Abstract
INTRODUCTION Stakeholder preference evaluations are increasingly emphasized in healthcare policy and health technology assessment. Discrete choice experiments (DCEs) are the most common method for quantifying preferences among patients, the public, and healthcare professionals. While prior reviews (1990-2017) have examined DCE trends, no comprehensive synthesis exists for studies published since 2018. This updated review (2018-2023) provides critical insights into evolving methodologies and global trends in health-related DCEs. METHODS A systematic search (2018-2023) of Medline, Embase, and Web of Science identified relevant studies. Studies were screened for inclusion and data were extracted, including details on DCE design and analysis. To enable trend comparisons, the search strategy and extraction items aligned with previous reviews. RESULTS Of 2663 identified papers, 1279 met the inclusion criteria, reflecting a significant rise in published DCEs over time. DCEs were conducted globally, with a remarkable increase in publications from Asia and Africa compared with previous reviews. Experimental designs and econometric models have advanced, continuing prior trends. Notably, most recent DCEs were administered online. DISCUSSION The rapid growth of DCE applications underscores their importance in health research. While the methodology is advancing rapidly, it is crucial that researchers provide full transparency in reporting their methods, particularly in detailing experimental designs and validity tests, which are too often overlooked. Key recommendations include improving reporting of experimental designs, applying validity tests, following good practices for presenting benefit-risk attributes, and adopting open science practices. Ensuring methodological rigor will maximize the impact and reproducibility of DCE research in health economics.

Abstract
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) graduates during the first year after birth is unknown. Gaining more insight into parental perspectives on HRQoL in this group may aid healthcare professionals in follow-up care. We aimed to assess HRQoL of NICU graduates during their first year after birth from a parental perspective using the newly developed Infant Quality of Life Instrument mobile application questionnaire. This was a prospective cohort study including NICU graduates of all gestational ages (N = 108). We assessed which of seven HRQoL domains, Sleeping, Feeding, Breathing, Stooling, Mood, Skin, and Interaction, proved most problematic during infants' first year after birth and whether there were differences between the gestational age groups. The three domains proving most problematic from the parents' perspective were Feeding (ranging from 14% to 43%), Sleeping (ranging from 23% to 42%), and Interaction (decreasing from 86% to 19%). The trajectories of extremely preterm infants were more frequently problematic than those of other groups. Healthcare professionals should focus on these most problematic domains in their follow-up care.

Abstract
Background Assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) is impaired by limitations of current patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). We developed the first cardiovascular disease (CVD) specific electronic PROM for which health items were derived by a fully patient-centered method. This paper reports on the measurement of HRQoL in CVD patients by a novel developed electronic patient-centred PROM based on a preference-based measurement model. Methods and results In an earlier patient-based study nine health items were selected as most important to CVD patients. These items were assessed in the novel preference-based PROM of this study. CVD patients registered with a Dutch patient organization were asked to rate their health state. We compared HRQoL between subgroups of age, gender and CVD. A total of 554 patients participated in this study. The patient reported health items "worry", "self-reliance" and "sexuality" had the highest impact on HRQoL of CVD patients. Median HRQoL was better for men compared to woman (-17.04, IQR: 31.47 to -3.91 vs. -25.22; IQR: 42.06 to -9.53, p = 0.003). Best and worst HRQoL were observed in patients with an unknown or other CVD disease (-15.61, IQR: 28.52 to -3.91) followed by individuals with coronary artery disease (-16.99, IQR: 38.08 - 0.00) and heart failure (-24.27, IQR: 42.64 to -12.98). Conclusions This novel patient-centred, preference-based, CVD-specific PROM accurately measures HRQoL by taking individual health preferences into account and tackling limitations of current PROMs. This PROM is therefore promising to evaluate interventions and optimize personalized therapies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess the practicality, validity, and responsiveness of the proxy Child Health Utility-9 Dimensions (CHU9D) in children aged 2 to 5 years. METHODS We used data from the Barrier Enhancement for Eczema Prevention trial, a UK randomized controlled trial testing whether daily emollients in infancy could prevent eczema in high-risk infants. The main parent/carer completed the proxy CHU9D using developers' additional guidance for completion in those younger than 5 years and the Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) at ages 2, 3, 4, and 5 years. Practicality was assessed by completion rates. Construct validity assessed whether CHU9D could discriminate between those with/without eczema and between eczema severity levels on POEM. Responsiveness was determined by ability to discriminate between 3 groups: (1) those whose POEM score deteriorated ≥3 points, (2) those whose change was not clinically important (-2.9 to 2.9 points), and (3) those whose POEM score improved ≥3 points. Analysis