Abstract
BACKGROUND Inconsistent findings have emerged from studies examining the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity indices and triglycerides (TGs), especially in pediatric and adolescent cohorts. The present study investigates this relationship within adolescent populations in the United States. METHODS Data spanning three periods from 2007 to 2012 were analyzed, including 1813 participants. The thyroid hormone sensitivity index was calculated and weighted multiple linear regression was used to assess the relationships between TG levels and individual thyroid hormone sensitivity indices. Subgroup analyses were conducted as needed and smooth curve fitting plots visualized the linear relationships. RESULTS The FT3/FT4 ratio was positively correlated with TG (β = 0.649, 95% CI: 0.360-0.938, P < 0.001). This correlation persisted after adjusting for all variables (β = 0.439, 95% CI: 0.154-0.725, P < 0.01). The relationship between the TFQI score and TG concentration demonstrated a significant negative correlation, which remained after controlling for all covariates (β = -0.153, 95% CI: -0.239-0.067, P < 0.01). When stratified into quartiles, the FT3/FT4 ratio and TG exhibited a positive correlation only in the Q3 and Q4 groups. Conversely, the TFQI was significantly correlated with TG exclusively in the Q4 group's positive values. Stratified analyses by sex and age showed clearer associations in female adolescents. CONCLUSIONS The study confirmed the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity indices and TGs. Maintaining the FT3/FT4 ratio within a specific range may reduce TG levels. The TFQI may predict TG levels when actual TSH values exceed expected values based on FT4. These findings were most pronounced in female adolescents, highlighting the importance of early monitoring of thyroid health in this group. These results point to the need for improved thyroid function testing in predicting TG levels and preventing hypertriglyceridemia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypothyroidism, a prevalent thyroid hormone abnormality identified by biochemical indicators, is prone to serious consequences because of its insidious clinical manifestations and easy underdiagnosis. This research aimed to elucidate the relationships between indicators of lipid and glucose metabolism and hypothyroidism and to assess the value of metabolic indicators for hypothyroidism. METHODS Prevalence surveys were conducted utilizing information from 3254 NHANES individuals who passed screening between 2007 and 2012. Comparisons of baseline characteristics, assessment of logistic regression and subgroup analyses, visualization of restricted cubic splines curves, and validation of causal mediation analyses were performed to obtain a comprehensive view of the relationships between indicators of lipid and glucose metabolism and hypothyroidism. RESULTS Lipid and glucose metabolism indicators, especially the unconventional parameters triglyceride‒glucose index (TyG) and remnant cholesterol (RC) and the conventional parameter triglyceride (TG), exhibited robust positive relationships with hypothyroidism and served as crucial mediators in the pathways by which hypothyroidism affects health outcomes. Indicators were varying suggestive for hypothyroidism in distinct populations, with TyG being relatively more valuable. CONCLUSIONS Indicators of lipid and glucose metabolism (TyG, TG, and RC) were intimately associated with hypothyroidism, with potential applications in the assessment and management of hypothyroidism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Growing evidence suggested that abnormal lipid metabolism (ALM) was associated with an increased severity of depressive symptoms, but no previous studies have examined the differences in comorbid ALM in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients of different ages of onset. We aim to compare the differences in the prevalence and clinical correlates of ALM between early-onset and late-onset patients with first-episode and drug-naive (FEDN) MDD patients. METHODS Using a cross-sectional design, we recruited a total of 1718 FEDN MDD outpatients in this study. We used the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) positive subscale, and Clinical Global Impression-Severity Scale (CGI-S) to assess their depression, anxiety, and psychotic symptoms and clinical severity, respectively. RESULTS There were 349 patients (20.3%) in the early-onset subgroup and 1369 (79.7%) in the late-onset subgroup. In this study, 65.1% (1188/1718) of patients were diagnosed with ALM. The prevalence of ALM in the late-onset group (81.5%, 1116/1369) was significantly higher than that in the early-onset group (20.6%, 72/349) (p = 0.36, OR = 1.147, 95%CI = 0.855-1.537). The HAMD total score (OR = 1.34, 95% CI = 1.18-1.53, p < 0.001) was the only risk factor for ALM in early-onset MDD patients. In late-onset MDD patients, the HAMD total score (OR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.11-1.28, p < 0.001), TSH (OR = 1.25, 95% CI = 1.16-1.36, p < 0.001), CGI (OR = 1.7, 95% CI = 1.31-2.19, p < 0.001), and anxiety (OR = 2.22, 95% CI = 1.23-4.02, p = 0.008) were risk factors for ALM. CONCLUSION AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE Our results suggest that there are significant differences in the prevalence and clinical factors of comorbid ALM between early-onset and late-onset FEND MDD patients.

