Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Citrus aurantium L. var. amara Engl. is a folk medicine and dietary supplement popularly used in alleviating indigestion due to food retention and obesity. p-Synephrine, a principal proto-alkaloid in Citrus aurantium L. var. amara Engl., is extensively utilized due to its numerous benefits, particularly its potential to ameliorate obesity. Previous studies of our research demonstrated that p-synephrine had the potential to alleviate insulin resistance (IR) and liver lipid accumulation caused by high-fat diet (HFD), as well as enlargement of cells in adipose tissue. However, the effects of p-synephrine in ameliorating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) were still unclear. AIM OF STUDY To explore the effects of p-synephrine on HFD-induced NAFLD and its mechanisms. METHODS NAFLD mice were developed by HFD feeding and treated with p-synephrine once a day for 21 weeks. The protective effects of p-synephrine against NAFLD and its mechanisms were evaluated by OGTT, ITT, biochemical index measurements, H&E, immunofluorescence, Sirius red staining, oil red O staining, immunohistochemistry, RT-qPCR, Western blot, network pharmacology, and molecular docking assays. RESULTS The results of network pharmacology suggested that AMPK-α1 might be the core target, and AMPK and insulin signaling pathways might be the key regulatory pathways of p-synephrine to alleviate NAFLD. Molecular docking confirmed AMPK-α1 as a probable direct molecular target. p-Synephrine significantly reduced HFD-induced weight gain of the body, liver, and iWAT. It improved glucose tolerance, insulin tolerance and lipid metabolism disorders caused by HFD. Serum levels of NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 in NAFLD mice were suppressed. AST, ALT, and HYP levels in serum and liver were inhibited. Morphological observation showed p-synephrine alleviated hepatic steatosis and fibrosis. p-Synephrine administration also significantly inhibited hepatic de novo lipogenesis (DNL), as evidenced by its regulation of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) and TG contents, as well as SREBP-1c, FASN, and ACC1 mRNA expression levels. p-Synephrine also reversed HFD-induced histopathological changes in iWAT, promoted iWAT browning by increasing UCP1 and PGC-1α expression. Simultaneously, p-synephrine intervention markedly increased phosphorylation levels of IRS-1, PI3K, and Akt, and protein expression of GLUT-4 in iWAT and liver. Expression of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β and NF-κB activation in iWAT and liver were attenuated through the treatment of p-synephrine. Further assays showed that p-synephrine intervention potently regulated AMPK pathway in iWAT and liver of mice. CONCLUSION This investigation proposed that p-synephrine had the potential to ameliorate HFD-induced NAFLD by regulating liver-adipose axis through AMPK/NF-κB pathway.

Abstract
Obesity is recognized as a significant risk factor for various types of cancer. Although the incidence of some types of cancer across various primary sites is decreasing due to specific prevention measures (screening programs, smoking cessation), the incidence of neoplasms in the young population shows a significant increase associated with obesity. There is sufficient evidence to say that bariatric surgery has been shown to significantly lower the risk of developing obesity-associated cancers, which are linked to metabolic dysregulation, chronic low-grade systemic inflammation, and hormonal alterations such as elevated levels of insulin and sex hormones.

