Topological spin-orbit-coupled fermions beyond rotating wave approximation

The realization of spin-orbit-coupled ultracold gases has driven a wide range of research and is typically based on the rotating wave approximation (RWA). By neglecting the counter-rotating terms, RWA characterizes a single near-resonant spin-orbit (SO) coupling in a two-level system. Here, we propose and experimentally realize a new scheme for achieving a pair of two-dimensional (2D) SO couplings for ultracold fermions beyond RWA. This work not only realizes the first anomalous Floquet topological Fermi gas beyond RWA, but also significantly improves the lifetime of the 2D-SO-coupled Fermi gas. Based on pump-probe quench measurements, we observe a deterministic phase relation between two sets of SO couplings, which is characteristic of our beyond-RWA scheme and enables the two SO couplings to be simultaneously tuned to the optimum 2D configurations. We observe intriguing band topology by measuring two-ring band-inversion surfaces, quantitatively consistent with a Floquet topological Fermi gas in the regime of high Chern numbers. Our study can open an avenue to explore exotic SO physics and anomalous topological states based on long-lived SO-coupled ultracold fermions.

Effects of Soliton Creation on Transient Transport through a Polymer Chain

By using a nonadiabatic molecular dynamics method combined with the hierarchical equations of motion, we have investigated the nonequilibrium transient transport through a conjugated polymer chain. The polymer chain is described by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, and its two ends are coupled with metal electrodes of different chemical potentials. In order to present the evolutions of the electronic injection and transport in the real-time domain, we have mainly discussed the dynamic relaxation processes of the excited states and transient transport currents. It is found that due to the existence of electron-phonon couplings in the conjugated polymers, creation of solitons not only affects the time of the system achieving the steady state but also leads to periodical oscillations of the steady-state transport currents with time in our simulations. Furthermore, with increasing applied bias voltage, the steady-state transport electronic current increases, which proved that the creation of the solitons can assist the electronic transport. These results have shown that the creation of the excited states is important in understanding the transport properties in organic nanostructures.

Realization of Gapped and Ungapped Photonic Topological Anderson Insulators

It is commonly believed that topologically nontrivial one-dimensional systems support edge states rather than bulk states at zero energy. In this work, we find an unanticipated case of topological Anderson insulator (TAI) phase where two bulk modes are degenerate at zero energy, in addition to degenerate edge modes. We term this "ungapped TAI" to distinguish it from the previously known gapped TAIs. Our experimental realization of both gapped and ungapped TAIs relies on coupled photonic resonators, in which the disorder in coupling is judiciously engineered by adjusting the spacing between the resonators. By measuring the local density of states both in the bulk and at the edges, we demonstrate the existence of these two types of TAIs, together forming a TAI plateau in the phase diagram. Our experimental findings are well supported by theoretical analysis. In the ungapped TAI phase, we observe stable coexistence of topological edge states and localized bulk states at zero energy, highlighting the distinction between TAIs and traditional topological insulators.

Exact New Mobility Edges between Critical and Localized States

The disorder systems host three types of fundamental quantum states, known as the extended, localized, and critical states, of which the critical states remain being much less explored. Here we propose a class of exactly solvable models which host a novel type of exact mobility edges (MEs) separating localized states from robust critical states, and propose experimental realization. Here the robustness refers to the stability against both single-particle perturbation and interactions in the few-body regime. The exactly solvable one-dimensional models are featured by a quasiperiodic mosaic type of both hopping terms and on-site potentials. The analytic results enable us to unambiguously obtain the critical states which otherwise require arduous numerical verification including the careful finite size scalings. The critical states and new MEs are shown to be robust, illustrating a generic mechanism unveiled here that the critical states are protected by zeros of quasiperiodic hopping terms in the thermodynamic limit. Further, we propose a novel experimental scheme to realize the exactly solvable model and the new MEs in an incommensurate Rydberg Raman superarray. This Letter may pave a way to precisely explore the critical states and new ME physics with experimental feasibility.

Berry Curvature and Bulk-Boundary Correspondence from Transport Measurement for Photonic Chern Bands

Berry curvature is a fundamental element to characterize topological quantum physics, while a full measurement of Berry curvature in momentum space was not reported for topological states. Here we achieve two-dimensional Berry curvature reconstruction in a photonic quantum anomalous Hall system via Hall transport measurement of a momentum-resolved wave packet. Integrating measured Berry curvature over the two-dimensional Brillouin zone, we obtain Chern numbers corresponding to -1 and 0. Further, we identify bulk-boundary correspondence by measuring topology-linked chiral edge states at the boundary. The full topological characterization of photonic Chern bands from Berry curvature, Chern number, and edge transport measurements enables our photonic system to serve as a versatile platform for further in-depth study of novel topological physics.

Direct extraction of topological Zak phase with the synthetic dimension

Measuring topological invariants is an essential task in characterizing topological phases of matter. They are usually obtained from the number of edge states due to the bulk-edge correspondence or from interference since they are integrals of the geometric phases in the energy band. It is commonly believed that the bulk band structures could not be directly used to obtain the topological invariants. Here, we implement the experimental extraction of Zak phase from the bulk band structures of a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model in the synthetic frequency dimension. Such synthetic SSH lattices are constructed in the frequency axis of light, by controlling the coupling strengths between the symmetric and antisymmetric supermodes of two bichromatically driven rings. We measure the transmission spectra and obtain the projection of the time-resolved band structure on lattice sites, where a strong contrast between the non-trivial and trivial topological phases is observed. The topological Zak phase is naturally encoded in the bulk band structures of the synthetic SSH lattices, which can hence be experimentally extracted from the transmission spectra in a fiber-based modulated ring platform using a laser with telecom wavelength. Our method of extracting topological phases from the bulk band structure can be further extended to characterize topological invariants in higher dimensions, while the exhibited trivial and non-trivial transmission spectra from the topological transition may find future applications in optical communications.

[Study on protective effects and mechanisms of total glucosides of Paeony on Graves disease in BALB/c mice]

Objective: To investigate the protective effect and its immunoregulatory mechanism of Total Glucosides of Paeony (TGP) against Graves' Disease (GD) model on BALB/c mice. Methods: Fifty female (6 weeks old, weighing 16-18 g) BALB/c mice of specific pathogen free were divided into control group according to random number table method, model group, early low-dose TGP intervention group (250 mg·kg^-1·d^-1), early high-dose TGP intervention group (500 mg·kg^-1·d^-1), and late TGP intervention group, with 10 mice in each group. Except the control group, the other 4 groups were immunized 3 times (0, 3^rd, and 6^th week) with recombinant adenovirus expressing the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) A subunit to establish the GD model. The early low-dose and high-dose intervention group were given diets containing different doses of TGP throughout the whole process, and the late intervention group was given diets containing low doses of TGP from the 1^st week after the 2^nd immunization (week 4). The levels of thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) and total thyroxine (TT4) were detected in the tail venous blood of mice at the 4^th week. At the 10^th week, the serum TRAb and TT4 levels and the ratio of regulatory T cells (Treg) in each group were detected, and the pathological changes of thyroid tissue were observed. Serum helper T cell 1(Th1) and Th2 cell-related factors interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-12p70, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factors-α (TNF-α) were detected to investigate the protective effect of TGP on GD model in BALB/c mice and its mechanism. Results: At the 4^th week, The level of TT4 [(55.07±12.89) μg/L] in early high-dose intervention group was lower than that in model group [(74.33±8.63) μg/L] (all P<0.05). The level of TT4 in early low-dose intervention group and late intervention group and model group had no statistical significance (all P>0.05). TRAb level of mice between early low-dose, early high-dose, late intervention groups and model group was no significant difference (all P>0.05). At the 10^th week, TRAb [(90.00±26.89) U/L] and TT4[(32.66±8.11) μg/L] levels in the early high-dose intervention group were lower than those in the model group [(396.97±95.35) U/L, (73.70±16.33) μg/L] (all P<0.05). The TRAb and TT4 levels in the early low-dose intervention group and late intervention group were not significantly different from those in the model group (all P>0.05). The thyroid tissue of hyperthyroidism mice in the early high dose intervention group showed focal hypertrophic changes, while the thyroid tissue of other hyperthyroidism mice showed diffuse hypertrophic changes. The CD4⁺CD25⁺/CD4⁺Treg ratio in early high-dose intervention group was higher than that in model group at the 10^th week (4 weeks after three recombinant adenovirus immunization) (P<0.05). Compared with the model group at the 10^th week, the levels of IL-2, IL-12p70 and IFN-γ in the early high-dose intervention group were all decreased (all P<0.05), and the levels of IL-10 were increased (P<0.05). Conclusion: Early high-dose (500 mg·kg^-1·d^-1) TGP intervention group displays a protective effect against GD mice, the mechanism of which may be related to regulatory T cell function changes and Th1/Th2 cytokine balance restoration.

