Abstract
Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharides (SFPs) are acidic polysaccharides that possess significant medicinal and commercial potential. This review aims to summarize recent advances in the structure, extraction methods, and diverse biological activities of SFPs, including their antioxidant, antitumor, immunomodulatory, antiviral, intestinal flora-regulating, and anti-diabetic properties. The key findings reveal the complex composition of polysaccharides, highlighting alginic acid, fucoidan, and laminaran as the primary constituents, and detailing their structural features. At the same time, the characteristics as well as the advantages and disadvantages of hot water extraction, acid extraction, alkali extraction, ultrasonic extraction, microwave extraction, and enzyme extraction were systematically compared. Finally, this review concludes by emphasizing the necessity for further research to elucidate the structure-function relationships of SFPs, optimize their extraction techniques, and provide a theoretical foundation for subsequent studies.

Abstract
In current study, polysaccharides from Hericium coralloides were extracted by heat reflux, acid-assisted, alkali-assisted, enzyme-assisted, ultrasonic-assisted, cold water, pressurized hot water, hydrogen peroxide/ascorbic acid system and acid-chlorite delignification methods, which were named as HRE-P, ACE-P, AAE-P, EAE-P, UAE-P, CWE-P, PHE-P, HAE-P, and ACD-P, respectively. Their physicochemical properties, structural characteristics, and antioxidant activities were investigated and compared. Experimental outcomes indicated notable variations in the extraction yields, chemical compositions, monosaccharide constituents and molecular weights of the obtained nine polysaccharides. HRE-P demonstrated the highest activity against ABTS and OH radicals, CWE-P against ABTS, DPPH, and superoxide radicals, and UAE-P against DPPH radicals. In addition, UAE-P, CWE-P, and HAE-P exhibited better protective effects on L929 cells, when compared to the other obtained polysaccharides. Additionally, correlation analysis indicated that monosaccharide composition and total polyphenol content were two prominent variables influencing the bioactivity of H. coralloides polysaccharides.

Abstract
Our study investigated heat pump drying (HPD) effects on phenolic-polysaccharide adducts of three lychee pulp grades, their composition and bound phenolic contents. During HPD, the hexose content in water soluble polysaccharide (WSP) increased continuously, and the pentose and glucuronic acid contents in WSP and dilute alkali soluble pectin (ASP) together with the hexose content in ASP increased initially and then decreased due to polysaccharide hydrolases pectinase, polygalacturonase and cellulase. After HPD, the bound phenolic content in WSP, ASP and water unextractable polysaccharide (WUP) significantly increased. Protocatechualdehyde and 3,4-dihydroxybenzeneacetic acid were newly generated phenolics and the former combined with all the three polysaccharide grades, while the latter selectively combined with only WSP. During HPD, WSP and ASP surface structures were gradually broken and became loose, but WUP surface structure was a complete and rough sheet structure. Alkaline hydrolysis caused sparser, more porous surfaces of the three polysaccharide grades. The polyphenol selectivity could be related to substrate selectivity of endogenous oxidases and the type of phenolic compounds.

Abstract
We optimized an ultrasound-assisted extraction process of Phellinus linteus mycelium polysaccharides (PLPs) and studied their monosaccharide composition and bacteriostatic properties. Based on a single-factor experiment, a three-factor, three-level Box-Behnken design was used to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction process of PLP, using the yield of PLP as the index. The chemical composition and monosaccharide composition of PLP were determined by chemical analysis and HPLC analysis, respectively. Microscopic morphological analysis of the surface of PLP was performed via swept-surface electron microscopy. The bacteriostatic properties of PLP were determined using the spectrophotometric turbidimetric method. The results showed that the best extraction process of PLP with ultrasonic assistance achieved a result of 1:42 g/mL. In this method, the ultrasonic temperature was 60 °C, ultrasonic extraction was performed for 20 min, and the yield of PLP was 12.98%. The monosaccharide composition of PLP mainly contains glucose (Glc), mannose (Man), galactose (Gal), and glucuronic acid (GlcA). The intracellular polysaccharide of Phellinus igniarius Mycelia (PIP) is an irregular spherical accumulation, the surface is rough and not smooth, and the extracellular polysaccharide (PEP) is a crumbly accumulation. PIP has a stronger inhibitory ability for S. aureus and E. coli and a slightly weaker inhibitory effect for B. subtilis; the inhibitory effect of PEP on S. aureus, E. coli, and B. subtilis is slightly inferior to that of PIP.

