Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), as novel antitumor drugs, have been widely used in the clinic and have shown good antitumor effects. However, their widespread use has also led to the emergence of various immune-related adverse events (IrAEs). Hypophysitis is a rare but serious IrAE. Due to its complex and changeable clinical manifestations, hypophysitis may be easily overlooked, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment. CASE PRESENTATION A 68-year-old male patient was diagnosed with bladder cancer (T2bNXM0) in October 2021. He received two cycles of immunotherapy with sintilimab and chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin (GC). One month after the second treatment, he gradually developed recurrent fever, anorexia, drowsiness, and delirium. Laboratory examination revealed hyponatremia, decreased adrenocorticotropic hormone, and hypocortisolemia. The pituitary MRI showed no abnormality. The patient was diagnosed with immunotherapy-induced hypophysitis (IH) caused by sintilimab, leading to downstream endocrine disorders. With hormone replacement therapy, he was in a good mood, had a good appetite, and made an overall recovery. CONCLUSION Immunotherapy-induced hypophysitis (IH) can result in a severe adrenal crisis, and prompt recognition and diagnosis are crucial. Clinicians must remain vigilant for the possibility of IH in patients who exhibit recurrent fever, anorexia, cognitive decline, and personality changes following ICI treatment. It is imperative to consider this diagnosis early to initiate appropriate management promptly.

Abstract
Pembrolizumab is a programmed death 1 receptor (PD-1) inhibitor. It is used as immunotherapy in various cancers, including metastatic melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and, notably, high-risk triple-negative breast cancer. We discuss a case of a 44-year-old female with a past medical history of triple-negative breast cancer who presented with a chief complaint of poor oral intake and fatigue after her fourth cycle of pembrolizumab therapy. The patient was diagnosed with pembrolizumab-induced isolated secondary adrenal insufficiency (AI) and was treated with corticosteroids with improvement in her symptoms. Secondary AI due to pembrolizumab use is a rare yet potentially life-threatening complication. If initial serum cortisol is borderline low, as observed in our patient, repeated testing within shorter intervals should be considered to optimize patient outcomes.

Abstract
Atezolizumab and bevacizumab are currently available as first-line treatments for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma, but immune-related adverse events are a major concern. We herein report two cases of isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) deficiency. Both patients presented with general fatigue, appetite loss, eosinophilia, and hyponatremia after nine cycles in case 1 and three months after stopping treatment for inflammatory arthritis in case 2. Endocrinological investigations revealed unsatisfactory ACTH and cortisol responses despite the preservation of other anterior pituitary hormones, suggesting isolated ACTH deficiency. As it is rapidly improved by steroid replacement therapy, an early diagnosis and treatment make it possible to resume immunotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several immune checkpoint inhibitors have been implemented for cancer treatment which have shown some degree of antitumor effcacy, while immune-related adverse events (irAEs) that affect multiple organ functions ensue which obviously should not be neglected. Though less common than other kinds of irAEs, Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) related Isolated ACTH deficiency (IAD) may cause long-term damage to pituitary-adrenal axis. Several case reports are available about IAD during anti-PD-1 therapy. We report the first case of immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced IAD following 3 month of sintilimab therapy. CASE PRESENTATION A 66-year-old Chinese man was diagnosed with stage IIIB lung adenocarcinoma with involving ipsilateral intrapulmonary and hilar lymph node metastasis. After 3 months of combination therapy of nedaplatin, pemetrexed and sintilimab, the patient presented with general fatigue, nausea and vomiting. Laboratory investigation at admission revealed hyponatremia and hypokalemia. Further investigation revealed adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol levels were far below than normal limits. His other pituitary hormone levels were normal, except for mild elevation of follicle stimulating hormone and estradiol. Cranic magnetic resonance imaging showed a normal pituitary gland. Isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency was diagnosed, and corticosteroid replacement therapy was administered, leading to a significant improvement of his symptoms while ACTH level maintaining low level. CONCLUSIONS Our patient developed isolated ACTH deficiency during combination cancer treatment with chemotherapy and sintilimab. Although isolated ACTH deficiency due to anti-PD-1 including sintilimab therapy is rare occurrence, it can often cause severe clinical symptoms. Its diagnosis basically relies on clinical symptoms and endocrinological examination. Unlike traditional hypophysitis diagnosed by cranial MRI, pituitary MRI of IAD due to anti-PD-1 often indicates normal pituitary gland implying that over-reliance on imaging findings is not recommended. Even if clinical symptoms have relieved after corticosteroid replacement therapy was commenced, low levels of ACTH or cortisol could maintain for a long period which highlights the need for long term corticosteroid therapy. The purpose of the current report was to provide increased awareness of early detection and therapy of IAD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate whether hypereosinophilia is a clinical biomarker of immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced hypopituitarism in patients with renal cell carcinoma treated with nivolumab plus ipilimumab. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study conducted at Jichi Medical University Saitama Medical Center between January 2018 and December 2020. In total, 12 patients with renal cell carcinoma who presented with immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced hypopituitarism were enrolled in this study. The clinical parameters and symptoms at baseline, last visit, and onset of hypopituitarism were analyzed. RESULTS The median period from the initial treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors to the onset of hypopituitarism was 82.5 (range: 56-196) days. Most patients developed hypopituitarism within 6 months. One patient presented with hypophysitis and 11 patients presented with isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency. The major symptoms noted at onset were fatigue (66.7%) and loss of appetite (41.7%). None of the patients had symptoms during the last visit. However, four developed hypereosinophilia. Eosinophil fraction (%) and eosinophil count (/µL) increased during the last visit and at the onset of hypopituitarism, respectively. The serum sodium and plasma glucose levels were similar. CONCLUSIONS The eosinophil count increased before the onset of hypopituitarism. Thus, hypereosinophilia can be an early predictor of hypopituitarism.

Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) treatment can result in endocrine immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including pituitary dysfunction. Quick diagnosis of secondary adrenal insufficiency (AI) is challenging because no universal definition of ICI-induced secondary AI has been agreed. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical features of ICI-induced secondary AI that can be used for screening in standard clinical practice. This retrospective study was performed using the medical records of patients who received ICIs at Hirosaki University Hospital between 1 September 2014 and 31 January 2021. Longitudinal clinical data of patients who developed AI were analyzed and compared with the data of thyroid irAEs. Regression analysis showed a significant correlation between ICI-induced secondary AI and absolute or relative eosinophil counts at pre-onset of AI, as well as differences or rate of increase in eosinophil counts at baseline and at pre-onset. Absolute eosinophil counts > 198.36/µL or relative eosinophil counts > 5.6% at pre-onset, and a difference of 65.25/µL or a rate of eosinophil count increase of 1.97 between the baseline and at pre-onset showed the best sensitivity and specificity. This is the first report to demonstrate that eosinophil counts can be a predictor of ICI-induced secondary AI.

Abstract
Pembrolizumab-induced adrenal insufficiency (AI) is recognized as a rare immune-related adverse event (irAE) that can be fatal if diagnosis is delayed. Clinical features of AI in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received pembrolizumab as the first-line treatment were observed. Five out of 49 patients with untreated advanced NSCLC developed AI between April 2017 and February 2021. Of the 5 patients, 4 developed AI with a grade >3 and were hospitalized. The median time of the onset of AI from the start of first-line treatment was 4.63 months. All the patients improved after corticosteroid replacement therapy. The efficacy of treatment was complete response in 1 patient and partial response in 4 patients. Median progression-free survival was 37.7 months, and overall survival had not been reached. This case series revealed the efficacy of immunotherapy in AI as an irAE.

