Abstract
Ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum (AFA) is a rare congenital anomaly consisting of partial or complete fusion of the eyelid margins. It is usually isolated and benign, but its presence should alert the neonatologist as it may rarely be associated with other disorders. We present a case of a 3-day-old newborn presenting with isolated AFA at birth.

Abstract
Ankyloblepharon-ectodermal defect-cleft lip/cleft palate (AEC) syndrome is one of the variants of ectodermal dysplasia. It is an autosomal dominant disorder comprising of ankyloblepharon, ectodermal dysplasia, and cleft palate or cleft lip. In 1976, it wasfirst described by Hay and Wells, therefore also known as Hay–Wells syndrome. The characteristic feature of this syndrome is “ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum”, which refers to the partial thickness fusion of the eyelid margins. The “curly hair-ankyloblepharon-nail disease (CHAND) syndrome” is a clinical variant of AEC syndrome. We report a rare case of a 7-year-old girl child who presented with history of abnormal dentition, 20 nail dystrophy, and light-colored, sparse curly hairs since birth. Parents gave history that at the time of birth, her both eyelids were fused partially, which was surgically corrected by an ophthalmologist at 1 month of age. There was no history of hypohidrosis or anhidrosis, heat intolerance, cleft lip or cleft palate. Microscopy of the hair shaft found “bubbly hair” morphology. This case is unique as it is a rare presentation, and awareness should be there for this constellation of findings so that the systemic associations can be investigated. “Bubble hair” morphology on microscopy is a unique feature in this rare autosomal recessive condition.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Congenital intraoral synechias are adhesions of intraoral structures involving soft tissue. These conditions and another anomaly called ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum, which is partial fusion of the eyelid margins by bands of tissue, are rarely reported in the literature. The association of both anomalies of the craniomaxillofacial region is an even more unusual finding. PURPOSE This article adds more information to the literature by reporting a case of a neonate with a rare association of bilateral synechia between the jaws, fusion of buccal mucosa to the ridges and between the tongue and palate, and ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum in both eyes, without any other facial or systemic malformation. METHODS A literature review of similar cases published in PUBMED/MEDLINE was conducted followed by a discussion and comparison to the new case. CONCLUSION The rare association of these congenital defects, without the presence of syndromic symptoms, could be diagnosed and treated easily with good prognostic evolution.

Abstract
The ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum is a congenital eyelid anomaly in which the development of the eyelids is completed but the eyelids are not completely separated at birth. The abnormality can occur as an isolated anomaly, together with other eye diseases or in the context of systemic syndromes. In this case report the current classification and essential diagnostics of AFA will be reviewed.

Abstract
Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) represents a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders characterized by the absence or deformity in two or more of the ectodermal appendages. We have studied an autosomal recessive form of ED in 13 individuals over six generations from an inbred Pakistani family. The clinical features of the affected individuals include highly dystrophic nails and thin hair on scalp, fine eyebrows and eyelashes, and thin body hair. Genome-wide linkage analysis of 390 microsatellite markers mapped the ED gene to the 3.92 cM interval flanked by markers D10S1710 and D10S1741 on chromosome 10q24.32-q25.1. Multipoint linkage analysis generated a maximum logarithm of odds ratio score of 4.79 in the interval D10S1239-D10S1264, which corresponds to 6.35 Mb.

Abstract
Several autosomal dominantly inherited human syndromes have recently been shown to result from mutations in the p63 gene. These syndromes have various combinations of limb malformations fitting the split hand-split foot spectrum, orofacial clefting, and ectodermal dysplasia. The p63 syndrome family includes the EEC syndrome, AEC syndrome, ADULT syndrome, limb-mammary syndrome, and non-syndromic split hand/foot malformation. The pattern of heterozygous mutations is distinct for each of these syndromes. The functional effects on the p63 proteins also vary between syndromes. In all of these syndromes, the mutation appears to have both dominant negative and gain of function effects rather than causing a simple loss of function.

Abstract
We describe a Dutch kindred with a possibly novel dominant syndrome of premature loss of curly, brittle hair, premature loss of teeth due to caries, nail dystrophy and acral keratoderma. We discuss the possibility that this ectodermal dysplasia of group 1-2-3-4 is a variant of known disorders such as pachyonychia congenita. We conclude that none of these diagnoses fits the symptoms we observe in our patients and propose the name curly hair-acral keratoderma-caries syndrome in view of the most obvious abnormalities.

Abstract
Among the ectodermal dysplasias, there are several examples of overlapping phenotypes in disorders that are considered distinct. We report a 5-year-old boy born to nonconsanguineous parents and presenting with ectodermal dysplasia, ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum, and bilateral choanal atresia consistent with the diagnosis of AEC syndrome. We compare the findings in our patient with the previous reported cases and discuss the overlapping phenotype of this disorder with CHAND syndrome.

Abstract
This paper reports on a family with popliteal pterygium syndrome (PPS), which was ascertained through a baby with most of the major signs of the syndrome. The mother, who had a repaired cleft palate and toe syndactyly, had been aware that her syndactyly was familial, but her unpreparedness for the birth of a child with PPS led to interest in, and a subsequent review of, the differnetial diagnosis and the variable expression of the clinical manifestations of this syndrome. Upon review, some earlier reported cases were excluded as PPS, and certain ascertainment and reporting biases that could affect such an analysis were considered.
