Abstract
2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPHP) is ubiquitous in various environmental media and organisms. Due to its susceptibility to biotransformation, its primary product 2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl diphenyl phosphate (5-OH-EHDPHP) is almost at equal level in organisms. However, their hepatotoxicity remains unclear. In this study, adult zebrafish were exposed to 5, 35, or 245 µg/L of EHDPHP for 28 days. Distinct metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) was observed in treated zebrafish, indicated by increased hepatic lipid levels (total cholesterol, triglycerides, nonesterified fatty acids, and fat droplets), steatosis (hepatic ballooning), and inflammation (tnf-α and il-6). Combined the in vitro hepatic cell test, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation, it was revealed that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (pparγ) was upregulated upon EHDPHP exposure, thereby facilitating lipid synthesis and hepatic lipid accumulation. Notably, its main metabolite 5-OH-EHDPHP induced stronger hepatocyte toxicity and PPARγ transcription. Additionally, serious liver function damage was observed, with aspartate aminotransferase, alanine transaminase, albumin, and γ-glutamyl transferase levels markedly disrupted. This increases the risk of development of cardiovascular disease, hepatic cirrhosis or other chronic conditions. Collectively, the results demonstrate that EHDPHP may cause strong hepatic toxicities, which may be pounded by its hydroxylated metabolites.

Abstract
Stroke is a serious public health problem in developing countries like India, leading to rising deaths and disability-adjusted life years related to stroke. Pre-hospital delay is a major concern in most acute stroke cases, affecting timely interventions and treatment outcomes. Hence the current study aimed to identify the factors influencing the time from stroke onset to arrival at the emergency department and to map the spatial distribution of stroke cases from the tertiary care hospital. We conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study among stroke patients presenting to the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital in Mysuru. Data on sociodemographic, clinical, and pre-hospital factors, along with detailed addresses of the place of stroke onset, first and second consultation, and their proximal first referral units were collected. GIS mapping was done using the software ArcGIS v10.8.2, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v25. Most of the study participants were men, over 60 years of age, and residents from rural areas of Mysuru and its neighboring districts. The study found that only 25% of the stroke cases arrived within 4.5 h of symptom onset, with hemiparesis and slurred speech being the most common presenting complaints. Almost all the cases were within a 20 km radius of the first referral units with factors such as age group (p = 0.028), diabetes as a comorbid condition (p = 0.007), the decision taken for symptom onset (p < 0.01), the person involved in decision-making (p = 0.006), and the mode of arrival at the hospital (p = 0.004) being significantly associated with the duration from stroke onset to arrival at the hospital. This highlights the need for public awareness campaigns on stroke symptoms, the importance of early hospital presentation following stroke onset, and the capacity building of first referral units to provide timely emergency stroke care for people residing in rural areas.

Abstract
Background The controversy persists regarding whether the serum level of γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), a marker of liver damage, is associated with hypertension irrespective of alcohol intake. Methods We investigated the relationship between the GGT level and new-onset hypertension during a 10-year follow-up period in Japanese individuals who underwent annual health examinations (n=28,990). After excluding subjects without systolic blood pressure and GGT data and those with hypertension at baseline, a total of 18,618 subjects (men/women: 11,262/7,356, mean age: 44 years) were enrolled. Results During the follow-up period, 2,753 men (24.4%) and 837 women (11.4%) developed hypertension. When the subjects were divided by quartiles of GGT at baseline (Q1-Q4), multivariable Cox proportional hazard model analyses after adjustment for age, sex, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, levels of uric acid, estimated glomerular filtration rate, family history of hypertension, habits of current smoking and alcohol drinking, and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia showed that hazard risks (HRs) for the development of hypertension were significantly higher in the Q2, Q3, and Q4 groups than in the Q1 group. A significant interaction was observed between alcohol drinking habits and the GGT level at baseline for the development of hypertension (p=0.022), and adjusted HRs were similarly significant in alcohol infrequent drinkers (≤5 days/week). However, the GGT level was not significantly associated with the development of hypertension in frequent alcohol drinkers (≥6 days/week). Conclusions A high GGT level is an independent predictor of new-onset hypertension in infrequent alcohol drinkers but not in frequent drinkers.

Abstract
Background Research has investigated the gamma-glutamyltransferase to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (GGT/HDL-C) ratio concerning metabolic diseases. This study aims to explore its effects on mortality, including cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2018), comprising 50,462 U.S. adults. Survival outcomes were assessed through Kaplan-Meier curves, and a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model was employed to analyze the relationship between GGT/HDL-C levels and mortality risk. Restricted cubic splines and hierarchical analyses were utilized to explore potential non-linear associations and interactions, respectively. Results During a median follow-up period of 114.4 months, 7573 deaths were recorded, including 1956 deaths related to CVD. The relationship between the GGT/HDL-C ratio and the likelihood of all-cause death and CVD death showed a J-shaped curve in the restricted cubic spline analysis. Below a lnGGT/HDL-C of 2.3 (GGT/HDL-C of 10.0), no significant correlation with all-cause mortality was identified, while the threshold for CVD death was established at lnGGT/HDL-C of 2.5. Beyond these thresholds, each unit increase in lnGGT/HDL-C was associated with a 36.3 % higher risk of all-cause mortality [HR (95 % CI), 1.36 (1.26, 1.47)] and a 67.1 % increased risk of death from CVD [HR (95 % CI), 1.67 (1.42, 1.97)]. Consistent findings were observed across various subgroups, with participants younger than 65 showing a more pronounced association. Conclusions The GGT/HDL-C ratio exhibits a J-shaped correlation with the risk of all-cause mortality and CVD mortality among U.S. adults. This ratio may be utilized for assessing mortality risk.

Abstract
Gentamicin (Genta)-induced nephrotoxicity poses a significant clinical challenge due to its detrimental effects on kidney function. Clopidogrel (Clop), an antiplatelet drug known for its ability to prevent blood clots by inhibiting platelet aggregation, also has potential effects on oxidative stress and cell death. This study investigates Clop's protective role against Genta-induced nephrotoxicity, emphasizing the importance of the coagulation cascade. The 32 adult male albino rats were randomly assigned to four groups of eight (n = 8). The first group received only the vehicle. Genta was injected intraperitoneally at 100 mg/kg/day for 8 days in the second group. Groups 3 and 4 received oral Clop at 10 and 20 mg/kg/day for 1 week before Genta delivery and throughout the experiment. Renal tissue showed renal function tests, oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory cytokines, apoptotic markers, coagulation profile, and fibrin expression. Clop improved Genta-induced kidney function and histopathology. Clop substantially reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress indicators, pro-apoptotic proteins, and fibrin protein. Clop also significantly boosted renal tissue anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic protein expression. Genta-induced nephrotoxicity involves oxidative stress, apoptosis, and coagulation system activation, according to studies. This study underscores that Genta-induced nephrotoxicity is associated with oxidative stress, apoptosis, and activation of the coagulation system. Clop's protective effects on nephrons are attributed to its anticoagulant, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties, presenting it as a promising therapeutic strategy against Genta-induced kidney damage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to evaluate how the parameters used in the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and parameters such as epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness, insulin resistance (IR), and serum uric acid (SUA) are affected according to the severity of obesity. METHODS A total of 120 obese patients aged 10-18 years were classified as class 1-2-3 according to their body mass index (BMI) score. SUA was measured and oral glucose tolerance tests were performed on all patients. MetS components were determined according to the International Diabetes Federation 2007 criteria. IR was calculated using homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and whole body insulin sensitivity index (WBISI). RESULTS HOMA-IR was higher in the class 3 group than in the class 1 (p<0.001) and class 2 groups (p<0.01). WBISI was lower in the class 3 group than in the class 1 (p=0.015) and class 2 groups (p<0.01). EAT thickness was higher in the class 3 group than in the class 1 (p<0.01) and class 2 groups (p<0.01). No significant difference was found between class 1 and 2 groups for HOMA-IR, WBISI, and EAT thickness variables. The frequency of the MetS components was similar between the class of obesity groups (p=0.702). SUA and EAT thickness were significantly higher in the group with 2 and/or more MetS components than in the group with no MetS component. EAT thickness was positively and moderately correlated with SUA levels (Rho=0.319, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS A more significant increase in cardiovascular disease risk factors, especially after class 2 obesity suggests that obese people should be followed closely and necessary interventions made for the prevention and progression of obesity. SUA and EAT thickness, an important risk factor affecting the obesity-related comorbidities, are positively correlated with each other and can be used in the follow-up of obese children.

