Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by squamous and erythematous plaques on the skin and the involvement of the immune system. Global prevalence for psoriasis has been reported around 1-3% with a higher incidence in adults and similar proportions between men and women. The risk factors associated with psoriasis are both extrinsic and intrinsic, out of which a polygenic predisposition is a highlight out of the latter. Psoriasis etiology is not yet fully described, but several hypothesis have been proposed: 1) the autoimmunity hypothesis is based on the over-expression of antimicrobial peptides such as LL-37, the proteins ADAMTSL5, K17, and hsp27, or lipids synthesized by the PLA2G4D enzyme, all of which may serve as autoantigens to promote the differentiation of autoreactive lymphocytes T and unleash a chronic inflammatory response; 2) dysbiosis of skin microbiota hypothesis in psoriasis has gained relevance due to the observations of a loss of diversity and the participation of pathogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus spp. or Staphylococcus spp. the fungi Malassezia spp. or Candida spp. and the virus HPV, HCV, or HIV in psoriatic plaques; 3) the oxidative stress hypothesis, the most recent one, describes that the cell injury and the release of proinflammatory mediators and antimicrobial peptides that leads to activate of the Th1/Th17 axis observed in psoriasis is caused by a higher release of reactive oxygen species and the imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant mechanisms. This review aims to describe the mechanisms involved in the three hypotheses on the etiopathogeneses of psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, the prevalence of which is increasing. Genetic, genomic, and epigenetic changes play a significant role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. This review summarizes the impact of epigenetics on the development of psoriasis and highlights challenges for the future. The development of epigenetics provides a basis for the search for genetic markers associated with the major histocompatibility complex. Genome-wide association studies have made it possible to link psoriasis to genes and therefore to epigenetics. The acquired knowledge may in the future serve as a solid foundation for developing newer, increasingly effective methods of treating psoriasis. In this narrative review, we discuss the role of epigenetic factors in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disease, imposes a huge mental and physical burden on patients and severely affects their quality of life. Punicalagin (PU), the most abundant ellagitannin in pomegranates, has become a research hotspot owing to its diverse biological activities. However, its effects on psoriasis remain unclear. We explored the impact and molecular mechanism of PU on M5-stimulated keratinocyte cell lines and imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation in BABL/c mice using western blotting, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescent. Administration of PU-enriched pomegranate extract at dosages of 150 and 250 mg/kg/day markedly attenuated psoriatic severity, abrogated splenomegaly, and reduced IMQ-induced abnormal epidermal proliferation, CD4+ T-cell infiltration, and inflammatory factor expression. Moreover, PU could decrease expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-1α, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, IL-17A, IL-22, IL-23A, and reactive oxygen species (ROS), followed by keratinocyte proliferation inhibition in the M5-stimulated cell line model of inflammation through inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinases/extracellular regulated protein kinases (MAPK/ERK) and nuclear factor kappaB (NF-κB) signaling pathways. Our results indicate that PU may serve as a promising nutritional intervention for psoriasis by ameliorating cellular oxidative stress and inflammation.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an autoimmune systemic chronic inflammatory disease that exhibits characteristic detrimental effects on the skin, often leading to infections or comorbid conditions. The multifaceted nature of psoriasis has made it very challenging to treat, especially with current chemotherapy options. Therefore, it is essential to consider phytoconstituents as novel alternatives. However, despite demonstrating higher anti-inflammatory, anti-psoriasis, and immunomodulatory potential, their clinical usage is hindered due to their poor physicochemical properties. To address these drawbacks, nanoparticulate drug delivery systems have been developed, helping to achieve better permeation of phytoconstituents through topical administration. This has breathed new life into traditional systems of medicine, particularly in the context of treating psoriasis. In this current review, we present a detailed, comprehensive, and up-to-date analysis of the literature, which will contribute to affirming the clinical role of phyto-nano interventions against psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects 1-3% of the population. The pathomechanism of psoriasis development is complex, but genetic (non-modifiable) factors play a key role. However, the importance of environmental factors and lifestyle choices, such as the diet, alcohol consumption, and smoking, is increasing. The objective of this review was to analyse the influence of dietary habits, alcohol consumption, and smoking on the clinical course of psoriasis. Stress, a poor diet, alcohol abuse, and smoking can trigger psoriasis or cause its exacerbation. Therefore, in addition to the correct selection of therapy, it is extremely important to educate patients about the impact of these factors on the onset and progression of psoriasis. This literature review confirms that a holistic and multidisciplinary approach is required for patients with psoriasis, further emphasizing Hippocrates' thesis, "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food".

