Abstract
Hyponatremia is the prevalent electrolyte imbalance in cancer patients, and it is associated with a worse outcome. Notably, emerging clinical evidence suggests that hyponatremia adversely influences the response to anticancer treatments. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how reduced extracellular [Na+] affects the responsiveness of different cancer cell lines (from human colon adenocarcinoma, neuroblastoma, and small cell lung cancer) to cisplatin and the underlying potential mechanisms. Cisplatin dose-response curves revealed higher IC50 in low [Na+] than normal [Na+]. Accordingly, cisplatin treatment was less effective in counteracting the proliferation and migration of tumor cells when cultured in low [Na+], as demonstrated by colony formation and invasion assays. In addition, the expression analysis of proteins involved in autophagosome-lysosome formation and the visualization of lysosomal areas by electron microscopy revealed that one of the main mechanisms involved in chemoresistance to cisplatin is the promotion of autophagy. In conclusion, our data first demonstrate that the antitumoral effect of cisplatin is markedly reduced in low [Na+] and that autophagy is an important mechanism of drug escape. This study indicates the role of hyponatremia in cisplatin chemoresistance and reinforces the recommendation to correct this electrolyte alteration in cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although serum sodium concentration, particularly hyponatremia, has been shown to be a prognostic marker of survival in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), the impact of normal sodium levels has not been investigated. Herein, we investigate the influence of normonatremia in mRCC patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). MATERIALS AND METHODS For this retrospective study, the clinical and biochemical data of patients treated with first-line TKIs for mRCC were available from seven Italian cancer centers. We collected natremia levels at baseline and first evaluation after treatment excluding patients with sodium levels outside the normal range (<135 or >145 mEq/L). The remaining patients were subdivided into two groups according to the median sodium value: natremia patients with <140 mEq/L (n = 132) and baseline natremia patients with ≥140 mEq/L (n = 185). Subsequently, we analyzed the impact of sodium levels on response rate (RR), disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). PFS and OS were estimated through the Kaplan-Meier method, and differences between groups were examined by the log-rank test. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied to evaluate the prognostic factors for PFS and OS. RESULTS Of the 368 patients, 317 were included in the analysis, 73.1% were men, and the median age was 67 years (range 36-89). When comparing patients with baseline natremia ≥140 mEq/L (n = 185) to patients with natremia <140 mEq/L (n = 132), the PFS was 15 vs. 10 months (p < 0.01) and the OS was 63 vs. 36 months, respectively (p = 0.02). On the first evaluation, patients with serum sodium ≥140 mEq/L had longer PFS (15 vs. 10 months, p < 0.01) and OS (70 vs. 32 months, p < 0.01) than patients with levels <140 mEq/L. Moreover, clinical outcomes showed a significant improvement in patients with natremia ≥140 mEq/L compared with patients with levels <140 mEq/L both at baseline and first evaluation: PFS was 19 vs. 11 months (p < 0.01) and OS was 70 vs. 36 months (p < 0.01), respectively. CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the impact of normonatremia in mRCC. We found that serum sodium levels <140 mEq/L at baseline and first assessment are independently associated with worse PFS and OS in mRCC patients treated with TKIs in the first-line setting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prognostic models for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) include select laboratory values. These models have important limitations, including reliance on a limited array of laboratory tests, and use of dichotomous ("high-low") cutoffs. We applied a Laboratory-Wide Association Study (LWAS) framework to systematically evaluate common clinical laboratory results associated with survival for patients diagnosed with mRCC. METHODS We used laboratory data for 3,385 patients diagnosed with mRCC from 2002 to 2017. We developed a LWAS framework, to examine the association with 53 common clinical laboratory tests results (641,712 measurements) and overall survival. We employed false-discovery rate to test the association of multiple laboratory tests with survival, and validated these results using 3 separate cohorts to generate a standardized hazard ratio (sHR), reported for a 1 standard deviation unit change in each laboratory test. RESULTS The LWAS approach confirmed the association of laboratory values currently used in prognostic models with survival, including calcium (HR 1.35, 95%CI 1.24-1.48), leukocyte count (HR 1.40, 95%CI 1.30-1.51), platelet count (HR 1.36, 95%CI 1.27-1.51), and hemoglobin (HR 0.79, 95%CI 0.72-0.86). Use of these tests as continuous variables improved model performance. LWAS also identified acute phase reactants associated with survival not typically included in prognostic models, including serum albumin (HR 0.66, 95%CI 0.61-0.72), ferritin (HR 1.25, 95%CI 1.08-1.45), alkaline phosphatase (HR 1.31, 95%CI 1.23-1.40), and C-reactive protein (HR 1.70, 95%CI 1.14-2.53). CONCLUSIONS Routinely measured laboratory tests can refine current prognostic models, facilitate comparisons across clinical trial cohorts, and match patients with specific systemic therapies.