Abstract
Immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) monoclonal antibodies has shown to be an effective therapeutic alternative in several malignant tumors. However, adverse effects related to an activation of the immune system may accompany ICI therapy. Among the immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are autoimmune endocrine adverse effects, such as thyroiditis, and hypophysitis. Secondary adrenal insufficiency due to isolated ACTH deficiency (IAD) has also been recently reported to be associated with ICI antibodies. We carried out a systematic review of IAD cases induced by cancer immunotherapy published to date using PubMed's database. We selected 35 articles that reported 60 cancer patients diagnosed with IAD induced by ICI therapy. The prevalence was higher in men (ratio 1.6/1). Mean age at diagnosis was 63.2 ± 11.6 (range,30-87). Melanoma was the tumor most commonly reported (35%) followed by lung (28.3%) and kidney cancer (18.3%). The ICI monoclonal antibody most frequently associated was nivolumab in monotherapy (60%), followed by pembrolizumab (18.3%). Median (IQR) time to develop IAD after starting ICI therapy was 6 (4-8) months. The main symptoms at IAD diagnosis were fatigue (82.8%) and anorexia (67.2%). Hyponatremia (68%) and eosinophilia (31.8%) were the laboratory abnormalities most frequently associated with IAD. Pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was normal in most patients (93%). Thyroiditis was the most prevalent (35%) endocrine irAE associated with IAD. In conclusion, ICI-induced IAD is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition that must be taken into account whenever treatment with immunotherapy in cancer patients is started due to their potential serious prognostic implications.

Abstract
Used for a wide range of cancers, nivolumab has been reported to cause immune-related adverse events, including isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency (IAD). We report an 81-year-old woman with malignant mesothelioma who presented with abdominal pain after eight courses of nivolumab therapy, leading to the diagnosis of nivolumab-induced IAD. We should consider adrenal insufficiency (AI) when a patient on nivolumab complains of abdominal pain and has no other explanatory findings. Infusion-resistant hypotension and hyponatraemia can further suggest AI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pituitary dysfunction is a life-threatening immune-related adverse event (irAE) induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). To date, it is not possible to identify patients who may develop pituitary irAEs prior to ICI treatment. The aim of this study was to characterize the predisposition for ICI-induced pituitary irAEs by analyzing anti-pituitary antibodies (APAs) and human leukocyte antigens (HLAs). METHODS In this case-control study, APAs and HLA alleles were analyzed in 62 patients (17 who developed ICI-induced isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency (ICI-IAD), 5 who developed ICI-induced hypophysitis (ICI-H) and 40 who did not develop pituitary irAEs) treated with ICIs between November 2, 2015, and March 31, 2020, at Nagoya University Hospital. The main outcome measures in this study were the association between the development of pituitary irAEs with APAs at baseline and after treatment and HLA alleles. RESULTS Eleven of 17 (64.7%) patients who developed ICI-IAD had APAs at baseline, whereas APAs were positive only in 1 of 40 (2.5%) control patients. Although APAs were negative at baseline in all patients who developed ICI-H, they had become positive before the onset of ICI-H in 3 of 4 patients several weeks after ipilimumab administration. At the onset of ICI-IAD and ICI-H, APAs were positive in 15 of 17 (88.2%) and 4 of 5 (80%) patients, respectively. The prevalence of HLA-Cw12, HLA-DR15, HLA-DQ7, and HLA-DPw9 was significantly higher in patients with ICI-IAD, whereas that of HLA-Cw12 and HLA-DR15 was significantly higher in patients with ICI-H than in controls. CONCLUSIONS This study showed distinct and overlapped patterns of APAs and HLA alleles between ICI-IAD and ICI-H. Our findings also showed that positive APAs at baseline and after treatment, together with susceptible HLA alleles, could become predictive biomarkers for ICI-IAD and ICI-H, respectively. Abstract
PURPOSE Ipilimumab, a monoclonal antibody inhibiting CLTA-4, is an established treatment in metastatic melanoma, either alone or in combination with nivolumab, and results in immune mediated adverse events, including endocrinopathy. Hypophysitis is one of the most common endocrine abnormalities. An early recognition of hypophysitis may prevent life threatening consequences of hypopituitarism; therefore, biomarkers to predict which patients will develop hypophysitis would have clinical utility. Recent studies suggested that a decline in TSH may serve as an early marker of IH. This study was aimed at assessing the utility of thyroid function tests in predicting development of hypophysitis. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was performed for all patients (n = 308) treated with ipilimumab either as a monotherapy or in combination with nivolumab for advanced melanoma at the Royal Marsden Hospital from 2010 to 2016. Thyroid function tests, other pituitary function tests and Pituitary MRIs were used to identify those with hypophysitis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Ipilimumab-induced hypophysitis (IH) was diagnosed in 25 patients (8.15%). A decline in TSH was observed in hypophysitis cohort during the first three cycles but it did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.053). A significant fall in FT4 (P < 0.001), TSH index (P < 0.001) and standardised TSH index (P < 0.001) prior to cycles 3 and 4 in hypophysitis cohort was observed. TSH is not useful in predicting development of IH. FT4, TSH index and standardised TSH index may be valuable but a high index of clinical suspicion remains paramount in early detection of hypophysitis.