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Minimal erythema dose (MED) remains a parameter of paramount importance to orient narrow-band (NB)-UVB phototherapy in psoriatic (PsO) patients. Recently, circadian rhythm and diet were recognized as potential MED modulators, but their mutual interaction remains understudied. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the potential diet modulation of MED circadian oscillations. METHODS In the first phase, a cohort study was performed comparing potential MED oscillations (morning, afternoon, and evening) among omnivorous psoriatic patients before and after a phototherapy cycle and omnivorous healthy controls. The two groups were age-, gender-, skin-type-, MED-, and diet-matched. Then, in the second phase, another cohort study was carried out comparing MED oscillations 24 h after the last phototherapeutic session only in psoriatic patients cleared with NB-UVB and undergoing different diets (vegan, vegetarian, paleo , ketogenic, intermittent circadian fasting, and omnivore). Patients with different diets were age-, gender-, and skin-type matched. RESULTS In the first phase, we enrolled only omnivores, specifically 54 PsO patients and 54 healthy individuals. Their MED before and after NB-UVB therapy changed significantly among the three different time-points (morning, afternoon, and evening) (p < 0.001). The time effect was statistically significant in both groups before and after phototherapy. In the second phase, we enrolled 144 PsO patients (vegan, vegetarian, paleo, ketogenic, intermittent circadian fasting, and omnivore). MED circadian oscillations preserved a significant difference also after clearance and were influenced by diet type and time of day (p < 0.001). In particular, vegans displayed the lowest MED values, whilst Ramadan fasting showed the highest values in morning, afternoon, and evening. CONCLUSIONS Diet, like other ongoing therapies, should be reported in the medical records of patients with psoriasis undergoing NB-UVB and patients with lower MEDs should be preferentially treated in the morning when the MED is higher.

Abstract
Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a complex, multiform and chronic inflammatory disease characterised by the association of arthritis and psoriasis combined with other related conditions and comorbidities. Treatment of PsA has rapidly evolved by the introduction of new biological drugs and small molecules which allow to achieve disease remission or low disease activity in most of the patients. However, unmet treatment needs still persist for those patients with persistent disease activity or symptoms, impaired function, reduced quality of life or comorbidities. In this context, non-pharmacological approaches, including diet modifications, an adequate sleep quality and physical activity could provide additional benefits. In recent years, diet modifications, improvement of sleep quality and physical activity became an area of interest for researchers and some studies showed how a holistic non-pharmacological approach may ameliorate the quality of life of patients with PsA.The aim of this manuscript was to review the current evidence on the intriguing link and potential effects of diet, sleep and exercise in PsA patients. In particular, we reviewed the literature focusing on the possible benefits of a holistic approach to PsA patients considering lifestyle modifications.

