Abstract
The holistic approach of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been increasingly being focused on as a potential adjuvant to conventional lung cancer therapies in an attempt at modulating the tumor microenvironment (TME). Covering a diverse range of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and dietary therapy, TCM brings a unique perspective to influencing the TME. Importantly, the study has found the effects of specific TCM compounds, such as cantharidin, boehmenan, shikonin, and salidroside, on lung cancer in the TME. These compounds interact intricately with key apoptotic regulators, oxidative stress pathways, and inflammation-related mechanisms, suggesting their potential role in enhancing conventional therapies. TCM compounds could modulate a variety of cellular and molecular pathways, potentially inhibiting tumor proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. Besides, the practices of TCM alleviate the side effects of conventional treatments and enhance immune function, hence promoting the quality of life among lung cancer patients. In this regard, this review gives a contemporary account of the state of affairs on the part of TCM within the framework of the treatment of lung cancer with reference to its recent developments, and diverse roles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a respiratory condition with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Recent studies have shown that the increasing research on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also plays an important role in COPD. The purpose of this review is to categorize TCM and its active ingredients and to summarize their pharmacological effects. METHODS Articles published up to December 2024 were searched through PubMed, X-MOL, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The keywords included TCM and its combination with COPD, pharmacologic activity, anti-inflammatory effects, pharmacology, as well as in vivo and in vitro studies. KEY FINDINGS Thus far, we have summarized the progress of research on the mechanisms of action of TCM and its active ingredients, such as flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenols, in the treatment of COPD. These mechanisms encompass the reduction of inflammatory responses and lung injury, regulation of the oxidation-antioxidation balance, and modulation of cellular apoptosis and aging, among other effects. CONCLUSION TCM and its active ingredients demonstrate strong anti-COPD properties. This provides a reference for accelerating the development of herbal components for the treatment of COPD and for exploring new potential multi-target therapeutic mechanisms. This will mitigate the geographical limitations of using TCM and enhance its application in future management strategies.

Abstract
Background: As a prominent part of complementary and alternative medicine, Chinese Medicine (CM) has proved its strengths in treating a diverse range of acute and chronic medical conditions and is at present recognized in 196 countries and territories worldwide. In 2012, Australia regulated the CM profession under the National Regulation and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) by legislation and reports quarterly demographic information about individual CM practitioners so to ensure public interest, although research examining the change of CM workforce in Australia has been scarce. Objective: This study aims to investigate the construction of the CM workforce in Australia and more importantly, evaluated its development in the last decade to capture the trajectory and trend in the present period and future potential changes. Methods: Data were sourced from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) annual reports and the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) registration statistics from 2012 to 2023. A descriptive analysis was conducted with demographic variables, including profession, age, and gender, and chi-square tests and linear regression modeling were carried out to assess the variations between regions and across years. Results: The population of CM practitioners in 2022/2023 stagnated with slight decrease to 4,823, in contrast to the increase rate of 2.9% in the whole health care community. The number of young CM registrants (<35 y) shrank by 37.5% from 691 in 2012 to 432 in 2023. In comparison with other health care professions, CM comprises the smallest proportion of the population aged younger than 25 (0.2%) and the largest proportion aged older than 65 years (16.2%), advancing into an aging era. Conclusions: This study indicates a worrying potential decline in CM workforce in Australia, which is likely to be further exacerbated by the lack of new graduates and rise of median age among practitioners. Meanwhile, continued advancement in Western medicine technology and standards requires substantial efforts to increase both a better understanding of CM and demonstration of its efficacy. Furthermore, greater effort is needed to recruit and educate new young CM practitioners in Australia and to broaden the international training pipeline for a sustainable development of CM practice.

Abstract
Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pill (STP) is a composite formula of traditional Chinese medicine that is widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It consists of seven medicinal extracts thereof or materials, including Bufonis venenum, synthetic Moschus, Panax ginseng, Bovis calculus artifactus, Bear bile powder, Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge and synthetic borneol. However, it is considerably difficult to evaluate the quality of STP due to its complex chemical compositions. This paper was designed to explore a comprehensive and systematic method combining fingerprints and chemical identification for quality assessment of STP samples. Twenty batches of STP samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry. Ten common peaks were detected by HPLC fingerprint similarity evaluation system. Meanwhile, 100 compounds belonging to 4 structural characteristics, including 23 bufadienolides, 36 organic acids, 34 saponins and 7 other types, were systematically identified as the basic components in STP. This study could be used for clarifying the multiple bioactive substances and developing a comprehensive quality evaluation method of STP.

Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatments in East Asian traditional medicine (EATM) originate from principles for treating abscesses and carbuncles. Understanding the therapeutic principles of Liu Juan Zi Gui Yi Fang (GYF) is essential for optimizing EATM treatment strategies for IBD, but quantitative analysis is lacking. This study aims to extract quantitative information on therapeutic strategies from GYF and present the EATM conceptual framework for IBD treatment. Oral prescriptions for carbuncles were selected, and their constituent herbs and indications were standardized and tokenized for analysis. An EATM expert group classified prescriptions based on the similarity of herbs and indications. Hierarchical and k-means cluster analyses were performed based on herb similarity. The herb-indication (H-I) network for all prescriptions was constructed. Additionally, H-I subnetworks based on the expert group's classifications and the k-means clustering results were constructed and compared to identify treatment goals and the herbs used for each goal. The results showed that the treatment focused on abscess status, wound healing, and patient's recovery capacity, with 'fever' and 'deficiency' as the main indications addressed by tonifying and anti-inflammatory herbs. The therapeutic principles identified in this study can serve as a foundation for developing future herbal intervention units. Further preclinical and clinical research is needed to validate these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Renal fibrosis is the primary pathway in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) towards end-stage renal failure. The currently used drugs currently are ineffective, and their mechanisms of action remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the nephroprotective effect of Improved-Nephropathy 1 Formula (N1F) in a rat model of unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) and explore the potential mechanisms of N1F-containing serum in treating TGF-ß1-induced human renal tubular epithelial cells (HK-2). METHODS SD rats received 2-week continuous N1F gavage starting on day 2 after UUO. HK-2 cells were pretreated with a P38MAPK inhibitor for 1 h in vitro, followed by induction of the cells with TGF-ß1 and treatment with N1F 48 h later. The chemical composition of N1F was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-Q-Orbitrap high-resolution liquid mass spectrometry. Renal function was assessed by measuring serum creatinine (Scr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and urine protein (Upro) levels. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and Masson's trichrome (Masson) staining were used to evaluate the extent of renal tissue damage and fibrosis. Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence were used to detect the protein levels of relevant indices. The RNA levels of the relevant indices were detected using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). RESULTS We identified 361 chemical components in the water extract of N1F. These chemical components of N1F significantly reduced the area associated with interstitial fibrosis in the kidneys of UUO rats and the levels of serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, and urinary protein. Additionally, N1F decreased the protein levels of FGF23, Wnt1, ß-catenin and p-P38MAPK/P38MAPK, along with the expression of renalfibrosis-associated proteins, α-SMA, FN, Collagen III, and Vimentin in the renal tissues of the UUO rats, while enhancing klotho and DKK1 protein levels. In vitro experiments revealed that inhibition of P38MAPK signaling significantly suppressed the expression of proteins related to the Wnt signaling pathway, with a concomitant decrease in the expression of FGF23 and an increase in the expression of Klotho. Notably, the P38MAPK inhibitor (SB203580) had similar effects to N1F in altering the above-mentioned indices in vitro. CONCLUSIONS N1F may exhibit potential therapeutic efficacy against renal fibrosis by inhibiting the FGF23/P38MAPK/Wnt signaling pathway, consequently inhibiting extracellular matrix deposition due to renal injury.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a widespread disorder, and the worldwide incidence is rapidly increasing. Acupuncture, an intervention out of the spectrum of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has a long tradition as treatment for ED. Nonetheless, a best-practice treatment protocol is currently missing. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis confirmed a huge diversity of acupuncture treatments for ED and concluded that there is an urgent need to standardise acupuncture treatment for ED. Consequently, the authors conducted a Delphi process with the aim to achieve an expert consensus as a basis for the development of a best-practice protocol. METHODS The Delphi process consisted of four rounds of questionnaires with closed and open-ended questions. Eleven acupuncture experts participated. The therapeutic aim was defined as "to achieve an erection sufficient for sexual satisfaction." RESULTS Consensus was achieved on 24 acupoints corresponding to 12 TCM syndromes. The syndromes were KI Yang xu, KI Yin xu, KI Qi xu, Ki and HT not harmonised, LR Qi Stagnation, LR Qi stagnation and Heat, Liver Blood xu, Liver Blood xu and Liver Qi stagnation, Damp-heat sinking to the lower Jiao5, HT and GB Qi xu, SP xu and HT Blood xu, Yin xu. The suggested optimal dose was between 11 and 15 treatments given once or twice a week. CONCLUSION An expert consensus-based, semi-standardised best-practice treatment protocol for the treatment of ED was developed. Moreover, the Delphi process also revealed inconsistencies as to which signs and symptoms constitute a TCM syndrome. Further Delphi studies including a broader range of experts from various acupuncture traditions are needed to establish further agreement. Nonetheless, the best-practice protocol introduced in this study provides a first point of departure for the implementation of a more standardised treatment approach. Moreover, since a recent meta-analysis concluded that more high-quality clinical studies on the topic are needed, this study provides a first standardised acupuncture treatment protocol for ED.