Abstract
Immunocheckpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy has provided significant clinical improvements in the treatment of several malignancies. The purpose of this report is to increase awareness of hypereosinophilia associated with checkpoint inhibitors, a topic that has been rarely reported. Hypereosinophilia may need to be addressed especially if eosinophil counts increase to levels where hypereosinophilic visceral complications can occur. We are presenting a case of a 57-year-old male with hypereosinophilia that was seen in the setting of progression of metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer during and after nivolumab treatment.

Abstract
Dendritic cells (DCs) play a critical role in the immune system which sense pathogens and present their antigens to prime the adaptive immune responses. As the progression of sepsis occurs, DCs are capable of orchestrating the aberrant innate immune response by sustaining the Th1/Th2 responses that are essential for host survival. Hence, an in-depth understanding of the characteristics of DCs would have a beneficial effect in overcoming the obstacle occurring in sepsis. This paper focuses on the role of DCs in the progression of sepsis and we also discuss the reverse sepsis-induced immunosuppression through manipulating the DC function. In addition, we highlight some potent immunotherapies that could be used as a novel strategy in the early treatment of sepsis.

Abstract
Background The programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitor pembrolizumab is a promising agent for treatment of several different malignancies, but as with all immunotherapy there is a potential risk of immune-related adverse events. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) deficiency and hypophysitis have been reported in patients treated with a different PD-1 inhibitor, nivolumab. However, clinical characteristics of these side effects associated with pembrolizumab have yet to be described in detail. Case presentation An 85-year-old Japanese woman was diagnosed with advanced squamous cell lung cancer. The patient was treated with 200 mg pembrolizumab every three weeks as first-line therapy. Routine examination including thyroid function, complete blood count, serum cortisol and sodium levels before each pembrolizumab infusion had shown no significant changes up to the eighth cycle. However, 8 days after the eighth cycle of single-agent pembrolizumab, she presented with rapidly worsening general fatigue and appetite loss over two days. Laboratory data revealed a low serum cortisol level (0.92 μg/dL) with inappropriately low ACTH (8.3 pg/mL), hyponatremia (122 mmol/L) and hypoglycemia (68 mg/dL). Standard-dose short ACTH testing showed an unsatisfactory cortisol response, indicating adrenal insufficiency. Pituitary magnetic resonance imaging showed diffuse substantial gadolinium enhancement, T2 hyperintensity, loss of pituitary bright spot, but no pituitary enlargement. Serum cortisol and ACTH levels were low throughout the day, and urinary free cortisol excretion fell below the lower normal limit. There was no ACTH and cortisol response in the corticotropin-releasing hormone test, despite significant responses of other anterior pituitary hormones to their corresponding challenge tests. Thus, isolated ACTH deficiency was diagnosed, and hypophysitis was suspected as the etiology. After administration of 15 mg/day hydrocortisone, the patient’s debilitation, hyponatremia, and hypoglycemia swiftly disappeared. Conclusion This is a case of isolated ACTH deficiency possibly due to hypophysitis in a patient with advanced lung cancer, in whom recent routine examinations had shown unremarkable results. We therefore conclude that isolated ACTH deficiency can suddenly arise during pembrolizumab monotherapy, albeit probably only rarely. Caution should be exercised to make sure that adrenal insufficiency is recognized immediately in order to achieve swift recovery by steroid replacement.

