Abstract
[Purpose] To compare the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy in combination with neck retraction exercises and deep cervical flexor training on pain, forward head posture, and deep cervical flexor muscle strength in excessive screen time users. [Participants and Methods] This 4-week intervention study included 36 participants with forward head posture, categorized into three groups: 1) ultrasound therapy with neck retraction exercises 2) ultrasound therapy with deep cervical flexor training, and 3) a control group. The outcomes were pain, forward head posture, and strength of the deep cervical flexor muscles. [Results] The strength of the deep cervical flexor muscles exhibited a notable increase, indicating a relatively higher mean value in the first intervention group. Upon follow-up, significant changes in all outcomes were observed between the first intervention group and the control group. Also, significant differences were revealed in the deep cervical flexor muscles between the second intervention group and the control group. [Conclusion] Ultrasound therapy with neck retraction exercises could have a more positive effect on pain, forward head posture, and strength of the deep cervical flexor muscles in comparison to ultrasound therapy with deep cervical flexor training for excessive screen time users.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The cervical vertebrae and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may be linked through their common muscles. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to compare the linear intra-articular motions of the TMJ between individuals with the normal craniocervical posture (CCP) and severe forward head posture (FHP). DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS Volunteers (N = 38) were equally assigned to either the severe FHP group or the normal CCP group according to their craniovertebral angle (CVA). The CVA angles greater than 49° were considered as the normal CCP while angles between 44 and 40° were regarded as the severe FHP. The TMJ was imaged at the closed, median, and maximum open positions of the mouth using an ultrasound machine with a 7.5 MHz linear transducer in the sitting position. The best-fitting curve in the contour registration method was employed to measure displacement of the mandibular condyle on the transverse and vertical axes. RESULTS The forward displacement of the mandibular condyle in the severe FHP group was significantly (p-value = 0.037) reduced compared to the normal CCP group at maximum open position of the mouth, while no significant difference was revealed at closed (p-value = 0.937) or median open (p-value = 0.699) positions. The perpendicular displacement of the mandibular condyle exhibited no significant (p-value>0.107) difference between groups at any mouth position. DISCUSSION The current study demonstrated, for the first time, that severe FHP may impact the intra-articular motion of the TMJ. This study presumed that individuals with severe FHP may encounter a force imbalance in the anterior-posterior direction.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the accuracy of and determine the best cutoff point for craniovertebral angle (CVA) and forward shoulder angle (FSA) in discriminating between two groups of individuals with different severities of forward head posture (FHP). METHODS A sample of 90 subjects aged 20-50 who had different severities of FHP was recruited. Participants were categorized into two groups based on observational method, namely individuals with slight FHP and those with moderate-to-severe FHP. The CVA and FSA were assessed using the photographic device. The accuracy of these measures was determined by calculation of sensitivity, specificity, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, likelihood ratio (LR), and predictive value (PV). RESULTS Our results show that CVA has high sensitivity (0.93) and acceptable area under the curve (0.88) in discriminating between the two groups of FHP (P < .01), but FSA cannot discriminate between the two groups of FHP (P = .06). The LR and PV results show that the CVA has a low negative LR (0.13) and a large negative PV (0.93). The best cutoff point for CVA was determined at 45.5 degrees. CONCLUSION Overall, the results of the present study showed that CVA has a good accuracy in discriminating between two groups of individuals with slight and moderate-to-severe FHP. It can be valuable in correctly identifying the slight FHP and screening the moderate and severe grades of the FHP. Researchers and clinicians can also use the optimal cutoff point for the CVA obtained in this study to accurately quantify and classify the severity of the FHP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal disorders after childbirth are common, but current studies often have a narrow focus, concentrating on particular areas and neglecting a thorough evaluation