Abstract
The biological activities of Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharides (SFP) were affected significantly by the extraction method. In order to screen the optimum extraction technology for SFP with high yield and biological activities, six extraction methods, including hot water extraction (HWE), acid-assisted extraction (ACAE), alkali-assisted extraction (ALAE), ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE), microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and hydrogen peroxide/ascorbic acid-assisted extraction (HAE) were compared for the preparation of SFP. Based on the yield and in vitro antioxidant activity of the crude polysaccharides obtained by the six extraction methods, HAE was selected for the extraction of SFP. The SFP prepared by HAE (H-SFP) was purified by cellulose DEAE-52 ion-exchange chromatography, obtaining two purified fractions, namely H-SFP3 and H-SFP5. The analyses of their chemical composition, physico-chemical properties and the antioxidant capacity were performed. It was found that the crude SFP and the purified fractions possessed considerable ability to scavenge DPPH, hydroxyl and ABTS•+ radicals. These polysaccharide fractions were also found to effectively reduce the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and increase the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in H2O2-induced oxidative stress RAW264.7 cells. The SFP prepared by the HAE has the potential as a natural non-toxic antioxidant and can be used as an ingredient in functional foods.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFPS I, II, and III) on the apoptosis and regulation of human erythroleukemia (HEL) cells. The effect of different doses of SFPS on HEL cell growth was detected using the Cell Counting Kit-8 method, and apoptosis was detected by Hoechst staining. Cell cycle distribution and apoptosis were detected using flow cytometry. Expression of the cell cycle gene, p53, antiapoptotic genes, Bcl-xL and Bcl-2, and pro-apoptotic genes, Bax, Bad, and Caspase-3, as well as the expression of the corresponding proteins, were detected using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and Western blot. The results showed that SFPS II and III decreased HEL cell viability and induced HEL cell apoptosis. Different concentrations of SFPS (I, II, and III) were detected that induced much less toxic effect in normal human embryonic lung (MRC-5) cells, and SFPS I increased cell proliferation, indicating its favorable selectivity towards cancer cells. The mechanism by which SFPS induced apoptosis was also found to be related to the induction of cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase and the increased expression of apoptosis-related genes and proteins. We concluded that SFPS induces HEL cell apoptosis, possibly via activation of the Caspase pathway, providing the theoretical basis for the development of SFPS-based anti-tumor drug products.

Abstract
Marine macroalgal (seaweed) polysaccharides are highly promising for next-generation applications in several industries. However, despite the reported comprehensive potential of these polysaccharides, commercial products are scarce on the market. Seaweed cultivations are increasing in number and production quantity, owing to an elevated global trend of utilization interest in seaweed. The extraction of polysaccharides from seaweed generally generates low yields, but novel methods are being developed to facilitate and improve the extraction processes. Current areas of applications for seaweed polysaccharides mainly take advantage of the physicochemical properties of certain polysaccharides, such as gelling, thickening and emulsifying. However, many of the numerous bioactivities reported are still only at research level and lack clinical evidence for commercialization. It has been suggested the construction of smaller units may generate better defined molecules that are more suitable for biomedical applications. Enzymatic modification is a promising tool for the generation of more defined, targeted biomolecules. This review covers; structural differences between the most predominant marine algal polysaccharides, extraction processes, modification alternatives, as well as a summary of current and potential next-generation application areas.

Abstract
Sargassum fusiforme is a kind of brown algae that has been widely consumed not only as food, but also as herbal medicine for thousands of years. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activities and intestinal functions of polysaccharides extracted from S. fusiforme (SFP) in normal and cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppressed mice. The experiment was performed on six groups of ICR mice, which treated with cyclophosphamide (CY, 200 mg/kg) or different dosages of SFP for 14 days. The results showed that administration of SFP was able to overcome the immunosuppression, and significantly increased the spleen index and antioxidant activities in mice (P<0.05). It also remarkably improved the numbers of jejunal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and goblet cells in immunosuppressed mice (P<0.05). For normal mice, SFP increased both thymus index and intestinal function parameters such as villus length/crypt depth ratio and intestinal IELs and goblet cells (P<0.05). The results suggested that SFP, possessing pronounced antioxidant activities, may play an important role in the improvement of intestinal function in mice. This might be one of the possible mechanisms of SFP for the immunomodulatory effects.