Abstract
Background: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine condition that affects 8-13% of women of reproductive age. In Kazakhstan, the prevalence of this syndrome is particularly high compared with other countries and the global average. Currently, the diagnosis of PCOS is based on internationally established Rotterdam criteria, using hyperandrogenism as a key parameter. These criteria are applied to diagnose PCOS in all female patients, although obese patients may have excess testosterone produced by adipose tissue. To avoid possible misdiagnosis, an additional criterion, especially for the diagnosis of PCOS in obese women, could be considered. The aim of this study was to identify whether anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) or other biochemical criteria can be used for this purpose. Methods: A total of 138 women were recruited for this study and grouped into control (n = 46), obese subjects without PCOS (n = 67), and obese patients with PCOS (n = 25). The health status, anthropometric parameters, and serum indicators for glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and hormone levels were examined for all subjects. Statistical data were analyzed using GraphPad Prism 10 software for interpretation of the data. Results: Serum AMH, testosterone, and LH were positively correlated in obese PCOS patients, while AMH and FSH were negatively correlated. Compared with other biochemical indicators, the serum AMH and testosterone levels in obese PCOS patients were significantly higher than those in non-PCOS patients (regardless of obesity), and AMH was also positively correlated with testosterone. Conclusions: AMH appears to be a reliable criterion in addition to testosterone for the diagnosis of PCOS in obese women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of a 60-day low-calorie nutrition-rich diet plan compared to usual care on weight loss, physiological factors, markers of metabolic health, and perceived wellness. METHODS Overweight or obese adults (N = 60) were randomly assigned to either the active nutrition group (n = 30) or the usual care group (n = 30). The active nutrition plan consisted of two meal replacement shakes, an electrolyte replacement drink, a metabolic support supplement, one whole food meal, and three to five servings of whole food snacks (e.g., vegetables and fruits), which totaled approximately 1200-1600 calories daily. Participants were evaluated at baseline and 30- and 60-day follow-ups for mean changes in anthropometric characteristics, biochemical variables, self-reported feelings of health and well-being, and dietary intake. RESULTS Of the 60 participants, 49 were women and 11 were men, with a mean age of 38 ± 12 years. Adhering to the active nutrition program for 60 days resulted in a mean weight loss of approximately 6.5 pounds, with a 2-pound weight gain noted for subjects in the usual care group. Related to this, reductions were noted in BMI (p < 0.001), percent fat (p = 0.017), and waist (4 cm, p < 0.001) and hip (3 cm, p < 0.001) circumferences for the active nutrition group but not usual care. Clinically relevant changes were noted for reductions in blood pressure (5 mm Hg) and triglycerides (12 mg/dL) for the active nutrition group. From a subjective perspective, participants in the active nutrition group reported improvements in their self-esteem, motivation, endurance, physical appearance, and strength (p < 0.001). The above was achieved without participants reporting any significant increase in hunger during the intervention, despite the expected reduction in calories. CONCLUSION Adhering to a semi-structured diet plan that allows for one "regular" whole-food meal daily is well-tolerated and enhances weight loss, physiological factors, and perceived wellness. Follow-up studies with a balanced representation of biological men and women are warranted to determine the longer-term impact of this nutrition program on weight loss and markers of metabolic health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE People with mental health conditions have high rates of chronic physical diseases, partially attributable to lifestyle risks factors. This study examined risk prevalence among community mental health service clients, their readiness and confidence to change, and associations with participant characteristics. METHODS Cross-sectional survey of adult clients from 12 community mental health services across 3 local health districts in New South Wales, Australia, collected from 2021 to 2022. Participants (n = 486) completed a telephone interview determining five risk factors, and readiness and confidence to change these. Multiple binary logistic regression models determined associations between readiness and confidence (for each risk), and participant characteristics (demographics and diagnosis). RESULTS Participants most commonly reported a diagnosis of schizophrenia (36.7%) or depression (21.1%). Risk factors were prevalent: ranging from 26% (harmful alcohol use) to 97% (poor nutrition). High readiness was greatest for smoking (68%), weight (66%) and physical inactivity (63%), while confidence was highest for changing alcohol use (67%). Two significant associations were identified; females were more likely than males to have high readiness to change nutrition (odds ratio = 1.14, confidence interval = [1.13, 2.34], p = 0.0092), with males more likely to have high confidence to change physical activity (odds ratio = 0.91, confidence interval = [0.45, 0.99], p = 0.0109). CONCLUSIONS Many participants were ready and confident to change risk factors. Gender influenced readiness to change nutrition and physical activity confidence. Training to upskill mental health clinicians in provision of preventive care that builds confidence and readiness levels may aid in supporting positive behaviour change.

