Abstract
Chytridiomycota is the most species-rich phylum of basal lineage fungi with a worldwide distribution. Its species constitute essential components of freshwater ecosystems. However, the diversity of this group in Korea remains understudied. A survey of Chytridiales and Rhizophydiales fungi was conducted in soil and freshwater environments in Korea, and seven strains were isolated. Based on morphological and molecular data, a previously unidentified, novel Rhizophydium species was discovered, designated Rhizophydium multiplex sp. nov. In addition, Chytriomyces hyalinus and Globomyces pollinis-pini were isolated for the first time in Korea. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the three species are provided. This study highlights the potential diversity of chytrid fungi in Korea.

Abstract
Chytrids, often overshadowed by their other fungal counterparts, take center stage as we unravel the mysteries surrounding new species within Rhizophydiales and explore their unique characteristics. In the broader spectrum of chytrids, their significance lies not only in their roles as decomposers but also as key players in nutrient cycling within aquatic ecosystems as parasites and saprobes. Baited soil and aquatic samples collected from various provinces of Thailand, yielded new species of the Rhizophydiales (Chytridiomycota), some of which expanded previously single species genera. Our investigation incorporated a combination of morphological and phylogenetic approaches, enabling us to identify these isolates as distinct taxa. The novel isolates possess distinguishing features, such as variations in size and shape of the sporangium and zoospores, that somewhat differentiate them from described taxa. To confirm the novelty of the species, we employed robust phylogenetic analyses using maximum likelihood and bayesian methods. The results provided strong support for the presence of eight distinct lineages within the Rhizophydiales, representing our newly discovered species. Furthermore, we employed Poisson Tree Processes to infer putative species boundaries and supplement evidence for the establishment of our new Rhizophydiales species. By meticulously exploring their morphological characteristics and genetic makeup, we expand the known catalogue of fungal diversity by describing Alphamyces thailandicus, Angulomyces ubonensis, Gorgonomyces aquaticus, G. chiangraiensis, G. limnicus, Pateramyces pingflumenensis, Terramyces aquatica, and T. flumenensis and also provide valuable insights into the intricacies of this order. This newfound knowledge not only enriches our understanding of Rhizophydiales but also contributes significantly to the broader field of mycology, addressing a critical gap in the documentation of fungal species. The identification and characterization of these eight novel species mark a noteworthy stride towards a more comprehensive comprehension of fungal ecosystems and their vital role.

The new chytridiomycete Paradinomyces triforaminorum gen. et sp. nov. co-occurs with other parasitoids during a Kryptoperidinium foliaceum (Dinophyceae) bloom in the Baltic Sea. Abstract
A new chytrid genus and species was isolated and cultured from samples obtained in the Baltic Sea during a dinoflagellate bloom event. This species is characterized by having a spherical sporangium without papillae and zoospores of 2-3 µm in diameter that are released through 3 discharge pores. Molecular phylogeny based on ribosomal operon showed its sister position to the Dinomyces cluster in Rhizophydiales. Zoospores lack fenestrated cisternae but contain a paracrystalline inclusion, found in a Rhizophydiales representative for the first time. Additionally, the kinetid features are uncommon for Rhizophydiales and only observed in Dinomyces representatives so far. These morphological features and its phylogenetic relationships justify the description of the new genus and speciesParadinomyces triforaminorum gen. nov. sp. nov. belonging to the family Dinomycetaceae. The chytrid was detected during a high-biomass bloom of the dinoflagellate Kryptoperidinium foliaceum. Laboratory experiments suggest this species is highly specific and demonstrate the impact it can have on HAB development. The chytrid co-occurred with three other parasites belonging to Chytridiomycota (Fungi) and Perkinsea (Alveolata), highlighting that parasitic interactions are common during HABs in brackish and marine systems, and these multiple parasites compete for similar hosts.

Abstract
Systematics of Chytridiales has been deeply influenced by analyses of molecular loci and zoospore ultrastructure. Even though the Chytridiales is the largest order within Chytridiomycota, Brazilian isolates of this clade have been poorly integrated. Here, we isolated seven species and documented their morphology, including zoospore ultrastructure for Siphonaria aurea, and phylogenetic positions for all based on analyses of nuc 18S and 28S rDNA. Phylogenetic results support the placement of these species in Chytriomycetaceae and Chytridiaceae, with two new species described, Rhizidium crepaturum and Siphonaria aurea, and Rodmanochytrium sphaericum recorded for the first time from Brazil.

Abstract
Zoospore ultrastructural characters combined with molecular phylogenetic hypotheses have been used to revise the taxonomy of zoosporic true fungi. An example is the reclassification of Rhizophlyctis rosea-like fungal strains into four new families and three new genera within the order Rhizophlyctidales. One genus was Borealophlyctis, which included a Canadian isolate, DAOMC 229843. A recent survey of chytrid diversity in Alabama (USA) yielded additional strains (WJD 170, WJD 171) in the Borealophlyctis lineage. With light and transmission-electron microscopy we examined strains DAOMC 229843, WJD 170 and WJD 171. We also analyzed partial nuc 28S rDNA D1-D3 domains (28S) and nuc rDNA region encompassing the internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2 and 5.8S (ITS) sequences to determine the phylogenetic placement of the strains within Rhizophlyctidales. Based on molecular divergence and morphological differences from the type Borealophlyctis paxensis, we recognize DAOMC 229843, WJD 170 and WJD 171 as representatives of the new species Borealophlyctis nickersoniae.