[Effect of methylene blue labeling on therapeutic effect and prognosis of gastric cancer patients in D2 radical gastrectomy under laparoscope]

Objective: To investigate the effect of methylene blue tracing on the effect of surgical resection and the prognosis of gastric cancer patients in D2 radical surgery under laparoscope. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 160 patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent surgical treatment in Xinxiang Central Hospital, the 4th Clinical College of Xinxiang Medical College from January 2016 to January 2019 were selected for retrospective analysis. Among them, 84 patients underwent laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer combined with methylene blue labeling operation (labeling group), and the other 76 patients underwent only laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer (control group). The difference of intraoperative and postoperative recovery, lymph node dissection, and postoperative 3-year cumulative survival rate between the two groups were analyzed. Results: The age of patients in the labeled group and the control group were (64.9±7.8) and (66.0±8.3) years old, respectively (P=0.389); And the male patients accounted for 61.9% (52 cases) and 55.3% (42 cases), respectively (P=0.394); The operation time in the labeled group was (218.5±19.6) min, which was shorter than that in the control group (230.1±17.4) min (P<0.001). There was no significant difference between the labeled group and the control group in the amount of bleeding during operation, the time of anal exhaust after operation, the time of eating after operation, the time of hospitalization after operation, and the average diameter of lymph nodes (P>0.05). The total number of dissected lymph nodes, D1 lymph nodes and D2 lymph nodes in the labeled group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P values<0.05). The operative complication rate in the labeled group was 11.9% (10 cases), which was lower than that in the control group (25.0%, 19 cases) (P=0.032); There was no statistical significance in 3-year cumulative survival rates of patients between the labeled group (61.9%) and the control group (52.6%) (χ²=3.46,P=0.065). Conclusion: The use of methylene blue tracing in laparoscopic D2 radical surgery for gastric cancer is beneficial to reduce the operation time, improve the lymph node clearance rate, and reduce surgical complications.

Tuning Anomalous Floquet Topological Bands with Ultracold Atoms

The Floquet engineering opens the way to create new topological states without counterparts in static systems. Here, we report the experimental realization and characterization of new anomalous topological states with high-precision Floquet engineering for ultracold atoms trapped in a shaking optical Raman lattice. The Floquet band topology is manipulated by tuning the driving-induced band crossings referred to as band inversion surfaces (BISs), whose configurations fully characterize the topology of the underlying states. We uncover various exotic anomalous topological states by measuring the configurations of BISs that correspond to the bulk Floquet topology. In particular, we identify an unprecedented anomalous Floquet valley-Hall state that possesses anomalous helical-like edge modes protected by valleys and a chiral state with high Chern number.

Base MRI Imaging Characteristics of Meningioma Patients to Discuss the WHO Classification of Brain Invasion Otherwise Benign Meningiomas

PURPOSE

Compared and analyzed the MRI imaging features of brain invasion otherwise benign (BIOB) meningiomas and WHO grade 1, grade 2 meningiomas, discussed the WHO grading of BIOB from the perspective of imaging.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A retrospective analysis was performed on 675 meningiomas patients who carried on MRI examination from January 2006 to February 2022. Setting the 2022 Central nervous system (CNS) WHO Guidelines as the gold standard for pathological diagnosis. Statistical analysis of age, gender, and MRI features of meningiomas in relation to WHO grade and brain invasion.

RESULTS

Among 675 cases meningiomas, 543 (80.4%) were WHO grade 1, 123 (18.2%) were WHO grade 2, and 9 (1.3%) were WHO grade 3. There were 108 cases meningiomas with brain invasion (BI) (16.0%) and 567 cases without BI (84.0%). Among BI cases, 67 cases were BIOB. Compared the MRI features between BIOB and WHO grade 1 meningiomas, multivariate analysis demonstrated that the most strongly factors associated with distinguish them were enhancement degree, peritumoral edema, tumor-brain interface, fingerlike protrusion, mushroom sign, and bone invasion (AUC: 0.925 (0.901∼0.945), sensitivity: 0.925, specificity: 0.801). Compared the MRI features between BIOB and WHO grade 2 meningiomas, multivariate analysis demonstrated that the most strongly factors associated with distinguish them were enhancement degree and the tumor-brain interface (AUC: 0.779 (0.686∼0.841), sensitivity: 0.746, specificity: 0.732), their efficacy was slightly weaker.

CONCLUSIONS

BIOB is more similar to WHO grade 2 meningiomas in clinical and imaging features than WHO grade 1, so we think that it may be reasonable to classify BIOB as WHO Grade 2 meningiomas in the guidelines.

[The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with different types of acute ischemic stroke and its relationship with cryptogenic stroke]

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with different types of acute ischemic stroke and its relationship with cryptogenic stroke. Methods: Patients with acute ischemic stroke within 7 days of onset who were admitted to the Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January to September 2019 were prospectively and consecutively enrolled. All included patients were classified according to TOAST classification of ischemic stroke. Chi-square test was used to compare the prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy among patients with different TOAST classifications. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of cryptogenic stroke. Results: A total of 1 098 patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled in the study, including 661 males and 437 females, with a median age [M(Q₁,Q₃)] of 61 (53, 68) years. The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with cryptogenic stroke[53.5% (46/86)] was higher than that in patients with large artery atherosclerosis [38.0%(63/166), P=0.018] and small vessel occlusion [19.4%(37/191), P<0.001], but was lower than that of patients in the cardioembolic group [97.3% (72/74), P<0.001]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that atrial cardiomyopathy was an associated factor for cryptogenic stroke (OR=2.945, 95%CI: 1.766-4.911, P<0.001). Conclusions: Atrial cardiomyopathy is associated with cryptogenic stroke. The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with cryptogenic stroke is higher than that in patients with large artery atherosclerosis and small vessel occlusion, but lower than that in patients with cardiac embolism.

[The impact of the dosage of intraoperative opioids on postoperative survival outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer]

Objective: To investigate the impact of the dosage of intraoperative opioids on postoperative survival of pancreatic cancer patients who underwent pancreatectomy. Methods: The clinical data of 95 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent pancreatectomy at Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital from September 2013 to August 2018 were retrospectively collected. Dosage of intraoperative opioid medications was converted to fentanyl equivalent dose. Patients were divided into high-dose group (fentanyl consumption ≥2.21 mg, n=46) and low-dose group (fentanyl consumption<2.21 mg, n=49) according to the median intra-operative fentanyl equivalents. The relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) between the two groups were compared. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze the impact of important covariates on RFS and OS. Results: RFS of patients in low-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 75.5%, 26.5% and 15.2% respectively. OS of patients in low-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 77.6%, 32.5% and 24.4% respectively. RFS of patients in high-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 76.1%, 23.9% and 12.0% respectively. OS of patients in high-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 76.1%, 37.0% and 15.0%. There was no significant difference in RFS and OS between the two groups (all P>0.05). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that dosage of intraoperative fentanyl was not associated with RFS (HR=1.205, 95%CI: 0.737-1.970, P=0.456) or OS (HR=1.062, 95%CI: 0.634-1.778, P=0.818). Conclusion: Dosage of intraoperative opioid has no effect on RFS and OS in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing pancreatectomy.

