Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review of the literature is to build understanding of the key elements and recommendations for the design of mHealth technology for individuals using wheelchairs and/or scooters and identify key features associated with the use of mHealth to support healthy behaviour changes for this population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eight major electronic databases were systematically searched to identify mobile health (mHealth) interventions, which targeted adult WC/S users. Independent reviewers used Endnote and Covidence to manage articles meeting review criteria and to exclude duplicates. A quality assessment was conducted on each included article. RESULTS Nine articles describing studies with diverse study designs met criteria to be included in this review. Several interactive application intervention features, such as participant collaboration and goal setting, and key technical features to support mHealth app development and utilisation were identified. Results found intuitive and simple designs of mHealth apps, with the ability to customise to support learning styles and preferences, support usability and acceptability by participants. CONCLUSIONS More research is needed to evaluate best practices to support initial training of end-users, mHealth apps' ability to support long-term behaviour change and maintenance, and the understanding of active ingredients in complex interventions that include mHealth apps. Both interactive mHealth application intervention and technical features support healthy behaviour change among individuals using wheelchairs and scooters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) offer a convenient way to increase physical activity to people with disabilities. While several mHealth apps have been developed for this population, there is limited evidence assessing app usability and how this might impact physical activity. OBJECTIVE To investigate the usability of a novel mHealth app, Accessercise, that aims to increase physical activity in people with physical disabilities. METHODS Twelve adults with different physical disabilities participated in a face-to-face think-aloud interview. Interviews were analysed using deductive content analysis based on the User Version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale (uMARS). FINDINGS Data mapped onto 12 uMARS domains; most participants expressed positive views concerning Accessercise, namely, entertainment, customisation, tailoring to the target group, ease of use and navigation, and visual information. Some additional elements were viewed positively but required modification to improve usability, perceived credibility, and relevance, including the app's layout, visual appeal, interactivity, and quality/quantity of information. CONCLUSION This study provides an example of how the think-aloud method can be employed to evaluate mHealth apps that aims to increase physical activity in people with physical disabilities. Therefore, developers and researchers could use this study to inform future usability evaluations in this area.

Abstract
PURPOSE To gain knowledge of the experiences and perceptions of using fitness apps by full-time wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI) and to explore experiences and perceptions of using these apps in relation to barriers to and facilitators of physical activity (PA). MATERIALS AND METHODS A qualitative design was employed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten manual wheelchair users with SCI. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Four themes were developed: 1) App functionality and experience, 2) Enhancing motivation, 3) Precursors to engagement and 4) Knowledge gaps. Experience and perception were strongly influenced by app design, particularly the presence or absence of features tailored for wheelchair users. Many apps incorporated the use wearable or mountable sensors. Fitness apps were perceived to increase motivation, although, this had its limitations. Conversely, apps were reported to have limited influence on commonly reported barriers to PA. Furthermore, the data highlighted gaps in knowledge which created barriers to effective app use. CONCLUSIONS Fitness apps were perceived to increase motivation to engage in PA in manual wheelchair users with SCI. However, more needs to be done to further develop app features for wheelchair users with SCI and to address remaining barriers to engagement.

