and imidazolyl donors (LA = (1H-imidazol-4-yl)-N,N-bis((pyridin-2-yl)methyl)methanamine; LB = N,N-bis((1-methylimidazol-2-yl)methyl)-2-pyridylmethylamine). Further coordination with monodentate aromatic or aliphatic thiolate ligands yielded the five-coordinate, high-spin Fe(ii) complexes [FeII(LA)(SMes)]BPh4 (1) and [FeII(LB)(SCy)]BPh4 (2), where SMes = 2,4,6-trimethylthiophenolate and SCy = cyclohexanethiolate. X-ray crystal structures revealed that 1 and 2 possess trigonal bipyramidal geometries formed by the N4S ligand set. In each case, the thiolate ligand is positioned cis to an imidazole donor, replicating the arrangement of Cys- and His-based substrates in the active site of EgtB. The geometric and electronic structures of 1 and 2 were analyzed with UV-vis absorption and Mössbauer spectroscopies in tandem with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Exposure of 1 and 2 to nitric oxide (NO) yielded six-coordinate FeNO adducts that were characterized with infrared and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopies, confirming that these complexes are capable of binding diatomic molecules. Reaction of 1 and 2 with O2 causes oxidation of the thiolate ligands to disulfide products. The implications of these results for the development of functional models of EgtB and OvoA are discussed.

Abstract
Zn2+ plays an important role in the normal function of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and its deficiency can cause ER stress, which is related to a wide range of diseases. In order to provide tools to better understand the role of mobile Zn2+ in ER processes, the first custom designed ER-localised fluorescent Zn2+ probes have been developed through the introduction of a cyclohexyl sulfonylurea as an ER-targeting unit with different Zn2+ receptors. Experiments in vitro and in cellulo show that both probes have a good fluorescence switch on response to Zn2+, high selectivity over other cations, low toxicity, ER-specific targeting ability and are efficacious imaging agents for mobile Zn2+ in four different cell lines. Probe 9 has been used to detect mobile Zn2+ changes under ER stress induced by both tunicamycin or thapsigargin, which indicates that the new probes should allow a better understanding of the mechanisms cells use to respond to dysfunction of zinc homeostasis in the ER and its role in the initiation and progression of diseases to be developed.

Abstract
Zn2+ is involved in a number of biological processes and its wide-ranging roles at the subcellular level, especially in specific organelles, have not yet been fully established due to a lack of tools to image it effectively. We report a new and efficient modular double 'click' approach towards a range of sub-cellular localised probes for mobile zinc. Through this methodology, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria and lysosome localised probes were successfully prepared which show good fluorescence responses to mobile Zn2+in vitro and in cellulo whilst a non-targeting probe was synthesized as a control. The methodology appears to have wide-utility for the generation of sub-cellular localised probes by incorporating specific organelle targeting vectors for mobile Zn2+ imaging.

Abstract
While the coordination chemistry of monometallic complexes and the surface properties of extended metal particles are well understood, the control of metal nanocluster formation has remained challenging. The isolation of discrete metal clusters provides an especially rare snapshot at the nanoscale of cluster growth. The synthesis and full characterization of the first early-transition-metal alkynyl cubane and the first μ3 -alkynyl Mn3 motif are reported.

Abstract
A novel well-defined thiolate-bridged dicobalt azido complex is converted to a rare sulfilimide-bridged dicobalt complex via nitrogen atom migratory insertion into the Co-S bond upon thermolysis. Intriguingly, the homolytic cleavage of hydrogen is achieved by this azide under mild conditions to furnish a partially hydrogenated azido complex.

Abstract
The ligand 3-chloro-6-dipicolylamino-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (Cl-TTZ-dipica) , prepared by the direct reaction between 3,6-dichloro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine and di(2-picolyl)-amine, afforded a series of four neutral transition metal complexes formulated as [Cl-TTZ-dipica-MCl2]2, with M = Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) and Co(II), when reacted with the corresponding metal chlorides. The dinuclear structure of the isostructural complexes was disclosed by single crystal X-ray analysis, clearly indicating the formation of [M(II)-(μ-Cl)2M(II)] motifs and the involvement of the amino nitrogen atom in semi-coordination with the metal centers, thus leading to distorted octahedral coordination geometries. Moreover, the chlorine atoms, either coordinated to the metal or as a substituent on the tetrazine ring, engage respectively in specific anion-π intramolecular and intermolecular interactions with the electron-poor tetrazine units in the solid state, thus controlling the supramolecular architecture. Modulation of the emission properties is observed in the case of the Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes when compared to the free ligand. A striking difference is observed in the magnetic properties of the Mn(II) and Co(II) complexes. An antiferromagnetic coupling takes place in the dimanganese(II) compound (J = -1.25 cm(-1)) while the Co(II) centers are ferromagnetically coupled in the corresponding complex (J = +0.55 cm(-1)), the spin Hamiltonian being defined as H = -JSA·SB.