Abstract
Introduction Identifying suitable biomarkers is crucial for exploring the pathogenesis, early screening, and therapeutic monitoring of lung cancer. This study aims to analyze comprehensively the associations between lung cancer and biomarkers in blood and urine. Methods Bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to evaluate the potential causal relationships between blood and urine biomarkers and lung cancer. We obtained Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to lung cancer from the 2021 Finnish database of genome-wide association studies, including small cell lung cancer (SCLC), total non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), lung adenocarcinoma (LAC), and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).Data on blood and urine biomarkers were derived from the UK Biobank cohort, comprising 376,807 participants. Results We found a potential inverse causal relationship between total bilirubin and SCLC (β=-0.285, P=0.015, FDR=0.12). Urate was inversely associated with NSCLC (β=-0.158, P=0.004, FDR=0.036*). Serum calcium showed a possible inverse relationship with lung squamous cell carcinoma (β=-0.256, P=0.046, FDR=0.138), while urinary creatinine was positively associated (β=1.233, P=0.024, FDR=0.216). Non-albumin proteins (β=-0.272, P=0.020, FDR=0.180) and total protein (β=-0.402, P=0.009, FDR=0.072) were inversely related to lung squamous cell carcinoma. The AST/ALT ratio was positively associated with lung adenocarcinoma (β=0.293, P=0.009, FDR=0.072). Our reverse Mendelian randomization study found a positive causal association between small cell lung cancer and serum creatinine (β=0.022, P=0.002, FDR=0.018*), while it was inversely associated with the estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)(β=-0.022, P=0.003, FDR=0.027*). A positive causal relationship was also observed with cystatin C (β=0.026, P=0.005, FDR=0.045*) and glycated hemoglobin HbA1c (β=0.013, P=0.014, FDR=0.028*). A negative causal relationship was observed with Gamma_glutamyltransferase (β=-0.013, P=0.019, FDR=0.152). For non-small cell lung cancer, a negative causal relationship was found with albumin (β=-0.024, P=0.002, FDR=0.016*), while a potentially positive causal relationship was observed with cystatin C (β=0.022, P=0.006, FDR=0.054). Possible negative causal relationships were also observed with phosphate (β=-0.013, P=0.008, FDR=0.072) and urinary potassium (β=-0.011, P=0.012, FDR=0.108), while a potential positive causal relationship was observed with C-reactive protein (β=0.013, P=0.040, FDR=0.280).Regarding lung squamous cell carcinoma, an inverse causal relationship was found with eGFR (β=-0.022, P=9.58e-06, FDR=8.62×10-5*), while a positive causal relationship was observed with serum creatinine (β=0.021, P=1.16e-4, FDR=1.05×10-3*). Potential positive causal relationships were observed with Urate (β=0.012, P=0.020, FDR=0.180), urea (β=0.010, P=0.046, FDR=0.141), and glycated hemoglobin HbA1c (β=0.020, P=0.049, FDR P=0.098), whereas a potential negative causal relationship was observed with sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG) (β=-0.020, P=0.036, FDR=0.108).Lastly, adenocarcinoma was found to have a positive causal association with alkaline phosphatase (β=0.015, P=0.006, FDR=0.033*). Conclusion Our study provides a robust theoretical basis for the early screening and therapeutic monitoring of lung cancer and contributes to understanding the pathogenesis of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) patients undergo uniform imaging surveillance until reaching the surgical threshold. In spite of the ongoing exploration of AAA pathophysiology, biomarkers for personalized surveillance are lacking. This study aims to identify potential circulating biomarkers for AAA growth on serial CT scans. METHODS Patients with an AAA (maximal diameter ≥40 mm) were included in this multicentre, prospective cohort study. Participants underwent baseline blood sampling and yearly CT-imaging to determine AAA diameter and volume. Proteins and metabolites were measured using proximity extension assay (Olink Cardiovascular III) or separate ELISA panels, and mass-spectrometry (LC-TQMS), respectively. Linear mixed-effects, orthogonal partial least squares, and Cox regression were used to explore biomarker associations with AAA volume growth rate and the risk of surpassing the surgical threshold, as formulated by current guidelines. RESULTS 271 biomarkers (95 proteins, 176 metabolites) were measured in 109 (90.8 % male) patients with mean age 72. Median baseline maximal AAA diameter was 47.8 mm, volume 109 mL. Mean annual AAA volume growth rate was 11.5 %, 95 % confidence interval (CI) (10.4, 12.7). Median follow-up time was 23.2 months, 49 patients reached the surgical threshold. Patients with one standard deviation (SD) higher glutathione and glycine levels at baseline had an AAA volume growth rate that respectively was 1.97 %, 95%CI (0.97, 2.97) and 1.74 %, 95%CI (0.78, 2.71) larger, relative to the actual aneurysm size. Serine was associated with the risk of reaching the surgical threshold, independent of age and baseline AAA size (cause-specific hazard ratio per SD difference 1.78, 95%CI (1.30, 2.44)). CONCLUSIONS Among multiple intertwined biomarkers related to AAA pathophysiology and progression, glutathione, glycine and serine were most promising.

Abstract
Objective Longitudinal cohort analysis was performed to identify the association between changes in the gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio trajectory and the risk of developing diabetes mellitus. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study. We analyzed the latent trajectory classes of changes in the GGT/HDL-C ratio by applying a latent class mixture model with healthy individuals who underwent medical checkups from January 2017 to December 2021 as the study subjects. To analyze the effect of the GGT/HDL-C ratio trajectory classes on new-onset diabetes mellitus, we then applied a multivariate Cox proportional risk regression model. Statistical analysis was performed using the R-software with the LCMM package. Results The study cohort comprised 3410 participants. All participants were followed up for 5 years, and 95 developed diabetes (4-year incidence of 2.78%). By applying the latent class mixed model, we categorized participants into three trajectory groups: low-stability group (n = 2253), medium-increase group (n = 941), and high-increase group (n = 216). The Cox proportional risk regression model analysis showed that the hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) for the incidence of diabetes mellitus was 1.73 (1.04-2.87) in the medium-increase group and 3.96 (2.11-7.44) in the high-increase group. Moreover, we calculated the estimated model-based levels and linear slopes of the GGT/HDL-C ratios for each age group between 26 and 85 years at 10-year intervals, respectively. The results indicated the strongest correlation between the GGT/HDL-C ratio slope and diabetes in the 46-55 year age group, with an odds ratio of 1.51 (1.25-1.83). Conclusion A large increase in the GGT/HDL-C ratio was highly associated with the risk of developing diabetes mellitus. This result suggests that vigilance for changes in the GGT/HDL-C ratio trajectory during community health screening can help identify potential patients with diabetes, enabling early intervention and treatment.

Abstract
Background Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has been associated with coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension, but its association with psoriasis has not yet been elucidated. Aims We conducted this study to determine the association between the risk of psoriasis and the serum GGT. Methods We conducted a nationwide population-based study. A total of 9,939,350 people met the enrolment criteria. The study population was classified into four groups based on GGT levels and the risk of psoriasis was calculated for each group. Results The incidence rates of psoriasis per 1,000 person-years were 2.96105 and 3.68577 in the lowest and highest GGT groups, respectively. After adjusting for age, sex, income, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcohol intake, exercise, and body mass index, the highest GGT group showed a significantly increased risk of developing psoriasis (hazard ratio: 1.057, 95% confidence interval: 1.044-1.07). This risk of psoriasis was significantly higher among the old age group (hazard ratio: 1.162, 95% confidence interval: 1.128-1.197) and women (hazard ratio: 1.14, 95% confidence interval: 1.117-1.164). Limitations The limitations of this study included the retrospective design, International Classification of Diseases code-based diagnosis, small hazard ratio, and non-availability of data on covariates. Conclusion The GGT level was found to be an independent risk factor for developing psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS We aimed to assess the association of blood lipids with the prevalence, incidence, and progression of subclinical atherosclerosis among young individuals without dyslipidemia and other traditional cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs). METHODS A total of 1270 participants from the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study aged 32-46 years free of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, current smoking, and dyslipidemia (total cholesterol [TC] ≥ 240 mg/dL, triglycerides [TG] ≥ 150 mg/dL, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C] ≥ 160 mg/dL, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol [HDL-C] < 40 mg/dL, or taking lipid-lowering medications) were included. A subgroup with optimal lipids within the low-CVRF group was defined with TC < 200 mg/dL, LDL-C < 100 mg/dL, non-HDL-C < 130 mg/dL, and women with HDL-C ≥ 50 mg/dL. RESULTS 1-SD higher TC (25.9 mg/dL), LDL-C (24.7 mg/dL), and non-HDL-C (26.6 mg/dL) were associated with a greater risk of presence (hazard ratios: 1.30-1.36), incidence (1.30-1.32), and progression (1.31-1.35) of coronary artery calcium (CAC) and a 42-44% greater odds of composite mean carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) ≥ 75th percentile [780 μm] (p < 0.05). Repeating the analyses in a subset of participants with a CAC score of zero did not alter the association of TC, LDL-C, and non-HDL-C with CIMT. In the subgroup with optimal lipids, these lipid indices remained associated with an increased risk of presence and incidence of CAC and greater CIMT measures. CONCLUSIONS Among adults aged 32-46 years, in the absence of traditional CVRFs, elevated cholesterol levels, even within what is considered optimal, are associated with atherosclerosis and arteriopathy.