Abstract
Aquaporin (AQP) 7 and AQP9 are membrane channel proteins called aquaglyceroporins and are related to glucose and lipid metabolism. AQP7 is mainly expressed in white adipose tissue (WAT) and is involved in releasing glycerol into the bloodstream. AQP9 is the glycerol channel in the liver that supplies glycerol to the hepatic cells. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the expression of aquaglyceroporins and lifestyle-related diseases, such as obesity and fatty liver, using 22-week-old db/db mice. Body weight, WAT, and liver weight showed increases in db/db mice. The levels of liver lipids, plasma lipids, insulin, and leptin were also increased in db/db mice. Gene expression related to fatty acid and triglyceride synthesis in the liver was enhanced in db/db mice. In addition, gene and protein expression of gluconeogenesis-related enzymes was increased. Conversely, lipolysis-related gene expression in WAT was reduced. In the db/db mice, AQP9 expression in the liver was raised; however, AQP7 expression in WAT was reduced. These results suggest that in db/db mice, enhanced hepatic AQP9 expression increased the supply of glycerol to the liver and induced fatty liver and hyperglycemia. Additionally, reduced AQP7 expression in WAT is associated with excessive lipid accumulation in adipocytes. Aquaglyceroporins are essential molecules for glucose and lipid metabolism, and may be potential target molecules for the treatment of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases.

Abstract
Background Obesity and overweight, irrespective of metabolic status, confer an increased risk of adverse consequences including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The mechanisms underlying altered cardiovascular responses in obese individuals during and after submaximal treadmill exercise are the subjects of great interest to public health. After graded exercise, delayed heart rate recovery (HRR), exaggerated blood pressure (BP) response, and prolongation of QT interval are the powerful predictors of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality that may facilitate timely identification of individuals at risk of CVD and help to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions. Aim To compare the cardiovascular parameters on submaximal treadmill exercise in obese and nonobese adults. Materials and Methods This study was conducted on 80 subjects, 40 obese (cases) and 40 normal-weight individuals (controls), belonging to the age group of 18-60 years. Each participant was subjected to submaximal treadmill exercise according to the Bruce protocol. Heart rate (HR), systolic BP and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), QT and corrected QT (QTc) intervals, and rate pressure product (RPP) were measured preexercise, immediately after exercise, and during passive recovery at 1 min and 5 min after exercise. The Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U-test, whichever is appropriate, were employed for the comparison of variables between the two study groups. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Mean HR immediately after exercise, at 1 min and 5 min postexercise was significantly higher in obese when compared to nonobese participants (P = 0.006, P = 0.001, P = 0.001) despite similar resting HR in both the groups (P = 0.874). Mean SBP, DBP, MAP, and RPP were significantly higher in obese in comparison to nonobese subjects in all stages, i.e. before exercise, immediately after exercise, at 1 min and 5 min after exercise. QT and QTc intervals were also found to be significantly greater in obese than nonobese subjects in all stages (P = 0.001 each). Conclusion Obese subjects had higher resting BP (SBP, DBP, and MAP), QT/QTc interval, RPP, and increased response to submaximal treadmill exercise activity. Delayed HRR after exercise was also noted in obese subjects which indicates that obese populations are at risk of developing CVDs due to alteration in autonomic functions with sympathetic hyperactivity.