Abstract
In recent years, immunotherapy, especially immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), has achieved amazing results in the treatment of lung cancer, melanoma, renal clear cell carcinoma and other malignant tumors. Although ICIs have achieved significant efficacy in tumor treatment, the immune-related adverse events (irAEs) caused by non-specific immune activation of ICIs can directly affect the result of treatment, even threaten the life of patients. The most common form of irAEs involve the skin, lung, colon, liver and endocrine organs. However, it is noticeable that although irAEs of some organs are more common, actually any organ and tissue are likely to be affected, because of non-specific activation of the immune system. Other tissues and organs, though rare, can be more severe and even fatal, such as neurological disorders and myocarditis. Therefore, effective management of irAEs is of great importance for the efficacy of immunotherapy. This review is focused on the morbidity, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of tumor immune toxic effects.

Abstract
Immunotherapy has emerged in recent years and has revolutionized the treatment of cancer. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, including anti-cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4), anti-programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) and anti-programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) agents, are the first of this new generation of treatments. Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 agents target immune cells by blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway. This blockade leads to enhancement of the immune system and therefore restores the tumour-induced immune deficiency selectively in the tumour microenvironment. However, this shift in the balance of the immune system can also produce adverse effects that involve multiple organs. The pattern of toxicity is different from traditional chemotherapy agents or targeted therapy, and there is still little experience in recognizing and managing it. Thus, toxicity constitutes a real clinical management challenge and any new alteration should be suspected of being treatment-related. The most common toxicities occur in the skin, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and endocrine, musculoskeletal, renal, nervous, haematologic, cardiovascular and ocular systems. Immune-mediated toxic effects are usually manageable, but toxicities may sometimes lead to treatment withdrawal, and even fulminant and fatal events can occur. Oncologists need to collaborate with internists, clinical immunologists and other specialists to understand, manage and prevent toxicity derived from immunotherapy. This review focuses on the mechanisms of toxicity of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 agents, and its diagnosis and management.

Abstract
Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors are a promising class of anticancer drugs. The clinical benefits afforded by immune checkpoint inhibitors can be accompanied by immune-related adverse events that affect multiple organs, and endocrine immune-related adverse events include thyroiditis and hypophysitis. Hypophysitis is less frequent and has a less severe clinical presentation in patients treated with other immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as nivolumab, pembrolizumab, and atezolizumab, than in those treated with ipilimumab. However, studies have described isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency cases associated with nivolumab, pembrolizumab, and atezolizumab therapy, most of which occurred during the course of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. We report a rare case of patient with isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency that occurred after nivolumab therapy. Case presentation A 69-year-old Japanese woman with advanced lung adenocarcinoma developed painless thyroiditis with transient elevations of serum thyroid hormones during 3 months of cancer treatment with nivolumab and began thyroid hormone replacement therapy for subsequent primary hypothyroidism. Four months after nivolumab therapy was discontinued, she developed isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency; corticosteroid replacement therapy relieved her secondary adrenal insufficiency symptoms, such as anorexia and fatigue. Human leukocyte antigen typing revealed the presence of DRB1*04:05-DQB1*04:01-DQA1*03:03 and DRB1*09:01-DQB1*03:03-DQA1*03:02 haplotypes, which increase susceptibility to autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome associated with thyroid and pituitary disorders in the Japanese population. Conclusions Our patient developed thyroiditis during cancer treatment with nivolumab and subsequently exhibited isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency 4 months after discontinuing the drug. Administration of nivolumab in combination with a genetic predisposition to polyglandular autoimmunity probably caused both the thyroiditis and hypophysitis, resulting in primary hypothyroidism and isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency, respectively, in our patient. The present case highlights the need for physicians to be aware that endocrine immune-related adverse events, including hypophysitis, can occur more than several months after discontinuing a drug.