[Effects of composite laser technique combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of hypertrophic scars in burn children]

Objective: To explore the effects of pulsed dye laser (PDL) and ultra-pulsed fractional carbon dioxide laser (UFCL) combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of red hypertrophic scar at early stage in burn children. Methods: A retrospective cohort before-after control study in the same patients was conducted. From February 2019 to December 2020, a total of 67 burn children who met the inclusion criteria (32 males and 35 females, aged 1 to 12 years) with red hyperplastic scar at early stage, were treated in Hunan Provincial People's Hospital (1st Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University). All the children were treated with composite laser technique (PDL and UFCL) combined with triamcinolone acetonide (hereinafter referred to as combined treatment). After 2 months, they received the second combined treatment. Before the first combined treatment and 6 months after the last combined treatment, the scar of children was evaluated with the patient and observer scar assessment scale (POSAS) by physicians and family members. Six months after the last combined treatment, the satisfaction of the patients' family members with the efficacy was recorded and the overall satisfaction rate was calculated. Adverse reactions were recorded throughout the treatment process. Data were statistically analyzed with paired sample t test. Results: Six months after the last combined treatment, the POSAS scores of children on the thickness, blood vessels distribution, color, surface roughness, texture, scope, and overall evaluation of scar evaluated by the physicians, and the POSAS scores of children on the color, degree of pain, degree of itching, hardness, thickness, shape and size, and overall evaluation of scar evaluated by the family members were significantly lower than those before the first combined treatment (with t values of 17.32, 16.73, 15.00, 14.91, 19.62, 28.74, 29.83, 17.43, 20.52, 29.01, 28.82, 24.91, 20.30, and 42.13, respectively, P<0.01). Six months after the last combined treatment, 62 (93%), 3 (4%), and 2 (3%) children's family members were very satisfied, satisfied, and relatively satisfied with the treatment effect, respectively, and the overall satisfaction rate was 97% (65/67). Six months after the last combined treatment, no scar thickening or infection occurred in all the wounds of children. Conclusions: Composite laser technique combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of red hypertrophic scar at early stage in burn children can improve the appearance and texture of scar, reduce scar pain and pruritus, with high satisfaction of children's family members to the treatment effect and less adverse reactions.

[Clinical characteristics and diagnosis and treatment strategies of patients with severe traumatic aortic injury]

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and diagnosis and treatment strategies of patients with severe traumatic aortic injury (TAI). Methods: A total of 25 patients with TAI, who hospitalized in our hospital between August 2005 to March 2021 and underwent thoracic aortic endovascular repair (TEVAR), were included in this retrospective study. According to the time from admission to TEVAR, the patients were divided into emergency TEVAR group (14 cases, TEVAR within 24 h of admission) and elective TEVAR group (11 cases, patients underwent surgery or fracture reduction and fixation first for serious injuries and then underwent TEVAR more than 24 h after admission). The general clinical data of patients, injury severity score (ISS), time from admission to intervention, total hospital stay, the proportion of closed chest drainage and the proportion of abdominal organ repair were obtained and compared. Clinical follow-up and 1-year postoperative aortic computed tomography angiography (CTA) were performed on the patients. Death, the occurrence of aortic adverse events and injury recovery were followed up and recorded. Results: The mean age of these 25 TAI patients was (41.4±14.4) years, 20 patients were males (80.0%). 21 patients (84.0%) had persistent chest and back pain, 17 (68.0%) had pleural effusion and 5 (20.0%) had mediastinal hematoma. The injury severity score (ISS) was significantly higher in the elective TEVAR group than in the emergency TEVAR group (24.9±14.4 vs. 35.5±9.3, P=0.044). The time from admission to intervention ((1.0±0.0) d vs. (3.4±0.9) d, P<0.001], the time from admission to TEVAR ((1.0±0.0) d vs. (11.5±13.8) d, P=0.030) and total hospital stay ((6.1±2.3) d vs. (26.8±7.7) d, P<0.001) were significantly longer in elective TEVAR group than in emergency TEVAR group. The proportion of thoracic closed drainage was significantly lower in the elective TEVAR group than in the emergency TEVAR group (9 (64.3%) vs. 2 (18.2%), P=0.042). The proportion of abdominal organ repair was significantly higher than in the emergency TEVAR group (0 vs. 4 (36.4%), P=0.026). All of 25 patients were discharged alive and followed up for (84.0±30.5) months. All patients survived and completed 1-year postoperation CTA. There were no aortic adverse events occurred, and no complications after surgery, and the fractures and organ injuries healed well. Conclusions: The clinical characteristics of severe TAI are acute multi-injuries combined with persistent chest and/or back pain, pleural effusion, and mediastinal hematoma. Timely diagnosis and treatment are important factors for the outcome. The treatment strategy for multi-injuries should give priority to dealing with life-threatening injuries. TEVAR is the primary treatment strategy for severe TAI and is related to satisfactory outcomes.

Topological Spin Texture of Chiral Edge States in Photonic Two-Dimensional Quantum Walks

Topological insulators host topology-linked boundary states, whose spin and charge degrees of freedom could be exploited to design topological devices with enhanced functionality. We experimentally observe that dissipationless chiral edge states in a spin-orbit coupled anomalous Floquet topological phase exhibit topological spin texture on boundaries, realized via a two-dimensional quantum walk. Our experiment shows that, for a walker traveling around a closed loop along the boundary in real space, its spin evolves and winds through a great circle on the Bloch sphere, which implies that edge-spin texture has nontrivial winding. This topological spin winding is protected by a chiral-like symmetry emerging for the low-energy Hamiltonian. Our experiment confirms that two-dimensional anomalous Floquet topological systems exhibit topological spin texture on the boundary, which could inspire novel topology-based spintronic phenomena and devices.

[Research progress on the characteristics of artemisia pollen allergens and related pollinosis]

In recent years, the morbidity of pollinosis has been increasing year by year. Anemophilous flower pollen is the most important allergen causing pollinosis, among which artemisia pollen is one of the most common airborne allergens. In this paper, based on the immune biology characteristics of major sensitization protein components of artemisia pollen, and from the perspective of immunology, the main pathogenic mechanism of action and clinical characteristics of artemisia pollen are elaborated to provide the reference basis for the development of accurate and effective artemisia pollen disease prevention and control strategy, hoping to provide patients with scientific and effective prevention and control suggestions.

[Perioperative management and complication control of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy in children with syndromic craniosynostosis]

Objective: To summarize the preliminary efficacy, perioperative management and complications of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and midface distraction in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis by retrospective analysis, and to provide clinical experience for reference. Methods: From October 2017 to January 2020, 20 patients with syndromic craniosynostosis underwent Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and distraction in The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Peking University International Hospital, including 11 males and 9 females, were involved. The median age was 7 years (1.5 to 15 years). Preoperative risk prevention plan was put forward by multidisciplinary evaluation, and preoperative intervention was carried out. The diagnostic data of SNA, airway volume, polysomnography (PSG), ophthalmology and occlusal relationship were obtained through specialized examination, and osteotomy and distraction surgical plan was formulated through virtual surgical planning. CT was taken 1 week and 3, 6, 12 months after operation, PSG and eye protrudence examination were conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effect, syndrome type, multiple disciplinary treatment (MDT) intervention, occurrence and outcome of complications were summarized. Results: There were 15 cases of Crouzon syndrome and 5 cases of Pfeiffer syndrome. Sleep apnea was the first complaint in 18 cases and exophthalmia in 2 cases. Preoperative interventional therapy included 4 cases of adenoid surgery, 2 cases of continuous positive airway pressure and 2 cases of maxillary expansion. The most common surgical complications were accidental fracture (14/20 cases, 70%), cerebrospinal fluid fistula (2 cases), internal carotid cavernous sinus fistula (1 case), postoperative hyponatraemia (5 cases), crying syndrome (2 cases), wound infection (2 cases), trichiasis of lower eyelid (4 cases), and nasal malformation (1 case). Three cases underwent unplanned secondary surgery. SNA, airway volume and mean percutaneous arterial oxygen saturation (SpO₂) six months after operation were significantly higher than those before operation (F=10.09, P=0.001; F=5.13, P<0.001; F=10.78, P=0.001), and the protrusion and apnea hypopnea index were significantly lower than those before surgery (F=6.73, P=0.010; F=18.47, P<0.001). There were no significant differences in SNA, airway volume, mean SpO₂, ophthalmology between 6 months after surgery and 1 year after surgery (P>0.05). Conclusions: Perioperative safety assessment and early intervention of MDT is an effective diagnosis and treatment model of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and distraction for syndromic craniosynosis. The operative complications are mainly local, and systemic complications are controllable.

