Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES The aim of this systematic review is to assess the effect of music therapy initiated during neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization on the early neurodevelopment of infants and to evaluate its impact on functional improvements in children with neurological deficits. Numerous studies underscore the benefits of neurological music therapy (NMT) for treating various neurological conditions. METHODS This systematic review (SR) specifically includes randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and draws from a comprehensive search of articles in the Scopus and MEDLINE databases. Eligible studies examined the effects of NMT on infants and children with central nervous system static lesions. Eighteen studies met all inclusion criteria, and the overall quality of the evidence was high. RESULTS However, while NMT appears to be well-tolerated by most neonates and children and holds promise for enhancing functional and physiological development, its impact on specific biomarkers in neurological conditions remains underexplored. Further research is essential to clarify NMT's potential role in rehabilitation and to optimize therapeutic approaches for neurological support.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to evaluate differential effects of an individualized music listening intervention for people living with dementia in institutional care. METHODS Data from 118 people living with dementia, with a mean age of 84.05 years (SD = 7.00 years, 76.3% were female), was used to investigate effects of 6 weeks of listening to individualized music. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group, listening to individualized playlists for 20 min every other day, and a control group, receiving standard care. Effects of the intervention were analyzed by proxy ratings using Goal Attainment Scaling. Different aspects of quality of life were also assessed and analyzed using standardized questionnaires at four assessment points. RESULTS Attainment of individual goals following 6 weeks of individualized music listening was more frequently reported from the nursing staff in the intervention group, compared to the control group (d = .57). There were no effects of listening to individualized music regularly considering questionnaire data on different aspects of quality of life. CONCLUSIONS Using a personalized measure may help to understand the potential of individualized music listening more adequately. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS The results indicate that listening to music can lead to positive but individually different effects. Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of the objectives and outcomes of patient-driven innovations that have been published in the scientific literature, focusing on (A) the unmet needs that patient-driven innovations address and (B) the outcomes for patients and healthcare that have been reported. METHODS We performed an inductive qualitative content analysis of scientific publications that were included in a scoping review of patient-driven innovations, previously published by our research group. The review was limited to English language publications in peer-reviewed journals, published in the years 2008-2020. RESULTS In total, 83 publications covering 21 patient-driven innovations were included in the analysis. Most of the innovations were developed for use on an individual or community level without healthcare involvement. We created three categories of unmet needs that were addressed by these innovations: access to self-care support tools, open sharing of information and knowledge, and patient agency in self-care and healthcare decisions. Eighteen (22%) publications reported outcomes of patient-driven innovations. We created two categories of outcomes: impact on self-care, and impact on peer interaction and healthcare collaboration. CONCLUSIONS The patient-driven innovations illustrated a diversity of innovative approaches to facilitate patients' and informal caregivers' daily lives, interactions with peers and collaborations with healthcare. As our findings indicate, patients and informal caregivers are central stakeholders in driving healthcare development and research forward to meet the needs that matter to patients and informal caregivers. However, only few studies reported on outcomes of patient-driven innovations. To support wider implementation, more evaluation studies are needed, as well as research into regulatory approval processes, dissemination and governance of patient-driven innovations.

Auditory Stimulation Improves Gait and Posture in Cerebral Palsy: A Systematic Review with Between- and Within-Group Meta-Analysis. CHILDREN 2022; 9:children9111752. Abstract
The past decade has seen an increased interest in the implementation of auditory stimulation (AStim) for managing gait and postural deficits in people with cerebral palsy. Although existing reviews report beneficial effects of AStim on the spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters of gait, there are still numerous limitations that need to be addressed to correctly interpret these results. For instance, existing reviews have failed to characterize the effects of AStim by conducting separate between and within-group meta-analyses, these reviews have not evaluated the influence of AStim on postural outcomes, and nor have included several high-quality existing trials. In this study, we conducted between- and within-group meta-analyses to establish a state of evidence for the influence of AStim on gait and postural outcomes in people with cerebral palsy. We searched the literature according to PRISMA-P guidelines across 10 databases. Of 1414 records, 14 studies, including a total of 325 people with cerebral palsy, met the inclusion criterion. We report a significant enhancement in gait speed, stride length, cadence, and gross motor function (standing and walking) outcomes with AStim compared to conventional physiotherapy. The findings from this analysis reveal the beneficial influence of AStim on the spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters of gait and postural stability in people with cerebral palsy. Furthermore, we discuss the futurized implementation of smart wearables that can deliver person-centred AStim rehabilitation in people with cerebral palsy.

