Abstract
BACKGROUND Health impacts of pediatric fruit and vegetable prescription programs (FVPPs) are unclear. This study assessed whether exposure to an FVPP that provided $15 produce prescriptions during pediatric visits was associated with differences in child diet, food security, physical activity, weight status, and blood pressure. METHODS This cross-sectional analysis included data from caregiver-child dyads with varying levels of exposure to the FVPP. Dyads completed surveys at pediatric offices. Trained research assistants measured height and weight of children and recorded blood pressure through chart review. Causal inference analyses using propensity score adjustments compared outcomes of exposure groups. RESULTS 680 dyads enrolled. Youth who received ≥1 prescription (exposed) reported greater physical activity compared to youth who received no prescriptions (unexposed). Blood pressure percentiles were lower among exposed when compared to unexposed youth (63.273 versus 75.060 for SBP; 71.472 versus 77.548 for DBP); and fewer exposed children recorded elevated blood pressure when compared to unexposed (0.141 versus 0.343 for SBP; 0.199 versus 0.344 for DBP; and 0.286 versus 0.531 overall). Similar findings were obtained using duration as a measure of exposure. CONCLUSION Youth exposed to the FVPP experienced greater physical activity and healthier blood pressure. Findings may indicate novel health-promoting effects of pediatric FVPPs. IMPACT When compared to youth with no exposure, youth exposed to a pediatric fruit and vegetable prescription program recorded greater physical activity and healthier blood pressure. Youth with high exposure (≥24 months) to the fruit and vegetable prescription program experienced greater physical activity and healthier blood pressure when compared to youth with low exposure (<24 months). This extends evaluation of pediatric fruit and vegetable prescription programs beyond feasibility and preliminary effectiveness to indicate potential of such programs in positively influencing physical activity and blood pressure of participating youth. Findings indicate novel health-promoting effects of pediatric fruit and vegetable prescription programs.

Abstract
Background The 2019 Expanded National Nutrition Survey results showed that the contribution of fruits and vegetables (FV) in the one-day food intake of adolescents only accounted for 2.6% and 5.9%, respectively. Numerous literatures also stated that insufficient intake of FV is associated with the development of most non-communicable diseases. Objectives This study was undertaken to compare the knowledge and consumption of FV between selected respondents from public and private SHS in Imus City. Methods The study used a descriptive research design, and convenience sampling was done to gather respondents. A self-administered questionnaire was developed and the level of knowledge on FV was classified into low, fair, and good. In the evaluation of FV amount consumption, the Daily Nutrition Guide Pyramid for Teens was used. The data were reported in mean, mode, and percentages. Results More public SHS (49%) obtained a good level of knowledge on nutrient contents of FV, and consumed fruits (61%) more than the recommended daily serving. While more private SHS (96%) had a good level of knowledge of its health benefits but consumed vegetables (67%) less than the recommended daily serving. Their most consumed vegetables were dahon ng sili and garlic. The most consumed fruits were Indian mango and pear. Squash (47%) was the most liked vegetable by both groups. The majority of public SHS identified banana (37%) as their most liked fruit while it was mango (22%) for the majority of private SHS. Public SHS respondents were also recorded to have a lower average estimated family expenditure on FV. Conclusion The study concluded that both public and private SHS do not consume adequate amounts of FV despite their good level of knowledge of its nutrients and health benefits.

Abstract
Vegetarianism can meet healthy, ethical, or ecological values (such as equality and protection of animals or the environment). At the same time, it can represent a response to the need for self-determination in adolescence. Furthermore, some studies show vegetarians have greater depressive risk and a lower sense of body satisfaction. Considering the spread of non-meat diets in the Western world, researchers have investigated the benefits and risks to physical and psychological health. Despite this, few studies have been conducted on factors influencing adolescent's vegetarian diet-related attitudes. Through self-administered loosely structured interviews, this research investigated factors potentially associated with vegetarian choices in adolescence. It checked (a) gender differences in vegetarian choices; (b) religious, familial, ethical, or health factors implied in vegetarian choices; and (c) indicators of well-being among young vegetarians. The findings suggest that for our sample, non-vegetarians have lower scores on health-related questions than others, while for vegetarian adolescents, the benefits of vegetarianism mainly depend on their ethical stances, beliefs, and values. Conversely, it is unrelated to factors such as the desire to lose weight, dissatisfaction about one's body shape, or depressive feelings.

