Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of male hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and serostatus on sperm quality, pregnancy outcomes, and neonatal outcomes following intrauterine insemination for infertility. DESIGN AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed data from 962 infertile couples undergoing intrauterine insemination treatment at a single center. The case group comprised 212 infertile couples with male HBV infection, and the control group comprised 750 noninfected infertile couples. The couples were further divided into subgroups according to their hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)/anti-HBe status: hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)+HBeAg- (group A), HBsAg+HBeAg+ (group B), and HBsAg-HBeAg- (control group). The main outcome parameters, including the seminal parameters, clinical pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate, live birth rate, preterm delivery rate, multiple pregnancy rate, delivery type, birth weight, and sex ratio, were compared. RESULTS A lower sperm acrosin activity, higher cesarean rate, and newborn sex ratio were observed in the HBV-infected group and group A in comparison with the control group (P < 0.05). However, the standard sperm parameters, clinical pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate, live birth rate, preterm delivery, and birth weight showed no statistically significant differences among the groups. CONCLUSION Male HBV infection does not adversely impact standard sperm parameters or pregnancy outcomes but can influence sperm acrosin activity and some neonatal outcomes. Moreover, the effect may vary among different HBV serostatuses.

Abstract
To investigate the effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on the outcomes of Chinese couples undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and the clinical data of their neonates. A total of 21,999 first embryo transfer cycles were included. They were categorized into four groups based on the couple's hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) result (Group A = female HBsAg- and male HBsAg- ; Group B = female HBsAg+ and male HBsAg- ; Group C = female HBsAg- and male HBsAg+ ; Group D = female HBsAg+ and male HBsAg+ ). The fertilization rate (FR), cleavage rate (CR), implantation rate (IPR), clinical pregnancy rate (CPR), live birth rate (LBR) and miscarriage rate (MCR) were analysed. Multilevel logistic regression was applied to evaluate the association. The total prevalence of HBV infection was 5.74% (2526/43998). There were no statistically significant differences in CRs (98.69%, 98.76%, 98.66%, 98.72%, p > .05), IPRs (45.86%, 47.33%, 45.19%, 39.61%, p > .05), CPRs (62.84%, 65.05%, 61.80%, 56.81%, p > .05), MCRs (12.70%, 11.99%, 12.58%, 4%, p > .05) and LBRs (53.43%, 55.38%, 52.70%, 54.54%, p > .05) among the four groups. However, there were significant differences in FRs (66.25%, 66.55%, 66.32%, 61.92%, p < .05). Group D had the lowest FR. After adjusting for confounders, the multilevel logistic regression showed that HBsAg+ had no impact on the LBR, CPR or MCR. We also analysed the data of 14,465 newborns, including 8593 singletons and 2936 twins. Among the four groups, no variables reached statistical significance, including neonatal birth weight (NBW), twin ratio, gestational age, premature birth, delivery type, fetal macrosomia or low birth weight (p > .05). Our study demonstrates that, although biparental HBV infection may affect the FR, neither single-parent infection nor biparental HBV infection affects IVF/ICSI outcomes or neonatal outcomes.

