Effectiveness of a psychological intervention focused on stress management for women prior to IVF

Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the COMPI Fertility Problem Stress Scale-Short Form for infertile women

OBJECTIVE

To translate and culturally adapt the COMPI Fertility Problem Stress Scale-Short form (COMPI-FPSS-SF) and to test its reliability and validity in China.

METHODS

The cross-sectional study adopted Brislin's translation model to translate, synthesize, back-translate, and cross-culturally adapt the COMPI-FPSS-SF for the Chinese setting. A total of 279 infertile women were invited to participate in the study to test the reliability and validity of the scale between March and June 2021.

RESULTS

It was verified that the Chinese version of the COMPI-FPSS-SF has three domains with nine items. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.907, and the coefficient for each dimension ranged from 0.760 to 0.855. The test-retest validity was 0.891. The exploratory factor analysis extracted three common factors with eigenvalues of 4.499, 1.124, and 1.011 and a cumulative variance contribution of 73.706. The validity factor analysis showed good results for the three-factor structure fit. The criterion-related validity with the Fertility Inventory Short-Form Scale was 0.649. The above analysis revealed statistically significant differences (P < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONS

The Chinese version of the COMPI-FPSS-SF can be used for the assessment of fertility-related stress in infertility patients in China with good reliability and validity.

The impact of relationship status on IVF patients' quality of life

Infertility treatments are emotionally taxing and include invasive and time-consuming procedures over extended periods of time. In light of the growing numbers of single mothers by choice, the objective of this study was to apply the Conservation of Resources Theory in the context of infertility care and examine whether relationship status constitutes a psychological resource that buffers the decline in quality of life during IVF treatments. We used the FertiQol questionnaire to compare the quality of life of IVF patients between 422 patients who are involved in a couple relationship ("attached") and 117 patients who are not ("unattached"). Results show that the total FertiQol was significantly higher among the attached participants; the Core FertiQol and the Treatment FertiQol were rated higher by the "attached." No significant differences were found between the attached and unattached for the Emotional and Social subscales. "unattached" participants report significantly lower levels of quality of life in the "mind-body" and "treatment tolerability" subscales than the "attached" participants. It is concluded that being involved in a long-term couple relationship is to be seen as a resource that buffers the decline in quality of life of infertile women undergoing IVF treatments.

Effectiveness of double ABCX-based psychotherapy for psychological distress among women undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer: a three-arm randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of double ABCX-based psychotherapy for psychological distress during in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) among a female group (FG), couple group (CoG) and control group (CG).

METHODS

A total of 201 women undergoing their first IVF-ET cycle were randomized into three groups. The 6-session intervention was delivered at each visit to the IVF clinic. The primary outcomes were depression and anxiety, and the secondary outcomes included sleep quality, serum cortisol (nmol/L) levels and the clinical pregnancy rate, which were assessed before and after the intervention.

RESULTS

The group-by-time effects were significant for depression, anxiety, sleep quality and serum cortisol levels, with larger effect sizes in the FG than in the CoG. There was no significant difference in the pregnancy rate among the three groups.

CONCLUSION

Psychotherapy effectively mitigated psychological distress, suggesting greater effectiveness for couples undergoing IVF couples than for women only. It is structured and easy to use during the IVF treatment cycle.

No Baby to Bring Home: Perinatal Loss, Infertility, and Mental Illness-Overview and Recommendations for Care

PURPOSE OF REVIEW

Update readers on the state of the research on mental health, perinatal loss, and infertility with a focus on providing a comprehensive overview to empower clinicians in treating this population.

RECENT FINDINGS

Rates of psychiatric illness are increased in people that experience perinatal loss and infertility. The research remains largely below the clear need for focused screening, prevention, and treatment. Clinicians and researchers need to remain attuned to the impact of perinatal loss and infertility on the mental health of patients and families. Screening, referral, and expanded therapeutic and psychiatric resources are imperative to improving the well-being of these patients and families.