Abstract
It is known that thyroid hormone can regulate hepatic metabolic pathways including cholesterol, de novo lipogenesis, fatty acid oxidation, lipophagy, and carbohydrate metabolism. Thyroid hormone action is mediated by the thyroid hormone receptor (THR) isoforms and their coregulators, and THRβ is the main isoform expressed in the liver. Dysregulation of thyroid hormone levels, as seen in hypothyroidism, has been associated with dyslipidemia and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. Given the beneficial effects of thyroid hormone in liver metabolism and the advances illuminating the use of thyroid hormone analogs such as resmetirom as therapeutic agents in the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease, this review aims to further explore the relationship between TH, the liver, and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. Herein, we summarize the current clinical therapies and highlight future areas of research.

Abstract
Thyroid diseases are increasingly prevalent, posing significant challenges to patients' quality of life and placing substantial financial burdens on families and society. Despite these impacts, the underlying pathophysiology of many thyroid conditions remains poorly understood, complicating efforts in treatment, management, and prevention. Observational studies can identify associations between exposure variables and disease; however, they often struggle to account for confounding factors and reverse causation. Understanding disease occurrence, epidemiological trends, and clinical diagnosis, prevention, and treatment relies heavily on robust etiological research. Mendelian randomization, a method grounded in genetics and epidemiology, has been widely employed in studying the etiology of thyroid diseases, offering a solution to some of these challenges. This paper categorizes thyroid diseases into thyroid dysfunction and thyroid cancer, reviewing related Mendelian randomization studies. It further provides novel perspectives and approaches for investigating the mechanisms underlying thyroid diseases and designing intervention strategies.

Abstract
Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common medical complications of pregnancy, which increases the risk of other pregnant complications and adverse perinatal outcomes. Thyroid dysfunction is closely with the risk of diabetes mellitus. However, the relationship between euthyroid function in early pregnancy and GDM is still controversial. Aims This study was to find the relationship between thyroid function within normal range during early pregnancy as well as glucose and lipids metabolisms as well as the risk of subsequent GDM. Methods A total of 1486 pregnant women were included in this prospective double-center cohort study. Free thyroxine (FT4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and antithyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) were tested during 6-12 weeks of gestation and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was conducted during 24-28 weeks to screen GDM. Relative risks (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for subsequent risk of GDM by thyroid function quartiles were assessed adjusting for major risk factors. Results The incidence of GDM was 23.0% (342/1486). TSH, FT4 and the percentage of positive TPOAb were no significant difference between women with and without GDM, but FT4/TSH ratio was significantly higher in GDM group compared with NGT group [6.97(0.84,10.61) vs. 4.88(0.66,12.44), P=0.025)]. The linear trends of TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, fasting glucose in the first trimester, insulin, C-peptide, HOMA-IR, fasting glucose during OGTT and incidence of GDM according to FT4/TSH ratio were all statistically significant. Further analysis based on fetal sex presented only the third quartile of FT4/TSH ratio in women carrying male fetus was associated with higher incidence of GDM statistically significant [RR (95% CI), 1.917 (1.143,3.216)], rather than in women carrying female fetus. Conclusions Thyroid function even in normal range is closely related to glucose and lipids metabolisms during the first trimester. Unappropriated FT4/TSH ratio in the first trimester is an independent risk factor of GDM in women carrying male fetus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia is increasingly recognized as an essential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. However, few studies illustrated the effects of ambient temperature exposure (TE) on lipid levels in children. The study aimed to examine the association between ambient TE and lipid levels in children. METHODS Based on a prospective cohort, a total of 2423 children (with 4466 lipids measure