Self-supported efficient hydrogen evolution catalysts with a core-shell structure designed via phase separation

The development of cost-effective, high-performance and flexible electrocatalysts for hydrogen production is of scientific and technological importance. Catalysts with a core-shell structure for water dissociation have been extensively investigated. However, most of them are nanoparticles and thus their catalytic properties are inevitably limited by the use of binders in practice. Herein, this work reports a physical-metallurgy-based structural design strategy to develop a self-supported and unique nanoporous structure with core-shell-like ligaments, i.e., a Cu core surrounded by a NiO shell, formed on a metallic glass (MG) substrate. These newly developed noble metal-free catalysts exhibit outstanding HER performance; the overpotential reaches 67 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm^-2, accompanied by a low Tafel slope of 40 mV dec^-1 and good durability. More importantly, the current strategy could be readily applied to fabricate other nanoporous metals, which opens a new space for designing advanced catalysts as cost-effective electrode materials.

[Study on the incidence of adult herpes zoster in Yichang city and its association with early-life famine exposure]

Based on Yichang health big data platform, 850 608 patients from September 2018 to September 2019 were included in this study. According to the date of birth, the participants were divided into early childhood famine exposure group, fetal famine exposure group and non-famine exposure group. The incidence of adult herpes zoster (HZ) in Yichang city was analyzed, and the correlation between early life famine exposure and adult HZ was analyzed. In 2019, the crude incidence rate of adult HZ in Yichang was 6.83‰. The crude incidence rate of adult HZ in females (7.26‰) was higher than that in males (6.40‰). Compared with the non-famine exposure group, fetal famine exposure was associated with the incidence of adult HZ (OR=1.21; 95%CI: 1.01-1.45, P=0.041). After stratification by sex, fetal famine exposure was only found to be associated with the onset of adult HZ in females (OR=1.28, 95%CI:1.02-1.61, P=0.034).

Topological holographic quench dynamics in a synthetic frequency dimension

The notion of topological phases extended to dynamical systems stimulates extensive studies, of which the characterization of nonequilibrium topological invariants is a central issue and usually necessitates the information of quantum dynamics in both the time and momentum dimensions. Here, we propose the topological holographic quench dynamics in synthetic dimension, and also show it provides a highly efficient scheme to characterize photonic topological phases. A pseudospin model is constructed with ring resonators in a synthetic lattice formed by frequencies of light, and the quench dynamics is induced by initializing a trivial state, which evolves under a topological Hamiltonian. Our key prediction is that the complete topological information of the Hamiltonian is encoded in quench dynamics solely in the time dimension, and is further mapped to lower-dimensional space, manifesting the holographic features of the dynamics. In particular, two fundamental time scales emerge in the dynamical evolution, with one mimicking the topological band on the momentum dimension and the other characterizing the residue time evolution of the state after the quench. For this, a universal duality between the quench dynamics and the equilibrium topological phase of the spin model is obtained in the time dimension by extracting information from the field evolution dynamics in modulated ring systems in simulations. This work also shows that the photonic synthetic frequency dimension provides an efficient and powerful way to explore the topological nonequilibrium dynamics.

[Prevalence and related factors of CD4+T lymphocytes immune recovery among adult HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture]

Objective: To analyze the longitudinal characteristics of CD4⁺T lymphocytes (CD4) among the adult HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and the related factors. Methods: A retrospective cohort of adult HIV/AIDS starting ART in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture (Dehong) in 2007-2016 was followed up to December 31, 2018. Group-based trajectory models were utilized to identify CD4 subgroups based on immune recovery (whether and when CD4 reached the average level of >500 cells/μl). The demographics and information at ART baseline were described, and the related factors were analyzed with polytomous logistic regression. The SAS 9.4 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 7 605 adults with HIV/AIDS were included, of which the median (P₂₅,P₇₅) age at ART were 36 (30,43) years old, 61.0% were male, 42.5% were Han nationality, and 60.8% with the education of primary school or below. The follow-up duration M (P₂₅, P₇₅) was 6.1 (4.1,8.1) years. HIV/AIDS in Dehong showed four CD4 trajectory subgroups from low to high: below the average level, primary recovery to a normal level, full recovery to a moderate level, and normal steady level, accounting for 34.4%, 39.8%, 20.6%, and 5.2%, respectively. When compared with corresponding control groups, age <35 years at ART, female, education of middle school or above, sexual transmission, no opportunistic infection, CD4 ≥200 cells/μl, baseline regimen with tenofovir (TDF) and time from HIV diagnosis to ART <1 year were the related factors facilitating the higher CD4 subgroups. Conclusions: The various CD4 immune recoveries of HIV/AIDS were changing patterns after ART. Starting ART with a high CD4 level was beneficial to CD4 recovery to normal level during the follow-up period. Early initiation of ART and exceptional attention to CD4 immune recovery should be encouraged after the ART.

Realization of an ideal Weyl semimetal band in a quantum gas with 3D spin-orbit coupling

Weyl semimetals are three-dimensional (3D) gapless topological phases with Weyl cones in the bulk band. According to lattice theory, Weyl cones must come in pairs, with the minimum number of cones being two. A semimetal with only two Weyl cones is an ideal Weyl semimetal (IWSM). Here we report the experimental realization of an IWSM band by engineering 3D spin-orbit coupling for ultracold atoms. The topological Weyl points are clearly measured via the virtual slicing imaging technique in equilibrium and are further resolved in the quench dynamics. The realization of an IWSM band opens an avenue to investigate various exotic phenomena that are difficult to access in solids.

Perfluorocarbon Protects against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Apoptosis of Endothelial Cells in Pulmonary Microvessels

This study was aimed to explore the effect and mechanisms of action of perfluorocarbon on LPS-induced apoptosis of pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC) isolated from Sprague-Dawley rats. Apoptosis rates were assessed by flow cytometry. Ultrastructural characteristics of PMVEC were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy. The protein expression of cleaved caspase-3 was measured using Western blotting. LPS significantly increased the level of apoptosis, induced the appearance of ultrastructural changes typical of apoptosis, up-regulated the expression of active caspase-3 protein. These effects of LPS were attenuated by co-administration of perfluorocarbon. These results suggest that perfluorocarbon can attenuate LPS-induced apoptosis of PMVEC by inhibiting TLR-4 signaling and caspase-3 activation.

Many-Body Critical Phase: Extended and Nonthermal

The transition between ergodic and many-body localization (MBL) phases lies at the heart of understanding quantum thermalization of many-body systems. Here, we predict a many-body critical (MBC) phase with finite-size scaling analysis in the one-dimensional extended Aubry-André-Harper-Hubbard model, which is different from both the ergodic phase and MBL phase, implying that the quantum system hosts three different fundamental phases in the thermodynamic limit. The level statistics in the MBC phase are well characterized by the so-called critical statistics, and the wave functions exhibit deep multifractal behavior only in the critical region. We further study the half-chain entanglement entropy and thermalization properties and show that the former, in the MBC phase, manifest a volume law scaling, while the many-body states violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. The results are confirmed by the state-of-the-art numerical calculations with system size up to L=22. This work unveils a novel many-body phase which is extended but nonthermal.