Abstract
Purpose To analyze the effect of preoperative serum sodium and hemoglobin on oncologic outcomes in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) based on a multi-center cohort from China and the United States (U.S.). Methods We retrospectively reviewed the records of 775 patients with UTUC treated surgically at tertiary care medical facilities in China or the US from 1998 to 2015. We analyzed associations of preoperative serum sodium and hemoglobin with clinicopathological characteristics, overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and intravesical recurrence free survival (IVRFS). Results The US patients had comparatively lower serum sodium and similar hemoglobin at baseline. Preoperative low serum sodium value was associated with tumor multifocality, lymph node metastasis (LNM) and lymphovascular invasion (LVI); preoperative anemia was associated with advanced age, tumor multifocality, high tumor grade and LVI. Preoperative low serum sodium was an independent predictor of worse OS in the entire cohort; preoperative anemia was an independent predictor of worse OS and CSS in the US cohort alone, Chinese cohort alone and the combined cohort. We developed a predictive nomogram for OS which exhibited better prognostic value when it included the values of sodium and anemia, and successfully validated it in different cohorts. Conclusion Preoperative low serum sodium and anemia could be informative in predicting worse pathologic and survival outcomes in different UTUC patient ethnic groups.

Abstract
Hyponatremia has been shown to be associated with prognosis in various cancers, but its role in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is largely unidentified. We created an international multiregional cohort of UTUC, consisting of 524 and 213 patients from Taiwan and the U.S., to validate the significance of hyponatremia. Clinicopathologic characteristics were compared according to the presence of hyponatremia. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to investigate the association of hyponatremia with disease progression and survival. The impact of hyponatremia in patients from distinct regions was also analyzed. Hyponatremia was found in 143 (19.4%) patients. Hyponatremic patients had significantly worse Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status (p = 0.00001) and higher pT stage (p = 0.002). In multivariate analysis, hyponatremia was an independent prognostic factor for progression (HR 1.585, 95% CI 1.115-2.253, p = 0.010), cancer-specific death (HR 2.225, 95% CI 1.457-3.397, p = 0.0002), and overall mortality (HR 1.819, 95% CI 1.299-2.545, p = 0.0005). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed the consistent adverse effect of hyponatremia on all outcomes in patients from Taiwan and the U.S. (all p < 0.05). Hyponatremia is commonly accessible and can serve as a negative marker for both the general health condition and disease severity of UTUC patients. A similar implication of hyponatremia in progression and survival despite patients' region of presentation suggests its general applicability across different ethnicities.

Abstract
Background: Elevated neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and hyponatremia each predict poor prognosis in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Since no previous studies have looked at the combined effect of these two prognostic markers, we examined how NLR and hyponatremia combined associates with mortality and hypothesized that elevated NLR and hyponatremia at RCC diagnosis and at RCC recurrence indicate poorer prognosis.Material and methods: Using Danish medical registries 1999-2015, we included 970 patients from two regions with incident RCC and a measurement of NLR and sodium. NLR was categorized as ≤3.0 and >3.0 and sodium as < lower limit of normal (LLN) and ≥ LLN. Outcomes were survival after RCC diagnosis and first recurrence, respectively. We estimated absolute survival and hazard ratios (HR) using multivariate Cox regression.Results: At RCC diagnosis, 559 (57.6%) had NLR >3.0 and 240 (24.7%) had hyponatremia, the 5 year-survival rate was 35.2% in NLR > 3.0 vs. 69.2% in NLR ≤3.0, adjusted HR 1.8 (95% confidence intervals (CI), 1.4; 2.2). In patients with NLR >3.0 and concomitant hyponatremia vs. NLR ≤3.0 and normal sodium the 5-year survival rate was 21.7% vs. 73.2%, adjusted HR 2.8 (95% CI, 2.1; 3.8). At RCC recurrence, patients with NLR >3.0 and hyponatremia similarly had poorest survival, adjusted HR 3.6 (95% CI, 1.0; 12.8).Conclusion: Elevated NLR alone and in combination with hyponatremia at time of initial RCC diagnosis and at time of RCC recurrence are associated with poor prognosis. Combining these two prognostic markers yield a stronger association than NLR considered alone. This may impact prognostic prediction and its related therapeutic strategy.