of pain locations and overall severity. This research aimed to determine the occurrence, spread, severity, and root causes of musculoskeletal discomfort in females during the 6-8 week period after giving birth, focusing on investigating the link between pain and posture. METHODS This study collected data from 432 postpartum women, 6-8 weeks post-delivery, focusing on ten posture angles captured photographically and analysed using Exbody software. Participants also filled out structured questionnaires on pregnancy history, the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) scores, physical activity patterns, and involvement in household and neonatal care tasks. RESULTS In our research, 49.8% of the respondents experienced pain after childbirth in different regions of their bodies. Utilising SF-MPQ, the mean Pain Rating Index was 7.35 (SD = 5.93) and Present Pain Intensity and Visual Analog Scale was 3.13 (SD = 2.09). Among the evaluated postural angles, only the Q-angle exhibited a noteworthy correlation with knee discomfort. Individuals with less involvement in household and newborn care tasks had a significantly lower occurrence of postpartum pain, with a decrease of 76% (OR = 0.243, p = 0.001). Similarly, those who shared these responsibilities had a 53% decreased likelihood (OR = 0.468, p = 0.008) of experiencing postpartum pain. CONCLUSION Many postpartum women experience moderate-intensity pain in various body regions. Pain's correlation with posture was limited. Reducing physical strain during infant care notably decreased postpartum pain, underscoring the need for holistic support for postpartum women.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to determine the baseline knowledge and beliefs, along with the impact of incorporating surgical ergonomics lectures during a residency. METHODS A cohort of 123 Indian surgical residents participated in this educational intervention, which consisted of two educational webinars on ergonomics. Both pre- and post-intervention surveys were electronically sent to the participants. These included questions related to their demographics, prevalence of musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms, and factors affecting participant awareness of ergonomic recommendations. RESULTS Seventy-one residents responded to the pre-webinar survey. Eighty-five percent of respondents reported MSK symptoms, with the most common being pain (70%) and stiffness (40%), which the residents attributed to their surgical training. Forty-six residents completed the post-webinar survey. The majority of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that surgical ergonomic educational sessions improved their understanding of the fundamental causes of MSK symptoms and increased their awareness of options available for prevention MSK injuries. CONCLUSION The rate of MSK symptoms and/or injury was high among this cohort of surgical residents. These surveys and educational session demonstrated there is limited awareness of the comprehension of ergonomics related to surgical procedures. Our study shows that a simple surgical ergonomic educational intervention can lead to improved understanding of prevention and ergonomic changes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Activity of specific neck muscles is modulated by eye movement. This activity modulation is exaggerated in people with whiplash associated disorders (WAD), but it is unknown whether it is impacted by sitting posture. OBJECTIVE This study investigated; (i) whether activity of cervical muscles differs with spinal posture; (ii) whether the effect of eye gaze direction (horizontal/vertical) on neck muscle activity differs between postures, and (iii) whether these effects differ between individuals with and without WAD. METHODS In three seated postures (normal relaxed, head forward, sit tall) electromyography (EMG) was recorded right obliquus capitis inferior (OI), multifidus (MF), splenius capitis (SP) and left sternocleidomastoid (SCM) with fine-wire and surface electrodes in ten healthy controls and nine with WAD. Electro-oculography recorded eye movements. RESULTS In controls, EMG was less for extensor muscles in Sit Tall than Head Forward, but higher in SCM. Only SC EMG modulated with eye movement. When WAD participants adopted similar sitting postures several responses were different; compared to Normal Relaxed posture OI EMG was less in Head Forward; MF EMG was less in Sit Tall; and SC was less in Head Forward and Sit Tall. Neck muscles in WAD were generally more sensitive to eye movement, except SC which did not modulate. CONCLUSIONS These finding support the hypothesis that neck muscle activity is influenced by spinal posture and eye movement. In WAD, this relationship is distorted and the response to eye movement is increased. SIGNIFICANCE These observations have potential implications for clinical management of individuals with WAD.