was conducted in Stata 17. RESULTS Of 1394 children participating in the Barrier Enhancement for Eczema Prevention trial, study questionnaires were completed by 1212 (87%), 981 (70%), 990 (71%), and 976 (70%) at 2, 3, 4, and 5 years. Of these the CHU9D was completed by 1066 (88.0%), 685 (69.8%), 925 (93.4%), and 923 (94.6%), respectively. Mean utility at all time points was approximately 0.934 (range 0.443-1). For construct validity, very small differences in the CHU9D between known groups were observed (P < .01). A total of 801 participants had responsiveness data: 13% deteriorated, 72% had nonclinically important change, and 15% improved. Mean utility change (standardized response mean) for these groups was -0.0198 (0.21), 0.0041 (0.05), and 0.0175 (0.21) showing small change and small responsiveness. CONCLUSIONS Proxy CHU9D in 2- to 5-year-old children shows potential but further research is needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We have developed a new patient-centered, preference-based generic health-outcome measure, Château-Santé Base (CS-Base), which is based on a novel multiattribute preference response (MAPR) measurement framework. This study aimed to generate a first utility set for the CS-Base, making it suitable for use in health-economic evaluations. METHODS CS-Base comprises 12 health attributes: mobility, vision, hearing, cognition, mood, anxiety, pain, fatigue, social functioning, daily activities, self-esteem, and independence, each with 4 levels. Our methodology to generate utilities for the CS-Base was 2-fold. First, we derived coefficients from patient MAPR data to calculate CS-Base values. Subsequently, these were normalized to a 0.0 to 1.0 utility scale, in which 0.0 signifies dead. The dead position was estimated using general population data from a discrete choice experiment (discrete choice experiment + dead), using a division-value strategy, which localize the position of states better or worse than dead. RESULTS We analyzed MAPR data from 3222 patients and discrete choice experiment + dead data from 1995 respondents. All MAPR coefficients were negative, logically ordered, and significantly different from the reference level. The dead position was denoted by a division value of -148.385. Utility values spanned from -0.071 to 1.0, and only 53 of 16 777 216 states were deemed worse than dead. CONCLUSIONS This study introduced the first CS-Base utility set, underlining a 2-step utility derivation method. This method, blending societal and patient views, surpasses traditional preference-based approaches, yielding firmer results. However, improvement of the normalization procedure is expected. Estimating CS-Base utilities is an ongoing process that gains precision over time.

Abstract
Background Neonates with suspected sepsis are commonly treated with gentamicin, an aminoglycoside. These antibiotics are associated with high risk of ototoxicity, including profound bilateral deafness, in people with the m.1555A>G mitochondrial genetic variant. Objective This early value assessment summarised and critically assessed the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit for identifying the gene m.1555A>G variant in neonates and mothers of neonates needing antibiotics or anticipated to need antibiotics. Following feedback from the scoping workshop and specialist assessment subgroup meeting, we also considered the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit for identifying the m.1555A>G variant in mothers prior to giving birth. Data sources For clinical effectiveness, we searched three major databases in October 2022: MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature). For cost-effectiveness, in addition to the three mentioned databases we searched Cochrane and RePEc-IDEAS. Study selection Study selection and risk-of-bias assessment were conducted by two independent reviewers (Ryan PW Kenny and Akvile Stoniute for clinical effectiveness and Hosein Shabaninejad and Tomos Robinson for cost-effectiveness). Any differences were resolved through discussion, or by a third reviewer (Nick Meader). Study appraisal Risk of bias was assessed using Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2. One study (n = 751 neonates recruited) was included in the clinical effectiveness review and no studies were included in the cost-effectiveness review. All except one outcome (test failure rate: low risk of bias) were rated as being at moderate risk of bias. The study reported accuracy of the test (sensitivity 100%, 95% confidence interval 29.2% to 100%; specificity 99.2%, 95% confidence interval 98% to 99.7%), number of neonates successfully tested (n = 424/526 admissions), test failure rate (17.1%, although this was reduced to 5.7%), impact on antibiotic use (all those with a m.1555A>G genotype avoided aminoglycosides), time taken to obtain a sample (6 minutes), time to genotyping (26 minutes), time to antibiotic treatment (55.18 minutes) and the number of neonates with m.1555A>G (n = 3). Limitations The economic component of this work identified key evidence gaps for which further data are required before a robust economic evaluation can be conducted. These include the sensitivity of the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit for identifying the gene m.1555A>G variant in neonates, the magnitude of risk for aminoglycoside-induced hearing loss in neonates with m.1555A>G, and the prevalence of the m.1555A>G variant. Other potentially important gaps include how data regarding maternal inheritance may potentially be used in the clinical pathway. Conclusions This early value assessment suggests that the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit has the potential to identify the m.1555A>G variant and to be