[Meta-analysis of the effects of triamcinolone acetonide alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids]

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for treating keloids using meta-analysis. Methods: Databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were retrieved with the search terms of " triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, glucocorticoid, fluorouracil, keloid, scar, TAC, 5-FU, hypertrophic scar " and databases including Chinese Journal Full-Text Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Wanfang Data were retrieved with the search terms of ",, 5-,," in Chinese to obtain the publicly published randomized controlled trials about the effects of TA alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids from the establishment of each database to august 2019. The outcome indexes included effective proportion of treatment, incidence proportion of adverse reactions, and recurrence proportion of keloids. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 14.0 statistical software were used to conduct a meta-analysis of eligible studies. Results: A total of 1 326 patients with keloids were included in 14 studies, including 668 patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group whose keloids were injected with TA and 5-fluorouracil and 658 patients in TA alone group whose keloids were injected with TA alone. A total of 7 articles achieved 1 to 3 points in modified Jadad score, while 7 articles achieved 4 to 7 points in modified Jadad score. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a higher effective proportion of treatment than that of TA alone group (relative risk=1.28, 95% confidence interval=1.16-1.41, P<0.01). Subgroup analysis showed that the quality of the included literature and ethnic factors might be the source of heterogeneity in effective proportion of treatment. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower incidence proportion of adverse reactions than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.44, 95% confidence interval=0.25-0.75, P<0.01). Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower recurrence proportion of keloids than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.25, 95% confidence interval=0.14-0.44, P<0.01). There was no publication bias in incidence proportion of adverse reactions (P>0.05), while the effective proportion of treatment and recurrence proportion of keloids had publication bias (P<0.05). Conclusions: TA combined with 5-fluorouracil is more effective than TA alone for treating keloids, with less incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence.

Emergence of the Unconventional Type-II Nambu-Goldstone Modes with Topological Origin in Bose Superfluids

The Nambu-Goldstone (NG) modes in a nonrelativistic system can be classified into two types from their characteristic features: being of either an odd (type I) or an even (type II) power energy-momentum dispersion. Conventionally, the type-II NG modes may universally arise from spontaneous breaking of noncommutative symmetry pairs. Here, we predict a novel type of quadratically dispersed NG modes that emerges in mixed s and p band Bose superfluids in an optical lattice and, unlike the conventional type-II NG modes, cannot be solely interpreted with the celebrated symmetry-based argument. Instead, we show that the existence of such modes has a profound connection to the topological transition on projective complex order-parameter space. The detection scheme is also proposed. Our Letter reveals a new universal mechanism for emergence of type-II NG modes, which bridges intrinsically the Landau symmetry-breaking and topological theories.

Ideal Weyl semimetal with 3D spin-orbit coupled ultracold quantum gas

There is an immense effort in search for various types of Weyl semimetals, of which the most fundamental phase consists of the minimal number of i.e. two Weyl points, but is hard to engineer in solids. Here we demonstrate how such fundamental Weyl semimetal can be realized in a maneuverable optical Raman lattice, with which the three-dimensional (3D) spin-orbit (SO) coupling is synthesised for ultracold atoms. In addition, a new novel Weyl phase with coexisting Weyl nodal points and nodal ring is also predicted here, and is shown to be protected by nontrivial linking numbers. We further propose feasible techniques to precisely resolve 3D Weyl band topology through 2D equilibrium and dynamical measurements. This work leads to the first realization of the most fundamental Weyl semimetal band and the 3D SO coupling for ultracold quantum gases, which are respectively the significant issues in the condensed matter and ultracold atom physics.

One-Dimensional Quasiperiodic Mosaic Lattice with Exact Mobility Edges

The mobility edges (MEs) in energy that separate extended and localized states are a central concept in understanding the localization physics. In one-dimensional (1D) quasiperiodic systems, while MEs may exist for certain cases, the analytic results that allow for an exact understanding are rare. Here we uncover a class of exactly solvable 1D models with MEs in the spectra, where quasiperiodic on-site potentials are inlaid in the lattice with equally spaced sites. The analytical solutions provide the exact results not only for the MEs, but also for the localization and extended features of all states in the spectra, as derived through computing the Lyapunov exponents from Avila's global theory and also numerically verified by calculating the fractal dimension. We further propose a novel scheme with experimental feasibility to realize our model based on an optical Raman lattice, which paves the way for experimental exploration of the predicted exact ME physics.

Unified Theory to Characterize Floquet Topological Phases by Quench Dynamics

The conventional characterization of periodically driven systems usually necessitates the time-domain information beyond Floquet bands, hence lacking universal and direct schemes of measuring Floquet topological invariants. Here we propose a unified theory, based on quantum quenches, to characterize generic d-dimensional Floquet topological phases in which the topological invariants are constructed with only minimal information of the static Floquet bands. For a d-dimensional phase that is initially static and trivial, we introduce the quench dynamics by suddenly turning on the periodic driving. We show that the quench dynamics exhibits emergent topological patterns in (d-1)-dimensional momentum subspaces where Floquet bands cross, from which the Floquet topological invariants are directly obtained. This result provides a simple and unified characterization in which one can extract the number of conventional and anomalous Floquet boundary modes and identify the topologically protected singularities in the phase bands. These applications are illustrated with one- and two-dimensional models that are readily accessible in cold-atom experiments. Our study opens a new framework for the characterization of Floquet topological phases.

[Clinicopathological features of Caroli disease/Caroli syndrome: an analysis of 21 cases]

Objective: To summarize and compare clinicopathological features of Caroli disease and Caroli syndrome. Methods: A total of 21 patients diagnosed with Caroli disease or Caroli syndrome in Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, from January 2015 to December 2018 were included. Through the clinical manifestations and comparative analysis of the differences between different clinical types, the liver pathological features of these patients were described. Results: Of all patients included, 8 were male and 13 were female, and the medium age was 13.5 year old. The initial symptom was fever in 6 cases (28.6%), gastrointestinal bleeding in 6 cases (28.6%) and hepatosplenomegaly in 9 cases (42.8%). Caroli disease accounted for 6 cases (28.6%) and Caroli syndrome 15 cases (71.4%). The total bilirubin [6.7 (4.7, 15.0) vs 16.0(10.9, 33.0)μmol/L] and direct bilirubin [1.3(0.9,6.4)vs 3.5(2.7, 16.2)μmol/L] were significantly lower in Caroli disease group in comparison to those in Caroli syndrome group(both P<0.05). The hemoglobin [117.0 (106.0, 126.2) vs 85.0 (74.0, 103.0) g/L] and platelet count [286.0 (149.8, 467.5)×10(9)/L vs 76.1(55.0,123.0)×10(9)/L] in Caroli disease group were significantly higher than those in Caroli syndrome group (both P<0.05). There were 10 patients (47.6%) who underwent liver transplantation. Child-Pugh-Turcotte Score (liver function reserve) were significantly higher than that in the non-liver transplantation group[8.0(8.0, 10.2)vs 5.0 (5.0, 6.0), P<0.05]. Conclusions: Early symptoms of Caroli disease/Caroli syndrome are atypical and prone to misdiagnosis and misdiagnosis. The diagnosis is usually based on pathology and may be supplemented by laboratory examination and imaging analysis.

Realization and Detection of Nonergodic Critical Phases in an Optical Raman Lattice

The critical phases, being delocalized but nonergodic, are fundamental phases different from both the many-body localization and ergodic extended quantum phases, and have so far not been realized in experiment. Here we propose an incommensurate topological insulating model of AIII symmetry class to realize such critical phases through an optical Raman lattice scheme, which possesses a one-dimensional (1D) spin-orbit coupling and an incommensurate Zeeman potential. We show the existence of both noninteracting and many-body critical phases, which can coexist with the topological phase, and show that the critical-localization transition coincides with the topological phase boundary in noninteracting regime. The dynamical detection of the critical phases is proposed and studied in detail based on the available experimental techniques. Finally, we demonstrate how the proposed critical phases can be achieved within the current ultracold atom experiments. This work paves the way to observe the novel critical phases.