Abstract
Real-time measurement of the craniovertebral, thoracic kyphosis, and lumbar lordosis angles during natural and smartphone usage postures in sitting were analysed in a cohort of 560 adolescents using independent t-tests and Spearman's correlations between their reported musculoskeletal symptoms, daily device use and school year. Students with musculoskeletal symptoms (mean difference: 4.1-9.4°, p < .001) and in secondary schools (mean difference: 13.6-29.4°, p < .001) had a greater forward-head posture quantified by craniovertebral angle in both postures. Loss of lumbar lordosis was found in students spending ≥2 h/day on electronic devices (mean difference: 3.2°, p = .029) and those with musculoskeletal symptoms (mean difference: 5.4°, p = .001). Secondary school students exhibited a greater thoracic kyphosis when using smartphones (mean difference: 3.3°, p = .003). Findings suggest the urgent need for early and proactive intervention targeted to minimise the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders related to intense device use for young adolescents.Practitioner Summary: Adolescents: (1) in higher school year had increased forward-head posture (FHP) and thoracic kyphosis; (2) with musculoskeletal symptoms had increased FHP and loss of lumbar lordosis, and; (3) with extended device use had a loss of lumbar lordosis. Early intervention targeting young adolescents promoting optimal posture and habit of device use is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study "Effectiveness of Mckenzie approach and segmental spinal stabilization exercises on neck pain in individuals with cervical postural syndrome: an experimental study" was conducted to study and find the effectiveness of Mckenzie approach and segmental spinal stabilization exercises on reduction of pain, correction of rounded shoulder, and disability. Pain, disability, and rounded shoulders are the major limiting factors as it affects the quality of life and reduces efficiency and social participation. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was conducted among 120 individuals with cervical postural syndrome, and fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria was included. The outcome measures were Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and Vernier caliper to evaluate pain, functional disability, and rounded shoulder, respectively. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, by using SPSS software. Interventional training was given for 6 weeks to the patients. Group A subjects were given spinal stabilization exercises. Group B subjects were given Mckenzie approach. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS; pre-test and post-test were used to calculate the results, followed by data presentation and analysis. RESULT The result showed that at the end of the 6 weeks on comparison between pre- and post-intervention of Group A and Group B, both the techniques were effective, but group B was significantly effective than Group A. CONCLUSION It was noted that McKenzie approach and segmental spinal stabilization exercises were effective on neck pain in individuals with cervical postural syndrome, but on comparing both techniques, Mckenzie protocol is more beneficial than segmental spinal stabilization exercises. The study accepts the alternate hypothesis that there is significant effect of McKenzie approach and segmental spinal stabilization exercises on neck pain in individuals with cervical postural syndrome.

Abstract
This study aims to compare changes in neck angles, muscle activities, ergonomic risk and body discomfort caused by use of two different computer screen sizes. The 36 female users who participated used displays with 46.99 and 58.42-cm screen sizes and were assessed for craniocervical angle (CCA), craniovertebral angle (CVA), upper trapezius (UT) and sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle activity, ergonomic risk and body discomfort for a duration of 1 h. The results showed there were no significant differences when comparing usage between both computer screen sizes (p > 0.05). However, there were significant differences in the CCA, UT muscle activity and body discomfort when comparing before and after usage for both computer screen sizes (p < 0.05). The results indicate that computer users can select different screen sizes for working but should be concerned with neck angle, muscle activity and body discomfort when using for long periods of time.

Abstract
Background Neck pain (NP) is common in all age groups and adversely affects the patients' entire lifestyle. There exists inconclusive evidence relating faulty craniocervical posture with pain-related disability. This review aims to determine whether sagittal head and neck posture differs in NP and pain-free subjects, to critically appraise the correlation of posture with NP. Methods Of 3796 articles identified at primary search from CINAHL, PubMed, Google Scholar, EMBASE, 26 were included based on eligibility criteria. Mean pooled difference (MPD) and effect size (ES) were calculated to establish relationship among studies, to assess postural correlation with NP measures [Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), neck disability index (NDI), Northwick Park NP Questionnaire (NPQ)] and for age- and gender-wise variation. Risk of bias was assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. Results Craniovertebral angle (CVA) had a significant MPD of - 2.93(95% CI - 4.95 to - 0.91). Sagittal head angle (SHA) and forward head posture (FHP) had an insignificant MPD of 1.15 (95% CI - 1.16 to 3.46) and - 0.26 (95% CI - 1.89 to 1.36), respectively. Age- and gender-wise CVA difference was found to be 2.36° and 2.57°, respectively. ES was significant for correlation between CVA and pain intensity [NPRS: - 0.44 (95% CI - 0.61 to - 0.26); VAS: - 0.31 (95% CI - 0.46 to - 0.16)], and between CVA and disability [NDI: - 0.18 (95% CI - 0.31 to - 0.05); NPQ: - 0.47 (95% CI - 0.61 to - 0.320)]. Conclusion CVA differs for age, gender, and pain vs pain-free subjects, and correlates negatively with NP measures. Other surrogate measures (SHA, cranial and cervical angles, FHP) warrant further research. PROSPERO Registration PROSPERO 2021 CRD42021275485.

