Neutral and Cationic Re(I) Complexes with Pnictogen-Based Coligands and Tunable Functionality: From Phosphorescence to Photoinduced CO Release

In this work, we have explored Re(I) complexes featuring triphenylpnictogen (PnPh3, Pn = P, As, or Sb)-based coligands and bidentate (neutral or monoanionic) luminophores derived from 1,10-phenantroline (phen), as well as from 2-(3-(tert-butyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)pyridine (H(N-tBu)). The effect of the increasingly heavy elements on the structural parameters, photoexcited-state properties, and electrochemical behavior as well as the hybridization defects and polarization of the Pn atoms was related to the charges of the main luminophores (i.e., phen vs N-tBu) and explored in terms of photoluminescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and quantum-chemical methods. Therefore, an in-depth analysis of the bonding, crystal packing, excited-state energies, and lifetimes was assessed in liquid solutions, frozen glassy matrices, and crystalline phases along with a semiquantitative photoactivation study. Notably, by changing the main ligand from phen to N-tBu, an increase in radiative and radiationless deactivation rates (kr and knr, respectively) at 77 K together with a faster photoinduced CO release and fragmentation at room temperature was detected. In addition, a progressively red-shifted phosphorescence was observed with the growing atomic number of the pnictogen atom, along with a boost in kr and knr at 77 K. Down the Vth main group and upon coordination of the Pn atom to the Re(I) center, an increasingly prominent jump of s-orbital participation on the binding sxp3.00-orbitals of the Pn atoms is evidenced. Based on these findings, the ability of these complexes to act as tunable photoluminescent labels able to perform as light-driven CO-releasing molecules is envisioned.

Controlling of Photophysical Behavior of Rhenium(I) Complexes with 2,6-Di(thiazol-2-yl)pyridine-Based Ligands by Pendant π-Conjugated Aryl Groups

The structure–property correlations and control of electronic excited states in transition metal complexes (TMCs) are of high significance for TMC-based functional material development. Within these studies, a series of Re(I) carbonyl complexes with aryl-substituted 2,6-di(thiazol-2-yl)pyridines (Arⁿ-dtpy) was synthesized, and their ground- and excited-state properties were investigated. A number of condensed aromatic rings, which function as the linking mode of the aryl substituent, play a fundamental role in controlling photophysics of the resulting [ReCl(CO)₃(Arⁿ-dtpy-κ²N)]. Photoexcitation of [ReCl(CO)₃(Arⁿ-dtpy-κ²N)] with 1-naphthyl-, 2-naphthyl-, 9-phenanthrenyl leads to the population of ³MLCT. The lowest triplet state of Re(I) chromophores bearing 9-anthryl, 2-anthryl, 1-pyrenyl groups is ligand localized. The rhenium(I) complex with appended 1-pyrenyl group features long-lived room temperature emission attributed to the equilibrium between ³MLCT and ³IL/³ILCT. The excited-state dynamics in complexes [ReCl(CO)₃(9-anthryl-dtpy-κ²N)] and [ReCl(CO)₃(2-anthryl-dtpy-κ²N)] is strongly dependent on the electronic coupling between anthracene and {ReCl(CO)₃(dtpy-κ²N)}. Less steric hindrance between the chromophores in [ReCl(CO)₃(2-anthryl-dtpy-κ²N)] is responsible for the faster formation of ³IL/³ILCT and larger contribution of ³ILCT_{anthracene→dtpy} in relation to the isomeric complex [ReCl(CO)₃(9-anthryl-dtpy-κ²N)]. In agreement with stronger electronic communication between the aryl and Re(I) coordination centre, [ReCl(CO)₃(2-anthryl-dtpy-κ²N)] displays room-temperature emission contributed to by ³MLCT and ³IL_anthracene/³ILCT_{anthracene→dtpy} phosphorescence. The latter presents rarely observed phenomena in luminescent metal complexes.

