Abstract
It was well documented that macro/trace elements were associated with the neurodevelopment. We aimed to investigate the relationship between copper (Cu)/zinc (Zn)/iron/calcium (Ca)/magnesium (Mg) levels and cerebral palsy (CP) by performing a meta-analysis. We searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane and Chinese WanFang databases from January 1985 to June 2022 to yield studies that met our predefined criteria. Standard mean differences (SMDs) of Cu/Zn/Iron/Ca/Mg levels between CP cases and healthy controls were calculated using the fixed-effects model or the random-effects model, in the presence of heterogeneity. 95% confidence intervals (CI) were also computed. Sensitivity analysis was performed by omitting each study in turn. A total of 19 studies were involved in our investigation. CP cases showed markedly lower Cu, Zn, iron and Ca levels than those in controls among overall populations (SMD = - 2.156, 95% CI - 3.013 to - 1.299, P < 10-4; SMD = - 2.223, 95% CI - 2.966 to - 1.480, P < 10-4; SMD = - 1.092, 95% CI - 1.513 to - 0.672, P < 10-4; SMD = - 0.757, 95% CI - 1.475 to - 0.040, P = 0.038) and Asians (SMD = - 2.893, 95% CI - 3.977 to - 1.809, P < 10-4; SMD = - 2.559, 95% CI - 3.436 to - 1.683, P < 10-4; SMD = - 1.336, 95% CI - 1.807 to - 0.865, P < 10-4; SMD = - 1.000, 95% CI - 1.950 to - 0.051, P = 0.039). CP cases showed markedly lower Zn level than that in controls among Caucasians (SMD = - 0.462, 95% CI - 0.650 to - 0.274, P < 10-4). No significant differences of Cu, iron and Ca levels between CP cases and controls among Caucasians (SMD = - 0.188, 95% CI - 0.412 to 0.037, P = 0.101; SMD = - 0.004, 95% CI - 0.190 to 0.182, P = 0.968; SMD = 0.070, 95% CI - 0.116 to 0.257, P = 0.459) were observed. No marked difference of Mg level between CP cases and controls was noted among overall populations (SMD = - 0.139, 95% CI - 0.504 to 0.226, P = 0.455), Asians (SMD = - 0.131, 95% CI - 0.663 to 0.401, P = 0.629), and Caucasians (SMD = - 0.074, 95% CI - 0.361 to 0.213, P = 0.614). Sensitivity analysis did not change the overall results significantly for Cu, Zn, iron and Mg. CP cases demonstrated significantly lower levels of Cu/Zn/iron/Ca than those in healthy controls, particularly in Asians. Decreasing trend of Cu/Zn/iron/Ca levels merit attention, particularly in the population with high susceptibility to CP. Frequent monitoring and early intervention may be needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the association between energy and nutrient intake, nutritional status and motor compromise in children and adolescents aged 2-19 years with cerebral palsy (CP) attending rehabilitation centers in the Province of Cordoba, Argentina. METHODS Cross sectional study. Data from 105 children and adolescents of both sexes aged 2-19 years with CP (67 boys [63.8% 53.84-72.95]) were collected. Motor compromise was assessed with GMFCS. 24 h records were collected and analyzed. The results were compared with the recommended by FAO/UNU/WHO for age and sex. Normal data were presented with mean and SD, while those of non-normal distribution were described as medians with their ranges. The relationship between variables was analyzed using Fisher, t, or Mann-Whitney tests, with a p value < 0.05. RESULTS The mean age was 11 years 6 months (SD 4 years 4 months). Fifteen [14.3% 8.23-22.48] children failed to meet at least 80% of the recommended energy. Children with GMFCS IV-V consume fewer daily calories and carbohydrate calories than their peers (I-III). The median protein intake of children GMFCS IV-V group was significantly lower than that of their peers (47.37 g vs. 71.56 g, p = 0.0057). Those who did not reach 80% of the recommended energy intake had lower intakes of macro and micronutrients. CONCLUSION The greater the motor compromise in children with CP, the greater the compromise in the adequacy of nutrient intake. The intake of macro and micronutrients was different according to whether or not they were able to cover at least 80% of the recommended energy for their age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many studies evaluating the nutritional status of children with cerebral palsy (CP) have focused on energy requirements and protein intake. The present work aimed to assess nutritional status and micronutrient levels of children with (CP). METHODS This multicenter, cross-sectional and observational study was conducted in 10 different cities in Turkey. Data were available for 398 participants. Anthropometric measurements, feeding mode, nutritional status, and micronutrient levels were evaluated. RESULTS The study was conducted with 398 participants (303 patients and 95 healthy controls). Statistical analysis showed that according to the Gomez Classification, weight-for-age (WFA) revealed malnutrition in 92.6% of children with CP, based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention percentiles. Measurements of micronutrient levels showed that zinc levels were low in patients, whereas vitamin A levels were low in controls. Phosphorous and manganese levels were significantly lower in malnourished children than in typical children. The results revealed that children consuming enteral nutrition solutions had higher selenium and lower zinc levels than non-consumers. CONCLUSIONS Malnutrition is not only a protein- or calorie-based problem; micronutrient deficiencies might cause severe health problems. Children with chronic neurological disabilities must be carefully evaluated for these issues. Therefore, nutritional interventions should be adapted to nutrition.