Abstract
In recent years, the induction of novel agents, including molecular-targeted agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors, have dramatically changed therapeutic options and their outcomes for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Several prognostic models based on the data of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with targeted agents or cytokine therapy have been useful in real clinical practice. Serum or peripheral blood markers related to inflammatory response have been reported to be associated with their prognosis or therapeutic efficacy. In addition to them, investigation for novel predictive factors that represent the efficacy of agents, the risk of adverse events and the prognosis are required for the advance of therapeutic strategies. The present review discusses the conventional prognostic models and clinical factors, and recent advances of the identification of some of the most promising molecules as novel biomarkers for metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sunitinib is widely prescribed as first-line therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. To reduce the ratio of severe adverse events and improve the relative dose intensity, we prospectively tried our own alternative medication schedule, which we called the "weekday-on and weekend-off regimen". Here we report the results of this regimen compared to the conventional medication schedule. METHODS In total, 58 patients were enrolled in this study. Twenty patients were treated under the alternative schedule (group I: weekday-on and weekend-off regimen) and 38 patients were treated using the conventional schedule (group II: 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off regimen). The relative dose intensity (6W-RDI) and prognoses were compared between the two groups. RESULTS Median 6W-RDI of all the patients was 75.0%. Group I patients demonstrated significantly higher 6W-RDI compared to group II (77.2 vs. 70.4%) (p = 0.019). Multivariate analysis showed that the alternative sunitinib administration schedule was significantly associated with maintaining 6W-RDI above 75% for RCC patients treated with sunitinib (OR 3.592, 95% CI 1.042-12.383, p = 0.043). On the other hand, there were no significant differences between 2 groups regarding occurrence rate of severe adverse events and prognosis by multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS We report the results of an alternative medication schedule, the "weekday-on and weekend-off regimen", as a means of increasing 6W-RDI for metastatic RCC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prognostication of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) is based on Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium (IMDC) risk classifications. Research has shown that hyponatremia is associated with worse prognosis in cancer. We analyzed the association of hyponatremia and outcome in everolimus-treated mRCC patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS Baseline and on-treatment (≤12 weeks) sodium in 233 mRCC patients was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier, Cox regression and logistic regression. Baseline sodium was correlated with baseline thrombocyte and neutrophil values. RESULTS 65 (28%) and 41 (18%) patients had sodium < lower limit of normal (LLN) at baseline and on-treatment, respectively. Baseline sodium < LLN was associated with shorter overall survival (OS) (6.1 vs. 10.3 months; p < .001) and progression-free survival (PFS) (2.8 vs. 3.5 months; p = .04). On-treatment sodium < LLN was associated with shorter OS (5.4 vs. 9.9 months; p < .001) and PFS (2.8 vs. 4.0 months; p < .001). In multivariate analyses adjusted for IMDC factors, baseline and on-treatment sodium < LLN were significantly associated with shorter OS (adjusted HR 1.46 (95% CI 1.04-2.05); p = .02; adjusted HR 1.80 (95% CI 1.23-2.61); p = .002; respectively). On-treatment sodium < LLN was significantly associated with progressive disease (OR 0.23 (95% CI 0.10-0.56); p = .001). A landmark analysis demonstrated that on-treatment hyponatremia was significantly associated with shorter OS and PFS (p = .01 and p = .03, respectively). On-treatment normalization of hyponatremia was associated with improved OS (unadjusted HR 0.61 (95% CI 0.35-0.98); p = .04), as compared to patients with sustained hyponatremia throughout follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Hyponatremia associates with poor outcome in mRCC patients treated with everolimus. On-treatment normalization of hyponatremia to normal sodium values associates with favorable outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation plays a crucial role in cancer development. In this study, we evaluate the prognostic values of systemic inflammation markers such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) for the progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed and the Cochrane Library databases were searched for published studies on the effect of NLR, PLR, and CRP in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors. RESULTS In the meta-analysis, NLR (hazard ratio [HR], 2.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.27-3.18; P = .003) and PLR (HR, 6.96; 95% CI, 5.04-9.62; P < .001) had a significant influence on progression-free survival, whereas all considered proinflammatory markers had a significant impact on overall survival: NLR (HR, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.67-2.73; P < .001), PLR (HR, 14.67; 95% CI, 11.10-19.57; P < .001), and CRP (HR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.26-3.05; P = .003). CONCLUSIONS Inflammation markers such as NLR, PLR, and CRP are predictors of clinical outcome and could provide additional information to individualize treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To clarify comprehensive immunological signature patterns of tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes in patients with renal cell carcinoma and show its clinical significance. MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated the surface marker expressions of tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes quantitatively and classified them based on their functional populations. We extracted 109 sets of tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes from 80 patients who underwent surgical resection of renal cell carcinoma, of which 44 tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes were multiply extracted from 15 patients. Each tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocyte was characterised on the basis of functional T-cell populations using ten surface marker expressions measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS All sets of the tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes were classified into three groups, which correlated significantly with Fuhrman grade (OR 0.253, 95% CI 0.094-0.678, P = 0.006). Importantly, both overall metastasis-free survival (HR 0.449, 95% CI 0.243-0.832, P = 0.011) and recurrence-free survival (HR 0.475, 95% CI 0.238-0.948, P = 0.035) of the patients with the higher marker expressions were significantly inferior to those of the patients with the lower marker expressions by multivariate analysis. Six specific genes for this classification identified by microarray analysis verified our results using the TCGA KIRC data set. In addition, we discovered the presence of intra-tumoural diversity in the classification of 3 (20%) of the 15 patients. CONCLUSIONS This study showed that the presence of classable diversity in the immunological signature of tumour tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes correlated with prognosis and tumour aggressiveness that was observed even within individual tumours in some patients with renal cell carcinoma.

