Abstract
BACKGROUND The upper limb is crucial for functioning in everyday life, thus comprehensive assessment is crucial for physically active people to monitor the effect of exercise and prevent injuries. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between upper limb function, shoulder mobility, and posture in individuals who participate in recreational strength training. METHODS Thirty-four subjects who engaged in strength training of the upper limbs were divided into two groups: Group 1 (exercise < 3 years) and Group 2 (exercise ≥ 3 years). Lateral scapular slide tests, head and clavicle posture evaluations, and shoulder mobility and closed kinetic chain tests were performed. RESULTS Group 1 had a greater flexion deficit in both shoulders than Group 2. There was greater external rotation in the non-dominant shoulder and a greater score of the closed kinetic chain test in Group 2 compared to Group 1. There were no statistically significant differences between groups regarding scapula, clavicle, and head posture. The closed kinetic chain test was correlated with a scapula position and symmetry in shoulder flexion in Group 2. CONCLUSIONS Long-term strength training of the upper limbs can be recommended to improve functional abilities in the closed kinetic chain, increase shoulder mobility, and reduce asymmetry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The association between physical activity and diet has a valuable impact in weight status management to counteract obesity. In this context, within different training strategies (i.e., endurance, resistance training, concurrent training, agility training) the Integrative Neuromuscular Training (INT) represents a structured training mode focused on global human movement pattern development with the aim to enhance motor control, mobility and stability. In this narrative review we aimed to discuss the feasibility of INT interventions on physical fitness and body composition outcomes in individuals with obesity. SUBJECTS Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Google Scholar including were searched before 1st February 2023 without restrictions on publication year. METHODS Two researchers extracted data from published trials. Randomized controlled trials or clinical trials, Body Mass Index of children and adolescents at the 95% percentile or greater, and for adults to be above 30 kg/m2, detailed intervention description, randomization process and allocation into an experimental or a control group, trials must have been written in English, were included. RESULTS We included a total of 19 studies complying with the inclusion criteria for the review process. There is evidence that INT promotes positive adaptations in fitness levels in both younger and older participants with concomitant ameliorations during a shorter, medium and longer time period. Moreover, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, balance, postural control and body composition reached significant remarkable improvements following a specific intervention based on INT principles compared to other training mode. However, Body Mass Index, fat mass percentage and waist circumference showed similar changes overtime. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, these findings support the effectiveness of INT in ameliorating physical fitness (i.e., health-related and skill related components) without negative changes in body composition. Nevertheless, fitness coaches and therapists may consider this training modality a feasible option when prescribing physical exercise in outpatients with obesity.

Abstract
Background Individuals with overweight and obesity (OW/OB) have poor performance in weight-bearing exercises, resulting in low functional capacity. The dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) technique was created to engage the core-postural chain in conjunction with the core muscles, generating enough intra-abdominal pressure to dynamically support the spine through muscular activity. DNS is a strategy that emphasizes the activation of the spine's intrinsic stabilizers, as well as proper breathing patterns, before any intended functional movement. The aim and objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the DNS technique on functional capacity in OW/OB individuals and to compare the effectiveness of the DNS and conventional approach. Methods The study recruited 100 individuals, who were separated into an experimental group (DNS technique) and a control group (conventional exercises), each with 50 participants. Outcome measures, including a six-minute walk test (SMW test) and body mass index (BMI), were taken pre-treatment and post-treatment. Results and discussion Based on the inclusion criteria of this study, the age group included was 20 to 25 years old. Pre- and post-treatment statistically significant changes were observed in the experimental and control groups in the BMI and SMW test. However, the BMI (kg/m2) was not statistically significant in the experimental group (t-value=-0.15, p=0.87) and control group (t-value=-0.22, p=0.82). Moreover, in the SMW test (meter), no statistical significance was found in the experimental group (t-value=-0.15, p=0.87) and control group (t-value=- 0.22, p=0.82). Conclusions Both groups are effective in increasing the functional capacity of obese and overweight individuals. The study indicates a strong need for further research into its long-term effectiveness in the OW/OB population.

