Abstract
PURPOSE Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition that affects approximately 5% of the pediatric population, with increased prevalence among those with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Reports suggest that unrecognized and untreated ADHD impairs T1D control and that ADHD may be underdiagnosed in the Polish population. The International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes recommends neurodevelopmental assessments in children with T1D, but specific guidelines on procedures and implementation are lacking. Therefore, we designed a systemic screening protocol aimed at assessing the prevalence of ADHD among Polish children with T1D that could be utilized in clinical practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS The protocol for the study was approved by the Bioethical Committee at the Medical University of Lodz (RNN/280/21/KE). Participation is offered to all children aged 8-16 y.o. with T1D duration ≥1 year and without significant comorbidities (epilepsy, intellectual disability). The protocol includes a first-line procedure using the short version of the Conners 3 questionnaire and on-site structured consultation with a psychologist for those with increased risk of ADHD (utilizing detailed Conners 3 and MINI-Kid questionnaires), followed by a video consultation with a psychiatrist. RESULTS The screening was initiated between January and May 2023 and is ongoing in four Polish reference pediatric centers. These centers provide diabetes care to approximately 2,500 youth with T1D. Over 36 months, our goal is to assist in diagnosing ADHD in approximately 190 children. CONCLUSIONS Comorbidity of ADHD and T1D remains an unrecognized challenge for pediatric psychiatric and diabetes care, and there is a need for effective diagnostic protocols.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic illnesses in children with multiple psychosocial, economic and developmental effects. Psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, psychological distress, and eating disorders are more common in diabetic patients than the non-diabetic once. The main objective of our study was to assess Prevalence and associated factors of psychiatric problems in children aged 6-18 years with type 1 diabetes mellitus in Gondar, Ethiopia. METHODS An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 206 children aged 6-18 years with type-1 diabetes mellitus having regular follow-ups at the University of Gondar comprehensive and Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH) over three three-month period. Data was collected by trained physicians using interviewer-administered structured questionnaires. Convenient sampling technique was applied and Participants were selected sequentially until the sample size was achieved. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used for Model fitness and the strength of association was determined using an OR, p-value of < 0.05 and 95% CI. RESULTS The prevalence of psychiatric problems was 11.7% and those children living with only either of the parent (AOR = 8.39, 95%: 1.5-46), living with other relatives (AOR = 11.3, 95% CI: 1.97-64.7), more than 5 family size (AOR = 0.3, 95%CI: 0.1-1.2), fathers attended formal education (AOR = 0.3, 95%: 0.04-1.73), a patient having good glycemic control (AOR = 0.2, 95%: 0.04-0.67) and those with a family history of diabetes mellitus(AOR = 5.2, 95% CI: 1.2-22.1) were significantly associated with a psychiatric problem in diabetic aged 6-18 years with p-value < 0.05. CONCLUSION The prevalence of psychiatric problems in diabetic children was significantly high and children living with single parent, paternal educational status, glycemic control, family history of diabetes, and family size were found to have significant association with the occurrence of psychiatric problems in diabetic children.

Abstract
As an increased body of COVID-19 related research is now available, it becomes apparent that the effects of COVID-19 extend beyond that of the respiratory system. Among others, the endocrine system is particularly vulnerable to perturbation from the COVID-19 infection. The present scoping review summarizes the bidirectional relationship between COVID-19 and endocrine system in children and adolescents, by describing both the possible susceptibility of children and adolescents without endocrinopathies to endocrine disorders following COVID-19 infection, but also the potential susceptibility to COVID-19 infection and severe infection, or the aggravation of endocrine dysfunction in patients with pre-existing endocrine diseases. Data suggest increased obesity and diabetes rates, as well as increased severity and frequency of diabetic ketoacidosis following COVID-19 infection. Conversely, patients with diabetes and obesity may experience a more severe course of COVID-19 infection. However, in the majority of cases, children and adolescents with well-managed and regulated endocrine disorders do not appear to be at increased risk of infection or severe infection from COVID-19. Thus, adhering to the appropriate "sick day management rules", maintaining adequate supply of medications and supplies, keeping close contact with the therapeutic team and seeking medical help without delay when needed, are the main recommendations for a safe outcome. Additional lessons learnt during the pandemic include the risk for mental health diseases caused by children's disrupted routine due to COVID-19 related protective measures and the importance of adopting alternative communication options, such as telehealth visits, in order to ensure uninterrupted endocrine care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 5%-10% of paediatric population and is reportedly more common in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D), exacerbating its clinical course. Proper treatment of ADHD in such patients may thus provide neurological and metabolic benefits. To test this, we designed a non-commercial second phase clinical trial comparing the impact of different pharmacological interventions for ADHD in children with T1D. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a multicentre, randomised, open-label, cross-over clinical trial in children and adolescents with ADHD and T1D. The trial will be conducted in four reference paediatric diabetes centres in Poland. Over 36 months, eligible patients with both T1D and ADHD (aged 8-16.5 years, T1D duration >1 year) will be offered participation. Patients' guardians will undergo online once-weekly training sessions behaviour management for 10 weeks. Afterward, children will be randomised to methylphenidate (long-release capsule, doses 18-36-54 mg) versus lisdexamphetamine (LDX, 30-50-70 mg). Pharmacotherapy will continue for 6 months before switching to alternative medication. Throughout the trial, the participants will be evaluated every 3 months by their diabetologist and online psychological assessments. The primary endpoint (ADHD symptom severity, Conners 3.0 questionnaire) will be assessed by a blinded investigator. Secondary endpoints will include HbA1c, continuous glucose monitoring indices and quality-of-life (PedsQL). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The trial is approved by Bioethical Committee at Medical University of Lodz and Polish regulatory agency (RNN/142/22/KE, UR/DBL/D/263/2022). The results will be communicated to the research and clinical community, and Polish agencies responsible for healthcare policy. Patient organisations focused on paediatric T1D will be notified by a consortium member. We hope to use the trial's results to promote collaboration between mental health professionals and diabetes teams, evaluate the economic feasibility of using LDX in patients with both diseases and the long run improve ADHD treatment in children with T1D. Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescents have been overlooked in global public health initiatives as this period is generally considered to be the healthiest in an individual's life course. However, the growth of the global adolescent population and their changing health profiles have called attention to the diverse health needs of adolescents. The increased attention toward adolescent health has accentuated existing gaps as global health reports have emphasised that there is a continued need for valid and reliable health data. In this context, evidence has shown that mental health issues constitute one of the greatest burdens of disease for adolescents. This integrative review aims to unpack the meaning of mental wellness among adolescents and its associated constructs by analysing and synthesising empirical and theoretical research on adolescent mental wellness. In doing this, we will develop a working definition of adolescent mental wellness that can be used to develop an instrument aimed at measuring adolescent mental wellness. METHODS The integrative review is guided by the five steps described by Whittemore and Knafl. A comprehensive search strategy which will include carefully selected terms that correspond to the domains of interest (positive mental health/mental wellness) will be used to search for relevant literature on electronic databases, grey literature and government or non-governmental organisations (NGO) websites. Studies will be included if they describe and/or define general mental wellness in adolescent populations aged 10-19. The screening and reporting of the review will be conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Data from the integrative review will be analysed using narrative framework synthesis for qualitative and quantitative studies. DISCUSSION This integrative review aims to search for and synthesise current research regarding adolescent mental wellness to identify how wellness is being described and conceptualised. We aim to identify gaps and to contribute to a more comprehensive definition of mental wellness which can aid in the development of an age- and culturally appropriate measure of adolescent mental wellness.