Abstract
BACKGORUND Oxidative stress is one of the main contributing factors involved in cerebral biochemical impairment. The higher susceptibility of the central nervous system to reactive oxygen species mediated damage could be attributed to several factors. For example, neurons use a greater quantity of oxygen, many parts of the brain have higher concentraton of iron, and neuronal mitochondria produce huge content of hydrogen peroxide. In addition, neuronal membranes have polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are predominantly vulnerable to oxidative stress (OS). OS is the imbalance between reactive oxygen species generation and cellular antioxidant potential. This may lead to various pathological conditions and diseases, especially neurodegenerative diseases such as, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Huntington's diseases. OBJECTIVES In this study, we explored the involvement of OS in neurodegenerative diseases. METHODS We used different search terms like "oxidative stress and neurological disorders" "free radicals and neurodegenerative disorders" "oxidative stress, free radicals, and neurological disorders" and "association of oxidative stress with the name of disorders taken from the list of neurological disorders. We tried to summarize the source, biological effects, and physiologic functions of ROS. RESULTS Finally, it was noted that more than 190 neurological disorders are associated with oxidative stress. CONCLUSION More elaborated studies in the future will certainly help in understanding the exact mechanism involved in neurological diseases and provide insight into revelation of therapeutic targets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have described a role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of various pediatric disorders, but investigation into oxidative stress status in patients with severe disability remains limited. The aim of the present study was therefore to clarify the oxidative stress status in patients with severe disability, focusing specifically on intake of three major nutrients and micronutrients with antioxidant activities. METHODS Thirty-one patients with severe disability (mean age, 14.1 ± 7.8 years) were enrolled. Three in vivo biomarkers, plasma biological antioxidant potential (BAP), plasma reactive oxygen metabolite-derived compounds (d-ROM), and urinary 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), were determined for evaluating oxidative status. The dietary intake of three major nutrients and various micronutrients was estimated from dietary records over a 3 day period. RESULTS In patients with severe disability, BAP was significantly lower and d-ROM and 8-OHdG significantly higher than in historical controls. Among these markers, a significant positive correlation was found in BAP versus d-ROM and d-ROM versus 8-OHdG. On multiple regression analysis, a significant inverse association between 8-OHdG and carotenoid intake was seen. CONCLUSION The oxidative/antioxidative balance shifts towards oxidative status dominance in patients with severe disability. More research is needed on nutritional intake of antioxidative nutrients to determine whether they can be used to reduce oxidative stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin E is routinely supplemented to preterm babies, including those with neonatal sepsis. Our aim was to examine the effects of neonatal sepsis and vitamin E on antioxidative system (AOS) in the blood. METHODS A prospective, randomized, open label study involved 65 preterm neonates (control/sepsis - 34/31), which were divided into two subgroups - non-supplemented and supplemented with vitamin E (25 IU/day for 60 days). The activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR) were determined in erythrocytes at days 0, 30, and 60, following sepsis diagnosis. RESULTS There was no difference in the activity of AOS between controls and neonates with ongoing sepsis. At 60 days, septic neonates showed higher CAT activity compared to controls (P = 0.027), and lower GPx activity compared to 0 days (P = 0.022). The later was mitigated by vitamin E, which on the other hand provoked lower GPx activity at 30 days, compared to untreated septic neonates (P = 0.014). In addition, vitamin E suppressed GR activity in septic neonates (P = 0.025 and P = 0.017 at 30 and 60 days). Finally, vitamin E supplementation in control neonates provoked a significant increase of GPx activity (P = 0.015 at 60 days). CONCLUSIONS The absence of altered redox settings in the blood of neonates during sepsis episode, and vitamin E-provoked decrease in the activity of some components of AOS, suggest that the supplementation of vitamin E in these patients might not be rational.