Abstract
Exergames are defined as digital games that require bodily movements to play, stimulating an active gaming experience to function as a form of physical activity (PA). The players interact with the game through whole-body movements improving energy expenditure. Exergames may be effective in improving physical and psychological aspects of children and adolescents with obesity. In this narrative review, we synthesized the current evidence regarding the role of exergames in modifying body composition and weight and in promoting changes in sedentary behavior to define the benefits of active video games as useful tools for fighting sedentarism and to outline the future directions of exergaming as a supplementation exercise rather than a replacement in educational programs for pediatric obesity. Data from the literature indicate that exergames may offer an interesting impact on childhood obesity and may be considered a potential strategy for controlling weight gain and body composition, promote PA, and decrease time spent on sedentary behavior in children and adolescents with obesity. However, exergame use also has some limits, such as children's poor self-regulation and poor structuring of exergame use. Therefore, a prudent approach should be maintained, and additional high-quality research is needed to determine if exergames can be effectively used in the treatment of childhood obesity and if new digital media, as a supplementation of exercise rather than a replacement, could be considered to combat sedentary behavior in educational programs for pediatric obesity prevention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim: To develop, substantiate and experimentally test the methodology for the development of coordination abilities in 6-10 years old boys with postural disorders during their physical education training sessions. PATIENTS AND METHODS Materials and methods: The experimental (EG) and the control groups (CG) were formed to organize the pedagogical experiment. The EG included 17 boys and the CG consisted of 19 boys. The EG was engaged in sports activities according the developed methodology and the CG followed the current school curricula on physical education. RESULTS Results: The methodology for the development of coordination abilities in 6-10 years old boys with postural disorders in the process of their physical education has been developed. Its peculiarity lies in the accentuated influence on the vestibular, motor and visual analyzers with the help of a system of exercises aimed at controlling movements in space in static positions and during movement. CONCLUSION Conclusions: The obtained results testify to the effectiveness of the developed methodology. The EG boys had significantly higher indicators of static balance and coordination abilities at body position change, as well as general coordination of movements (p ≤ 0.05) at the end of the academic year than those of the CG. In addition, the number of 6-10 years old boys with various postural disorders decreased by 7.4 % (from 26.8 % to 19.4 %).

Abstract
Obesity is associated with various dysfunctions of the organism, including musculoskeletal problems. In this narrative review, we aim to consider postural problems in children and adolescents with obesity, focusing on the relationship with its negative impact on physical activity, and to discuss the role of exercise as a therapeutic approach. The body reacts to excess weight by changing its normal balance, and the somatosensory system of children with obesity is forced to make major adjustments to compensate for postural problems. These adaptations become more difficult and tiring if activities that require continuous postural changes and multi-tasking are engaged in. Children with obesity have less body control and functional ability due to the excess fat mass, which reduces their ability to perform motor skills and take part in physical activity. Appropriate early interventions for the management of musculoskeletal problems are needed to ensure healthy growth and to prevent comorbidities in childhood and adulthood. Prevention programs must be based not only on the reduction of body weight but also on the definition of correct postural habits from an early age. It is equally important to provide correct information on the types and doses of physical activity that can help prevent these problems.

Abstract
Aim: To develop, substantiate and experimentally test the method of correction of body posture disorders in 6-10-years-old girls in the process of their coordination skills development.
Materials and Methods: The research involved 138 girls including 40 girls who had various deviations in body posture development and 98 girls without body posture disorders. The experimental (EG) and the control group (CG) of 20 girls each were formed to organize the experiment. The EG was engaged according to the developed method of correction of body posture disorders, the CG – according to the current school curricula of physical education.
Results: It was found that 29.0 % of primary high schoolers have various deviations in body posture development. Kyphotic body posture is observed in 80.6 % of cases and scoliotic body posture – in 19.4% of cases. The research determined the relationship between the level of coordination manifestation and the state of body posture in schoolers, in particular the presence of abnormalities in its development. The method of correction of body posture disorders in 6-10-years-old girls during physical education training sessions was developed.
Conclusions: The obtained results indicate the effectiveness of the developed method. The EG girls revealed significantly better indicators of motion coordination and coordination skills when changing body position as well as static balance than the CG girls (p≤0.05). The number of girls with various deviations in body posture development decreased by 9.9%.