Impact of the Anthryl Linking Mode on the Photophysics and Excited-State Dynamics of Re(I) Complexes [ReCl(CO)3(4′-An-terpy-κ2N)]

Rhenium(I) complexes with 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridines (terpy) substituted with 9-anthryl (1) and 2-anthryl (2) were synthesized, and the impact of the anthryl linking mode on the ground- and excited-state properties of resulting complexes [ReCl(CO)₃(4′-An-terpy-κ²N)] (An—anthryl) was investigated using a combination of steady-state and time-resolved optical techniques accompanied by theoretical calculations. Different attachment positions of anthracene modify the overlap between the molecular orbitals and thus the electronic coupling of the anthracene and {ReCl(CO)₃(terpy-κ²N)} chromophores. Following the femtosecond transient absorption, the lowest triplet excited state of both complexes was found to be localized on the anthracene chromophore. The striking difference between 1 and 2 concerns the triplet-state formation dynamics. A more planar geometry of 2-anthryl-terpy (2), and thus better electronic communication between the anthracene and {ReCl(CO)₃(terpy-κ²N)} chromophores, facilitates the formation of the ³An triplet state. In steady-state photoluminescence spectra, the population ratio of ³MLCT and ³An was found to be dependent not only on the anthryl linking mode but also on solvent polarity and excitation wavelengths. In dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), compounds 1 and 2 excited with λ_exc > 410 nm show both ³MLCT and ³An emissions, which are rarely observed. Additionally, the abilities of the designed complexes for ¹O₂ generation and light emission under the external voltage were preliminary examined.

Copper(II) Complexes of Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide Ligands with High SOD Activity

Copper(II) complexes of pyridine-based ligands functionalized with alanine (PydiAla) and tyrosine (PydiTyr) moieties have been synthesized as novel superoxide dismutase mimics. The complexes were characterized by pH-potentiometric, spectroscopic (UV-vis, circular dichroism, mass spectrometry, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy), computational (DFT), and X-ray diffraction methods. Both ligands form high stability copper(II) complexes via the (N_py,N^-,N^-) donor set supported by the binding of the carboxylate pendant arms. Although the coordination mode is the same for the two systems, the tyrosine containing counterpart exhibits increased copper(II) binding affinity, which is most likely due to the presence of the aromatic moiety of the side chains. Both copper(II) complexes are capable of binding N-methylimidazole, and the formation of the corresponding ternary species was observed at physiological pH. The binary and ternary copper(II) complexes exhibit high SOD activity. The PydiTyr complex exhibits about 1 order of magnitude higher activity than the PydiAla complex. This is probably due to the presence of the phenolic OH group in the former species, which promotes the binding of the superoxide anion radical to the metal center. The results serve as a basis for designing highly efficient copper(II) mimics for medical and practical applications.

Tricarbonyl rhenium complex shows good electrochromic performance with a colored stage of green, rapid response and good switching stability.

In-Depth Studies of Ground- and Excited-State Properties of Re(I) Carbonyl Complexes Bearing 2,2':6',2″-Terpyridine and 2,6-Bis(pyrazin-2-yl)pyridine Coupled with π-Conjugated Aryl Chromophores

In the current work, comprehensive photophysical and electrochemical studies were performed for eight rhenium(I) complexes incorporating 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine (terpy) and 2,6-bis(pyrazin-2-yl)pyridine (dppy) with appended 1-naphthyl-, 2-naphthyl-, 9-phenanthrenyl, and 1-pyrenyl groups. Naphthyl and phenanthrenyl substituents marginally affected the energy of the MLCT absorption and emission bands, signaling a weak electronic coupling of the appended aryl group with the Re(I) center. The triplet MLCT state in these complexes is so low lying relative to the triplet ³IL_aryl that the thermal population of the triplet excited state delocalized on the organic chromophore is ineffective. The attachment of the electron-rich pyrenyl group resulted in a noticeable red shift and a significant increase in molar absorption coefficients of the lowest energy absorption of the resulting Re(I) complexes due to the contribution of intraligand charge-transfer (ILCT) transitions occurring from the pyrenyl substituent to the terpy/dppy core. At 77 K, the excited states of [ReCl(CO)₃(Lⁿ-κ²N)] with 1-pyrenyl-functionalized ligands were found to have predominant ³IL_pyrene/³ILCT_{pyrene→terpy} character. The ³IL/³ILCT nature of the lowest energy excited state of [ReCl(CO)₃(4'-(1-pyrenyl)-terpy-κ²N)] was also evidenced by nanosecond transient absorption and time-resolved emission spectroscopy. Enhanced room-temperature emission lifetimes of the complexes [ReCl(CO)₃(Lⁿ-κ²N)] with 1-pyrenyl-substituted ligands are indicative of the thermal activation between ³MLCT and ³IL/³ILCT excited states. Deactivation pathways occurring upon light excitation in [ReCl(CO)₃(4'-(1-naphthyl)-terpy-κ²N)] and [ReCl(CO)₃(4'-(1-pyrenyl)-terpy-κ²N)] were determined by femtosecond transient absorption studies.