Interventions promoting mental health dimensions in infertile women: a systematic review

BACKGROUND

Scientific developments have brought hope to infertile couples; however, the results are not always favorable. This makes women suffer psychological pressure. Therefore, previous studies have investigated the effectiveness of many psychological interventions but no research identified the most common psychological interventions. In this regard, the present review aimed to investigate different psychological interventions that promote mental health in infertile to identify the most frequent (common) ones.

METHODS

In the present study, the search was carried out using appropriate keywords Infertility, psychological interventions, mental health, stress, anxiety, depression and women in the Google Scholar، Magiran، SID، Pubmed، Scopus، Science Direct، ProQuest، Web of Science databases and One of the leading websites in health- WHO with Persian and English languages and two operators of "AND" and "OR" between 2000 and 2021.

RESULTS

First, 7319 articles were searched, 6948 articles of which were removed due to irrelevant subjects, and 31 articles were removed due to duplication. 340 abstracts were examined and the results of 60 articles were extracted. Two approaches (examining the type and content of intervention) were used to extract findings. The first approach indicated high diversity in psychological interventions, leading to the categorization of the interventions into 4 categories of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mind-body interventions (MBI), stress management skills, and others. CBT and MBI and stress management skills were found as the most frequent promoting interventions for mental health in infertile women. The second approach indicated the differences in protocols (number of sessions and time of interventions).

CONCLUSION

Despite differences in protocol of interventions under study, the results of all articles revealed the effectiveness of interventions in improving infertile women's mental health; therefore, it is suggested to apply the most common psychological interventions based on scientific evidence (CBT, MBI, and stress management skills) along with infertility treatment methods. The results will help the specialists, policy-makers, and planners to select and implement the most appropriate psychological interventions for infertile women.

Effectiveness of a mixed lifestyle program in couples undergoing assisted reproductive technology: a study protocol

BACKGROUND

The desire for fertility is the manifestation of yearning for immortality. Infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART) expose couples to great affective, anxiety, stress, and financial burden. Increasing evidence emphasize the impact of lifestyle on infertility. One of the most crucial factors affecting the fertility process is the nutrition patterns, the amount and quality of physical activities, emotional problems management; modulate stressors, relief from anxiety, and the living conditions of couples. Most ART treatment interventions in Iran are not integrated into lifestyle programs. Therefore, this research will investigate the impact of mixed fertility health-promoting programs in couples who use ARTs.

METHODOLOGY/DESIGN

This study entails three steps. The first step includes the systematic review of literature on a health-promoting lifestyle in infertile couples undergoing ARTs, a systematic review of observational studies and interventions in couple's lifestyle, then, a systematic review of qualitative studies on infertility in couples and their lifestyle, and in the final step couple's life style literature systematically will evaluate in Iran. In case of failure to obtain the required results from systematic reviews, cross-sectional studies will be carried out to determine the lifestyle of infertile couples receiving ARTs. In the second stage, by holding a panel of experts, an intervention is planned based on the results of the previous stages in order to improve the lifestyle of couples. In the final step, the designed intervention will be administered as a random clinical trial-on ART candidates, in intervention or control groups in one of Iran University of Medical Sciences hospitals. Afterward, the data's will be evaluated by using standard questionnaires, that include health-promoting lifestyle questionnaire (HPLII), Beck's depression inventory (BDI), international physical activity questionnaire-short form (IPAQ-SF), and food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The statistical analysis will be carried out in SPSS software. During the study, subjects meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly selected and randomized into the intervention and control groups. The health-promoting lifestyle training program will be executed for the intervention group while the standard care program is administered to the control group. The content of this program will be obtained from the consensus opinions of the expert panel. The program includes diet recommendations, physical activity, and stress management. Appropriate time, frequency, duration and number of activities will be considered. Communication with subjects will be possible through private meeting special comfort room. Support to the participants will also be through clinical visits social media, SMS and phone calls. Nutritional changes, physical activity amount, anxiety and stress level, abdominal circumference (AC), and body mass index (BMI) will be measured after the completion of the specified time interval. The initial outcome includes examining chemical pregnancy (2 weeks after the transmission) and clinical pregnancy by ultrasound (6 weeks after). The secondary outcome will be live birth rate. Retrieved oocyte and embryo numbers will also be reported.