Abstract
The prevalence of neck pain, a chronic musculoskeletal disease, has significantly increased due to the uncontrollable use of social media (SM) devices. The use of SM devices by younger generations increased enormously during the COVID-19 pandemic, being-in some cases-the only possibility for maintaining interpersonal, social, and friendship relationships. This study aimed to predict the occurrence of neck pain and its correlation with the intensive use of SM devices. It is based on nine quantitative parameters extracted from the retrospective X-ray images. The three parameters related to angle_1 (i.e., the angle between the global horizontal and the vector pointing from C7 vertebra to the occipito-cervical joint), angle_2 (i.e., the angle between the global horizontal and the vector pointing from C1 vertebra to the occipito-cervical joint), and the area between them were measured from the shape of the neck vertebrae, while the rest of the parameters were extracted from the images using the gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). In addition, the users' ages and the duration of the SM usage (H.mean) were also considered. The decision tree (DT) machine-learning algorithm was employed to predict the abnormal cases (painful subjects) against the normal ones (no pain). The results showed that angle_1, area, and the image contrast significantly increased statistically with the time of SM-device usage, precisely in the range of 2 to 9 h. The DT showed a promising result demonstrated by classification accuracy and F1-scores of 94% and 0.95, respectively. Our findings confirmed that the objectively detected parameters, which elucidate the negative impacts of SM-device usage on neck pain, can be predicted by DT machine learning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Using a laptop for work is gaining rapid popularity, but there is little evidence of how it influences musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the prevalence of upper body MSDs and functional characteristics of the neck between office workers using a laptop or desktop computer. METHODS A total of 110 office workers with a mean age of 41±10 years participated. 45 office workers (73% female) used a laptop and 65 office workers (86% female) used desktop computers. The prevalence of MSDs was recorded using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Active range of motion (AROM), maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) force, joint position error (JPE), and pain-pressure threshold (PPT) of the neck and shoulder area were measured. RESULTS Laptop users experienced significantly more MSDs in the right shoulder area on the day of participation (p < 0.001, OR = 4.47), during the previous 7 days (p < 0.01, OR = 3.74), and at 6 months (p < 0.01, OR = 3.57). Laptop users also experienced significantly more MSDs in the left shoulder during the previous 7 days (p < 0.05, OR = 2.44). There were no statistically significant differences in any of the functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area between the groups. CONCLUSION Using the laptop computer for office work may pose a higher risk of developing MSDs in the right shoulder area, but might not have long-term effects on the functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area.

Abstract
Neck pain is identified as the ache, irritation and discomfort in the area below your head up to third Thoracic vertebrae. It can radiate to shoulders, arms and fingers also. The presenting complaints of cervical patients include headache, stiff neck, stress, muscle pain, fever, and tenderness, radiating pain, weakness in the arm and difficulty in lifting or gripping activities. Patients may also present with numbness, tingling and weakness of the arm. Objective: To determine the prevalence of neck and back pain among gynecologists and obstetrics in different tertiary care hospitals of Lahore. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 310 gynecologist and obstetrics that were recruited using non-probability convenience sampling. The cases of the neck pain were recruited from the obstetrics and gynecology department of different hospitals including: Fatima Memorial Hospital, Shalimar Hospital, Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. Research was completed within six months from 23 October 2021 to 30th April 2022. Results: Among 310 participants, 196 (63.2%) reported neck pain among which; 153 (44.4%) gynecologists reported pain two times per week. Out of total, 306 (98.7%) reported fatigue especially on long days. Results regarding pain area showed that 196 (63.2%) had neck pain, 64 (24.6%) had back pain and 50 (16.1%) had shoulder pain. Results regarding frequency of pain showed that out of 310 (100%), 153 (49.4%) had pain 2 times per week and 105 (33.9%) had pain 0-2 times per month. Conclusions: Prevalence of low back pain was 20.65% whereas prevalence of neck pain in gynecologists was 63.23%. The study suggests that neck pain and fatigue were common in gynecologists and obstetrics. They lack of postural awareness and don’t follow ergonomics principles during surgical procedures.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate differences between individuals with various forward head posture (FHP) severities with and without postural neck pain using craniovertebral angle and forward shoulder angle. METHOD Ninety participants age 20 to 50 years were categorized into the following 4 groups based on observational method and presence or absence of postural neck pain: (1) slight FHP group without pain, (2) slight FHP group with pain, (3) moderate-to-severe FHP group without pain, and (4) moderate-to-severe FHP group with pain. A digital imaging technique was used to measure the craniovertebral angle and forward shoulder angle in a standing position. RESULTS A 1-way analysis of variance test showed a significant difference for craniovertebral angle in the 4 groups (F = 22.04, P < .001). Tukey's test showed the difference in this variable was significant between slight FHP groups (with or without pain) and moderate-to-severe FHP groups (with or without pain) (P < .001). Although overall F indicated a significant difference (F = 4.11, P < .009) of the forward shoulder angle in 4 groups, Tukey's test revealed this was only significantly different in 2 groups: slight FHP with pain and moderate-to-severe FHP with pain (P = .005). CONCLUSION The craniovertebral angle in the 2 groups of moderate-to-severe FHP was significantly smaller than that in the 2 groups of slight FHP. However, the forward shoulder angle in the group of moderate-to-severe FHP with pain was only significantly smaller than that in slight FHP with pain. The results showed that including pain as a factor of categorization did not lead to a significant difference between various groups regarding craniovertebral angle and forward shoulder angle.

