Abstract
It is often the case that serious, end-stage manifestations of disease result from secondary complications in organs distinct from the initial site of injury or infection. This is particularly true of diseases of the heart-lung axis, given the tight anatomical connections of the two organs within a common cavity in which they collectively orchestrate the two major, intertwined circulatory pathways. Immune cells and the soluble mediators they secrete serve as effective, and targetable, messengers of signals between different regions of the body but can also contribute to the spread of pathology. In this review, we discuss the immunological basis of interorgan communication between the heart and lung in various common diseases, and in the context of organ crosstalk more generally. Gaining a greater understanding of how the heart and lung communicate in health and disease, and viewing disease progression generally from a more holistic, whole-body viewpoint have the potential to inform new diagnostic approaches and strategies for better prevention and treatment of comorbidities.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the 30 and 60-day survival of critically ill patients with COVID-19 and AKI. METHODS Inflammatory and biochemical biomarkers, length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay and mortality at Day 30 and Day 60 after ICU admission were analyzed. A total of 44 patients treated with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) with cytokine adsorber (CA group) were compared to 58 patients treated with CRRT alone (non-CA group). RESULTS Patients in CA group were younger, had better preserved kidney function prior to the beginning of CRRT and had higher levels of interleukin-6. There were no statistically significant differences in their comorbidities and in other measured biomarkers between the two groups. The number of patients who died 60 days after ICU admission was statistically significantly higher in non-CA group (p = 0.029). CONCLUSION Treatment with CRRT and cytokine adsorber may have positively influenced 60-day survival in our COVID-19 ICU patients with AKI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited data existed on the burden of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) renal complications and the outcomes of the most critical patients who required kidney replacement therapy (KRT) during intensive care unit (ICU) stay. We aimed to describe mortality and renal function at 90 days in patients admitted for COVID-19 and KRT. METHODS A retrospective cohort study of critically ill patients admitted for COVID-19 and requiring KRT from March 2020 to January 2022 was conducted in an Italian ICU from a tertiary care hospital. Primary outcome was mortality at 90 days and secondary outcome was kidney function at 90 days. RESULTS A cohort of 45 patients was analyzed. Mortality was 60% during ICU stay and increased from 64% at the time of hospital discharge to 71% at 90 days. Among 90-day survivors, 31% required dialysis, 38% recovered incompletely, and 31% completely recovered renal function. The probability of being alive and dialysis-free at 3 months was 22%. CONCLUSIONS Critically ill patients with COVID-19 disease requiring KRT during ICU stay had elevated mortality rate at 90 days, with low probability of being alive and dialysis-free at 3 months. However, a non-negligible number of patients completely recovered renal function.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Acute kidney injury (AKI) is frequent in critically ill COVID-19 patients and is associated with a higher mortality risk. By increasing intrathoracic pressure, positive pressure ventilation (PPV) may reduce renal perfusion pressure by reducing venous return to the heart or by increasing renal venous congestion. This study's aim was to evaluate the association between AKI and haemodynamic and ventilatory parameters in COVID-19 patients with ARDS. METHODS This is a single-centre retrospective observational study. Consecutive patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who met ARDS criteria and required invasive mechanical ventilation were enrolled. The relationship between respiratory and haemodynamic parameters influenced by PPV and AKI development was evaluated. AKI was defined according to KDIGO criteria. AKI recovery was evaluated a month after ICU admission and patients were classified as "recovered," if serum creatinine (sCr) value returned to baseline, or as having "acute kidney disease" (AKD), if criteria for AKI stage 1 or greater persisted. The 6-month all-cause mortality was collected. RESULTS A total of 144 patients were included in the analysis. AKI occurred in 69 (48%) patients and 26 (18%) required renal replacement therapy. In a multivariate logistic regression analysis, sex, hypertension, cumulative dose of furosemide, fluid balance, and plateau pressure were independently associated with AKI. Mortality at 6 months was 50% in the AKI group and 32% in the non-AKI group (p = 0.03). Among 36 patients who developed AKI and were discharged alive from the hospital, 56% had a full renal recovery after a month, while 14%, 6%, and 14% were classified as having an AKD of stage 0, 2, and 3, respectively. CONCLUSIONS In our cohort, AKI was independently associated with multiple variables, including high plateau pressure, suggesting a possible role of PPV on AKI development. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of mechanical ventilation on renal function.