Abstract
Anti-programmed death-1 (anti-PD-1) monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, have been used for the treatment of various types of cancers, and excellent efficacy has been shown in some patients. The adverse effects of anti-PD-1 antibodies relating to autoimmunity are different from traditional chemotherapeutic drugs and may involve many organs including the endocrine system. We herein describe a case of adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency during the treatment of advanced small-cell lung cancer, probably caused by nivolumab-induced hypophysitis. The case showed nonspecific, insidious, as well as potentially life-threatening characters of immune-related adverse effects. It is important for physicians to acknowledge clinical features of the rare side effect and take appropriate and prompt treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are novel promising agents for the treatment of malignant tumors. However, critical endocrine immune-related adverse events (irAEs) by ICIs often occur. CASE REPORT A 63-year-old woman with advanced malignant melanoma had received anti-PD-1 antibody (nivolumab, 2 mg/kg every 3 weeks) for 8 cycles (from day 0 to day 147). On day 168, nivolumab was switched to anti-CTLA-4 antibody (ipilimumab, 3mg/kg every 3 weeks). Twenty-eight days later, she was diagnosed with thyrotoxicosis due to painless thyroiditis (day 196). Thirty-five days later (day 231), thyrotoxicosis turned to hypothyroidism. In addition, twenty-five days later (day 256), she was diagnosed with adrenocortical insufficiency due to adrenocortical hormone (ACTH) deficiency. Hormone replacements with levothyroxine and hydrocortisone were administered. She showed eosinophilia, ESR/CRP/LDH elevation, liver dysfunction and hyponatremia before diagnosis of ACTH insufficiency. Eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, ESR/CRP/LDH elevation, and liver dysfunction might be important for early detection of thyrotoxicosis in our case. CONCLUSION The present report provides the first detailed presentation of combined thyrotoxicosis and isolated ACTH deficiency induced by ICIs. Since rapidly progressive fatal endocrine system failure may be provoked during ICI therapy, precise diagnosis and prompt treatment as well as close follow-up is critical. We propose routine monitoring of endocrine functions and related symptoms (worsened fatigue, hypoglycemia, hypotension or hyponatremia), as well as other laboratory tests during ICI therapy.

Abstract
Kidney cancer is a heterogeneous group of malignant tumors that develop from cells of the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. In Russia renal cell carcinoma holds the 2nd place after prostate cancer among tumors of genitourinary system. The main method of renal cell carcinoma treatment is radical nephrectomy, at the same time, high resistance of kidney cancer to chemotherapy and a weak response to hormone treatment are noted, and the effectiveness of cytokine therapy (interleukin 2, interferon alfa) does not exceed 18–20 %. The introduction into clinical practice of modern immune system affecting drugs has changed the disease prognosis for many patients with various malignant neoplasms. Currently, active development of immunotherapeutic drugs directed against inhibitory receptors of T-cells, the so-called “immunity control points” takes place, the most studied among these drugs are anti-CTLA-4 (cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein 4) and anti-PD-1 (рrogrammed cell death pathway 1)/PD-L1 (programmed death ligand 1) monoclonal antibodies. In this review a detailed description of the PD-1 receptor and its PD-L1 ligand, as well as the prognostic and predictive significance of their expression in various types of renal cell carcinoma and the role in suppressing the antitumor T-cell immune response are presented. Blockade of PD-1/PD-L1 enhances antitumor immunity reducing the amount and/or immunosuppressive activity of regulatory T-cells (suppressors) and restoring the activity of effector T-cells that leads to an enhancement of the antitumor immune response. The blockade of PD-1 also stimulates proliferation of memory B-cells. In this regard, drugs that suppress the function of PD-1 are now widely used in the treatment of cancer including kidney cancer. The authors provide a list of promising drugs acting on PD-1/PD-L1 system used in renal cell carcinoma: nivolumab, pembrolizumab and some others. The results of clinical studies se of immunotherapeutic drugs in kidney cancer are analyzed.