Ultrahigh-strength and ductile superlattice alloys with nanoscale disordered interfaces

Alloys that have high strengths at high temperatures are crucial for a variety of important industries including aerospace. Alloys with ordered superlattice structures are attractive for this purpose but generally suffer from poor ductility and rapid grain coarsening. We discovered that nanoscale disordered interfaces can effectively overcome these problems. Interfacial disordering is driven by multielement cosegregation that creates a distinctive nanolayer between adjacent micrometer-scale superlattice grains. This nanolayer acts as a sustainable ductilizing source, which prevents brittle intergranular fractures by enhancing dislocation mobilities. Our superlattice materials have ultrahigh strengths of 1.6 gigapascals with tensile ductilities of 25% at ambient temperature. Simultaneously, we achieved negligible grain coarsening with exceptional softening resistance at elevated temperatures. Designing similar nanolayers may open a pathway for further optimization of alloy properties.

Quantum Simulation for Three-Dimensional Chiral Topological Insulator

Quantum simulation, as a state-of-the-art technique, provides a powerful way to explore topological quantum phases beyond natural limits. Nevertheless, it is usually hard to simulate both the bulk and surface topological physics at the same time to reveal their correspondence. Here we build up a quantum simulator using nitrogen-vacancy center to investigate a three-dimensional (3D) chiral topological insulator, and demonstrate the study of both the bulk and surface topological physics by quantum quenches. First, a dynamical bulk-surface correspondence in momentum space is observed, showing that the bulk topology of the 3D phase uniquely corresponds to the nontrivial quench dynamics emerging on 2D momentum hypersurfaces called band inversion surfaces (BISs). This is the momentum-space counterpart of the bulk-boundary correspondence in real space. Further, the symmetry protection of the 3D chiral phase is uncovered by measuring dynamical spin textures on BISs, which exhibit perfect (broken) topology when the chiral symmetry is preserved (broken). Finally, we measure the topological charges to characterize directly the bulk topology and identify an emergent dynamical topological transition when varying the quenches from deep to shallow regimes. This work demonstrates how a full study of topological phases can be achieved in quantum simulators.

Relationship between PI3K/mTOR/RhoA pathway-regulated cytoskeletal rearrangements and phagocytic capacity of macrophages

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between PI3K/mTOR/RhoA signaling regulated cytoskeletal rearrangements and phagocytic capacity of macrophages. RAW264.7 macrophages were divided into four groups; blank control, negative control, PI3K-RNAi, and mTOR-RNAi. The cytoskeletal changes in the macrophages were observed. Furthermore, the phagocytic capacity of macrophages against Escherichia coli is reported as mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) and percent phagocytosis. Transfection yielded 82.1 and 81.5% gene-silencing efficiencies against PI3K and mTOR, respectively. The PI3K-RNAi group had lower mRNA and protein expression levels of PI3K, mTOR, and RhoA than the blank and negative control groups (Р<0.01). The mTOR-RNAi group had lower mRNA and protein levels of mTOR and RhoA than the blank and the negative control groups (Р<0.01). Macrophages in the PI3K-RNAi group exhibited stiff and inflexible morphology with short, disorganized filopodia and reduced number of stress fibers. Macrophages in the mTOR-RNAi group displayed pronounced cellular deformations with long, dense filopodia and an increased number of stress fibers. The PI3K-RNAi group exhibited lower MFI and percent phagocytosis than blank and negative control groups, whereas the mTOR-RNAi group displayed higher MFI and percent phagocytosis than the blank and negative controls (Р<0.01). Before and after transfection, the mRNA and protein levels of PI3K were both positively correlated with mTOR and RhoA (Р<0.05), but the mRNA and protein levels of mTOR were negatively correlated with those of RhoA (Р<0.05). Changes in the phagocytic capacity of macrophages were associated with cytoskeletal rearrangements and were regulated by the PI3K/mTOR/RhoA signaling pathway.

[Efficacy of minimally invasive pulmonary surfactant administration in preterm infants with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome: a multicenter clinical trial]

Objective: To explore the feasibility and safety of minimally invasive surfactant administration (MISA) in preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS). Methods: In this multicenter prospective randomized controlled trial, 92 preterm infants with gestation age ≤30 weeks and diagnosed with NRDS were enrolled in 8 level Ⅲ neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region from 1(st) July 2017 to 31(st) December 2018. They were randomly assigned to minimally invasive surfactant administration (MISA) group or endotracheal intubation surfactant administration (EISA) group according to random number generated by computer. Infants in both groups received calf pulmonary surfactant preparation at a dose of 70-100 mg/kg. The data of demography, perinatal situation, medication administration, complications, clinical outcomes in the two groups were compared with Chi-square test, Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U test or Fisher's exact test. Results: Among the 92 preterm infants, 53 were males, 39 were females; 47 were in the MISA group (25 males), and 45 were in the EISA group (28 males). The gestational age and birth weight were (29.5±1.2) weeks and (1 271±242) g in all patients, (29.5±1.4) weeks and (1 285±256) g in the MISA group, and (29.6±0.9) weeks and (1 255±227) g in the EISA group. The duration of surfactant infusion and the length of whole procedure in the MISA group were significantly longer than that in the EISA group (60 (18, 270) s vs. 50 (30, 60) s, Z=3.009, P=0.003; 90 (60, 300) s vs. 60 (44, 270) s, Z=3.365, P=0.001). For the outcomes, the incidence of hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) were lower in the MISA group than in the EISA group (36% (17/47) vs. 67% (30/45), χ(2)=8.556, P=0.003; 26% (12/47) vs. 47% (21/45), χ(2)=4.464, P=0.035). Conclusions: Minimally invasive surfactant administration is applicable in preterm infants ≤30 weeks gestational age with NRDS. Although the length of whole procedure is longer than route endotracheal administration, the benefit of decreasing the incidences of hsPDA and BPD outweighs this demerit.

Localization Driven Superradiant Instability

The prominent Dicke superradiant phase arises from coupling an ensemble of atoms to a cavity optical field when an external optical pumping exceeds a threshold strength. Here we report a prediction of the superradiant instability driven by Anderson localization, realized with a hybrid system of the Dicke and Aubry-André (DAA) model for bosons trapped in a one-dimensional (1D) quasiperiodic optical lattice and coupled to a cavity. Our central finding is that for bosons condensed in a localized phase given by the DAA model, the resonant superradiant scattering is induced, for which the critical optical pumping of the superradiant phase transition approaches zero, giving an instability driven by the Anderson localization. The superradiant phase for the DAA model with or without a mobility edge is investigated, showing that the localization driven superradiant instability is in sharp contrast to the superradiance as widely observed for a Bose-Einstein condensate in extended states, and should be insensitive to the temperature of the system. This study unveils a novel effect of localization on the Dicke superradiance, and is well accessible based on the current experiments.

Surface superconductivity in the type II Weyl semimetal TaIrTe4

The search for unconventional superconductivity in Weyl semimetal materials is currently an exciting pursuit, since such superconducting phases could potentially be topologically non-trivial and host exotic Majorana modes. The layered material TaIrTe4 is a newly predicted time-reversal invariant type II Weyl semimetal with the minimum number of Weyl points. Here, we report the discovery of surface superconductivity in Weyl semimetal TaIrTe4. Our scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) visualizes Fermi arc surface states of TaIrTe4 that are consistent with the previous angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy results. By a systematic study based on STS at ultralow temperature, we observe uniform superconducting gaps on the sample surface. The superconductivity is further confirmed by electrical transport measurements at ultralow temperature, with an onset transition temperature (T c) up to 1.54 K being observed. The normalized upper critical field h*(T/T c) behavior and the stability of the superconductivity against the ferromagnet indicate that the discovered superconductivity is unconventional with the p-wave pairing. The systematic STS, and thickness- and angular-dependent transport measurements reveal that the detected superconductivity is quasi-1D and occurs in the surface states. The discovery of the surface superconductivity in TaIrTe4 provides a new novel platform to explore topological superconductivity and Majorana modes.