Abstract
Risk factors for hypertension have been emphasized in the Japanese Society of Hypertension Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension. However, large-scale studies on the association of smoking, potassium excretion, and gamma-glutamyl transferase level with BP in the Japanese population are limited. We conducted a cross-sectional study to examine the association between hypertension risk factors and systolic blood pressure in the Tohoku Medical Megabank Community-based Cohort Study (23,446 men and 38,921 women aged ≥20 years). A model adjusted for age, body mass index, smoking status, drinking status, estimated daily salt intake, potassium excretion, (or urinary sodium-to-potassium ratio), gamma-glutamyl transferase, physical activity, education level, status of damage to homes during the Great East Japan Earthquake, and residential areas was used. The average age and systolic blood pressure were 62.5 (10.3) years for men and 59.6 (11.3) years for women, 128.9 (16.7) mmHg for men and 124.7 (17.5) mmHg for women, respectively. Body mass index estimated daily salt intake, urinary sodium-to-potassium ratio and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels were positively associated with systolic blood pressure. Compared with never-drinkers, current drinkers who consumed 23-45 g/day and ≥46.0 g/day had significantly increased systolic blood pressure. Conversely, current smokers (1-10 cigarettes/day and 11-20 cigarettes/day) were inversely associated with systolic blood pressure compared to never-smokers. Overall, systolic blood pressure was associated with gamma-glutamyl transferase and hypertension risk factors, including body mass index, alcohol consumption, estimated daily salt intake, urinary sodium-to-potassium ratio, and potassium excretion. Our findings support the notion that lifestyle modifications should be attempted to prevent hypertension.

Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread pollutants associated with several adverse health effects and PAH-induced oxidative stress has been proposed as a potential mechanism. This study evaluated the associations of single and multiple PAHs exposure with oxidative stress within the Korean adult population, using serum gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) as an oxidative stress marker. Data from the Second Korean National Environmental Health Survey (2012-2014) were analyzed. For analysis, 5225 individuals were included. PAH exposure was assessed with four urinary PAH metabolites: 1-hydroxyphenanthrene, 1-hydroxypyrene, 2-hydroxyfluorene, and 2-naphthol. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, drinking, passive smoking, and current smoking (model 1), as well as the presence of diabetes and hepatobiliary diseases (model 2), complex samples general linear model regression analyses for each metabolite revealed a significant positive association between Ln(1-hydroxyphenanthrene) and Ln(GGT) (model 1: β = 0.040, p < 0.01 and model 2: β = 0.044, p < 0.05). For the complete dataset (n = 4378), a significant positive association was observed between mixture of four urinary PAH metabolites and serum GGT in both the quantile g-computation and the Bayesian kernel machine regression analysis. Our study provides evidence for the association between mixed PAH exposure and oxidative stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Elevated liver enzyme levels are suggested to be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, few studies have explored the relationship between liver enzymes and myocardial infarction (MI). This study aimed to evaluate the potential association of elevated liver enzymes with MI within a population group in Bangladesh. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 348 participants were enrolled, 189 with MI in the CVD group and 159 in the control group. Serum levels of liver enzymes (AST, ALT and GGT) and other biochemical parameters were measured using standard methods. Multivariate logistic regression models were applied to determine the associations between elevated liver enzymes and CVD. RESULT In the CVD group, 51.6%, 30.9% and 67.7% of individuals had elevated serum AST, ALT and GGT levels, respectively. On the contrary, the control group had 17.0%, 15.1% and 35.2% of individuals with high serum AST, ALT and GGT levels, respectively. Overall, 71.8% of the subjects in the CVD group and 44.7% of the subjects in the control group had at least one or more elevated liver enzymes (p < 0.001). The mean level of all three liver enzymes was significantly higher in the CVD group than in the control group (p < 0.001). In both the CVD and control groups, males had higher levels of liver enzymes than females. In the regression models, the serum levels of AST, ALT and GGT showed a positive and independent association with the prevalence of CVD (p < 0.001). However, GGT showed the strongest association among the three enzymes. CONCLUSIONS This study shows a high prevalence of liver enzyme abnormalities in individuals with CVD. Serum levels of AST, ALT and GGT were independently associated with the prevalence of CVD. This suggests that measuring liver enzyme levels could be a useful marker in predicting CVD at an early stage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested that systemic metabolic abnormalities are closely related to psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and indirect bilirubin (IBIL), two essential active substances in hepatic metabolism that have been demonstrated as an oxidative and anti-oxidative factor respectively, have been proved to be involved in oxidative stress damage and inflammation in several human diseases. However, their role in PsA remains unclear. METHODS In this retrospective comparative cohort study, a case group of 68 PsA patients and a control group of 73 healthy volunteers from the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University were enrolled. Serum GGT, IBIL, GGT/IBIL ratio and C-reactive protein (CRP), a well applied bio-marker of systemic inflammatory in PsA, were compared between the two groups. Furthermore, the relationship of GGT, IBIL and GGT/IBIL with CRP were explored in PsA patients. Finally, the patients were divided into high inflammation group and low inflammation group according to the median value of CRP. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used for the association of systemic inflammation level with GGT, IBIL and GGT/IBIL. RESULTS Compared with healthy controls, PsA patients exhibited significantly higher serum GGT, GGT/IBIL, and CRP levels and lower IBIL levels. Serum GGT and GGT/IBIL were positively correlated with CRP, whereas IBIL were negatively correlated with CRP. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that serum GGT was a risk factor for high CRP in PsA, whereas IBIL was a protective factor. Furthermore, GGT/IBIL was a better indicator of high CRP condition in PsA patients than either GGT or IBIL alone, as determined by the receiver operating characteristic curves. CONCLUSION GGT and IBIL may participate in the pathogenesis of PsA. Additionally, GGT, IBIL and the balance of the two may reflect systemic inflammation mediated by oxidative stress events related to metabolic abnormalities to a certain extent.

Abstract
Background and Aims Hypertension and abnormal liver enzymes are common health issues that frequently coexist, and recent research has suggested a possible association between them, warranting further investigation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore the relationship between liver enzymes and hypertension. Methods This prospective cohort study utilized data from the Kharameh cohort study, which is a branch of the Prospective Epidemiological Studies in Iran (PERSIAN) database. The study included 7710 participants aged between 40 and 70 years. Hypertension was defined in accordance with the European guidelines for hypertension management, and the association between liver enzymes and hypertension was modeled and predicted using Firth logistic regression. Results This study investigated the association between liver enzymes and hypertension risk in a cohort of 7710 individuals aged 40-70 years. The results showed that higher levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were associated with an increased risk of hypertension, and this relationship remained significant even after adjusting for potential confounding factors. Additionally, separate analyses within age subgroups revealed a significant association between ALP concentration and high blood pressure in certain age ranges. Conclusion The study demonstrated a significant association between high levels of ALT, GGT, and ALP and an increased risk of hypertension, regardless of other risk factors. These results suggest that monitoring liver enzymes, specifically ALT, GGT, and ALP, could serve as a useful tool to predict hypertension risk and identify individuals who could benefit from early intervention. Overall, these findings underscore the importance of monitoring liver function in preventing and managing hypertension.

