Abstract
Background: The delta neutrophil index (DNI) represents the immature granulocyte fraction and is determined by subtracting the fraction of mature polymorphonuclear leucocytes from the sum of myeloperoxidase-reactive cells. The DNI has been proposed as a useful prognostic marker for sepsis. This study evaluated the clinical utility of DNI as a predictive marker in patients with pneumonia-induced sepsis in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of pneumonia-induced sepsis in patients who were admitted to the Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital's medical ICUs from July 2022 to March 2024. The DNI was measured on three consecutive days after ICU admission. The primary outcome of this study was a 28-day mortality. Results: A total of 227 patients with pneumonia-induced sepsis were included in this study. A 28-day mortality occurred 20.3% of the time in our study. In a univariate analysis, age (p = 0.05), lymphocyte (p = 0.02), DNI 1 (p = 0.01), DNI 2 (p = 0.00), DNI 3 (p = 0.00), and lactic acid (p = 0.00) were significantly associated with 28-day mortality. In a multivariable analysis, lactate (adj. OR: 0.86, 95% CI: 0.78-0.95, p = 0.002), and DNI 3 (adj. OR: 0.94, 95% CI: 0.89-0.99, p = 0.048) were significantly associated with 28-day mortality. In our study, the most appropriate cut-off values were DNI 1 (7.15), DNI 2 (8.9), and DNI 3 (2.6). Patients with higher DNI 3 (≥2.6) showed higher 28-day mortality than patients with lower DNI 3 values of <2.6 (67.4% vs. 32.6%; p < 0.001). However, those aged ≥70 did not show statistically significantly different DNI 1 values between the survivor and non- survivor groups. Conclusions: The DNI at 72 h after ICU admission is a promising predictive prognostic marker of 28-day mortality in patients with pneumonia-induced sepsis in the ICU. However, the interpretation of the DNI in sepsis patients aged 70 and older on the first day of hospitalization should be approached with caution.

Abstract
Introduction: We sought to determine whether the delta neutrophil index (DNI), a marker that is reported to be used to predict the diagnosis, prognosis, and disease severity of bacteremia and sepsis, is useful in differentiating bacterial infection without bacteremia (BIWB) from viral infections (VI) in pediatric febrile patients in the emergency department (ED). Method: We conducted a retrospective analysis of febrile patients’ medical records from the pediatric ED of the teaching hospital. The patients with BIWB and those with VI were identified with a review of medical records. The primary outcome was the diagnostic performance of DNI in differentiating BIWB from VI. The secondary outcome was a comparison of the diagnostic performances of DNI, CRP, WBC, and neutrophil count between the two groups. Results: A total of 151 (26.3%) patients were in the BIWB group, and 423 (73.7%) were in the VI group. There was no significant difference in DNI between the two groups (3.51 ± 6.90 vs. 3.07 ± 5.82, mean ± SD, BIWB vs. VI). However, CRP levels were significantly higher in the BIWB group than in the VI group (4.56 ± 5.45 vs. 1.39 ± 2.12, mean ± SD, BIWB vs. VI, p < 0.05). The AUROCs of DNI, WBC count, neutrophil levels, RDW, and CRP levels were 0.5016, 0.5531, 0.5631, 0.5131, and 0.7389, respectively, and only CRP levels were helpful in differentiating BIWB from VI. Conclusion: In the absence of bacteremia, DNI would not be helpful in differentiating BIWB from VI in pediatric febrile patients.

Abstract
Sepsis represents an important global health burden due to its high mortality and morbidity. The rapid detection of sepsis is crucial in order to prevent adverse outcomes and reduce mortality. However, the diagnosis of sepsis is still challenging and many efforts have been made to identify reliable biomarkers. Unfortunately, many investigated biomarkers have several limitations that do not support their introduction in clinical practice, such as moderate diagnostic and prognostic accuracy, long turn-around time, and high-costs. Complete blood count represents instead a precious test that provides a wealth of information on individual health status. It can guide clinicians to early-identify patients at high risk of developing sepsis and to predict adverse outcomes. It has several advantages, being cheap, easy-to-perform, and available in all wards, from the emergency department to the intensive care unit. Noteworthy, it represents a first-level test and an alteration of its parameters must always be considered within the clinical context, and the eventual suspect of sepsis must be confirmed by more specific investigations. In this review, we describe the usefulness of basic and new complete blood count parameters as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of sepsis.