Ferromagnetic tip induced unconventional superconductivity in Weyl semimetal

The metallic tip-induced superconductivity in normal Weyl semimetal offers a promising platform to study topological superconductivity, which is currently a research focus in condensed matter physics. Here we experimentally uncover that unconventional superconductivity can be induced by hard point contact (PC) method of ferromagnetic tips in TaAs single crystals. The magneto-transport measurements of the ferromagnetic tip-induced superconducting (FTISC) states exhibit the quantum oscillations, which reveal that the superconductivity is induced in the topologically nontrivial Fermi surface of the Weyl semimetal, and show compatibility of ferromagnetism and induced superconductivity. We further measure the point contact spectra (PCS) of tunneling transport for FTISC states which are potentially of nontrivial topology. Considering that the magnetic Weyl semimetal with novel superconductivity is hard to realize in experiment, our results show a new route to investigate the unconventional superconductivity by combining the topological semimetal with ferromagnetism through hard PC method.

[The effect of fine particles on the phagocytosis of alveolar macrophages potentially by Arp2/3 complex in a mouse model of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease]

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on the phagocytosis of alveolar macrophages (AM) in mice with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) through actin-related protein (Arp) 2/3 complex. Methods: Forty mice were divided into healthy control(A) group, healthy PM2.5 (B) group, COPD(C) group, and COPD PM2.5(D) group according to the random number table method. A mouse model of COPD was established by cigarette smoke exposure method. PM2.5 (662 μg/m(3)) model was established by continuously inhalation for 90 days in healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group. Flow cytometry was used to detect the ability of AM to phagocytose fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled E.coli (FITC-E.coli), expressed as mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) and percentage of phagocytic positive cells (phagocytosis percentage); Western blotting was used to detect AM Arp2 and F-actin content, and laser confocal microscopy for AM Arp2 and F-actin and phagocytic FITC-E.coli average optical density and colocalization of Arp2 and F-actin, while scanning electron microscopy was used to observes the morphology of AM after phagocytizing FITC-E.coli. Results: AM phagocytosis: MFI and phagocytosis percentage in the COPD group [4 656±251, (31.9±1.7)%] were lower than the healthy control group [8 657±247, (65.7±1.9)%] (both P<0.01); and healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group [7 653±228, (47.9±1.6)% and 3 660±237, (19.2±1.2)%] were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in the COPD group was more pronounced. AM Arp2, F-actin content: the COPD group (0.51±0.02, 0.46±0.03) were lower than the healthy control group (0.81±0.04, 0.71±0.04, both P<0.01); the healthy PM2.5 group and the COPD PM2.5 group [(0.64±0.03, 0.56±0.04) and (0.29±0.02, 0.26±0.02)] were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in COPD group was more significant. Arp2, F-actin, and phagocytic FITC-E.coli mean optical density values: the COPD group (33.0±2.3, 62.0±0.7, 41.0±0.4) were lower than the healthy control group (141.0±4.2, 145.0±2.9, 189.0±2.6, both P<0.01); the healthy PM2.5 group and the COPD PM2.5 group (127.0±2.8, 124.0±0.7, 154.0±0.9, and 24.0±2.4, 37.0±0.4, 29.0±0.8) were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in the COPD group was more significant. Colocalization of AM Arp2 and F-actin: Montessori colocalization coefficient (MOC) (0.38±0.03) in the COPD group was lower than the healthy control group (0.88±0.03, P<0.01); healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group [(0.58±0.03) and (0.14±0.02)] were lower than the respective control groups (both P<0.01), and the decrease in COPD group was more significant. Morphology of AM phagocytosis of FITC-E.coli: AM in the healthy control group was obviously deformed, and the surface of the cell membrane was slightly wrinkled and high, and the free edge of the micro-pleated fold had a long and dense filamentous pseudopodia extension. The changes of morphology of AM in the COPD group was not obvious, the micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were rare, and the filopodia poorly extended or even absent. The AM form of the healthy PM2.5 group changed slightly, mostly irregular circular or elliptical. The micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were less and flat, and the filopodia protrudes short and less; the AM form of the COPD PM2.5 group was stiff, and the micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were few and flat, no obvious filopodia or protrusions. Correlation analysis: After basal state and PM2.5 intervention, AM Arp2, F-actin content and MOC values of Arp2 and F-actin were positively correlated with MFI. Conclusions: The phagocytic function of AM in COPD mice was low, which was related to the abnormal rearrangement of cytoskeleton involved in Arp2/3 complex and F-actin. It was speculated that PM2.5 might inhibit Arp2/3 complex and F-actin. The cytoskeletal rearrangement of proteins was involved in the aggravation of AM phagocytosis in mice with COPD.

[Comparison of clinical efficacy between first-generation and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors based regimen in the treatment of patients with BCR-ABL positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia]

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy and prognostic factors of first-generation and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) based regimen in the treatment of patients with BCR-ABL positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) . Methods: Retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of 89 patients with BCR-ABL positive ALL from April 2012 to June 2018 in our hospital, the clinical efficacy of first-generation and second-generation TKI was compared. Results: 60 patients were classified into the first-generation TKI (imatinib) group, and 29 patients were in the second-generation TKI (dasatinib) group. There were no significant differences in gender, age, WBC, hemoglobin concentration, PLT, chromosomal karyotype, the types of fusion genes, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and TKI initiation time between the two groups. The first-generation and second-generation TKI groups, for which the complete remission (CR) rate at the fourth week of induction therapy was 83.3% and 89.7% (P=0.637) , respectively, and the complete molecular remission (CMR) was 48.3%and 58.6% (P=0.363) , respectively, the difference was not statistically significant. The 2-year overall survival (OS) rate of first-generation and second-generation TKI group was 34.9% and 64.0% (χ(2)=4.743, P=0.029) , the 2-year relapse free survival (RFS) rate was 17.2% and 55.0% (χ(2)=8.801, P=0.003) , respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that complete molecular remission (HR=0.281, 95%CI 0.151-0.523, P<0.001) was independent favorable prognostic factor for overall survival (OS) , complete molecular remission (HR=0.209, 95%CI 0.112-0.390, P<0.001) and second-generation TKI (HR=0.318, 95%CI 0.158-0.641, P=0.001) were independent favorable prognostic factors for RFS. Conclusion: For TKI-based regimen of BCR-ABL positive ALL, second-generation TKI is superior to first-generation TKI in OS and RFS time.

Observing Topological Charges and Dynamical Bulk-Surface Correspondence with Ultracold Atoms

Quantum dynamics induced in quenching a d-dimensional topological phase across a phase transition may exhibit a nontrivial dynamical topological pattern on the (d-1)D momentum subspace, called band inversion surfaces (BISs), which have a one-to-one correspondence to the bulk topology of the postquench phase. Here we report the experimental observation of such dynamical bulk-surface correspondence through measuring the topological charges in a 2D quantum anomalous Hall model realized in an optical Raman lattice. The system can be quenched with respect to every spin axis by suddenly varying the two-photon detuning or phases of the Raman couplings, in which the topological charges and BISs are measured dynamically by the time-averaged spin textures. We observe that the total charges in the region enclosed by BISs define a dynamical topological invariant, which equals the Chern number of the postquench band and also characterizes the topological pattern of a dynamical field emerging on the BISs, rendering the dynamical bulk-surface correspondence. This study opens a new avenue to explore topological phases dynamically.

[Accuracy analysis of robotic assistant needle placement for trigeminal gasserian ganglion]

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the accuracy and feasibility of a custom robot system guided by optical navigation for needle puncture on trigeminal gasserian ganglion.