cost-effective. The Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit dominates the current standard of care over the lifetime, as it is less costly and more effective. For a 50-year time horizon, the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit was also the dominant strategy. For a 10-year time horizon, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was estimated to be £103 per quality-adjusted life-year gained. Nevertheless, as anticipated, there is insufficient evidence to conduct a full diagnostic assessment of the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit in neonates directly or in their mothers. This report includes a list of research priorities to reduce the uncertainty around this early value assessment and to provide the additional data needed to inform a full diagnostic assessment, including cost-effectiveness modelling. Abstract
OBJECTIVE We compared two generic, preference-based health-outcome measures: the novel patient-centered Château-Santé Base (CS-Base), entailing a multi-attribute preference response framework, and the widely used EQ-5D-5L, regarding effects of different measurement frameworks and different descriptive systems. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study using a random sample of patients (3019 reached, 1988 included) in the USA with various health conditions. The CS-Base (12 attributes, each with four levels), EQ-5D-5L and the 5D-4L (an ad hoc, multi-attribute preference response-based measure that includes five attributes similar to the EQ-5D-5L, but with four levels) were used as health-outcome measures. We compared the proportions of problems reported on health attributes, statistical robustness and face validity of coefficients, attribute importance, differentiation between health states based on health-state values obtained with these measures, and user experience. RESULTS All the CS-Base and 5D-4L coefficients had logical orders and significant differences from the reference level (p < 0.001). Substantial differences were observed in the CS-Base and 5D-4L coefficients between all levels on all attributes, while subtle differences were seen in those of the EQ-5D-5L. Attribute importance of usual (daily) activities were lowest or second lowest in all the three health-outcome measures. Attributes with the highest importance in the CS-Base, 5D-4L, and EQ-5D-5L were respectively mobility, anxiety/depression, and pain/discomfort. Four attributes are similar between the CS-Base and EQ-5D-5L, eight are exclusive to CS-Base. Of the eight, vision and hearing had the highest importance. Health-state values showed a smoother distribution with minimal discontinuity in the CS-Base and EQ-5D-5L than in the 5D-4L. In user experience evaluation, both CS-Base and the 5D-4L showed mean scores above 50 (indicating positive evaluation) in terms of the description of health and ease of understanding. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that CS-Base and 5D-4L, which are grounded in the multi-attribute preference response framework, produced statistically robust coefficients, with better face validity than those for the EQ-5D-5L. CS-Base and the EQ-5D-5L outperformed the 5D-4L in differentiating between health states. Notwithstanding differences in content, measurement frameworks, and estimated coefficients, the computed health-state values were similar between CS-Base and EQ-5D-5L.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We recently developed a novel, preference-based method (Better-Worse, BW) for measuring health status, expressed as a single metric value. We have since expanded it by developing the Drop-Down (DD) method. This article presents a head-to-head comparison of these two methods. We explored user feasibility, interpretability and statistics of the estimated coefficients, and distribution of the computed health-state values. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional online survey among patients with various diseases in the USA. The BW and DD methods were applied in the two arms of the study, albeit in reverse order. In both arms, patients first performed a descriptive task (Task 1) to rate their own health status according to the 12 items (each with 4 levels) in the CS-Base health-outcome instrument. They then performed Task 2, in which they expressed preferences for health states by the two methods. We then estimated coefficients for all levels of each item using logistic regression and used these to compute values for health states. RESULTS Our total sample comprised 1,972 patients. Completion time was < 2 min for both methods. Both methods were scored as easy to perform. All DD coefficients were highly significant from the reference level (P < 0.001). For BW, however, only the second-level coefficient of "Cognition" was significantly different (P = 0.026). All DD coefficients were more precise with narrower confidence intervals than those of the BW method. CONCLUSIONS Both the BW and DD are novel methods that are easy to apply. The DD method outperformed the BW method in terms of the precision of produced coefficients. Due to its task, it is free from a specific distorting factor that was observed for the BW method.