Abstract
The homeostasis and health of an organism depend on the coordinated interaction of specialized organs, which is regulated by interorgan communication networks of circulating soluble molecules and neuronal connections. Many diseases that seemingly affect one primary organ are really multiorgan diseases, with substantial secondary remote organ complications that underlie a large part of their morbidity and mortality. Acute kidney injury (AKI) frequently occurs in critically ill patients with multiorgan failure and is associated with high mortality, particularly when it occurs together with respiratory failure. Inflammatory lung lesions in patients with kidney failure that could be distinguished from pulmonary oedema due to volume overload were first reported in the 1930s, but have been largely overlooked in clinical settings. A series of studies over the past two decades have elucidated acute and chronic kidney-lung and lung-kidney interorgan communication networks involving various circulating inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, metabolites, uraemic toxins, immune cells and neuro-immune pathways. Further investigations are warranted to understand these clinical entities of high morbidity and mortality, and to develop effective treatments.

Abstract
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with impaired outcomes in critically ill COVID-19 patients. However, the prognostic significance of early AKI is poorly described. We aimed to determine whether AKI on admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) and its development within the first 48 h predict the need for renal replacement therapy (RRT) and increased mortality. An analysis of 372 patients with COVID-19 pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation without advanced chronic kidney disease from 2020 to 2021 was performed. The AKI stages on ICU admission and Day 2 were determined using adapted KDIGO criteria. The early development of renal function was assessed by the change in AKI score and the Day-2/Day-0 creatinine ratio. Data were compared between three consecutive COVID-19 waves and with data before the pandemic. Both ICU and 90-day mortality (79% and 93% vs. 35% and 44%) and the need for RRT increased markedly with advanced AKI stage on ICU admission. Similarly, an early increase in AKI stage and creatinine implied highly increased mortality. RRT was associated with very high ICU and 90-day mortality (72% and 85%), even surpassing that of patients on ECMO. No difference was found between consecutive COVID-19 waves, except for a lower mortality in the patients on RRT in the last omicron wave. Mortality and need for RRT were comparable in the COVID-19 and pre-COVID-19 patients, except that RRT did not increase ICU mortality in the pre-COVID-19 era. In conclusion, we confirmed the prognostic significance of both AKI on ICU admission and its early development in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to compare the characteristics and outcomes of critically ill patients with COVID-19-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) who were treated with kidney replacement therapy (KRT) in the first and second waves of the pandemic in the megalopolis of Sao Paulo, Brazil. METHODS A multicenter retrospective study was conducted in 10 intensive care units (ICUs). Patients aged ≥18 years, and treated with KRT due to COVID-19-associated AKI were included. We compared demographic, laboratory and clinical data, KRT parameters and patient outcomes in the first and second COVID-19 waves. RESULTS We assessed 656 patients (327 in the first wave and 329 in the second one). Second-wave patients were admitted later (7.1±5.0 vs. 5.6±3.9 days after the onset of symptoms, p<0.001), were younger (61.4±13.7 vs. 63.8±13.6 years, p = 0.023), had a lower frequency of diabetes (37.1% vs. 47.1%, p = 0.009) and obesity (29.5% vs. 40.0%, p = 0.007), had a greater need for vasopressors (93.3% vs. 84.6%, p<0.001) and mechanical ventilation (95.7% vs. 87.8%, p<0.001), and had higher lethality (84.8% vs. 72.7%, p<0.001) than first-wave patients. KRT quality markers were independently associated with a reduction in the OR for death in both pandemic waves. CONCLUSIONS In the Sao Paulo megalopolis, the lethality of critically ill patients with COVID-19-associated AKI treated with KRT was higher in the second wave of the pandemic, despite these patients being younger and having fewer comorbidities. Potential factors related to this poor outcome were difficulties in health care access, lack of intra-hospital resources, delay vaccination and virus variants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients who develop in-hospital acute kidney injury (AKI) have worse short-term outcomes, their long-term outcomes have not been fully characterized. We investigated 90-day and 1-year outcomes