Abstract
Maternal-to-child transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis delta virus (HDV) can lead to the risk of progressive liver disease in infants, but fortunately effective interventions exist to decrease transmission. Counseling on the risk of maternal-to-child transmission, care pathways to decrease transmission, and the implications of HBV and HDV on pregnancy outcomes are the key components of caring for pregnant people living with HBV and HDV.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE The association of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection with reduced fecundability among reproductive-aged couples lacks large-population, in-depth study evidence. OBJECTIVE To investigate the association of HBV infection with time to pregnancy in couples planning pregnancy, and to explore whether this association varied by gravidity, health statuses, or lifestyles. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This is a population-based cohort study of Chinese couples participating in the National Free Preconception Check-up Projects during 2015 to 2017. They were planning pregnancy and were followed-up every 3 months until getting pregnant, as confirmed by gynecologic ultrasonography, or were followed-up for 1 year. Data were analyzed between March 1, 2022, and September 30, 2022. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The main outcome was time to pregnancy, assessed using fecundability hazard ratios (HRs). The Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the association of HBV infection with fecundability. RESULTS Among 2 419 848 couples (mean [SD] age, 27.87 [5.20] years for women and 29.58 [5.50] years for men), 126 728 women (5.24%) and 156 572 men (6.47%) were infected with HBV. Compared with the HBV-negative group, the fecundability of both women and men in the HBV-positive group decreased by 5% (HR, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.94-0.95). Compared with couples in which both partners were HBV negative, the fecundability of those in which both partners were HBV positive declined by 6% (HR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.93-0.96) among all couples, by 3% (HR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.95-0.99) among nulligravidas couples, and by 7% (HR, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.91-0.95) among multigravidas couples. Both the female-male and couple models suggested that the association of HBV infection with decreased fecundability was more pronounced in couples with multigravidas. The negative association was greater in people with overweight and obesity and was inconsistent in certain subgroups; in particular, it was more pronounced in women with reproductive tract infections, normal fasting plasma glucose, and no alcohol intake and in men with normal blood pressure. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE In this population-based cohort study, HBV infection was associated with decreased fecundability in a general reproductive-aged population, especially in couples with multigravidas. For women and men with certain health statuses and lifestyles, a comprehensive consideration of this association is recommended to provide personalized fertility guidance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the importance of miRNA variants in female reproductive disorders has been frequently reported, the association between miRNA polymorphisms and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) has been poorly studied. In this study, we aimed to assess the correlation of four different miRNA variants to unexplained RPL. METHODS AND RESULTS The prevalence of four SNPs including miR-21 rs1292037, miR-155-5p rs767649, miR-218-2 rs11134527, and miR-605 rs2043556 in 280 cases with iRPL and 280 controls was performed. The DNA was extracted from all subjects and the SNPs were genotyped using RFLP-PCR methods. The data revealed that rs1292037 and rs767649 were significantly associated with higher rates of iRPL in patients compared with controls while rs11134527 and rs2043556 showed no association with increased rates of iRPL among patients. The haplotypes T-A-G-G and T-A-G-A were the most frequent in both cases and controls. Three haplotypes including T-T-G-A, C-T-G-G, and T-A-A-A showed significantly different frequencies in patients in comparison to healthy females. CONCLUSION This study suggests that rs1292037 and rs767649 could be risk factors for increased rates of iRPL.

Abstract
It is widely accepted that kisspeptin plays an integral role in the regulation of reproduction. Genetic variations in the KISS1 gene have been frequently reported to be linked to reproductive diseases, but there is still a lack of data on the association between KISS1 variations and female reproductive disorders. The present study aimed to examine the association of three missense SNPs in the KISS1 gene including rs12998, rs35431622, and rs4889 in association with idiopathic recurrent pregnancy loss (iRPL). A total of 720 individuals were recruited in this study. The DNA from the blood sample was extracted and genotyped using the PCR method. Haplotype and linkage disequilibrium (LD) have also been analyzed. The results of this study suggested that rs12998 G > A and rs4889 C > G had a significant association with iRPL (p < 0.05); while rs35431622 A > G didn't indicate any association with iRPL. A significant association was also found for three haplotypes including C-A-A, G-G-G, and G-G-A in this population. The analysis also showed a significant LD between rs12998 and rs35431622 (P < 0.0005). The rs12998 G > A and rs4889 C > G variants of KISS1 are linked to unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss and may be risk factors for this disease.