PURPOSE A systematic literature review was done to determine the relationship between elevated CRP and prognosis in people with solid tumors. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a serum acute phase reactant and a well-established inflammatory marker. We also examined the role of CRP to predict treatment response and tumor recurrence. METHODS MeSH (Medical Subject Heading) terms were used to search multiple electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, EBM-Cochrane). Two independent reviewers selected research papers. We also included a quality Assessment (QA) score. Reports with QA scores <50% were excluded. PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) methodology was utilized for this review (S1 PRISMA Checklist). RESULTS 271 articles were identified for final review. There were 45% prospective studies and 52% retrospective. 264 had intermediate QA score (≥50% but <80%); Seven were adequate (80% -100%); A high CRP was predictive of prognosis in 90% (245/271) of studies-80% of the 245 studies by multivariate analysis, 20% by univariate analysis. Many (52%) of the articles were about gastrointestinal malignancies (GI) or kidney malignancies. A high CRP was prognostic in 90% (127 of 141) of the reports in those groups of tumors. CRP was also prognostic in most reports in other solid tumors primary sites. CONCLUSIONS A high CRP was associated with higher mortality in 90% of reports in people with solid tumors primary sites. This was particularly notable in GI malignancies and kidney malignancies. In other solid tumors (lung, pancreas, hepatocellular cancer, and bladder) an elevated CRP also predicted prognosis. In addition there is also evidence to support the use of CRP to help decide treatment response and identify tumor recurrence. Better designed large scale studies should be conducted to examine these issues more comprehensively.

Abstract
Background: Several biomarkers of treatment efficacy have been associated with a better prognosis in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). The prognostic significance of biomarkers in the early treatment phase is unclear. Material and methods: In a complete national cohort of mRCC patients receiving first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) or interleukin-2 based immunotherapy (IT) from 2006 to 2010, overall survival (OS) was analysed for baseline International mRCC Database Consortium (IMDC) classification factors and on-treatment time-dependent biomarkers obtained day 1 each cycle week 4–12 after treatment initiation with multivariate analysis and bootstrap validation. Results: A total of 735 patients received first-line TKI (59%) or IT (41%). Median OS was overall 14.0 months and 33.4, 18.5, and 5.8 months for baseline IMDC favourable, intermediate, and poor risk groups, respectively (p < 0.0001). Systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg, neutrophils < lower level of normal (LLN), platelets < LLN, sodium ≥ LLN, and LDH ≤1.5 times upper level of normal after treatment initiation were significantly associated with favourable OS independent of baseline IMDC risk group in multivariate analyses stratified for TKI and IT (p ≤ 0.04). Concordance (C)-index for IMDC classification alone was 0.625 (95% CI 0.59–0.66) and combined with the five-factor biomarker profile 0.683 (95% CI 0.64–0.72). For patients with good (3–5 factors) and poor (0–2 factors) biomarker profile median OS were 23.5 and 9.6 months, respectively (p < 0.0001). Adding the five-factor biomarker profile significantly improved prognostication in IMDC intermediate (25.7 vs. 12.0 months, p < 0.0001) and poor (12.8 vs. 6.4 months, p < 0.0001) risk groups. A trend was seen in IMDC favourable risk group (38.9 vs. 28.7 months, p = 0.112). Conclusion: On-treatment hypertension, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, LDH below 1.5 times upper level of normal, and normal sodium, obtained week 4–12 of treatment, are independent biomarkers of favourable outcome in mRCC, independent of treatment type.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of hyponatremia in patients with metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treated with a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). METHODS This study included a total of 209 consecutive Japanese patients undergoing radical nephrectomy who were subsequently treated with either sunitinib or sorafenib as a first-line therapy for metastatic clear cell RCC. In this series, normal natremia and hyponatremia prior to the introduction of TKI was defined as a serum sodium level >136 and ≤136 mEq/L, respectively. RESULTS Patients were classified into 165 (78.9 %) with normal natremia and 44 (21.1 %) with hyponatremia. Progression-free survival (PFS) in the hyponatremia group (median 10.0 months) was significantly poorer than that in the normal natremia group (median 28.4 months). Overall survival (OS) in the hyponatremia group (median 20.9 months) was significantly poorer than that in the normal natremia group (median 38.5 months). Multivariate analyses identified hyponatremia, in addition to the existence of sarcomatoid components in radical nephrectomy specimens, high serum C-reactive protein levels, and low serum albumin levels, as poor prognostic factors for both PFS and OS. There were significant differences in both PFS and OS according to the number of these 4 independent risk factors that were positive (negative for any risk factors vs positive for 1 or 2 risk factors vs positive for 3 or 4 risk factors). CONCLUSIONS Hyponatremia appears to be one of the most powerful prognostic predictors in Japanese patients treated with a TKI as a first-line agent against metastatic clear cell RCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to identify preoperative parameters for predicting cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who have undergone radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). METHODS The preoperative clinical and laboratory records of 357 UTUC patients who underwent RNU at three different institutions were retrospectively reviewed (256, training set; 101, test set). Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed on the training set data to identify preoperative prognostic factors, using which a risk stratification model was developed. The model was validated using test set data. RESULTS In univariate analysis, clinical T stage classification and preoperative concentrations of hemoglobin, C-reactive protein, sodium, and albumin showed significant association with CSS. Multivariate analysis showed that low preoperative sodium and hemoglobin concentrations were significantly associated with a poor prognosis. A risk stratification model was developed using the preoperative sodium (<141 mEq/L) and hemoglobin concentrations (below normal). Three subgroups were formed depending on the presence of no (favorable group), one (intermediate), or two (poor) prognostic factors, and the 5-year CSS estimates were found to be 96.5, 75.5, and 47.0 %, respectively (P < 0.01). The risk model was significantly associated with the adverse pathological findings of stage pT3 or more and lymphovascular invasion (P = 0.005). CONCLUSION We identified low preoperative sodium and hemoglobin concentrations as prognostic factors for patients with UTUC treated with RNU. Our risk stratification model may help physicians design a therapeutic strategy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyponatremia has been associated with poor survival in many solid tumors and more recently found to be of prognostic and predictive value in metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC) patients treated with immunotherapy. OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of baseline hyponatremia in mRCC patients treated with targeted therapy in the International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS Data on 1661 patients treated with first-line vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) targeted therapy for mRCC were available from 18 cancer centers to study the impact of hyponatremia (serum sodium level <135 mmol/l) on clinical outcomes. OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS The primary objective was overall survival (OS) and secondary end points included time to treatment failure (TTF) and the disease control rate (DCR). The chi-square test was used to compare the DCR in patients with and without hyponatremia. OS and TTF were estimated with the Kaplan-Meier method and differences between groups were examined by the log-rank test. Multivariable logistic regression (for DCR) and Cox regression (for OS and TTF) were undertaken adjusted for prognostic risk factors. RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS Median OS after treatment initiation was 18.5 mo (95% confidence interval [CI], 17.5-19.8 mo), with 552 (33.2%) of patients remaining alive on a median follow-up of 22.1 mo. Median baseline serum sodium was 138 mmol/l (range: 122-159 mmol/l), and hyponatremia was found in 14.6% of patients. On univariate analysis, hyponatremia was associated with shorter OS (7.0 vs 20.9 mo), shorter TTF (2.9 vs 7.4 mo), and lower DCR rate (54.9% vs 78.8%) (p<0.0001 for all comparisons). In multivariate analysis, these effects remain significant (hazard ratios: 1.51 [95% CI, 1.26-1.80] for OS, and 1.57 [95% CI, 1.34-1.83] for TTF; odds ratio: 0.50 [95% CI, 34-0.72] for DCR; adjusted p<0.001). Results were similar if sodium was analyzed as a continuous variable (adjusted p<0.0001 for OS, TTF, and DCR). CONCLUSIONS This is the largest multi-institutional report to show that hyponatremia is independently associated with a worse outcome in mRCC patients treated with VEGF- and mTOR-targeted agents.
