Abstract
The extensive use of antibiotics has become a serious concern due to certain deficiencies in wastewater facilities, their resistance to removal, and their toxic effects on the natural environment. Therefore, substantial attention has been given to the detection of antibiotics because of their potential detriment to the ecosystem and human health. In the present study, a novel design of indium tin oxide (ITO) coated U-shaped fiber optic lossy mode resonance (LMR) biosensor is presented for the sensitive detection of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP). The performance of the designed U-shaped LMR sensor is characterized in terms of its sensitivity, full width at half maximum (FWHM), the figure of merit (FOM), and the limit of detection (LOD). For the proposed U-shaped LMR sensing probe, the various crucial factors such as the thickness (d) of the ITO layer, sensing region length (L), and bending radius (R) are optimized. The thickness of the ITO layer is optimized in such a way that two LMR curves are observed in the transmission spectrum and, thereafter, the performance parameters are evaluated for each LMR. It is observed that the designed U-shaped LMR sensor with optimized parameters shows an approximately seven-fold enhancement in sensitivity compared to the straight-core fiber optic LMR sensor. The numerical results revealed that the designed U-shaped fiber optic LMR biosensor can provide a maximum sensitivity of 17,209.9 nm/RIU with the highest FOM of 91.42 RIU-1, and LOD of 6.3 × 10-5 RIU for the detection of CIP hydrochloride in the concentration range of 0.001 to 0.029 mol∙dm-3. Thus, it is believed that the designed LMR biosensor can practically explore its potential use in environmental monitoring and biomedical applications and hence, opens a new window of opportunity for the researchers working in the field of U-shaped fiber optic LMR biosensing.

Abstract
In the last few decades, pharmaceuticals, credited with saving millions of lives, have emerged as a new class of environmental contaminants. These compounds can have both chronic and acute harmful effects on aquatic ecosystems and consequently on human health. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of extremely sensitive, portable, and low-cost devices to perform analysis. In the present review article, recent reports on the application of various voltammetric and photo-electrochemical techniques using different electrode materials for the determination of antibiotic Ciprofloxacin (CIPRO) are reported. This review provides an insight into direct and indirect electrochemical approaches as well as the photoelectrochemical methods used for the determination of CIPRO. Emphasis is put on the applications of unmodified and modified carbon-based electrodes considering the modifier, supporting electrolytes, analytical method, concentration range, limit of detection, and real matrices. Carbon-based electrodes are the most used materials attributed to their commercial availability, reduced cost, high chemical stability, and non-toxicity.

Abstract
The strong development of mankind is inseparable from the proper use of drugs, and the electroanalytical research of drugs occupies an important position in the field of analytical chemistry. This review mainly elaborates the research progress of drugs electroanalysis based on direct electrochemical redox on various electrodes for the recent decade from 2011 to 2021. At first, we summarize some frequently used electrochemical data processing and electrochemical mechanism research derivation methods in the literature. Then, according to the drug therapeutic and application/usage purposes, the research progress of drugs electrochemical analysis is classified and discussed, where we focus on drugs electrochemical reaction mechanism. At the same time, the comparisons of electrochemical sensing performance of the drugs on various electrodes from recent studies are listed, so that readers can more intuitively compare and understand the electroanalytical sensing performance of each modified electrode for each of the drug. Finally, this review discusses the shortcomings and prospects of the drugs electroanalysis based on direct electrochemical redox research.

Abstract
Antibiotic pollution in water has become an increasingly serious problem, posing a potentially huge threat to human health. Ofloxacin (OFL), norfloxacin (NOR), and enoxacin (ENX) are typical broad-spectrum quinolone antibiotics, which are frequently detected in various water environments. An electrochemical sensor is a rapid and effective tool to detect antibiotics in the aquatic environment. The molecular structure of target pollutants is an important factor affecting the detection performance of electrochemical sensors. Based on the electrochemical detection results of antibiotics (OFL, NOR, and ENX), we first used the molecular structure analysis method based on quantum chemistry to accurately identify the electronegativity and the electrocatalytic degree of the oxidizable (and non-oxidizable) functional groups of pollutants. We also clarified the influence mechanism of the molecular structure on the peak current and peak potential. These results can provide theoretical support for rapidly selecting electrodes with a suitable electrochemical window to efficiently detect trace organic pollutants (such as antibiotics) in water based on the molecular structure of the target pollutant.

Abstract
Misuse of antibiotics has recently been considered a global issue because of its harmful effects on human health. Since conventional methods have numerous limitations, it is necessary to develop fast, simple, sensitive, and reproducible methods for the detection of antibiotics. Among numerous recently developed methods, aptasensors are fascinating because of their good specificity, sensitivity and selectivity. These kinds of biosensors combining aptamer with colorimetric applications of gold nanoparticles to recognize small molecules are becoming more popular owing to their advantageous features, for example, low cost, ease of use, on-site analysis ability using naked eye and no prerequisite for modern equipment. In this review, we have highlighted the recent advances and working principle of gold nanoparticles based colorimetric aptasensors as promising methods for antibiotics detection in different food and environmental samples (2011–2020). Furthermore, possible advantages and disadvantages have also been summarized for these methods. Finally, the recent challenges, outlook, and promising future perspectives for developing novel aptasensors are also considered.