Abstract
While alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) enzymes are commonly used indicators of liver dysfunction recent studies have suggested that these may also serve as predictive biomarkers in the assessment of extrahepatic morbidity. In order to shed further light on the interactions between serum liver enzyme abnormalities, factors of lifestyle and health status we examined ALT and GGT activities in a population-based sample of 8743 adult individuals (4048 men, 4695 women from the National FINRISK 2002 Study, mean age 48.1 ± 13.1 years) with different levels of alcohol drinking, smoking, physical activity, body weight and the presence or absence of various pre-existing medical conditions. The assessments also included laboratory tests for inflammation, lipid status and fatty liver index (FLI), a proxy for fatty liver. The prevalence of ALT and GGT abnormalities were significantly influenced by alcohol use (ALT: p < 0.0005 for men; GGT: p <0.0005 for both genders), smoking (GGT: p <0.0005 for men, p =0.002 for women), adiposity (p < 0.0005 for all comparisons), physical inactivity (GGT: p <0.0005; ALT: p <0.0005 for men, p <0.05 for women) and coffee consumption (p <0.0005 for GGT in both genders; p <0.001 for ALT in men). The total sum of lifestyle risk factor scores (LRFS) influenced the occurrence of liver enzyme abnormalities in a rather linear manner. Significantly higher LRFS were observed in the subgroups of individuals with pre-existing medical conditions when compared with those having no morbidities (p <0.0005). In logistic regression analyses adjusted for the lifestyle factors, both ALT and GGT associated significantly with fatty liver, diabetes and hypertension. GGT levels also associated with coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, cardiac insufficiency, cerebrovascular disease, asthma and depression. Combinations of abnormal ALT and GGT activities significantly increased the odds for hypertension coinciding with abnormalities in biomarkers of inflammation, lipid status and FLI. The data indicates that ALT and GGT activities readily respond to unfavorable factors of lifestyle associating also with a wide array of pre-existing medical conditions. The data supports close links between both hepatic and extrahepatic morbidities and lifestyle risk factors and may open new insights on a more comprehensive use of liver enzymes in predictive algorithms for assessing mechanistically anchored disease conditions.

Abstract
The medical disorders of alcoholism rank among the leading public health problems worldwide and the need for predictive and prognostic risk markers for assessing alcohol use disorders (AUD) has been widely acknowledged. Early-phase detection of problem drinking and associated tissue toxicity are important prerequisites for timely initiations of appropriate treatments and improving patient's committing to the objective of reducing drinking. Recent advances in clinical chemistry have provided novel approaches for a specific detection of heavy drinking through assays of unique ethanol metabolites, phosphatidylethanol (PEth) or ethyl glucuronide (EtG). Carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT) measurements can be used to indicate severe alcohol problems. Hazardous drinking frequently manifests as heavy episodic drinking or in combinations with other unfavorable lifestyle factors, such as smoking, physical inactivity, poor diet or adiposity, which aggravate the metabolic consequences of alcohol intake in a supra-additive manner. Such interactions are also reflected in multiple disease outcomes and distinct abnormalities in biomarkers of liver function, inflammation and oxidative stress. Use of predictive biomarkers either alone or as part of specifically designed biological algorithms helps to predict both hepatic and extrahepatic morbidity in individuals with such risk factors. Novel approaches for assessing progression of fibrosis, a major determinant of prognosis in AUD, have also been made available. Predictive algorithms based on the combined use of biomarkers and clinical observations may prove to have a major impact on clinical decisions to detect AUD in early pre-symptomatic stages, stratify patients according to their substantially different disease risks and predict individual responses to treatment.

Abstract
Introduction The metabolic syndrome consists of metabolic abnormalities that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cerebrovascular disease. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a growing problem worldwide, and substantial efforts have been made in the last years to identify early, minimally invasive blood-based biomarkers for its diagnosis. This study attempted to assess how serum Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) performed as an ideal endogenous substance for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome and hence estimate cardiovascular risks. Methodology This study has been undertaken to assess the role of GGT as a marker in the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome and to assess the sensitivity and specificity of GGT in the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. One hundred and eighty subjects were recruited comprising 90 cases of MetS and an equal number of age and gender-matched controls. Patients were recruited into the study group after satisfying the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria for MetS. GGT values were obtained for both groups apart from other parameters. The patients in the study were also evaluated for the presence of cardiovascular diseases and cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). Results Sixty cases have GGT levels above the normal range (55 in males and 38 in females), and none in the control group have GGT levels above normal. This difference is statistically significant (p=0.01). The sensitivity was found to be 67% and 94% for males and females respectively. The specificity was found to be 100% and 98% for males and females respectively. Among the 90 cases, 20 (22.2%) patients developed cardiovascular disease. None in the control group developed cardiovascular disease. This difference is statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion Serum GGT appears to be an easily available and fairly good marker for diagnosing patients with metabolic syndrome and is independent of other parameters of metabolic syndrome. It is also a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease. Hence GGT can be considered a potential marker for the evaluation of patients with metabolic syndrome.

Abstract
Objective Gamma-glutamyl dipeptides are bioactive peptides involved in inflammation, oxidative stress, and glucose regulation. Gamma-glutamyl-leucine (Gamma-Glu-Leu) has been extensively reported to be associated with the risk of cardio-metabolic diseases, such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. However, the causality remains to be uncovered. The aim of this study was to explore the causal-effect relationships between Gamma-Glu-Leu and metabolic risk. Materials and methods In this study, 1,289 subjects were included from a cross-sectional survey on metabolic syndrome (MetS) in eastern China. Serum Gamma-Glu-Leu levels were measured by untargeted metabolomics. Using linear regressions, a two-stage genome-wide association study (GWAS) for Gamma-Glu-Leu was conducted to seek its instrumental single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). One-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed to evaluate the causality between Gamma-Glu-Leu and the metabolic risk. Results Four SNPs are associated with serum Gamma-Glu-Leu levels, including rs12476238, rs56146133, rs2479714, and rs12229654. Out of them, rs12476238 exhibits the strongest association (Beta = -0.38, S.E. = 0.07 in discovery stage, Beta = -0.29, S.E. = 0.14 in validation stage, combined P-value = 1.04 × 10-8). Each of the four SNPs has a nominal association with at least one metabolic risk factor. Both rs12229654 and rs56146133 are associated with body mass index, waist circumference (WC), the ratio of WC to hip circumference, blood pressure, and triglyceride (5 × 10-5 < P < 0.05). rs56146133 also has nominal associations with fasting insulin, glucose, and insulin resistance index (5 × 10-5 < P < 0.05). Using the four SNPs serving as the instrumental SNPs of Gamma-Glu-Leu, the MR analyses revealed that higher Gamma-Glu-Leu levels are causally associated with elevated risks of multiple cardio-metabolic factors except for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P > 0.05). Conclusion Four SNPs (rs12476238, rs56146133, rs2479714, and rs12229654) may regulate the levels of serum Gamma-Glu-Leu. Higher Gamma-Glu-Leu levels are causally linked to cardio-metabolic risks. Future prospective studies on Gamma-Glu-Leu are required to explain its role in metabolic disorders.

Abstract
Background The association between liver enzymes and hypertension (HTN) has been reported in some studies and the findings are inconsistent. This study was conducted to evaluate the association of liver enzymes with HTN among the Iranian Kurdish population. Methods This prospective cohort study was a part of the 5-years (2017–2021) follow-up phase of the Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease (RaNCD) cohort study in Kermanshah province, western Iran.The association between alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glut amyl transferase (GGT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and HTN was investigated by Cox proportional-hazard model (CPHM). We used one-to-one Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis to minimize the effects of confounding factors on the relationship between liver enzymes and HTN . Results The full population included a total of 8267 participants. According to PSM, for liver enzyme GGT a total of 3664 participants were analyzed. The results of multivariate CPHM showed there is a relationship between participants with high level of GGT and had a higher risk of HTN (HR 1.34; 95% CI: 1.11–1.63). After PSM analysis, the effect of GGT on HTN remained positive and significant (HR 1.48; 95% CI: 1.22–1.78). The 5-years incidence rate of HTN in men and women were 1.27 and 0.81 (person-year), respectively.GGT had the greatest accuracy, which demonstrated an AUROC of 0.7837. Conclusion Results of this study showed GGT could be a potential biomarker among liver enzymes for early detection of HTN. Therefore, monitoring GGT levels is helpful in the early detection of HTN. Abstract
Serum γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) levels have been shown to be associated with C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Nevertheless, studies on this relationship in coronary heart disease (CHD) populations are limited. This study retrospectively assessed 17 523 patients with CHD undergoing GGT and CRP testing. They were divided into 3 groups according to GGT tertiles. The critical points for high CRP levels was 10.0 mg/L, which corresponded to the 75th percentile. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between GGT and CRP levels in CHD patients. The baseline analysis showed significant differences in related parameters among patients with CHD. Compared with GGT tertile 1 (T1), the odds ratio (OR) of T3 for GGT in CHD patients was 2.15 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.96-2.36). The association between GGT and CRP was higher in males (OR: 2.23; 95% CI: 1.98-2.52) than in females (OR: 2.18; 95% CI: 1.89-2.51). This study showed an association between serum GGT and CRP levels in patients with CHD. GGT may be an inflammatory marker and an additional measure for assessing cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels and the risk of hip fracture among middle-aged women by using the Korean National Health Insurance Service claims database from 2002 to 2015. After exclusion of those with any chronic liver disease, heavy alcohol consumption, any missing values required for our analysis, or GGT levels less than 1 or greater than 99 percentile, we classified subjects into three groups according to baseline GGT levels. A total of 127,141 women aged 50 years or older were included for analysis (GGT range: 8–106 U/L). During an average 12.1 years of follow-up, 2758 patients sustained hip fractures (2.17%). Compared with the group in the lowest tertile, the group in the highest tertile had the highest cumulative incidence of hip fracture. One log-unit increase in GGT was associated with a 17% increased risk of hip fracture. Subgroup analysis by BMI (≥ 25 vs. < 25 kg/m2), presence of diabetes, levels of other liver enzymes, and alcohol consumption level did not show significant effect modification. In summary, elevated baseline GGT level was associated with an increased risk of hip fracture in postmenopausal women, independent of alcohol consumption and chronic liver disease.