Abstract
Abstract
Objective Sepsis diagnosis is challenging due to nonspecific symptomatology in newborns. Timely diagnosis is essential for reducing sepsis-related morbidity and mortality. This study was performed to determine the diagnostic value of the delta neutrophil index (DNI) for detection of neonatal sepsis and to compare its efficacy with other conventional markers.
Methods This study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in newborns with confirmed sepsis (n = 59), suspected sepsis (n = 46), and in age- and weight-matched controls (n = 49). DNI, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, and platelet measurements were determined, and blood cultures were performed at the onset of symptoms.
Results The mean DNI was significantly higher in confirmed and clinical sepsis groups compared with the control group. (6.9 ± 9.3, 1.9 ± 2.1, and 0.4 ± 0.5, respectively, p < 0.001). ROC curve analysis also showed that the combination of DNI and CRP had the highest sensitivity (86%), specificity (100%), and positive predictive value (100%) for predicting neonatal sepsis. DNI values were significantly higher in nonsurvivors (p < 0.05).
Conclusion DNI could be used as a reliable diagnostic marker for neonatal sepsis, and high DNI could predict sepsis development and unfavorable outcomes. The diagnostic capability of DNI may be increased by assessing CRP measurements simultaneously.

Abstract
Background Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) occurs frequently in critically ill patients, but the clinical features and prognostic impact of SIC on sepsis outcome remain controversial. Here, we investigated the predictors and outcomes of SIC. Methods Patients admitted to a single medical intensive care unit from June 2016 to September 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. SIC was diagnosed by ejection fraction (EF) <50% and ≥10% decrease in baseline EF that recovered within 2 weeks. Results In total, 342 patients with sepsis met the inclusion criteria, and 49 patients (14.3%) were diagnosed with SIC; the latter were compared with 259 patients whose EF was not deteriorated by sepsis (non-SIC). Low systolic blood pressure and increased left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) were identified as predictors of SIC. SIC and non-SIC patients did not differ significantly in terms of 28-day all-cause mortality (24.5% vs. 26.3%, P=0.936). Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II; hazard ratio [HR], 1.10; 95% confidential interval [CI], 1.02 to 1.18; P=0.009) and delta neutrophil index (DNI; HR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.00 to 1.08; P=0.026) were independent risk factors for 28-day mortality with SIC. DNI, APACHE II, and lactate were identified as risk factors for 28-day mortality in sepsis patients as a whole. Conclusions SIC was not associated with increased mortality compared to non-SIC. Low systolic blood pressure and increased LVEDD were predictors of SIC. High APACHE II score and elevated DNI, which reflect sepsis severity, predict 28-day all-cause mortality.

Abstract
Bloodstream infections remain a leading cause of death worldwide, despite advances in critical care and understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment strategies. No specific biomarkers or therapy are available for these conditions. Neutrophils play a critical role in controlling infection and it is suggested that their migration and antimicrobial activity are impaired during sepsis which contribute to the dysregulation of immune responses. Recent studies further demonstrated that interruption or reversal of the impaired migration and antimicrobial function of neutrophils improves the outcome of sepsis in animal models. In this review, we provide an overview of the associated diagnostic biomarkers involved neutrophils in sepsis, and discuss the potential of neutrophils as a target to specifically predict the outcome of sepsis.