DISCUSSION

Health-promoting lifestyle programs are essential in assisted reproductive technologies to improve pregnancy results and live birth. These programs in association with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) influence the outcome of fertilization. In addition, enhancing parental health leads to healthy pregnancy outcome. Despite the frequency of lifestyle risk factors, employing proper methods helps reduce anxiety and stress, modify dietary patterns, and perform qualitatively and quantitatively balanced physical activities. In addition, having coping skills and mental health management methods, in nowadays modern world challenges seems crucial and effective in solving fertility problems and reducing them before pregnancy.

Mental health in women undergoing gynecological surgery at risk of infertility

Surgery for benign gynecologic conditions may lead to infertility complications. In a cross-sectional study we investigated depressive and anxiety symptoms, Quality of Life (QoL), and coping strategies in women with benign gynecologic conditions undergoing surgical treatment (G1, N = 45) compared with women that did not need surgery (G2, N = 43), through the Patient's Health Questionnaire, the Short Form Health Survey-12 items, the Self-Rating Anxiety State, and the Brief COPE. Statistical analyses showed that women in G1 had significant higher depressive (p=.04) and anxiety (p=.03) symptoms, and lower QoL (p=.01), than did those in G2. Moreover, women with more depressive or anxiety symptoms in both groups were more likely to present maladaptive coping modalities. A careful evaluation of the mental health of women undergoing gynecological surgery at risk of infertility should be included in the care for benign gynecologic conditions, in order to prevent psychosocial distress and alleviate the burden on QoL.

Psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the FertiQoL measure in couples undergoing infertility treatment

BACKGROUND

Both the diagnosis and the process of undergoing fertility treatment have a considerable negative effect on a person's quality of life (QoL). The evaluation of this effect is essential to offer comprehensive and high-quality care. The FertiQoL questionnaire is the most widely used instrument to evaluate QoL in people with fertility issues.

OBJECTIVE

This study is aimed at examining the dimensionality, validity and reliability of the Spanish version of the FertiQoL questionnaire in a sample of Spanish heterosexual couples undergoing fertility treatment.

METHODS

FertiQoL was administered to 500 people (50.2% women; 49.8% men; average age 36.1 years) recruited from a public Assisted Reproduction Unit in Spain. In this cross-sectional study, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to analyse the dimensionality, validity and reliability of FertiQoL. Discriminant and convergent validity were assessed using the Average Variance Extracted (AVE), and model reliability was shown by Composite Reliability (CR) and Cronbach's alpha.

RESULTS

CFA's results support the 6-factor solution of the original FertiQoL (RMSEA and SRMR <0.09; CFI and TLI >0.9). However, several items had to be eliminated due to their low factorial weights - in particular, items Q4, Q5, Q6, Q11, Q14, Q15 and Q21. Moreover, FertiQoL showed good reliability (CR >0.7) and validity (AVE >0.5).

CONCLUSION

The Spanish version of FertiQoL is a reliable and valid instrument in measuring QoL in heterosexual couples undergoing fertility treatment. The CFA confirms the original 6-factors model but indicates that by eliminating some items the psychometric properties could improve. However, further research is recommended to address some of the measurement issues.

Efficacy of psychological interventions for mental health and pregnancy rates among individuals with infertility: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND

Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent among individuals struggling with infertility. Thus, numerous psychological interventions have been adapted to infertility, with the aim of relieving distress as well as increasing pregnancy rates.

OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of psychological interventions on infertility-related distress and pregnancy rates among individuals and/or couples with infertility and to analyse their overall effect. It also sought to examine potential treatment moderators, including intervention length, format and therapeutic approach.