Abstract
Previous studies demonstrated inconsistent results regarding the association between liver function and hypertension. In addition, large cohort follow-up studies are lacking. Therefore, this longitudinal study aimed to investigate the association between liver function and incident hypertension using data from the Taiwan Biobank (TWB). We evaluated liver biomarkers, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), albumin, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), total bilirubin, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) in this study. A total of 21,293 participants without hypertension at baseline were analyzed. During the mean 3.9-year follow-up, 3002 participants developed hypertension (defined as incident hypertension). Multivariable analysis revealed that high AST (odds ratio [OR], 1.004; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001-1.007; p = 0.014), high ALT (OR, 1.004; 95% CI, 1.002-1.006; p < 0.001), high albumin (OR, 1.897; 95% CI, 1.573-2.286; p < 0.001), and high GGT (OR, 1.004; 95% CI, 1.003-1.005; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with incident hypertension in all study participants. In subgroup analysis of the participants with an ALT level ≤2 times the normal limit (80 u/l) (n = 20,983), multivariable analysis demonstrated that high ALT (OR, 1.009; 95% CI, 1.005-1.012; p < 0.001) and high GGT (OR, 1.005; 95% CI, 1.003-1.006; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with incident hypertension. In conclusion, we found that elevated AST, ALT, albumin, and GGT were associated with incident hypertension in a large Taiwanese cohort. A greater understanding of potential risk factors for hypertension may help to reduce the burden of hypertension in this Taiwanese population.

Abstract
Background The impact of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication on metabolism of lipid and the potential predictor of such changes remain unclear. Methods This study retrospectively included subjects who underwent at least two 13C urea breath tests between 2015 and 2019 at Wuhan Union Hospital. Based on two H. pylori13C examination results, subjects were divided into propensity score-matched persistently negative (HPN), persistently positive (HPP), and eradication (HPE) groups. The changes in lipid measurements from before to after H. pylori eradication, including high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total cholesterol, and triglycerides, were compared within and between groups. Forty-two candidate factors were tested for their ability to predict lipid metabolism changes after H. pylori eradication. Results After propensity score matching, 3412 matched cases were analyzed. Within-group comparisons showed significantly decreased HDL (P < 0.001) and increased LDL (P < 0.001) at the second examination in both the HPE and HPP groups. Between-group comparisons showed that the HDL decrease of the HPE group was significantly larger and smaller when compared with the HPN (P = 0.001) and HPP (P = 0.004) group, respectively. Uni- and multivariate analyses showed that low diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (P = 0.002) and high mean platelet volume (MPV) (P = 0.001) before eradication were associated with increased HDL after eradication. Low total protein (TP) (P < 0.001) was associated with decreased LDL after eradication. Conclusions Compared with sustained H. pylori infectious states, H. pylori eradication alleviated the lipid metabolism deterioration but did not restore it to the uninfected level within 1.5 years after eradication. Patients with low DBP, high MPV, and low TP may reap a greater lipid-metabolism benefit from H. pylori eradication.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the association between γ-glutamyl transpeptidase to high-density lipoprotein ratio (GGT/HDL), triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TYG-BMI), and metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in a Chinese population with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) by cross-sectional analysis. To investigate the role of GGT/HDL played in MAFLD by TYG-BMI. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 1434 adult patients hospitalized with T2DM at Hebei General Hospital (Shijiazhuang, China) were included in the study. Patients' demographic and clinical data were collected. Spearman correlation was used to test for an association between GGT/HDL or TYG-BMI and related risk factors of MAFLD among T2DM patients. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate the association between GGT/HDL or TYG-BMI and MAFLD. Mediation analysis was used to explore whether TYG-BMI mediated the association between GGT/HDL and MAFLD. RESULTS A total of 1434 T2DM patients were enrolled, the MAFLD group showed a higher level of GGT/HDL compared to the non-MAFLD group. There was a progressive increase in the prevalence of MAFLD with increasing tertiles of GGT/HDL. After adjusting for confounding factors, multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that high levels of GGT/HDL were independent risk factors for MAFLD in T2DM patients. BMI further grouped the patients: ≤ 23kg/m2,>23kg/m2. GGT/HDL was found to be an independent risk factor for MAFLD but only in T2DM patients with a BMI greater than 23 kg/m2. Mediation analysis indicated that GGT/HDL had a significant direct effect on MAFLD. CONCLUSION GGT/HDL was positively associated with MAFLD incidence in T2DM patients with a BMI greater than 23 Kg/m2, and TYG-BMI partly mediated the association.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Short or long sleep duration has been associated with some major chronic diseases, but whether disease-related blood biomarkers vary according to habitual sleep duration is unclear. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess blood biomarker levels in relation to total sleep duration. METHODS The analysis includes 459,796 white British adults aged 40-69 during 2006-2010 in UK Biobank. At recruitment, blood samples and self-reported information on total sleep duration were collected from participants. A panel of blood biomarkers were measured. Using linear regression, we estimated geometric mean concentrations of blood biomarkers and mean ratio of ApoB/ApoA1 by sleep duration adjusted for sex, age at data collection, time of blood collection, and lifestyle covariates. RESULTS Percentage differences in the concentrations of most biomarkers by sleep duration were modest. The largest differences were for C-reactive protein (CRP, an inflammatory biomarker) and gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT, a liver function biomarker), and the differences were markedly attenuated after multivariable-adjustment. The multivariable-adjusted geometric means of CRP and of GGT were 14% and 14% higher in <6 h vs 7-8 h of sleep; and 22% and 12% higher in >9 h vs 7-8 h of sleep, respectively. CONCLUSION In white British adults, most blood biomarker levels varied only modestly with sleep duration and the remaining associations may be due to residual confounding.

Abstract
PURPOSE Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is a rare disease characterized by hepatic venous outflow tract obstruction. The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic utility of ultrasound in confirming the diagnosis of BCS and to provide an overview of the clinical picture. MATERIALS AND METHOD In this retrospective single-center study, patients with an initial diagnosis of BCS were included. The files were analyzed concerning the ultrasound images and compared to computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Main clinical signs of BCS were collected. RESULTS Data of 25 patients were analyzed. Doppler sonography showed the highest sensitivity (78.9%) with the highest specificity 97.4 (%) in confirming the correct diagnosis of BCS. Main imaging signs were obstruction in the hepatic veins (68.0%, 17/25 thrombotic), collaterals (91.7%, 11/12 intrahepatic), inhomogeneous liver parenchyma (7/21), and a hypertrophied lobus caudatus (18/21) (p < 0.01). All imaging signs could be detected with sonography. Hypertrophied lobus caudatus was seen exclusively in BCS. Furthermore, portal hypertension (9/25), liver cirrhosis (9/25), and ascites (19/25) can be diagnosed as non-specific signs of BCS (p < 0.01).The main clinical findings were elevated γ-GT levels in the laboratory (92.0%, 23/25, p < 0.01) and esophageal varices in endoscopy (12/25 p < 0.01). An association with myeloproliferative neoplasia (MPN) was frequently seen (10/25) (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION The present study demonstrates that sonography is an appropriate tool for the diagnosis of BCS and should be used as the first imaging procedure.

