Abstract
Mathematically, topological invariants arise from the parallel transport of eigenstates on the energy bands, which, in physics, correspond to the adiabatic dynamical evolution of transient states. It determines the presence of boundary states, while lacking direct measurements. Here, we develop time-varying programmable coupling circuits between acoustic cavities to mimic the Hamiltonians in the Brillouin zone, with which excitation and adiabatic evolution of bulk states are realized in a unit cell. By extracting the Berry phases of the bulk band, topological invariants, including the Zak phase for the SSH model and the Chern number for the AAH model, are obtained convincingly. The bulk state evolution also provides insight into the topological charges of the newly developed non-Abelian models, which are also verified by observing the adiabatic eigenframe rotation. Our Letter not only provides a general recipe for telling various topological invariants but also sheds light on transient acoustic wave manipulations.

Abstract
The measurement of topological numbers is crucial in the research of topological systems. In this article, we propose a protocol for obtaining the topological number (specifically, winding numbers in this case) of an unknown one-dimensional (1D) two-band topological system by comparing it with a known topological system. We consider two 1D two-band topological systems and their Bloch wavefunction overlap and verify a theorem. This theorem states that when the momentum varies by 2π, the number of cycles during which the magnitude of the wavefunction overlap varies from 0 to 1 and then back to 0 is equal to the absolute value of the difference between the topological numbers of these two systems. Furthermore, we propose two experimental schemes, one in a cold atom system and another one in a qubit system, which offer convenient and robust measurement methods for determining topological numbers of unknown states through quenching.

Abstract
The realization of spin-orbit-coupled ultracold gases has driven a wide range of research and is typically based on the rotating wave approximation (RWA). By neglecting the counter-rotating terms, RWA characterizes a single near-resonant spin-orbit (SO) coupling in a two-level system. Here, we propose and experimentally realize a new scheme for achieving a pair of two-dimensional (2D) SO couplings for ultracold fermions beyond RWA. This work not only realizes the first anomalous Floquet topological Fermi gas beyond RWA, but also significantly improves the lifetime of the 2D-SO-coupled Fermi gas. Based on pump-probe quench measurements, we observe a deterministic phase relation between two sets of SO couplings, which is characteristic of our beyond-RWA scheme and enables the two SO couplings to be simultaneously tuned to the optimum 2D configurations. We observe intriguing band topology by measuring two-ring band-inversion surfaces, quantitatively consistent with a Floquet topological Fermi gas in the regime of high Chern numbers. Our study can open an avenue to explore exotic SO physics and anomalous topological states based on long-lived SO-coupled ultracold fermions.

Abstract
We predict novel topological phases with broken time-reversal symmetry supporting the coexistence of opposite chiral edge states, which are fundamentally different from the photonic spin-Hall, valley-Hall, and higher-order topological phases. We find a fine-grained categorization of Chern insulators, their band topologies characterized by identical Chern numbers are completely different. Furthermore, we prove that different topologies cause zeros in their Bloch wave function overlaps, which imprint the band gap closing and appear at the degenerate points of topological phase transition. The Bloch wave function overlaps predict the reflection and refraction at a topological time boundary, and the overlap zeros ensure the existence of vanishing revival amplitude at critical times even though different topologies before and after the time boundary have identical Chern numbers. Our findings create new opportunities for topological metamaterials, uncover the topological feature hidden in the time boundary effect as a probe of topology, and open a venue for the exploration of the rich physics originating from the long-range couplings.

Abstract
Topological phases characterized by non-Abelian charges are beyond the scope of the paradigmatic tenfold way and have gained increasing attention recently. Here we investigate topological insulators with multiple tangled gaps in Floquet settings and identify uncharted Floquet non-Abelian topological insulators without any static or Abelian analog. We demonstrate that the bulk-edge correspondence is multifold and follows the multiplication rule of the quaternion group Q8. The same quaternion charge corresponds to several distinct edge-state configurations that are fully determined by phase-band singularities of the time evolution. In the anomalous non-Abelian phase, edge states appear in all bandgaps despite trivial quaternion charge. Furthermore, we uncover an exotic swap effect-the emergence of interface modes with swapped driving, which is a signature of the non-Abelian dynamics and absent in Floquet Abelian systems. Our work, for the first time, presents Floquet topological insulators characterized by non-Abelian charges and opens up exciting possibilities for exploring the rich and uncharted territory of non-equilibrium topological phases.

Abstract
We propose a novel spatially inhomogeneous setup for revealing quench-induced fractionalized excitations in entanglement dynamics. In this quench-probe setting, the region undergoing a quantum quench is tunnel coupled to a static region, the probe. Subsequently, the time-dependent entanglement signatures of a tunable subset of excitations propagating to the probe are monitored by energy selectivity. We exemplify the power of this generic approach by identifying a unique dynamical signature associated with the presence of an isolated Majorana zero mode in the postquench Hamiltonian. In this case excitations emitted from the topological part of the system give rise to a fractionalized jump of log(2)/2 in the entanglement entropy of the probe. This dynamical effect is highly sensitive to the localized nature of the Majorana zero mode, but does not require the preparation of a topological initial state.