SEARCH METHODS

An electronic search of 11 databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, was performed for studies published until January 2022. The inclusion criteria were RCTs conducted on humans and published in English. Psychological outcomes of interest included anxiety, depression, infertility-related distress, wellbeing and marital satisfaction. The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was used to assess study quality, and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation was used to assess the overall quality of the research evidence.

OUTCOMES

There were 58 RCTs in total, including 54 which included psychological outcomes and 21 which assessed pregnancy rates. Studies originated from all regions of the world, but nearly half of the studies were from the Middle East. Although a beneficial effect on combined psychological outcomes was found (Hedge's g = 0.82, P < 0.0001), it was moderated by region (P < 0.00001) such that studies from the Middle East exhibited large effects (g = 1.40, P < 0.0001), while the effects were small among studies conducted elsewhere (g = 0.23, P < 0.0001). Statistically adjusting for study region in a meta-regression, neither intervention length, therapeutic approach, therapy format, nor participant gender (P > 0.05) moderated the effect of treatment. A beneficial treatment effect on pregnancy (RR (95% CI) = 1.25 (1.07-1.47), P = 0.005) was not moderated by region, treatment length, approach or format (P > 0.05). Largely due to the lack of high quality RCTs, the quality of the available evidence was rated as low to moderate.

WIDER IMPLICATIONS

This is the first meta-analysis of RCTs testing the effect of psychological interventions on infertility-related distress and pregnancy rates. These findings suggest that in most regions of the world, psychological interventions are associated with small reductions in distress and modest effects on conception, suggesting the need for more effective interventions. These findings must be considered in light of the fact that the majority of the included RCTs were deemed to be at high risk of bias. Rigorously conducted trials are needed.

Global Research Trends on Infertility and Psychology From the Past Two Decades: A Bibliometric and Visualized Study

Objectives

The aim of this study was to evaluate the global scientific output of research on infertility and psychology; explore the current status and trends in this field through the cooperation of authors, countries, and institutions; shed light on the direction of clinical infertility research in the future, and provide inspiration for targeted diagnosis and treatment of infertility.

Methods

Research publications on infertility and psychology from the past two decades were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Bibliometric analyses were performed using VOSviewer software and the bibliometrix R package. Network maps were generated to evaluate the collaborations between different authors, countries, institutions, and keywords.

Results

A total of 151 articles related to the study of infertility and psychology were identified. We observed a gradual increase in the number of publications from 2001 to 2021, and the trend has been relatively stable in the past eight years. Human Reproduction (England), as the leading journal publishing the most papers (29 articles), was cited in the most journals (1208 times). Boivin J was the most prolific author (16 articles), with the largest number of citations (890 times) and the highest h-index (14) during the past decades. Boivin J was also the leader with the highest publication frequency and more active cooperation with other top authors. The United Kingdom (34 papers) and Cardiff University (25 articles) contributed the most publications and were the leading contributors in this field. Active cooperation between countries and between institutions was observed, and analyses of articles and references were also shown. The main hot topics included matters related to women (39 times), in-vitro salt (31 times), infertility (30 times), couples (25 times), and impact (24 times).

Conclusion

Our study results provide a comprehensive overview of the development of scientific literature, allowing relevant authors and research teams to recognize the current research status in this field. At the same time, infertility and psychology may soon become hotspots and should be closely monitored.

Effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation and laughter therapy on mental health and treatment outcomes in women undergoing in vitro fertilization: A randomized controlled trial

A majority of infertile women experience emotional problems, such as anxiety and depression. Nurses need nonpharmacological methods rather than drugs to address women's emotional distress during the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation exercises and laughter therapy on the mental health and treatment outcomes of women receiving IVF treatment. This parallel-group, randomized controlled trial was conducted in a private IVF center. Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group (IG; n = 71) and control group (CG; n = 70). The IG received progressive muscle relaxation and laughter therapy for 40 min in each session for 3-4 sessions, whereas the CG received routine care. Data were obtained from the patient information form, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and medical records. The questionnaire was completed at recruitment (T1) and oocyte pick-up day (T2). In the evaluation performed on the day of the oocyte pick-up, depression and trait anxiety scores of the IG were found to be lower than those in the CG, and the effect size was small. Group × time interaction was significant for depression (large effect size) and trait anxiety (small effect size). The estradiol levels, the number of oocytes, transfer status, and pregnancy rates (according to a blood test) were similar between groups. Women receiving IVF treatment who received progressive muscle relaxation and laughter therapy demonstrated psychological changes; however, the treatment did not affect medical outcomes.