Abstract
The traditional lecture-based learning (LBL) method is facing great challenges due to its low efficiency and single proceeding form. We designed a PRI-E learning mode that combined and modified problem-based, case-based, and evidence-based learning with a step-by-step approach. We evaluated the practical learning outcomes of using the PRI-E mode by comparing it with traditional lecture-based learning in oral and maxillofacial oncology education. "PRI-E" consists of the first letters of the English words Passion, Research, Innovation, and Education, and it means "the best Education". This prospective randomized controlled trial included 40 participants. We evenly divided the participants into the PRI-E (n = 20) and LBL group (n = 20) based on the entrance test scores. The same staff group designed and then taught the learning content with different group measures. The evaluation included the final test scores and questionnaire assessments. Without affecting the examination results, the PRI-E teaching method was more satisfactory and popular with participants in terms of ability development and classroom participation. Enacting the PRI-E teaching method required more time, but this did not affect its popularity among the participants. Compared with the LBL learning mode, the PRI-E learning mode was more organized and efficient in oral and maxillofacial oncology education without affecting academic performance. This model has a high degree of satisfaction, which is conducive to training students' comprehensive ability.

Abstract
MAIN CONCLUSION From a value chain perspective, this paper examines the important factors from the selection of planting areas to storage, which restrict the development of medicinal plants. The purpose of this paper is to provide theoretical basis for the sustainable development of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants have significant economic and medicinal value. Due to the gradual depletion of wild medicinal plant resources, cultivators of medicinal plants must resort to artificial cultivation to cope. However, there are still many problems in the production process of medicinal plants, resulting in decreases in both yield and quality, thus hindering sustainable development. To date, research on the value chain of medicinal plants is still limited. Therefore, this paper analyzes the factors affecting the development of medicinal plants from the perspective of the value chain, including the selection of growing areas to the storage process of medicinal plants, and summarizes the challenges faced in the production process of medicinal plants. The purpose of this paper is to provide theoretical basis for the sustainable development of medicinal plants.

Abstract
Objective: Our study provides an innovative approach to exploring herbal formulas that contribute to the promotion of sustainability and biodiversity conservation. We employ data mining, integrating keyword extraction, association rules, and LSTM-based generative models to analyze classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) texts. We systematically decode classical Chinese medical literature, conduct statistical analyses, and link these historical texts with modern pharmacogenomic references to explore potential alternatives. Methods: We present a novel iterative keyword extraction approach for discerning diverse herbs in historical TCM texts from the Pu-Ji Fang copies. Utilizing association rules, we uncover previously unexplored herb pairs. To bridge classical TCM herbal pairs with modern genetic relationships, we conduct gene-herb searches in PubMed and statistically validate this genetic literature as supporting evidence. We have expanded on the present work by developing a generative language model for suggesting innovative TCM formulations based on textual herb combinations. Results: We collected associations with 7,664 PubMed cross-search entries for gene-herb and 934 for Shenqifuzheng Injection as a positive control. We analyzed 16,384 keyword combinations from Pu-Ji Fang's 426 volumes, employing statistical methods to probe gene-herb associations, focusing on examining differences among the target genes and Pu-Ji Fang herbs. Conclusion: Analyzing Pu-Ji Fang reveals a historical focus on flavor over medicinal aspects in TCM. We extend our work on developing a generative model from classical textual keywords to rapidly produces novel herbal compositions or TCM formulations. This integrated approach enhances our comprehension of TCM by merging ancient text analysis, modern genetic research, and generative modeling.

Abstract
Introduction: Traditional animal- and mineral-based medicines are widely used in the Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia junction zone, a region with diverse ethnic groups and cultures. This study aims to document, conserve, and explore the potential of these medicines for further research and sustainable development of ethnic medicine. Methods: We interviewed 56 informants from different ethnic backgrounds and analyzed their responses quantitatively. Additionally, a comparative analysis with adjacent regions was conducted, providing invaluable contextual insights. Results: The study unveiled a diverse array of traditional medicines in the Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia junction zone. A total of 47 animal-based medicines were identified, ranging from insects and scorpios to distinctive animal organs. Of notable significance was Moschus, emerging as a pivotal traditional Chinese medicine resource. In parallel, 12 mineral-based medicines were cataloged, procured both locally and from "pharmacies". Female informants, frequently local herbal practitioners, demonstrated broader knowledge of medicines. The analysis of 13 villages revealed varying perceptions of medicine importance, underscoring the wealth of traditional knowledge. Specific medicines, such as Feng-Mi and Xie-Zi, were widely used and valued in local healthcare practices for their cultural and medicinal benefits. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of traditional animal- and mineral-based medicines in the Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia junction zone. It highlights the need for preserving and applying these practices in a sustainable manner. It also lays a solid foundation for future research on ethnic medicine, which can contribute to the holistic wellbeing of local communities.

Abstract
Prostate cancer remains the second most common malignancy in men worldwide, is a global health issue, and poses a huge health burden. Precision medicine provides more treatment options for prostate cancer patients, but its popularity, drug resistance, and adverse reactions still need to be focused on. Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) have been widely accepted as an alternative therapy for cancer, with the advantages of multiple targets, multiple pathways, and low toxicity. We searched the experimental research and clinical practice of CHMs for prostate cancer treatment published in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science in the last five years. We found five CHM formulas and six single CHM extracts as well as 12 CHM-derived compounds, which showed induction of apoptosis, autophagy, and cell cycle arrest, suppression of angiogenesis, proliferation, and migration of prostate cancer cells, reversal of drug resistance, and enhancement of anti-tumor immunity. The mechanisms of action include the PI3K/Akt/mTOR, AR, EGFR and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways, which are commonly implicated in the development of prostate cancer. We also summarized the advantages of CHMs in patients with hormone-sensitive and castration-resistant prostate cancer and provided ideas for their further experimental design and application.