Abstract
Background Delta neutrophil index (DNI) is the fraction of circulating immature granulocytes provided by a routine, complete blood cell analyzer. It is known to be a useful prognostic marker of sepsis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of DNI in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients who had undergone emergent surgery for an acute abdomen. Methods A total of 694 patients who had visited the emergency room for acute abdominal pain and undergone emergent abdominal surgery from May 2015 to September 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical characteristics, laboratory findings on the day of hospital visit, hospital stay, postoperative complications, and 30‐day mortality were investigated. Results In the analysis of patients who had undergone an operation for acute peritonitis, the DNI was a good predictor for predicting 30‐day mortality rate (area under the curve [AUC]: 0.826). It was not inferior to other laboratory values, including activated partial thromboplastin time (AUC: 0.729), C‐reactive protein (AUC: 0.727), albumin (AUC: 0.834), prothrombin time (AUC: 0.816), and creatinine (AUC: 0.837) known to be associated with sepsis. Patients with high DNI displayed higher incidence of bacteremia and sepsis, longer hospital stay, higher postoperative complication rate, and higher 30‐day mortality rate than patients with low DNI. Among patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis, the DNI was a useful marker for differentiating appendiceal perforation. Conclusion The DNI was a practical and useful marker for predicting the prognosis of patients who needed emergent abdominal surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was conducted to assess the prognostic value of a simplified mortality score (SMS) using the delta neutrophil index (DNI) and thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) score, both easily obtained from the complete blood count, to identify critically ill patients at high risk of death. METHODS This was a retrospective study performed in the medical ICU at Yonsei University College of Medicine from June 2015 to February 2016. The primary end point was 28-day all-cause mortality. Participants were divided into two groups: a training (n = 232) and a test (n = 57) set. We used Cox proportional-hazards analysis, Harrell's C index, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis to derive the SMS and test its internal validity. RESULTS We enrolled 289 patients. The 28-day mortality rate was 31.1% (n = 90). Nonsurvivors had higher APACHE II, SOFA, and TMA scores, and DNI. The SMS, derived by Cox proportional-hazards analysis, consisted of age, sex, DNI, and TMA score. We assigned a weighted point to each variable in the SMS, as follows: age + 11 if male + (2 × DNI) + (61 [TMA = 1], 76 [TMA = 2], 74 [TMA = 3], 26 [TMA = 4], 99 [TMA = 5]). Nonsurvivors had a higher median SMS than survivors, and the Harrell's C index was 0.660. Analysis of survival by risk group according to SMS (low, intermediate, high risk) showed a significant difference among these three groups (P < 0.001). We then investigated this SMS in the test set to determine internal validity; the results were similar to those of the training set. CONCLUSIONS The SMS is a more rapid, simple prognostic score for predicting 28-day mortality and stratifying risk than the APACHE II or SOFA scores. However, external validation using a larger sample is needed.

Abstract
Background We investigated the usefulness of inflammatory markers including the delta neutrophil index (DNI), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin as early predictors of sepsis in patients with acute prostatitis (AP). In addition, we evaluated the efficacy of intermittent catheterization for the initial management of acute urinary retention (AUR) in patients with AP. Materials and methods All patients who presented to the emergency department and were admitted to the urology department from January 2011 to December 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical features, prostate-specific antigen levels, inflammatory marker levels, and urine and blood culture results were obtained from medical records. Patients who underwent urethrocystoscopy or prostate biopsy within 7 days were excluded. Results Of 132 patients (mean age, 64.8 years) in this cohort, 17 (12.9%) had sepsis and 22 (16.7%) had positive blood cultures. Escherichia coli was the most common isolate in blood and urine cultures. In multivariate analysis, the DNI and prostate-specific antigen were identified as predictors of sepsis. The DNI was a significant prognostic factor for bacteremia. In patients with AP, procalcitonin was not a significant predictor of sepsis. Of 19 patients with AUR, 10 needed Foley catheterization because of refractory AUR. C-reactive protein was a significant predictor of failure of the initial management of AUR. Conclusions The DNI is useful as a predictive factor for sepsis and bacteremia in patients with AP. Without mandatory cystostomy, intermittent catheterization could be one of the useful management options of AUR in patients with AP.