Abstract
This study’s objective was to assess the involvement of olfactomedin 2 (OLFM2), a secreted glycoprotein related to lipid metabolism regulation, in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) mediated by the adipose-tissue–liver axis. OLFM2 mRNA expression was analyzed in subcutaneous (SAT) and visceral (VAT) adipose tissue by RT–qPCR. The cohort included women with normal weight (n = 16) or morbid obesity (MO, n = 60) who were subclassified into normal liver (n = 20), simple steatosis (n = 21), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH, n = 19) groups. The results showed that OLFM2 expression in SAT was enhanced in MO individuals and in the presence of NAFLD. Specifically, OLFM2 expression in SAT was increased in mild and moderate degrees of steatosis in comparison to the absence of it. Moreover, OLFM2 expression in SAT was negatively correlated with interleukin-6 levels. On the other hand, OLFM2 expression in VAT decreased in the presence of NASH and exhibited a positive correlation with adiponectin levels. In conclusion, OLFM2 in SAT seems to be implicated in hepatic lipid accumulation. Additionally, since we previously suggested the possible implication of hepatic OLFM2 in NAFLD progression, now we propose a possible interaction between the liver and SAT, reinforcing the potential implication of this tissue in NAFLD development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Excessive deposition of abdominal fat poses serious problems in broilers owing to rapid growth. Recently, the evolution of the existing knowledge on long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) have established their indispensable roles in multiple physiological metabolic processes, including adipogenesis and fat deposition. However, not much has been explored on their profiles in the abdominal fat tissues of broilers to date. In the study, we aimed to characterize the vital candidates of lncRNAs and circRNAs and their underlying regulations for abdominal fat deposition in broilers. RESULTS The present study sequenced the lncRNAs and circRNAs expression profiles in the abdominal fat tissues isolated from 7-week-old broilers, who were divergently selected for their fatness. It identified a total of 3359 lncRNAs and 176 circRNAs, demonstrating differential expressed (DE) 30 lncRNAs and 17 circRNAs between the fat- and lean-line broilers (|log2FC| ≥ 1, P < 0.05). Subsequently, the 20 cis-targets and 48 trans-targets of the candidate DE lncRNAs were identified for depositing abdominal fat by adjacent gene analysis and co-expression analysis, respectively. In addition, the functional enrichment analysis showed the DE lncRNAs targets and DE circRNAs host genes to be mainly involved in the cellular processes, amino/fatty acid metabolism, and immune inflammation-related pathways and GO terms. Finally, the vital 16 DE lncRNAs located in cytoplasm and specifically expressed in fat/lean line and their targets were used to construct the lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory network, comprising 7 DE lncRNAs, 28 miRNAs, 11 DE mRNAs. Notably, three lncRNAs including XR_001468036.2, XR_003077610.1 and XR_001466431.2 with the most connected degrees might play hub regulatory roles in abdominal fat deposition of broilers. CONCLUSIONS This study characterized the whole expression difference of lncRNAs and circRNAs between the two lines broilers with divergently ability of abdominal fat. The vital candidate DE lncRNAs/circRNAs and ceRNA regulations were identified related to the deposition of abdominal fat in chicken. These results might further improve our understanding of regulating the non-coding RNAs in obesity.

Effects of Dried Onion Powder and Quercetin on Obesity-Associated Hepatic Menifestation and Retinopathy. Int J Mol Sci 2022; 23:ijms231911091. Abstract
Onion (Allium cepa L.), rich in flavonoids (particularly quercetin), reportedly has anti-obesity properties, but the underlying mechanisms and associated health issues remain unclear. In this study, we compared the effects of dried onion powder (DO) with that of quercetin on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and retinal neovascularization. Briefly, rats (n = 9–10 per group) were divided into control, HFD alone (43% fat), HFD + DO (1% DO), HFD + 5DO (5% DO, w/w), and HFD + quercetin (180 mg/kg). After 12 weeks, body fat, markers of metabolism, fatty liver, steatohepatitis, and retinopathy were analyzed. The results revealed that DO and 5DO dose-dependently suppressed body weight, visceral and subcutaneous fat accumulation, and epididymal adipocyte in HFD-fed rats. DO also decreased HFD-induced ALT, AST, free fatty acid, glucose, proinflammatory cytokines, and oxidative stress. DO and 5DO groups had lower triglycerides, total cholesterol, proinflammatory cytokine levels, and ACC-α (a fatty acid synthesis–associated enzyme) expression but higher hepatic antioxidant enzyme activities and fecal lipids. 5DO exhibited better or similar efficacy to quercetin. Both 5DO and quercetin increased fecal levels of acetic acid and butyric acid similarly. They also reduced lipid peroxidation of the eye, retinal adiposity, and neovascularization. However, quercetin resulted in a more apparent decrease in regulation of the Raf/MAPK pathway than DO in eye specimens. Conclusively, DO suppresses visceral, subcutaneous, and liver fat accumulation better than quercetin likely due to higher fecal fat excretion and lower oxidative stress, proinflammatory cytokine levels, and ACC-α expression. Quercetin regulating signal pathways is better than DO at reducing retinal adiposity and neovascularization.