person-time) were collected from 2014 to 2019. The meteorological observation data and adjusted variables were collected. Mixed-effect models and generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) were applied to investigate the association between ambient TE and lipid levels. RESULTS A significant negative association was observed between TE and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or total cholesterol (TC) levels both in all children [LDL-C, β(95%CI) = -0.350(-0.434,-0.265), P < 0.001; TC, β(95%CI) = -0.274(-0.389,-0.160), P < 0.001] and by different sex group. However, no significant association was found in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) or triglycerides (TG) levels. The estimated optimal ambient TEs for LDL-C were 18.273 °C and 18.024 °C for girls and boys, respectively. For TC, the optimal ambient TEs were 17.949 °C and 18.024 °C, respectively. With ambient TE decreased, the risk of dyslipidemia increased for both boys [OR = 0.032(0.006,0.179), P < 0.001] and girls [OR = 0.582(0.576,0.587), P < 0.001]. CONCLUSION This study provided a comprehensive illustration about the associations between ambient TE and lipid levels in different sex and ages from a prospective cohort study. The findings will provide evidence for the government to prevent dyslipidemia in vulnerable children through regulating TE.

Abstract
Background Excessive saturated fatty acids (SFAs) are known to be detrimental to human health. Although the majority of research and dietary guidelines have focused on the intake of SFAs, there has been limited attention to the relationship between circulating SFA levels and hormonal regulation, such as that of thyroid hormones. Methods To explore potential associations, we conducted an investigation with 579 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012. Subgroup analyses and multivariable linear regression models were used to estimate the relationships between eleven distinct SFA concentrations and various thyroid parameters. Results For 579 adults, subgroup analysis of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) revealed significant differences in nine specific SFAs and the total SFA levels (all p < 0.05). Furthermore, multivariable linear regression analysis identified positive correlations between certain SFAs and various parameters, including TSH, total triiodothyronine (TT3), free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb), thyroglobulin (Tg), the ratio of FT3 to free thyroxine (FT4) (FT3/FT4), and the thyrotroph T4 resistance index (TT4RI). Conversely, negative correlations were observed between certain SFAs and total thyroxine (TT4), FT4, the ratio of FT3/TT3, and the thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI) (all p < 0.05). Conclusion These findings collectively suggest associations between SFAs and thyroid parameters, highlighting the need for future studies to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of these interactions.

Abstract
Background The causality of autoimmune diseases with frailty has not been firmly established. We conducted this Mendelian randomization (MR) study to unveil the causal associations between autoimmune diseases with frailty. Methods A MR analyses were performed to explore the relationships between autoimmune disease and frailty, using summary genome-wide association statistics. Results Through a comprehensive and meticulous screening process, we incorporated 46, 7, 12, 20, 5, and 53 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) as instrumental variables (IVs) for hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), type 1 diabetes (T1D), multiple sclerosis (MS), and overall autoimmune disease, respectively. Our analysis revealed that hypothyroidism (OR = 1.023, 95% CI: 1.008-1.038, p = 0.0015), hyperthyroidism (OR = 1.024, 95% CI: 1.004-1.045, p = 0.0163), RA (OR = 1.031, 95% CI: 1.011-1.052, p = 0.0017), T1D (OR = 1.011, 95% CI: 1.004-1.017, p = 0.0012), and overall autoimmune disease (OR = 1.044, 95% CI: 1.028-1.061, p = 5.32*10^-8) exhibited a positive causal effect on frailty. Conversely, there may be a negative causal association between MS (OR = 0.984, 95% CI: 0.977-0.992, p = 4.87*10^-5) and frailty. Cochran's Q test indicated heterogeneity among IVs derived from hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, T1D, and overall autoimmune diseases. The MR-Egger regression analyzes revealed an absence of horizontal pleiotropy in any of the conducted analyses. Conclusion This study elucidates that hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, RA, T1D, and overall autoimmune disease were linked to an elevated risk of frailty. Conversely, MS appears to be associated with a potential decrease in the risk of frailty.