Phenyl-pyta-tricarbonylrhenium(I) complexes: combining a simplified structure and steric hindrance to modulate the photoluminescence properties

Strongly luminescent tricarbonylrhenium(I) complexes are promising candidates in the field of optical materials. In this study, three new complexes bearing a 3-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (pyta) bidentate ligand with an appended phenyl group were obtained in very good yields owing to an optimized synthetic procedure. The first member of this series, i.e. complex 1, was compared with the previously studied complex RePBO to understand the influence of the fluorescent benzoxazole unit grafted on the phenyl ring. Then, to gauge the effect of steric hindrance on the luminescence properties, the phenyl group of complex 1 was substituted in the para position by a bulky tert-butyl group or an adamantyl moiety, affording complexes 2 and 3, respectively. The results of theoretical calculations indicated that these complexes were quite similar from an electronic point of view, as evidenced by the electrochemical study. In dichloromethane solution, under excitation in the UV range, all the complexes emitted weak phosphorescence in the red region. In the solid state, they could be excited in the blue region of the visible spectrum and they emitted strong yellow light. The photoluminescence quantum yield was markedly increased with raising the size of the substituent, passing from 0.42 for 1 to 0.59 for 3. The latter complex also exhibited clear waveguiding properties, unprecedented for rhenium complexes. From this point of view, these easy-synthesized and spectroscopically attractive complexes constitute a new generation of emitters for use in imaging applications and functional materials. However, the comparison with RePBO showed that the presence of the benzoxazole group leads to unsurpassed mechanoresponsive luminescence (MRL) properties, due to the involvement of a unique photophysical mechanism that takes place only in this type of complex.

Carbazole effect on ground- and excited-state properties of rhenium(i) carbonyl complexes with extended terpy-like ligands

The ground- and excited-state properties of three novel complexes [ReCl(CO)₃(Lⁿ-κ²N)] bearing 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine, 2,6-di(thiazol-2-yl)pyridine and 2,6-di(pyrazin-2-yl)pyridine functionalized with 9-carbazole attached to the central pyridine ring of the triimine core via phenylene linkage were investigated by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods and were simulated using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT. To get a deeper and broader understanding of structure-property relationships, the designed Re(i) carbonyl complexes were compared with previously reported analogous systems - without any groups attached to the phenyl ring and bearing pyrrolidine instead of 9-carbazole. The results indicated that attachment of the N-carbazolyl substituent to the triimine core has less influence on the nature of the triplet excited state of [ReCl(CO)₃(Lⁿ-κ²N)] than the pyrrolidine group. Additionally, the impact of the ligand structural modifications on the light emission of the Re(i) complexes under external voltage was preliminarily examined with electroluminescence spectra of diodes containing the synthesized new molecules in an active layer.