Abstract
A total of 16 adults with cerebral palsy (age = 37.50 (7.78)) participated in this cross-sectional study. The electroencephalographic (EEG) data were recorded under three conditions: (1) baseline; (2) while listening to music; (3) while performing inclusive dance choreography with wheelchair. EEG data was banded into theta (4-7 Hz), alpha (8-12 Hz), and beta (13-30 Hz). Significantly higher values of theta, alpha, and beta bands were found in dance conditions than in the baseline. Significant differences between baseline and listening to music conditions were not found in any of the power spectrum bands. Differences between listening to music conditions and inclusive dance with wheelchair were observed in theta and beta power spectrum band studies in the F4 electrode. Inclusive dance with wheelchair increases theta, alpha, and beta power spectra when compared to baseline. In addition, the beta power spectrum is greater only during inclusive dance conditions, which could be modulated by emotions. However, future studies should corroborate this hypothesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common causes of disability in children. It is characterized by impairment in motor function and coordination and difficulties in performing daily life activities. Previous research supports that neurologic music therapy (NMT) was effective in improving motor function, cognition, and emotional wellbeing in patients with various neurologic disorders. However, the benefit of NMT in patients with CP have not yet been thoroughly investigated. The aim of this review was to investigate the potential effect of NMT motor rehabilitation techniques for patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We searched articles published up to May 24, 2022 in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane library, Web of science, and Ovid MEDLINEdatabases. We included studies that investigated the effect of NMT in patients with CP. RESULTS After search, 4,117 articles were identified using the search terms. After reading the titles and abstracts, 4,089 articles that did not meet our inclusion criteria were excluded. The remaining 28 articles which were assessed for eligibility. Finally, 15 studies were included in this systematic review. Among 15 studies that investigated the effect of NMT on patients with CP, 7 studies were on rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS), 6 studies were on therapeutic instrumental music performance (TIMP), and 2 studies were on patterned sensory enhancement (PSE). CONCLUSIONS Various techniques of NMT brings beneficial effects for gross and fine motor improvements in patients with CP. NMT techniques, such as RAS, TIMP, and PSE, may be a potential alternative rehabilitation strategy to enhance gross and fine motor skills for patients with CP.

Abstract
Music is an art form that strongly affects people and can elicit many different emotions at the same time, including happiness, anxiety, sadness, and even ecstasy. What is it about music that causes such a strong reaction from each of us? Music engages many senses, which in turn can produce a multiplicity of responses and help create more extensive neuronal connections, as well as influence behaviour through structural and functional changes in the brain. Music-based interventions as a therapeutic tool in rehabilitation are becoming more common. It is said that the impact of music on the human body is positive. However, what impact does music have on the young nervous system, especially the affected one? This review presents the advantages and disadvantages of the use of music in paediatric neurology to treat dyslexia, cerebral palsy, and stroke, among others. Potential negative impacts such as musicogenic epilepsy and hallucinations will be discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Awareness of patients' innovative capabilities is increasing, but there is limited knowledge regarding the extent and nature of patient-driven innovations in the peer-reviewed literature. OBJECTIVES The objective of the review was to answer the question: what is the nature and extent of patient-driven innovations published in peer-reviewed scientific journals? ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA We used a broad definition of innovation to allow for a comprehensive review of different types of innovations and a narrow definition of 'patient driven' to focus on the role of patients and/or family caregivers. The search was limited to years 2008-2020. SOURCES OF EVIDENCE Four electronic databases (Medline (Ovid), Web of Science Core Collection, PsycINFO (Ovid) and Cinahl (Ebsco)) were searched in December 2020 for publications describing patient-driven innovations and complemented with snowball strategies. CHARTING METHODS Data from the included articles were extracted and categorised inductively. RESULTS A total of 96 articles on 20 patient-driven innovations were included. The number of publications increased over time, with 69% of the articles published between 2016 and 2020. Author affiliations were exclusively in high income countries with 56% of first authors in North America and 36% in European countries. Among the 20 innovations reported, 'Do-It-Yourself Artificial Pancreas System' and the online health network 'PatientsLikeMe', were the subject of half of the articles. CONCLUSIONS Peer-reviewed publications on patient-driven innovations are increasing and we see an important opportunity for researchers and clinicians to support patient innovators' research while being mindful of taking over the work of the innovators themselves.