Abstract
Active polysaccharides have unique advantages in inhibiting cancer cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis and inducing apoptosis. Yulangsan polysaccharide (YLSPS) is derived from the root of Millettia pulchra var. laxior (Dunn) Z. Wei. Previous studies revealed that YLSPS exhibits bioactivities such as antibacterial, antidepressive, antitumor, hepatoprotective and immunomodulating activities. However, the anticancer effects of YLSPS on lung cancer have not yet been studied, and its mechanism of action remains unclear. The present study investigated the anti-migration/invasion effects of YLSPS and possible mechanisms in lung cancer cells (A549 and Lewis) in vitro and in vivo. The data suggested that YLSPS reversed epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and inhibited the invasion and migration of lung cancer cells by inhibiting the TGF-β1-induced ERK signaling pathway. Furthermore, YLSPS reduced the levels of proteins associated with EMT, including vimentin, but increased those of E-cadherin, as determined by Western blotting. In vivo, YLSPS significantly inhibited the growth of xenograft tumors, and decreased the levels of TGF-β1 and protein markers associated with EMT. Importantly, YLSPS had fewer toxic side effects than cisplatin. Overall, YLSPS significantly delayed non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression by modulating EMT and TGF-β1/ERK signaling pathway. The present findings suggest that YLSPS may be a potential adjuvant therapy and drug for improving the tumor microenvironment of lung cancer.

Abstract
Background Infectious disease is a large burden on public health globally. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has become popular as a new tool for pathogen diagnosis with numerous advantages compared to conventional methods. Recently, research on mNGS increases yearly. However, no bibliometric analysis has systematically presented the full spectrum of this research field. Therefore, we reviewed all the publications associated with this topic and performed this study to analyze the comprehensive status and future hotspots of mNGS for infectious disease diagnosis. Methods The literature was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection and screened without year or language restrictions, and the characteristics of the studies were also identified. The outcomes included publication years, study types, journals, countries, authorship, institutions, frontiers, and hotspots with trends. Statistical analysis and visualization were conducted using VOSviewer (version 1.6.16) and CiteSpace (version 6.1. R3). Results In total, 325 studies were included in the analysis after screening. Studies were published between 2009 and 2022 with a significantly increasing number from 1 to 118. Most of the studies were original articles and case reports. Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology and Clinical Infectious Disease were the most commonly cited and co-cited journals. Institutions and researchers from China contributed the most to this field, followed by those from the USA. The hotspots and frontiers of these studies are pneumonia, tuberculosis, and central nervous system infections. Conclusion This study determined that mNGS is a hot topic in the diagnosis of infectious diseases with development trends and provides insights into researchers, institutions, hotspots and frontiers in mNGS, which can offer references to related researchers and future research.

Abstract
Increasing incidences of insomnia in adults, as well as the aging population, have been reported for their negative impact on the quality of life. Insomnia episodes may be associated with neurocognitive, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal, hepatic, and metabolic disorders. Epidemiological evidence also revealed the association of insomnia with oncologic and asthmatic complications, which has been indicated as bidirectional. Two therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and drugs-based therapies are being practiced for a long time. However, the adverse events associated with drugs limit their wide and long-term application. Further, Traditional Chinese medicine, acupressure, and pulsed magnetic field therapy may also provide therapeutic relief. Notably, the recently introduced cryotherapy has been demonstrated as a potential candidate for insomnia which could reduce pain, by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation. It seems that the synergistic therapeutic approach of cryotherapy and the above-mentioned approaches might offer promising prospects to further improve efficacy and safety. Considering these facts, this perspective presents a comprehensive summary of recent advances in pathological aetiologies of insomnia including COVID-19, and its therapeutic management with a greater emphasis on cryotherapy.

Abstract
Symptom treatments for Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and Long COVID are one of the most critical issues of the pandemic era. In light of the lack of standardized medications for treating COVID-19 symptoms, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has emerged as a potentially viable strategy based on numerous studies and clinical manifestations. Taiwan Chingguan Yihau (NRICM101), a TCM designed based on a medicinal formula with a long history of almost 500 years, has demonstrated its antiviral properties through clinical studies, yet the pharmacogenomic knowledge for this formula remains unclear. The molecular mechanism of NRICM101 was systematically analyzed by using exploratory bioinformatics and pharmacodynamics (PD) approaches. Results showed that there were 434 common interactions found between NRICM101 and COVID-19 related genes/proteins. For the network pharmacology of the NRICM101, the 434 common interacting genes/proteins had the highest associations with the interleukin (IL)-17 signaling pathway in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. Moreover, the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) was found to have the highest association with the 30 most frequently curated NRICM101 chemicals. Disease analyses also revealed that the most relevant diseases with COVID-19 infections were pathology, followed by cancer, digestive system disease, and cardiovascular disease. The 30 most frequently curated human genes and 2 microRNAs identified in this study could also be used as molecular biomarkers or therapeutic options for COVID-19 treatments. In addition, dose-response profiles of NRICM101 doses and IL-6 or TNF-α expressions in cell cultures of murine alveolar macrophages were constructed to provide pharmacodynamic (PD) information of NRICM101. The prevalent use of NRICM101 for standardized treatments to attenuate common residual syndromes or chronic sequelae of COVID-19 were also revealed for post-pandemic future.