Abstract
Background Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) have a high serum concentration of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), whereas their serum-free thyroxine concentrations are normal. Lipid metabolism is regulated in large part by thyroid hormones. It could be connected to a changed lipid profile. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between SCH and alterations in the lipid profile. Methodology Data from 99 patients with SCH and 109 euthyroid cases were collected from King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 2016 to 2022. Patients older than 18 years were included in the study. The groups were matched in terms of gender, age, and body mass index. SCH was defined as a TSH value of 4.5 to 10 mIU/L, and normal T4 as 5 to 18 μg/dL. Control cases had a normal TSH ranging from 0.45 to 4.5 mIU/L. The total serum cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglyceride (TG) levels in both groups were examined and the results were recorded. Results In comparison to the control group, SCH patients had greater median glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) (p = 0.001) and lower median vitamin D levels (p = 0.004) before therapy. Before therapy, SCH patients also showed considerably lower HDL levels and significantly higher LDL and TG levels (p < 0.001). Conclusions There is a substantial correlation between SCH and reduced HDL and vitamin D levels. It was linked to increased TG, LDL, and HbA1c levels. Only vitamin D and LDL were pathologically high. Treatment with levothyroxine raised total and LDL cholesterol levels. Future research should look into the affordability of treating SCH.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purposes of this study were to assess the changes in body composition in patients who underwent thyroidectomy due to differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) after radioactive iodine therapy (RAI) and short-term levothyroxine (LT4) supplementation and to explore the correlations between body composition distribution and corresponding blood indices. METHODS Fifty-seven thyroidectomized DTC patients were included. Serum was tested for several biochemical indices of thyroid function, lipids, and bone metabolism, and body composition parameters were measured via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry before and 4-6 weeks after RAI and LT4 supplementation. RESULTS The body composition of DTC patients changed after RAI. Fat mass in all parts of the body decreased (range of relative change (RRC) -12.97--2.80%). Bone mineral content (BMC) increased throughout the body (relative change (RC) 12.12%), head (RC 36.23%), pelvis (RC 9.00%), and legs (RC 3.15%). Similarly, bone mineral density (BMD) increased in different regions (RRC 3.60-26.43%), except for the arms. Notably, lean mass in the arms (RC 4.30%) and legs (RC 3.67%) increased, while that in the head decreased (RC -2.75%), while total lean mass did not change at 4-6 weeks after LT4 supplementation. Furthermore, changes in fat distribution in the android region were related to the changes in total cholesterol (r = -0.390) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r = -0.354), and changes in the BMC and BMD of the lumbar spine were positively associated with the changes in calcitonin (r = 0.302 and 0.325, respectively). CONCLUSIONS After RAI and short-term LT4 supplementation in DTC patients, body composition rapidly and positively changed and was characterized by decreased fat mass and increased BMC and BMD.