Abstract
COVID-19 restrictions have dramatically reduced the active lifestyle and physical activity (PA) levels in the whole population, a situation that can contribute to weight gain and to develop obesity. To improve physical fitness (PF) in children with obesity during COVID-19 restrictions, sport specialists started to deliver physical training through tele-exercise. For these reasons, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 12-week online supervised training program in children with obesity on different PF components and PA levels. We enrolled a total of 40 Caucasian children (9 F/31 M; aged 11 ± 1.9 years) with obesity. The data collection consisted of a series of anthropometric measures, the PAQ-C questionnaire, and PF tests, valid and reliable tools to assess PF in children. We used a Wilcoxon’s t-test and a Student’s t-test, as appropriate, to assess the differences before and after the training protocol. A total of 37 patients completed the training protocol and were considered in the analysis. Our results show an improvement in all the PF tests, a reduction in the BMI z-score, the waist circumference, and in the waist-to-height ratio, and an increased PA level. In conclusion, the results of our study show that an online supervised training program is effective to promote PA, improving PF and reducing the BMI z-score in children with obesity.

Abstract
Objective To analyze whether 13 weeks of integrative neuromuscular training can benefit spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters of gait in children with overweight/obesity. Methods This is a non‐randomized controlled trial. Fifty children (10.77 ± 1.24 years, 31 girls) with overweight/obesity were allocated to an exercise group (EG) (n = 25) that carried out a 13‐week exercise program based on fundamental movement skills, strength activities and aerobic training, and a control group (CG) (n = 25) that followed their normal lifestyle. Spatiotemporal (i.e., cadence, stance and support times, step length, and stride width) and kinematic (i.e., hip, pelvis, knee, and ankle angles) parameters were evaluated under laboratory conditions through a 3D analysis. ANCOVA was used to test raw and z‐score differences between the EG and CG at post‐exercise, adjusting for pre‐exercise values. Results The EG maintained their baseline stance and single‐limb support times while the CG increased them during walking (groups’ difference: 3.1 and 1.9 centiseconds). The EG maintained baseline maximum foot abduction angle during the stance phase whereas the CG showed an increase (groups’ difference: 3.9º). Additional analyses on kinematic profiles demonstrated that the EG walked with similar pelvic tilt and ankle abduction angles at post‐exercise, while the CG increased the pelvic anterior tilt in the whole stance phase (mean groups’ difference: 7.7º) and the ankle abduction angles in early‐ and mid‐stance phases (mean groups’ difference: 4.6º). No changes were observed in the rest of spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters. Conclusions The integrative neuromuscular training stopped the progression of some biomechanical alterations during walking in children with overweight/obesity. These findings could contribute to preventing common movement‐derived musculoskeletal disorders in this population, as well as preserving an optimal mechanical efficiency during walking.

Abstract
Youth who are obese or overweight demonstrate evidence of poor lower extremity joint health and alterations in gait characteristics compared with youth who are healthy weight. However, there is no consensus if altered movement patterns are still present during high-impact activities. The purpose of this review was to determine if spatiotemporal and kinematic and kinetic variables during high-impact activities were significantly different between youth who are overweight and obese compared with youth who are healthy weight. An electronic search of five databases was conducted, and a meta-analysis and qualitative evidence synthesis was performed to determine the level of evidence, analyzing three tasks: running, jumping, and hopping. The findings of this review include the following: (1) overweight/obese (OW/OB) had higher stance phase time during running, (2) OW/OB had decreased hip flexion angles during running and stationary running, (3) OW/OB had decreased knee flexion angles during landing phase of jumping and hopping, and (4) OW/OB had increased hip abduction moments during running and jumping. These altered kinematic and kinetic variables at the hip and knee may result in mechanical inefficiency with high-impact activities, as well as potentially increased risk of joint degradation and poor joint health into adulthood.