Usefulness of the Delta Neutrophil Index to Predict 30-Day Mortality in Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding. Shock 2018; 48:427-435. Abstract
PURPOSE The delta neutrophil index (DNI), reflecting the fraction of circulating immature granulocytes, is associated with increased mortality in patients with systemic inflammation. It is rapidly and easily measured while performing a complete blood count. This study aimed to determine whether the DNI can predict short-term mortality in patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage (UGIH). METHODS We retrospectively identified consecutive patients (>18 years old) with UGIH admitted to the ED from January 1, 2015 to February 28, 2016. The diagnosis of UGIH was confirmed using clinical, laboratory, and endoscopic findings. The DNI was determined on each day of hospitalization. The outcome of interest was 30-day mortality. RESULTS Overall, 432 patients with UGIH met our inclusion criteria. The multivariate Cox regression model demonstrated that higher DNI values on days 0 (hazard ratio [HR], 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02-1.17; P = 0.012) and 1 (HR, 1.15; 95% CI, 1.06-1.24; P = 0.001) were strong independent predictors of short-term mortality. Further, a DNI >1% at ED admission was associated with an increased risk (HR, 40.9; 95% CI, 20.8-80.5; P < 0.001) of 30-day mortality. The optimal cut-off value for DNI on day 1 was 2.6%; this was associated with an increased hazard of 30-day mortality following UGIH (HR, 7.85; 95% CI, 3.59-17.15; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The DNI can be measured rapidly and simply at ED admission without additional cost or time burden. Increased DNI values independently predict 30-day mortality in patients with UGIH.

Abstract
We performed a meta-analysis to seek evidence for the usefulness of the delta neutrophil index (DNI) as a prognostic blood biomarker for mortality in the early stage of sepsis in adults. A literature search was performed using criteria set forth in a predefined protocol. Studies of adults with sepsis that provided a DNI measurement and that had mortality as the outcome, were included. Review articles, editorials, and non-human studies were excluded. The methodological quality of identified studies was assessed independently by two authors using the Quality in Prognosis Studies (QUIPS) tool. A total of 1,822 patients from eleven studies were ultimately included. Standardized mean differences between non-survivors and survivors were compared. An elevated DNI was associated with mortality in patients with sepsis (standardized mean difference [SMD] 1.22; 95% confidence interval 0.73–1.71; I2 = 91%). After excluding two studies—one that included paediatric patients and one with a disproportionately low mortality rate—heterogeneity was minimized (SMD 0.74, 95% confidence interval 0.53–0.94; I2 = 43%). Overall, the findings suggest that high DNI values are associated with mortality in septic patients.

Abstract
Immature granulocytes (IG) are a marker of severe inflammatory states in human beings and animals, and have been linked to a diagnosis of sepsis and poor prognosis. The delta neutrophil index (DNI), automatically calculated by a haematological analyser, provides an estimate of circulating IG. In particular, an increased DNI value has been associated with the severity of sepsis, and mortality, in critically ill human beings. The aims of this study were to determine the DNI reference interval (RI) in healthy dogs, and to evaluate its diagnostic and prognostic significance in dogs with sepsis. A total of 118 dogs with sepsis undergoing a complete blood cell count (CBC) at the time of hospital admission were included retrospectively. Dogs with sepsis were compared to 20 dogs with primary immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA) and 99 healthy controls. The DNI RI was set from 0 to 9.2%. The DNI was significantly higher in dogs with sepsis compared to dogs with IMHA and healthy dogs (P<0.001), and significantly higher in dogs with septic shock compared to septic dogs without circulatory failure (P<0.03). No differences were detected between survivors (78/118) and non-survivors (40/118). Septic dogs with a DNI above the RI had significantly higher frequencies of IG and toxic neutrophil changes on manual blood smear evaluation (P=0.03 and P<0.001, respectively). The DNI had a fair performance in identifying dogs with sepsis in this population and predicted septic shock. Larger prospective studies are needed to validate DNI measurement in dogs and to test its clinical utility.