Abstract
Introduction The modulation of immunometabolic pathways is emerging as a promising therapeutic target for immune-mediated diseases. However, the immunometabolic features of psoriatic disease and the potential targets for immunometabolic intervention in the different T-cell subsets involved in its pathogenesis remain unclear. Methods In this study, we analyzed circulating blood single-cell data from healthy controls (HC), psoriasis (PSO), and psoriatic arthritis (PSA) patients, and revealed their metabolic features of T-cell subsets: CD4+ central memory T cells (TCMs), CD8+ effective memory T cells (TEMs), regulatory T cells (Tregs), mucosal-associated invariant T cells (MAITs ), and γδ T cells. Pearson test was performed to determine the linkages between differential metabolic and inflammatory pathways. Based on these results, we also analyzed the potential impacts of biological antibodies on differential metabolic pathways by comparing the immunometabolism differences between PSA patients without and with biological treatment. Results Our results suggest that upregulation of ascorbate and aldarate metabolism, as well as fatty acid degradation, may enhance the immune suppression of Tregs. Enhanced metabolism of alpha-linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and arachidonic acid may inhibit the pro-inflammatory functions of CD4+ TCMs and CD8+ TEMs in PSO and PSA, and protect the immune suppression of Tregs in PSA. We propose that supporting ascorbic acid and fatty acid metabolic pathways may be an adjunctive reprogramming strategy with adalimumab and etanercept therapy. Discussion These findings not only provide insights into immunometabolism characteristics of psoriatic disease, but also offer preliminary options for the auxiliary treatment of psoriasis.

Abstract
Background: Patients with plaque psoriasis have an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. However, no studies have assessed the nutritional status or screening methods of this population. Aims: This review aimed to identify and summarise metabolic syndrome screening criteria and the tools/methods used in nutrition assessment in patients with plaque psoriasis. Data synthesis: PubMed, Web of Science, Ovid and Scopus were searched from inception to March 2023, following the Arkensey and O'Malley framework, to identify articles that report nutritional assessment methods/tools and metabolic screening criteria. Twenty-one studies were identified. Overall, these studies used four different screening criteria to define metabolic syndrome. Patients with psoriasis had a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome and had a poor nutritional status compared to controls. However, only anthropometric measures such as weight, height and waist circumference were employed to determine the nutritional status. Only two studies assessed the vitamin D status. Conclusions: Patients with psoriasis have a poor nutritional status, and they are at risk of nutrient deficiencies. However, these health aspects are not routinely assessed and may increase the risk of malnutrition among these patients. Therefore, additional assessments, such as body composition and dietary assessment, are needed to determine the nutritional status to provide a suitable intervention.

Abstract
We hypothesized whether 10% praying-mantis-egg-cake (10% PMEC) can be applied against inflammatory-erectile-dysfunction and whether it could be linked to NO-cGMP-dependent PKG signaling cascade. Ninety male albino-rats were randomly distributed into nine (n = 10) groups. Group I was given distilled water. Group II and III were pre-treated with 80 mg/kg NaCl and 75 mg/kg MSG, respectively. Group IV was pre-treated with 80 mg/kg NaCl + 75 mg/kg MSG. Group V was administered with 80 mg/kg NaCl+ 3 mg/kg Amylopidin. Group VI was given 80 mg/kg NaCl + 10% PMEC. Group VII was treated with 75 mg/kg MSG + 10% PMEC. Group VIII was treated with 80 mg/kg NaCl+ 75 mg/kg MSG + 10% PMEC. Group IX was post-treated with 10% PMEC for 14 days. Penile PDE-51, arginase, ATP hydrolytic, cholinergic, dopaminergic (MAO-A) and adenosinergic (ADA) enzymes were hyperactive on intoxication with NaCl and MSG. The erectile dysfunction caused by inflammation was linked to alteration of NO-cGMP-dependent PKG signaling cascade via up-regulation of key cytokines and chemokine (MCP-1). These lesions were prohibited by protein-rich-cake (10% PMEC). Thus, protein-rich-cake (10% PMEC) by a factor of 4 (25%) inhibited penile cytokines/MCP-1 on exposure to mixture of salt-intake through NO-cGMP-PKG dependent-NF-KB signaling cascade in rats.