Coordination Environment Prevents Access to Intraligand Charge-Transfer States through Remote Substitution in Rhenium(I) Terpyridinedicarbonyl Complexes

Six rhenium(I) κ³N-dicarbonyl complexes with 4'-(4-substituted phenyl)terpyridine ligands were evaluated in their ground and excited states. These complexes, bearing substituents of different electron-donating strengths-from CN to NMe₂-were studied by a combination of transient IR (TRIR), electrochemistry, and IR spectroelectrochemistry, as well as time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). They exhibit panchromatic absorption and can act as stronger photoreductants than their tricarbonyl counterparts. The ground- and excited-state potentials, absorption maxima, and lifetimes (250-750 ps) of these complexes correlate well with the Hammett σ_p substituent constants, showing the systematic effect of remote substitution in the ligand framework. TRIR spectroscopy allowed us to assign the lowest singlet and triplet excited states to a metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) character. This result contrasts our previous report on analogous κ²N-tricarbonyl complexes, where remote substitution switched the character from MLCT to intraligand charge transfer. With the help of TD-DFT calculations, we dissect the geometric and electronic effects of coordination of the third pyridine, local symmetries, and increasing conjugation length. These results give valuable insights for the design of complexes with long-lived triplet excited states and enhanced absorption throughout the visible spectrum, while showcasing the boundaries of the excited-state switching strategy via remote substitution.

The role of substituted pyridine Schiff bases as ancillary ligands in the optical properties of a new series of fac-rhenium(i) tricarbonyl complexes: a theoretical view

Over the last few years, luminescent Re(i) tricarbonyl complexes have been increasingly proposed as fluorophores suitable for fluorescence microscopy to visualize biological structures and cells. In this sense, incorporating an asymmetrical pyridine Schiff base (PSB) as the ancillary ligand strongly modifies the staining and luminescent properties of Re(i) tricarbonyl complexes. In this work, we analyzed two series of Re(i) tricarbonyl complexes with their respective PSB ligands: (1) fac-[Re(CO)₃(2,2′-bpy)(PSB)]¹⁺ and (2) fac-[Re(CO)₃(4,4′-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)-2,2′-bpy)(PSB)]¹⁺, where the PSB exhibits substitutions at positions 4 or 6 in the phenolic ring with methyl or halogen substituents. Thus, we performed computational relativistic DFT and TDDFT studies to determine their optical properties. The ten complexes analyzed showed absorption in the visible light range. Furthermore, our analyses, including zero-field splitting (ZFS), allowed us to determine that the low-lying excited state locates below the ³LLCT states. Interestingly, seven of the ten analyzed complexes, whose corresponding PSB harbors an intramolecular hydrogen bond (IHB), exhibited luminescent emission that could be suitable for biological purposes: large Stokes shift, emission in the range 600–700 nm and τ in the order of 10⁻² to 10⁻³ s. Conversely, the three complexes lacking the IHB due to two halogen substituents in the corresponding PSB showed a predicted emission with the lowest triplet excited state energy entering the NIR region. The main differences in the complexes' photophysical behavior have been explained by the energy gap law and time-resolved luminescence. These results emphasize the importance of choosing suitable substituents at the 4 and 6 positions in the phenolic ring of the PSB, which determine the presence of the IHB since they modulate the luminescence properties of the Re(i) core. Therefore, this study could predict Re(i) tricarbonyl complexes' properties, considering the desired emission features for biological and other applications.

Living Long and Prosperous: Productive Intraligand Charge-Transfer States from a Rhenium(I) Terpyridine Photosensitizer with Enhanced Light Absorption

The ground- and excited-state properties of six rhenium(I) κ²N-tricarbonyl complexes with 4'-(4-substituted-phenyl)terpyridine ligands bearing substituents of different electron-donating abilities were evaluated. Significant modulation of the electrochemical potentials and a nearly 4-fold variation of the triplet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (³MLCT) lifetimes were observed upon going from CN to OMe. With the more electron-donating NMe₂ group, we observed in the κ²N complex the appearance of a very strong absorption band, red-shifted by ca. 100 nm with respect to the other complexes. This was accompanied by a dramatic enhancement of the excited-state lifetime (380 vs 1.5 ns), and a character change from ³MLCT to intraligand charge transfer (³ILCT), despite the remote location of the substituent. The dynamics and character of the excited states of all complexes were assigned by combining transient IR spectroscopy, IR spectroelectrochemistry, and (time-dependent) density functional theory calculations. Selected complexes were evaluated as photosensitizers for hydrogen production, with the κ²N-NMe₂ complex resulting in a stable and efficient photocatalytic system reaching TON_Re values of over 2100, representing the first application of the ³ILCT state of a rhenium(I) carbonyl complex in a stable photocatalytic system.