after hospital AKI grouped by time to recovery from AKI. METHODS This study consisted of 3296 COVID-19 patients with hospital AKI stratified by early recovery (<48 hours), delayed recovery (2-7 days) and prolonged recovery (>7-90 days). Demographics, comorbidities and laboratory values were obtained at admission and up to the 1-year follow-up. The incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse kidney events (MAKE), rehospitalization, recurrent AKI and new-onset chronic kidney disease (CKD) were obtained 90-days after COVID-19 discharge. RESULTS The incidence of hospital AKI was 28.6%. Of the COVID-19 patients with AKI, 58.0% experienced early recovery, 14.8% delayed recovery and 27.1% prolonged recovery. Patients with a longer AKI recovery time had a higher prevalence of CKD (P < .05) and were more likely to need invasive mechanical ventilation (P < .001) and to die (P < .001). Many COVID-19 patients developed MAKE, recurrent AKI and new-onset CKD within 90 days, and these incidences were higher in the prolonged recovery group (P < .05). The incidence of MACE peaked 20-40 days postdischarge, whereas MAKE peaked 80-90 days postdischarge. Logistic regression models predicted 90-day MACE and MAKE with 82.4 ± 1.6% and 79.6 ± 2.3% accuracy, respectively. CONCLUSION COVID-19 survivors who developed hospital AKI are at high risk for adverse cardiovascular and kidney outcomes, especially those with longer AKI recovery times and those with a history of CKD. These patients may require long-term follow-up for cardiac and kidney complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the clinical profile of COVID-19 inpatients who were vaccinated prior to hospitalization and to compare the risk factors for death and the 28-day survival rate of between those inpatients vaccinated with one, two, or three doses and unvaccinated COVID-19 inpatients. METHODS This was a retrospective observational cohort study involving COVID-19 patients admitted to a referral hospital in the city of Recife, Brazil, between July of 2020 and June of 2022. RESULTS The sample comprised 1,921 inpatients, 996 of whom (50.8%) were vaccinated prior to hospitalization. After adjusting the mortality risk for vaccinated patients, those undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) had the highest mortality risk (adjusted OR [aOR] = 7.4; 95% CI, 3.8-14.1; p < 0.001), followed by patients > 80 years of age (aOR = 7.3; 95% CI, 3.4-15.4; p < 0.001), and those needing vasopressors (aOR = 5.6; 95% CI, 2.9-10.9; p < 0.001). After adjusting the mortality risk for all patients, having received three vaccine doses (aOR = 0.06; 95% CI, 0.03-0.11; p < 0.001) was the most important protective factor against death. There were progressive benefits of vaccination, reducing the frequency of ICU admissions, use for IMV, and death (respectively, from 44.9%, 39.0% and 39.9% after the first dose to 16.7%, 6.2% and 4.4% after the third dose), as well as significant improvements in survival after each subsequent dose (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Vaccines were effective in reducing illness severity and death in this cohort of COVID-19 inpatients, and the administration of additional doses conferred them with accumulative vaccine protection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An alarming number of COVID-19 patients, especially in severe cases, have developed acute kidney injury (AKI). AIM The study aimed to assess the frequency, risk factors, and impact of AKI on mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients. METHODS The study was a retrospective observational study conducted in the MICU. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify risk factors for AKI and clinical outcomes. RESULTS During the study period, 465 consecutive COVID-19 patients were admitted to the MICU. The patients' characteristics were median age, 64 [54-71] years; median SAPSII, 31 [24-38]; and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), 244 (52.5%). The overall ICU mortality rate was 49%. Two hundred twenty-nine (49.2%) patients developed AKI. The factors independently associated with AKI were positive fluid balance (OR, 2.78; 95%CI [1.88-4.11]; p < 0.001), right heart failure (OR, 2.15; 95%CI [1.25-3.67]; p = 0.005), and IMV use (OR, 1.55; 95%CI [1.01-2.40]; p = 0.044). Among the AKI patients, multivariate analysis identified the following factors as independently associated with ICU mortality: age (OR, 1.05; 95%CI [1.02-1.09]; p = 0.012), IMV use (OR, 48.23; 95%CI [18.05-128.89]; p < 0.001), and septic shock (OR, 3.65; 95%CI [1.32-10.10]; p = 0.012). CONCLUSION The present study revealed a high proportion of AKI among critically ill COVID-19 patients. This complication seems to be linked to a severe cardiopulmonary interaction and fluid balance management, thus accounting for a poor outcome.