Abstract
Introduction Chronic-plaque psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory dermatological disease. Obesity comorbidities, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, are highly prevalent in patients with chronic-plaque psoriasis. Recently, weight loss has been a highly recommended intervention to improve the severity of psoriatic symptoms, psoriasis-induced chronic systemic inflammation, psoriasis-associated cardiovascular risk factors, quality of life, and the efficacy of anti-psoriatic drugs. This study was designed to assess the effect of a 12-week low-calorie-diet intervention on aspartate transaminase, psoriasis severity (assessed via Psoriasis Area and Severity Index - PASI), alanine transaminase, quality of life (assessed via Dermatology Life Quality Index - DLQI), triglycerides, waist circumference (WC), and body mass index (BMI) in class I obese men with chronic-plaque and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Material and methods Sixty men with age ≥ 18 years with class I obesity and with chronic plaque psoriasis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were included in the study. All participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: the first group as the low-calorie-diet group (30 men received immunosuppressive drugs, followed a low-calorie diet, and increased their energy expenditure through a daily 15,000-step outdoor walking program for 12 weeks) and the second as the control group (30 men received immunosuppressive drugs only). The primary outcome consisted of the results of the area and severity index. Weight, BMI, WC, laboratory results such as triglycerides, liver enzymes (alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase) as well as DLQI were considered as secondary outcomes. Results While no significant improvements were achieved in the measured variables of the control group, the low-calorie-diet group demonstrated significant improvement in all the measured variables. Conclusions The results of the present study confirmed that 12-week low-calorie-diet intervention controls BMI, increases the response of psoriasis to pharmacological agents and improves the quality of life. Diet interventions significantly control the elevated hepatic enzymes (aspartate and alanine transaminases) and triglycerides in male patients with chronic-plaque psoriasis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Abstract
Survivors of acute radiation exposures are likely to experience delayed effects that manifest as injury in late-responding organs such as the heart. Noninvasive indicators of radiation-induced cardiac dysfunction are important in the prediction and diagnosis of this disease. In this study, we aimed to identify urinary metabolites indicative of radiation-induced cardiac damage by analyzing previously collected urine samples from a published study. The samples were collected from male and female wild-type (C57BL/6N) and transgenic mice constitutively expressing Activated Protein C (APCHi), a circulating protein with potential cardiac protective properties, that were exposed to 9.5 Gy of γ-rays. We utilized LC-MS-based metabolomics and lipidomics for the analysis of urine samples collected at 24 h, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-irradiation. Radiation caused perturbations in the TCA cycle, glycosphingolipid metabolism, fatty acid oxidation, purine catabolism, and amino acid metabolites, which were more prominent in wild-type (WT) mice compared to APCHi mice, suggesting a differential response between the two genotypes. After combining genotypes and sexes, we identified a multi-analyte urinary panel at early post-irradiation time points that predicted heart dysfunction using a logistic regression model with a discovery validation study design. These studies demonstrate the utility of a molecular phenotyping approach to develop a urinary biomarker panel predictive of delayed effects of ionizing radiation. It is important to note that no live mice were used or assessed in this study; instead, we focused solely on analyzing previously collected urine samples.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory systemic disease with skin tropism and chronic relapsing course; it is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk and with many metabolic comorbidities, emerging during childhood in 22–33% of cases. Diet influences the presentation and the clinical course of inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis; in particular, it was shown that a Mediterranean, gluten-free, or low-calorie diet may positively affect disease control in adult patients with psoriasis and adequate pharmacological therapy. These three dietary regimens may play a role also in children with psoriasis. It has been demonstrated that pediatric psoriasis is associated with psychological stress, celiac disease, and obesity, which may be positively influenced by these dietary regimens, respectively. Therefore, the expertise of multiple health figures (gastroenterologists, nutritionists, pediatricians, dermatologists) is required to plan a tailor-made dietary strategy, ensuring good growth, through an adequate intake of essential micro- and macronutrients and, at the same time, impacting the pro-inflammatory biochemical profile and on the associated cardiovascular risk of psoriasis disease.