Abstract
Objectives: Our objective was to analyze changes in lifestyle patterns of Chinese college students at home during the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: According to a structured online questionnaire covering socio- demographic information, anthropometric data, and changes in food intake, physical activity, and sleep during the COVID-19 outbreak, the relationships between the above data before and during the outbreak were analyzed. Results: Among the 781 participants, 38.5% had significantly increased their total food intake and 29.1% had significantly decreased their physical activity. Overall, 44% of participants reported weight gain. The average weight gain was 0.7±2.5 kg. The main causes of weight gain were increased food intake (p < .001), decreased physical activity (p < .01), and an excessive increase or reduction in sleep duration (p < .024). Conclusion: During the COVID-19 outbreak, college students' food intake was found to be increased and physical activity decreased; sleep duration was irregular, and all these factors influenced weight gain.

Abstract
Overweight and obesity are now considered a worldwide pandemic and a growing public health problem with severe economic and social consequences. Adipose tissue is an organ with neuroimmune-endocrine functions, which participates in homeostasis. So, adipocyte hypertrophy and hyperplasia induce a state of chronic inflammation that causes changes in the brain and induce neuroinflammation. Studies with obese animal models and obese patients have shown a relationship between diet and cognitive decline, especially working memory and learning deficiencies. Here we analyze how obesity-related peripheral inflammation can affect central nervous system physiology, generating neuroinflammation. Given that the blood-brain barrier is an interface between the periphery and the central nervous system, its altered physiology in obesity may mediate the consequences on various cognitive processes. Finally, several interventions, and the use of natural compounds and exercise to prevent the adverse effects of obesity in the brain are also discussed.

Abstract
Many patients with clinically severe obesity (CSO) need to undergo bariatric surgery, with possible side effects, so individualized predictive methods are required. Adipocytokines and gut/intestinal microbiota-derived metabolites could be predictive biomarkers of metabolic success post- surgery, but the knowledge in this field is undefined. The objective of this work was to determine whether adipocytokines and microbiota-derived metabolites can be used to predict the metabolic improvement post- surgery in women with CSO. We analyzed circulating levels of some cytokines and some microbiota-derived metabolites at baseline and 12 months post-surgery from 44 women with CSO and 21 women with normal weight. Results showed that glucose, insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), and triglycerides levels were decreased post-surgery, while high density lipoprotein increased. Twelve months later, leptin, resistin, lipocalin, PAI-1, TNF-α, and IL-1β levels were lower than baseline, meanwhile adiponectin, IL-8, and IL-10 levels were increased. Moreover, baseline lipocalin levels were associated with HbA1c reduction post-surgery; meanwhile baseline resistin was related to postoperative HOMA2 (insulin resistance) and baseline propionate was associated with LDL-C decrease. To conclude, the detection of lipocalin, resistin, and propionate levels may be used to predict the metabolic success following bariatric surgery, although new knowledge is needed.