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the costs, quality of life, and user experiences associated with upper limb prosthesis use, and to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of multi-grip compared to standard myoelectric hand prostheses (MHPs/SHPs). MATERIALS AND METHODS The EQ-5D-5L to assess the quality of life, the patient-reported outcome measure to assess the preferred usage features of upper limb prosthesis (PUF-ULP), and a cost questionnaire (societal perspective) were completed by 242 prosthesis users (57% men; mean age = 58 years). Incremental cost-utility and cost-effectiveness ratios (ICUR/ICER) with respectively the EQ-5D-5L and PUF-ULP were calculated to compare MHPs with SHPs. Statistical uncertainty was estimated using bootstrapping. Netherlands Trial Registry number: NL7682. RESULTS The mean yearly total costs related to prosthesis use of MHPs (€54 112) and SHPs (€23 501) were higher compared to prostheses with tools/accessories (€11 977), body-powered (€11 298), and cosmetic/passive prostheses (€10 132). EQ-5D-5L and PUF-ULP scores did not differ between prosthesis types. ICUR was €-728 833 per quality-adjusted life year; ICER was €-187 798 per PUF-ULP point gained. CONCLUSIONS Myoelectric prostheses, especially MHPs, were most expensive compared to other prostheses, while no differences in quality of life and user experiences were apparent. MHPs were not cost-effective compared to SHPs. When prescribing MHPs, careful consideration of advantages over SHPs is recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Few preference-weighted health-related quality-of-life measures exist for children under 5 years of age. Young children are substantial consumers of healthcare services. This project aims to assess EQ-5D-Y-3L's appropriateness in children aged 2 to 4 years and to coproduce with parents a suitable adaptation. METHODS Purposive sampling at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Royal Children's Hospital was used to recruit parents or carers of children aged 2 to 4 years in Australia. Online focus groups were conducted consisting of 13 parents of healthy children, and 6 parents of children with moderate to severe health conditions. Parents provided feedback on each dimension of the proxy EQ-5D-Y-3L. Recordings were transcribed and thematic analysis was conducted. Qualitative findings guided the design of adaptations to the instrument. The adaptations were piloted to obtain feedback and refined to improve language translatability and comparability with other EuroQol instruments. RESULTS The adapted EQ-5D-Y-3L was considered generally acceptable by the parents. Parents provided a wide range of examples of how each domain related to their children, with varied examples provided across ages 2 to 4 years and health status. Additional or alternative wording was suggested by parents to improve the applicability of the instrument to this age group. One example of this was the change of the domain wording "walking about" to "movement"-ID5:"In this age group, movement is more important than walking." CONCLUSIONS The adapted EQ-5D-Y-3L has improved relevance for 2-4-year olds and appears easy to complete. Further testing of the adapted instrument is required to evaluate acceptability, reliability, and validity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE An instrument for measuring intervention preferences applicable to both patients and policymakers would make it possible to better confront the needs of the supply and demand sides of the health care system. This study aimed to develop a discrete choice experiments (DCE) questionnaire to elicit the preferences of patients and policymakers. The instrument was specifically developed to estimate preferences for new conditions to be added to a screening program for fetal chromosomal anomalies. METHODS A DCE development study was conducted. The methods employed included a literature review, a qualitative study (based on individual semi-structured interviews, consultations, and a focus group discussion) with pregnant women and policymakers, and a pilot project with 33 pregnant women to validate the first version of the instrument and test the feasibility of its administration. RESULTS An initial list of 10 attributes was built based on a literature review and the qualitative research components of the study. Five attributes were built based on the responses provided by the participants from both groups. Eight attributes were consensually retained. A pilot project performed on 33 pregnant women led to a final instrument containing seven attributes: 'conditions to be screened', 'test performance', 'moment at gestational age to obtain the test result', 'degree of test result certainty to the severity of the disability', 'test sufficiency', 'information provided from test result', and 'cost related to the test'. CONCLUSION It is possible to reach a consensus on the construction of a DCE instrument intended to be administered to pregnant women and policymakers. However, complete validation of the consensual instrument is limited because there are too few voting members of health technology assessment agencies committees to statistically ascertain the relevance of the attributes and their levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Discrete choice experiments (DCEs) are increasingly used in health state valuation studies. OBJECTIVE This systematic review updates the progress and new findings of DCE studies in the health state valuation, covering the period since the review of June 2018 to November 2022. The review reports the methods that are currently being used in DCE studies to value health and study design characteristics, and, for the first time, reviews DCE health state valuation studies published in the Chinese language. METHODS English language databases PubMed and Cochrane, and Chinese language databases Wanfang and CNKI were searched using the self-developed search terms. Health state valuation or methodology study papers were included if the study used DCE data to generate a value set for a preference-based measure. Key information extracted included DCE study design strategies applied, methods for anchoring the latent coefficient on to a 0-1 QALY scale and data analysis methods. RESULTS Sixty-five studies were included; one Chinese