Abstract
Toward a selective and facile method for the synthesis of CF3-containing pyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazolines, we developed a [3 + 2] cycloaddition/1,3-H shift/rearrangement/dehydrogenation cascade involving in situ generated CF3CHN2 and 3-ylideneoxindoles with DBU as a base. The reaction is distinguished by its mild conditions, metal-free process, operational simplicity, and broad functional group tolerance, thus presenting a convenient protocol for the construction of pyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazolines that are of interest in medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Catalytic π-arene activation is based on catalysts that allow for arene exchange. To date, cyclopentadiene (Cp)-derived catalysts are the most commonly used in π-arene activation despite their low arene exchange rates. Herein, we report the synthesis, analysis, and catalytic application of Ru(II) complexes supported by phenoxo ligands, which are isolobal alternatives to Cp. The phenoxo complexes exhibit arene exchange rates significantly faster than those of the corresponding Cp complexes. The rate can be further increased through the choice of appropriate counterions. The mechanism of the arene exchange process is elucidated by kinetic and computational analyses. We demonstrate the utility of the new catalysts through an SNAr reaction between fluorobenzene and alcohols, including secondary alcohols that could not be used previously in related reactions. Moreover, the catalytic thermal decarboxylation of phenylacetic acids is presented.

Abstract
A series of complexes of the general formula [(η6-arene)RuCp][PF6] (where arene = aryl halides or nitroarenes) were synthesised and the arene ring was found to be reactive towards an intermolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction with a series of cyclic 1,3-diones. Competition experiments indicated that leaving group ability of the aryl halides and nitroarenes went in the order of F ≫ NO2 > Cl > Br. Following SNAr, the arene rings were liberated quantitatively via a rapid photolysis reaction (<15 min).

Abstract
AbstractThe trifluoromethyl group only exists in synthetic compounds. Owing to the unique bioactivities of this group, the trifluoromethylation of alkanes, arenes, unsaturated compounds like olefins, aldehydes, and ketones, and heterocycles has been studied constantly in recent decades. Herein, a direct method using trifluoroacetic acid as a CF3 source for the synthesis of 2-(trifluoromethyl)quinazolin-4-ones and 4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrrolo/indolo[1,2-a]quinoxalines without any catalysts or additives is reported; a wide range of fluorinated compounds were obtained in 52%–94% yield.

Abstract
A practical and general iron-catalyzed domino decarboxylation-oxidation of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids enabling aldehyde C-H methylation for the synthesis of methyl ketones has been developed. This mild, operationally simple method uses ambient air as the sole oxidant and tolerates sensitive functional groups for the late-stage functionalization of complex natural-product-derived and polyfunctionalized molecules.

Abstract
Nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SN Ar) is a powerful strategy for incorporating a heteroatom into an aromatic ring by displacement of a leaving group with a nucleophile, but this method is limited to electron-deficient arenes. We have now established a reliable method for accessing phenols and phenyl alkyl ethers via catalytic SN Ar reactions. The method is applicable to a broad array of electron-rich and neutral aryl fluorides, which are inert under classical SN Ar conditions. Although the mechanism of SN Ar reactions involving metal arene complexes is hypothesized to involve a stepwise pathway (addition followed by elimination), experimental data that support this hypothesis is still under exploration. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations suggest either a stepwise or stepwise-like energy profile. Notably, we isolated a rhodium η5 -cyclohexadienyl complex intermediate with an sp3 -hybridized carbon bearing both a nucleophile and a leaving group.

Abstract
π‐Coordination of aromatic molecules to metals dramatically alters their reactivity. For example, coordinated carbons become more electrophilic and C−H bonds of coordinated rings become more acidic. For many years, this change in reactivity has been used to trigger reactions that would not take place for uncoordinated arenes, however, there has been a recent resurgence in use of this technique, in part due to the development of catalytic reactions in which π‐coordination is transient. In this Minireview, we describe the key reaction chemistry of arenes coordinated to a range of transition metals, including stereoselective reactions and industrially relevant syntheses. We also summarise outstanding examples of catalytic processes. Finally, we give perspectives on the future direction of the field, with respect to both reactions that are stoichiometric in activating metals and those employing catalytic metal.

Abstract
We developed a Ru/hemilabile-ligand-catalyzed nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) of aryl fluorides as the limiting reagents. Significant ligand enhancement was demonstrated by the engagement of both electron-rich and neutral arenes in the SNAr amination without using excess arenes. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that the nucleophilic substitution proceeds on a η6-complex of the Ru catalyst and the substrate, and the hemilabile ligand facilitates dissociation of products from the metal center.