Abstract
Background Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is an effective treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the impact of hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection and body mass index (BMI) on TACE is controversial. The present study aimed to compare the influence of HBV and high BMI on TACE outcomes in advanced HCC. Methods Based on HBV infection history and BMI, patients were assigned to different subgroups. Blood samples were collected and analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) and the overall survival (OS) in the population. Results Compared to overweight combined HBV patients who received TACE, people with normal weight or no viral infection had significantly better OS and PFS. Sex, age, portal vein tumor thrombus, BCLC, ECOG, and tumor diameter are the main risk factors affecting PFS and OS. Except for the postoperative fever, no significant difference was detected in adverse reactions. Irrespective of TACE, the average expression of HMGB1 in hepatitis or obesity patients was higher than that in normal individuals and did not show upregulation after TACE. Patients without overweight or HBV infection had a low expression of serum HMGB1 that was substantially upregulated after TACE. Conclusions In this study, overweight combined HBV infection patients had shorter PFS and OS than other HCC patients. Thus, HBV and BMI maybe two factors affecting the efficacy of TACE via upregulated HMGB1. 1. High BMI combined with HBV infection has a negative impact on the PFS and OS of HCC patients treated with TACE. 2. Irrespective of TACE, the average HMGB1 in hepatitis and obesity patients was higher than that in normal individuals, which was not upregulated after TACE. 3. Patients without overweight and HBV infection had a low level of serum concentration of HMGB1 before TACE that was upregulated after TACE. Compared to others, these patients have severe changes in HMGB1 in the peripheral blood after treatment, indicating a higher risk of acute liver injury. 4. Upregulated HMGB1 elevated the prognosis after TACE, but obesity and HBV infection resulted in the negative effect by inhibiting HMGB1 expression. 5. For advanced HCC, overweight combined HBV infection, PVTT, multiple lesions, and larger tumor diameter are negative factors for TACE.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to explore the relationship between fruit intake, changes in fruit intake, and changes in cardiometabolic factors in people with obesity. METHODS A total of 21,270 subjects (8,718 men, 12,552 women) aged 40 years and over, from the Korean-based Genome and Epidemiology Study, were followed up for an average of 4.4 years. Fruit intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire at baseline and the second follow-up. The beta coefficient and confidence intervals for changes in cardiometabolic risk factors according to fruit consumption were calculated using a linear regression model. RESULTS In men, the abdominal circumference decreased with changes in fruit intake (P=0.029). Fruit intake and increased fruit intake in men were associated with a lower systolic blood pressure (P=0.012 and P=0.02, respectively) and lower triglyceride levels (P=0.002 and P<0.001, respectively). In women, abdominal circumference decreased with both fruit intake and increased fruit intake (P<0.001 and P=0.013, respectively). Systolic blood pressure and triglycerides tended to decrease only with fruit intake (P=0.048 and P<0.001, respectively). Unlike in men, fasting blood glucose tended to decrease in women with both fruit intake and increased fruit intake (P=0.011 and P=0.005, respectively). CONCLUSION Fruit intake and increased fruit intake may have beneficial effects on cardiometabolic risk factors among individuals who are obese.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) gene polymorphism and metabolic syndrome (MS) on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) attributed to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS This study included 195 patients diagnosed with LUTS secondary to BPH as case group, divided into simple BPH group (S-BPH group) and combined with MS group (MS-BPH group). Control group included 200 healthy elderly men without LUTS. Use peripheral blood samples detected the GSTP1 gene polymorphism (Ile 105 Val A → G polymorphism) by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Recorded age, GSTP1 gene polymorphism, international prostate symptom score (IPSS), prostate volume (PV), residual urine volume (RV), maximal urinary flowrate (Qmax), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) to statistical analysis. RESULTS Pairwise compared between control group, S-BPH group and MS-BPH, the PV (P < 0.001), PSA (P < 0.001), RV (P < 0.001), Qmax (P < 0.001), IPSS (P < 0.001), frequencies of GSTP1 gene (P < 0.05) were shown significant different, and MS-BPH group had larger PV, and more severe LUTS. In case group, variation genotypes (GSTP1 A/G + G/G) always had larger PV, higher PSA and IPSS, more RV and lower Qmax than homozygote (GSTP1 A/A) and the comparison were significant different (P < 0.05). Variation genotypes were positively correlated with PV (β = 0.092, P < 0.001), RV (β = 0.228, P = 0.004), IPSS (β = 0.274, P = 0.038), PSA (β = 1.243, P < 0.001) and negatively correlated with Qmax (β = -0.362, P = 0.025). CONCLUSION In patients with BPH, GSTP1 variation genotypes and MS might be potential risk factors for faster progression of benign prostatic enlargement and LUTS, which might increase the surgical rate. Abstract
Our aim was to determine prospectively whether increased body mass index (BMI) affects endometrial receptivity through displacement of the window of implantation (dWOI) using the endometrial receptivity analysis (ERA), and whether this effect is BMI-dependent. We recruited a population of 170 infertile women with a normal uterus and no clinical history of recurrent miscarriage or implantation failure. These women were divided into four groups according to BMI: normal weight (18.5-24.9 kg/m2; n = 44), overweight (25-29.9 kg/m2; n = 29), class I obese (30.0-34.9 kg/m2; n = 54), and class II and III obese (> 35 kg/m2; n = 43). We also assigned the patients to one of two larger BMI cohorts: non-obese (normal weight and overweight; n = 73) and obese (class I, II, and III obese; n = 97). We compared analytical and clinical data and dWOI in these categories, finding significant metabolic differences in glycemia, TSH, insulin, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure among the different BMI groups. One-day dWOI increased significantly with BMI, and significant differences were observed in the non-obese versus obese categories (9.7% vs 25.3 %, respectively (p = 0.02)). dWOI was most pronounced in patients with class II-III obesity. In addition, displacement was longer as BMI increased since ERA revealed a higher proportion of displacements of 1 day than of 12 h and showed they were predominantly pre-receptive. In conclusion, obesity has a negative effect on endometrial receptivity through delaying of the WOI, which increases in function of BMI as well as the metabolic disturbances of the patient.