Abstract
Introduction and Aim: The chronic nonspecific neck pain is common in all age groups since it is non-specific it may be due to any reasons right from school children to elderly. Factors like muscle strain, worn joints, nerve compression, poor posture, neck pain are found to reduce the cervical angle. The aim of the study is to find the efficacy of physiotherapy intervention on craniovertebral angle, craniohorizontal angle, neck muscle strength and hand grip in subjects with chronic nonspecific neck pain.
Materials and Methods: The subjects with chronic nonspecific neck pain (n=30) were selected randomly from the physiotherapy outpatient department of ACS medical college and hospital as per inclusion criteria and divided into two groups. The pre-test and post-test measurements of craniovertebral and craniohorizontal angles, craniovertebral angle were measured using on protractor mobile app. The neck muscle strength was measured using modified dial sphygmomanometer and hand grip was measured using hand held dynamometer. Group A received craniocervical flexion exercise and group B received stretching and strengthening for a period of 12 weeks. Post test was conducted after 12 weeks.
Results: The comparison within Group A and Group B pre- and post-test values in both groups showed highly significant difference in mean values at P ? 0.001, but group A which has a higher mean value is more effective in craniovertebral angle, craniohorizontal angle, neck muscle strength (Flexor and Extensor) and hand grip.
Conclusion: The craniocervical flexion exercise given to chronic nonspecific neck pain patients was found to reduce neck pain by improving the neck muscle strength, hand grip strength and by correcting the craniocervical and craniohorizontal angles.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have addressed the effects of different exercises and modalities on forward head posture (FHP), but the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the effect of exercises on FHP remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of selective corrective exercises (SCEs) on the craniovertebral angle (CVA) and shoulder angle (SA) in students with FHP and to establish MCID for these angles. METHODS In this randomized clinical trial study, a total of 103 second-grade male students with FHP were enrolled. Participants were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. CVA and SA of participants were measured before and after the 8-week selective corrective exercise program (including strengthening and stretching exercises). The photogrammetric method was used to measure CVA and SA. MCID value was calculated for CVA and SA using the distribution method. RESULTS The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of CVA (F = 89.04, P = 0.005, Effect size = 0.47) and SA (F = 18.83, P = 0.005, Effect size = 0.16). After eight weeks of selective corrective exercises, the MCID values of CVA and SA were 1.40° and 1.34°, respectively. CONCLUSION This study revealed that the selective corrective exercises might lead to postural correction of students having FHP problem. Results further indicated that a corrective exercise program would be considered beneficial if it increased CVA and SA values at least 1.40 and 1.34 degrees, respectively.

Abstract
The INYBI is an instrument used to release the suboccipital myofascial area. There is scarce evidence of its efficacy. A randomized controlled, double-blinded, longitudinal and prospective trial was performed. Ninety-six subjects (aged 29.47 ± 5.16 years) (70 women) with chronic neck pain were randomly assigned to the manual suboccipital inhibition technique (MSIT), instrumental suboccipital inhibition (INYBI) or the INYBI plus upper cervical manipulation technique (INYBI + UCMT) groups and received two sessions with a week interval between them. The Neck Disability Index was used before the first intervention and two weeks after the second intervention. Pre- and post-measurements were taken on both intervention days for pressure pain threshold of the upper trapezius and suboccipital muscles, self-perceived pain and cervical range of motion. In spite of a significant general improvement in time that was found for the three groups for all of the outcome measurements (p < 0.05 in all cases), no between-groups differences were found (p > 0.05 in all cases), with the exception of self-perceived pain for left rotation (p = 0.024), with the MSIT group showing the lower improvement. However, the higher degree of within-group improvements was found for the INYBI + UCMT group. It was concluded that the myofascial release therapy in the suboccipital area is effective in patients with chronic neck pain, either through a manual application or by means of the INYBI tool. Moreover, the addition of craniocervical manipulation achieved the higher within-group improvements, but with no statistical significance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are currently no reports of biomechanical changes in patients with forward head posture (FHP) that result in altered muscle activation throughout various functions with muscle activation response during diverse sleep postures. OBJECTIVE This study investigated neck and back muscle activity in individuals with and without FHP during a maintained side-sleeping position by incorporating various pillow designs. METHODS Thirty-four participants (i.e., 17 in each group) were enrolled. The muscle activity was investigated via surface electromyography during the use of three trial pillows: orthopedic pillow, hollow pillow, and Thai neck support pillow. RESULTS With the application of all three trial pillow, the FHP group demonstrated significantly greater middle-lower trapezius muscle activity than the normal head posture group (p< 0.05). Sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius (UT) muscle activity were similar between the two groups (p> 0.05). Only UT muscle activity was affected by variations in pillow design. In the normal group, no difference was observed in the muscle activity between all three pillows (p> 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Feasibly, the ability to appropriately modify a pillow configuration without creating undesired muscle activation was limited to those exhibiting FHP. Therefore, specially designed pillows or mattresses should be investigated in terms of their relevance to muscle fatigue and potential musculoskeletal pain in FHP patients.