Abstract
Preference for vegetables is influenced by various factors, including demographic, psychological, socio-environmental, and genetic factors. This study confirmed that age, pickiness, and perceptual attributes were predictors of preference for vegetables and examined how preference for vegetables and their perceptual attributes varies with age and pickiness. Children (8-14 years, n = 420), youth (15-34 years, n = 569), middle-aged adults (35-64 years, n = 726), and older adults (65-85 years, n = 270) were asked which vegetables they liked (or disliked) and which perceptual attributes of each vegetable they liked (or disliked). On the basis of their responses, an overall preference score and a preference sub-score for each perceptual attribute were calculated. Participants in each age group were classified into four statuses (non-, mild, moderate, and severe) according to their pickiness scores. Multiple regression analysis revealed that age and preference sub-scores for eight perceptual attributes (sweetness, sourness, bitterness, umami, pungency, orthonasal aroma, texture, and appearance) were positive predictors of overall preference score and that pickiness score and four perceptual attributes (saltiness, astringency, retronasal aroma, and aftertaste) were negative predictors. In addition, overall preference score and preference sub-scores for perceptual attributes other than saltiness increased with increasing age group and decreasing picker status; however, preference sub-scores for at least one of the six perceptual attributes (bitterness, astringency, pungency, orthonasal aroma, retronasal aroma, and aftertaste) exhibited negative values in children, youth, and pickers (mild, moderate, and severe). The increase in preference for these perceptual attributes might be an indicator of the adultization of food perception and the expansion of food acceptance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fruits and vegetable (F.V) consumption is the most pivotal strategy of preventing cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, and cancers. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of educational intervention based on social cognitive theory (SCT) on consumption of F.Vs among female high schools' students in Rafsanjan (South of Iran). SUBJECTS AND METHODS This quasi-experimental study was carried out among 272 students (intervention = 134 and control group = 138) using a multistage sampling method. The instrument used in this study included demographic characteristics, the students' F.V consumption during the past 7 days and its determinants based on the theory. Educational interventions were made in three sessions for students and two sessions for parents, teachers, and school officials. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 18 using the statistical tests of Chi-square, independent samples t-test, paired-samples t-test, and univariate model at a significant level of 0.05. RESULTS Three months after the educational program, mean scores and standard deviation of F.V consumption and constructs in the intervention group increased significantly (P < 0.001). Respectively, 22.2% and 36.1% of the changes in the average unit of F.V consumption were the result of the present educational intervention. CONCLUSION The intervention based on SCT with an emphasis on the interaction between student, family, and school has had an effect on F.V consumption behavior. Therefore, in forming behavior, attention is paid to the interaction of individual and interpersonal factors.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Although nutrients in fruits and vegetables are necessary for proper development and disease prevention, most US children consume fewer servings than recommended. Prescriptions for fruits and vegetables, written by physicians to exchange for fresh produce, address access and affordability challenges while emphasizing the vital role of diet in health promotion and disease prevention. Michigan’s first fruit and vegetable prescription program (FVPP) exclusively for children was introduced in 2016 at one large pediatric clinic in Flint and expanded to a second clinic in 2018. The program provides one $15 prescription for fresh produce to all pediatric patients at every office visit. Prescriptions are redeemable at a year-round farmers’ market or a local mobile market. The current study will assess the impact of this FVPP on diet, food security, and weight status of youth.
Methods
Demographically similar pediatric patient groups with varying levels of exposure to the FVPP at baseline will be compared: high exposure (> 24 months), moderate exposure (12–24 months), and no previous exposure. Data collection will focus on youth ages 8–16 years. A total of 700 caregiver-child dyads (one caregiver and one child per household) will be enrolled in the study, with approximately 200 dyads at clinic 1 (high exposure); 200 dyads at clinic 2 (moderate exposure), and 300 dyads at clinic 3 (no previous exposure). Children with no previous exposure will be introduced to the FVPP, and changes in diet, food security, and weight status will be tracked over two years. Specific aims are to (1) compare baseline diet, food security, and weight status between pediatric patients with varying levels of exposure to the FVPP; (2) measure changes in diet, food security, and weight status before and after never-before-exposed children are introduced to the FVPP; and (3) compare mean 12- and 24-month follow-up measures of diet, food security, and weight status in the initial no exposure group to baseline measures in the high exposure group.
Discussion
Completion of study aims will provide evidence for the effectiveness of pediatric FVPPs and insights regarding the duration and intensity of exposure necessary to influence change.

Abstract
Background: The positive impact of post-needs assessment training on the correction of eating habits is remarkable. The aim of present study was to determine the relationship between cognitive-behavioral processes and stages of change in nutrient use in overweight women referring to health centers in Isfahan. Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study conducted in 2017 during a three-month period. Using systematic random sampling, 260 overweight women referring to Isfahan comprehensive health centers were chosen. Data collection was performed by a four-part researcher-made questionnaire including demographic information form, stages of change of behavior, cognitive and behavioral processes questionnaire, and standard 168-item Food Frequency Questionnaire. After confirming its validity and reliability, it was completed by the researcher. Data were then entered N4 software perfect and analyzed using descriptive and analytical tests (ANOVA and Bonferroni Post-Hoc). Results: 59.30% of the subjects were in an inactive and 40.70% in an active phase. There was a significant difference with respect to different stages of change and the use of all behavior change processes (F4= 11.42, p < 0.001). The rate of using cognitive and behavioral processes increased during the nutrient change behavior (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The results of the study showed that moving away from pre-contemplation stage to maintenance phase increases the rate of using these processes that is due to the stability and improvement of changed behavior. Therefore, health plans should be designed based on the stage of the target group.