Abstract
AIMS Increasing evidence suggests that children and young people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at greater risk of disordered eating compared to children without T1D. Disordered eating in T1D has been linked to impaired wellbeing, increased health service use and early mortality. To address this problem, we will co-develop a psycho-education intervention for parents of children and young people with T1D, informed by the Information Motivation Behavioural Skills model. METHODS The objective of this study is to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention compared to a waitlist control group using a feasibility randomised controlled trial (RCT) design. We aim to recruit 70 parents of children and young people with T1D (11-14 years), 35 in each arm. Those assigned to the intervention will be invited to participate in two workshops of 2 h each. Parents will be asked to complete outcome measures regarding eating habits, diabetes management, as well as a questionnaire based on the Information Motivation Behavioural Skills model which provides a theoretical foundation for the intervention. These will be completed at baseline, 1- and 3-month post-intervention. Children and young people will be asked to complete questionnaires on their eating behaviours at the same time intervals. Parents randomised to receive the intervention will be invited to take part in interviews to feedback on the intervention and research protocol acceptability. CONCLUSION It is anticipated that the psycho-education intervention aimed at parents will help prevent the development of disordered eating in children and young people with T1D and improve parental wellbeing. The results of this feasibility trial will determine whether this intervention approach is acceptable to families living with T1D, and whether a definitive RCT of intervention effectiveness is justified. Qualitative findings will be used to refine the intervention and study protocols. TRIAL REGISTRATION This protocol has been registered with ClinicalTrials.gov [Identifier: NCT04741568].

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine associations of disordered eating behaviors (DEBs) with body image problems, parents' eating disorder symptoms, and emotional and behavioral problems among adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). 200 adolescents (M age = 15.24 ± 1.45 years) with T1D completed a self-report measure of DEBs and body ideal internalization, and their parents completed self-report measures of parents' eating problems and child's psychological symptoms. Seventy-three (36.5%) adolescents were DEPS-r-positive (scores ≥ 20), with higher rates among girls (χ2 = 9.034, p = .003). Adolescents with T1D and DEBs reported lower SES, worse metabolic control, higher zBMI (p < .001), more eating disorder symptoms, more body image problems, and more emotional and behavioral problems than adolescents with T1D but no DEBs (all p < .05). Parents of adolescents with DEBs showed higher levels of bulimia (p = .028) than parents of adolescents without DEBs. In both genders, pressure to conform to societal norms about body image (p < .01) and externalization symptoms (p < .05) emerged as significant predictors of DEBs. Findings suggest that adolescents with T1D and DEBs showed an alarming psychological condition, with higher level of body image and more emotional and behavioral problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frequency, dimensions, management, and outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic in children with endocrine disorders and diabetes were assessed. METHODS A cross-sectional electronic survey was distributed to the global network of endocrine societies. Respondents' professional and practice profiles, clinic sizes, their country of practice, and the impact of COVID-19 on endocrine diseases were investigated. RESULTS Respondents from 131 pediatric endocrine centers in 51 countries across all continents completed the survey. Routine check-ups and education were altered in most pediatric endocrine clinics. Over 20% of clinics experienced a shortage of critical medications or essential supplies. ICU treatment was required for patients with diabetes and COVID-19 in 21.2% of centers. In diabetes, 44% of respondents reported increased diabetic ketoacidosis episodes in newly diagnosed cases and 30% in established cases. Biopsychosocial and behavioral changes were explicitly reported to be occurring among pediatric patients with endocrine disorders. CONCLUSIONS This large global survey conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic highlights that diabetes is more challenging to manage than any other pediatric endocrine disorder, with an increased risk of morbidity. Psychological distress due to COVID-19 needs to be recognized and addressed. The importance of close contact with healthcare professionals should be emphasized, and medical supplies should be readily available to all patients.