Abstract
Background Abnormal posture can affect the alignment of the cervical spine, which can lead to various physical problems. There are many ways to solve the problem by limiting the area around the neck to restore abnormal neck condition. However, there is a need to look at these problems from an enlarged perspective through the relationship between the cervical spine and trunk. This study aimed to investigate the significance of the thickness of the transverse abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique muscles in patients with forward head posture and reduced cranio-vertebral angle. Material/Methods We included 24 healthy adult males in their 20s without lower back pain. The cranio-vertebral angle (CVA) in all the subjects was measured with the help of pictures taken in the sagittal plane using a digital camera. The thickness of muscles, including transverse abdominis (TrA), internal oblique (IO), and external oblique (EO), was measured using a diagnostic ultrasound device. Pearson’s correlation analysis was used to identify the correlation between the variables measured. Results CVA showed a statistically significant correlation with TrA thickness (r=0.506/p=0.012), and among the abdominal muscles, there was a significant correlation between IO and EO thickness (r=0.663/p=0.000). Conclusions A reduced CVA due to FHP was significantly associated with reduced TrA thickness. Therefore, increasing the bulk of the abdominal muscles with restoration of the abnormal CVA is a potential treatment approach and requires further study.

Abstract
The present observational prospective study analyzes the eating habits in association with the medico-oral health of catering workers, since they seem the category at higher risk of developing dental problems. Objective: To evaluate oral and medical health through a questionnaire in a total sample of 603 participants. Additionally, this article aims to provide information regarding the medico-oral implications of an unbalanced diet linked to this particular profession. Material and methods: A questionnaire created through Google Forms platform was sent to all members of the Italian Federation of Chefs (FIC). The mean age was 46.9 ± 32.6 ranging from 17 to 66 years old. Results: Catering workers’ years of service showed a significant impact on the presence of teeth pain (p < 0.05), missing teeth (excluding the third molars) (p < 0.01), treatment with prothesis (p < 0.01), dental fillings (p < 0.01), dental extractions (p < 0.01), diabetes (p < 0.05), high blood pressure (p < 0.01), joint pain (p < 0.01), back pain (p < 0.01), neck pain (p < 0.01), and gastroesophageal reflux (p < 0.05). Conclusions: A conspicuous part of the study sample was overweight, with a high BMI. Moreover, the years of service in this field showed significant impact on dental problems. Therefore, a very important role is that of preventing dental problems and giving information on the causes and effects unknown to many workers in the sector.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine whether sagittal neck sitting posture subgroup membership in late adolescence was a risk factor for persistent neck pain (PNP) in young adults. METHODS There were 686 participants enrolled in the Raine Study at the 17- and 22-year follow-ups. At 17 years of age, posture was measured by photographs, and 4 subgroups of sitting neck posture were determined by cluster analysis. Height and weight were measured, and exercise frequency, depression, and PNP were assessed by questionnaire. At 22 years of age, participants answered questions about neck pain and occupation type. Logistic regression examined if neck posture subgroups at 17 years of age were a risk factor for PNP at 22 years of age, taking into account other factors. RESULTS Female sex (odds ratio [OR] = 1.75, 95% CI = 1.16-2.65) and PNP at 17 years of age (OR = 3.78, 95% CI = 2.57-5.57) were associated with PNP at 22 years of age. In females, neck posture subgroup at 17 years of age was a risk factor for PNP at 22 years of age. Compared with the upright subgroup, both the slumped thorax/forward head subgroup groups and the intermediate subgroup had decreased odds for PNP at 22 years of age (OR = 0.24, 95% CI = 0.08-0.76; OR = 0.38, 95% CI = 0.15-0.99, respectively). No association was found in males. CONCLUSION After taking into account PNP at 17 years, sitting neck posture at 17 was not a risk factor for PNP at 22 years of age in males, whereas in females, more relaxed postures (slumped thorax/forward head and Intermediate postures) were protective of neck pain compared with upright posture. IMPACT Females in late adolescence who sat in slumped thorax/forward head or intermediate posture rather than upright sitting posture had a lower risk of PNP as a young adult. The practice of generic public health messages to sit up straight to prevent neck pain needs rethinking.