Abstract
A prevalent sexually transmitted infection, the human papillomavirus (HPV) is typically obtained just after the first sexual activity. The majority of HPV infections are asymptomatic and temporary. Cervical, anal, penile, vaginal, vulvar, and oropharyngeal cancers can occur due to recurrent infections with high-risk (hr)-HPV strains, generally decades later. Infections with HPV are significantly associated with reproductive function abnormalities. Per recent research, HPV infections may result in male infertility by reducing sperm motility. The hr-HPV infection was a risk factor for miscarriage, and the indiscriminate HPV genotype increased the probability of premature labor unexpectedly. Women's endometrial trophoblastic cell implantation is decreased by HPV. Gardnerella vaginalis (GV), an anaerobic bacterium that is a component of the natural vaginal flora, can be associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV) when it starts to overgrow and emerge as the dominant species. Reduced Lactobacillus species abundance and GV are linked to female infertility. Data from in vitro studies suggests that sialidase produced by GV may facilitate the entry and growth of papilloma and other sexually transmitted viruses. Also, based on some studies conducted in the past, it can be said that GV and BV are associated with the development of uterine cancer. However, there is still not enough information about the exact mechanism of GV and HPV in causing infertility, which requires more research.

Abstract
AIM Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a common reproductive disorder among women and a major cause of infertility among them; however, the underlying causes of RPL remain unknown which have led to great difficulties and complications in the treatment. MicroRNAs (miRNA) have been shown to be a potential diagnosis tools in different reproductive disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association of four different miRNA variants with the risk of idiopathic RPL (iRPL). METHODS A total of 450 women including 225 patients and 225 controls were recruited in this study. DNA was extracted, and genotyped by PCR method. Haplotype analysis, as well as linkage disequilibrium between SNPs, was performed. CONCLUSION This study suggested that rs4636297, rs41291957, and rs353292, but not rs531564 can play a risk factor role for iRLP.

Abstract
Aim The rapid outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic posed challenges across different medical fields, especially reproductive health, and gave rise to concerns regarding the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on male infertility, owing to the fact that the male reproductive system indicated to be extremely vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Only a small number of studies have investigated the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on male reproduction, but the results are not consistent. So, we performed this meta-analysis to draw a clearer picture and evaluate the impacts of COVID-19 on male reproductive system. Method We searched Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases to identify the potentially relevant studies. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was applied to assess the relationship. Heterogeneity testing, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias testing were also performed. Results A total of twelve studies including 7 case control investigations and 5 retrospective cohort studies were found relevant and chosen for our research. Our result showed that different sperm parameters including semen volume [SMD = − 0.27 (− 0.46, − 1.48) (p = 0.00)], sperm concentration [SMD = − 0.41 (− 0.67, − 0.15) (p = 0.002)], sperm count [SMD = − 0.30 (− 0.44, − 0.17) (p = 0.00)], sperm motility [SMD = − 0.66 (− 0.98, − 0.33) (p = 0.00)], and progressive motility [SMD = − 0.35 (− 0.61, − 0.08) (p = 0.01)] were negatively influenced by SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, sperm concentration (p = 0.07) and progressive motility (p = 0.61) were not found to be significantly associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in case control studies. No publication bias was detected. Conclusion The present study revealed the vulnerability of semen quality to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our data showed a strong association of different sperm parameters with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The results suggested that SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients may negatively influence their fertility potential in a short-term period, but more studies are needed to decide about the long-term effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are currently no published data on the use of HepB-CpG (HEPLISAV-B®) during pregnancy or in women with documented pregnancies in the post-vaccination period. We aimed to evaluate data from the clinical development program of HepB-CpG in women who became pregnant during study participation and follow up. METHODS We identified all study participants in the HepB-CpG pivotal pre-licensure clinical trials that had documented pregnancies during study follow up. We measured immunogenicity among study participants in the HepB-CpG (Heplisav-B®) arm compared to the HepB-alum (Engerix-B®) arm of the studies by comparing seroprotection rates (SPRs; anti-HBs ≥ 10 mIU/mL) and geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of anti-HBs, obtained with FDA approved anti-HBsAg antibody assays at prespecified time points up to 28 weeks of follow up. Pregnancy outcomes were ascertained by chart review of extracted medical records of study participants. RESULTS We identified 40 documented pregnancies in the HepB-CpG arm and 19 documented pregnancies in the HepB-alum arm. Among subjects with documentation of seroprotection rates, 97.2% (95% CI 85.5-99.9) were seroprotected in the HepB-CpG arm and 66.7% (95% CI 41.0-86.7) were seroprotected in the HepB-alum arm. In the HepB-CpG arm, thirty-six study participants from the pivotal trials had reported pregnancy outcomes, the majority, 21/36 (58%) had a healthy term delivery, with 3/36 (8%) with spontaneous abortions, 1/36 (3%) congenital anomaly, and 2/36 (6%) had preterm birth. In the HepB-alum arm, 10/17 (59%) had healthy term deliveries, with 2/17 (12%) had spontaneous abortions and 1/17 (6%) had congenital anomaly. CONCLUSIONS These limited data suggest that HepB-CpG is immunogenic in women who become pregnant after vaccination, and pregnancy outcomes appear to be similar to women who received HepB-alum prior to pregnancy. These results need to be further verified with larger prospective studies with HBV vaccine administration during pregnancy.