A Systematic Review of Interventions Targeting Infertility-Related Distress: A Search for Active Ingredients

Various psychological interventions have been developed to combat negative mental and physical health effects of infertility. However, it is unknown if there are common elements, or "active ingredients," between interventions. This review examined which active ingredients were present among psychological interventions targeting the impacts of infertility. Using a predetermined search strategy, 72 articles and 22 active ingredients were identified. Relaxation/stress management was found to be the most common treatment element. Future research should investigate which active ingredients are most effective for reducing infertility-related stressors so clinicians and researchers can create and implement treatments that contain essential and effective components.

Effect of Psychological Intervention Combined with Family Cooperation on the Perioperative Quality of Life and Psychological States of Elderly Patients with Prostate Cancer Treated with Compound Kushen Injection

Objective

The purpose of the study was to investigate the nursing effect of psychological intervention combined with family cooperation on elderly patients with prostate cancer treated with compound kushen injection and put forward effective suggestions.

Methods

122 elderly patients with prostate cancer admitted to our hospital from June 2018 to June 2019 were selected and randomly divided into a control group (n = 61) and experimental group (n = 61). The patients in the control group received routine nursing intervention during the perioperative period, while the patients in the experimental group were treated with psychological intervention combined with family cooperation on the basis of routine nursing. The quality of life and psychological states of patients in the two groups were statistically analyzed.

Results

The evaluation of psychological states at 24 hours before surgery and 24 hours before discharge in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group (P < 0.05), with statistical significance. On comparing the basic conditions between the two groups in the perioperative period, the length of hospitalization, length of catheter retention after surgery, and incidence of complications in the experimental group were all significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05), with statistical significance. The satisfaction of patients with the nursing process in both groups was recorded and statistically analyzed through questionnaires. The satisfaction with nursing process in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05), with statistical significance. The quality of life of the patients was followed up at three months after discharge. The quality of life of the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group (P < 0.05), with statistical significance.

Conclusion

Psychological intervention combined with family cooperation for the elderly patients with prostate cancer treated with compound kushen injection is beneficial to improve their psychological states, encourage them to face the disease in a more positive manner, effectively improve the quality of life after intervention, ensure the therapeutic effect during perioperative period, increase happiness index, and enhance their satisfaction with the nursing process, which is worthy of clinical application and popularization.

The Efficacy of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the Treatment of Female Infertility

Female infertility is a state of fertility disorder caused by multiple reasons. The incidence of infertility for females has significantly increased due to various factors such as social pressure, late marriage, and late childbirth, and its harm includes heavy economic burden, psychological shadow, and even marriage failure. Conventional solutions, such as hormone therapy, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and embryo transfer, have the limitations of unsatisfied obstetric outcomes and serious adverse events. Currently, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), as a new treatment for infertility, is gradually challenging the dominant position of traditional therapies in the treatment of infertility. CAM claims that it can adjust and harmonize the state of the female body from a holistic approach to achieve a better therapeutic effect and has been increasingly used by infertile women. Meanwhile, some controversial issues also appeared; that is, some randomized controlled trials (RCTs) confirmed that CAM had no obvious effect on infertility, and the mechanism of its effect could not reach a consensus. To clarify CAM effectiveness, safety, and mechanism, this paper systematically reviewed the literature about its treatment of female infertility collected from PubMed and CNKI databases and mainly introduced acupuncture, moxibustion, and oral Chinese herbal medicine. In addition, we also briefly summarized psychological intervention, biosimilar electrical stimulation, homeopathy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, etc.