Abstract
PURPOSE The prolonged change in the head posture alters the morphological characteristics of cervical vertebrae. The difference in the head posture among subjects with short, normal, and long anterior facial heights might have a significant influence on the morphological characteristics of cervical vertebrae. Thus, the present study was conducted to evaluate the morphometric characteristics of cervical vertebrae in subjects with short, normal, and long faces. METHODS Based on Frankfort mandibular plane angle (FMA) on lateral cephalograms, 135 subjects were equally divided into three groups, i.e. Group I [Short face], II [Normal face], and III [Long face]. The angular variables like Atlas-dens angle (ADA), Pars interarticularis-dens angle (PDA), Pars interarticularis-vertebrae angle of C3 vertebrae (PVA3), Pars interarticularis-vertebrae angle of C4 vertebrae (PVA4), Lamina-Pars interarticularis angle of C2 vertebrae (LP2), Lamina-Pars interarticularis angle of C3 vertebrae (LP3), and Lamina-Pars interarticularis angle of C4 vertebrae (LP4) in the first four cervical vertebrae were measured, analyzed, and compared. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, Bonferroni, and Pearson's correlation coefficient tests were used. The P value of 0.05 was considered as the level of significance. RESULTS All parameters except PDA and PVA3 were comparable among the groups. The PDA was 54.350 ± 1.870, 57.890 ± 1.550, and 60.290 ± 2.830 in Group I, II, and III, respectively; these differences were statistically significant [P < 0.001]. The PVA3 was 42.700 ± 5.640 in Group I, 45.850 ± 3.820 in Group II, and 45.590 ± 5.530 in Group III subjects that were also statistically significant [P < 0.01]. A fairly strong positive correlation was observed between FMA and PDA. CONCLUSION A significant difference was found in the PDA among subjects with short, normal, and long faces. The vertical height of the face had a strong correlation with the morphology of axis vertebra.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are common in the dental hygiene profession. Awkward postures contribute to MSDs and magnification loupes have been suggested to reduce this risk factor and minimize MSDs. METHODS After IRB approval, 24 hygienists were enrolled in the study: twelve hygienists wearing loupes with a standard manufacturer determined declination angle (control) and 12 hygienists wearing loupes with a custom measured declination angle (experimental). To measure changes in neck and trunk flexion, accelerometers were placed on the occipital region of head, cervical vertebrae C5, and thoracic vertebrae T5 and baseline posture was recorded. Typodonts with artificial calculus simulated the oral environment. Participants were randomly assigned to wear their designated loupes during the first or second trial of the experiment and scaled in each quadrant (UR, LR, UL, LL) of the mouth for two minutes. Participants completed the scaling task twice: in the loupes and no loupes condition in a counterbalanced order. Three-way mixed design ANOVA was used to determine posture differences in neck and trunk posture. RESULTS Those wearing custom loupes (M = 16.52, SD = 6.40) had significantly less trunk flexion while scaling compared to hygienists wearing standard loupes (M = 22.27, SD = 6.40), F(1, 22) = 7.14, P = .01. Neck flexion was not significantly affected while scaling between loupes vs no loupes or loupes type condition, (P's > .05). CONCLUSION Posture was partially impacted by loupes type. Custom loupes resulted in less trunk flexion. Neck flexion was not affected by either loupes type.

Background
Forward head and rounded shoulder posture (FHRSP) is a common clinical postural misalignment. It leads to flexion posture of the spine which increases the amount of tension on the nerve roots, which inversely affects muscle strength and function of the upper extremity. So, this study was conducted to examine the effect of FHRSP on hand grip strength in asymptomatic young adults and to explore the relationship between the craniovertebral angle (CVA) and hand grip strength.