Abstract
Purpose Predicting the need for surgical intervention among patients with intestinal obstruction is challenging. The delta neutrophil index (DNI) has been suggested as a useful marker of immature granulocytes, which indicate an infection or sepsis. In this study, we evaluated the impact of the DNI as an early predictor of operation among patients with intestinal obstruction. Methods A total of 171 patients who were diagnosed with postoperative intestinal obstruction were enrolled in this study. Medical records, including data for the initial CRP level, WBC count, and DNI were reviewed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated to clarify the optimal DNI cutoff values for predicting an operation. Results Among the 171 patients, 38 (22.2%) needed surgical intervention. The areas under the initial CRP, WBC, and DNI ROC curves were 0.460, 0.449, and 0.543, respectively. The optimal cutoff value for predicting further surgical intervention according to the initial DNI level was 4.3%. The accuracy of the cutoff value was 74.9%, the sensitivity was 23.7%, and the specificity was 89.5% (positive predictive value, 23.7%; negative predictive value, 89.5%). In the multivariate analysis, initial DNI levels ≥ 4.3% were significantly associated with surgical intervention (odd ratio, 3.092; 95% confidence interval, 1.072–8.918; P = 0.037). Conclusion The initial DNI level in patients with intestinal obstruction may be a useful predictor for determining the need for surgical intervention.

Abstract
Introduction The delta neutrophil index (DNI) represents the fraction of circulating immature granulocytes and is a marker of infection and sepsis. Our objective was to evaluate the usefulness of DNI for predicting in-hospital mortality within 30 days after surgery in patients with sepsis caused by peritonitis by means of comparing DNI, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil percentage, and C-reactive protein (CRP) before and after surgery. Materials and methods We performed a retrospective analysis of demographic, clinical, and laboratory data. DNI, WBC count, neutrophil percentage, and CRP were measured before surgery, and at 12–36 h (day 1) and 60–84 h (day 3) after surgery. Results There were 116 (73.7%) survivors and 44 (26.3%) non-survivors. The rates of septic shock, norepinephrine administration, renal replacement, mechanical ventilator therapy, and reoperation, the Simplified Acute Physiology Score-3 (SAPS3), and the Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score were greater in non-survivors. DNI on day 3 was better than the other laboratory variables for predicting mortality. DNI was correlated with the SAPS3 (r = .46, p = .00) and SOFA score (r = .45, p = .00). The optimal cut-off DNI for predicting mortality was 7.8% (sensitivity: 77.3%; specificity: 95.9%). In receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, DNI on day 3 was the best indicator of mortality (area under the curve: .880; 95% confidence interval: .80–.96). Conclusions Our results indicate that DNI is better than other laboratory variables for predicting postoperative mortality in patients with sepsis caused by peritonitis. DNI > 7.8% on day 3 was a reliable predictor of postoperative mortality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Delta neutrophil index (DNI) representing the number of immature granulocytes is an emerging marker used in diagnosis of infections and prediction of mortality in infected patients. The present study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of DNI as a predictive and prognostic factor in infected patients. METHODS We performed a PubMed search on January 1st, 2017 and identified studies that evaluated DNI as either a predictive or prognostic factor in infected patients. Studies with appropriate information to construct 2 × 2 contingency tables were extracted. We calculated pooled sensitivity and specificity. Meta-analysis of the multivariate logistic regression data set was performed to assess whether DNI functions as an independent factor. RESULTS Overall, 12 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria and a total of 499 cases and 9549 controls were examined. As a predictive factor of infection, DNI's pooled sensitivity was 0.67 (95% CI 0.62-0.71, I 2 = 86.0%) and pooled specificity was 0.94 (95% CI 0.94-0.95, I 2 = 92.8%). Area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve was 0.89. As a prognostic factor for death in infected patients, DNI's pooled sensitivity was 0.70 (95% CI 0.56-0.81, I 2 = 0.0%) and pooled specificity was 0.78 (95% CI 0.73-0.83, I 2 = 26.6%). Area under the ROC curve was 0.84. Meta-analysis of the multivariate logistic regression data set showed insignificant results. CONCLUSIONS DNI is a potentially useful diagnostic tool and predicts mortality among infected patients and should be more widely used in the clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to update the epidemiology of bacteremia and evaluate their management and short-term outcome. METHODS We conducted a prospective multicenter survey from October to November 2011. Consecutive patients with at least one positive blood culture (BC) were included in the study. We evaluated the type and adequacy of empirical and documented antibiotic therapy, time to active antibiotic therapy, compliance with guidelines, and 10-day outcome. RESULTS A total of 23 public and private hospitals and 633 patients (493 true pathogens and 140 contaminants) were included in the study. Patients' wards were medicine (57%), surgery (19%), intensive care (14%), onco/hematology (3.7%), pediatrics (3.4%), infectious diseases (1.8%), and obstetrics (1.2%). Main pathogens were Escherichia coli (36%), Staphylococcus aureus (16%), coagulase-negative staphylococci, and Klebsiella sp. (8% each). A total of 43 (8.7%) multidrug-resistant strains were observed, including 26 extended-spectrum beta-lactamase strains and 15 methicillin-resistant S. aureus strains. An antibiotic active against the isolated pathogen was used in 74% of empirical and 96% of documented therapies. Median time between BC and administration of an active drug was 0.61 day. Empirical antibiotic therapies were protocol-compliant in 77% of cases. Few (4%) patients with contaminated BC received an antibiotic therapy (all inappropriate). Day-10 mortality was 12.1%, higher in patients presenting with severe sepsis or septic shock (22.5%) than in patients presenting with non-severe bacteremia (7.1%; P<0.0001). CONCLUSION The management of bacteremia seems satisfactory in these volunteer hospitals but bacteremia remains a severe infection.