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease with strong genetic links and numerous features of autoimmunity that are also influenced by environment and lifestyle, including nutritional factors and physical activity (PA), with regards to the condition of patients. Recent reports in the field of nutrigenomics indicate a significant impact of nutrients in modulating microRNAs. However, few studies have evaluated the effect of nutritional systems and PA on treating psoriasis. This narrative review updates information regarding the current dietary recommendations for individuals with psoriasis and discusses the role of diet and PA in psoriasis prevention and treatment. Application of nutrigenetics in psoriasis therapy is also discussed. The PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched using the MeSH terms for "nutrigenomics", "dietetics", "diet therapy", "diet", "physical activity", and "exercise" in conjunction with the MeSH terms for "psoriasis" and "dermatology". Evidence has shown that patients with psoriasis should have a personalized anti-inflammatory diet. Psoriasis patients are less physically active; most performed exercises of low-to-moderate intensity and were less likely to undertake regular exercise. Identifying nutrigenomic discoveries and the current lifestyle interventions associated with psoriasis can help physicians and physical therapists develop educational programs to manage and protect against the disease.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease affecting approximately 2% of the UK population. Its pathogenesis is suggested to be an outcome of genetic and environmental interplay. People with psoriasis have an increased likelihood of developing other conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Systemic inflammation is hypothesised to be the common link between psoriasis and cardio-metabolic diseases. Emerging evidence shows diet as a potential therapeutic adjunct in the management of psoriasis. The Diet and Psoriasis Project (DIEPP) aims to investigate whether dietary factors are related to psoriasis severity by conducting an observational study followed by a dietary intervention trial, to assess the effect of the Mediterranean diet (MedD) and time-restricted eating (TRE) on psoriasis. This review article will explore the potential mechanisms by which the MedD and TRE may exert protective effects on psoriasis, evaluate the current evidence, and outline the design of the DIEPP. Given the early-stage evidence, we hope to be able to build knowledge to derive medically approved dietary recommendations and contribute to the research gaps exploring the role of diet and psoriasis.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the most common form of diabetes, is a progressive chronic metabolic disease that has increasingly spread worldwide, enhancing the mortality rate, particularly from cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Lifestyle improvement through diet and physical activity is, together with drug treatment, the cornerstone of T2DM management. The Mediterranean diet (MD), which favors a prevalence of unprocessed vegetable foods and a reduction in red meats and industrial foods, without excluding any food category, is usually recommended. Recently, scientific societies have promoted a very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD), a multiphasic protocol that limits carbohydrates and then gradually re-introduces them, with a favorable outcome on body weight and metabolic parameters. Indeed, gut microbiota (GM) modifications have been linked to overweight/obesity and metabolic alterations typical of T2DM. Diet is known to affect GM largely, but only a few studies have investigated the effects of VLCKD on GM, especially in T2DM. In this study, we have compared anthropometric, biochemical, lifestyle parameters, the quality of life, and the GM of eleven patients with recently diagnosed T2DM and overweight or obesity, randomly assigned to two groups of six and five patients who followed the VLCKD (KETO) or hypocaloric MD (MEDI) respectively; parameters were recorded at baseline (T0) and after two (T2) and three months (T3). The results showed that VLCKD had more significant beneficial effects than MD on anthropometric parameters, while biochemical improvements did not statistically differ. As for the GM, despite the lack of significant results regarding the alpha and beta diversity, and the Firmicutes/Bacteroidota ratio between the two groups, in the KETO group, a significant increase in beneficial microbial taxa such as Verrucomicrobiota phylum with its members Verrucomicrobiae, Verrucomicrobiales, Akkermansiaceae, and Akkermansia, Christensenellaceae family, Eubacterium spp., and a reduction in microbial taxa previously associated with obesity (Firmicutes and Actinobacteriota) or other diseases (Alistipes) was observed both at T2 and T3. With regards to the MEDI group, variations were limited to a significant increase in Actinobacteroidota phylum at T2 and T3 and Firmicutes phylum at T3. Moreover, a metagenomic alteration linked to some metabolic pathways was found exclusively in the KETO group. In conclusion, both dietary approaches allowed patients to improve their state of health, but VLCKD has shown better results on body composition as well as on GM profile.