Abstract
People with spinal cord injury (SCI) are at greater risk of developing obesity and related co-morbidities than those without SCI. The objectives of this systematic review were to examine the effectiveness of weight management interventions for people with SCI and to synthesize the experiences of people involved with SCI weight management (e.g., SCI healthcare professionals and caregivers). Five databases were searched (up to July 31, 2023) and 5,491 potentially eligible articles were identified. Following screening, 22 articles were included, comprising 562 adults. There was considerable heterogeneity in study design and weight loss interventions included behavioral nutritional and exercise education sessions, recalling food diaries, exercise interventions, and pharmaceuticals. The mean percentage change of the pooled body mass data equated to -4.0 ± 2.3%, with a range from -0.5 to -7.6%. In addition, 38% of the individuals with SCI who completed a weight loss intervention (N = 262) had a ≥5% reduction in body weight. Collectively, although on average the included interventions led to moderate weight loss, the finding that just over a third of individuals achieved clinically meaningful 5% weight loss suggests that available interventions for this population may need to be improved.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine changes in physical activity, nutrition, sleep behaviour and body composition in wheelchair users with a chronic disability after 12 weeks of using the WHEELS mHealth application (app). METHODS A 12-week pre-post intervention study was performed, starting with a 1-week control period. Physical activity and sleep behaviour were continuously measured with a Fitbit charge 3. Self-reported nutritional intake, body mass and waist circumference were collected. Pre-post outcomes were compared with a paired-sample t-test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Fitbit data were analysed with a mixed model or a panel linear model. Effect sizes were determined and significance was accepted at p < .05. RESULTS Thirty participants completed the study. No significant changes in physical activity (+1.5 √steps) and sleep quality (-9.7 sleep minutes; -1.2% sleep efficiency) were found. Significant reduction in energy (-1022 kJ, d = 0.71), protein (-8.3 g, d = 0.61) and fat (-13.1 g, d = 0.87) intake, body mass (-2.2 kg, d = 0.61) and waist circumference (-3.3 cm, d = 0.80) were found. CONCLUSION Positive changes were found in nutritional behaviour and body composition, but not in physical activity and sleep quality. The WHEELS app seems to partly support healthy lifestyle behaviour.Implications for RehabilitationHealthy lifestyle promotion is crucial, especially for wheelchair users as they tend to show poorer lifestyle behaviour despite an increased risk of obesity and comorbidity.The WHEELS lifestyle app seems to be a valuable tool to support healthy nutrition choices and weight loss and to improve body satisfaction, mental health and vitality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A significant portion of individuals in the United States and worldwide experience diseases related to or driven by diet. As research surrounding user-centered design and the microbiome grows, movement of the spectrum of translational science from bench to bedside for improvement of human health through nutrition becomes more accessible. In this literature survey, we examined recent literature examining informatics research at the interface of nutrition and the microbiome. OBJECTIVES The objective of this survey was to synthesize recent literature describing how technology is being applied to understand health at the interface of nutrition and the microbiome focusing on the perspective of the consumer. METHODS A survey of the literature published between January 1, 2021 and October 10, 2022 was performed using the PubMed database and resulting literature was evaluated against inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of 139 papers were retrieved and evaluated against inclusion and exclusion criteria. After evaluation, 45 papers were reviewed in depth revealing four major themes: (1) microbiome and diet, (2) usability,(3) reproducibility and rigor, and (4) precision medicine and precision nutrition. CONCLUSIONS A review of the relationships between current literature on technology, nutrition and the microbiome, and self-management of dietary patterns was performed. Major themes that emerged from this survey revealed exciting new horizons for consumer management of diet and disease, as well as progress towards elucidating the relationship between diet, the microbiome, and health outcomes. The survey revealed continuing interest in the study of diet-related disease and the microbiome and acknowledgement of needs for data re-use, sharing, and unbiased and rigorous measurement of the microbiome. The literature also showed trends toward enhancing the usability of digital interventions to support consumer health and home management, and consensus building around how precision medicine and precision nutrition may be applied in the future to improve human health outcomes and prevent diet-related disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals with lower limb loss (LLL) need education to adapt to their amputation. Self-management programs provide education and supportive skills to manage health-related physical and psychological challenges. eHealth technologies, such as online platforms, are increasing access to educational resources. We designed an online self-management program for individuals with LLL called Self-Management for Amputee Rehabilitation using Technology (SMART); however, before evaluating its efficacy, we wanted to understand its appropriateness in the target population. OBJECTIVE To assess the usability of SMART among individuals with LLL. STUDY DESIGN The study used a concurrent and retrospective think-aloud process. METHODS Individuals with LLL, aged 18 years or older (n = 9), reviewed the modules during an online video conferencing session with an assessor. SMART included four stakeholder-informed modules with 18 total sections. Participants were asked to think aloud while completing 11 SMART tasks, such as entering SMART, goal setting, finding skin care, and reading the content of 10 sections, including limb care, diet, fatigue, and energy. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using directed content analysis. RESULTS The median age was 58 (range: 30-69) years. Overall, SMART was perceived as straightforward, easy to navigate, and an accessible resource for education and skills. Difficulties were identified with navigation (e.g. skipping the "Foot care for diabetes" section), presentation (e.g. unclear audio), and language (e.g. pistoning and contracture). CONCLUSIONS SMART was redesigned to address the usability issues. The next step is to explore the perceived usefulness of SMART for content and intention to use.