Life on pause: An analysis of UK fertility patients’ coping mechanisms after the cancellation of fertility treatment due to COVID-19

In March 2020, fertility clinics across the UK began cancelling all assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment, with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) stopping all ART treatment from going ahead beyond the 15th April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This article examines the coping mechanisms adopted by fertility patients during this time, focussing on the emotional support received from online fertility forums and fertility clinics during the indeterminate wait for treatment to resume. The study draws upon an online survey which assessed the mental health and wellbeing of 124 female fertility patients whose ART treatment was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The findings indicate a potential for improved communication between fertility clinics and patients in order to reduce psychological stress and isolation during the postponement of ART treatment, alongside better utilisation of online platforms as mechanisms for support. This article adds to the growing body of knowledge concerned with the implications of denying reproductive rights to the infertility community during a global pandemic. It also contributes to sociological discussions on the support mechanisms available to those navigating infertility and the wider social management of uncertainty.

Neurophysiology of cognitive behavioural therapy, deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation used in conjunction with ART treatments: a narrative review

BACKGROUND

Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. It could be due to male or female factors, each requiring different treatment options. ART treatment exposes couples to numerous psychological stressors. Therefore, it has been recommended by the ESHRE Psychology and Counselling Guideline Development Group recently that psychosocial support should be offered as a complementary therapy during infertility treatments. In this context, the efficiency of different psychological interventions, such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), deep breathing (DB), and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), was evaluated in several clinical trials in terms of couples' mental health and pregnancy outcomes.

OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE

The neurophysiology of CBT, DB and PMR, which are used in interventional studies, in both men and women undergoing ART, has not yet been fully elucidated. This review represents a comprehensive report, aiming to collate novel insights into the neurobiological processes and physiological mechanisms that occur during the practice of CBT, DB and PMR.

SEARCH METHODS

PubMed, Google Scholar and Cochrane Library were interrogated to conduct this comprehensive literature review. The search was carried out using combinations of MeSH terms and keywords: infertility, assisted reproductive techniques, IVF, ICSI, emotions, psychological stress, cognitive behavioural therapy, mind-body therapies and relaxation. Relevant information related to the mechanism of action of stress management techniques were obtained from original articles and reviews published in English without taking into consideration the time of publication. Moreover, as it was not the major focus of the review, only recent systematic reviews (2015-2019) pinpointing the effects of psychological interventions on infertility treatment outcomes were also retrieved from the above-mentioned databases.

OUTCOMES

CBT, DB and PMR may modify the activity of stress-related brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, hypothalamus and hippocampus, as demonstrated by functional MRI and electroencephalogram studies. Furthermore, applying these techniques was associated with mood improvements and a decline in stress biomarkers, and, hypothetically, reducing stress biomarkers attenuates the stress-induced effects on ART outcomes.

WIDER IMPLICATIONS

Increasing the knowledge of fertility staff, researchers and physicians regarding the mechanisms of action of these stress management techniques has several advantages. For instance, understanding the underlying neurophysiological pathways would assist practitioners to engage ART couples in the practice of these techniques. Also, it may enhance the quality of the support programmes and psychological research. Accordingly, this will ensure that these interventions reach their full potential and therefore improve clinical outcomes.

Effects of psychological intervention for Korean infertile women under In Vitro Fertilization on infertility stress, depression, intimacy, sexual satisfaction and fatigue

This quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was conducted to evaluate the effects of a psychological intervention program for 50 women with infertility (experimental group: 26, control group: 24) utilizing assisted reproductive technology. The experimental group received six four-hour sessions of intervention, with outcomes measured at baseline and four weeks post-intervention. The experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in marital intimacy (z = 6.528, p < .001) and sexual satisfaction (z = 3.148, p = .003) and significant reductions in depression (z = -4.850, p < .001) and fatigue (z = -4.597, p < .001). Thus, the program can alleviate depression and fatigue. Further, psychological intervention centered on the marital and personal dimensions may improve marital intimacy and sexual satisfaction.