METHODS

A synthetic human skull model was used, with plasticine placed around the skull base to imitate the human soft tissue. Cone beam CT (CBCT) scanning was performed before the operation. With image data transferred to the graphical user interface of the computer workstation, the oval foramen was selected as the target and the "skin entry point" was also determined by the surgeon on the surgical planning software. Thus the needle trajectory was eventually planned. The skull model was fixed firmly to the trial table with a head clamp and relative size of the trial table was the same as a standard operating table. Following point-based registration, the data were sent to the robot control unit. Only after the surgeon's confirmation, the needle was automatically inserted into the intended target by the robot guided by optical navigation. When the procedure was completed, the instantaneous data of the needle tip orientation acquired by navigation system was sent back to the computer workstation for accuracy verification by calculating the geometric distance between the needle tip and the planning target after matrix transformation. Subsequently, after the needle had been released, CBCT scanning was also acquired to make image fusion of the preoperative skull and the postoperative skull. The data of the needle tip orientation was acquired on the postoperative image and the accuracy was re-verified by calculating the geometric distance between the needle tip and the planning target after matrix transformation. IBM SPSS Statistics 20 was used for statistical analysis and the paired t-test was used to compare the differences in the accuracy measured by the intraoperative navigation and postoperative image fusion.

RESULTS

All 20 interventions were successfully located in oval foramen at the first needle insertion. The mean deviation of the needle tip was (0.56±0.07) mm (measured by the navigation system) and (1.49±0.14) mm (measured by the image fusion), respectively (P<0.001).

CONCLUSION

The experimental results show the robot system is efficient and reliable. The navigation accuracy is one of the most significant factors in robotic procedures.

[LncRNA HULC promots HCC growth by downregulating miR-29]

Objective: To explore the effects of lncRNA HULC on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) growth by down-regulating miR-29. Methods: The expression levels of HULC and miR-29 in HCC tissues and cells were detected by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), and the correlation analysis was performed. After HCC cells were transfected with HULC overexpressed plasmid or siRNA, the expressions of miR-29 and its target gene SETDB1 were determinate by RT-qPCR. According to the bioinformatic prediction of the miR-29 binding site in the HULC sequence, the report gene plasmids were constructed. The HCC cells were co-transfected with miR-29 mimics or miR-29 inhibitor, and the HULC targeted regulation of miR-29 was verified by dual luciferase reporter assay. The effect of miR-29 on the HULC-mediated proliferation in HCC cells was detected by cell count kit 8 (CCK-8) experiment. Expression of tumor proliferation antigen Ki-67 was detected by RT-qPCR.The Hep3B cells were inoculated in mice and miR-29 mimics and miR-29 negative control (NC) further injected into the lesions. The tumor volume was observed, and the expressions of tumor proliferation antigen ki-67 in tumor tissues were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Results: The expression of HULC was significantly up-regulated while the expression of miR-29 was significantly down-regulated in HCC tissues and cells (P<0.01). The level of HULC was negatively correlated with miR-29 in tumor tissues (r=-0.754, P<0.01) and HCC cells (r=-0.865, P<0.05). The in vitro experiments showed that, compared with the blank control group, the expression of miR-29 in HULC overexpressed Huh7 cells was significantly reduced, while the mRNA level of miR-29 target gene SETDB1 was increased (P<0.01). The expression of miR-29 was significantly increased in HULC deleted Hep3B cells, while the mRNA expression of SETDB1 was decreased (P<0.01). Double luciferase reporter gene assay showed that miR-29 mimics significantly inhibited the luciferase activity of Hep3B cells transfected with HULC wide type (psi-HULC-WT) plasmid but had no effect on Hep3B cells transfected with mutant plasmid (psi-HULC-Mut). However, the miR-29 inhibitor antagonized the inhibitory effect of miR-29 mimics on luciferase activity of psi-HULC-WT (P<0.01). Cell proliferation experiments showed that, compared with the control group, the proliferation ability of miR-29 mimics overexpressed Huh7 cells was significantly reduced.After 24, 48 and 72 hours of treatment, the proliferation rates of Huh7 cells in the HULC overexpressed group were (43.87±3.82)%, (83.45±7.46)% and (123.34±8.67)%, respectively, significantly higher than (13.45±1.77)%, (23.54±1.37)% and (38.21±2.09)% of control group (P<0.05). After treatment for 48 and 72 hours, the proliferation rates of miR-29 mimics transfected Huh7 cells were (57.10±1.94)% and (73.76±3.46)%, respectively, significantly lower than (83.45±7.46)% and (123.34±8.67)% of control group (P<0.05). After treatment for 48 and 72 hours, the proliferation rates of Huh7 cells transfected with miR-29 mimics and miR-29 inhibitor group were (76.45±3.24)% and (89.37±4.37)%, respectively, significant higher than (57.10%±1.94)% and (73.76±3.46)% of the control group (P<0.05). After 48 h transfection, the expression of Ki-67 in Huh7 transfected with miR-29 mimics was significantly inhibited compared with the control group (P<0.01). However, the expression of Ki-67 mRNA was increased in Huh7 cells transfected with miR-29 inhibitor (P<0.01). The results of in vivo experiments showed that the tumor volumes of the control group, miR-29 mimics group and miR-29 mimics + miR-29 inhibitors group were (504.0±19.6) mm(3), (310.0±24.3) mm(3) and (483.7±21.2) mm(3), respectively. Injection of miR-29 mimics reduced while miR-29 inhibitor promoted tumorigenesis ability of Huh7 in nude mice (P<0.01). The immunohistochemical staining showed that the average optical density values of Ki-67 protein in tumor tissues of the control group, miR-29 mimics group and miR-29 analogue+ miR-29 inhibitor group were 0.65±0.08, 0.36±0.07 and 0.56±0.06, respectively. The expression level of Ki-67 protein in miR-29 mimics group was significantly reduced (P<0.01) while increased in the miR-29 mimics+ miR-29 inhibitor group (P<0.01). Conclusion: LncRNA HULC promotes HCC growth by down-regulating miR-29.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the radicine pond snail Radix plicatula (Gastropoda: Lymnaeidae)

Radix plicatula is broadly distributed in China, as well as Russia. It is one of the intermediate hosts of Fasciola species which leads to the spread of fascioliasis. Here, we first described the complete mitochondrial genome of R. plicatula. The mitogenome is 13,751 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The contents of each base are 30.7% A, 39.6% T, 15.7% G, and 13.9% C. The sequence is AT rich (70.3%). Mitochondrial phylogenomic analysis showed that R. plicatula is close to R. auricularia.

USF1 gene polymorphisms may associate with the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy based on paclitaxel and prognosis in the treatment of ovarian cancer

This study was supposed to investigate the correlation between the functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs2516839 and rs3737787) in USF1 gene and the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and prognosis in the treatment of ovarian cancer (OC). In total 100 OC patients were selected and divided into the sensitive group and the resistantgroup according to the tumor response to paclitaxel-based chemotherapy after surgery, and the incidence of observed and recorded toxic reaction. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was applied to test the polymorphisms of rs2516839 and rs3737787 in USF1 gene after extraction of DNA. The correlation between USF1 gene polymorphisms and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy resistance was analyzed using Logistic regression analysis. Stratified analysis was used to test the incidence of toxic reaction in OC patients. Cox proportional hazard model was adapted to make a multiple-factor survival analysis. Significant differences exhibited in the genotype and the allele frequencies of rs2516839 between the sensitive and resistant groups, which showed no obvious difference in the genotype and allele frequencies of rs3737787. OC patients carrying the GA+AA genotype had higher incidence of serious toxic reaction than those carrying the GG genotype. Physical status score, tumor type, maximum tumor diameter and rs2516839 were the independent risk factors for the prognosis of OC patients. Taken together, our results suggest that the rs2516839 polymorphism in USF1 gene may associate with the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and prognosis in the treatment of OC.