Abstract
Exogenous catecholamines may have pronounced side effects and affect physiological cascades. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of vasopressors on mortality of critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and ClinicalTrials.gov was conducted for relevant articles until December 2022. Eligibility criteria were randomized controlled and non-randomized trials. The primary outcome was in-hospital and 30-day mortality. The quality of studies was assessed using the Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) tool, while paired meta-analysis was used to estimate the pooled risk ratios (RR) along with their 95% Confidence Interval (95% CI). Analyses of 22 studies (n = 8034) revealed that vasopressor use is associated with mortality compared to no vasopressor therapy [RR (95%CI): 4.30 (3.21, 5.75); p < 0.001]. In-hospital and 30-day mortality are significantly higher in patients who receive vasopressors [RR (95%CI): 4.60 (2.47, 8.55); p < 0.001 and RR (95%CI): 2.97 (1.72, 5.14); p < 0.001, respectively]. Also, analyses of data from 10 studies (n = 3519) revealed that vasopressor use is associated with acute kidney injury [RR (95%CI): 3.17 (2.21, 4.54); p < 0.001]. In conclusion, current use of vasopressors in critically ill patients with COVID-19 may be associated with higher in-hospital mortality, 30-day mortality, and incidence rate of acute kidney injury. Further research is required to estimate the correlation of specific vasopressor characteristics (type, timing, dose, combination) with adverse effects and mortality in this population.

Abstract
Background Acute kidney injury (AKI), a rare adverse event, cannot be ignored as millions of doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccinations. We aimed to investigate the occurrence of post-vaccine AKI reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Methods After data mapping from December 2020 to June 2021, we summarized demographic and clinical features and outcomes of reported cases from three vaccines (Pfizer-BNT, MODERNA, and JANSSEN). The Bayesian and nonproportional analyses explored the correlations between COVID-19 vaccines and AKI. Results We identified 1133 AKI cases. Pfizer-BNT appeared to have a stronger AKI correlation than MODERNA and JANSSEN, based on the highest reporting odds ratio (ROR = 2.15, 95% confidence interval = 1.97, 2.36). We observed the differences in ages, comorbidities, current illnesses, post-vaccine AKI causes, and time to AKI onset (all p<.05) among three vaccines. Most patients are elderly, with the highest age in MODERNA (68.41 years) and lowest in JANSSEN (59.75 years). Comorbidities were noticed in 58.83% of the cases and active infections in over 20% of cases. The leading cause of post-vaccine AKI was volume depletion (40.78%), followed by sepsis (11.74%). Patients in Pfizer-BNT had the worst outcome with 19.78% deaths, following 17.78% in MODERNA and 12.36% in JANSSEN (p = .217). The proportion of patients on dialysis was higher in JANSSEN than in Pfizer-BNT and MODERNA (14.61% vs. 6.54%, 10.62%, p = .008). Conclusion AKI could occur after the COVID-19 vaccines, predominantly in elderly patients. However, the causality needs further identification.