Abstract
Extrinsic environmental factors, including patient lifestyle (alcohol intake, smoking, stress, sleep disturbances, and sedentary habit), diet and single nutrients intake may affect psoriasis clinical presentation, severity, and course. All English language articles dealing with psoriasis and lifestyle factors or diet gathered by an extensive PubMed search were carefully examined in order to explore their impact on the disease. Current authoritative knowledge confirms that low‐calories, Mediterranean, and protein restricted/vegetarian diets may be beneficial. Psoriatic patients are also recommended to engage regular physical activity, to avoid alcohol intake and to consume fish rich in omega‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as fruit and vegetables. Prebiotics and probiotics may also provide potential benefit, whereas vitamin D supplementation and gluten‐free diet are useful in selected cases only. Changing of dietary and lifestyle habits alone does not replace conventional treatment, but must be considered as an adjuvant. Physicians may play a crucial role, by adequately acknowledging psoriatic patients on the advantages of proper lifestyle and diet habits as well as providing clues to reliable sources of dietary advice.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease associated with multiple comorbidities. Considered one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases among the general population, it not only affects the skin, but also negatively impacts other organs and joints. In addition, psoriasis has been associated with several chronic cardio-metabolic diseases such as obesity, which would seem to be (i) a risk factor for the onset of psoriasis and (ii) a worsening factor of the severity of the disease. Weight loss appears to improve severity in overweight patients. Recently proposed as an obesity management nutritional strategy, the very-low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD) has demonstrated significant effects in reducing inflammatory processes. In the current review, we describe the evidence available on psoriasis and VLCKD, and provide a practical guide to the prescription of VLCKD in the different phases, evaluation and management of possible adverse events, and the importance of physical activity as a lifestyle modification to reduce psoriasis and associated comorbidities. Randomized control trials are, however, necessary to determine the most effective VLCKD protocol for patients with obesity and psoriasis, optimal protocol duration, composition of micronutrients and macronutrients, choice of special supplements, and management of carbohydrate reintroduction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While a plethora of literature continues to be published on the role of nutritional agents both in lay press and indexed journals, the data is not on a firm footing and leaves the dermatologist in a quandry and the patient confused. The various agents include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, diets & gluten. A proper knowledge of the role of nutritional supplements in dermatological diseases can be a useful tool in advising the patients and in certain cases ameliorating the disorder. PATIENTS/METHODS Literature review of last 15 years was made using the terms "diet in dermatology," "nutrition and skin," "nutritional supplements in dermatology," "nutritional agents and acne," "nutritional agents and alopecia," and "nutritional agents and psoriasis." RESULTS While there are multiple publications on the use of nutritional supplements for amelioration of skin diseases, most of them are based on either associations or in vitro studies, but very few transcend the rigors of a clinical trial or the holey grail of a double-blinded randomized controlled trial. There seem to be some evidence in acne, psoriasis, telogen effluvium, urticaria & vitiligo. Coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis have a strong link with diet. Rosacea has a strong link with certain foods, but the other disorders like melasma, aphthous stomatitis do not have any scientifically validated association with diet. CONCLUSIONS Our updated review examines the role of nutritional supplements and antioxidants in various dermatological disorders. We have found that there are varying levels of evidence with notable associations of low glycemic diet & acne, fish oil & weight loss with psoriasis, fish oils & probiotics with atopic dermatitis & vitamins & botanical extracts with vitiligo. The evidence for diet and nutrition in bullous disorders and photoageing is scarce. The role of low histamine diet in urticaria is useful in select cases of episodic urticaria. Rosacea is triggered by hot and spicy food . Apart from gluten and Dermatitis Herpetiformis, no diet can be considered disease modifying in our reveiw. The lack of comparison of nutritional or dietary modiffication with conventional validated agents, makes the data difficult to translate in real world patient management.