Abstract
Multiple pregnancies are prone to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study investigated the association between pregravid liver enzyme levels and the development of GDM in a twin pregnancy. Women who had the National Health Screening Examination and delivered their twin babies within one year were enrolled. Pregravid liver enzyme levels were divided into high and low level. Risks for developing GDM by high levels of liver enzymes were analyzed, in subgroups by pregravid obesity or metabolic syndrome. Among the 4348 twin pregnancies, 369 women (8.5%) developed GDM not requiring insulin treatment (GDM - IT), and 119 women (2.7%) developed GDM requiring insulin treatment(GDM + IT). High levels of pregravid GGT and ALT were related to risks of GDM + IT not only in women with obesity or metabolic syndrome (odds ratio[OR] 6.348, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.579-15.624 and OR 6.879, 95% CI 2.232-21.204, respectively), but also in women without obesity (OR 3.05, 95% CI 1.565-5.946) or without metabolic syndrome (OR 3.338, 95% CI 1.86-5.992), compared to in women with low levels of those. However, there were no significant associations in the pregravid ALT and GGT levels and risks for development of GDM - IT, unrelated to pregravid obesity or metabolic syndrome. Therefore, this study suggests that women with high levels of pregravid GGT and ALT need to recognize their increased risk of GDM + IT, regardless of pregravid obesity or MetS, when they get pregnant twin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) to albumin ratio (GAR) has been shown to be helpful to diagnose and determine the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a guide recommended non-invasive test that provides information about the presence, severity, and morphology of coronary plaques. In this study, our main aim was to investigate the relationship between the presence, morphology, and severity of coronary plaques detected via CCTA and GAR in patients with low to moderate risk for undiagnosed CAD. METHODS Nine hundred and sixty six patients were included who underwent CCTA. The severity of CAD and plaque morphology were investigated. CT-adapted Leaman score (CT-LeSc) was calculated to determine the extent of the CAD. The study population was further evaluated in three groups according to tertiles of GAR. RESULTS Atherosclerotic plaques were more common in the male gender and older patients with conventional cardiovascular risk factors. GAR was significantly lower in patients with normal CCTA than in patients with a non-obstructive plaque or obstructive plaque on CCTA. Patients in upper GAR tertiles had a higher coronary calcium score (CACS) and CT-LeSc. GAR was one of the independent predictors to predict severe stenotic plaque and high CACS. CONCLUSION GAR can independently predict the presence, extent, and severity of CAD determined by CT-LeSc. We believe as a cheap, safe, and widely available tool, GAR would be useful in the diagnosis of CAD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Despite the strong correlation between elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and hypertension, their bi-directional and temporal relationship are currently unclear. Our study aimed to explore the bi-directional and temporal association between elevated ALT (ALT > 40 U/L) and hypertension. METHODS Measurements of alanine aminotransferase and blood pressure were obtained twice from 2013 to 2017 in 3314 Chinese adults without cardiovascular disease at baseline. Bi-directional and cross-lagged panel analyses were performed to dissect the temporal relationship between elevated ALT and hypertension. RESULTS Longitudinally, we found that baseline elevated ALT was strongly correlated with incident hypertension (odds ratios = 2.16, P = .001), and baseline hypertension was also significantly associated with incident elevated ALT (odds ratios = 1.64, P = .026). The cross-lagged path coefficients from baseline ALT to follow-up blood pressure were significantly greater than that from baseline blood pressure to follow-up ALT (β: 0.043 vs. 0.026, P < .05 for systolic blood pressure and β: 0.052 vs. 0.024, P < .05 for diastolic blood pressure). CONCLUSION Our results provide evidence for the bi-directional association of elevated ALT and hypertension among Chinese adults, and elevated ALT probably antedates the development of hypertension.

Abstract
Introduction To investigate weight status, insulin resistance assessed by HOMA-IR, and their interaction on liver function in non-diabetic Chinese adults. Methods and results A total of 7066 subjects were included, and divided into normal weight (n = 3447), overweight (n = 2801), and obese (n = 818) groups. Data including weight, height, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, total cholesterol, triglycerides, y-glutamyl transferase (GGT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were acquired. In multi-linear regression analysis for liver enzymes as dependent variables, insulin resistance emerged as a determinant of ALT (β = 0.165, P<0.001), AST (β = 0.040, P<0.001) and GGT (β = 0.170, P<0.001) after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, triglyceride, and cholesterol. Interactions between insulin resistance and weight status by body mass index were observed in ALT (P<0.001), AST (P<0.001) and GGT (P = 0.0418). Conclusion Insulin resistance had significant associations with greater risk of elevated ALT, AST and GGT level in non-diabetic Chinese adults, especially among those who were overweight/ obese.

Abstract
Background: Higher serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) is associated with high risk of hypertension. We aimed to examine the association between sex-specific serum GGT levels and incident of hypertension in a Chinese population without metabolic syndrome. Methods: Participants who were free of hypertension and metabolic syndrome from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between 2009 and 2014 were included. Participants were grouped into sex-specific quartiles of GGT levels (Q1-Q4) defined as: ≤19, 20-26, 27-38, and ≥39 U/L for male; ≤12, 13-15, 16-19, and ≥20 U/L for female. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incidence of hypertension according to sex-specific quartiles of GGT levels. Kaplan-Meier analysis and interaction analysis were conducted. Results: Among 38,806 participants included (average age 36.0 years, 54.0% men), 4,505 of them developed hypertension. In the overall study population, using Q1 as the reference group, participants in Q2, Q3, and Q4 showed a higher risk of developing hypertension, with HRs (95% CIs) of 1.126 (1.029-1.232), 1.187 (1.083-1.302), and 1.300 (1.182-1.431), respectively (P < 0.001), after adjusting for known confounders. Sex-specific analysis showed that the adjusted HRs for participants in Q4 (reference: Q1) were greater in females [1.321 (1.100-1.586, P < 0.001)] than in males [1.268 (1.133-1.420, P < 0.001)] (P for interaction = 0.047). Moreover, interaction analysis showed that this association was consistently observed when the participants were stratified by age, body mass index, and fatty liver status. Conclusion: Among Chinese adults without metabolic syndrome, serum GGT level was positively associated with incidence of hypertension, and the association was stronger in females than in males.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Elevated liver enzymes are associated with later development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study was to assess the association between prepregnancy liver enzyme levels and subsequent risk of gestational diabetes mellitus. METHODS Data from a total of 236,109 women who participated in the National Health Screening Examination between 2011 and 2015 was analysed. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate the risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus in relation to pregravid liver enzyme levels. Subgroup analyses were performed according to pregravid obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS). RESULTS Approximately 5.7% and 1.1% of women developed gestational diabetes mellitus with and without insulin treatment requirement respectively. Pregravid gamma-glutamyl transferase and alanine aminotransferase levels with greater than or equal to the 4th quartile were associated with significantly increased risks of gestational diabetes mellitus requiring insulin treatment in women with obesity and with MetS, (odds ratios [ORs] with 6.228 and 9.505, respectively, P < .001 for both). In women without obesity and without MetS, the risks of gestational diabetes mellitus requiring insulin treatment were also significant (ORs with 2.837 and 3.029, respectively, P < .001 for both). The elevated pregravid liver enzymes were associated with gestational diabetes mellitus without insulin treatment requirement, but minimally. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION The elevated pregravid liver enzyme levels were significantly associated with the subsequent risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, especially gestational diabetes mellitus requiring insulin treatment, not only in women with obesity or MetS, but also in women without obesity or MetS.

ABSTRACT
The enzymatic characteristics of γ-glutamyltranspeptidase were elucidated. The catalytic nucleophile of the enzymatic reaction of Escherichia coli γ-glutamyltranspeptidase was identified as the Oγ of the N-terminal Thr-residue of the small subunit. It was demonstrated that the inactive precursor of γ-glutamyltranspeptidase is processed autocatalytically and intramolecularly into the active heterodimeric mature enzyme via an ester intermediate. The catalytic nucleophile of this processing reaction was identified as the same Oγ atom of the N-terminal Thr-residue of the small subunit. These results were also supported by the three-dimensional structures of the γ-glutamyl enzyme intermediate and of the precursor-mimicked T391A nonprocessable mutant enzyme. Applications of transpeptidation and hydrolysis activities of bacterial γ-glutamyltranspeptidases were developed. Using transpeptidation activity, efficient enzymatic production of useful γ-glutamyl compounds, such as prodrug for Parkinson's disease, theanine and kokumi compound, was enabled. Hydrolysis activity was used as glutaminase and the mutant enzymes gaining glutaryl-7-aminocephalosporanic acid acylase activity were isolated.