Abstract
Introduction: Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a common cardiovascular disease. In China, Xinbao pill (XBP) is widely used as an adjuvant therapy for CHF. However, there is still a lack of high-quality clinical evidence. We designed this multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to critically evaluate the efficacy and safety of XBP as an adjuvant treatment for patients with CHF. Methods and analysis: We will recruit 284 patients with a clinical diagnosis of "heart-kidney yang deficiency syndrome" CHF receiving treatment in six hospitals in China. Patients will be randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, to the treatment or control group using a central randomization system. All patients will receive conventional drug therapy for heart failure combined XBP (Guangdong Xinbao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Guangdong, China) or a placebo. Study physicians, subjects, outcome assessors, and statisticians will be blinded to the group assignment. The primary outcome will be the change in the proportion of patients who show a decrease in serum NT-proBNP of more than 30% after treatment. Secondary outcomes are NYHA class, 6-minute walk distance test, Minnesota Quality of Life Scale score, endpoint events, serum NT-proBNP, echocardiographic parameters, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score. Adverse events will be monitored throughout the trial. Data will be analyzed according to a predetermined statistical analysis plan. Discussion: The results of this study will provide solid evidence of the safety and efficacy of XBP as an alternative and complementary treatment measure for patients with CHF. Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker (ES) is an insect widely used in traditional East Asian medicine known to exhibit clinical effects on various pathological conditions. Overall, ES is a useful medicinal insect that can treat various diseases, including cancer and immune diseases. However, further mechanistic studies based on its therapeutic effects in clinical settings are required. AIM OF THE STUDY We aimed to evaluate the current research landscape and diseases associated with ES to synthesize the clinical value of ES based on the associated diseases and underlying therapeutic mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Embase and PubMed databases were searched for experimental studies that evaluated the therapeutic efficacy or underlying mechanisms of ES until May 2021. The evidence for each study was summarized using a narrative synthesis approach. Studies on extracted or dried whole ES and ES-derived compounds were quantitatively analyzed by year and disease type. Meanwhile, the overall research trend was confirmed for studies on ES-containing prescriptions by visualizing the disease type analysis. RESULTS A total of 151 studies were identified, of which 51 were included in our review. There were 14 studies on extracted or dried whole ES, 15 on ES-derived compounds, and 22 on ES-containing prescriptions. ES was most commonly used for cancer-related diseases, followed by those related to endocrine function and immunity. ES regulates the cell cycle, tumor suppressor genes and proteins, immune-related biomarkers, and antioxidant molecules. CONCLUSIONS Overall, ES is a beneficial medicinal insect that can treat various diseases, including cancer and immune diseases. However, further mechanistic studies based on its therapeutic effects in clinical settings are required.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Psycho-oncology is a cross-disciplinary and collaborative sub-specialty of oncology that focuses on the psychological, behavioral, ethical, and social aspects of cancer in clinical settings. The aim of this bibliometric study was to analyze and characterize the research productivity and trends in psycho-oncology between 1980 and 2021. METHODOLOGY In May 2022, the Scopus® database was searched for psycho-oncology-related publications using predetermined search keywords with specific restrictions. Lotka's law was applied to check the authors' productivity, while Bradford's law was used to assess the core journals in this field. The data was analyzed for different bibliometric indicators in the Biblioshiny package, an RStudio tool for bibliometric analysis. RESULTS The initial search resulted in a total of 2,906 publications. Of which, 1,832 publications were included in the final analysis, published between 1980 and 2021. The analyzed publications were written by 7,363 authors from 74 countries and published in 490 journals. There has been a significant increase in psycho-oncology-related publications after 2010. The most productive year was 2021 (n = 365). The annual scientific growth rate was found to be 13.9%. The most relevant leading author in terms of publications was Luigi Grassi from the University of Ferrara, Italy (n = 42). Lotka's law found that the number of authors declined as the number of papers written increased. The core journals were Psycho-Oncology, Supportive Care in Cancer, and Journal of Psychosocial Oncology. The most frequently used author's keywords other than searching keywords were cancer, oncology, quality of life, depression, and anxiety. Recent psycho-oncology-related topics included mental health, COVID-19 infection in humans, people, pandemic, and tumor. The University of Sydney was the top-ranked institution. The leading country in terms of publications, citations, corresponding author country, and international collaboration was the United States of America (United States). The United States had the strongest collaboration with Australia and Canada. CONCLUSION The research hotspots include mental health conditions and interventions in cancer patients. We identified international collaboration and research expenditure to be strongly associated with psycho-oncology research productivity. Researchers' collaboration, which is visible among developed countries, should be extended to low-income countries in order to expand psycho-oncology-related research and understanding.