Abstract
The presence of anaerobes in the blood stream is known to be associated with a higher rate of mortality. However, few prognostic risk factor analyses examining whether a patient's background characteristics are associated with the prognosis have been reported. We performed a retrospective case-controlled study to assess the prognostic factors associated with death from anaerobic bacteremia. Seventy-four patients with anaerobic bacteremia were treated between January 2005 and December 2014 at Aichi Medical University Hospital. The clinical information included drug susceptibility was used for analysis of prognostic factors for 30-day mortality. Multivariate logistic analyses revealed an association between the 30-day mortality rate and malignancy (OR: 3.64, 95% CI: 1.08-12.31) and clindamycin resistance (OR: 7.93, 95% CI: 2.33-27.94). The result of Kaplan-Meier analysis of mortality showed that the 30-day survival rate was 83% in clindamycin susceptible and 38.1% in clindamycin resistant anaerobes causing bacteremia. The result of log-rank test also showed that susceptibility to clindamycin affected mortality (P < 0.001). Our results indicated that malignancy and clindamycin susceptibility could be used to identify subgroups of patients with anaerobic bacteremia with a higher risk of 30-day mortality. The results of this study are important for the early and appropriate management of patients with anaerobic bacteremia.

Abstract
PURPOSE We evaluated the ratio of delta neutrophil index (DNI) to albumin (A) in patients receiving early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) to determine the prognostic significance of the DNI/A ratio as a marker of early mortality in critically ill patients with suspected sepsis. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed records from a prospective EGDT registry in an emergency department (ED) and screened eligible adult patients who were admitted to the ED with severe sepsis and/or septic shock. The new DNI/A ratio was calculated as the DNI value on each hospital day divided by the initial albumin level on ED admission. The clinical outcome was mortality after 28 days. RESULTS A total of 120 patients receiving EGDT were included in this study. Multivariate Cox proportional-hazard models revealed that higher DNI/A ratios on day 1 (hazard ratio [HR], 1.068; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-1.13; P = .0209) and the peak day (HR, 1.057; 95% CI, 1.001-1.116; P = .0456) were independent risk factors for mortality at 28 days. Our study demonstrated that the increased trend toward 28-day mortality was associated with a DNI/A ratio greater than 8.4 on day 1 (HR, 2.513; 95% CI, 0.950-6.64; P = .0528) and a higher DNI/A ratio (>6.4) on the peak day (average, 4.2 days; HR, 2.953; 95% CI, 1.033-8.441; P < .001) in patients with severe sepsis receiving EGDT. CONCLUSION The ratio of DNI to serum albumin on ED admission is a promising prognostic marker of 28-day mortality in patients with severe sepsis receiving EGDT.