language publication and 64 English language publications. The number of health state valuation studies using DCE has rapidly increased in recent years and these have been conducted in more countries than prior to 2018. Wide usage of DCE with duration attributes, D-efficient design and models accounting for heterogeneity has continued in recent years. Although more methodological consensus has been found than in studies conducted prior to 2018, this consensus may be driven by valuation studies for common measures with an international protocol (the 'model' valuation research). Valuing long measures with well-being attributes attracted attention and more realistic design strategies (e.g., inconstant time preference, efficient design and implausible states design) were identified. However, more qualitative and quantitative methodology study is still necessary to evaluate the effect of those new methods. CONCLUSIONS The use of DCEs in health state valuation continues to grow dramatically and the methodology progress makes the method more reliable and pragmatic. However, study design is driven by international protocols and method selection is not always justified. There is no gold standard for DCE design, presentation format or anchoring method. More qualitative and quantitative methodology study is recommended to evaluate the effect of new methods before researchers make methodology decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes a considerable disease burden in young children globally, but reliable estimates of RSV-related costs and health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the RSV-associated costs and HRQoL effects in infants and their caregivers in four European countries. METHODS Healthy term-born infants were recruited at birth and actively followed up in four European countries. Symptomatic infants were systematically tested for RSV. Caregivers recorded the daily HRQoL of their child and themselves, measured by a modified EQ-5D with Visual Analogue Scale, for 14 consecutive days or until symptoms resolved. At the end of each RSV episode, caregivers reported healthcare resource use and work absenteeism. Direct medical costs per RSV episode were estimated from a healthcare payer's perspective and indirect costs were estimated from a societal perspective. Means and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of direct medical costs, total costs (direct costs + productivity loss) and quality-adjusted life-day (QALD) loss per RSV episode were estimated per RSV episode, as well as per subgroup (medical attendance, country). RESULTS Our cohort of 1041 infants experienced 265 RSV episodes with a mean symptom duration of 12.5 days. The mean (95% CI) cost per RSV episode was €399.5 (242.3, 584.2) and €494.3 (317.7, 696.1) from the healthcare payer's and societal perspective, respectively. The mean QALD loss per RSV episode of 1.9 (1.7, 2.1) was independent of medical attendance (in contrast to costs, which also differed by country). Caregiver and infant HRQoL evolved similarly. CONCLUSION This study fills essential gaps for future economic evaluations by prospectively estimating direct and indirect costs and HRQoL effects on healthy term infants and caregivers separately, for both medically attended (MA) and non-MA laboratory-confirmed RSV episodes. We generally observed greater HRQoL losses than in previous studies which used non-community and/or non-prospective designs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The EuroQol Group is exploring the development of a health-related quality of life measure for toddlers and infant populations (EuroQoL Toddler and Infant Populations [EQ-TIPS]) aged 0 to 36 months. This study aimed to report on the cross-cultural adaptation and validity of the South African Afrikaans EQ-TIPS. METHODS The development of the Afrikaans EQ-TIPS followed the EuroQol guidelines including forward-backward translation and cognitive interviews with 10 caregivers of children aged 0 to 36 months. Thereafter, 162 caregivers of children 0 to 36 months of age were recruited from a pediatric hospital inpatient and outpatient facility. The EQ-TIPS; Ages and Stages Questionnaire; face, legs, activity, cry, and consolability; and dietary information were completed by all caregivers. The distribution of dimension scores, Spearman's correlation, analysis of variance, and regression analysis were used to explore the validity of the EQ-TIPS. RESULTS The descriptive system of the EQ-TIPS was generally well understood and accepted by caregivers. The correlation coefficients for concurrent validity were significant and moderate for pain and weak and significant for the other dimensions hypothesized to correlate. Known groups were compared and inpatients had a significantly higher report of pain (χ2 = 7.47, P = .024) and more problems reported across all EQ-TIPS dimensions (recorded on the level sum score) (Kruskal Wallis H = 3.809, P = .05) and reported significantly worse health on the visual analog scale (Kruskal Wallis H = 15.387, P < .001). There were no age-related differences except for a lower report of problems with movement in the 0- to 12-month group (χ2 = 10.57, P = .032). CONCLUSION The Afrikaans version of the EQ-TIPS is well understood and accepted by caregivers and valid for use with children aged 0 to 36 months in South Africa.