Perceived Quality of Traditional Chinese Medicine Care in Community Health Services: A Cross-Sectional Survey in Hangzhou of China. Abstract
Background Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an integral part of the mainstream health care system in China. Public community health services are required by the government to deliver TCM services. This study aimed to assess patient perceived quality of TCM care in community health services. Methods A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted on 471 TCM users in four community health centers in Hangzhou. Respondents were asked to rate their experiences on a Likert scale about tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy of the TCM services they received. Linear regression models were established to determine the sociodemographic and services factors associated with the ratings. Results Average ratings on the five aspects of the TCM care ranged from 78 to 88 out of a possible 100, with assurance attracting the highest and empathy attracting the lowest score. Overall, higher perceived quality of TCM care (except for assurance) was associated with a choice of TCM in preference to western medicine. Those who reported higher cost (≥100 yuan) of TCM care rated higher on responsiveness and empathy of the care. But higher frequency of visits to community TCM services was associated with lower ratings on reliability, assurance and empathy. Those who received two or more TCM modalities also perceived lower tangible care. In addition, higher ratings on reliability and responsiveness were found in women. The respondents with a university qualification gave higher ratings on reliability and responsiveness; by contrast, those with a highest education of senior high school rated lower on assurance and empathy. Lower perceived tangibility and assurance was also associated with rural residency. Compared with those working in the public sector, the respondents from the retail and services sector gave a higher rating on assurance but a lower rating on empathy. Conclusion Overall, the TCM users perceived high quality of TCM care in community health services in Hangzhou. However, there is a need to further improve TCM care from all quality perspectives in order to attract and maintain consumer trust in TCM.

Abstract
Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the health care system developed with the help of clinical trials that are based ideally on the scientific model of regulation. Objective: This systematic health care system relies on some specific unique theories and practical experiences to treat and cure diseases, thus enhancing the public's health. Review Methodology: The current review covers the available literature from 2000 to 2021. The data was collected from journals research articles, published books, thesis, and electronic databases, search engines such as Google Scholar, Elsevier, EBSCO, PMC, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Willey Online Library, Springer Link, and CNKI) searching key terms, cardiovascular disease, traditional Chinese medicines, natural products, and bioactive compounds. Full-length articles and abstracts were screened for the collection of information included in the paper. Results: Clinical trials on the TCM and basic research carried out on its mechanism and nature have led to the application and development of the perfect design of the research techniques, for example, twofold striking in acupuncture that aid in overcoming the limitations and resistances in integrating and applicability of these experiences and trials into the pre-existing biomedical models. Furthermore, TCM has also been utilized from ancient times to treat heart diseases in Asia, particularly in China, and is now used by people in many other areas. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is mainly developed by oxidative stress. Hence antioxidants can be beneficial in treating this particular disease. TCM has a wide variety of antioxidant components. Conclusion: The current review article summarizes the underlying therapeutic property of TCM and its mechanism. It also overviews the evidence of the mechanism of TCM action in CVD prevention by controlling oxidative stress and its signaling pathway.

Abstract
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a complex condition brought on for many reasons, and its prevalence is rising gradually around the world. Xanthii Fructus (XF) has been used in the treatment of CRS for decades and is effective. The chemical and pharmacological profiles of XF, on the other hand, are still unknown and need to be clarified. The potential mechanisms of XF in CRS treatment were investigated using a network pharmacology approach in this study. OB and DL were in charge of screening the bioactive components in XF and drug-likeness. TCMSP and PubChem databases were used to identify prospective XF proteins, whereas GeneCards and the DisGeNET database were used to identify potential CRS genes. An interactive network of XF and CRS is built using the STRING database based on common goals identified by the online tool Venny. Cytoscape was used to visualize the topological characteristics of nodes, while the biological function pathways were identified by GO Knowledge Base, KEGG. There were 26 bioactive components and 115 potential targets in XF that bind to CRS or are considered therapeutically relevant. Five significant signaling pathways have been found for CRS by the pathway analysis including the HIF-1 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, NOD-like receptor signaling pathway, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. We simultaneously confirmed that the PI3K-Akt pathway promotes the development of CRS. Finally, this study took a holistic approach to the pharmacological actions and molecular mechanisms of XF in the treatment of CRS. TNF, INS, CCL2, CXCL8, IL-10, VEGFA, and IL-6 have all been identified as potential targets for anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effects. This network pharmacology prediction could be useful in manifesting the molecular mechanisms of the Chinese herbal compound XF for CRS.