Abstract
Objective: This review aimed to investigate the effects of music therapy on
functional ability in people with cerebral palsy. Materials and Methods: An electronic search of the CENTRAL, MEDLINE, and
EMBASE databases was conducted. Randomized controlled trials that examined the effects of
music therapy in patients with cerebral palsy were included. Results: Eight trials were eligible for inclusion in this study. We found a
low risk of bias in random sequence generation and allocation concealment in all trials.
The risk of bias in blinding of the outcome assessment was low in all studies. We found
that music therapy had a significant effect on the Gross Motor Function Measure score
(standardized mean difference [SMD] −0.42), Functional Independence Measure for Children
score (SMD 0.38), and Goal Attainment Scale score (SMD −1.43). Music therapy had no
significant effect on any of the other items. Conclusion: There is limited evidence that music therapy improves gross
motor function and activities of daily living in patients with cerebral palsy. However,
this was insufficient to allow for generalizable conclusions. Further studies with larger
sample sizes are required to confirm the effects of music therapy in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Particular factors before and after delivery can cause neurological damage to the fetus or newborn. Rougan Tongdu Tuina combined with point-pressing massage therapy (RTPM) can effectively stimulate the meridians and acupoints, and achieve the therapeutic effects of refreshing, resuscitating, and strengthening the brain and improving cognition. In this study, RTPM was used in the neonatal period, and quality evaluation results of general movements (GMs) were used to monitor the effect of this method on neurodevelopmental outcomes of children. METHODS Children who were born in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from 1 March 2017 to 29 February 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. All newborns were assessed for the quality of GMs. Children in the RTPM group received RTPM, and the control group received conventional massage and point-pressing. A 20-day period constituted a round of treatment, each round was 20 days apart, and there were 3 rounds in total. The study participants received regular outpatient follow-ups, and clinical neurological examinations and Gesell development scales (GDS) assessment results were used to determine the outcome of motor development. RESULTS A total of 96 newborns with abnormal GMs were retrospectively included, including 57 (59.4%) males and 39 (40.6%) females. There were 83 cases (86.5%) of premature infants and 85 cases (88.5%) of low birthweight infants, respectively. The Apgar score at 1 min after birth was rated 3-10 points, with an average of 7.4 points. The evaluation of GMs revealed that the indicators in the RTPM group were significantly better than those in the control group, and the number of children with abnormal GMs after each round of treatment was significantly reduced compared with the control group. At 6 months, the GDS score of the RTPM group was better than that in the control group. After the intervention, the total effective rate of the RTPM group was 92.2%, which was significantly higher than the 75.6% of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The application of RTPM in the neonatal period can significantly improve the neurodevelopment of children.

Abstract
Cerebral palsy (CP) treatment includes physical therapy and various complementary therapies to the standard clinical treatment. However, there are not many reviews that focus on the methods used and evaluation procedures. This study aims to analyze which tools are most suitable for the evaluation and methodology of patients with CP treated with physical therapy. Following the PRISMA statement, through a PICOS strategy, PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, Science Direct, and Scielo were searched with the following terms: cerebral palsy AND (physical therapy modalities OR therapeutics) AND outcome assessment. The methodological quality of the RCTs was assessed with the Evidence Project risk of bias tool. Thirty-seven RCTs and six RCT protocols, comprising 1359 participants with different types of CP: spastic hemiplegia/paresis, spastic diplegia/paresis, and spastic CP, met the inclusion criteria, uncovering 21 variables measured through 77 different instruments and several interventions. The therapies most widely used in CP are gaming or technology-assisted therapies, aerobic training, hippotherapy, music therapy, gait training, and aquatic exercises. This study provides an overview of what the authors used in the neurorehabilitation field through procedure evaluation and checking the technological advance that began to be used.

Abstract
Background: Impaired selective voluntary motor control is defined as “the reduced ability to isolate the activation of muscles in response to demands of a voluntary posture or movement.” It is a negative motor sign of an upper motor neuron lesion. Objective: This paper reviews interventions that may improve selective motor control in children and youths with spastic cerebral palsy. The aim was to systematically evaluate the methodological quality and formulate the level of evidence from controlled studies. Methods: Six databases (Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and CINAHL) were searched with predefined search terms for population, interventions, and outcomes. Two reviewers independently completed study selection and ratings of methodological quality and risk of bias. Evidence was summarized in a best evidence synthesis. Results: Twenty-three studies from initially 2,634 papers were included. The interventions showed a wide variety of approaches, such as constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), electrical stimulation, robot-assisted therapy, and functional training. The evidence synthesis revealed conflicting evidence for CIMT, robot-assisted rehabilitation and mirror therapy for the upper extremities in children with cerebral palsy. Conclusions: Final recommendations are difficult due to heterogeneity of the reviewed studies. Studies that include both an intervention and an outcome that specifically focus on selective voluntary motor control are needed to determine the most effective therapy.

Abstract
Background As music listening is able to induce self-perceived and physiological signs of relaxation, it might be an interesting tool to induce muscle relaxation in patients with hypertonia. To this date effective non-pharmacological rehabilitation strategies to treat hypertonia in neurologically impaired patients are lacking. Therefore the aim is to investigate the effectiveness of music listening on muscle activity and relaxation. Methodology The search strategy was performed by the PRISMA guidelines and registered in the PROSPERO database (no. 42019128511). Seven databases were systematically searched until March 2019. Six of the 1,684 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in this review. Risk of bias was assessed by the PEDro scale. In total 171 patients with a variety of neurological conditions were included assessing hypertonia with both clinicall and biomechanical measures. Results The analysis showed that there was a large treatment effect of music listening on muscle performance (SMD 0.96, 95% CI [0.29–1.63], I2 = 10%, Z = 2.82, p = 0.005). Music can be used as either background music during rehabilitation (dual-task) or during rest (single-task) and musical preferences seem to play a major role in the observed treatment effect. Conclusions Although music listening is able to induce muscle relaxation, several gaps in the available literature were acknowledged. Future research is in need of an accurate and objective assessment of hypertonia.