Abstract
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a skeletal disorder characterised by a predisposition to recurrent fractures and bone deformities. Clinically OI is defined by features such as short stature, however, less is known regarding body composition. Assess body composition, both lean mass and fat mass, in a paediatric OI population. Children with OI attending the Bone service at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow were included; who had a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan performed 2015-2018. Height and body-mass-index (BMI) were converted to standard-deviation scores (SDS) using UK population references. DXA-derived lean mass and fat mass were used to generate lean-mass-index (LMI) and fat-mass-index (FMI) by dividing the covariates by height squared. LMI and FMI were converted to age-and-gender-adjusted SDS using DXA data from 198 local healthy children. Thirty-eight children (20 males) with median age 11.95 (range: 4.8, 18.3) years were included. Median height SDS was -1.08 (-3.64, 1.62) and was significantly lower than the healthy population (p<0.0001). Median BMI SDS was -0.10 (-2.31, 2.95), and not significantly different from the healthy population (p = 0.53). Median LMI SDS was -2.52 (-6.94, 0.77), and significantly lower than healthy controls (p<0.0001); 61% (23/38) had an SDS below -2.0. Median FMI SDS was 0.69 (-0.45, 2.72), significantly higher than healthy controls (p < 0.0001). BMI SDS cut-offs of -0.15 and 1.33, from ROC analysis, identified children with LMI SDS <-2, with a positive predictive value of 95% and a negative predictive value of 70%; and FMI SDS >2 with a positive predictive value of 44% and a negative predictive value of 100%. A contemporary population of children with ranging severities of OI present with significant reduction in height and lean mass, and relatively high fat mass. Standard BMI SDS cut-offs for identifying children with malnutrition and obesity have poor prognostic validity in OI.

Abstract
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a screening tool that identifies dysfunctional movements in seven test items requiring an interplay of cognitive, perceptual, proprioceptive, and motor functions that involve muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, mobility, coordination, and balance. The results of the FMS include an overall composite score, scores on the individual test items, and identification of compensatory movement patterns and left-right asymmetries on 5 bilateral test items. Although there is a plethora of literature on the use of the FMS in adults, there is a growing body of evidence indicating its use in children. The available research in children involves school children and young athletes in at least 20 different sports in over 20 countries and comparisons between pre- and post-pubescent children, and normal weight, overweight, and obese children. Studies that include measures of adiposity and physical activity levels, or report prevalence of asymmetries and dysfunctional movement patterns are not well represented in the children’s literature. The purpose of this paper is to synthesize the currently available literature in children and suggest potential uses of the FMS by coaches, physical educators, and other health/fitness professionals, appropriate interpretation of results, and future research in children.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE It has been suggested that overweight/obesity (OW/OB) impairs the normal alignment of children and adolescents' musculoskeletal system. However, to date, no study has systematically reviewed or quantified the effect of OW/OB on the development of joint malalignments in children and adolescents. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the association between OW/OB and joint alignment in children and adolescents and to quantify the evidence on whether children and adolescents with OW/OB have a higher risk of developing joint malalignments than their peers of normal weight. METHODS PubMed and Web of Science databases were systematically searched from inception to March 9, 2020. Studies investigating the association between OW/OB and joint alignment in children and adolescents were selected. Nonoriginal articles, participants with movement pattern diseases, and adolescents studied while pregnant were excluded. Two independent reviewers conducted the study selection and data extraction. Qualitative synthesis of evidence and random effect meta-analyses (risk ratio [RR]) were performed. RESULTS Seventy-three studies (5 longitudinal and 68 cross-sectional) met the inclusion criteria involving 1,757,107 children and adolescents. There was consistent evidence supporting associations of OW/OB with rounded shoulder, lumbar hyperlordosis, genu valgum, and flatfoot. Our meta-analysis showed that children and adolescents with OW/OB had a significantly higher risk of lumbar hyperlordosis (RR = 1.41), genu valgum (RR = 5.92), flatfoot (RR = 1.49), and any joint malalignment (RR = 1.68) when compared with their peers of normal weight. The presence of genu valgum and flatfoot were the most robust results. CONCLUSION Based on these findings, OW/OB is associated with the presence of joint malalignments in children and adolescents. IMPACT This is the first study that has systematically reviewed the effect of OW/OB on the development of joint malalignments in children and adolescents.