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease. Despite the understanding of the disease pathogenesis, the link between diet-induced inflammation and the risk of psoriasis remains underexplored. Therefore, we have examined the capability of literature-derived Energy-adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII) as a predictive tool for inflammation, incidence, and severity of psoriasis (as indexed by The Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI)). We have conducted a case-control study consisting of 149 adults (n = 75 cases and n = 74 controls). The E-DII score was calculated based on the dietary intake that was evaluated by a validated 168 item quantity food-frequency questionnaire. The E-DII tertile cut-offs were categorized based on the following cut points: tertiles 1 ≤ -1.99; tertiles 2 = -2.00 - 0.60; tertile 3 ≥ 0.61. Logistic regression models were applied to estimate the multivariable odds ratio (OR) that was adjusted for confounders. Patients with higher pro-inflammatory E-DII had a 3.60-times increased risk of psoriasis relative to patients in tertiles 1 (E-DIIT3 vs E-DIIT1: OR = 3.64; 95% CI 1.51, 8.79, P = 0.005). The severity of disease as indexed by PASI remained associated with E-DII (E-DIIT3 vs E-DIIT1: OR = 3.64; 95% CI 1.74, 7.57, P = 0.015). For each unit increase in E-DII, the odds of disease severity increased by 3-times. Patients consuming a more pro-inflammatory diet were at greater risk of psoriasis. These patients also demonstrate increased disease severity relative to individuals consuming a more anti-inflammatory diet. • A pro-inflammatory diet is associated with higher psoriasis incidence • Subjects with higher DII scores, had higher inflammatory markers levels.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) involves inflammation and bone and soft tissue turnover. Dietary fatty acids have previously been associated with pro-inflammatory effects induced by saturated fatty acids (SFA) and anti-inflammatory effects achieved by at least some polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The aim of the study was to investigate the correlations between the content of fatty acids in granulocytes and clinical and biochemical markers of PsA. A total of 140 patients with PsA were included. Skin and joint disease activity were assessed. Fatty acid composition in granulocytes was determined by gas chromatography. Competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were used to assess bone and soft tissue turnover. The content of SFA, n-6 PUFA or n-3 PUFA in granulocytes was not associated with disease activity. Marine n-3 PUFA was significantly positively correlated with collagen degradation. In contrast, n-6 PUFA was significantly positively correlated with collagen formation and negatively correlated with collagen degradation. However, the correlations were all weak. No association was found between the content of fatty acids in granulocytes and disease activity in this population of patients with PsA. The correlation between fatty acids and biomarkers of bone and soft tissue turnover needs further investigation.

Abstract
Açaí berry is a fruit from the tree commonly known as açaízeiro (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) originated from the Amazonian region and widely consumed in Brazil. There are several reports of the anti-inflammatory activity of its pulp and few data about the seed's potential in inflammation control. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of catechin-rich açaí extract on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and carrageenan-induced paw edema. The treatment with E. oleracea ethyl acetate extract (EO-ACET) was used in an in vitro model performed with macrophages stimulated by LPS, in which pro-inflammatory markers were evaluated, and in an in vivo model of acute inflammation, in which edema inhibition was evaluated. EO-ACET showed an absence of endotoxins, and did not display cytotoxic effects in RAW 264.7 cells. LPS-stimulated cells treated with EO-ACET displayed low levels of nitrite and interleukins (IL's), IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-12, when compared to untreated cells. EO-ACET treatment was able to inhibit carrageenan-induced paw edema at 500 and 1000 mg/kg, in which no acute inflammatory reaction or low mast cell counts were observed by histology at the site of inoculation of λ-carrageenan. These findings provide more evidence to support further studies with E. oleracea seeds for the treatment of inflammation.