Abstract
Objective The objective of the current study was to analyze the research hotspot of drug treatment for tuberculosis via top literatures. Materials and Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on June 7th, 2021. Literatures were searched on the Web of Science Core Collection to identify the top 50 cited literatures related to drug treatment of tuberculosis. The characteristics of the literatures were identified. The outcomes included authorship, journal, study type, year of publication, and institution. Cooccurrence network analysis and visualization were conducted using the VOS viewer (Version 1.6.16; Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands). Results The top 50 cited literatures were cited 308 to 2689 times and were published between 1982 and 2014. The most studied drugs were the first-line drugs such as isoniazid and rifampicin (n = 22), and drug-resistant tuberculosis was most frequently reported (n = 16). They were published in 18 journals, and the New England Journal of Medicine published the most literatures (n = 18), followed by the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (n = 7), and the Lancet (n = 6). The authors were from 13 countries, and the authors from the USA published most of the literatures (n = 30), while authors from other countries published less than five literatures. The CDC in the USA (n = 4), the World Health Organization (WHO) (n = 3), and the American Philosophical Society (n = 3) were the leading institutions, and only two authors published at least two top-cited literatures as first authors. Conclusions This study provides insights into the development and most important literatures on drug therapy for tuberculosis and evidence for future research on tuberculosis treatment.

Abstract
Stroke is the third most common disease all over the world, which is regarded as a hotspot in medical research because of its high mortality and morbidity. Stroke, especially ischemic stroke, causes severe neural cell death, and no effective therapy is currently available for neuroregeneration after stroke. Although many therapies have been shown to be effective in preclinical studies of ischemic stroke, almost none of them passed clinical trials, and the reasons for most failures have not been well identified. In this review, we focus on several novel methods, such as traditional Chinese medicine, stem cell therapy, and exosomes that have not been used for ischemic stroke till recent decades. We summarize the proposed basic mechanisms underlying these therapies and related clinical results, discussing advantages and current limitations for each therapy emphatically. Based on the limitations such as side effects, narrow therapeutic window, and less accumulation at the injury region, structure transformation and drug combination are subsequently applied, providing a deep understanding to develop effective treatment strategies for ischemic stroke in the near future.

Abstract
With the increasing demand for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Portuguese-speaking countries (PSC), local regulatory systems and relevant legislation are still insufficient and lagging, even blank in some of them. This kind of unbalanced pace either makes users of TCM exposed in potential risk or eventually obstructs the long-term development of TCM in PSC. Despite existing tremendous studies on the internationalization of TCM, there are few studies specific to PSC. Thus, by a comprehensive desk review and typical case study, this article aims to summarize current situation of TCM in PSC by a cross-regional comparison, to identify various critical challenges, and further to provide an insightful reference to impel the development of TCM in PSC.

Abstract
Objectives The over-the-counter (OTC) drug (i.e., non-prescription drugs) market is growing significantly on a global scale. Our study reviews strategies for OTCs, together with other non-pharmaceutical products, such as herbal products, dietary supplements, and other healthcare products. The aim of this study is to analyze the expanded OTC industry to offer possible strategic solutions for existing problems. Materials and Methods We utilized integrated SWOT and Fuzzy Analytic Network Process analyses, together with quantitative analysis covering industry professionals' perspectives. Results Our findings showed that the most suitable market strategies are WO2 (i.e., to use information and digital technologies, including mobile applications and social media, to reduce marketing costs), SO2 (i.e., to promote self-medication/self-care to grow the OTC market and invest in information and communication technologies for this purpose), and ST2 (i.e., to improve health literacy and increase access to accurate and understandable information via alternative channels, such as the internet and social media). These key strategies are closely related to the utilization of digital technologies. Other strategies, such as SO1 (i.e., to encourage pharmacists to provide consulting for OTC products, which carry high profitability) and ST1 (i.e., to undertake stakeholder training programs to ensure production quality and introduce safe use to improve community health), were examined in detail, and their outcomes were interpreted in this study. Conclusion Given the impact of digital transformation, the same strategies can be implemented for other emerging OTC markets. This study underlines the importance of the OTC sector as one of the main drivers for improving community health and reducing health costs.

Abstract
Wild vertebrate populations all over the globe are in decline, with poaching being the second-most-important cause. The high poaching rate of rhinoceros may drive these species into extinction within the coming decades. Some stakeholders argue to lift the ban on international rhino horn trade to potentially benefit rhino conservation, as current interventions appear to be insufficient. We reviewed scientific and grey literature to scrutinize the validity of reasoning behind the potential benefit of legal horn trade for wild rhino populations. We identified four mechanisms through which legal trade would impact wild rhino populations, of which only the increased revenue for rhino farmers could potentially benefit rhino conservation. Conversely, the global demand for rhino horn is likely to increase to a level that cannot be met solely by legal supply. Moreover, corruption is omnipresent in countries along the trade routes, which has the potential to negatively affect rhino conservation. Finally, programmes aimed at reducing rhino horn demand will be counteracted through trade legalization by removing the stigma on consuming rhino horn. Combining these insights and comparing them with criteria for sustainable wildlife farming, we conclude that legalizing rhino horn trade will likely negatively impact the remaining wild rhino populations. To preserve rhino species, we suggest to prioritize reducing corruption within rhino horn trade, increasing the rhino population within well-protected 'safe havens' and implementing educational programmes and law enforcement targeted at rhino horn consumers.