Abstract
Obesity has become one of the most important public health problems worldwide, which suggests the need for evidence-based dietary strategies for weight loss and its maintenance. Weight management depends upon complex factors such as amount of food eaten, type of food eaten, and timing of meals. In this review, we identified evidence-based dietary strategies for weight management based on these three components. An energy deficit is the most important factor in weight loss. A low-calorie diet with a low fat or carbohydrate content has been recommended; however, in some cases, a very-low-calorie diet is required for a short period. Some macronutrient composition-based diets, such as the ketogenic diet or high-protein diet, could be considered in some cases, although the potential risks and long-term effectiveness remain unknown. Meal timing is also an important factor in weight management, and higher-calorie breakfasts in combination with overnight fasting may help to prevent obesity. Our review indicated that there is no single best strategy for weight management. Hence, strategies for weight loss and its maintenance should be individualized, and healthcare providers must choose the best strategy based on patient preferences.

Abstract
The lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are highly prevalent worldwide. Clinical and experimental data suggest that the incidence of LUTS-BPH is higher in patients with vascular-related disorders such as in pelvic ischemia, obesity and diabetes as well as in the ageing population. Obesity is an important risk factor that predisposes to glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disorders. Prospective studies showed that obese men are more likely to develop LUTS-BPH than non-obese men. Yet, men with greater waist circumferences were also at a greater risk of increased prostate volume and prostate-specific antigen than men with lower waist circumference. BPH is characterized by an enlarged prostate and increased smooth muscle tone, thus causing urinary symptoms. Data from experimental studies showed a significant increase in prostate and epididymal adipose tissue weight of obese mice when compared with lean mice. Adipose tissues that are in direct contact with specific organs have gained attention due to their potential paracrine role. The prostate gland is surrounded by periprostatic adipose tissue (PPAT), which is believed to play a paracrine role by releasing growth factors, pro-inflammatory, pro-oxidant, contractile and anti-contractile substances that interfere in prostate reactivity and growth. Therefore, this review is divided into two main parts, one focusing on the role of adipokines in the context of obesity that can lead to LUTS/BPH and the second part focusing on the mediators released from PPAT and the possible pathways that may interfere in the prostate microenvironment.