Abstract
Background Although elevated serum gamma‐glutamyltransferase (GGT) is a known indicator of increased risk of several cancers, the clinical value of repeated measurements of GGT has not been determined. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether repeatedly elevated serum GGT levels are associated with the risk of respiratory cancer incidence. Methods We included participants who had undergone the Korean Health screening four times during 2009–2012 and had previously undergone four consecutive examinations. Those who were diagnosed with respiratory cancer before the date of examination were excluded. The participants obtained one GGT point if their GGT levels were in the highest quartile (the quartile 4 group). We analyzed the association between GGT points and respiratory cancer incidence by Cox proportional hazard models. Results During mean follow‐up of 6.39 ± 1.2 years, 3,559,109 participants were enrolled. Of them, 8,944 (0.34%) men and 1,484 (0.14%) women were newly diagnosed with respiratory cancer. In multivariate analysis adjusted for confounding factors, male participants with 4 GGT points had a significantly higher hazards of developing respiratory cancer than those with 0 GGT points (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.39; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31–1.48). Among female, participants with the highest points of GGT also had sixfold increased risk of developing laryngeal cancer. However, no significant association was observed between GGT points and lung cancer incidence among women (HR: 0.95; 95% CI: 0.81–1.11). Conclusion Repeatedly elevated serum levels of GGT were associated with a higher risk of respiratory cancer incidence, especially in men. This finding suggests that physicians can identify a person with a higher risk of respiratory cancer through a simple repeated measurement of GGT.

Abstract
Population specific associations between cardiovascular disease with various risk factors including pre-hypertension and hypertension were reported. We aimed to investigate the association of higher than optimal blood pressure with measures of dysglycemia, dyslipidemia, and markers of inflammation in non-diabetic Saudi adults hoping to improve current Saudi guidelines to prevent cardiovascular disease. Volunteers were recruited randomly from public healthcare centers in Jeddah. Demographic information, blood pressure (BP), and anthropometric measurements were taken. Fasting blood samples were drawn, then again following 1-hour oral glucose tolerance test. Glycated hemoglobin, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), lipid profile, highly sensitive C- reactive protein, gamma glutamyl transferase, and 1-hour plasma glucose were measured. Complete data was found for 742 men and 592 women. Pre-hypertension was found in 47.2% of men, and 24.7% of women, while 15.1% of men, and 14.6% of women were hypertensive. Means of measured variables differed significantly between normotensive, pre-hypertensive, and hypertensive groups of men and women in gender specific manner. Association between measured variables and elevated BP, and hypertension were assessed using logistic regression models. After adjustment for age, body mass index and waist circumference, elevated blood pressure was associated with elevated triglycerides in men, while hypertension was significantly associated with elevated fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein- cholesterol, and low high density lipoprotein- cholesterol in men, and elevated triglycerides, and total cholesterol in women. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to measure lipid profile, specifically TG, for all diagnosed pre-hypertensive and hypertensive patients in addition to FPG for men.

Abstract
Background Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has recently been reported as a biomarker for cardiovascular (CVD) risk in general populations. We investigated the associations of GGT with cardio-metabolic diseases and CVD risk in South Africans living with HIV. Methods In this cross-sectional study, HIV-infected adults were randomly recruited across 17 HIV clinics in the Western Cape Province. Homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome by Joint Interim Statement criteria (JIS-MS), a ≥5% and ≥10% predicted risk for a CVD event within 10 years by the Framingham risk score (10-years-CVD risk) were computed. Associations between GGT and cardio-metabolic trait were explored using linear and binomial logistic regressions adjusted for age, gender, lifestyle behaviours and HIV-related characteristics. Results Among 709 participants (561 women, mean age 38.6 years), log-GGT was positively associated with waist circumference (β=2.75; p<0.001), diastolic blood pressure (β=1.65; p=0.006), total cholesterol (β=0.21; p<0.001), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (β=0.16; p<0.001), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and log-triglycerides (both β=0.12; p<0.001), fasting plasma glucose (β=0.19; p=0.031), 2-hour-post-glucose-load plasma glucose (β=0.26; p=0.007), HOMA-IR (β=0.13; p=0.001), log-high-sensitivity C-reactive-protein (β=0.3; p<0.001) in linear regression analyses; with hypertension [OR=1.41 (95%CI, 1.13-1.75); p=0.001], JIS-MS [OR=1.33 (1.05-1.68); p=0.016], ≥5% 10-year-CVD risk [OR=1.55 (1.24-1.9400); p<0.001] and ≥10% 10-year-CVD risk [OR=1.56 (1.08-2.23); p=0.016] but not with diabetes [OR=1.24 (0.88-1.71), p=0.205] in logistic regression analyses. Conclusions In this study, GGT levels were associated with cardio-metabolic variables independent of HIV specific attributes. If confirmed in longitudinal studies, GGT evaluation maybe included in CVD risk monitoring strategies in people living with HIV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association between elevated γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) at a certain point and incident cancer has been suggested; however, no study has evaluated the association between repeatedly elevated GGT and cancer incidence.
AIM To investigate the effects of repeatedly elevated GGT on the incidence of digestive cancers.
METHODS Participants who had undergone health screening from 2009 to 2012 and 4 consecutive previous examinations were enrolled. GGT points were calculated as the number of times participants met the criteria of quartile 4 of GGT in four serial measurements (0-4 points). Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models were applied.
RESULTS In total, 3559109 participants were included; among them, 43574 digestive cancers developed during a median of 6.8 years of follow-up. The incidence of total digestive cancers increased in a dose-response manner in men [adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) compared with those with 0 GGT points = 1.28 and 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.24-1.33 in those with 1 point; aHR = 1.40 and 95%CI = 1.35-1.46 in those with 2 points; aHR = 1.52 and 95%CI = 1.46-1.58 in those with 3 points; aHR = 1.88 and 95%CI = 1.83-1.94 in those with 4 points; P for trend < 0.001]. This trend was more prominent in men than in women and those with healthy habits (no smoking, no alcohol consumption, and a low body mass index) than in those with unhealthy habits.
CONCLUSION Repeatedly elevated GGT levels were associated with an increased risk of incident digestive cancer in a dose-responsive manner, particularly in men and those with healthy habits. Repeated GGT measurements may be a good biomarker of incident digestive cancer and could help physicians identify high-risk populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Limited data exist on the association between dietary patterns (DPs) and enzymes mainly produced by the liver. This study aimed to examine the relationship between empirically derived DPs and serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels in addition to the alanine/aspartate aminotransferase ratio. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on adults in the baseline phase of the Shahedieh cohort study in Yazd, Iran. Blood samples were taken from participants in a fasted state to provide data on dietary intake and other variables. Major DPs were derived using a principal component analysis. RESULTS In total, 4973 participants (age 46.33 ± 9.08 y) were included in the study. Three DPs were derived: Traditional diet (high in vegetables, fruits, tomatoes, dairy, dried fruits, fruit juice, yogurt, olive and olive oil, sweet desserts, and high-fat dairy products), western diet (high in pizza, refined grains, soft drinks, high-fat dairy products, processed meats, mayonnaise, and snack foods), and hydrogenated fat and sugar diet (high in hydrogenated fat, potatoes, sugars, and legumes). After adjustment for all confounders, the western DP had a significant linear association with serum GGT (P < 0.001). This diet was also associated with higher odds for developing abnormal levels of serum GGT (Ptrend < 0.001). Although the other DPs had some linear associations with enzymes levels, they were not associated with the likelihood for developing abnormally high liver enzymes levels. CONCLUSIONS A higher consumption of a western DP might adversely affect serum GGT levels. Prospective studies are recommended to confirm our results.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Low cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and low CRF is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The factors that influence CRF in NAFLD are poorly understood and it has been suggested that reduced hepatic mitochondrial function (HMF) may be linked to low CRF. Therefore, our aim was to determine the factors associated with CRF in NAFLD. METHODS Ninety-seven patients with NAFLD were studied. CRF was assessed by treadmill testing and expressed as maximal O2 consumption (VO2 peak) per lean body mass. HMF was assessed by the 13 C-ketoisocaproate breath test. Multivariable linear regression modelling was undertaken to test the independence of associations with CRF. RESULTS Mean (SD) age was 51 (13) years and 61% were men. With CRF as the outcome, age (B coefficient -0.3, 95%CI -0.4, -0.2, P < .0001), total body fat mass (B coefficient -0.2, 95%CI -0.3, -0.05, P = .01), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (B coefficient -3.6, 95%CI -1.1, -6.1, P = .005), smoking status (B coefficient -5.7, 95%CI -1.9, -9.5, P = .004), serum γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT) (B coefficient -0.04, 95%CI -0.05, -0.02, P < .0001), HMF (B coefficient -0.5, 95%CI -0.8, -0.1, P = .01) and diastolic function (B coefficient 0.1, 95%CI 0.05, 0.13, P < .0001) were independently associated with CRF. This model explained 60% of the total variance in CRF (R2 = 0.6, P < .0001); and this model with GGT alone explained 24% of the variance in CRF. CONCLUSIONS In patients with NAFLD, HMF is independently associated with CRF and a model with GGT alone explained most of the variance in CRF.

