Abstract
Studies of several cultures ofSalmonella typhi-muriumvar.binnsrevealed the fact that all contained specific components characteristic ofS. typhi-murium. These cultures lacked the somatic factor V. It is proposed, therefore, to emend the antigenic formula ofS. typhi-muriumvar.binnsfrom IV, V: —: 1, 2, 3, to IV: i: 1, 2, 3. Under the emended variety would also be included the organisms described by Kauffmann asS. typhi-muriumvar.copenhagenand by Edwards asS. aertryckevar.storrs.The writer acknowledges with grateful appreciation his indebtedness to Dr Harry Schiitze for his interest and helpful suggestions and to Dr W. M. Scott, Dr F. Kauffmann and Miss Georgia Cooper for forwarding cultures.
