Abstract
Cervical cancer is a leading cause of gynecological malignancies and cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. This study investigates the anti-cancer activity of Thua Nao, a Thai fermented soybean, against HeLa cervical carcinoma cells, and explores its underlying mechanisms. Our findings reveal that the ethyl acetate fraction of Thua Nao (TN-EA) exhibits strong anti-cancer potential against HeLa cells. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis identified genistein and daidzein as the major isoflavones in TN-EA responsible for its anti-cancer activity. TN-EA and genistein reduced cell proliferation and induced G2/M phase arrest, while daidzein induced G1 arrest. These responses were associated with the downregulation of cell cycle regulators, including Cyclin B1, cycle 25C (Cdc25C), and phosphorylated cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK-1), and the upregulation of the cell cycle inhibitor p21. Moreover, TN-EA and its active isoflavones promoted apoptosis in HeLa cells through the intrinsic pathway, evidenced by increased levels of cleaved Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and caspase-3, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, and the downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), B-cell lymphoma-extra-large (Bcl-xL), cellular inhibitor of apoptosis proteins 1 (cIAP), and survivin. Additionally, TN-EA and its active isoflavones effectively reduced cell invasion and migration by downregulating extracellular matrix degradation enzymes, including Membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP), urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), and urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), and reduced the levels of the mesenchymal marker N-cadherin. At the molecular level, TN-EA suppressed STAT3 activation via the regulation of JNK and Erk1/2 signaling pathways, leading to reduced proliferation and invasion of HeLa cells.

Abstract
Cancer is still a major challenge for humans. In recent years, researchers have focused on plant-based metabolites as a safe, efficient, alternative or combinatorial, as well as cost-effective preventive strategy against carcinogenesis. Mung bean is an important nutritious legume, and known for providing various health benefits due to various bioactive phytochemicals and easily digestible proteins. Regular intake of mung bean helps to regulate metabolism by affecting the growth and survival of good microbes in the host gut. Mung bean has also been reported to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory properties. These properties may possess the preventive potential of mung bean against carcinogenesis. Bibliographic databases for peer-reviewed research literature were searched through a structured conceptual approach using focused review questions on mung beans, anticancer, therapeutics, and functional foods along with inclusion/exclusion criteria. For the appraisal of the quality of retrieved articles, standard tools were employed. A deductive qualitative content analysis methodology further led us to analyze outcomes of the research and review articles. The present review provides recent updates on the anticancer potential of mung bean and the possible mechanism of action thereof to prevent carcinogenesis and metastasis. Extensive research on the active metabolites and mechanisms of action is required to establish the anticancer potential of mung bean. Keeping the above facts in view, mung bean should be investigated for its bioactive compounds, to be considered as functional food of the future.

Abstract
AIM Adherence to dietary recommendations has been linked to a reduced risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and dying of chronic liver disease. However, its role in the prognosis of HCC is still unclear. We prospectively investigated the association of two dietary quality indices, the Chinese Healthy Eating Index (CHEI) and the Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), with all-cause and HCC-specific mortality in a large prospective cohort of HCC survivors. METHODS We included 887 patients with newly diagnosed, previously untreated HCC enrolled in the Guangdong Liver Cancer Cohort (GLCC) between September 2013 and April 2017 in the analysis. CHEI and HEI-2015 scores were calculated based on the dietary intake in the year before diagnosis of HCC. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate multivariable hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for each index. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 797 days, 389 deaths were identified, including 347 from HCC. Higher CHEI scores, reflecting favorable adherence to the 2016 Dietary Guidelines for Chinese, were associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality (T3 vs. T1 : HR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.58-0.98) and HCC-specific mortality (T3 vs. T1 : HR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.56-0.98). Non-significant, inverse associations of HEI-2015 score with all-cause mortality (T3 vs. T1 : HR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.67-1.11) and HCC-specific mortality (T3 vs. T1 : HR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.71-1.21) were suggested. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that better adherence to the 2016 Dietary Guidelines for Chinese may reduce the risk of all-cause and HCC-specific mortality in patients with HCC.

Abstract
PURPOSE Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women all over the world. Many of these women resist the common treatments. Therefore, it is important to find new products to increase the efficacy of the treatment process. Legume beans, with their various pharmacological properties, can be regarded as a sensitizer when they are combined with radiation. The present study strove to survey the radio-sensitivity effect of proteins isolated from mung bean aqueous extract on the human breast adenocarcinoma cell line (MCF-7), human cervical cancer cells (Hela) and the human dermal fibroblast cell line. MATERIALS AND METHODS The mung bean aqueous extract was partially purified by ammonium sulfate. At first, various concentrations of the extracts were used to evaluate the inhibitory activity by MTT cell proliferation assay. RESULTS The results showed that MCF-7 cells and Hela cells were inhibited by an IC50 value of less than 250 and 411 µg/ml, respectively, but it proved to have a proliferation effect on the fibroblast cells. Then, the cells were incubated with 250 µg/ml extract and exposed to 2, 4, and 6 Gy of X-ray radiation. The percentage of the cell survival was investigated through MTT and the clonogenic assay. Apoptosis was measured using acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining. The results demonstrated that the treated MCF-7 cells and Hela cells had significant radio-sensitivity compared with the results of the control group in radiation dose manner in all MTT, clonogenic, and apoptosis assays. In contrast, the treated fibroblast showed a protective effect against radiation. CONCLUSION The results suggest that mung bean proteins have the capacity to be regarded as a radio-sensitizer for breast cancer. Our results also indicated that it could be worth to investigate on mung bean proteins further and they should be tested in animal models for being treated in radiotherapy.