Abstract
PURPOSE Observational studies and clinical validation have suggested a link between thyroid dysfunction and an elevated ovarian cancer (OC) risk. However, whether this association indicates a cause-and-effect relationship remains uncertain. We aimed to investigate the plausible causal impact of thyroid dysfunction on OC through a Mendelian randomization (MR) study. METHODS Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data for thyrotropin (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4), hypothyroidism, and hyperthyroidism were obtained as exposures and those for OC (N = 199,741) were selected as outcomes. Inverse variance-weighted method was used as the main estimation method. A series of sensitivity analyses, including Cochran's Q test, MR-Egger intercept analysis, forest plot scatter plot, and leave-one-out test, was conducted to assess the robustness of the estimates. RESULTS Genetic prediction of hyperthyroidism was associated with a potential increase in OC risk (odds ratio = 1.094, 95% confidence interval: 1.029-1.164, p = 0.004). However, no evidence of causal effects of hypothyroidism, TSH, and FT4 on OC or reverse causality was detected. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated consistent and reliable results, with no significant estimates of heterogeneity or pleiotropy. CONCLUSIONS This study employed MR to establish a correlation between hyperthyroidism and OC risk. By genetically predicting OC risk in patients with hyperthyroidism, our research suggests new insights for early prevention and intervention of OC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The major changes in the timing of meals during Ramadan may be challenging for hypothyroid patients on levothyroxine. We aimed to study the effect of Ramadan fasting on thyroid functions in hypothyroid patients taking levothyroxine. METHODS We did a comprehensive search of 8 databases for Randomized controlled studies (RCTs) and observational studies investigating the effect of Ramadan fasting on thyroid functions in hypothyroid individuals taking levothyroxine. Relevant data was extracted and analyzed. Mean difference (MD) and standard deviation (SD) were used to evaluate the continuous data. Risk ratios (RR) with a 95% confidence interval were used for outcomes constituting dichotomous data. National Institutes of Health (NIH) tools were used to assess the risk of bias. RESULTS Fourteen studies met our inclusion criteria, 3 RCTs, and 11 observational studies, all designed as pre-post studies. Ramadan fasting was associated with a statistically significant increase in TSH in patients who were euthyroid before Ramadan (MD = -0.76 [95% CI; -1.27, -0.25]). However, free thyroxine (FT4) was found to be stable (MD = 0.01, [95% CI; -0.03, 0.06]). All timing points were associated with a significant increase in TSH levels after Ramadan, pre-iftar (MD = -0.69 [95% CI; -1.03, -0.36]), post-iftar (MD = -0.76 [95% CI; -1.12, -0.39]), and pre-suhoor (MD = -1.19 [95% CI; -2.18, -0.19]). CONCLUSION TSH increases significantly after Ramadan. No timing point has superiority in maintaining thyroid control. However, choosing the timing should be individualized according to the patient's preference to guarantee the most possible compliance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the genetic underpinnings of the association between type 2 diabetes (T2D), glycemic indicators such as fasting glucose (FG), fasting insulin (FI), and glycated hemoglobin (GH), and venous thromboembolism (VTE), encompassing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), thereby contributing novel insights to the scholarly discourse within this domain. METHODS Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data pertaining to exposures (T2D, FG, FI, GH) and outcomes (VTE, DVT, PE) were acquired from the IEU Open GWAS database, encompassing participants of European descent, including both male and female individuals. Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted utilizing the TwoSampleMR and MRPRESSO packages within the R programming environment. The primary analytical approach employed was the random-effects inverse variance weighted (IVW) method. Heterogeneity was assessed via Cochran's Q statistic for MR-IVW and Rucker's Q statistic for MR-Egger. Horizontal pleiotropy was evaluated using the intercept test of MR Egger and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO) analysis, with the latter also employed for outlier detection. Additionally, a "Leave one out" analysis was conducted to ascertain the influence of individual single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on MR results. RESULTS The random-effects IVW analysis revealed a negative genetic causal association between T2D) and VTE (P = 0.008, Odds Ratio [OR] 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.896 [0.827-0.972]), as well as between FG and VTE (P = 0.002, OR 95% CI = 0.655 [0.503-0.853]), GH and VTE (P = 0.010, OR 95% CI = 0.604 [0.412-0.884]), and GH and DVT (P = 0.002, OR 95% CI = 0.413 [0.235-0.725]). Conversely, the random-effects IVW analysis did not detect a genetic causal relationship between FI and VTE (P > 0.05), nor between T2D, FG, or FI and DVT (P > 0.05), or between T2D, FG, FI, or GH and PE (P > 0.05). Both the Cochran's Q statistic for MR-IVW and Rucker's Q statistic for MR-Egger indicated no significant heterogeneity (P > 0.05). Moreover, the intercept tests of MR Egger and MR-PRESSO suggested the absence of horizontal pleiotropy (P > 0.05). MR-PRESSO analysis identified no outliers, while the "Leave one out" analysis underscored that the MR analysis was not influenced by any single SNP. CONCLUSION Our investigation revealed that T2D, FG, and GH exhibit negative genetic causal relationships with VTE at the genetic level, while GH demonstrates a negative genetic causal relationship with DVT at the genetic level. These findings furnish genetic-level evidence warranting further examination of VTE, DVT, and PE, thereby making a contribution to the advancement of related research domains.

