Myxoid Cellular Neurothekeoma: A New Entity of S100-Negative, CD68-Positive Myxoid Neurothekeoma

Neurothekeoma is a rare cutaneous neoplasm, occurring as a cutaneous papule or nodule on the face, shoulders, and upper extremities. Neurothekeoma has been subclassified as either the myxoid, cellular, or mixed type, depending on the amount of myxoid matrix and on immunohistochemical analysis. We observed a clinical case with conflicting histopathological and immunohistochemical findings. In this case, microscopic examination showed the typical presentation of myxoid neurothekeoma; however, immunohistochemical staining was negative for S100 protein and positive for CD68, which is the characteristic pattern of cellular neurothekeoma. We report a very rare form of myxoid cellular neurothekeoma of the face in a young woman.

Ankle neurothekeoma: a case report

Neurothekeoma is a rare, benign, cutaneous tumor of nerve sheath origin that is also termed benign nerve sheath myxoma. This tumor is usually asymptomatic and grows slowly. Neurothekeoma is typically found in young adults and seldom occurs in children. It is most commonly located in the head, neck, and upper extremity and extremely rarely found in the lower leg. We report a rare case of ankle neurothekeoma in a child, with a review of the related published data.

Facial neurothekeoma in a 10-year-old child

Neurothekeoma is a rare and benign tumour that occurs most frequently on the head and neck. It is classified as a nerve sheath tumour and epidemiologically occurs in young adults. It is rare to find these tumours occurring in children. The following report describes a case of neurothekeoma in a young girl, its treatment and a review of the literature. Specific histological analysis may reveal atypical and aggressive features, which, in turn, affect resection and reconstructive options.

Neurothekeoma: report of a case in an infant and review of the literature

Neurothekeomas (nerve sheath myxomas) are uncommon benign tumors of nerve sheath origin. We describe an infant with a neurothekeoma and review the literature of neurothekeomas in children and adults. Neurothekeomas have been reported in 292 patients whose ages have ranged from 15 months to 84 years. They occur twice as often in women as in men. Neurothekeomas were most commonly located on the upper extremities and the head and neck. They also occurred on the trunk, the lower extremities, and mucosa. Histologic variants of neurothekeomas include classical, cellular, and mixed tumors. Surgical excision was the most common treatment. Recurrences were attributed to an incomplete excision; treatment of these tumors is by complete excision. Neurothekeomas should be included in the differential diagnosis of dermal nodules in infants and children.