Abstract
Polyphenols are plant secondary metabolites containing antioxidant properties, which help to protect chronic diseases from free radical damage. Dietary polyphenols are the subject of enhancing scientific interest due to their possible beneficial effects on human health. In the last two decades, there has been more interest in the potential health benefits of dietary polyphenols as antioxidant. Black soybeans (Glycine max L. Merr) are merely a black variety of soybean containing a variety of phytochemicals. These phytochemicals in black soybean (BSB) are potentially effective in human health, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases. Taking into account exploratory study, the present review aims to provide up-to-date data on health benefit of BSB, which helps to explore their therapeutic values for future clinical settings. All data of in vitro and in vivo studies of BSB and its impact on human health were collected from a library database and electronic search (Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar). The different pharmacological information was gathered and orchestrated in a suitable spot on the paper.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mung bean and soybean have been individually reported previously to have antioxidant, cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects, while fermentation is a well-known process to enhance the bioactive compounds that contribute to higher antioxidant, cytotoxic and immunomodulation effects. In this study, the free amino acids profile, soluble phenolic acids content, antioxidants, cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects of fermented and non-fermented mung bean and soybean were compared. RESULTS Fermented mung bean was recorded to have the highest level of free amino acids, soluble phenolic acids (especially protocatechuic acid) and antioxidant activities among all the tested products. Both fermented mung bean and soybean possessed cytotoxicity activities against breast cancer MCF-7 cells by arresting the G0/G1 phase followed by apoptosis. Moreover, fermented mung bean and soybean also induced splenocyte proliferation and enhanced the levels of serum interleukin-2 and interferon-γ. CONCLUSION Augmented amounts of free amino acids and phenolic acids content after fermentation enhanced the antioxidants, cytotoxicity and immunomodulation effects of mung bean and soybean. More specifically, fermented mung bean showed the best effects among all the tested products. This study revealed the potential of fermented mung bean and soybean as functional foods for maintenance of good health.

Abstract
The current study investigated the cytotoxic effect of 3-(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-2-(5-chloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-41(H)-one (A) and 3-(5-nitro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-2-(5-nitro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one (B) on MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, MCF-10A and WRL-68 cells. The mechanism involved in apoptosis was assessed to evaluate the possible pathways induced by compound A and B. MTT assay results using A and B showed significant inhibition of MCF-7 cell viability, with IC50 values of 3. 27 ± 0.171 and 4.36 ± 0.219 μg/mL, respectively, after a 72 hour treatment period. Compound A and B did not demonstrate significant cytotoxic effects towards MDA-MB-231, WRL-68 and MCF-10A cells. Acute toxicity tests also revealed an absence of toxic effects on mice. Fluorescent microscopic studies confirmed distinct morphological changes (membrane blebbing and chromosome condensation) corresponding to typical apoptotic features in treated MCF-7 cells. Using Cellomics High Content Screening (HCS), we found that compound A and B could trigger the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria to the cytosol. The release of cytochrome c activated the expression of caspases-9 and then stimulated downstream executioner caspase-3/7. In addition, caspase-8 showed remarkable activity, followed by inhibition of NF-κB activation in A-and B-treated MCF-7 cells. The results indicated that A and B could induce apoptosis via a mechanism that involves either extrinsic or intrinsic pathways.

In Vivo Immunomodulation and Lipid Peroxidation Activities Contributed to Chemoprevention Effects of Fermented Mung Bean against Breast Cancer. Abstract
Mung bean has been reported to have antioxidant, cytotoxic, and immunomodulatory effects in vitro. Fermented products are reported to have enhanced immunomodulation and cancer chemopreventive effects. In this study, fermented mung bean treatments in vivo were studied by monitoring tumor development, spleen immunity, serum cytokine (interleukin 2 and interferon gamma) levels, and spleen/tumor antioxidant levels after injection with low and high risk 4T1 breast cancer cells. Pretreatment with fermented mung bean was associated with delayed tumor formation in low risk mice. Furthermore, this treatment was connected with higher serum anticancer cytokine levels, spleen T cell populations, splenocyte cytotoxicity, and spleen/tumor antioxidant levels. Histopathological evaluation of fermented mung bean treated tumor revealed lower event of mitotic division. On the other hand, antioxidant and nitric oxide levels that were significantly increased in the untreated mice were inhibited in the fermented mung bean treated groups. These results suggested that fermented mung bean has potential cancer chemoprevention effects through the stimulation of immunity, lipid peroxidation, and anti-inflammation.