Abstract
Background Numerous observational studies have indicated a link between the composition of gut microbiota and thyroid function. Nevertheless, the precise causal relationship between gut microbiota and thyroid function remains uncertain. Methods In this two-sample Mendelian randomization study, we utilized summary data from a genome-wide association study of gut microbiota composition in 18,340 participants from 24 cohorts, as well as summary statistics on thyroid hormones and thyroid-stimulating hormone from the ThyroidOmics Consortium and summary statistics on hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism from the FinnGen R8 release. Five different methods, including inverse variance weighting, MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted mode, and simple mode, were employed to examine the causal relationship between gut microbiota and thyroid function. Reverse Mendelian randomization analysis was conducted for taxa identified as having a causal relationship with thyroid function in the Mendelian randomization analysis. To assess the robustness of the results, sensitivity analyses were conducted employing Cochran's Q test, MR-Egger intercept test, MR-PRESSO global test, and leave-one-out analysis. Results Through MR analysis of 211 microbial taxa and 4 phenotypes, we identified a total of 34 gut microbiota taxa that were associated with the outcomes. After using the bonferroni method for multiple testing correction, phylum Actinobacteria (id.400) had a protective effect on hypothyroidism (OR=0.883, 95% CI: 0.817-0.955, P=0.002), and class Deltaproteobacteria (id.3087) had a protective effect on hyperthyroidism (OR=0.549, 95% CI: 0.374-0.805, P=0.002). According to the results of reverse MR analysis, no significant causal effect of the four phenotypes was found on gut microbiota. No significant horizontal pleiotropy was detected based on MR-Egger intercept test and MR-PRESSO global test. Conclusion Through two-sample MR analysis, we identified specific gut microbiota taxa at the genetic level that are predicted to have a causal relationship with thyroid function, which may serve as useful biomarkers for early disease diagnosis.

Abstract
Purpose To determine whether thyroid-stimulating hormone level ≥ 30 mU/L is necessary for radioiodine (131I) remnant ablation (RRA) in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), as well as its influencing factors and predictors. Methods A total of 487 DTC patients were retrospectively enrolled in this study. They were divided into two groups (TSH < 30 and ≥ 30 mU/L) and further divided into eight subgroups (0-<30, 30-<40, 40-<50, 50-<60, 60-<70, 70-<80, 80-<90, and 90-<100 mU/L). The simultaneous serum lipid level, successful rate of RRA and its influencing factors in different groups were analyzed. The receiver operating characteristic curves derived from pre-ablative thyroglobulin (pre-Tg) and pre-Tg/TSH ratio were compared for RRA success prediction performance. Results There was no statistical difference in success rates of RRA between the two groups (P = 0.247) and eight subgroups (P = 0.685). Levels of total cholesterol (P < 0.001), triglyceride (P = 0.006), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.024), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.001), apolipoprotein B (P < 0.001), and apolipoprotein E (P = 0.002) were significantly higher while apoA/apoB ratio (P = 0.024) was significantly lower at TSH ≥ 30 mU/L group. Pre-Tg level, gender, and N stage were influencing factors for RRA. The area under the curve of pre-Tg level and pre-Tg/TSH ratio was 0.7611 (P < 0.0001) and 0.7340 (P < 0.0001) for all enrolled patients and 0.7310 (P = 0.0145) and 0.6524 (P = 0.1068) for TSH < 30 mU/L, respectively. Conclusion TSH ≥ 30 mU/L may not be necessary for the success of RRA. Patients with higher serum TSH levels prior to RRA will suffer from severer hyperlipidemia. Pre-Tg level could be used as a predictor for the success of RRA, especially when TSH < 30 mU/L.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global problem. It may be caused by metabolic and hormonal disorders, including hypothyroidism. However, non-thyroid causes of NAFLD in people with hypothyroidism, including improper eating behavior and low physical activity, should be acknowledged. This study aimed to present the current literature on whether the development of NAFLD is related to hypothyroidism or a typical consequence of an unhealthy lifestyle in people with hypothyroidism. The results of previous studies do not allow for an unequivocal determination of the pathogenetic relationship between hypothyroidism and NAFLD. Important non-thyroid-initiating factors include providing too many calories in relation to requirements, consuming excessive amounts of monosaccharides and saturated fats, being overweight, and maintaining low physical activity levels. The recommended nutritional model for both hypothyroidism and NAFLD may be the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits and vegetables, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and vitamin E.