Results
There was no significant difference in hand grip strength between the groups (p = 0.812). There was no correlation between the CVA and right and left hand grip of the normal group (p = 0.840, 0.816 respectively), rounded shoulder posture (RSP) group (p = 0.523, 0.650 respectively), and FHRSP group (p = 0.855, 0.736 respectively). Regarding the right and left hand grip strength, there was no significant difference between the groups (p = 0.798, 0.826 respectively). The right hand grip strength was significantly higher than the left hand for all groups (p = 0.001).
Conclusion
This study displayed that hand grip strength was not affected by FHRSP nor RSP in asymptomatic young adults. Moreover, the degree of the CVA was not associated with an inverse effect on hand grip strength.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Forward flexed posture is an impairment in body structure commonly seen among older adults and those with pathologies such as ankylosing spondylitis and osteoporosis. Accurate measurement of forward flexed posture is important as it is related to pain, mobility limitations, and falls. Our purpose was to examine the reliability and determinants of forward flexed posture as indicated by tragus-to-wall (TTW) distance. METHODS Twenty healthy younger and 20 healthy older adults were included in this secondary analysis of data from a neck strength study. Measurements included the linear distance of TTW standing naturally and with neck retraction, age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and neck retraction strength. Measurements were performed initially by 2 investigators and by the primary investigator 1 week later. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) (model 3,1) described relative reliability and Bland-Altman plots characterized absolute reliability. A mixed general linear model examined the determinants for TTW distance. RESULTS Good inter-rater (ICC = 0.811-0.878) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.853-0.862) were found in both positions. Bland-Altman plots showed that absolute limits of agreement ranged from - 1.9 to +3.8 cm for inter-rater reliability and -2.4 to +2.6 cm for test-retest reliability. Analysis of TTW determinants demonstrated significant differences between neck positions, dichotomous age groups, and BMI groups (p ≤ 0.001). There was no significant difference based on neck strength. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate that TTW distance, measured using a standardized procedure, is a reliable method of quantifying forward flexed posture. TTW distance is greater in relaxed standing, older individuals, and those with greater BMI.

Abstract
Background Neck and Back Pain in Students is closely related to the school bags that they carry. There is a dearth of literature in terms of postural changes due to school bags in adolescents, especially those discussing postural changes in static and dynamic loading conditions. Objective To assess the effects of weight, position, and time of school bag carriage in static and dynamic conditions on cervical and shoulder posture in adolescent students. Subjects Seventy adolescents (35 Females, 35 Males) between 10 and 15 years of age. Methods: Craniohorizontal Angle, Craniovertebral Angle, Sagittal Shoulder Posture, Anterior Head Alignment were assessed in 7 different conditions using Photographic Method and MB Ruler. Results and Conclusion Significant changes in Sagittal Shoulder Posture and Craniohorizontal Angle were found with unilateral school bag carriage as compared to minimal significant postural changes with bilateral carriage. Maximal significant postural changes, in terms of all outcome measures were noted during loaded dynamic activity. Craniovertebral Angle kept significantly reducing with time. Immediate assessments taken with a school bag weighing 13.5% of the body weight showed a significant decrement in the Craniohorizontal Angle. Even a bag weighing less than 10% of the body weight proved to bring about biomechanical changes, when assessments were taken during the activities that a child has to perform with a school bag (Post Standing, Post Walking, and During Walking).

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to describe the reliability and validity of measurements of cervical retraction strength obtained with a hand held dynamometer (HHD) from healthy adults. Background: Impaired neck muscle strength is related to neck pain, abnormal posture, and various cervical pathologies. While sophisticated devices to objectively measure neck strength exist, many are not practicable in typical orthopedic practices or have questionable validity and reliability. Methods: Forty participants were included in the analysis of neck strength using isometric testing with an HHD fixed in a cradle on a table top. The highest neck retraction force recorded in Newtons (N) for each participant, was used for data analysis. Results: Both intratester and intertester reliability were excellent as judged by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) (.885 - .974) and minimal detectable change (MDC) (21.1 to 47.6 N). Validity was confirmed on the basis of expected gender and age differences (ie, men were stronger than women and younger participants were stronger than older participants). Conclusion: Fixed HHD is a reliable and valid tool for measuring isometric neck retraction strength in ostensibly healthy adults. Its value in the assessment of individuals with neck pathology awaits further examination.