Luminescent Rhenium(I)tricarbonyl Complexes Containing Different Pyrazoles and Their Successive Deprotonation Products: CO2 Reduction Electrocatalysts

Cationic fac-[Re(CO)₃(pz*H)(pypzH)]OTf (pz*H = pyrazole, pzH; 3,5-dimethylpyrazole, dmpzH; indazole, indzH; 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole, pypzH) were obtained from fac-[ReBr(CO)₃(pypzH)] by halide abstraction with AgOTf and subsequent addition of the corresponding pyrazole. Successive deprotonation with Na₂CO₃ and NaOH gave neutral fac-[Re(CO)₃(pz*H)(pypz)] and anionic Na{fac-[Re(CO)₃(pz*)(pypz)]} complexes, respectively. Cationic fac-[Re(CO)₃(pz*H)(pypzH)]OTf, neutral complexes fac-[Re(CO)₃(pz*H)(pypz)], and fac-[Re(CO)₃(pypz)₂Na] were subjected to photophysical and electrochemical studies. They exhibit phosphorescent decays from a prevalently ³MLCT excited state with quantum yields (Φ) in the range between 0.03 and 0.58 and long lifetimes (τ from 220 to 869 ns). The electrochemical behavior in Ar atmosphere of cationic and neutral complexes indicates that the oxidation processes assigned to Re^I → Re^II occurs at lower potentials for the neutral complex compared to cationic complex. The reduction processes occur at the ligands and do not depend on the charge of the complexes. The electrochemical behavior in CO₂ saturated media is consistent with CO₂ electrocatalyzed reduction, where the values of the catalytic activity [i_cat(CO₂)/i_cat(Ar)] ranged from 2.7 to 11.5 (compared to 8.1 for fac-[Re(CO)₃Cl(bipy)] studied as a reference). Controlled potential electrolysis for the pyrazole cationic (3a) and neutral (4a) complexes after 1 h affords CO in faraday yields of 61 and 89%, respectively. These values are higher for indazole complexes and may be related to the acidity of the coordinated pyrazole.

Towards better understanding of photophysical properties of rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes with terpy-like ligands

Series of Re(I) carbonyls complexes were designed and synthesized to explore the impact of the triimine skeleton and number of methoxy groups attached to aryl substituents on their optoelectronic and thermal properties. The chemical structures of the prepared complexes were confirmed by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, HR-MS, elemental anlsysis, and X-ray measurements. DSC measuremtns showed that they melted in the range of 198-325 °C. Some of them form stable molecular glasses with high glass transition temperatures (158-173 °C). Experimentally obtained optical properties were supported by DFT calculations. The UV-Vis spectra display a series of overlapping absorption bands in the range 200-350 nm, and much weaker broad band in the visible spectral region, due to intraligand and charge transfer transitions, respectively. All synthesized complexes were emissive in solution and in solid state as powder. Moreover, when applied in diodes, some of them exhibited ability for emission of light under external voltage with maximum of electroluminescence band located at 591-630 nm.

Platinum(ii) complexes showing high cytotoxicity toward A2780 ovarian carcinoma cells