Abstract
Comorbid glucose metabolism abnormalities are very common in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), and glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism are closely related. However, there are few researches on the incidence and related factors of lipid metabolism abnormalities among MDD patients with comorbid glucose metabolism abnormalities. A cross-sectional study involving 1718 first-episode and drug-naïve (FEDN) MDD patients was conducted. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) positive subscale were utilized to evaluate depressive, anxiety and psychotic symptom, respectively. Serum thyroid function-related parameters, glucose- and lipid-metabolism parameters were measured. The prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism was significantly higher in FEDN MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism than in those without abnormal glucose metabolism (P < 0.001). In MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism, TSH, FT3 and body mass index (BMI) levels were significantly higher in the abnormal lipid metabolism subgroup than in the non-abnormal lipid metabolism subgroup. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that TSH, FT3 and BMI were the influencing factors of abnormal lipid metabolism in MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism (all P < 0.05). MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism have a high prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism. Moreover, abnormal glucose metabolism was an independent risk factor for abnormal lipid metabolism in patients with MDD. In addition, thyroid hormone function and BMI may contribute to the co-occurrence of abnormal lipid metabolism in MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism.

Abstract
This study aims to explore the influences of a methionine-restricted diet (MRD) on fat browning and hepatic lipid accumulation in mice fed with a high-choline diet (HCD) and their possible mechanisms. ICR mice were randomly divided into three groups and fed with a normal diet (0.86% methionine + 0.20% choline, ND), HCD (0.86% methionine + 1.20% choline), or MRD (0.17% methionine + 1.20% choline) for 90 consecutive days. We found that MRD reduced body weight and fat mass; increased heat production and ambulatory locomotor activity; reduced hepatic and plasma lipid levels, hepatic fatty infiltration area, and adipocyte volume in white and brown adipose tissue; promoted fat browning, especially upregulated gene and protein expression levels of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1); and promoted fat catabolism and inhibited fat anabolism in the liver and adipose tissue. Moreover, MRD increased antioxidant defenses and reduced inflammatory cytokine levels in the thyroid, blood, and liver. Furthermore, MRD improved thyroid morphological structure, promoted the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones, and enhanced the actions of thyroid hormones on its receptor organs (liver and adipose tissue). These findings suggested that MRD promoted fat browning and attenuated hepatic lipid accumulation in HCD mice associated with the improvement of thyroid function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipid metabolism is associated with glucose metabolism, but whether there are variations between sexes in risk factors and prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with glucose metabolism abnormalities remains ambiguous. In the present study, the frequency and risk factors of dyslipidemia in first-episode and drug-naïve (FEDN) MDD patients with dysglycemia were examined according to sex. METHODS One thousand seven hundred and eighteen FEDN MDD patients were recruited and their demographic data, clinical data, various biochemical indicators and scale assessment scores including 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA-14), and positive subscale of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were collected. RESULTS The prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism in both male and female MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism was higher than that in patients without abnormal glucose metabolism. Among male MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism, TC was positively correlated with HAMD score, TSH and TgAb levels, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale scores. LDL-C was positively correlated with TSH and BMI, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale scores. HDL-C was negatively correlated with TSH levels. Among females, TC was positively correlated with HAMD score, TSH, and BMI, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale score. LDL-C was positively correlated with HADM score and negatively correlated with FT3 level. HDL-C was negatively correlated with TSH and BMI levels. CONCLUSION There are sex differences in the correlated factors of lipid markers in MDD patients with impaired glucose.