Abstract
Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) was common in the first two waves of the SARS-COV-2 pandemic in critically ill patients. A high percentage of these patients required renal replacement therapy and died in the hospital. Methods The present study examines the clinical presentation, laboratory parameters and therapeutic interventions in critically ill patients with AKI admitted to the ICU in two centres, one each in India and Pakistan. Patient and outcome details of all critically ill COVID 19 patients admitted to the ICU requiring renal replacement therapy were collected. Data was analysed to detect patient variables associated with mortality. Results A total of 1,714 critically ill patients were admitted to the ICUs of the two centres. Of these 393 (22.9%) had severe acute kidney injury (AKIN stage 3) requiring dialysis. Of them, 60.5% were men and the mean (± SD) age was 58.78 (± 14.4) years. At the time of initiation of dialysis, 346 patients (88%) were oligo-anuric. The most frequent dialysis modality in these patients was intermittent hemodialysis (48.1%) followed by slow low efficiency dialysis (44.5%). Two hundred and six (52.4%) patients died. The mortality was higher among the Indian cohort (68.1%) than the Pakistani cohort (43.4%). Older age (age > 50 years), low serum albumin altered sensorium, need for slower forms of renal replacement therapy and ventilatory support were independently associated with mortality. Conclusion There was a very high mortality in patients with COVID-19 associated AKI undergoing RRT in the ICUs in this cohort from the Indian sub-continent.

Abstract
Introduction: A significant antibiotic prescribing pattern associated with the COVID-19 pandemic has been described. Multiple protocols included empirical antimicrobials, leading to a substantial increase in antimicrobial consumption in medical care. A higher mortality rate is described among patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who received antibiotics. Objectives: To determine the association between the use of antibiotics and the development of acute renal injury in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 in patients treated at the Hospital II EsSalud de Ucayali, 2021. Methods: A cross-sectional-analytical study was conducted, evaluating the medical records of patients admitted to the intensive care unit between July 2020 and July 2021. For the statistical analysis, measures of central tendency and dispersion, statistical hypothesis contrast tests were used in relation to acute kidney injury (AKI), antibiotic use and associated factors, derived from linear regression models. Results: The factors that were positively associated with the development of AKI were sepsis (aPR: 2.86; 95% CI: 1.26-6.43), shock (aPR:2.49; 95% CI: 1.28-4.86), mechanical ventilation (aPR:9.11; 95% CI: 1.23-67.57), and use of vancomycin (aPR: 3.15; 95% CI: 1.19-8.27). Conclusions: In the Peruvian Amazon, there is a high consumption and inadequate prescription of antibiotics. The drugs most commonly used for the treatment of COVID-19 were: aminoglycosides, vancomycin, ivermectin, azithromycin, tocilizumab, and corticosteroids. The development of AKI among hospitalized patients was found to be related to vancomycin administration. In addition, an association was found with the use of mechanical ventilation, a high body mass index, and the presence of complications such as sepsis or shock. Therefore, inappropriate antibiotic use for COVID-19 has been associated with multiple negative outcomes and consequences.

Abstract
AbstractBeneficial effects of vitamin D on COVID-19 progression have been discussed in several studies. Vitamin D stimulates the expression of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37, and evidence shows that LL-37 can antagonize SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, we investigated the association between LL-37 and vitamin D serum levels and the severity of COVID-19. To this end, 78 COVID-19 patients were divided into 5 groups according to disease severity. We determined serum levels of LL-37, vitamin D, and routine laboratory parameters. We demonstrated a correlation of CRP, IL-6, PCT, leukocyte count, and LDH with the severity of COVID-19. Our study did not demonstrate a direct relationship between serum levels of LL-37 and vitamin D and the severity of COVID-19. LL-37 is produced by granulocytes and released at the site of inflammation. Therefore, the analysis of LL-37 in broncho-alvelolar lavage rather than in patient serum seems critical. However, since LL-37 is produced by granulocytes, we determined serum LL-37 levels as a function of leukocyte count. The LL-37/leukocyte count ratio correlates highly significantly inversely proportional with COVID-19 severity. Our results indicate that the LL-37/leukocyte count ratio could be used to assess the risk of COVID-19 progression as early as hospital admission.