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Multi-grip myoelectric hand prostheses (MHPs), with five movable and jointed fingers, have been developed to increase functionality. However, literature comparing MHPs with standard myoelectric hand prostheses (SHPs) is limited and inconclusive. To establish whether MHPs increase functionality, we compared MHPs with SHPs on all categories of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health-model (ICF-model). METHODS MHP users (N = 14, 64.3% male, mean age = 48.6 years) performed physical measurements (i.e., Refined Clothespin Relocation Test (RCRT), Tray-test, Box and Blocks Test, Southampton Hand Assessment Procedure) with their MHP and an SHP to compare the joint angle coordination and functionality related to the ICF-categories 'Body Function' and 'Activities' (within-group comparisons). SHP users (N = 19, 68.4% male, mean age = 58.1 years) and MHP users completed questionnaires/scales (i.e., Orthotics and Prosthetics Users' Survey-The Upper Extremity Functional Status Survey /OPUS-UEFS, Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales for upper extremity/TAPES-Upper, Research and Development-36/RAND-36, EQ-5D-5L, visual analogue scale/VAS, the Dutch version of the Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with assistive technology/D-Quest, patient-reported outcome measure to assess the preferred usage features of upper limb prostheses/PUF-ULP) to compare user experiences and quality of life in the ICF-categories 'Activities', 'Participation', and 'Environmental Factors' (between-group comparisons). RESULTS 'Body Function' and 'Activities': nearly all users of MHPs had similar joint angle coordination patterns with an MHP as when they used an SHP. The RCRT in the upward direction was performed slower in the MHP condition compared to the SHP condition. No other differences in functionality were found. 'Participation': MHP users had a lower EQ-5D-5L utility score; experienced more pain or limitations due to pain (i.e., measured with the RAND-36). 'Environmental Factors': MHPs scored better than SHPs on the VAS-item holding/shaking hands. The SHP scored better than the MHP on five VAS-items (i.e., noise, grip force, vulnerability, putting clothes on, physical effort to control) and the PUF-ULP. CONCLUSION MHPs did not show relevant differences in outcomes compared to SHPs on any of the ICF-categories. This underlines the importance of carefully considering whether the MHP is the most suitable option for an individual taking into account the additional costs of MHPs.

Abstract
AIM There is currently limited evidence on the costs associated with late preterm pre-eclampsia beyond antenatal care and post-natal discharge from hospital. The aim of this analysis is to evaluate the 24-month cost-utility of planned delivery for women with late preterm pre-eclampsia at 34+0-36+6 weeks' gestation compared to expectant management from an English National Health Service perspective using participant-level data from the PHOENIX trial. METHODS Women between 34+0 and 36+6 weeks' gestation in 46 maternity units in England and Wales were individually randomised to planned delivery or expectant management. Resource use was collected from hospital records between randomisation and primary hospital discharge following birth. Women were followed up at 6 months and 24 months following birth and self-reported resource use for themselves and their infant(s) covering the previous 6 months. Women completed the EQ-5D 5L at randomisation and follow-up. RESULTS A total of 450 women were randomised to planned delivery, 451 to expectant management: 187 and 170 women, respectively, had complete data at 24 months. Planned delivery resulted in a significantly lower mean cost per woman and infant(s) over 24 months (- £2711, 95% confidence interval (CI) - 4840 to - 637), with a mean incremental difference in QALYs of 0.019 (95% CI - 0.039 to 0.063). Short-term and 24-month infant costs were not significantly different between the intervention arms. There is a 99% probability that planned delivery is cost-effective at all thresholds below £37,000 per QALY gained. CONCLUSION There is a high probability that planned delivery is cost-effective compared to expectant management. These results need to be considered alongside clinical outcomes and in the wider context of maternity care. TRIAL REGISTRATION ISRCTN registry ISRCTN01879376. Registered 25 November 2013.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Valuing children's health states for use in economic evaluations is globally relevant and is of particular relevance in jurisdictions where a cost-utility analysis is the preferred form of analysis for decision making. Despite this, the challenges with valuing child health mean that there are many remaining questions for debate about the approach to elicitation of values. The aim of this paper was to identify and describe the methods used to value children's health states and the specific issues that arise in the use of these methods. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of electronic databases to identify studies published in English since 1990 that used preference elicitation methods to value child and adolescent (under 18 years of age) health states. Eligibility criteria comprised valuation studies concerning both child-specific patient-reported outcome measures and child health states defined in other ways, and methodological studies of valuation approaches that may or may not have yielded a value set algorithm. RESULTS A total of 77 eligible studies were identified from which data on country setting, aims, condition (general population or clinically specific), sample size, age of respondents, the perspective that participants were asked to adopt, source of values (respondents who completed the preference elicitation tasks) and methods questions asked were extracted. Extracted data were classified and evaluated using narrative synthesis methods. The studies were classified into three groups: (1) studies comparing elicitation methods (n = 30); (2) studies comparing perspectives (n = 23); and (3) studies where no comparisons were presented (n = 26); selected studies could fall into more than one group. Overall, the studies varied considerably both in methods used and in reporting. The preference elicitation tasks included time trade-off, standard gamble, visual analogue scaling, rating/ranking, discrete choice experiments, best-worst scaling and willingness to pay elicited through a contingent valuation. Perspectives included adults' considering the health states from their own perspective, adults taking the perspective of a child (own, other, hypothetical) and a child/adolescent taking their own or the perspective of another child. There was some evidence that children gave lower values for comparable health states than did adults that adopted their own perspective or adult/parents that adopted the perspective of children. CONCLUSIONS Differences in reporting limited the conclusions that can be formed about which methods are most suitable for eliciting preferences for children's health and the influence of differing perspectives and values. Difficulties encountered in drawing conclusions from the data (such as lack of consensus and poor reporting making it difficult for users to choose and interpret available values) suggest that reporting guidelines are required to improve the consistency and quality of reporting of studies that value children's health using preference-based techniques.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for children (aged ≤ 18 years) present methodological challenges. PROMs can be categorised by their diverse underlying conceptual bases, including functional, disability and health (FDH) status; quality of life (QoL); and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Some PROMs are designed to be accompanied by preference weights. PROMs should account for childhood developmental differences by incorporating age-appropriate health/QoL domains, guidance on respondent type(s) and design. This systematic review aims to identify generic multidimensional childhood PROMs and synthesise their characteristics by conceptual basis, target age, measurement considerations, and the preference-based value sets that accompany them. METHODS The study protocol was registered in the Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021230833), and reporting followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We conducted systematic database searches for generic multidimensional childhood PROMs covering the period 2012-2020, which we combined with published PROMs identified by an earlier systematic review that covered the period 1992-2011. A second systematic database search identified preference-based value sets for generic multidimensional PROMs. The PROMs were categorised by conceptual basis (FDH status, QoL and HRQoL) and by target age (namely infants and pre-schoolers aged < 5 years, pre-adolescents aged 5-11, adolescents aged 12-18 and multi-age group coverage). Descriptive statistics assessed how PROM characteristics (domain coverage, respondent type and design) varied by conceptual basis and age categories. Involvement of children in PROM development and testing was assessed to understand content validity. Characteristics of value sets available for the childhood generic multidimensional PROMs were identified and compared. RESULTS We identified 89 PROMs, including 110 versions: 52 FDH, 29 QoL, 12 HRQoL, nine QoL-FDH and eight HRQoL-FDH measures; 20 targeted infants and pre-schoolers, 29 pre-adolescents, 24 adolescents and 37 for multiple age groups. Domain coverage demonstrated development trajectories from observable FDH aspects in infancy through to personal independence and relationships during adolescence. PROMs targeting younger children relied more on informant report, were shorter and had fewer ordinal scale points. One-third of PROMs were developed following qualitative research or surveys with children or parents for concept elicitation. There were 21 preference-based value sets developed by 19 studies of ten generic multidimensional childhood PROMs: seven were based on adolescents' stated preferences, seven were from adults from the perspective of or on behalf of the child, and seven were from adults adopting an adult's perspective. Diverse preference elicitation methods were used to elicit values. Practices with respect to anchoring values on the utility scale also varied considerably. The range and distribution of values reflect these differences, resulting in value sets with notably different properties. CONCLUSION Identification and categorisation of generic multidimensional childhood PROMs and value sets by this review can aid the development, selection and interpretation of appropriate measures for clinical and population research and cost-effectiveness-based decision-making.

Abstract
Objectives The purpose was to examine the effectiveness of the Contours Vibes™ Crib Mattress on infants' and maternal sleep quality and health. Material and Methods Participants were 24 mothers and their infants. For Week 1 the infants slept on their current mattress (Baseline). For Week 2 they slept on the Vibrating Mattress without using the vibrating feature (VMC). For Week 3 they slept on the Vibrating Mattress using the vibrating feature (VMA). Sleep quality and health assessments were completed at Baseline and following VMA and VMC conditions. Results Sleep quality and health outcomes improved significantly for VMA compared to Baseline and VMC. VMC had significant improvements in some sleep and health outcomes compared to Baseline. No adverse events were reported. Conclusion The mattress is a simple, noninvasive, and non-pharmacological intervention that improved infant and maternal sleep quality and health. Further research is need examining the longitudinal effects of the mattress.