Abstract
Context: Obesity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases. Abnormal changes in cardiovascular responses to exercise indicate the alteration in autonomic activity in obese. Aims: To assess and compare the cardiovascular parameters before and after exercise among obese and nonobese adult males. Subjects and Methods: Thirty each obese and normal-weight males between the age group 18-45 years were selected as cases and controls, respectively. Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), corrected QT intervals were measured before and after submaximal treadmill exercise (QT and QTc) were done according to Bruce protocol. HR, SBP, DBP, MAP, QT, and QTc were also measured during passive recovery at 1 min and 5 min after exercise. Statistical Analysis Used: One-way analysis of variance and t-test were used to assess changes before and after exercise. Results: Resting HR was significantly higher in obese when compared to nonobese (P < 0.05). SBP, DBP, MAP, QT, and QTc were significantly higher in obese when compared to nonobese (P < 0.001). Immediately after exercise HR, SBP, DBP, MAP, QT, and QTc were significantly higher in obese when compared to nonobese (P < 0.001) 1 min after exercise. Conclusions: Obese individuals had elevated resting cardiovascular parameters and showed increased responses to steady exercise which could be due to alteration in autonomic functions with sympathetic hyperactivity. Delayed rate of decrease in HR and BP after exercise was also observed in obese, which indicates that they are at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of shiftwork and the risk of obesity in nurses has been inconsistent in the literature. OBJECTIVES We therefore conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantitatively summarize this association in nurses. METHODS We systematically searched PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Web of Science from inception until April 2020 for studies that examined the relationship between shift work and obesity in nurses. Pooled odds ratio (OR) was calculated using a fixed- or random-effect model. The quality of each study was evaluated by using the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies-of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. Two researchers independently assessed eligibility and extracted data. The whole process followed the PRISMA statement. RESULTS We included 11 eligible studies with a total of 74,651 nurses in this study. All of the studies were found to be low or moderate risk of bias according to the ROBINS-I tool. The pooled estimate of the risk of obesity in shift work nurses as compared to non-shift work nurses did not achieve statistical significance (OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 0.97-1.14). However, the risk of obesity was significantly higher in the sub-analysis of night-only shift work nurses (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.03-1.21). In a sub-analysis limited only to the studies of female nurses, the obesity risk was found not to be statistically significant (OR = 1.09, 95% CI = 0.84-1.35). For different regions of study population, shift work was associated with a 36% increased risk of obesity in America (OR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.30-1.42) and 1% increased risk in Europe and Australia (OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 1.00-1.03). The BMI cut-off for obesity varied in the included studies. When using a cut-off of BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 for obesity, our subgroup analysis shows a positive relationship between obesity and nurse shift work (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.03-1.20). CONCLUSIONS This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis confirming that shiftwork may play a significant role in the development of obesity among nurses, especially in America, Europe and Australia. This was found to be particularly true for night only shift work nurses. Implementation of health policies and a better night shift schedule are needed in the hospital's management to effectively protect nurses from obesity, and the health risks associated with it.

Abstract
Obesity is a growing health threat worldwide. Administration of probiotics in obesity has also parallelly increased but without any protocolization. We conducted a systematic review exploring the administration pattern of probiotic strains and effective doses for obesity-related disorders according to their capacity of positively modulating key biomarkers and microbiota dysbiosis. Manuscripts targeting probiotic strains and doses administered for obesity-related disorders in clinical studies were sought. MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched using keywords during the last fifteen years up to April 2020. Two independent reviewers screened titles, abstracts, and then full-text papers against inclusion criteria according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. From 549 interventional reports identified, we filtered 171 eligible studies, from which 24 full-text assays were used for calculating intervention total doses (ITD) of specific species and strains administered. Nine of these reports were excluded in the second-step because no specific data on gut microbiota modulation was found. Six clinical trials (CT) and 9 animal clinical studies were retained for analysis of complete outcome prioritized (body mass index (BMI), adiposity parameters, glucose, and plasma lipid biomarkers, and gut hormones). Lactobacillus spp. administered were double compared to Bifidobacterium spp.; Lactobacillus as single or multispecies formulations whereas most Bifidobacteria only through multispecies supplementations. Differential factors were estimated from obese populations' vs. obesity-induced animals: ITD ratio of 2 × 106 CFU and patterns of administrations of 11.3 weeks to 5.5 weeks, respectively. Estimation of overall probiotics impact from selected CT was performed through a random-effects model to pool effect sizes. Comparisons showed a positive association between the probiotics group vs. placebo on the reduction of BMI, total cholesterol, leptin, and adiponectin. Moreover, negative estimation appeared for glucose (FPG) and CRP. While clinical trials including data for positive modulatory microbiota capacities suggested that high doses of common single and multispecies of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium ameliorated key obesity-related parameters, the major limitation was the high variability between studies and lack of standardized protocols. Efforts in solving this problem and searching for next-generation probiotics for obesity-related diseases would highly improve the rational use of probiotics.