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Multicenter studies involving patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) associated with the disease caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) and treated with renal replacement therapy (RRT) in developing countries are scarce. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the demographic profile, clinical picture, risk factors for mortality, and outcomes of critically ill patients with AKI requiring dialysis (AKI-RRT) and with COVID-19 in the megalopolis of São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS This multicenter, retrospective, observational study was conducted in the intensive care units of 13 public and private hospitals in the metropolitan region of the municipality of São Paulo. Patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit, aged ≥ 18 years, and treated with RRT due to COVID-19-associated AKI were included. RESULTS The study group consisted of 375 patients (age 64.1 years, 68.8% male). Most (62.1%) had two or more comorbidities: 68.8%, arterial hypertension; 45.3%, diabetes; 36.3%, anemia; 30.9%, obesity; 18.7%, chronic kidney disease; 15.7%, coronary artery disease; 10.4%, heart failure; and 8.5%, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Death occurred in 72.5% of the study population (272 patients). Among the 103 survivors, 22.3% (23 patients) were discharged on RRT. In a multiple regression analysis, the independent factors associated with death were the number of organ dysfunctions at admission and RRT efficiency. CONCLUSION AKI-RRT associated with COVID-19 occurred in patients with an elevated burden of comorbidities and was associated with high mortality (72.5%). The number of organ dysfunctions during hospitalization and RRT efficiency were independent factors associated with mortality. A meaningful portion of survivors was discharged while dependent on RRT (22.3%).

Abstract
Introduction/Objective. In Serbia, the pandemic of the coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19) began in early March 2020. The aim of this study is to
summarize clinical experience in the treatment of COVID-19-associated acute
kidney injury (AKI) by methods of continuous renal replacement therapy
(CRRT) with the focus on the amount of the administered dose of
unfractionated heparin (UFH). Methods. The study covers 12 patients treated
with CRRT at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases at the Clinical Center of
Vojvodina from March 6, 2020 to May 20, 2020. Antithrombotic prophylaxis,
risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), applied therapy, biochemical
parameters before and after CRRT, anticoagulation and other CRRT parameters
were analyzed. Results. The mean age of the patients was 61.54 ? 10.37
years and seven (58.3%) were men. All the patients received standard
thromboprophylaxis. Nine (75%) patients had Padua Prediction Score for Risk
of VTE ? 4, but none developed a thrombotic event. Seven critically ill
patients with multi-organic dysfunction developed AKI dependent on CRRT. The
mean CRRT dose was 36.6 ml/kg/h, the mean bolus dose of unfractionated
heparin was 3250 ? 1138.18IU, and the continuous dose was 1112.5 ?
334.48IU/kg/h. Discontinuation of CRRT due to the clotting circuit was
necessary in only one patient. The values of leukocytes, AST, ALT, GGT,
aPTT, PT were significantly higher after CRRT compared to urea, creatinine,
potassium, chlorine and magnesium, whose values were significantly lower.
Conclusion. In our COVID-19 patients who had high inflammatory parameters
and D-dimer and an estimated risk of developing DVT, the implementation
pre-dilution CVVHDF with antithrombotic membrane and 1/3 to 1/2 higher UFH
doses than the recommended one, the filter life lasted longer with no
complications.

Abstract
Homeostasis and health of multicellular organisms with multiple organs depends on interorgan communication. Tissue injury in one organ disturbs this homeostasis and can lead to disease in multiple organs, or multiorgan failure. Many routes of interorgan crosstalk during homeostasis are relatively well known, but interorgan crosstalk in disease still lacks understanding. In particular, how tissue injury in one organ can drive injury at remote sites and trigger multiorgan failure with high mortality is poorly understood. As examples, acute kidney injury can trigger acute lung injury and cardiovascular dysfunction; pneumonia, sepsis or liver failure conversely can cause kidney failure; lung transplantation very frequently triggers acute kidney injury. Mechanistically, interorgan crosstalk after tissue injury could involve soluble mediators and their target receptors, cellular mediators, in particular immune cells, as well as newly identified neuro-immune connections. In this review, I will focus the discussion of deleterious interorgan crosstalk and its mechanistic concepts on one example, acute kidney injury-induced remote lung injury.