Abstract
The notion of topological phases extended to dynamical systems stimulates extensive studies, of which the characterization of nonequilibrium topological invariants is a central issue and usually necessitates the information of quantum dynamics in both the time and momentum dimensions. Here, we propose the topological holographic quench dynamics in synthetic dimension, and also show it provides a highly efficient scheme to characterize photonic topological phases. A pseudospin model is constructed with ring resonators in a synthetic lattice formed by frequencies of light, and the quench dynamics is induced by initializing a trivial state, which evolves under a topological Hamiltonian. Our key prediction is that the complete topological information of the Hamiltonian is encoded in quench dynamics solely in the time dimension, and is further mapped to lower-dimensional space, manifesting the holographic features of the dynamics. In particular, two fundamental time scales emerge in the dynamical evolution, with one mimicking the topological band on the momentum dimension and the other characterizing the residue time evolution of the state after the quench. For this, a universal duality between the quench dynamics and the equilibrium topological phase of the spin model is obtained in the time dimension by extracting information from the field evolution dynamics in modulated ring systems in simulations. This work also shows that the photonic synthetic frequency dimension provides an efficient and powerful way to explore the topological nonequilibrium dynamics.

Abstract
Higher-order topological phases give rise to new bulk and boundary physics, as well as new classes of topological phase transitions. While the realization of higher-order topological phases has been confirmed in many platforms by detecting the existence of gapless boundary modes, a direct determination of the higher-order topology and related topological phase transitions through the bulk in experiments has still been lacking. To bridge the gap, in this work we carry out the simulation of a two-dimensional second-order topological phase in a superconducting qubit. Owing to the great flexibility and controllability of the quantum simulator, we observe the realization of higher-order topology directly through the measurement of the pseudo-spin texture in momentum space of the bulk for the first time, in sharp contrast to previous experiments based on the detection of gapless boundary modes in real space. Also through the measurement of the evolution of pseudo-spin texture with parameters, we further observe novel topological phase transitions from the second-order topological phase to the trivial phase, as well as to the first-order topological phase with nonzero Chern number. Our work sheds new light on the study of higher-order topological phases and topological phase transitions.

Abstract
Direct measurement of a bulk topological observable in topological phase of matter has been a long-standing issue. Recently, detection of bulk topology through quench dynamics has attracted growing interests. Here, we propose that topological characters of a quantum quadrupole insulator can be read out by quench dynamics. Specifically, we introduce a quantity, a quadrupole moment weighted by the eigenvalues of the chiral operator, which takes zero for the trivial phase and finite for the quadrupolar topological phase. By utilizing an efficient numerical method to track the unitary time evolution, we elucidate that the quantity we propose indeed serves as an indicator of topological character for both noninteracting and interacting cases. The robustness against disorders is also demonstrated.

Abstract
Knots have a twisted history in quantum physics. They were abandoned as failed models of atoms. Only much later was the connection between knot invariants and Wilson loops in topological quantum field theory discovered. Here we show that knots tied by the eigenenergy strings provide a complete topological classification of one-dimensional non-Hermitian (NH) Hamiltonians with separable bands. A Z_{2} knot invariant, the global biorthogonal Berry phase Q as the sum of the Wilson loop eigenphases, is proved to be equal to the permutation parity of the NH bands. We show the transition between two phases characterized by distinct knots occur through exceptional points and come in two types. We further develop an algorithm to construct the corresponding tight-binding NH Hamiltonian for any desired knot, and propose a scheme to probe the knot structure via quantum quench. The theory and algorithm are demonstrated by model Hamiltonians that feature, for example, the Hopf link, the trefoil knot, the figure-8 knot, and the Whitehead link.

Abstract
The conventional characterization of periodically driven systems usually necessitates the time-domain information beyond Floquet bands, hence lacking universal and direct schemes of measuring Floquet topological invariants. Here we propose a unified theory, based on quantum quenches, to characterize generic d-dimensional Floquet topological phases in which the topological invariants are constructed with only minimal information of the static Floquet bands. For a d-dimensional phase that is initially static and trivial, we introduce the quench dynamics by suddenly turning on the periodic driving. We show that the quench dynamics exhibits emergent topological patterns in (d-1)-dimensional momentum subspaces where Floquet bands cross, from which the Floquet topological invariants are directly obtained. This result provides a simple and unified characterization in which one can extract the number of conventional and anomalous Floquet boundary modes and identify the topologically protected singularities in the phase bands. These applications are illustrated with one- and two-dimensional models that are readily accessible in cold-atom experiments. Our study opens a new framework for the characterization of Floquet topological phases.

Abstract
The last years have witnessed rapid progress in the topological characterization of out-of-equilibrium systems. We report on robust signatures of a new type of topology-the Euler class-in such a dynamical setting. The enigmatic invariant (ξ) falls outside conventional symmetry-eigenvalue indicated phases and, in simplest incarnation, is described by triples of bands that comprise a gapless pair featuring 2ξ stable band nodes, and a gapped band. These nodes host non-Abelian charges and can be further undone by converting their charge upon intricate braiding mechanisms, revealing that Euler class is a fragile topology. We theoretically demonstrate that quenching with nontrivial Euler Hamiltonian results in stable monopole-antimonopole pairs, which in turn induce a linking of momentum-time trajectories under the first Hopf map, making the invariant experimentally observable. Detailing explicit tomography protocols in a variety of cold-atom setups, our results provide a basis for exploring new topologies and their interplay with crystalline symmetries in optical lattices beyond paradigmatic Chern insulators.