Abstract
There is a growing demand for alternative or complementary medicine in health care disciplines that uses a non-invasive instrument to evaluate the health status of various organs inside the human body. In this regard, we proposed a real-time, non-invasive, and painless technique to assess an individual’s health condition. Our approach is based on the combination of iridology and the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The iridology chart presents perfect symmetry between the left and right eyes, and such a unique representation reveals the body constitution based on TCM philosophy, which classifies the aforementioned body constitution into a combination of nine categories to describe the varieties of genomic traits. In addition, we applied a deep-learning method along with the combination of iridology and TCM to predict the possible physiological or psychological strength or weakness of the subjects and give advice to them about how to take care of their health according to the body constitution assessment. We used several pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs, or ConvNet), such as a residual neural network (ResNet50), InceptionV3, and dense convolutional network (DenseNet201), to classify the body constitution using iris images. In the experiments, the CASIA-Iris-Thousand database was used to perform this task. The experimental results showed that the proposed iris-based health assessment method achieved an 82.9% accuracy.

Abstract
Cortex Lycii, the root barks of Lycium barbarum and L. chinense, known as “di gu pi” in traditional Chinese herbal drugs, is an important ingredient of formulations used for treating a variety of diseases. During the last 3 decades, more than 70 chemical entities have been separated and purified from either the aqueous or aqueous ethyl alcohol extracts of Cortex Lycii. In this study, high-performance liquid chromatography together with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MS) was employed to explore new analog structures from aqueous ethyl alcohol extracts (50%, v/v), which led us to discover 4 new phenolic amides and a new cyclic peptide. The structure-based manual screening method, on the basis of the analysis of the fragmentation pathway of the previously known compounds, was used to make a preliminary analysis of the negative total ion chromatography and negative extract ion spectra. Three ions at m/ z 472.1, 314.1, and 445.2 were assigned to phenolic amides, and by further analysis of their MS/MS data, the structure of 1, corresponding to one of them ( m/ z 314.1), was illustrated as an analog of the known compound KN1. A parent ion at m/ z 856.1 was assigned to a cyclic peptide analog (2) in the manual analysis procedure. Furthermore, the MS/MS data were profiled on the Global Natural Product Social Molecular Networking (GNPS, https://gnps.ucsd.edu/ProteoSAFe/static/gnps-splash.jsp ) workflow to weave a visualization molecular network. Three more new analog ions ( m/ z 604.3 [3], 597.3 [4], and 611.3 [5]) were found in the aggregation of KN5 and KN7, and their structures were all determined by comparisons with known compounds. This manual and networking automatic screening method may provide a sensitive and efficient procedure to facilitate the mining of novel trace components.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Ze-Qi-Tang (ZQT), a classic Chinese herbal formula, has been for over thousand years used for the treatment of several respiratory ailments like cough, asthma, hydrothorax and lung cancer. AIM OF STUDY Cumulative literature on ZQT herbal formula reveals that its several constituent components are potent inducer of apoptosis in different cancer cells. However, the activity of ZQT against non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been previously examined. The aim of the study is to investigate the molecular mechanism of ZQT on NSCLC cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cell growth were determined by CCK-8 and colony formation assay. Induction of cellular apoptosis or arrest of cell cycle were determined by flow cytometric analysis using annexin V/ propidium iodide, Hoechst 33342 or TUNEL staining method. In some assay p53 activity of NSCLC ( A549 and H460) cells were blocked with pifithrin-a, prior to treatment with ZQT. The level of expression of cell cycle and apoptosis related marker proteins were estimated by western blot. The anticancer activity of ZQT in vivo were monitored in nude mice that were induced with tumor by subcutaneous inoculation of A549 cells and then treated by ZQT(100 mg/kg,200 mg/kg,400 mg/kg) gavaging for 30 days. Mice' body weight and tumor volume were measured weekly. The survival carve was recorded. Apoptosis from mice' tissue was observed by TUNEL assay. Pathological histology of liver, kidney and heart were detected by H&E staining, and its functions were tested by ELISA. RESULTS Dose- and time-dependent inhibition of proliferation of NSCLC ( A549 and H460) cells by ZQT therapy along with induction of cell cycle arrest at G0⁄G1 phase were observed. The arrest of cell cycle arrest and inhibition of cellular proliferation were associated with up regulation of p53 along with down regulation of Cyclin B1 and Cdk2 indicating a mitochondrial related induction of apoptosis with ZQT. A reversal of ZQT-induced apoptosis and G0⁄G1 arrest was observed with pifithrin-a pretreatment. ZQT was also found to suppress the progression of tumor growth in mouse xenograft models and prolong survival. In addition, no hepato- or nephro- or cardio-toxicity with ZQT treatment were detected in mice. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that the ZQT formula inhibits the growth of NSCLC cells and is a potential agent of complementary and alternative treatment for lung cancer.