Abstract
Reproductive diseases could lead to infertility and have implications for overall health, most importantly due to psychological, medical and socio-economic consequences for individuals and society. Furthermore, economical losses also occur in animal husbandry. In both human and veterinary medicine, hormonal and surgical treatments, as well as assisted reproductive technologies are used to cure reproductive disorders, however they do not improve fertility. With ovarian disorders being the main reproductive pathology in human and bovine, over the past 2 decades research has approached regenerative medicine in animal model to restore normal function. Ovarian pathologies are characterized by granulosa cell and oocyte apoptosis, follicular atresia, decrease in oocyte quality and embryonic development potential, oxidative stress and mitochondrial abnormalities, ultimately leading to a decrease in fertility. At current, application of mesenchymal stromal cells or derivatives thereof represents a valid strategy for regenerative purposes. Considering their paracrine/autocrine mode of actions that are able to regenerate injured tissues, trophic support, preventing apoptosis and fibrosis, promoting angiogenesis, stimulating the function and differentiation of endogenous stem cells and even reducing the immune response, are all important players in their future therapeutic success. Nevertheless, obtaining mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) from adult tissues requires invasive procedures and implicates decreased cell proliferation and a reduced differentiation capacity with age. Alternatively, the use of embryonic stem cells as source of cellular therapeutic encountered several ethical concerns, as well as the risk of teratoma formation. Therefore, several studies have recently focussed on perinatal derivatives (PnD) that can be collected non-invasively and, most importantly, display similar characteristics in terms of regenerating-inducing properties, immune-modulating properties and hypo-immunogenicity. This review will provide an overview of the current knowledge and future perspectives of PnD application in the treatment of ovarian hypofunction.

Abstract
Background: While different studies have investigated the association of SNPs with female reproductive disorders, a limited number of studies have investigated the effect of microRNAs variants in endometriosis. In this study, we evaluated the prevalence and the association of three different miRNAs variants including, miR-27a rs895819, miR-124-1 rs531564, and miR-423 rs6505162 with endometriosis to help further elucidate the importance of these variants in female reproductive disorders. Methods: A total number of 440 women (220 cases and 220 controls) were included. DNA was extracted and genotyping of the SNPs was carried out by PCR. Results: The results showed that rs895819 and rs6505162 had a significant association with endometriosis under the dominant, recessive, co-dominant, and allelic model, but rs531564 was not linked to endometriosis. Our results also imply a protective effect on endometriosis severity for AG genotype and G allele in rs895819 (p < 0.001), and also for AA and AC genotypes in rs6505162 with severity in endometriosis (p < 0.001). Moreover, Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, haplotype frequency, and linkage disequilibrium between SNPs were performed. Conclusion: miR-27a rs895819 and miR-423 rs6505162, but not miR-124-1 rs531564, are linked to endometriosis.