2,6-Bis(thiazol-2-yl)pyridines functionalized with 9-anthryl (L¹), 9-phenanthryl (L²), and 1-pyrenyl (L³) groups were used for the preparation of [Pt(Lⁿ)Cl]CF₃SO₃ (1-3). The constitution of the Pt(ii) complexes was determined by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, HR-MS spectrometry, elemental analysis and X-ray analysis (for (1)). The electrochemical and photophysical properties of [Pt(Lⁿ)Cl]CF₃SO₃ were compared with the behaviour of the Pt(ii) complexes with aryl-substituted 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligands. What is noteworthy is that the coordination ability of dtpy toward the Pt(ii) centre was investigated for the first time. All complexes were tested in vitro by MTS assay on four tumor cell lines, A2780 (ovarian carcinoma), HTC116 (colon rectal carcinoma), MCF7 (breast adenocarcinoma), and PC3 (prostate carcinoma) and on normal primary fibroblasts. Compounds (1-3) showed a dose dependent antiproliferative effect in the A2780 cell line with (3) > (2) > (1) and this loss of A2780 cell viability was due to a combination of an apoptotic cell death mechanism via mitochondria and autophagic cell death. Exposure to IC₅₀ concentration of (2) induced an increase in the number of apoptotic nuclei and a depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane which is consistent with the induction of apoptosis while exposure to IC₅₀ concentration of (3) showed an increase in the apoptotic nuclei with a slight hyperpolarization of the mitochondrial membrane that might indicate an initial step of apoptosis induction. The complexes (2) and (3) induce an increase in the production of intracellular ROS which is associated with the trigger of the apoptotic pathways. The ROS production was augmented by the presence of oxidants and correlated with an increase of oxygen radicals. The IC₅₀ of (2) and (3) (4.4 μM and 2.9 μM, respectively) was similar to the IC₅₀ of cisplatin (3.4 μM) in the A2780 cell line, which together with their low cytotoxicity in normal fibroblasts, demonstrates their potential for further studies.

Phosphine oxide-based tricarbonylrhenium(i) complexes from phosphine/phosphine oxide and dihydroxybenzoquinones

Neutral phosphine oxide (P[double bond, length as m-dash]O) donor-based organometallic complexes [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}{μ-DHBQ}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}] (1), [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}{μ-DHBQ}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}] (2), [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}{μ-THQ}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}] (3), [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}{μ-THQ}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}] (4), [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}{μ-CA}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PCy3}] (5), and [{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}{μ-CA}{Re(CO)3O[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3}] (6) were assembled from phosphine/phosphine oxide, a dihydroxybenzoquinone donor and Re2(CO)10via a one-pot solvothermal approach. The soft phosphine donor was transformed into a hard phosphine oxide donor during the formation of 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The complexes 1-6 were air and moisture stable and were soluble in polar organic solvents. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and NMR spectroscopic methods. The molecular structures of 1, 2, 4, and 6 were analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The UV-Visible absorption studies indicated that 1-6 in THF display strong visible light absorption in the range of ∼350-700 nm.

Chromophore-Functionalized Phenanthro-diimine Ligands and Their Re(I) Complexes

A series of diimine ligands has been designed on the basis of 2-pyridyl-1 H-phenanthro[9,10- d]imidazole (L1, L2). Coupling the basic motif of L1 with anthracene-containing fragments affords the bichromophore compounds L3-L5, of which L4 and L5 adopt a donor-acceptor architecture. The latter allows intramolecular charge transfer with intense absorption bands in the visible spectrum (lowest λabs 464 nm (ε = 1.2 × 104 M-1 cm-1) and 490 nm (ε = 5.2 × 104 M-1 cm-1) in CH2Cl2 for L4 and L5, respectively). L1-L5 show strong fluorescence in a fluid medium (Φem = 22-92%, λem 370-602 nm in CH2Cl2); discernible emission solvatochromism is observed for L4 and L5. In addition, the presence of pyridyl (L1-L5) and dimethylaminophenyl (L5) groups enables reversible alteration of their optical properties by means of protonation. Ligands L1-L5 were used to synthesize the corresponding [Re(CO)3X(diimine)] (X = Cl, 1-5; X = CN, 1-CN) complexes. 1 and 2 exhibit unusual dual emission of singlet and triplet parentage, which originate from independently populated 1ππ* and 3MLCT excited states. In contrast to the majority of the reported Re(I) carbonyl luminophores, complexes 3-5 display moderately intense ligand-based fluorescence from an anthracene-containing secondary chromophore and complete quenching of emission from the 3MLCT state presumably due to the triplet-triplet energy transfer (3MLCT → 3ILCT).