Abstract
The Toddler and Infant (TANDI) dimensions of Health-Related Quality of Life assess 'age appropriate' behaviour and measurement could be extended to older children. A sample of 203 children 3-4 years of age was recruited, and their caregivers completed the TANDI, Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) and EQ-5D-Y Proxy. Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Kruskal-Wallis H-test were used to explore the feasibility, known-group validity, discriminate validity and concurrent validity of the TANDI. Children with a health condition (n = 142) had a lower ceiling effect (p = 0.010) and more unique health profiles (p < 0.001) than the healthy group (n = 61). The TANDI discriminated between those with and without a health condition. In children with a health condition, the TANDI discriminated between clinician rated severity of the health condition. The TANDI had moderate to strong correlations with similar PedsQL and EQ-5D-Y items and scores. The TANDI is valid for children aged 3-4 years and is recommended for children with a health condition, whereas the PedsQL may be better for healthy children. The TANDI is recommended for studies with young children whereas the EQ-5D-Y Proxy is recommended for a sample including older children or for longitudinal studies with preschoolers. Further work on the TANDI is recommended to establish test-retest reliability and responsiveness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Efforts to evaluate the health of solid organ transplant recipients are hampered by the lack of adequate patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) targeting this group. We developed the Transplant ePROM (TXP), which is based on a novel measurement model and administered through a mobile application to fill this gap. The main objective of this article is to elucidate how we derived the weights for different items, and to report initial empirical results. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING The nine health items in the TXP were fatigue, skin, worry, self-reliance, activities, weight, sexuality, stooling, and memory. Via an online survey solid organ recipient participating in the TransplantLines Biobank and Cohort study (NCT03272841) were asked to describe and then compare their own health state with six other health states. Coefficients for item levels were obtained using a conditional logit model. RESULTS A total of 232 solid organ transplant recipients (mean age: 54 years) participated. The majority (106) were kidney recipients, followed by lung, liver, and heart recipients. Fatigue was the most frequent complaint (54%). The strongest negative coefficients were found for activities and worry, followed by self-reliance and memory. CONCLUSION A set of coefficients and values were developed for TXP. The TXP score approximated an optimal health state for the majority of respondents and recipients of different organs reported comparable health states.

Abstract
BACKGROUND EQ-5D-Y is a preference-based measure for children and adolescents (aged 8-15 y). This is the first study to develop an EQ-5D-Y value set for converting EQ-5D-Y responses to index values. METHODS We recruited 1047 respondents (aged 20-79 y) from the general population, stratified by gender and age group, in 5 Japanese cities. All data were collected through face-to-face surveys. Respondents were asked to value EQ-5D-Y states for a hypothetical 10-y-old child from a proxy perspective using composite time tradeoff (cTTO) and a discrete choice experiment (DCE). The discrete choice data were analyzed using a mixed logit model. Latent DCE values were then converted to a 0 (death)/1 (full health) scale by mapping them to the cTTO values. RESULTS The mean observed cTTO value of the worst health state [33333] was 0.20. Analysis of the DCE data showed that the coefficients of the domains related to mental functions ("Having pain or discomfort" and "Feeling worried, sad, or unhappy") were larger than those for the domains related to physical and social functions. By converting latent DCE values to a utility scale, we constructed a value set for EQ-5D-Y. No inconsistencies were observed. The minimum predicted score was 0.288 [33333], and the second-best score was 0.957 [12111]. CONCLUSION A value set for EQ-5D-Y was successfully constructed. This is the first survey of an EQ-5D-Y value set. Interpreting the differences between EQ-5D-Y and EQ-5D-5L value sets is a future task with implications for health care policy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Preference-based instruments measuring health status express the value of specific health states in a single number. One method used is time trade-off (TTO). Health-status values are key elements in calculating quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and are pertinent for resource allocation. Since they are used in economic evaluations of healthcare, searching for a theoretical foundation of TTO in economics is justified. AREA COVERED This paper provides an overview of TTO, including its relation to economic theory, and discusses biases and distortions, compiled from recent and older research. Inconsistencies between TTO and random utility theory were detected; The TTO is confounded by time preferences and by respondents' life expectancies. TTO is cognitively challenging, therefore guidance during the interviews is needed, producing interview effects. TTO does not measure one thing at a time, nor are the values independent of other states that are being valued in the same task. That is, TTO does not exhibit theoretical measurement properties such as unidimensionality and the invariance principle. EXPERT OPINION We conclude that the TTO may be a pragmatic method of eliciting health state values, but the limitations in regard to measurement theory and practical elicitation problems makes it prone to inconsistencies and arbitrariness.