Abstract
Background We aimed to investigate the efficacy of the lifestyle intervention (LSI) program in controlling blood glucose regulation and health promotion in type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients. Methods Thirty adults with a diagnosed with diabetes were randomly assigned to LSI and control groups. The LSI group maintained their daily routines after participating twice in the LSI program, while control group maintained 4 weeks of daily life without participating in an intervention. Results HbA1c levels in the LSI group decreased significantly after participation (p = 0.025) compared with levels before the study, but there was no significant difference between the groups. The weight and body mass index (BMI) of the LSI group tended to decrease significantly compared with the control group (p = 0.054 and p = 0.055, respectively), and the waist circumference (WC) of the LSI group decreased significantly compared with that of the control group (p = 0.048). In the effects of the LSI program according to the polymorphism of GCKR genes, changes in glycated albumin (GA) (%), HbA1c, WC, BMI, and weight showed a significant decrease in the non-risk (TT genotype) GCKR group compared with the risk group (CC and TC genotype). Conclusion Application of the four-week LSI program to diabetics revealed positive effects on blood-glucose control and improvement in obesity indicators. In particular, the risk group with variations in the GCKR gene was associated with more genetic effects on indicators such as blood glucose and obesity than was the non-risk group.

Abstract
Hypertension and dyslipidemia often occur as comorbidities, with both being strong risk factors for developing cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Abnormal liver function test could reflect a potential CVD risk even in patients with mild dyslipidemia. The aim of this study was to assess the compounding relationship between liver enzymes and cardiovascular risk factors in subjects with mild dyslipidemia. The present analysis was performed among 438 participants who had enrolled in at least one of the nine clinical studies done at the Chonbuk National University Hospital between 2009 and 2019. Significant linear increasing trends were observed in blood pressure level and other cardiovascular risk factors across quartiles of serum γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) or alanine aminotransferase (ALT), with the increment in hypertension prevalence occurring across the quartiles of GGT and ALT. On multivariate logistic regression analyses, the odds ratios for hypertension, adjusted for smoking, drinking and obesity, in the highest quartiles of GGT, ALT, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase were 3.688, 1.617, 1.372, and 1.166, respectively. Our study indicates that GGT is a superior marker for predicting CVD risk among liver enzymes. Routine screening of plasma GGT levels in patients with mild dyslipidemia will allow for early detection of CVD.

Abstract
Background Recently, clinical research has suggested that red ginseng components play a role in liver protection and combating fatigue. However, fermented ginseng has not been analyzed for liver-protective or anti-fatigue effects. Objective This study evaluates the positive effects of fermented ginseng powder (GBCK25) on liver function. Methods Ninety participants with elevated alanine aminotransferase levels (35 ≤ ALT ≤1 05 IU/L) were randomized to one of three groups. The participants were treated with GBCK25 tablets at a dose of 500 mg/day (high dose), 125 mg/day (low dose), or placebo group daily for 12 weeks. The primary outcomes included changes in ALT and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels. The secondary outcomes included changes in aspartate amino-transferase (AST), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), multidimensional fatigue scale, lipid profile, and antioxidant markers. Results In male subjects, after 12 weeks of low-dose GBCK25 (125 mg) supplementation, the GGT (P = 0.036) and hs-CRP (P = 0.021) levels decreased significantly more than those in the placebo group. High-dose GBCK25 (500 mg) supplementation significantly decreased the fatigue score compared with the placebo group. There were no clinically significant differences between the groups when studying any safety parameter. Conclusion Our results suggest that GBCK25 supplementation has beneficial effects on liver function. Trial registration This study was registered at Clinical Trials.gov (NCT03260543).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertension is a major contributing factor to cardiovascular disease and is a leading cause of death in the world. The association between hepatic enzymes and hypertension has been reported in limited studies and the findings are inconsistent; data from Bangladeshi adults are not available yet. This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of elevated liver enzymes and evaluate the association of elevated liver enzymes with hypertension in Bangladeshi adults. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 302 blood samples were collected from adult participants and analyzed the serum concentrations of alanine and aspartate aminotransferase (ALT, AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and other markers related to hypertension. Hypertension was defined as resting SBP ≥ 140 mmHg and/or DBP ≥ 90 mmHg. Associations between elevated liver enzymes and hypertension were evaluated by multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS The mean concentrations of serum ALT, AST and GGT were significantly higher in the hypertensive group compared to the normotensive group (p < 0.01, p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively). Overall, 49.2% of subjects in the hypertensive group and 38.1% of individuals in the normotensive group had at least one or more elevated liver enzymes. The prevalence of elevated ALT, AST, and GGT was significantly higher among participants in the hypertensive group compared to the normotensive group (p < 0.01, p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively). An increasing trend for elevated liver enzymes was observed with increasing blood pressure. Serum ALT and GGT showed an independent relationship with hypertension. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of elevated liver enzymes was higher in hypertensive individuals. Increased serum ALT and GGT activities were positively associated with hypertension in Bangladeshi adults.

Abstract
High levels of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) are associated with increased diabetes risk. In the present study, we investigated the combined effects of ALT and GGT on the development of diabetes in a Korean population. A total of 9405 individuals (4020 women and 5385 men) without diabetes were enrolled in this study. From the baseline health screening to the follow-up examination, the development of diabetes, based on changes in ALT and GGT quartile levels, was analyzed. In addition, we analyzed the quartiles of ALT and GGT together to determine any synergistic effect from the fourth quartile of ALT and GGT on the development of diabetes. The development of diabetes gradually increased with an increase in the circulating levels of ALT and GGT. For the fourth quartile ALT and GGT, the hazard ratios of diabetes compared with the first quartile were 1.892 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.26-2.83, P = .002) and 3.526 (95% CI: 2.12-5.85, P < .001) after adjusting for confounders, respectively. Hazard ratios of diabetes after combining both fourth quartiles of ALT and GGT were 3.663 (95% CI: 2.42-5.52, P < .001), as compared with the first and second quartiles. Serum ALT and GGT levels are well associated with diabetes in Koreans after adjusting for confounders, and a combination of ALT and GGT levels can have a synergy in predicting the development of diabetes.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the association between baseline serum gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and incident diabetes mellitus and to explore their dose-response relationship in a cohort of Japanese adults. Patients and Methods. Data were drawn from the NAGALA (NAfld in the Gifu Area, Longitudinal Analysis) study between 2004 and 2015, including hierarchical information on participants ≥18 years of age without diabetes mellitus, preexisting diabetes mellitus, heavy alcohol drinking, or other liver diseases (e.g., hepatitis B/C). The final analytic sample included 15464 participants, 373 of who were diagnosed as diabetes mellitus with a maximum 13-year follow-up. The risk of incident diabetes mellitus according to baseline serum GGT was estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazards models and a two-piecewise linear regression model was developed to find out the threshold effect. RESULTS Being in the highest quintile versus the lowest quintile of GGT levels was associated with an almost twofold increased risk of incident diabetes mellitus (hazard ratio 1.83 (95% CI 1.06, 3.15)), independent of age, gender, smoking status, alcohol intake, BMI, SBP, triglycerides, fatty liver, ALT, AST, and fasting plasma glucose. Further analysis revealed a positive curvilinear association between GGT and incident diabetes mellitus, with a saturation effect predicted at 24 IU/L. When serum GGT level was less than 24 IU/L, the risk of developing diabetes mellitus increased significantly with an increase in serum GGT levels (HR 1.04 (1.02, 1.07), P=0.0017). Besides, the association was more significant in nonsmoking participants than ex- or current-smokers (P=0.0017). CONCLUSION Serum GGT level was a significant predictor of subsequent risk of diabetes mellitus, which increased by 4% for every 1 IU/L increase in GGT when GGT was less than 24 IU/L.

Abstract
Background Accumulating evidence suggests that Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) may be involved in cancer occurrence and progression. However, the prognostic role of serum GGT in pancreatic cancer (PC) survival lacks adequate evaluation. In this study, we aimed to analyze the association between serum GGT measured at diagnosis and overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic PC. Methods We identified 320 patients with histopathologically confirmed metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) diagnosed during 2015 and 2016 at a specialized cancer hospital in southwestern China. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional-hazards models were used to determine associations between serum GGT and OS in metastatic PDAC. Results Controlled for possible confounding factors, serum GGT was significantly associated with OS: serum GGT > 48 U/L yielded a hazard ratio of 1.53 (95% CI: 1.19–1.97) for mortality risk. A significant dose-response association between serum GGT and OS was also observed. Subgroup analysis showed a possible interaction between GGT and blood glucose level. Conclusion Serum GGT could be a potential indicator of survival in metastatic PDAC patients. Underlying mechanisms for this association should be investigated.