Abstract
Objectives To evaluate the difference between healthcare professionals (HCPs) and adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) in Asia regarding knowledge and interpretation of 'exercise intensity' for aerobic exercise prescription. Methods and study design A survey was distributed to practising HCP and adults with SCI. It was completed in participants' local language on topics related to the importance of exercise frequency, intensity, time and type; methods for monitoring and terms related to exercise intensity prescription. χ2 analysis was used to detect differences in HCP or those with SCI. Results 121 HCP and 107 adults with an SCI ≥1 years (C1-L4) participated. Responses revealed 61% of all HCP ranked 'intensity' being most important whereas only 38% respondents from the SCI group ranked it as high importance (p=0.008). For those with SCI, 'frequency' was most important (61%) which was significantly higher than the 45% selected by HCPs (p=0.030). Of the 228 respondents on average only 34% believed that the terms, 'moderate' and 'vigorous' provided enough information for aerobic exercise intensity prescription. HCP most often used HR methods compared with the SCI group (90% vs 54%; p<0.01). Both groups frequently used the subjective measures of exercise intensity, for example, Ratings of Perceived Exertion (8%3 vs 76% for HCP and SCI), HCP also frequently used speed (81%) and SCI also frequently relied on 'the affect' or feelings while exercising (69%). Conclusions These differences must be considered when developing clinical-practice exercise guidelines and health referral educational pathways for adults with SCI in Asia.

Abstract
Background Falls and resulting injury are a significant concern for individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS) that use a wheelchair and/or scooter to support mobility. Effective fall prevention efforts are vital to support the health, wellbeing, and participation for these individuals. Aims This study reports the findings from the process evaluation conducted in association with a pilot study evaluating the efficacy of Individualized Reduction of FaLLs-Online (iROLL-O), an online, group fall prevention, and management program specifically designed for community-based people living with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) who are full-time wheelchair or scooter users. Methods A mixed-methods process evaluation was conducted, with specific attention to the impact of online delivery on intervention implementation, participant satisfaction, and mechanisms of change (MOC). Multiple data sources were utilized, including post-session and post-intervention participant and trainer feedback forms and participant qualitative interview data. Descriptive analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel. Close-ended questions were analyzed by examining five-point Likert scale responses. Qualitative interview data was explored using thematic analysis. Results Twelve participants and three trainers (one occupational therapist and two physical therapists) contributed to the study. Online delivery did not compromise session fidelity, which averaged 95%. No significant adaptations to the intervention were made during delivery. Participant satisfaction was high at 4.6/5.0. Post-course Trainer Feedback Forms indicate trainer satisfaction with the group dynamic, ability to address unique group needs, and program content. Reach improved with online delivery as transportation barriers were removed and recruitment from a broader geographic area was enabled. Three themes reflecting key MOC emerged from the analysis: group context, motivation for participant engagement, and the multifaceted nature of the program. The COVID-19 pandemic was identified as a contextual factor impacting community participation. Both participants and trainers identified the group dynamic as a strength. The trainers valued the program's flexibility in allowing them to address individual and/or group-specific fall prevention needs. Conclusion Feedback from key stakeholders was essential to a meaningful process evaluation. Online delivery supported program implementation, including reach, and resulted in high levels of satisfaction among participants and trainers. Future iterations should aim to uphold the positive group context, recruit, and train skilled interventionists who are licensed as occupational or physical therapists and continue to provide the program's diverse approach to fall prevention and management.

Abstract
Background The System Usability Scale (SUS) is a widely used scale that has been used to quantify the usability of many software and hardware products. However, the SUS was not specifically designed to evaluate mobile apps, or in particular digital health apps (DHAs). Objective The aim of this study was to examine whether the widely used SUS distribution for benchmarking (mean 68, SD 12.5) can be used to reliably assess the usability of DHAs. Methods A search of the literature was performed using the ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, CORE, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases to identify SUS scores related to the usability of DHAs for meta-analysis. This study included papers that published the SUS scores of the evaluated DHAs from 2011 to 2021 to get a 10-year representation. In total, 117 SUS scores for 114 DHAs were identified. R Studio and the R programming language were used to model the DHA SUS distribution, with a 1-sample, 2-tailed t test used to compare this distribution with the standard SUS distribution. Results The mean SUS score when all the collected apps were included was 76.64 (SD 15.12); however, this distribution exhibited asymmetrical skewness (–0.52) and was not normally distributed according to Shapiro-Wilk test (P=.002). The mean SUS score for “physical activity” apps was 83.28 (SD 12.39) and drove the skewness. Hence, the mean SUS score for all collected apps excluding “physical activity” apps was 68.05 (SD 14.05). A 1-sample, 2-tailed t test indicated that this health app SUS distribution was not statistically significantly different from the standard SUS distribution (P=.98). Conclusions This study concludes that the SUS and the widely accepted benchmark of a mean SUS score of 68 (SD 12.5) are suitable for evaluating the usability of DHAs. We speculate as to why physical activity apps received higher SUS scores than expected. A template for reporting mean SUS scores to facilitate meta-analysis is proposed, together with future work that could be done to further examine the SUS benchmark scores for DHAs.