Abstract
Background Studies have demonstrated the associations between pre-pregnancy obesity, thyroid dysfunction, dyslipidemia, and increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women. This study was designed to investigate whether and to what extent, the interactions between these factors contribute to the risk of GDM. Methods A case–control study of 232 GDM cases and 696 controls was conducted among pregnant women from Hangzhou, China. Multiple logistic regression analysis was applied to identify independent risk factors of GDM. Crossover analysis was performed to assess the interactive effects of pre-pregnancy body mass index (pBMI), thyroid hormones, and blood lipid profiles on the risk of GDM. The indexes including attributable proportion (AP) to the interaction and the relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) were calculated. Results Chinese pregnant women with pBMI > 23 kg/m2 (adjusted: OR = 4.162, p < 0.001), high triglyceride levels (> 2.30 mmol/L) (adjusted: OR = 1.735, p < 0.001), and the free triiodothyronine/free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio ≥ 0.502 (OR = 4.162, p < 0.001) have significantly increased risk of GDM. Crossover analysis indicated that there were significant interactions between pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity and FT3/FT4 ≥ 0.502 (AP = 0.550, p < 0.001; RERI = 7.586, p = 0.009), high TG levels and FT3/FT4 ≥ 0.502 (AP = 0.348, 95%CI = 0.081–0.614, P = 0.010; RERI = 2.021, 95%CI = 0.064–3.978, p = 0.043) on the risk of GDM. Conclusion The interactions between pBMI and FT3/FT4 ratio, TG level and FT3/FT4 ratio may have significant impacts on the risk of GDM in pregnant women. Such findings may help improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of GDM as well as develop comprehensive strategies for the management of GDM.

Association Between Thyroid Dysfunction and Incidence of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients With Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy. Front Endocrinol (Lausanne) 2022; 13:875003. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the correlation between the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and thyroid dysfunction in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). METHODS Thyroid function testing in 755 consecutive patients with HOCM were examined at the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases (China) from October 2009 to December 2013. Patients were divided into four groups according to the TSH levels: TSH<0.55 mIU/L(n=37)、0.55~2.49 mIU/L (n=490)、2.50~9.9 mIU/L (n=211) and >10.00mIU/L(n=17). RESULTS A total of 107 patients were diagnosed with AF (14%).(1) Compared to HOCM patients without AF,HOCM patients with AF have older age (P<0.001), higher NT-proBNP (P=0.002), higher Cr (P=0.005), larger left atrial diameter(P=0.001), lower FT3 (P=0.046), higher FT4 (P=0.004).(2) In the four groups according to the TSH levels: TSH<0.55 mIU/L, 0.55~2.49mIU/L, 2.50~9.9mIU/L and ≥10.00mIU/L, the incidence of AF was 27.02%(10/37),10.20%(50/490), 19.43%(41/211), and 35.29%(6/17), respectively. Both high and low TSH levels were associated with an increased incidence of AF. After adjusting for the common risk factor (age, NT-proBNP, and so on), stepwise multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that TSH levels were significantly related to AF incidence.Compared to patients with TSH 0.55~2.49 mlU/L, the adjusted odds ratio of AF for TSH<0.55, 2.50~9.99, ≥10.00 mIU/L were 1.481 (95% CI 0.485~4.518,P=0.490), 1.977 (95%CI 1.115~3.506, p=0.02), 4.301 (95%CI 1.059~17.476, P=0.041), respectively. CONCLUSION Our results suggested that thyroid dysfunction was associated with an increased risk of AF in patients with HOCM.
